Soundman Stepper by jonbro 2011-01-03T14:14:00
Short and sweet. The screenshots don't do it justice, and with a bit of tuning and a lick of paint it could be a slick little game.

Short and sweet. The screenshots don't do it justice, and with a bit of tuning and a lick of paint it could be a slick little game.
Finally, someone has written "Sim Headlouse". At least I think the things sticking up were hairs.
Being serious, it would have been good if you'd had the time to develop your ideas further as it was intriguing.
It was a stroke of genius merging a rogue-like with minesweeper. Good fun.
Nice look, but I couldn't really figure out what to do.
Crashed upon startup (Windows 7 32 bit)
Loved the ASCII art.
Complained that my graphics card wasn't up to it. That'll teach me to use the laptop with GMA graphics.
Same problem as Jonathan Whiting: it sits there chewing up CPU and nothing appears to happen.
I think I can see where you are going with this and I hope you finish it. Nice.
Does exactly what it says on the tin.
Feels like part of a game, not a whole game. Needs a bit more to maintain interest.
My daughter does not want me to de-install this game.
Has the difficulty of an early ZX Spectrum / Commodore 64 game. Tough controls, but it feels good when you reach the next checkpoint.
Good idea but the controls are a hindrance.
The keyboard layout seems to be a bit US-centric. Took a while to figure out which key to use for top-right.
Very original. Liked the fact that you use a vacuum in space.
Missing DLL. Wouldn't run.
Eventually ran out of time, but nice idea, rewinding time to discover what to do next.
Amusing.
Probably not what you were going for, but I can't help thinking that it could be improved with a, "can you guess what it is yet?" option.
Norton took it off for behaving suspiciously. Sorry.
Nice idea.
It would have been nice to get more feedback when you actually find something as it's a lot of effort!
This will be fantastic once you develop it into more of a game.
This is definitely a good start for a first game. I liked the graphical style for the objects in the rooms.
Takes the essential elements of GalCiv 2 and distills them into a 10 minute game. But you can't just have _one_ game ... you have to keep playing.
I liked the idea but I found the diving to be very difficult to control.
Might be my advancing years, but the window seemed a little small. Nice graphics from what I could tell with my magnifying glass and box of Wether's originals.
Not supplying an email address, regardless of the arguments. Privacy is like plutonium. Once it is out there you can't get it back.
Simple but effective graphics.
Cute graphics, liked the fact that the clouds moved.
This would make a great children's game, at least if they were the bunny massacring types!
This is rather good - a tidily implemented, original game.
It could do with an ending, and the text is a little small on an 11.6" notebook, but other than that it's fantastic.
Biggest problem I encountered was the implementation of the dialog boxes, as they kept blocking the scene. Liked the idea - nice to see something a bit different.
Ouch. My aching back. It must have been good as I discovered the whole world, before eventually dying of scurvy due to a diet of nothing but herring.
Very original. Would have preferred if you'd developed the beginning section some more - reminded me of Amnesia or Penumbra.
Wasn't overly keen on the flashing as it seemed a bit gratuitous, although you did at least give a warning.
Is there a moral in there, as it never seems to end well for me. Either I die, or I'm persona non grata in the US.
Pity that you didn't get further.
Twitchy controls, but I like the dual-world thing very much.
Liked the sounds and the music.
Played it for a lot longer than some of the other games. Reminds me of DROD, but cuter.
I might have been playing it wrong, but after about 20 seconds I found myself outside of all rooms, standing on a desolate plane.
Unable to run ... blocked by (overzealous?) Norton.
After collecting all of the Quaker names, I'd hoped for angel wings at the end!
Controls could be better and the screen was way too small for my eyes, but it shows promise as it is a very strong idea and was fun to play.
It's a promising start. It would have been interesting to see what you could do given a few more days with Unity.
Very good - enjoyed it greatly.
Strangely compelling.
I think it missed the theme, but the sound effects were awesome! How did you know what I sound like in the morning on my daily run to Costa?
Why?!?!?! Why am I a bad-ass mother running around robbing people? What's my motivation, cos it ain't the paltry amount of money that I make doing so!
Unable to run. It looked like it was taking 100% CPU at which point Norton took it out as a security threat. Sorry!
Great music, but the game... well, I couldn't really control my ship and ended up being pounded by cannonballs.
Taken out by Norton as a security risk.
Loved it. Best game I've found so far. Fantastic retro look, and well put together. Whenever I died I always felt that it was my fault, not the game's, and played this for a lot longer than I had planned. Excellent puzzles too.
Thanks. The green mushrooms cause the centipedes to go down a row and change direction. The magenta mushrooms cause the centipedes to dive straight towards the bottom of the screen.
If a centipede reaches the bottom of the screen then it steals a point of research.
@stevejohnson I am sorry to hear that.
The game is written using Processing, which is really just a simple wrapper around Java. In theory, the game should work on anything with a reasonably up to date version of Java 1.6. Unfortunately I don't have a Mac (I took it on faith that Processing would generate a working OSX build) so I don't know for sure what is going, but my hunch is that there's a problem with the version of Java.
@ranklar the resemblance to Centipede is not a coincidence. I was thinking about old games and ended up with an unholy mashup between Centipede and Typing of the Dead.
A complete, well thought out, on target game. You nailed the theme.
Liked it.
I've never seen an arena shooter in a bathtub before.
I know the theme is Tiny World, but when you chose such a small screen size you took away from the game itself.
Wouldn't run as it was looking for lwjgl in java.library.path.
It's fun because you have to think to play it.
I liked the mood, but I would have liked you to develop the plot more.
You should make this into a phone game. It's simple, well executed and I played it several times trying to do better. Love the day/night cycle, and would like to see this developed a bit further with more variety, eg, different worlds, adversaries, etc. Nice one.
Not much of a game there, and I think it would have been nicer if it could have been scaled up (if it could, then I missed it). Fantastic, retro graphics with nice touches, eg, the puff of dust as you hit the ground. Couldn't really interact with people other than making them unhappy (story of my life).
This is certainly one of the more original games I have played in this competition.
The sound effects and music are great. I like the whole game mechanic, although it does seem to have a tipping point when you know you're going to win or lose.
Nice one.
Loved the way that the spider moved. Might want to tone down the difficulty a bit, but very nicely done nonetheless.
This looks like it could be fun if you finished it. Love the whacky graphics.
You have the beginnings of something good here.
Glad I'm not colour blind. Had a nice look to it, but quite linear.
Although I could run it, I couldn't really figure out what to do.
Enjoyable but tough as nails. Like the pixel animation.
Very funny.
You, sir or madam, are completely bonkers, but it works for you! I never thought I would want more brisket in my entire life, but somehow you instilled that feeling in me.
Those grid-like levels completely messed with my eyes. That being said, this is a very original idea.
Need to clean up the old shots though.
Great mood. The enemies are suitably menacing. I particularly like the lighting.
It gets harder and harder and then you die. But very innovative!
There are two main problems:
1) Sometimes a bullet will bounce rather than destroying the enemy. This happens if a contact is made then released in the same tick. I've corrected it, but obviously too late for the competition.
2) It really does need a score, and the ability to play again after death.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to rate this game and comment on it. I appreciated your feedback.
The only problem is that you seem to pick the right choice by luck rather than deduction.
Would have been nice to see a damage indicator.
Had a spot of bother with the controls.
The sound was a little on the repetitive side and some of the bad guys seemed to disappear randomly. However, you did seem to get the theme and I liked the progression.
This is the first game that I've rated in this LD that my daughter wanted to keep playing. Everything else I play will now be judged against this. Hilarious, and on theme too!
Superb. Rather enjoyed that. Nicely done.
Thanks for playing my game. To address the comments so far, yes, it is possible to camp and shoot the enemies as they emerge. The idea was that they would shoot back, and would take more than one hit to kill according to their armour. This obviously would have made it more of a challenge, but I didn't get that done in time.
@blundis the enemies evolve by changing colour, speed, size and a few other characteristics that would have been used to determine weapons and armour. Basically there are always 3 enemy types per round, with the ones that escape coming back in larger numbers. All enemies are mutated slightly between rounds with a "fuzzer", with those that are least successful receiving more mutations, and those that are most successful receiving just one.
@Khayet what can I say? It's not finished. Sorry.
Short but sweet. Effective graphics.
You evil person (and I mean that in a good way). That's very clever. I like it.
Where's the dog? And where's the toilet because I feel sick. Seriously though, the control of the minibot is well implemented and I like the moving from camera to camera.
I can see where you were going with this. Those minotaurs are vicious.
Crikey! Nice touch that you provided a manual.
Shame about the split screen bug as that hampers replayability and marital harmony. I now need to give my wife chocolates to apologise for "you were nowhere near me!" But keep developing this - it's a fun concept.
Rather hard, but I like the retro graphics and music.
There was a potato named Jacob
Who couldn't find anything to make up
So he wrote a neat game
And thus he gained fame
And waited for players to wake up.
Intriguing.
You have the beginning of something really, really good. This would be a great game to play on a phone, in the dark, with headphones on, but rather than pressing keys, you take steps to control your character.
I'm number one!
Love the art style.
It all works well enough and is on theme, but some 8 bit music would have helped your cause greatly.
Nice style. Very minimal.
Innovative, but the small window made it very difficult to see what was going on.
Nicely presented.
The graphics are unmistakably yours. It took a while for me to figure out how to get the phone, but everything fell into place after that. A nice little puzzler, and clearly it's not just my cat that goes crazy for fish.
Ambitious.
I like how the eyes move.
Reminds me of a summer job I had about 30 years ago as a VDU operator, except I was clearly better at it then than I am now. Some sound would have been nice.
Congratulations on your first Ludum Dare. Good effort.
Stylish, fiendish and minimal. What more could anyone wish for, other than some sound.
The waiting with blank screens is frustrating. At first I thought the game was broken.
Could have done with a background to make it easier to judge movement. But very different.
Nails the theme. I like the way your ship turns, and the colour scheme is excellent.
Amusing. However, as a Mexican Viking I can't help but to feel a little uncomfortable at your characterization :)
Curious. I found a bug and ended up leaving the level.
I like the background and the clouds, but the main character could look a bit more cloud-like. Nice sounds too.
Wah, wah. Bring back the idiots in the funny suits!
I couldn't really figure out what was going on. But please keep trying. I'd like to see what you do in the next Ludum Dare.
The character looks great. I think you should have made more of that.
Very distopian indeed. Good story.
Well, that was a very literal interpretation of minimalism.
Very minimal, including the size of the window. Like the pixellated look.
That has to be one of the more engaging games I've played in this Ludum Dare. Lots of fun too.
I liked the evil Mr potato head.
The controls / balance needs tweaking, but you may be onto something here.
Jumping is a bit floaty, but ... well, it does what it says on the tin.
The audio and humour are fantastic. "Get the potato" is going to be in my head all day tomorrow.
I think I mostly misunderstood what was going on and somehow ended up being 0% kind and rather greedy on one playthrough. Hmmm. Food for thought. Liked the presentation though.
Clever. Mind bending. With a bit of tweaking this could be an excellent physics puzzler.
Worked well enough, but I got to a point where I couldn't jump to reach the uranium.
Would have been nice if the enemies reset when you die, but otherwise quite playable. Amusing animations too.
Smoothly implemented and strangely replayable. The ground pound is a nice touch.
Very good and very different. Who do you know who lives like that?
Quite fun, but difficult to control.
It's almost like a "stop the boss from gurning" competition. Love the way the boss's face comes to life.
I enjoyed this. The idea behind it reminds me of one of those old Chris Crawford games.
Sometimes it was a bit too fiddly in that it would not let you use B with A, but would let you use A with B.
Very, very funny. I kept playing to see what would happen next and eventually achieved enlightenment. Love the art style.
I would have been proud if I had made this. I love the whole "paper" styling of it. Very nice.
The particle trail effect is rather nice too. Very playable, could do with being more challenging, but ultimately rather enjoyable.
Could be great for teaching kids about Cartesian coordinates.
Very clever. Gets quite frantic.
Gets a bit frantic as it progress. I like the lighting on the coloured blocks.
Most intriguing.
Minimal, yet somehow conveys a mood. Excellent.
The tutorial makes the game.
I liked the ending. The guy got what he deserved, particularly after he almost trapped me by a tree.
I liked the references to Haskell and gdb.
It is a nice concept and nails the minimalism theme. It has good potential, but it is too hard.
The music is very catchy, and you nailed the theme.
Ha ha - loved the endings.
Loved the visuals and sounds - particularly the sounds - but could have done with some hint of depth.
Hysterically funny. Excellent!
Very nice. A little slow, but very enjoyable. Excellent interpretation of the theme.
A little on the easy side, but a nice job nonetheless. The game has personality.
Beautiful presentation.
I have a CP/M port in the works but I'd have to send it to you on 8" floppy :)
@Cybearg Thanks! I think I need to try 10,000,000 - sounds like my sort of game.
The levels are just a bit faster. Ideally there would be more variety in monsters, and more progression in terms of difficulty. Somewhere in the code there's a "dwarf lord" whose services were never called upon.
Also, I agree about the control over the ball. I've fixed it in a post-compo version which I'll post once judging is over.
Very clever. Innovative game mechanic, although it did take me a minute or two to figure out what was going on. Nice.
I am surprised no one did this before. A rather neat twist on pong and surprisingly difficult.
Nicely presented, but I would have liked the main character to be a tad more visible.
A little odd, but definitely on theme.
Controls are a bit fiddly - at least on the WebGL version. I'd be surprised if a younger player would be able to master it, at least in that format.
Fast and fun. Enjoyed that, even if the necromancer cheats!
That's quite difficult, but also quite original. Good game.
Clever. Creepy horror sounds would have made it much better, but I hope you continue to develop it. Love the lighting.
This is crazy and yet genius! Are you channelling early Jeff Minter?
Great music too.
What an excellent idea! Love the 8-bit graphics.
I believe you might have taken the theme rather literally. I hope you don't read the Bible (my wife tells me that's offensive, but if you have the cajones to submit a game like this then I'm sure you'll find it funny)
Great look and interesting sound effects, but ultimately I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to be doing.
Short and sweet. The main sprite's animation was delightful.
Very slick. The sound is very well done and the physics are challenging without being annoying. One of my favourite games so far.
But what sort of game allows you to sacrifice your only friend? I guess you only get one...
That was fun. It would be good if you added a single player mode too, but playing against someone else at the same keyboard is always a lot of fun.
Not entirely convinced by the music.
That's just so freaking awesome. I love it.
Couldn't find the garage, and the police and other cars killed more pedestrians than I did... either that or the town had been visited by a ravenous horde of zombies minutes earlier.
This game establishes a great atmosphere and reminds me somewhat of Amnesia.
Inventive twist on the format.
Superb. My daughter, of course, completely thrashed me at it. Very trance-like. The music totally matches the game.
The controls are a little fiddly, but otherwise the execution is good. Needs sound though.
What makes this stand out from the other "one bullet" games is the choice of choice of characters. I also really liked the little graphical touches such as the particle effects.
Very clever, making it "you only get one move". Surprisingly fun despite the fact that you can't do much after you've clicked, but I think there's scope for expansion.
Very strange. And yet I think we've all been there.
The pictures are cute as hell.
Nicely themed.
I can confirm that it works on Windows too. Nice concept, and surprisingly tricky to play once you get going. Would have liked some sound.
Great art style and a nice little game.
Could do some hints about what to click on to control where you drop the ball but the basic mechanism is sound. With a bit of polish this could be very good indeed.
Most amusing and well balanced.
Ha ha, I really liked what you did there, taking a platform and inverting the rules. Great little game.
Harsh difficulty, but nicely implemented.
I won in about 15 seconds. Needs more of a challenge.
Cool art style, great tune and some original monsters. Nice to be fighting "disabled angels" and "rats with attitude" rather than the usual orcs and goblins.
Argh, my carpal tunnel is playing up. Some of us are out of warranty you know.
Kind of like an inverse Defender, in that you get to play the alien. I like the concept.
That's quite a large world. I was amused by the sound effects, although the voice sounds uncannily like one of my colleagues. Good to see that you used libGDX too.
My first thought was, "only one bullet? Isn't that the same as Space Invaders", and then the penny dropped. That's an innovative twist. Very enjoyable.
A nice take on the genre. A minute seems like a very short time.
Not entirely on theme, but very funny and a good little game.
Nice music.
Excellent music and wonderful retro styling.
A little short, but fun nonetheless.
Induced a state of mild panic at first, but I managed to escape without meeting any zombies.
Simple but effective and well executed.
Very relaxing. More of an artistic statement than a game, but still very enjoyable.
Apparently my moral choices were bad, for I have been executed for them. Ouch.
Pretty good actually. I played it a few times.
Different. Very different. Most humorous take on the theme that I've seen so far.
404 on the link.
Woah, that was fun! I liked the core mechanic of having to protect the mana ball, and the music and graphics were bang on. The power-ups were pretty cool too.
It all started fine, but it froze soon after I figured out what to do.
Much harder than it looks, but it's a solid little game.
Crashed with a stack trace complaining about being out of memory. Gave it more heap, then got a different stack trace similar to what Cake&Code already reported.
Original and very playable with crisp, clean graphics. This would make an excellent phone / tablet game.
This is a very late entry to Ludum Dare 14 - Advancing Wall of Doom. Fun though.
Not bad at all. I enjoyed that once I figured out how to move the cannon. Quite a bit of variety in the enemies.
I understand where you're coming from, but next time imagine that the LD participants are your bill-paying clients (who pay in ratings).
Not entirely on theme, but I really liked the pixel effects and was amused by the sounds. Polished.
Nice first attempt and quite original. Sometimes being stumped for an idea can lead to crazy and interesting games like this one. I'm definitely not going to open the fridge in the dark because now I'm scared of bacon!
Very, very difficult but an inspired interpretation of the theme. I liked it very much. Some nice touches in the graphics too, eg, the expression your ship makes when it bumps into something.
Got to love typing games... and very funny too.
Cute, but the collision detection with the ground seems a little dodgy as I kept falling out the bottom of the level.
A little frustrating having to start from the beginning again whenever you lose, and I can't think how many times I "hit the hard rock", but this is a good concept that is right on theme.
I am so proud (Dad). Now, there's a bunch of washing up waiting for you in the kitchen :P
A good interpretation of the theme.
Interesting choices. Making it look like a drawing was a nice touch.
Too close to reality. The truth hurts!
An innovative way of debating, but a lot of fun.
Harsh! I guess I'd better try my chances in the job market because I totally failed my exams.
I particularly enjoyed the sound effects. The gun and the zombie groans were excellent. The dark setting worked quite well. You put a lot of thought into this and it shines through in the game.
Enjoyed that. Nice game mechanic.
Great setting. Perfect for the time of year.
Clever idea. I was disappointed when I reached the end as I was enjoying it.
Very atmospheric indeed.
Visually very good.
Philosophical.
It's tough. I like how the enemies get agitated when they see their fallen comrades.
It might be deconstructed and minimalist, but this is a nice take on bullet hell. A pity you didn't get any sound in there.
The theme? Only one hit point? Just like it should be!
And now I'm going back for another go.
Woah, crazy. Found myself dying quite a lot, but it's a great idea well implemented.
Agree with the previous comments that this would make a good mobile game. I liked the phrases that the man said about missing his family, is that a fin, etc.
I particularly liked the ending when the world exploded. With a few tweaks you might be onto something here - I just felt it was a little unfair in the placement of obstacles.
Excellent concept. I liked the sound effects when you poke the people. The android is quite hard to catch though.
This has a great look to it, with some cute touches such as the fish and the bubbles that rise from the submarines. Nicely done.
The spiders were great, but it's a shame that some of the other graphics, such as the player, weren't so interesting.
Kafka would be proud!
As ever, orangepascal shows us how it should be done. You are truly the master of lo-fi pixel art.
Clever idea. I liked the fact that the player could roll, and the sand storms were good too.
I am not sure what I was doing wrong, but I found that I couldn't control the diver. The wave effects and the sounds were great though.
I like the art style quite a lot, but it became a little frustrating when my character would stick to a wall.
A good, single player interpretation of Ingenious. I liked that a lot. A little off theme, but that doesn't matter. Nicely done.
That is very clever. I was surprised by the spiders.
Quite nimble for a grandpa.
Five endings? I kind of like the one that I reached.
Simple but effective. Starts easy but ramps up the difficulty nicely after a few minutes. Good game.
Interesting mechanic. It took me a while to figure out what I was supposed to be doing, but once I got there I quite enjoyed the concept. It would be interesting to see what you do with this post-compo.
Some nice touches in there, eg, the swimming and the breathing when he starts running out of air.
Rather disturbing, but very good.
The presentation of this was spot on. The black background with white text reminded me of silent movies.
It was a little easy though as I won on my first play.
I agree with @HybridMind about having more things to do, but on the whole this is an excellent entry. Give it more of an objective, port it to mobile (should be straightforward given that you're using the most excellent libgdx) and you could have a hit on your hands. Very nice job.
Has a simple look to it, but is very well realised.
It holds together quite nicely - very consistently themed throughout.
I enjoyed that and made it all the way through.
I love the pixel art and characters as they really set a mood. Any time I made money the Impresario would spend it on a fantastic advertising campaign at which point I just wanted to smack him, but I was too busy resting or not sneaking food.
I love how everything falls down when you die, and I think at one point I fell through a platform, but it's pretty good on the whole.
Very well put together and an excellent ending!
Very strange, but it definitely interpreted the theme in a novel and innovative way.
Excellent presentation, and I really love that you made put a working shop in there. Your games get better with each Ludum Dare and it is very rewarding to see you grow as a programmer and game designer. One day your games will inspire people, much as Notch inspires you.
I'm showing my age, but it rather reminds me of 3D Monster Maze on the ZX81. Good atmosphere, and the basilisk is rather creepy.
On the plus side, the climbing up the walls thing was innovative, but on the minus side that made it a little tricky to play. It's a shame you didn't manage to get any sound in there.
I found the wall jumping to be a little frustrating, but that's probably a lack of dexterity on my part.
Odd vertical green lines when scrolling. I played the game with headphones and the sound effect of the bees was very disconcerting and added to the mood considerably.
My jaw dropped. I don't think I've stared open mouthed at the screen like that. Those choices. This was not a game to play before going to bed. I don't think I'll sleep well tonight knowing what I've done.
Slick and juicy. Nicely implemented.
Clever - and lovely, original art.
Stylish and fun. Needs a little tuning here and there, but overall a great little game.
Nice. The shower of blood when Will is impaled on spikes is impressive, and it's refreshing to see a different art style.
That is good fun. Would be great if you could get score combos for smashing cars into each other, etc.
Nicely implemented scrolling too.
If you're 11 and you are writing games then you are already awesome. But take some advice from an old man: get practice by making simple, focused, polished games. Look at some of the arcade games from the early 80s. Many of them were simple and tight - learn your craft by remaking some of them with something like Unity, Game Maker or libgdx and putting your own spin on it.
Good use of theme and a good underwater look. Seemed to be a little stuttery which made it difficult to control.
Very nice indeed. I liked the way it transitioned between levels, and it was certainly a complete experience. Great job.
Excellent use of sound, and I like the art style.
Dark, yet funny.
I liked the dual mechanic of mining and eating.
Some aspects of it were really nicely done, eg, sun beams, trail behind the tank. However, the game itself was a little slow paced.
Some excellent touches in there - the lighting, the underwater effect, the bubbles and the rain. Everything comes together to make a satisfying game.
Short. Regarding advice, take something old and make it your own to learn your craft. And, since you know Java, give libgdx a try. You won't regret it.
Anything with coffee in it is fine with me! It became quite easy once I got the hang of it, but I like the style and the swirly coffee effect.
I played that for a long time. Excellent. Could have done with a score, or an objective, but it was very enjoyable to play.
Simple but cute.
Strangely it reminded me of FTL, which is no bad thing.
@ALobker, yes it is possible to jump over enemies. You have to be close to them and they have to be moving towards you. It takes timing, but can be done.
@pinion Oh, no!
@Gazok I can only dream of the day that my game is as good as that one!
@mark.goetz Thanks, I rather enjoyed your game. Wonderful art style and an innovative mechanic.
@ThingoStudios - that review really made my day!
Mmmm, cookies. Has a nice feel to it.
It is a little on the easy side, but not bad at all.
Clever, clever, clever.
Won in 6:20, however, it took me a while to realize what I had to do to win. Meanwhile, I was raking it in by selling vacuum cleaners at huge markup. I still have a few if anyone wants some.
That's a clever concept. With a bit of time and polish you could be onto something. Nicely done.
I have seen a few variations of this idea, but this is the most cohesive that I've seen so far. Nice.
Very nice puzzles, cute graphics and good music. I like this game a lot. My wife, whose initial reaction was, "oh, not another of these..." grabbed the keyboard from me and played through several levels.
The sounds are good too - I particularly like the way that the mammoth stomps around.
Excellent job.
The cutting edge backing track really makes this game. Ok, so it's really rock, paper, scissors with Will Smith, but it is really funny and my wife always liked him better as the Fresh Prince anyway.
This was a near perfect game. My only criticism is that you could fall off the levels to the left and right, which I only found by ...
There have been other games with a similar theme, but this ticked all of the boxes in all of the ways. It has great looks, fantastic chip tunes, and plays really, really well.
This belongs on the Wii-U store, or similar. It really is that good.
Works well, looks beautiful and has a great minimalist look to it, but some of those puzzles are tough.
The game seems a little easy, but it is nice to see an original puzzle.
Now that's how to do a helicopter game! This plays very well indeed. The copter is very responsive and flies just about right. The game had a feel similar to the flying game in Wii Sports Resort, which is no bad thing. I hope that you do more with this as it has the making of a very good game.
It was a little tricky getting the janitor to use things sometimes, but the idea is good and has amusing graphics.
That's quite challenging.
I like how the premise of this game is a play on worl?ds. I thought this game w.s \w+ \w+ and rather \w+ed it. \w+ job!
That's an inspired choice of music, and I rather like the particle effect trails that the ships leave. Good job - ver enjoyable.
Totally bizarre and original, if perhaps a little underdeveloped. It's a shame that you ran out of time. The water was very well done.
This has a great look and I like the core mechanic very much.
I liked how you could play two characters, but I didn't always feel that I was in control of my destiny.
Sad that your team mates skipped out, but good that you didn't give up.
It was an excellent idea to use the sliding-block mechanic and I like the game - it's good. However, the controls were a bit trigger happy. Fix the controls and you'll have a *great* game on your hands.
Good, if somewhat literal, interpretation of the theme. Nice level progression.
"The Fall" don't make video games, but if they did then this would be the result. Were you channeling Mark E Smith? It would certainly explain why I liked the music a lot yet my wife found it creepy!
Enjoyed the game, and the backgrounds were vibrant.
Simple idea, good implementation.
Cute, but it froze on me when I calmed the final Grompie. Refreshingly different.
Some of those planets are difficult to land on, but I kept going back for more. Great humour too.
The sound effects are funny. Are you sure that we're not supposed to kill gnomes - they look like they enjoy it when they're shot. Nice pixel art, and definitely one of the funnier games.
The graphics are really lifelike! Actually, I really enjoyed watching that. It was playing Galaxian (as opposed to Galaga) that got me into programming, so your 41 year old self just connected to a slightly older and greyer person.
Ah, the type of game that I love to play and wish I could write. Bookmarking this to come back to after LD judging.
It most definitely has a "one more go factor". I died lots, but kept coming back. It's reminiscent of Super Crate Box whilst being very different. I love the powerups, and it's incredibly polished.
Cracking good game!
Nails the theme and a fun little game to boot. Nice job. Others have said this would make a good mobile game - I agree.
Good graphics.
It was nice that the ladies room had shower facilities after all of the rummaging in the bins.
It kept losing focus as I jumped, making it very tricky to play. Unless you are intending both the keyboard and mouse to be used at once.
My wife tells me that I look like the main character - perhaps it's the grey/blue hair.
I liked how the number of worlds increased, and the music was very jolly. The different colour schemes worked very well, making it quite atmospheric. Nice.
This is a great, original, well-executed game with an excellent core mechanic. The slight 3D look of it only adds to the overall feel.
I felt the sounds were a little generic (bfxr?) and the absolutely cute graphics are crying out for an equally cute soundtrack.
Overall - great game.
A short game with a big moral message.
Not enough games these days have such strong moral messages for the kids. This was a short game that was a REFLECTION on our looks-obsessed society (see what I did there).
The only improvement I'd suggest is to have a way to skip the dialog, or move it along a bit faster.
Loved the graphics, and the zombie sounds were very good. My only criticism is that I couldn't see my bullets, but this is an enjoyable, well-presented, well-rounded game.
Quite absorbing, although I agree with other commenters who said that the bridges were too long. Nice music too.
The cartoony graphics were pretty cool, although you did spill a large number of bottles of ketchup across my screen a few times.
An endless runner mixed with a rhythm game. Difficult, but insanely fun. Are you sponsored by one of the big burger corporations because now I'm hungry :)
Harsh message, but probably a good lesson for the kids. A little disturbing that I couldn't bring peace to the world.
Intriguing.
Lovely graphics and very fitting music. It was a little slow at times, but I can forgive it that because it just looks so great. I was hoping for a longer game but even so I really enjoyed this.
After you said, "writing on dead trees", all I could think about were the poor trees. I had visions of you leaping out the front door and scrawling messages on fallen trees. I wonder if your neighbours think that the neighbourhood is haunted by the phantom tree scribbler. :)
I like the minimalist graphics, and the power up was amazing! I have to say that it got a bit easy after a while, but it's still a nice little game.
Beautifully drawn.
I was chuffed to see a game about a train and once I saw that you were selling me on my childhood dream, "This could be you!" I nearly went off the rails. Enjoyed this, but would have liked some sound.
Definitely has that "just one more go" thing.
Fan-bloody-tastic! Great played as a two player co-op game, although my wife and I kept ending up divorced, although eventually she called me a magnificent beast. Splitting up has never been so much fun.
Great to see someone so young taking part in Ludum Dare. I hope you keep at it. I wouldn't be surprised if you rank higher than your Dad one day.
Adorable.
Very inventive. Everyone in my family felt the same way about the theme, but you have come up with an excellent way to get around it and use it at the same time. Nicely done!
The conversation starters were brilliant. But now I know that you can start conversations with other options than "Daaaaaaaaaad!"
I am proud of you.
--- Dad
Surreal. Clearly you are a game developer though as you developed a game.
Nice animations and pixel art.
Rather difficult, but I like the graphics. Luckily orphans don't rely on my game playing skills to survive.
Interesting take on the theme.
Charming graphics and an excellent idea, well implemented. Very original. Great job!
I enjoyed the game. The passengers are a little on the rude side, but that's probably par for the course for taxi drivers. The other taxis are a rather aggressive which made them tricky to avoid. The pixel art worlds are charming.
Definitely innovative, although I suspect I may be tone deaf.
Short, but a good use of the theme. I would like to see more levels, which is definitely a good thing.
This is hilarious and fun. Toilet humour always goes down well, and the game has a colourful cartoony vibe.
My first thought was, "oh no, not another literal take on the theme", but I am glad that I persevered as I really enjoyed this.
I found level 7 particularly tough, but eventually scraped through.
I like the look and feel of the graphics and the game itself was pretty fun. It just needs a bit more balance and polish, but it certainly had a large element of "one more go." Good effort.
It took me a while to figure out what to do, but then I'm old. The advice that @bentog gave you is excellent. Don't let some of the harsher comments take away from what you've done. You've made a game and submitted it in 48 hours, and there are very few people who are able to do that. You're going to get better with practice, particularly if you take on board some of the more constructive advice.
I look forward to seeing what you do in LD31.
This has legs. I hope you develop this more post-compo. Really well done.
Pretty, stylish and atmospheric. I thought the effects were nice, and it's clearly a big game. The change in music between the different worlds worked very well.
Very clear, amusing graphics. The game has a flaw in that it is possible to last for a very long time if you sacrifice 2 guys then just keep swapping resources between the remaining 2.
The "Nelson" poetry made me laugh. Professionally done and rather enjoyable. You could potentially adapt this for phone or tablet.
The graphics are really good and it shows that you gave a lot of care to them.
The concept is great, and I love the shaky effect. Would have loved some sound.
I like the cat animations, and the mirrored controls make for an interesting, innovative puzzler.
Is there a "restart level" option?
My wife played this for several minutes as she's very good at this kind of game (in fact, I had to stop her so that I could review the game). Her one criticism was that once you get the ball bouncing wildly, it's actually quite easy to keep going without doing very much, particularly as the power-ups are quite abundant.
She is now telling me, "tell him to finish it. I want to play more!"
However, that being said, the concept is *excellent* and brings something new to the genre. I liked the detail on the ships, the scrolling effect, and the effect on the boundary between the two worlds.
Would have loved some sounds - this is crying out for some chiptunes.
Overall, great job.
Nice puzzles. The hamster is adorable. However, is it ok to throw him off the edge just to hear his death scream?
Very funny, great story, superb ending. If I have one criticism, it's quite difficult to play, taking the combined talents of me and my wife to be able to complete the game. However, we're very happy that we did - great game!
I should have tried this on a larger screen, as the smaller screen seemed to be small and fiddly. But then, I'm ancient and my eyes are not what they used to be. Good idea though - the screen gets quite crowded with leaping characters.
It took a few minutes to figure out what to do, but then I got into it and enjoyed it. This is a very good take on the theme.
Not a game for kids though. I'm relieved that my daughter couldn't figure it out when she played it as I really don't want to explain certain things to her.
You've done an excellent job balancing the interpretation of the theme with a fun game. The core mechanic is so simple, and yet it's very different from most of the other games I've seen. Great job.
Nice to see something on theme that didn't involve planets.
It was a lot of fun; however, it was a bit slow in places.
I like the presentation. The alien graphics are really nice.
Er... when are the tower blocks going to appear on the horizon? This reminded me of Czech cartoons that I never understood that are trying to convey some message that I just didn't quite get. Either that, or this is one of those modern art things.
I have to say that I really enjoyed the graphics and sounds, but I might never be the same again after this experience.
There are some wonderful little details in the backgrounds. Each time I walked through, I spotted something different, and I really thought the art style was great. But... was there a bug, because the guy teleported back home each time I went to the old folks' home (8 or 9 times).
So bizarre.
There I was, happily wandering around a planet when worlds started to crash around me. I began to wonder if I had a portable black hole in my pocket.
Quite innovative - I enjoyed the bright colourful planets smashing into each other. I think the core mechanic could have done with a little tuning, but it was fun nonetheless.
Such a strange name for the game, but it worked really well. I was highly amused by all of the characters and the ending...!
Short but sweet.
The main sprite looks great and it's most definitely on theme.
The characters and music gave it a cool creepy vibe, but it would have been nice to see stats (life, weird things activated, etc) on screen all the time.
An interesting take on the Flappy Bird mechanic. Looks wonderful.
Beautiful pixel art, and I really liked how the connection was between the generations.
Those traders are evil, money-grabbing pigs.
On the plus side, your graphics are clear and far better than anything I can do and the game idea looks very interesting.
We've all had Ludum Dares that we haven't quite finished (my first one in LD14 was particularly embarrassing).
I think the instructions could have been a bit clearer. However, carry on and please keep making games. It gets easier the more you do it.
Good game. The music gives a good feeling of urgency.
However, I found that it sometimes didn't register keypresses (I played it a few times to double-check that it wasn't a one-off).
Very enjoyable, but slightly frustrating having to start from the beginning each time. However, that does rather make your point...
That's quite a challenging platformer to an old guy with bad reflexes. However, I enjoyed some of the powerups, even if the reverse direction one broke my brain. Nice art style too.
I couldn't figure out if I was actually damaging my opponent.
I found the controls a little floaty. Also, perhaps a NSFW warning!
Is it wrong that I enjoyed squashing the dudes? Very original concept.
It is a little too easy to solve the puzzles by treating things more or less individually (ie, once you can get a character to the goal then they're out of the game), but the overall aesthetic is good.
This is stylish and attractive. It is one of those games where you play for a few seconds, you get killed, you try again, and again, and then suddenly it clicks and you're in the zone. This will be staying on my hard drive after LD. Definitely my type of game.
I was going to say "it's somewhat reminiscent of Geom..." then my typing tailed off as I saw who wrote it. So, thanks for two games that I enjoy.
It's a little short, but it nails the theme. More levels would be very welcome.
Very atmospheric indeed. The art style and music complemented each other. I liked how you interpreted the connected worlds theme as awake and dreaming... and those were some nightmares!
That was quite tricky to control, but the graphics are cute and the sounds are quite amusing. My wife controlled the dog and kept weeing on me (as a dog I mean, not IRL).
This is a solid game based on a good idea. I think it would have benefited from some sound effects and a bit of chrome to reward your progression, but it has the makings of being something very good indeed. I like it.
The movement was a little awkward in places, but overall this was a great idea.
What a vibrant look and feel. It's a little unintuitive when figuring out where you want to go, but the art style is really original.
Fantastic implementation in 48 hours, but there are some nice touches in the animations. Are you planning on continuing with this after the competition?
One thing I would like to see - the ability to speed up time.
The enemy bullets could do with disappearing a bit quicker, and I was also able to shoot after being killed. However, the blobby things are quite cute and I like the animations. Nice.
Cracking good pixel art and a fun game. Definitely has the one more go factor, and as I'm typing this my wife is asking, no DEMANDING even, another go. As I value my life, I....
The themes are rather true to the typical Ludum Dare theme. Instead of voting in #LD32 perhaps we could use this next time.
Bit of a click fest. But have to love a game with cats.
I was very impressed by your previous entries and was not disappointed by this one. There are wild and wacky Ludum Dare games and there are polished ones, but rarely do the two meet so nicely.
My wife has attempted to play this game for her "Mum plays..." series: http://youtu.be/VKfIMzutXQ8
In fact she may still be playing it now.
This game does exactly what it says on the tin.
It played well enough, but I had problems whenever the mouse left the window which happened rather too often. I know that's Flash not you.
The screaming took me by surprise, despite the comments here. Those firemen sure do make a lot of noise when they see a mosquito.
Lovely graphics. I'm intrigued by the title. Why is it called "True Story"? Did you get attacked by ocelots?
Kids today just don't appreciate the good old times.
Very nicely presented - the art is excellent - but what a shame that there's no sound as this would have topped off the game's overall experience.
Nicely animated. The cute graphics contrast with the mild frustration.
Very nice art style and a good idea for a game. That Pug Queen is vicious!
My wife made a "Mum plays ...." video of her playing this game: http://youtu.be/D6crKskdeFQ
I can see where little girls will really like this. My daughter would have loved it when she was younger. Obviously she would want to be able to do things like move furniture, change the colour of things, etc. But it is a good starting point and a really nice easy to use interface. And all in 48 hours. Wow!
Beautifully presented. It's very cute how this is set in the theatre. It would have been a nice touch if the ghosts had wires attached (as it's the theatre) but this is really, really nice.
Intriguing. I played 2 player with my wife, and then we were so inspired that we went to the fridge and recreated scenes from the game. Your version was more fun.
A nice little puzzler - well presented and rather fun.
I couldn't solve it myself, but my future self came back and told me how to do it as it remembered me coming back in time to tell myself.
There's nothing like a causal loop to start the day.
That's a whole lot of fun, presented very well. The only weak point is the music, even then it's not bad. I was being overly critical, the difficulty is a little patchy (subtle pirate joke there). Excellent game!
Strangely compelling. At first it messed with my eyes, but I got over that and found myself enjoying the game. The music is really well matched with the game.
Wall jumping is your friend. Although now I'm going to have that song stuck in my head for the rest of the day. Bright and colourful with a snowman ninja. What's not to like! I managed 406.
But did you opt out of ratings, because I don't see any.
My wife has done a Mum Play's of this game: http://youtu.be/EmJXZyB6vYM
This was a very different take on the theme, and indeed on a platformer. It's complete and well thought out.
My wife made a "Mum plays..." of your game: http://youtu.be/ikVR1T6hCzI
Just tried the post-jam version. The music and sounds really add to it. My wife is sitting beside me now raving about how good your game is becoming - and how original it is too. A good game just got better.
It would be nice if the destruction of the buildings was dependent on where the bomb hit, but you have some nice little touches in here, such as the way that the bombs glow on the way down.
Sound effects are funny.
It's a big deal that you made a game with these mechanics in such a short timeframe. Everything works pretty well and it looks rather like a board game - it just needs balancing to make it more fun.
It looks absolutely beautiful and has a lot of potential, but it starts really, really slowly. The lighting is just stunning.
Interesting mechanic, gradually revealing what you have to do. I can't say more without spoilers. Clever.
Simply superb. A game about bacon, and other meats. It's a shame that I have zero cooking talent in real life, but at least I managed to keep my virtual family happy.
Lots of fun - I enjoyed it.
My wife did a "Mum plays..." of this game: http://youtu.be/eyIgjesH2cg
Hard as hell, even on easy mode, but definitely different. I loved the death scenes. Both the tesseract mechanic and the red light / green light of the eye made for an interesting game. Just a shame I'm not coordinated enough to play it to the end (thanks for providing the walkthrough).
Pretty good, with an intriguing mechanic. Crying out for some sound though.
It's very pretty to look at, but it could do with some calm music to help with the mood.
That is just freaking awesome. Outstanding even. There are some good games in this Ludum Dare, but this is probably the most original that I've seen so far.
I felt so proud of myself when I found that I was juggling successfully.
What an excellent game. The snowman's face is really well done too.
My wife made a "Mum Plays...." video of your game. http://youtu.be/FeNYK5VrgLo
She does not do it the justice it deserves.
Is it me or did I kill some members from a religious sect?
The graphics in this are really cute. I can see lots of young kids playing this as it is really apPEELing to that age group.
My wife did a "Mum plays..." of this game: http://youtu.be/tL_KD5xLQkU
To answer the question, my friends were right about you!
This was an engrossing game. It was a bit repetitive in places, but I played to the end (I think) and I definitely enjoyed the experience. I wouldn't add anything or take anything away - just make it slightly less of a grind to unlock things.
I wonder if a game like this would work in episodes, in which you unlock an unfolding story.
Again, very enjoyable.
I would have liked a bigger screen. The second enemy that I came up against took a lot of killing, then some of the later ones were easier to kill. I also liked the variety.
It sets a very claustrophobic mood, mostly because you know they're out there but you can't see them. The graphics are absolutely spot on for the game. I would have liked to have had a little more control over the weapons.
Very buggy game. :p In all seriousness, the graphics are really nice.
It's a nice cross between a point and click and hidden object game. The graphics are really good, however from a player perspective it would be nice to either have a bit more clues to see where to click or some form of highlighting to know what are clickable objects.
Overall a poignant tale.
Certainly innovative. It's rather good that the characters change what they do when they're killed, as it keeps you on your toes. It's a little bloody for a game that uses boxes as weapons, but I guess that's a canonical representation of death. Nice game.
It's a little hard to kill the enemies, but otherwise it's a solid game.
My wife did a "Mum plays..." of this: http://youtu.be/-__rTAMlHag
You nailed the gameboy look and sound, and the animations on the main character were pretty good.
Your game making skills are definitely improving. Keep going!
I never knew there were so many ways a snowman could meet his maker. The graphics are extremely cute and make the game.
My wife made a "Mum plays..." of your game: http://youtu.be/1F4aMPeGQEU
I found it a bit quick. If you had more time, then perhaps you could have added complexity. Cute graphics.... good thing there was no bus around.
That's rather frantic and fun. Great job.
Well, that's most definitely on theme, at least twice over! The spider animations were good. If I were being critical I would say that I did feel a little disconnected from the action occasionally.
The music is great, and it looks good too, but the gameplay is let down by the "cheat" with the ball. Damn shame, because otherwise this could have been a cracking breakout game.
Apparently you can't shoot your problems with magic. Clearly that's what I've been doing wrong all my life!
The animation of the little man is good.
My wife did a "Mum plays..." of this game: http://youtu.be/m38MhRbdMxQ
Well, this is a little gem and no mistake. Highly original and fun too. Great game.
Black Friday gone mad. It's an interesting idea, but I would have dearly loved to have seen a splash when the shoppers are hurled into the river.
It took me a little while to figure out what was going on, but I suspect that's probably true when you're under fire anyway. Good idea, well implemented.
I think with a bit of polish this would be a great interactive toy for younger kids.
Unity Player crashed on me part way through the game. It might be worth republishing the game.
The music is good, but the gameplay could do with being a bit tighter. Also, putting it all on the player to figure out what is going on might not be the best strategy.
What an excellent game!
I made a terrible job of making a snowman. He looked like the creature from the pit, but at least he stood upright.
My wife made a "Mum plays..." of this game: http://youtu.be/WHu4VKqlFcg
(and it was one of her favourites so far)
Well presented, but it would definitely benefit from a colour-blind mode.
A solid entry and a good interpretation of the theme. I am, however, mightily glad that I have a desk job and that you are not (I hope) a warehouse designer.
My wife made a "Mum plays..." of your game: http://youtu.be/flMrNd6UmQE
An interesting take on a maze.
Atmospheric and mind bending. It is refreshing to see something different that doesn't go to "cute".
An interesting combination of genres. I thought it was a little easy, but given that I'm older than both Pong and Invaders I grew up playing both games..
The music was perfect for the game.
It was a little on the easy side, but it was a lot of fun. Loved the retro art style and the snowman animations.
My wife made a "Mum plays..." of this game: http://youtu.be/9Ov0P6zVOiQ
The look of the game reminded me of Ghosts n Goblins. It's quite a hard game, but that fits well with its old school look and feel.
Visually this has a nice, retro-style with matching sound effects. It would have been nice if it branched off into surrealism as the game progressed.
My wife did a "Mum plays..." of this game: http://youtu.be/TGKTenX_oxU
Very diverting. This game is simple but very playable. I particularly like that you implemented a core mechanic and created a number of levels from it. I certainly got the "oh, I'll play just one more level..." feeling from it which is definitely a good thing.
Ha, ha, ha, ha, very literal!
Not entirely on theme, but it plays well and looks great.
Really set that 80s/90s vibe, although that's a remarkably clean circuit board. This is a nice take on the theme and it looks good.
My wife did a "Mum plays..." of this game: http://youtu.be/exE2rA3HscQ
Great look, great sounds and music, but it's a shame that it's so short!
My wife made a "Mum plays..." of this game: http://youtu.be/zlSHOfgjfUY
Mood: creepy!
Confusing at first, but it hits the theme very well. It could do with being a bit larger on screen for old gits like me. Oddly enough, this might make a good board game.
Very funny indeed. I think I killed more people by clubbing them to death than by feeding them to Willy, but that's just my general ineptitude.
It was good to see the passage of time and the parallax scrolling was very well done too. The game gets very frantic once you've disposed of the first wave of aliens!
Really good for your first game. Very smooth and complete.
It's reminiscent of Papers Please, but it's rather tricky to control. Other than that, it's a coherent experience, although don't tell any young kids that Santa looks like Brian Blessed meets Vlad the Impaler.
The graphics and music were very good - Annika herself was fantastic. However, the gore and the look and feel of the game were slightly incongruous, but it had a certain charm to nonetheless. I have to say that I preferred Arcade Mode.
I didn't realise that cat breeding could be quite so dangerous. Nice take on the theme.
This a rather cool game. I like the screen effect and the animations of the player character were very well done. And yes, there is some similarity to my game but you've done animation that I could only dream of.
My wife did a "Mum plays..." video of your game: http://youtu.be/7hIPc3eOxoQ
Also, the Kaiser music is rather good and adds a lot to the mood.
@oscarabraham by all means go ahead.
Good game mechanic, but why did you have to make it so small? I'm nearly 100 you know, at least in base 7, and even with glasses...!
This is an exquisite, beautiful game. Absolutely stunningly good. You really have something here.
I would love to see more levels, and my wife is telling me that she'd pay for it if there are more levels.
Truly, this is a really lovely game, beautifully implemented.
I have to admit that it took me quite a while to find my character in the beginning. The game certainly has a good mood to it, with some nice touches such as the splashing water effect.
Nicely implemented, and fun too. The music and visuals work really well.
Certainly a good first entry, and, as you say, you'll know what to do better next time. I hope you enjoyed this Ludum Dare and that you'll enter again in April.
I rather liked the gun noise - it sounded good.
My landlord about 20 years ago was an opera singer, but I don't think he ever had to fend off rockets!
First, the bad news. The game was fairly easy to play and didn't seem to progress much. But the good news is that the graphics are impeccable and have a lot of character, and the actual idea of an actual Space Opera is pure bonkers craziness!
Next, I want a bit of Handel. Early space opera would be great.
Interesting concept. I like how you integrated the music with the game.
A little bit of sound would have helped tremendously, but this game has charming graphics and is fun to play.
Apparently my dog can't bark up and down. I enjoyed the early 80s sounds. It reminded me of some of the early games on the original IBM PC, back when I was still dodging dinosaurs.
Well, that was definitely not what I expected from an arena shooter. Quite stylish in its own way, and I like the chiptunes.
Ha ha, very clever idea. Would have been hilarious with lamposts. Nicely presented and loved the music. It's a complete package and a nice little diversion.
The idea is excellent, because you have to balance the need to shoot the enemies with the fact that you're the only one who can shoot yourself. Makes for an interesting, thoughtful shooter.
My wife made a "Mum plays..." for this game: http://youtu.be/PoPckd4v5gg
Cooperative games are excellent. My wife and I really enjoyed playing this one together (ok, she hid and I played and put her back together). Charming little game!
My wife made a "Mum plays..." of this game: http://youtu.be/B_pV19k5gRo
The graphics and music were really well matched, and the music itself was quite catchy. I thought the game itself was a little on the easy side, but it was still enjoyable. The crabs were particularly well animated.
And any game with bacon in it is going to get my vote.
Simple, yet cute and polished. Very nice and a good ad for your engine.
My wife did a "Mum plays..." of this game: http://youtu.be/Ke1z2s1Gh_g
It's a really, really good idea and I would be interested to see a post-compo version with tighter controls.
On theme in more ways than one.
@Thingo Studios ha ha - glad you liked it. I've been saving some of those up for years. Being from the UK I hadn't heard of Tom Magliozzi before but I did a bit of research and found some of his puns. Excellent stuff!
@xgeovanni I've released a Linux build. I don't have a way of testing it, so please let me know if it works.
@xgeovanni thanks for trying it. Glad the Linux build works.
My dad claims that he went to school with Richard Head. Maybe it didn't mean the same back then.
Well, that's a very different take on the theme, but it works well. I like it. It does get rather frantic, but that's part of its charm.
It is a shame that there is no category for controls, because you absolutely nailed it on this one. The game, despite its lo-fi look, is polished and is a clever interpretation of the theme. The attention to detail is very good, from the screen shake to the spent cartridges.
My wife, who normally hates this kind of game, really enjoyed playing it.

My wife, who normally hates this kind of game, really enjoyed playing it. She added it to her "Mum plays..." series here: http://youtu.be/MWYF-TuJ2Lk
Why is my penguin so mad at the other penguins? Am I a psychopath penguin or did they kill my brother?
I always wondered why I was scared of clowns.
I always thought that Fry from Futurama looked a bit shifty! Seriously though, this game is hilarious, and although I could kind of see it coming, I still enjoyed the ending. Nicely done.
A beautiful atmospheric entry.
Slightly tricky controls. I like how the caramels sometimes bounce off the sides of the bag.
I feel sorry for the teachers at this school. Having said that, most teachers are younger than me, so they don't know what school was REALLY like.
Humorous entry. Enjoyed it.
I know from experience that no one gets between a little girl and her teddy bear! Nicely done - fun game.
No idea why it isn't working for me, but it plays a tune and stops. It keeps crashing my browser (firefox).
I feel like I'm back in Wiltshire. I enjoyed that, but my laptop did rather struggle to maintain anything like a decent frame rate. Funny, and very amusing, and playable despite the lag (probably my laptop, not the game).
"I've got a brand new combine harvester..."
I am not sure what kind of restaurant you generally go to, but they seem to have a rather unconventional dress code.
Very original, very re-playable. +1 for Monkey Island references. I liked how I had to use my brain to play it.
Is it wrong that I kind of wanted the ending going the other way with all of the hearts breaking? An excellent game - made me laugh a lot! My wife thinks the bully looks a lot like Iggy Pop. Highly enjoyable.
Loved the graphics, and the pixel art details in the background were just awesome. It could be expanded by having a list of foods that you had to season to fulfil orders. Very cute game.
I really wanted to get a chance to use the spudcannon.
This is a good idea with a solid implementation. I like it. It's challenging without being unfair.
Very pleased with myself for having won!
The web player threw a few exceptions while it was running, but it played fine nonetheless. Hairspray fumes alone would kill almost anything, but I hear that nail polish remover is perfect for anything with a functioning respiratory system.
Very amusing. Enjoyed it immensely. However, I am not convinced that my actions really had consequences!
I wish there was more guidance as to how effective different deployments are.
It's as frustrating as it was in the old days. It is just like the real thing. I got as far as the bank, had nothing in my inventory, and suddenly realized that unlike the old days, I couldn't go asking my mates for advice.
The writing is very good. I just wish I could have progressed further.
I can't help to think you need to do a level where mum tries to visit the bathroom in peace.
This was really good. A very innovative concept and it has that "one more go" factor. My only criticism is that the code itself could be a bit closer to the action to bring it slightly closer to the field of vision.
I had a spot of bother double-jumping so I couldn't get off the bottom level, but I managed to throw a lot of icicles.
Great tune, and the graphics are spot on for the game. It has a nice aesthetic too. I liked the fact that everything was double-tap.
More laughs than a barrel full of monkeys. A fun game, and I like to see how you played the Green card by deploying a biodegradable weapon. One of the better games that I've seen.
A little easy to play, but still, it's amusing!
It took a while to figure out what was going on. I hadn't realized that fairies were quite so malevolent.
Simple to play, but a bit text heavy. If you'd had some sprites and animation then that would have hugely added to the enjoyment.
Honest gov, it wasn't me, it was the game.
Love the sound effects. Just how much helium did you have to use in the making of this game? Shows it doesn't have to be highly graphical to be highly playable.
I myself thought the boombox was a bit on the small side. Interesting game mechanic. I think I had beginner's luck on the first play as I played all the way through and no one died of sadness, but my subsequent attempts were more like my attempts at dancing in real life, ie, not so good.
Killed when I made an errer (error).
I like how your typing game requires people to look at the screen, not their fingers.
I like typing games in general anyway... a very successful interpretation of the theme.
It was rather text heavy (if there was a way to skip through the text in the tutorial then I didn't find it) but other than that I have no complaints. It played pretty well and had a nice retro vibe going on.
Congratulations on making an ambitious game and doing it justice in the limited time.
Played it all the way through. Found myself wanting more which is always a good sign. Nicely done. Enjoyed it very much.
I knew that celery in the back of the fridge would have a use some day! The Carrot King was excellent. Enjoyed playing this.
I am still trying to figure out what kind of animal it is. Is it a pig with wings? Nicely presented, but it is rather easy as you can just spam the "poop" button to get 3 stars on all of the levels.
It had a bit of an art film feel to it. The software you used looked cool and I like the gratuitous use of Lincoln. I did half want the girlfriend to end up being Darth Vader though.
Hmmmm. I had to answer "yes" to all of the questions as quickly as possible. It would have been more interesting if sometimes the answer had to be "no".
I never thought trying to prevent meteors would be sooooo relaxing. Very polished, fully fledged, and a really fun game.
Found a little bug in that the spawn point for one of the teachers was the place that I happened to be standing as a level started, trapping me between the teacher and the edge of the game.
That aside, it was fun to play, with amusing animations and sound effects. It reminds me of some of the Wii games that you get in Wario Ware.
Good concept. It needs a bit of tuning, because sometimes you just get an unlucky combination of numbers.
My only complaint would be that judging by this game, Canadians have no tolerance for alcohol. Nicely done though - I liked the effects as you got colder.
The creatures were simultaneously sinister and yet somehow adorable. The Mona Lisa has let herself go!
Where was this when I was hunting for ideas?
It seemed to crash after I'd finished in the shop.
If only I could really make it rain.
I'm always happy when it rains.
Don't be disheartened that you didn't finish; we have ALL been there.
I thought that the combination of cut-out figures and photographic backgrounds worked very well.
I get that I'm playing a bear, but why is he so bouncy? Is he the unholy offspring of Tigger and Pooh?
Short, sweet and fun!
Very cute presentation and a good take on the theme.
Love the Easter-Egg. It was more fun getting the money off the patrons that way. Fantastic pixel art, great expressions and animations. A very good, enjoyable entry.
Simple idea, executed well. Loved his face when he puffed up.
Sometimes you do end in a state from which you can't escape losing health. But other than that I have no complaints
Plays well.
I like where it could go, but it isn't there yet. It would be nice if there was a destruction tree or limited resources for destruction.
I think of you developing it into the opposite of sim city.
The only thing missing was unicorns! It plays very well and I like the presentation, particularly the effect on the title text. Definitely fun to play. Cracking tune too!
It would appear that my daughter has been practising to be a waiter at your restaurant, at least given by the way she always throws food on the floor.
Enjoyed the sound effects. Gracias Senor!
It would make an excellent "how to use a mouse" game for kids. I liked the zombie cows.
I really liked the image of the old lady fighting with her deadly triangle.
It was funny and had a good interface. Good fun.
I was able to get quite a long way just by keeping X held down. When I tried to be a bit more discerning then I died - a lot! Good first LD - hope to see what you do next time.
Damn, that was AWESOME! You have created a fully fledged original concept in 72 hours. The wife and I loved it. It was everything you could want from an interactive novel. And the ending made us laugh - I always had my suspicions about that corporation!
Very smooth motion. Loved the little "Daleks". Good to see you try to put your dad in his place (coming from a dad whose daughter beat him last time she competed).
Keep up the good work. Very impressed with how well the controls worked.
Visually stunning, I wish it had sound to complement that. You paid good attention to detail - I liked the flickering strip light, and the screen shake, as everything came flying back onto the screen, was spot on.
It looked fantastic, but it was really tricky to play. Perhaps as others have commented, improving the feedback to the player would make it easier to understand when the player has done something right or wrong.
Good take on the theme, but I think it needs a bit of balancing. I couldn't really tell the difference between the effects of the weapons. Nice idea though - it would be interesting to see where you take it.
Interesting use of Lemmings style mechanics. The little followers were quite cute.
Dang it, how am I going to do the dishes now that I threw the kitchen sink into the vacuum of space. Fantastic take on the theme!
The game itself is fun in its own right, but what really makes it for me is the tv effect. It has some nice touches (loved the dot-crawl around the title) and adds a ton of atmosphere to the game.
Nice idea. I like how everything breaks into pieces when it's hit. Fun.
I was disappointed that finishing the Marathon didn't unlock a special "Proclaimers" mode where I had to walk 500 miles then walk 500 more.
Damn, my hands are broken from running so much. It took me nearly 3 hours to complete the marathon and I think I need a new keyboard. Also, I'm sure that I don't remember Liz McColgan's nose being that big.
Ok, I lied. I only ran the 800 metres, but even then, my hands aren't what they used to be. This is like playing Track 'n' Field all over again. It's a fun game - I wonder if it would translate to multiplayer.
Like pacman with robotic ashes and path-finding! I actually quite liked the path-finding, as I didn't have to micro-manage every move the character made. It's a pity that you weren't able to develop it further in the time, but I get it - life gets in the way!
That was a lot of fun, although eventually it crashed with an out of memory error. I enjoyed playing this, despite apparently not knowing much about the alphabet. Very good.
That was fun, although I struggled to get beyond the snow level. Your pixel art was great. The gameplay made me think that the world needs a game that's a combination of Flappy Bird and Joust. Nicely done.
I kept getting stuck trying to escape from the engine after loading coal into it, and the main character's movement was quite "floaty". It would have been cool if there had been other hazards, such as the occasional bridge to duck under.
I appreciated the distinctive graphical style.
Keep at it.
I rather enjoyed that, more than I expected to. It's simple, stylish and polished, and fun too. I could have done with more frequent save points, but that's a reflection on my lack of ability rather than on the game itself. Very nice indeed.
I don't know what it says about me wanting an alien infestation so that I could put them all into the furnace. This was a very, very funny game with humorous writing. The mini-games were a nice touch too. My new motto, "if it's not nailed down, put it in the furnace!" ... which has my family a little worried about me.
I got to 12.5km then the game crashed. The voice acting was very amusing and made quite a difference to the game.
Fantastic idea. It would have been better if it was clearer how to make circuits, but once I figured it out, I thought it was quite a good game - definitely scoring high for innovation.
The graphics took me back in time. They were very good, and the game was humorous too. It's a shame that you didn't get around to the sound, but even without it the game had a great early 90s feel to it.
This is reminiscent of Osmos. I like the core mechanic and you've implemented it well, although, admittedly I would have liked everything to move just that little bit faster.
The animations, particularly on the flowing fluid, were great. I hope my local power station has better safety procedures than the way that I ran this one, but with all the cut backs and cost savings these days the engineers probably do run on coffee. Funny game!
I liked the 90s aesthetic, and it was good to see a story to link all of the puzzles together.
That was strangely enjoyable, although the car runs out of power more frequently than an electric car.
1. I got to drive a car like a maniac without my wife getting cross with me. 1. I had the unusual (and amusing) experience of parking my car after running out of gas, getting out, then racing my car back down the hill when it started to roll. 1. The driving sounds are spot on.
I suck so badly at playing this game, but it's reminiscent of Super Meat Boy in terms of gameplay and Commander Keen in terms of looks. The levels seem to be very well thought out, and I always felt that when I died it was my fault. All it needs is a jolly 16-bit tune and it'll be good to go.
That was a fun game. I enjoyed some of the little touches, such as the re-entry heat when you point your spaceship down. I didn't make it to the ground though - my concentration tends to wander after a long day's work, diminishing my reaction time. Great little game.
And there I was thinking that pandas was something to do with data science. This is a fun little game. The hand-drawn graphics are (to quote my wife) "adorable". I liked that you made a mini-map too.
Can you provide more details on the "true story" that this game is based on. Enquiring minds want to know.
The game certainly has a certain ambience to it. It is aesthetically pleasing and consistent. I enjoyed the little touches, such as the palm trees blowing in the wind and the yacht sailing by. The music was a nice touch too.
I think I need a refund on that phone though as the battery runs down far too quickly.
That was educational. I was very careful in how I balanced my reactor and got through on the first try, but I only got 28MWh. Perhaps I should have played for the explosion!
Mrs Columbo is sitting next to me saying, "the best part is the child!" I have to admit that the game does bring back memories of telling my daughter stories every night, each of which would contain interjections from her such as, "Dad! That's not what happened. You're telling it wrong!" Clearly my imagination can do no right.
The drawings were also very good and I'm being informed by Mrs Columbo that this game is her favourite so far. There are too many games that involve shooting, or violence, or batteries running down, so this was original and refreshing. She even called my not so little any more daughter into the room to play the game, and even she had a wry grin at the "oct oct here".
Nice and original. That 90 degree turn defeated me. In fact, I took so long trying to beat that level that Mrs Columbo decided it would be a good idea to start playing Peppa Pig singing [I'm a Wiggly Worm](https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=5&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwiCyZz289TVAhUCOsAKHd1hBusQtwIIPTAE&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DhLaV6H0kwuk&usg=AFQjCNGG73Dt0hz698Je50E0rqg64t7GGg) to help me get into character.
Fantastic intro and great presentation. It was a little difficult to see what the rapper was saying whilst trying to play the game and collect energy - shame that you couldn't rap that, as it would have been hilarious.
That is rather nice. The game was very intuitive to play and reminded me a little of [Puzzle Agent](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puzzle_Agent). I felt that the music and art worked very well together, and the story was intriguing. My only criticism is that the importance of the music box could have been woven into the story a bit more seamlessly - once I was made aware of it, the game really became just a quest to find the things that I needed to get to the music box.
I played through to the end despite my bad typing. Very amusing! I enjoyed the humorous messages on the phone, plus all of the little comments by "Stapley". Mrs Columbo says that you should hook this up to Twitter and have it actually send the tweets if people don't type it in time. However, perhaps you already did...
This was reminiscent of games such as Thrust and Gravitar but set underwater. I thought that the graphics were very good, and the game itself had the "one more go" factor. My type of game!
This would make a nice mobile game - it's a good little puzzler. My only real criticism is that the screen was a little small for my old eyes.
The cat animation is great - I like how he/she appears to lick his/her lips at the end of each level. Just add some purring and miaowing and it'll be good to go.
I liked the intro and the art style very much. Nicely presented. However, I did have to reassure my daughter that no unicorns were harmed in the making of this game... right?
Damn, that Energy Stealer is quick! There were several times when I would have just liked to have shot him, or at least bumped him out of the way. This has quite an old-school feel, which is fine by me!
I really liked the look of the cars and the main character, and the idea of going to phone boxes to get missions. I think all of the events in the game need to be made more obvious though. For example, I wasn't sure that I'd actually got a mission at first, because there wasn't really any feedback telling me that other than some text at the top of the screen. Likewise when I died - the first time I didn't even realise that it had happened because the little man was still moving about, albeit being pushed by a car. If he stayed still and had blood of him, then it would have been a lot clearer.
I appreciate these things take time though, and I really like how you implemented the cars. They had a lot of character.
Capture1.PNGCapture2.PNG
Best science kit I never bought. This was lots of fun. Gunpowder is the best by far.
The graphics in this are fantastic, even down to the animation on the main character. I'm very impressed. I also enjoyed combining different ingredients to see what happened.
Well, I'm most definitely a sucker for anything retro, particularly on pico8 which has a charm all of its own. You took the limitations of pico8 and worked within them to produce that fantastic, retro feel. That's a cracking good game!
My only glitch was in the shop, because I kept trying to press [Enter] to buy, which brought up the pause menu. For what it's worth, you can disable it with this poke (running it once per frame seems to do the trick).
function disable_pause() poke(0x5f30, 1) end
Great game!
I enjoyed the death animation, which is perhaps just as well as I saw it rather often! I thought that the jet-pack was a bit on the slow side to react. The music was nice - I liked it.
That was a good laugh. I enjoyed seeing the zombie ponies, the music was excellent, and you really captured the art style of Ghosts'n'Goblins. The fact that I could only play for a few seconds before dying reminded me of playing the real thing in the arcades before retreating to spend my hard gained 10p coins in something easier.
Looks great! On my first go I almost won, but on subsequent attempts my fingers were too tired. This reminds me of all those old games such as Daley Thompson's Decathlon.
[Daley Thompson's Decathlon](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXzboR3encQ).
It felt a lot like an office job. It was effective at simulating the too much to do, not enough time. It was interesting to see such a range of decision making, and it all fell on me. The only criticism is that the same questions came up multiple times.
I liked the police cars. At one point I thought I was going to recreate a scene from The Blues Brothers with a whole swarm of police on my tail, but it was not to be. It would also have been nice if you could divert the police onto some of the hazards on the track.
Overall, I enjoyed playing the game, but I think the balance needs a little tuning. Definitely fun!
I enjoyed this far more than I expected to. The writing was very good, and there were some interesting choices to make. It recreated the D&D experience rather well.
The idea of having the wizard follow you is a good one. That old guy doesn't move as fast; I know just how he feels!
It's an ambitious compo entry, but it works. It's very clever, with an amusing take on the theme. Nice little soundtrack too. I'm surprised you don't have many ratings - this game deserves to be seen.
That's "an ice" game. It took a little while to figure out what to do, but it has a good mechanic. My wife also liked it. Very original.
I like how the puzzler had you solving multiple mazes at once. I haven't seen something like this before; very original.
Well, this definitely had a touch of the one-more-go about it. I particularly liked how you made it very easy to restart rather than dumping me back to a title screen, so of course I kept trying again and again. I like it.
So, I've learned that the most important person in a project is the gopher, otherwise no one else would get any work done.
I liked the concept of combining things to make them work, as I kept going to see what I could do next. Very inventive.
Even though there isn't a huge ton of gameplay yet, I spent a lot longer on this than I planned to. It's a sheer joy to fly that plane, particularly with the biplane sound effects. I'd love to play this more when it is done.
Not bad at all! Very good, in fact. You mad me remember that I still like this style of gameplay, particularly with the shiny, neon aesthetic. I particularly liked how the levels would become more complicated - I'd initially expected screen after screen of empty arenas - that was a nice touch.
Well, that was quite an amusingly different take on the theme. I liked the names for the different attacks.
Hilarious! The graphics were sickeningly cute! My only problem: now everyone in my family is calling me Wodewick. I can't imagine why.
Initially I found it quite difficult, but then I think I found an exploit in that you can camp in the middle of the screen, letting enemies pile up, then just shoot them to get their batteries. However, I see where you were going with the mechanic and the game was literally on theme!
The idea reminded me very much of [Hunchback](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hunchback_(video_game)) from back in the day, but with the twist of having to back through a level. I liked it: it shows that you don't need cutting edge graphics to give the player an enjoyable experience. I couldn't help but feel that as I was powering the generator I was somehow instrumental in my own demise.
It would be interesting to see if you develop this further, because the game has a lot of potential. It's certainly original, and I'm glad that I played it. I agree with previous posters that the game needs audio, but it's a solid effort nonetheless. The writing really helped to set the tone of the game, so congratulations to the writer also.
I'm not sure what I was doing wrong, but I found it impossible to go up the ladders (using the keyboard). However, the look of the game is absolutely superb and the idea is fantastic. I just wish that I could have played it properly.
I was having a cup of tea and reviewing LD games when I found this one and played it until my tea went cold. It's a little gem: I really like the charming graphics, the music and the sound, and there were lots of other little details that elevated it into a fun little game. Very enjoyable.
It's good to see someone having a go at making a procedurally generated random maze, particularly one that gets larger and more difficult as you progress through the levels. You implemented this quite well. The graphics were simple, but effective, but I found it quite easy to play.
Nice work!
For a clicker, this was great. The graphics and animations were so good that I left the game running while rating other games so that I could get to the next level without breaking my finger or mouse. Btw, poor Franklin!
Mrs Columbo tells me that this would be a pretty good way for the math-reluctant to learn about coins / simple addition, and I agree with her. My only issue was that everything seemed a little dark so that I couldn't always distinguish one colour from another.
The guillotine was hilarious!
I think this was original and interesting, and could be a good educational game.
Damn, that was superb! I thought that the ability to absorb smaller enemies was an excellent use of the theme and it made for a nice variation on the shmup theme. Graphically and musically it reminded me of [Jamestown](http://store.steampowered.com/app/94200/Jamestown/).
The best part was General Donut's raging fury. He was a role model for us all! As others have commented, it was quite heavy on the exposition, but I had fun trying to find out what would happen next, exploring the different endings. Overall, very funny and original.
The game looks beautiful, although there are a couple of bugs. For instance, at one point it told me there were no enemies alive even though I was surrounded by what felt like about twenty of them. I think a bit of feedback on what was going on, even if it was just through rudimentary sound effects, would have added greatly to the feel of the game... and as others have said, the player needs to move more quickly.
The audio on this is very good, contributing greatly to the atmosphere. You've really managed to capture the dynamic of driving while married! I enjoyed this very much.
Very nice music - probably the best that I've heard so far. The text in the game had a bit of a melancholic feel to it, but at the same time the sounds and the visuals made the game quite relaxing to play.
Once Mrs Columbo and I figured out what to do, the game became quite enjoyable. Our biggest problem was remembering to press Escape rather than the Main Menu button, which got a little frustrating at times, but this is definitely original and interesting. My wife felt bad for the poor wizard in the "game over" panel, but liked how he appeared to walk away from the tragedy in a "carry on, nothing to see here!" manner.
It's well within the LD rules to put the directions on your game page, so perhaps if you did that then it might help others know what to do, because you have a nice game here.
Hats off to the artist as you recreated that 16-bit feeling really well. It played pretty well too, except that good old Windows' "sticky-keys" kept getting in the way. I really liked the way that the superhero would bend over as he got really tired ... I do that too!
I enjoyed the humour, particularly the "You're fired" effect at the end. The chunky pixel graphics worked well with the fonts that you used, and the sounds were perfect for the game.
A clever idea, well implemented. I liked that very much.
Argh, are my fingers tired or what! The sound was good, but there were times that I could barely hear it over the mashing of my keyboard.
I liked the art, and there were some nice touches in the level design, such as forcing me to go into "shield mode" to solve problems. As others have said, the physics need a bit of tuning, as it was too easy to get stuck on the landscape and felt a bit floaty. However, it's a really good effort, particularly given the time constraints.
Damn! That was Super Meat Boy good! I really enjoyed that. You tuned the levels to perfection, getting progressively harder with each level, making me feel that I was getting just a little better myself. There wasn't a level that I felt that I couldn't do with a bit of practice, although I did eventually get to one that had me stumped - for the time being.
The music was spot on and suited the game.
Very polished. Very nice. Damned good job. It was a pleasure to play and I wish that I could be more eloquent in my comments.
The art style in this game really stands out. It is beautiful in its simplicity, and the haunting Bach-esque music suited the setting perfectly. Really, really nice.
Ha ha! I like how the game blamed me at the end. I never realised that burgers could be so violent. The graphics worked very well, and the game mechanic was interesting. Tower Defence with fast food and fairies - who knew?
Mini-games were a good idea, but it would have been nicer to have more variety. That being said... 48 hours is not a lot of time, so credit to you for doing as many as you did.
My biggest problem was forgetting to steer, so I kept crashing into asteroids. However, the whole game was original, cohesive and nicely presented and was a very good interpretation of the theme.
That was a blast! I thought the "Ull is displeased" death scene was hilarious. Could have done with nicer sounds, but I'm not complaining - the game delivered what it promised.
I never knew how ferocious teddy bears could be. This was a little bit like story time with a toddler, because you just never know what kind of outlandish situations will be thrown at you. Fun!
Lovely game. The graphics and music are excellent, and I enjoyed the gentle flight dynamics. It would be interesting to see if this translates to VR. Mrs Columbo (my wife) wants to know why the squirrels are so angry.
It strikes me that it is quite difficult to make a cohesive text adventure in just a couple of days, so I'm quite impressed on that count. There were some nice little touches in there, particularly the brofist. Also, it's quite refreshing to play a text adventure without having to type, or curse the parser, or whatever else we had to do back in the old days. And no one sat down to start singing about gold.
I haven't given this a rating because unfortunately it crashed on returning to the main menu, then wouldn't restart after that.
Very amusing. I ended up as bacon, so clearly the electorate figured out that I was telling porkies.
I really enjoyed that. What a cute main character. I would have liked to have seen the butter shrink as it melted, but in general this plays very well.
The logic is a bit strange. If someone is a professional protester, and is getting paid to protest, then why are they protesting to get things that they can clearly afford. Surely buying your own laptop is easier than paying a bunch of protesters to do so.
I also felt that the progression was a bit steep.
Having said that, I can see where it is going, and it was an interesting idea.
At one point, while trying to stuff myself with donuts, I fell off the back of the train and fell into a deep blue void in which I could dance and look left and right while regretting my life choices. I like the graphics and I was chuffed to hear the train sounds.
That was an original idea. The whole presentation was very cohesive and it felt very polished. I think it just needs a bit of tuning with respect to difficulty as it was quite difficult to get the assignments done in class. Looks great though.
I really enjoyed the background animations, with the alien, the TARDIS and so on - they were great and made me smile. I also liked how the screen became darker as your oxygen levels depleted. As for gameplay, running back and forth seemed to be the best way to get the batteries, and I found it tricky to get to some of the higher platforms but that's most likely my poor skill level.
I was glad to see a different take on the theme - this was not what I expected, which was a good thing. I agree with @zelos's comment that it felt a bit like solving an equation, but there is definitely strategy involved in trying to do well.
Damn, those sharks are fast! The odds were rather stacked against the poor fish as I found it very difficult to keep him alive for any length of time. Then again, I suspect that was the whole point. Nice game.
Thought provoking! It is not common to find a meaningful game that's actually enjoyable to play (note enjoyable - fun would be the wrong word). I really liked the rewind-time mechanism, where you kept having to try again and again to get the information that you needed. It was a little frustrating sometimes, searching for the right word, but ... damn, this was powerful. This is a game that needs a wider audience and I hope that it finds it.
This was more than satisfying to play, and the fact that it gave me high scores didn't hurt either (self + 1, spouse + 1). I enjoyed this very much - it has that "one more go" feeling, and it would be interesting to see what would happen if you developed it further.
That was astonishingly close to life in my house. All those phones, all those tablets, all those electric toothbrushes. All the game needs now is a bag of old cables, chargers and adapers that you just can't quite bear to throw away on the off chance that you might actually visit France again and need to charge your Nokia 2110.
Now I can play for evaaaah! This was really nice to play, it had that retro feel and it had good controls. Also, the sound was bang on for the genre. Great stuff!
The microphone thing didn't work for me, but I loved the chatty people and all the comments that they made, particularly when I clicked on them and they went flying through the air. Nice little animations too.
For a first time entry, it is nice to see you were able to make a complete game. It could have allowed you to zoom out at the expense of using more power because it was difficult to get your bearings (but maybe that was the point).
The graphics, whilst being beautiful examples of pixel art, are very small and I had to take to jumping to figure out who I was. That being said, this is a fun game and it's quite a bit different. Nice job.
I really like the way that this looks. If you develop this further, perhaps throwing in a bit of Greek music and a some more variety, then you'd have a great little game that's ideal for mobile. As I write this, my wife is sitting behind me telling me that she'd probably play it on mobile as it's her kind of game.
The strangely beautiful graphics really enhanced the mood. I also like how your avatar slows down when they're swimming, and the lightning effects are great.
The CRT effect was pretty cool, particularly when Zeus strayed too close to the edges of the monitor. I enjoyed being a god - it was fun while it lasted.
I liked the quirky, hand-drawn graphics, and the death-screen comments were funny.
That [spoiler]! I always knew he was up to no good! This was a good entry: polished, good music, nice little pirate speeches, and a consistent graphical style. Very good.
That was a lot of fun, and very amusing. Everything works really well. I hope that you make this into a larger game, because I want to see all those commuters sitting on the train bellowing "platypus" into their phones.
My wife tells me that next time we go on a trip, she's going to give me directions using these commands. I'm not sure if I'll be able to tell the difference.
Great graphics and a catchy tune. It took me a while to figure out what was going on, but that's because at my office we have to get our own coffee. Having said that, they do deliver pastries.
It's probably my old-man reactions, but I found this to be quite difficult to control (keyboard). However, the concept is good and I liked the stylish graphics.
It was good to see a political game that was good natured. I loved the golf with Putin, particularly having to get into my golf cart to drive just a few feet between strokes. The music was spot on and added greatly to the mood. Also, Kinder Eggs. Says it all!
This is reminiscent of 1942. The music was great, and I liked the shadows beneath all of the main sprites. Your sense of humour is interesting: I wonder how well it would translate to North Korea!
This has a cute, cartoony style to it. I like your attention to detail. I think the right music would add greatly to the feel of the game.
Those were damn nice graphics. The sound effects, and the face on the little planet were excellent. I'm sure that this would do well as a mobile game, particularly if you introduce some variety and throw in a few collectables.
Well, everyone who has children *knows* that you cannot win this game. The cart was really difficult to control, but that added greatly to the overall humour of the game as unexpected things kept happening. For example, I don't think I ever smacked my daughter around the head with a box of quinoa before (and that's also the first and last time I wrote the word) so that was a first!
You chose a good way to interpret the theme. I was torn between knowing which power to lose between each level, which I guess was the whole point. Perhaps you could add a "difficult" mode in which the power that you lose is chosen randomly.
As a parent, I often find myself humming "There is a light that never goes out" so this game spoke to me. However, the protagonist was far too polite about how everyone kept wasting electricity. It was fun, but it was also a game that I play in real life far too often! "Why is the bathroom light on?" "Are you planning on coming back to this room this century?" "$!$£$%! lights! Do you think I'm _made_ of money?"
I liked the animation as the fireman's belly wobbled up and down when he ran. This game was funny, and a little bit different. I agree with @Ferminho's comments about the collision detection, but it was refreshing to see such an original idea.
I found it intriguing how the rules changed from level to level, although sometimes it took me a while to figure out what was going on. Soothing music!
Stylish graphics and a fun little game. I played for quite some time. Nice.
My wife was disappointed as she first read the title as Space Bear Picnic and had hoped to go down to the woods (that's _not_ a euphemism). The graphic style reminds me a little of [Deadly Rooms of Death](http://games4win.com/up/drod-architects-edition_1.jpg). Some fiendish level design there, but I feel it would have been better balanced if everything got just a little bit faster with time.
Ha, that was different! I enjoyed the concept of a geriatric owl living in a house attached to a hot air balloon. I'd have like it a little better if there was some indication of where the next piece of debris might come from, as it seemed a little arbitrary as to whether I got one or not.
The graphics and animation are beautifully done.
Too close to home! This is literally my life. (ok, what's the emoji code for Fap?)
This plays very smoothly, and the lighting effects are great. On my first run through, I didn't find any lamps and died quickly. On my second run through, I was so pleased to find several lamps in a row that I fell off a platform and lost a lot of progress. It's a shame that there's no music, but overall this was a good, solid effort.
Fantastic presentation and graphics. My arthritic finger hates me even more now.
The way that I played it was more GTA for ice cream vans, and the way that it handled - well, let's say that I just did a lot of donuts when I was supposed to be delivering ice cream! However, this is an excellent game and a lot of fun. Great visuals, and lots of personality.
I think this was more of a Turner Prize entry than a Ludum Dare one. It was very good at evoking feelings of mundanity and hopelessness. Also, it did shock appropriately near the end, contrasting greatly with the repetition of the earlier sections. It profoundly affected my wife: she says that this conveyed feeling very strongly and she feels quite shaken by the experience.
It was tricky to control, but quite amusing at the same time. I groaned with despair when I thought I'd dropped a cow into the energy thing only to have it walk off the side and fall back down to the ground. I tried playing it two player with Mrs Columbo, but she found it too hard to control (although perhaps I should have allowed her better access to the keyboard).
Ha - that was funny, particularly the "see ladies, aiming isn't easy" comment which occurred as my wife was busy playing the "pee" section of the game. I also liked that fact that you had to walk slowly when you got old - that was a nice touch.
Smashing into things was fun, and I like the minimalist graphics. The camera went underneath the world at one point, which made things a bit confusing.
I very much liked this, particularly the attention to detail. For example, having Harry talk to tell the player what to do was a great idea. There's definitely replay value in this... my wife remarked that I kept going back to it. There are too many modern platformers whose controls are floaty, or not pixel perfect. This one was old school and brought a smile to my face.
Man, my girlfriend is tearing up that mall. I hope that I'm not going to have to pay for all of that. I'm too old for this - I need to sit down! Why can't she just go shopping without me, or go online, or just leave me in a [pod](http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-news-from-elsewhere-40609115) where I can drink my latte and play games?
@nintendoeats you get it. I couldn't have put it better myself. My inspiration for the game was that my wife was having a really, really, really bad day and somehow that got translated into code. Fortunately for me, she likes the game (self - 1, spouse - 1).
Thanks @gris. Reigns was a big inspiration for this game. When my wife was having a bad day she basically said that some days no matter what you do, you're screwed (although she may have expressed this been a little less politely) so I decided to run with the idea and make a Reigns-like where you just can't win. For what it's worth, she likes the game and it made her laugh.
@orcdraco thanks. Yes, there are 3 lose conditions and a single win condition. Try watching tv.
@theaspiringhacker it's really a case of choosing the better option, or the one that's going to screw you up the least.
@pbg agreed! There are certain things about pico8 that make it perfect for LD:
1. it places massive limitations on what you can do 2. it's self-contained (although admittedly I use Notepad++ for editing) 3. publishing for the web is quick and simple
And, yes, everything is ok. Mrs Columbo (aka my wife) loves the game.
@peachtreeoath thanks. I think if there had been more time then the questions would have had effects like you suggested. It's funny: the more I reflect on this game, the more I find myself wondering if I should develop it further. It's very different from anything else that I ever did. I guess we'll all find out next week when we find out what people really think!
@peculiarcarrot Interesting that you say that, because most games end in killing the player - in mine you just get a cat.
@Freedom-is-slavery there is _one_ win condition.
Crikey, that was unexpectedly powerful. I nearly skipped over the game based on the screenshot but Mrs Columbo persuaded me to take another look and I'm glad that she did. One more thing... that ending was very good.
A well-executed, well-planned puzzler. The introductory level, spelling out how to play, was a good idea. I thought it was also clever how each individual room contributed towards a larger level. Nicely done.
I'm fairly sure that this is going to win for humour. I feel that the game started a little hard and could do with being a bit more fair and balanced.
The car noises were good, and you seemed to put batteries in good places. There were several times when I was almost out of power and I'd find one just in time, although eventually my luck ran out.
Very stylish!
A mini-map, or compass, or something to give you a hint about the locations of the satellites would have helped in all those times that I found myself drifting through space without fuel. However, I liked the art style, the voiceovers, and I thought that the ethereal procedural music fit the theme very well.
Well, this was a bit different. I particularly liked the simple, effective, monochrome art style, the sounds were appropriately menacing, and the core mechanic of the game was original. I would have like it to be a bit more obvious which light I was controlling at any one time, but all in all this was a fantastically original take on the theme that was well executed.
It would have been nice if the score persisted, because once you die you can't see it.
This has the beginnings of a good game, but it needs some balancing. For instance, the player's ship rotates too slowly to react to incoming missiles, and the shots are very slow. That being said, I think you'll get there because all of the elements are there.
That was an interesting idea. I liked being able to switch weapons, but at the same time this caused me issues as I probably spent more time looking for the perfect weapon than I did in actually shooting the enemies.
Shame there's no sound, but it's a neat idea.
I must admit that I found it quite hard to control, but I liked the look of it. The graphics had that "giant spaceship" feel that you used to get on old sci-fi book covers. The music was reminiscent of Peter Davidson era Doctor Who.
This looks great. I guess the moral of the story is that having too much money is bad for you. Damn shame about having no sounds, because the game is crying out for a chiptune.
I played to the last level. The difficulty progression was nicely tuned, although the controls were a little floaty.
Intriguing and ambitious. This could go somewhere as it has the makings of a solid game. It felt like the different people had different personalities, and I spent as much time trying to keep them happy as I did putting them to work.
The game feels a bit like Rimworld without people actually walking around, or perhaps a less abstract take on Hammurabi.
Nice. Btw, did you use ImGui?
I rather liked the educational element to it, particularly once I started ranking above amoeba. There might be some ribbing in the futuristic classroom based on what students end up becoming.
My wife tells me that having babies isn't so bad, but then...
- she only had one and said, "let some other fool get pregnant - we'll adopt next time" - that's not what she said when she was pregnant - I don't remember hundreds of babies being attached to her
This is a disturbingly accurate portrayal of life as a parent. Very surreal, very disturbing and quite insightful. It should be part of the National Curriculum so that people know what they're getting in to!
The graphics are nice and blocky, and I liked the size of the world. It was amusing to go around mugging people, but those cops are vicious. It's not every game that has a helicopter, and the way you put in the sound so that people know that it's coming was great.
Fun game. I like the way the car handled, particularly the rainbow boost. It seems that you've researched bad driving behaviour and Christmas parking etiquette quite thoroughly... those other drivers!
Much better then the text adventures of yore. I particularly liked the h-nts.
Damn! I've played a couple of puzzle-platforms in this Ludum Dare, but this one brings the most innovation. I thought the mechanic of piling up coins and using them to operate switches was inspired. Some fiendish levels there too.
The comments at the end of each level were funny too.
Very, very good!
The graphics were really good, including details such as shadows on the sea bed, and my wife, who normally gets motion sickness with 3d graphics, found this a joy to watch. I like how each time you replayed it, the prices adjusted, as well as the locations of the ports. The music fits the mood of the game.
I enjoyed the music, and there was definitely more than a little humour in your interpretation of the theme.
You may have a point. There are definitely some poor games on Steam, and it's getting harder and harder to find anything that's a) original, or b) not just some trendy idea that everyone jumps on for a couple of weeks until it is cloned 300 times.
At first I thought I was going to be playing Xevious or Star Force, but then I spotted the twist. Nice take on the theme. I thought everything was a little small (would have been nice to have a full screen option) but it all played very smoothly and the graphics were very good.
This was brilliantly done. I enjoyed making those who gave me substandard gifts angry by re-gifting it back to them immediately. Beautiful to look at, the music fit the theme, and even though it perfectly encapsulated Christmas's frustration for me, I still wanted to play on.
The sad thing, is that the gameplay in the game within the game, has better gameplay than a lot of games in the genre that I have played.
You managed to get the frustration of the popups and pointless achievements down perfectly.
Very funny, but think of the money you could have made had you offered a pay to stop popup.
The big boss seemed to disappear part way through (after I died and retried) so I couldn't complete my mission to turn him into salsa like the rest of his gang. That being said, this was really enjoyable. Yes, the text was a little difficult to read, but I thought that the music worked very well.
Very original idea. There are people in the web industry who could learn from this. My wife suggested having background modem noises.
It is a unique idea. My wife did get stuck in a plant she watered... not sure how that happened, but it could have been operator error. However it was nice to see a co-op game.
At first I thought it wasn't working as Chuck Norris didn't appear to get hurt by the enemy..... but then I realized, it's Chuck Norris, he isn't going to get the kind of flesh wounds mere mortals do.
What does it say about me that my goal was to get as many cars as possible and then watch the domino effect of the crashes? This game is simplicity itself in how it looks and what you have to do, but it's a lot of fun trying to find the best approach to prevent the crashes. It would be greatly enhanced with a few engine noises and, of course, screeching tyres as cars go into skids.
I thought that this was really well put together. The graphics and audio combined very nicely to set that melancholic mood. Good game.
This looks beautiful. Everything from the ripple effect on the water, to the clouds, the swooping birds, and the animations when you've got a fish hooked but don't reel it in right away works very well.
Some suggestions: - the sky could change with the time of day, so that you get a sunrise, sunset, stars, etc - gameplay elements, such as throwing back small fish, or defending your catch from the gulls, or competing against friends for the biggest catch
However, some of these suggestions might take away from the relaxing nature of the game.
A somewhat surreal take on the theme. I felt overwhelmed by cats (even one can be a handful) but managed to reach the ocean with what looked like a huge score. The reference to the balloon's structural integrity made me smile.
My wife LOVES this game and would like to have it on her phone. Please let me know if you ever make an android version as it would make her day.
Crikey, that was amusing. I like games with a narrator, and the music was... well, er, interesting! It was fun to see it through to the end. I was initially concerned that it wasn't really on theme, but then as the money started pouring in, it became obvious that it was.
It's a nice concept that needs a little balance. I am glad that I'm not a patron of this particular sushi restaurant as I seemed to spend a lot of time playing curling with my sushi rolls as they slid along the floor. Fun!
It took a while for the bodyguard to appear. I managed to outrun all of my fans until I decided to stop and find out what would happen when they caught me.
Getting kids in the face with snowballs is a surprisingly guilty pleasure. I think the difficulty needs to ramp up a bit more quickly, eg, by making the bat more obviously slower as it gets bigger, but overall it works really well.
This was an excellent idea. I found myself yelling "come by Jess!" at the screen more than once. Your game deserves more ratings so get out there and rate a few more.
Those wolves are vicious and not easily scared, but the level that really did it for me was "fenced in" as I just couldn't get the sheep to do what I wanted in time.
To quote a tune by Michael Nyman, "herding sheep is best left to shepherds".
Fantastic sprites and explosions! It Looks great, but I keep getting slaughtered very quickly because there isn't enough look ahead and my memory isn't all that great.
I liked the look of this very much, and the controls were spot on. The only thing that I found awkward was spotting the mouse cursor as it was a little on the small side. If you were to make a Torchlight style game with this look and feel then I would most definitely play it.
My laptop struggled with frame rate, so I'm going to try this later on my gaming PC (or, as my daughter calls it, her homework PC).
Every time I tried to dump toxic barrels (not a euphemism) those eco-warriors would try to shoot me. I must admit that I felt a little disconnected from what was going on, but I can see where you're going with it. With a few tweaks, and a bit more time, this idea could have sea legs.
Better then the live rats my bundle of joy brings in! I didn't expect to see Neko Atsume in a Ludum Dare, so this was impressive. As others have noted, it was a bit tricky to place items sometimes, and the pacing is a little slow, but the cats looks great (particularly when you get the gun).
This was a good take on the theme and a fun game. The progression was a little slow - I reached a point where I could pretty much balance out the negative blobs with the orange ones.
$10.5M. The voices were fantastic, and I enjoyed all of Kurt's one-liners. The fights were a little on the easy side, but that's good from my point of view as I got to finish the game without disappearing in a pool of my own blood.
Oddly fun.... I really wanted to get up those stairs for cake..... not in real life, that would be too much like hard work! I liked the mechanic of gaining and losing weight as I hadn't seen anything like that before, and you incorporated into the game rather deftly.
The graphics were charming and the music was a good fit, but I found the font very difficult to read. Switching to 1.5 line spacing might help. Interesting view of the theme - although I'm glad that my boss doesn't slap me around the head when I raise another ticket.
So happy to see this was a Jam game and not a compo as it is REALLY polished. Loved it when the pinata started to roll because he was too fat. The artwork is outstanding, the idea is outstanding, the game is a lot of fun and very replayable. Poor pinatas, no wonder they are an endangered species
The graphics are charming as well as the characters; however it does feel like it gets repetitive over time. Perhaps adding some goals to go for may help.
I liked the concept and the artwork. It was also nice to have a game that tells you how much progress you're making and is clear in what you have to do to win. Overall, good job.
I did wonder if the innkeeper was colluding with the bandit and was taking a cut of the coins. All seems like a scam to take money from an innocent adventurer. Ironically, my cat wouldn't get out of my lap while I was playing the game.
With a bit of balancing this could turn into a really nice game.
I really like the art style on the menus and text, but there was one piece of text that was so small that I couldn't read it.
I'm really surprised the RSPCA did not come to arrest me for my clear neglect of chickens. The graphics were very nice, it was a easy to use interface, and he music was simple and effective.
Two words. Litter tray! Although it was fun watching the old dears slip in the poop. What that says about me, I don't know.
Great art style, nicely presented.
A couple of observations: - When you link the two ships to the same position then it becomes a bit easier to play. - The frame rate gets a bit jumpy as the number of bullets increases.
It's a shame that you didn't have time to add sounds as that would have added to it greatly, but what you have so far is excellent.
And now for another go...
I found the sun level a lot easier than the moon one as I could still see the door after getting the correct number; however, maybe this is because my screen is set too dark to see the door on the moon level. An unexpected original take on the theme. I have never seen anything like it before.
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha. The more you have, the worse it is! Very good. I plan on using the art for a future LD game. :)
What a shame that the music for "Jaws" is under copyright as it would have worked well here. It would have been nice to be able to jettison treasure when you're too heavy ... or jettison passengers!
Punching isn't entirely successful, but it is very satisfying cleaning up all of the trash. The trash physics are great. I'm not entirely sure what makes me lighter when my trash-sucker isn't equipped but i'm still carrying it - took me a while to figure that out. The difficulty seemed to ramp up quite significantly, but then there's only so much you can do to balance a game in the time available.
Overall, innovative and satisfying.
Great retro look. The sprites have quite a lot of personality given how few pixels they are. I did encounter a bug though. When I switched to the bow I got this after shooting a goblin.

Just to confirm that the link now works...
That's a nice little game. It took a while to gain XP (as @thiagofr said) but apart from that, the game is well-executed. Good work.
This is a nice take on the theme. However, as I burn salad in real life, I had no chance in the game. My wife, however, was given a 10 from one of the judges.
I liked the way that the game looks and plays, and it's very ambitious in its scale. I would have liked to have played more, but unfortunately, fairly early on I got stuck with a game breaking bug where my man and his companion couldn't go viking any more because they just kept going to the right, very, very, very slowly.
I think the music is incredible and fits the environment of a medical ward. I like how the game play uses mental math, as it is a unique idea and makes a person feel like they are doing themselves good by playing the game. I have learned that I would make a horrible doctor based on my performance of the game
A gentler version of Papers Please in a land my wife would like to holiday in. The only thing missing for her was the margheritas. Seriously though, the graphics are fantastic and you managed to bring a lot of personality to those guinea pigs. I wasn't so sure what to do with the bank card though.
Pacing is a little off - the levels are probably about twice as long as they should be.
But otherwise, a fantastic game. Enjoyed!
Very solid. This felt really good to play. I enjoyed the blocky graphics, and the music fit the game very well. I could have done with a little more feedback to know if my shots had connected or not, but that's my only real criticism.
Incidentally, I must take a look at your source, as your comment about our Godot workflows being different intrigues me.
This is a perfect example of how the best games make you forget that you are only playing a game with simple circles and rectangles. The fact that you managed to imbue a few geometric shapes with such character, and to convey that feeling of fear and tension is mindblowing. I am sorely jealous of your creativity. Loved the sound, loved the look and the overall ... style ... that's the word I'm looking for.
Very impressive. And my wife is leaning over my shoulder telling me just how much this game is an exemplar of "mood", and how she is also jealous of the mind that could come up with something so effective.
Stealing balloons is a great idea. Thanks.
@misterstripey well, I was a child a long, long time ago, and when my wife saw what was causing the baby to move up then she declared that I was clearly still a child.
@Jegus9 good point on the random level generation. It's easy enough to do. However, I had originally planned to create at least 3 levels by hand but just ran out of time ... the mechanisms are in place to do it.But the first thing I would do if I had another 30 minutes would be to add the ability to disable the music!
@seannoonan to show on both halves of the screen, I just doubled-up the sprites and their collision geometry. I found an inelegant technique that worked well enough for the compo and ran with it. There were also a couple of hacks in there, such as hidden off-screen blocks.
There are better ways of doing it that don't need the hacks, but they didn't occur to me at the time.
What kind of battery cage living apartment does poor Noah live in? I really liked the graphics. A cute puzzler that teaches children about the food chain.
Well done for finishing a game in the time allotted. The graphics were crisp and clear. I am glad you found time to put in a volume control as the music was a little loud.
Very nice graphics. I liked the snowmen. The main character had a lot of personality.
Like @dunin says, it's reminiscent of "grow". Games like this are excellent for teaching people that clicking and dragging on a screen makes things happen.
I did not cheat.... unless you count allowing my wife to play as a stand in as cheating... so maybe it is more truthful to say she did not cheat and I watched her not cheat and can vouch for her.
She really really really really liked it. The graphics were cute, the logic was sound. It seemed like a full game, not a jam one, so congratulations to the entire team on making something so coherent.
For some reason, Steve reminds me of my cat. Always needy. Always wanting food. Always expressing disdain when not getting their way. And yet...
I like the graphical style of the game, and the relaxing music seemed to work well with it.
I don't see a download link on the itch.io page.
Capitalism may have won, but at the cost of my personal bankruptcy. I am not sure if I should reevaluate my life given that my friends only want me for what I buy for them. It was fairly intuitive to play. I think I may have been put off pizza for a bit.
Surprisingly more fun than I thought it would be. There's a knack to twisting from side to side trying to see ahead around the mountain of debris that you've picked up.
I played it a few times, particularly once I noticed my high score getting better each time, although I wasn't entirely certain what made my score go up.
A good entry, and I look forward to seeing your entries in future LDs.
It's a good start. I would have liked to have seen more progression. Nice to see a Pico 8 game.
The graphics have a lot of personality, but my reactions times aren't what they used to be (he says, peering over his glasses and wishing that they were bifocal). I find myself wanting to imitate the mole noises, but I am worried the other occupants of my household will mistake me for one and whack me in the head.
Cyclops rock! The graphics, and the entire presentation of the game is fantastic. I wasn't entirely sure what I was trying to optimise for, particularly when I reached level 3 and people kept leaving their desks for no obvious reason. Some help, at least describing the objectives, would have made it more enjoyable because I would have known if I was progressing towards my goal.
The dragons were great. My wife liked them so much that she kept spawning more and more as I was playing. This is an odd game in that it doesn't look like much, but it is surprisingly fun to play. I also liked the dragon sound effects.
I wonder if this happens a lot at Yo Sushi. I played a few times to see what would happen. One time the sushi machine just caught fire, but the appearance of the "surprise" was definitely unexpected and hilarious.
Good use of the theme. It would be amusing if you had a mode whee you just cower in fear at all of the tennis balls hurtling at you.

The mechanic is reminiscent of one of the phases in Plants vs Zombies, which is no bad thing. I thought the graphics were great and the descriptions were amusing.
Where am I finding the time to make all of these babies. I barely have enough time to give them the love they need.
The use of the different curses was a nice idea. I found the controls a bit tricky and some of the platform collisions were questionable. However, with a bit of polish this could be quite an intriguing and satisfying game.
Hilarious! I got my best score when I inadvertently downed one too many pints and then couldn't see a thing because everything went foggy, blurred and swirly. Then I started to play your game.
This is a very funny interpretation of the theme, but it works!
When you said "Things escalate!", you weren't kidding! I very much liked what you did with the theme and how it all escalated into that ending. Talk about unforeseen consequences.
The art style works very well in this game. It's amazing how frazzled the robot looked, zooming here, there and everywhere taking care of all of those babies.
It is an original take on the theme. The graphics are amusing and effective. Perhaps it can be used for training people at my local Aldi.
My only criticism is I think it would be fairer to the player for the first jumper to change letters before the second jumper came on so that you know what to expect. That being said, this is a very polished game (and my wife keeps telling me, "it's adorable" and "there aren't enough girl games" - although I do believe that boxers like skipping too, and I realise I'm digging myself into a hole because who says that there can't be girl boxers).
Surprised you could get that much of a story done in that short of a time. The game was similar to the text adventures with graphics before the age of point and click. Dark decisions!
Apparently I suck! I did encounter a possible glitch in that some of the tiles refused to go up - wondered if I was encountering key ghosting.
Interesting idea though - very different.
Loved the Wacky Races feel to the game. Destroying your own car has never been so much fun. Would be great if there were other racers, or detours that I could have taken. I spent a glorious few minutes imagining that I was Dick Dastardly with Muttley in the boot behind me.
