LD38 — A Small World

Petty Puny Planet 38 by JorgeGameDev 2017-05-06T17:24:20Z

Great work! All positives here, only one negative: if you are in a hurry or read fast, it would be nice to have a skip for text and "100 years laters" notifications. But this is nitpicking. The game is creative, charming and a top contender for the best in LD38.

Tiny Worlds in Flasks by FiSilva 2017-05-06T17:12:47Z

Great amazing toy. I wish we had thought about this aesthetics for our game (which ended up with none lol). Put some creatures into it, just for the lulz, and you have a product in your hands. Congrats!

Top graphics, mood and theme contender right here.

Little House of Horrors by Archimagus 2017-05-06T21:14:56Z

Great ambience and great concept. This is quite unique, imo. I'd think about making the enemies or the setting even more cryptic, to exploit player's imagination even more.

Congrats and thanks for presenting this. It is a really cool game with a lot of heart in it.

Dots In Space... by davision 2017-05-06T17:44:35Z

1. I don't know if there is an instruction for it ingame, but I only saw the setup screen when accidently pressed esc to exit the game.

It is way too much awesome to be hidden. I was already liking your game before it, but when I saw it, okay, I gotta say: this is by far the best "game idea" I have seen in this Ludum Dare, light years ahead of anything else.

Surely there are other amazing games, but they are mostly funny concepts and ideas that wouldn't hold up well in an actual game. This over here is exactly on the other side.

-

On the negative side, the UI got severely clustered on the "configs/randomize" screen, with overlapping text.

-

I can't tell you enough how much I enjoyed your game. Truly amazing concept and execution. 10/10.

PS: This review is about the version 2. The scores will be for the version 1 and almost the same.

Dots In Space... by davision 2017-05-06T17:52:48Z

Oh, and I don't know exactly why and if this is the correct reprodution, but it seems like if I shoot twice behind me (aiming rear), my two bullets can collide/explode and throw my "circular body" mesh far away from my turret. The game keeps going on though.

Evolve by Rudra Nil Basu 2017-05-06T16:24:22Z

Overall, what comes on top is the top notch presentation for the polished parts (which are many)...

---

The game start effect is awesome. The overarching glow effect of the characters with the outer circle was amazing as well. The particles are not the usual "starts big, gets small" and it was very cooler this way. - The death screen after a blue orb gets you is obviously not on par with the rest of the game, but it's a jam, I know. The player death explosion was not on par too. - Nonetheless, still a top notch amazing presentation. I really loved it and will keep it for reference, since I'm doing a neon shooter as well.

---

The game: Starts slowly, but has a nice balance on the subsequent levels. The movement is fluid and has great speed. I would like a faster pace. Very faster, to be honest, but that's me. - In the end, this is something I really would play. Reminds me of the super cool Ellipsis. Congrats a lot. http://store.steampowered.com/app/514620/Ellipsis/

EVO by shide 2017-05-06T17:18:33Z

Really great sim. The presentation is top. The goals help to guide the gameplay. Very solid entry.

Dinos Stole My Hyperdrive! by Jeremy 2017-05-06T22:18:28Z

I agree with Mega Munch in all of his points. I also didn't understand what the robot wants me to do it the "e" key.

Anyway, this was veeery cool to play. Lots of nice effects. Thanks for sharing it.

Divine Marbles by pankamil 2017-05-06T21:24:13Z

Found it on itch.io and enjoyed it a lot. Only thing I'd like is to have more power/initial speed on the planet spawn.

Congrats, very good entry.

Divine Marbles by pankamil 2017-05-06T21:25:26Z

You also were honest and let the proper jam version accessible, so I'm giving you extra stars for this. :P Thanks.

Roguelike One by Chris Otey 2017-05-11T07:48:22Z

Rock solid presentation. Congrats!

Roguelike One by Chris Otey 2017-05-11T07:48:57Z

"It would also be nice if the direction your ship pointed wasn’t locked to the direction you were moving and if your ship carried more momentum and could slide and drift."

Agreed with this.

Roguelike One by Chris Otey 2017-05-11T07:49:21Z

This or a strafe button. =)

The Life Amoebic by Baby Dino Herd 2017-05-10T23:48:57Z

Great sound and atmosphere. I would like it to be faster, but it is quite a relaxing game. It all fits together very well. Congrats.

The Epic Quest For The Mighty Croissant by 0x0 2017-04-30T15:56:06Z

Do you have any link to the actual jam release or just to the postjam?

Tiny Planet, Big Universe by Daveybb 2017-05-06T21:59:02Z

Polished, working from start to end, this is the kind of thing that I like to see in Ludum Dare games. I'm a fan of jam shmups, so I may not be the best to judge, but I really liked this one. Thanks.

Last day of the woods by Redblack Spade 2017-05-11T07:44:19Z

Is this the jam version, strictly done in 72 hours? If so, just wow!

Monolith by samlo 2017-05-06T17:07:17Z

Great asthetics and feel to the game. It is really fast paced. Only one negative, imo: it is very hard to see where the enemy bullets are heading. But I really liked it. Congrats a lot!

Invasion by mmKALLL 2017-05-11T07:11:08Z

Positives:

1. Nice concept. Simple to grasp.

2. The minimalist controls and design makes for a nice contender for a mobile game.

3. I simply love how the fire rate turned my plays into some kind of rythim game, since I had to time my aiming when holding the mouse button.

4. BTW, great interface choice with the option of holding the button. It would be VERY annoying to click for every shot.

---

Negatives:

1. I agree a health bar is missed.

2. I have no idea if there is any use for the damage upgrade.

3. Some stats would be nice too (how much damage/fire rate/health is the upgrade giving me?).

---

Congrats and welcome. ;)

Planetone by shillingburg 2017-05-06T18:07:22Z

Nice tool! Very nice sounds, good to the ears. Tried to glitch it with overlapping objects, crowding the world, couldn't do it. So good job. =)

Only thing I missed was a faster way to rotate the world.

Congrats a lot for your very solid entry!

Universal Journey by mundell 2017-04-25T04:20:56Z

Amazing! May I ask how did you foresee the planetary (player's) course? Congrats, very polished effects.

Small World by JimmyBG 2017-05-06T16:37:01Z

Very beautiful and terrific atmosphere. I didn't like the jump speeds at all, but everything else was simply amazing. Congrats!

Duel by Anuke 2017-05-06T22:07:06Z

Awesome lightning paced game. This is something I'd like to see more. Very competent execution.

I'd like to see how it would be with sound. Also it was very hard to identify bullets and trajectories and even if you were being hit or not.

Nonetheless, amazing game with an amazing feel.

Duel by Anuke 2017-05-06T22:09:00Z

PS: Which engine/framework did you use?

Yet Another Godzilla Game by dcandle 2017-05-06T16:58:00Z

Enjoyed the effects and the main char a lot. The beam was very very cool. I'd like it faster and harder (imminent whatshesaid ahead). Amazing entry.

LD39 — Running out of Power

Power Bunnies by pcmaster 2017-08-05T16:41:26Z

So much love! hehe

The moment where they start to breed like... bunnies... is nice and unexpected. Amazing entry.

One touch, maybe difficult to add, would be to allow the player to push a row of bunnies if you hit it, because, as noted in the screenshot above, it is really easy to get stuck. But maybe it would break some of your logic, only you know...

Great art and juice. Very nice game, specially with such short sprints. Congrats!

I'm Fine by Rodrigo Spilimbergo 2017-08-01T02:53:19Z

Excellent concept and design. Even the floaty controls add to the "contemplative" experience. Very very good entry!

PS: "Freedom" on the other side of your fears... "You should stop" right when the player accelerates... These moments were great, in a "narrative meets mechanics" way. If you change the game, put more like these. ^^

Modern Ninja by Lukesta 2017-08-05T16:33:33Z

Amazing game. I really liked it.

One thing I would like is a rechargeable power. I missed my night vision a lot when it ended...

Nice level design as well. Congratulations!

LD39:Running out of energy by johnnwfs 2017-08-05T15:10:03Z

That's a great game for the compo. I liked the concept and the rng spawn mechanic makes you think about where to position against the CPU, to have better chances than the machine on the next wave.

Oh, one thing, to shake things up: the game could have increasing speed, which would lead to increased difficulty.

There's not much negative to say about the game. It was really competent and working from start to end.

Powering Down by jwin 2017-08-07T23:43:17Z

Great game! I didn't like the aspect of tuning the ship, since I prefer action on small games. Everything else: absolutely awesome! I'll keep an eye on your games. Congratulations!

PowerCubeStationBoxâ„¢ by NueboMundo 2017-08-13T18:44:53Z

One negative: It is tough to get to actually "play" the minigame. It is also hard to realize what each part of the machine does.

Apart from that: On innovation, theme and mood, this is by far the best I've seen the entire LD. Very well thought, very well made. Congratulations!

Nex Machinan by MestreRothLD 2017-08-01T16:16:02Z

Hi, Rodrigo. Thanks a lot for the feedback.

You brought up some good points here. There are some extra mechanics planned from the start which really connect to your ideas for the game, but I had no time to design these properly (how to communicate it to the player, fine tune the balance etc). Some of these (a energy consuming attack and power-ups) are high priority for the post jam, so "stay tuned"! haha

Thanks again. Cya!

Nex Machinan by MestreRothLD 2017-08-04T16:49:04Z

Hi, Aurel. Thanks for the feedback and the gameplay video. I was watching it live, but the connection failed midtime.

I agree powerups will be a big boost to the fun. I'm currently planning it for the post jam, but it is really a no brainer. About your question "what happens next?", my idea was to make the game infinite, but not relying on procedural generation (which would mess the highscores). So, what you were playing is the easiest mode. Once you play through all the levels, you come back to the first level, enemies are harder, the whole game is faster and you make more points. =P "The real Nex Machinan starts here"...

About the red aura, the red enemy makes other enemies angrier aka faster.

Oh, and the "stay near enemies" tactics is risk-rewardy, but you can't really beat the game that way without a lot of skill. I tuned the enemy damage towards it. ;)

Thanks again for the feedback and even again for providing the link directly here.

Nex Machinan by MestreRothLD 2017-08-05T14:47:36Z

Thanks a lot for the feedback, critics and compliments.

@cornelia-xaos The leaderboards are simple http requests to a mySQL server. I can try building it to mac/Linux, but I wouldn't be able to properly test it right now, so I'll need to use some friends before I post these versions. Which one do you need the most?

.

@johnnwfs I appreciate the feedback.

The game was tuned to be between medium and hard, so I get your point. For the next version, I will probably implement some upgrades, which will make it a little bit easier in the beginning.

.

@mamoniem Thanks for posting.

I'm very glad you liked the game. As any jammer know, we drive ourselves nearly crazy to do a good jam game. I will make a post jam version, so if there's anything you'd like to see, feel free to ask. Thanks again!

.

@jason200101 Thanks a lot for your insights. I didn't think about different difficulties, since it would require proper tuning in the jam (impossible to do as a single person team), but I gotta be honest... What always worries me is doing the UI. :D

But it is a really great idea. I'm thinking about not making different difficulties, but allowing these stats to be changed via upgrades. Either way, I will take it into careful consideration.

And thanks for the compliments. It might not seem so, but it actually means a lot, since the end goal is always to make the players satisfied.

.

Now, time to rate all your games. =)

Nex Machinan by MestreRothLD 2017-08-05T21:15:50Z

Thanks, kpded. I will remember this (need for instructions) for the post jam and the next projects. Everyone I saw playing realized it after a few tries, but nobody on the first try. Fair point.

About the difficulty, I didn't want the game to be easy, but a little tuning can always be done. Thanks again for the feedback.

Nex Machinan by MestreRothLD 2017-08-07T00:14:34Z

Thanks a ton for your comment, pcmaster. I'm really really happy that you enjoyed the game. If you wish to have any other thing added to the game, feel free to ask.

I am not changing the music, so the sfx will be indeed much clearer.

Thanks again and good luck with your crazy games.

Nex Machinan by MestreRothLD 2017-08-07T13:33:11Z

@sebastian-m

I really appreciate your compliment. Even knowing that comments here are usually very lenient, I can't avoid feeling happy that someone had a little moment of joy playing the game. =P I will definitely add these features in the next version.

@wabble

Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking about changing some effects. Well... I'll think twice.

@jwin

That was exactly the intention from the start. A small arcade game. =P

You described exactly what I had in mind for the "gotta get near the enemies" to survive. Guess you got the game. :D

I'll check these aiming issues as well. I never noticed it, so thanks a lot for pointing it out. xoxo

@frankiesmileshow

3754 is a pretty cool score, as the highest one is still around 5500 (which btw I never managed to reach).

"One of the best games of this LD I played so far!" Thanks a ton! Really!

"Lack of feedback for when you take damage": I agree. I didn't manage to find a good sound for it and ran out of time in the end. I'll make this higher on the priority list.

@elgregos

I thought about this mechanic, but for a different, powerful attack. As I did it by myself, I lacked a designer to flesh out the details/balance of this feature, so in a "Masterchef" way, I decided not to serve an incomplete mechanic. But idk, I'm seriously thinking about a different mode closer to this, maybe even a "Superhot" mode. It wouldn't be too hard to implement.

About the keyboard, you blew my mind here. Thanks a lot, for I have never thought about this. Lame me. From now on, I'll always enable arrow commands and make it clear in the instructions.

@tmpxyz

Thanks for the feedback. This is something on the to-do list right now, give player that juicy oomph...

@sbeif

I appreciate the feedback and am happy you enjoyed it. This is always the end goal. Thanks a lot.

-

Now, to play and comment on all your games.

This week I'll release the postjam with a ton of changes.

Nex Machinan by MestreRothLD 2017-08-09T14:08:49Z

Thanks a lot. I love that kind of art style. You definitely should try Nex Machina from Housemarque then. Excellent game, which, midway, ended up serving as inspiration here! :)

PS: Thinking about inspiration, I wish my game had your Virulence's evolution system :D

Nex Machinan by MestreRothLD 2017-08-09T20:27:59Z

@indiemaniac

Player damage feedback is high on the priority list for the next version I'm working on.

Different patterns and imovables are there too, just not so high. A shooting tower is on the way to the game.

Unfair swarming: that is by design. Some spawns were really meant to drive you to some point and screw you if you went there. But people are doing well against it, tbh, so that's not something I intend to change. Maybe the incoming difficulty settings will help with it.

@avon

Difficulty curve: I agree it is steep, but by myself I had no time to design good easy levels for the beginning, so it is mostly one, two easy levels, then it already starts to get crazy. I'll take this into consideration.

Power cost to actions: This was planned and I still intend to do this as another game mode. I didn't put it into the game because I had no time to properly design the ways to clearly communicate these mechanics to the player. So I went with a smaller scope.

About just holding down the button: that's actually the idea... But "easy" is relative, as there is the leaderboard... "Easy" to beat a few leves? Surely, without any effort. "Easy" to reach a high position on the leaderboards? That's a different story...

About the sound, I made the shooting sound as low as possible. I'll consider adding a setting to change this value even more.

-----

Thanks a lot for the valuable feedback.

Nex Machinan by MestreRothLD 2017-08-10T14:37:06Z

@edwingamedev

Well, thank YOU for playing and leaving your feedback.

I hope you don't mind if I blatantly copy your shooting pattern for one of the powerups I'm implementing into the next version of this game. =P I really liked the spread and how it can be used strategically. :D

Nex Machinan by MestreRothLD 2017-08-13T18:45:36Z

So... we have a winner!

Or do we? One week to go. :D

Amazing score, @nuebomundo!

"as well as the fact that I always die before the power bar is depleted (a little remains, so it’s a little deceptive)" - Good eye. I noticed it only after dozens of plays. It happens when you die by enemy contact. Derp me, the UI stops updating once GameOver became true... But don't feel cheated. If I'm correct, it only happens if you took damage that would kill you. Thanks for reminding me, will fix it asap.

About the colors: I have a friend that rules on visual design and will check the game this week to give his insight. I will tell him about this idea. You know, let it for the pros...

Thanks a ton for the feedback. Good luck with your crazy game.

Nex Machinan by MestreRothLD 2017-08-16T04:31:15Z

@crown-games

Well, it seems power is never enough... Yes, you did get power, but your supply is always depleting, so you have to keep getting more and more.

Thanks for the feedback and for playing. Good luck with your game. o/

Disaster On Nebula One by RAC-Games 2017-08-04T18:40:46Z

There are many things I love in this game. The colors, the animations, hovering, the background (very good!), the little challenges in level design to reach certain areas.

There is one thing I don't get: the objective. Maybe this is the answer to your question "Didn't anyone finish the game?".

There is one thing I absolutely hate and actually prevents me from playing further: the camera.

Overall, it is a great effort that give birth to a very nice game. Removing the camera problem, there is actually very little to complain, imo. Congrats a lot!

Candy Wars by Jason200101 2017-08-05T02:02:59Z

I dislike story games, but love funny ones, so I'll definitely keep an eye on your next games. The art style is insane and polishing it a little more, beautiful things will be born. Congrats. It is very very tough to make this kind of game during a ludum dare. Well, every game is hard in a game jam, but story games with branching are always calling for bugs. Good luck!

Plugzzz by mamoniem 2017-08-05T15:51:41Z

Downloaded the fix version. i7, Geforce 1GB, 8GB Ram, and the performance was unplayable, surely below 5 FPS, often below 1 FPS. I have no idea why.

That said, I liked the art and mood; in the few seconds I could play the game, I enjoyed it. There is something satisfying in their glowing eyes and the crazy waving "arms". I'll check back later to see if there is another version. If you are busy and won't do it, no problem too.

Overall, despite the performance issue, I enjoyed what I saw. Complete, creative and funny. With a few more rules (and performance optimization hehe) it could become a nice small app.

Berzerk Hunt by TheFunAttic 2017-08-03T14:17:05Z

Amazing art style. The blood seemed a little off, but overall, the animation and drawing fits very well together. The different attacks serve to mix things up a little. I enjoyed this submission, it really feels complete. Congratulations!

Long Live The Pig by CTTFOW 2017-08-07T02:20:28Z

Amazing entry. Besides the UI improvements already mentioned, I have nothing to complain about the game. Very nice promises you put there. I'm interested in knowing which ones you didn't put into the game...

Congrats and good luck!

Goo-Boy and the Maw of Darkness by Pandanym 2017-08-02T18:21:42Z

Loved the aesthethics and sound design. That easter egg, in the beginning... Very cool. I wonder how many people found it... On purpose. ^^

Sparkman Adventures by Lamm 2017-08-05T16:50:01Z

Amazing art. It only needs some effect when the enemies or players are killed, or the shoot.

I love tight controls and yours are floaty, but, for some reason, I didn't mind it. Maybe because it added an acceleration vibe to the movement.

The level design was nice. It didn't repeat too much and, since your system is working, you can easily add more levels, different enemies.

Overall, what I liked the most was the art. The animation was very fluid and the main char was charismatic.

Congratulations!

Ted Crashed! by Sebastian-M 2017-08-07T14:05:20Z

Hi. Thanks for your comment on my Nex Machinan game. I came here to see your game and really really liked it. I have a lot to talk about it.

- This is a 5 star game. Usually only once in a LD I see a game that I believe to have potential to become a product. Not a blockbuster, obviously, but a little and enjoyable game. In the LD39, it is yours. With more mechanics and depth, the procedural generation takes care of the rest.

- UI: The buttons "play" and "play again" seem to have bad positioned colliders or something wrong with their logic. When I click over them, nothing happens. I needed to move the mouse away to use it.

Also, the ingame pop up "you received X materials" in the upper part of the screen had some of it out of the screen.

I played the web version.

- UX: I noticed a lot of people (and I agreed with them at first) saying "e didn't work", because we all think that you could havest power crystals. Your game have unusual mechanics, so it NEEDS directions/ingame instructions. I feel like your score will be harmed by this, because, lets be honest, we will only read the written instructions here if we are really interested in the game.

- Music: Perfect, fits together and adds to the atmosphere. Sound: Ok. A little too arcade-y imo. Art: Awesome. I love low poly. I missed having shadows, at least in the lovely main char, but no big deal.

- Gameplay: Amazing. The spawn transition for the new hexagons add a lot to the sense of discovery, which plays a huge part in why I liked this game so much.

I would love to be able to get more time in the countdown in some way, but that's on you.

- Overall: Top concept, near perfect implementation. Congratulations for such a nice game in so little time. And for recognizing the efforts of the people around you. This recognition might mean a lot to them.

ElectriClick by Cornelia Xaos 2017-08-05T15:00:58Z

1. I liked the game. I don't know why exactly, maybe the immediate responsiveness of upgrades and powering stations... But it is a very nice concept. This is something that with some tuning would work for an idle game project.

2. I have no idea about how to get reputation. More than once, I just couldn't help but watching it slowling falling...

3. Great entry. Congrats. I must have been tough to adjust the UI, set the parameters to achieve a playable state etc.

A Mr Mom Quest by JoshBurleson 2017-08-09T21:22:35Z

Fun, funny, creative, you hit the moon with this one. Excellent game, perfect for a game jam. Congratulations!

PS: You probably already know it, but leaderboards are not working on the HTML5 version (Chrome). Maybe your PHP script has to allow cross domain requests, I'm not sure.

Lost Soul by daviddiagonza 2017-08-05T02:17:34Z

Very nice mood. The colors and lighting choices were on spot! The sound in the end was funny and eerie. The concept was also very interesting.

One thing needs to be done is a better instruction on the beginning, as you can see in the comments about. Also the collisions with the trees felt a little off quite often. Maybe putting the collision just on the tree part near to the ground would help.

That being said, very nice game. The concept and the vibe tie together very well. Congrats.

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Some Seriously Screwed Sheep by PixelFormedStudios 2017-12-09T21:36:03Z

This must be one of the best games I played on this LD. The graphics are really amazing.

What I'd like to see different: - The "winter" screen is too bright! It got immediatelly annoying. - An endless mode, with increasing difficulty, a la Don't Starve? - Leaderboards. - I didn't really understand the theme use, apart from the mutating sheep mechanic.

Congrats, a lot! It is a really great entry and you'll probably get a very high position with it.

Clones by TechnoNugget 2017-12-06T15:18:50Z

Amazing game! Similar concept to ours, Does Not Commute (big mobile game) and Running With Scissors. Very fun, fair and with a great progression on challenge. Congrats!

Tourist Chaos by MestreRothLD 2017-12-09T21:43:28Z

Thanks everyone for the valuable feedback. We are taking notes and deeply consdering every single word here, as we really intend to release it (for free/fun/experience, not for profit) on mobile platforms. Thanks again and I'll return the feedback on your games as soon as possible (probably tomorrow).

Tourist Chaos by MestreRothLD 2017-12-09T21:52:28Z

@szeki - your score was actually better than mine. But then... Colisan already reached 60 THOUSAND POINTS! We should have used analytics in the game to copy his strategy...

@dragonfyzex - that's a good strategy if you time the cars correctly. That is until the first one collides. =) Oh, and it is not clear outside the "how to play", but you can get lots of extra points passing by monuments. The postjam version will have more juice around it and the scores will be way higher then. I think...

@thiagofr - I'm not sure about what happened, but the game is not supposed to have a 16 bit aesthetic. Maybe you used lot resolution/quality settings? Thanks a lot for the feedback.

@technonugget - the UI is already receiving an overhaul for the postjam version. Thanks a lot for the feedback and congrats for your score - way above my average... :(

@brendan-milos - we didn't have a proper name for those "coin-like" jumping circle. Thanks for providing a decent name for the objects hereinafter called as pellets!

@miguel-montero - I bet you are still better than me. haha

@joror - thanks for the feedback. The game has the (kind of hidden) ability of dragging cars back, but we will talk about your ideas and others regarding the possibility of changing routes. The grip with it is that players could abuse it to make big riskless looping routes, but let's see what we come with. The first big change will probably be non persistent fires.

Tourist Chaos by MestreRothLD 2017-12-09T22:02:37Z

@tulipekoni - good job to you as well. :D

@pecolyte - thanks for the feedback. We will discuss making some starting strategies more achievable at first glance.

@peach-pie-productions - thanks a lot! Yes, that was exactly our idea. The timing is there to mess the clever part of your brain.

@blinkeye - thanks, blinkeye. Our 2D artist is always on spot!

@aviland - work called on the last day, so we couldn't implement a proper tutorial or progressive difficulty, so strategies now are mostly discovered on the 3, 4 iterations most players are doing through the game. But we plan to improve on it. Thanks for the feedback and suggestion.

@draklaw - glad you enjoyed it. Thanks.

@clemzd - tomorrow I'll update the main post with the full credits. Yes, these music artists are great and most of the sounds are CC or cheap royalty-free. We are actually talking about both publishing it and implementing way more levels. Thanks for the great feedback.

@the-triumvirate - thanks a lot for the feedback and insight on the explosion sound. We will take it deeply into consideration.

To every dev commenting, thanks again for the feedback. We will play your games too and return the favor. Good luck everyone!

Tourist Chaos by MestreRothLD 2017-12-09T22:04:55Z

@zambini - Yes, I love that sound too. haha It turns "uselessly making big routes" into something actually important to our lives. :D Thanks a lot, sir!

(Edit: This comment referred another game. My mistake, sorry.)

Horny Bunny by Thomas FUentes 2017-12-10T04:49:13Z

Ops, reviewed the wrong game. Sorry. Tomorrow I'll try to play yours and post proper feedback.

(The other game also has cute bunnies procreating like crazy too, I just have no idea about its name now...)

Horny Bunny by Thomas FUentes 2017-12-11T03:35:30Z

Okay, now I can rate it properly.

- Fun: Right amount of challenge. The controls were not very good, IMO. I'd prefer a GetKey instead of GetKeyDown for jump. Also KeyCode.W. :D Or if the jump key is pressed a little before you reach the ground, you still should jump. Otherwise it is a little frustrating trying to jump as you reach the ground. The level design was VERY nice, and never felt repetitive to me. - Innovation and theme: On spot! Very creative take on the theme. - Graphics: The art is very cute and... lewd? Very clean graphics, except for the parts where it actually had to be bizarre. Missed a proper jump animation and loved the background. - Humor: Soft jokes, well placed, nothing forced. Very good tone. - Mood: Great use of colors and art. - Overall: Very good and funny game. Fully functional, fully featured. Congrats!

Santas Unwanted Helper: Reindeer Revolution by ponker 2017-12-10T21:40:32Z

Nice touch with the leaderboards. The game is also very well made and on theme.

Just one thing to note: the colliders make much more sense if you put them on the foot of objects, so your feet don't collide with the horns of elks etc.

Congrats for it, it is actually very good and your idea about weekly leaderboards is very cool too.

Virus Detected by NotSpaghettiGames 2017-12-29T02:54:02Z

Nice game you have here. SUPER WELL DONE!

Sugarplum Summit by Michael Clavell 2017-12-10T20:20:11Z

I like shmups, I love doing shmups and I liked this one a lot.

Nice interpretation of the theme, despite being **completely** hidden of everyone who didn't play the game until the end. For this reason, maybe you'll receive bad ratings on this category, but the idea is still nice and quite creative, turning risk-reward into reward-risk.

For the gameplay, I like how smooth everything is/feels. Very well done.

You could also try putting a V shaped trail renderer on the shots/enemies. It helps with the smoothy feel.

I'd like a bit of screenshake, but no big deal. Also, the small brown shots are VERY small.

Finally, the laser boss attack wasn't shown in advance, so my death to him felt very cheap, since I couldn't possibly know an attack would happen that way.

But all in all, it is a great entry, deserving high ratings. Very solid atmosphere/mood/gameplay. Congrats.

PS: 2D art - Simply lovely! Very clean and beautiful. Congrats here too!

Running With Scissors by Daze 2017-12-06T15:09:44Z

Amazing game, very well put together. Art is great for the concept. Did you take inspiration from Does Not Commute? BTW, our concept is similar too, just more chaotic. ^^

Cute Army Conquest by MestreRothLD 2018-12-06T12:17:04Z

Lots of valuable feedback here...

@trifectuh - Thanks, we put a lot of work into polish and making things clear. More levels and "classes" are coming soon. :D

@dubthink, @ravarion, @lucecyl - A lot of love went into polishment and making things as clear as possible. And well deserved kudos to the artist @Lucas-Carvalho. Thanks a lot for the feedback.

@muzzz29 - Your score of 3437 held the #1 for quite a good time. It has been beaten by... 28 points. haha Did you have to sacrifice those extra 3 cuties? Thanks a ton for the feedback!

@icehottet - Games like Mushroom Wars were references in the concept phase, but in our game, troops behave individually and interact with each other. It's a big deal in my opinion, but we will surely look at MW for reference and comparison. Thanks for the feedback.

@a333, @subtlydramatic, @rodrigo-grego - Glad you enjoyed the cute vibe. That's exactly what we were aiming at. :D Thanks a lot!

@owen-rees - Expect a few more mechanics to come very soon with additional levels. Thanks for playing and giving us feedback.

@svntax - Thanks, Svntax! Beating the game is not that hard once you identify some gaps. But you have to be able to identify it and perfect it if you're going to the leaderboards' top (as you did). I'm curious about this strategy, if you're willing to share it. Thanks again!

@sodaraptor - Thanks! If we ever release it at mobile, I'll surely send you a message. We're currently looking into adding more levels and a couple more troops.

@blobo - Thanks for the compliments. Nice nick, btw. :D

-----

Thanks a lot for all the great feedback. We put a lot of love and effort into it, and it's definitely heart warming to see you enjoying the game.

We are very open to your suggestions, critics and feedback.

So, for now... More levels, more troops... Got it! Expect it to happen soon in the post jam.

If anything else bothers you or you'd like to see added into Cute Army Conquest, please feel free to comment about it. We already have some plans but your nice ideas are always very welcome.

Many many thanks again!

Save The Ginions by ytaha 2018-12-11T18:17:44Z

Great game! The balance of experimentation vs discovery really helps to keep the player on. The "what happens if I put this there" shines on the game. The art is great, all very coherent and interesting. About the art, some textures were missing, maybe? I had pink blinks on the creatures that didn't seem to match the game's visuals. There's a solid design work there and a very good entry! Congrats!

Chopping Block by speakertone 2018-12-05T17:39:36Z

Great great game! One thing I think would be great for players is a list with the rules, somewhere on the screen. Maybe make so the player needs to press a button with the mouse to see the list, if you think memory is important.

Really great entry! Very clever puzzles. Congratulations!

Chopping Block by speakertone 2018-12-05T17:44:38Z

After playing a bit more, until the last level, gotta say... You have a great mind/team for game/level design. It really seems like you lead us to some design intended mistakes. The balance is perfect for my taste as well. Awesome and congrats again!

Chopping Block by speakertone 2019-01-02T00:49:37Z

Came beck to check and expected higher ratings for your game. I loved the design and rules. Well, to each his own. I still love this game and will keep an eye on your other works. =] Best of luck to you!

Altruist Project by syverlauritz 2018-12-12T13:35:10Z

Great atmosphere (graphics and sound), great art style and well polished! The idea is **perfect** for the theme. I would certainly play it if you would fully develop it.

In its current stage, it has the appeal of curiosity and those sadistic games (like Mutilate a Doll, for instance), but IMO it would be an amazing game (with a shot at being a hit) if it was presented more like a **puzzle**. Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes may be a good reference of puzzles with dynamic solutions. It's a design thing to be solved and asked around, but it surely can be done.

In the end, really great game. If you ever develop it further, I'll certainly keep an eye on it.

Congratulations, great entry, excellent start!

Succccessss by domkonecny 2018-12-05T18:21:33Z

And it comes to if you would sacrifice your sacrifices. Then everything else can reach its true potential, apart from everything that was sacrificed. Or not?

Crazy game.

Very interesting concept, perfectly fitting the theme! Congratulations for the implementation of such a bizarre concept!

Burn-Out by Tom Kurcz 2018-12-05T18:42:01Z

That was amazing. Everyone here spent the weekend doing the Ludum Dare, so it will surely touch some nerves. Presentation and atmosphere was 10/10.

PS: Please post a link to your other works.

Burn-Out by Tom Kurcz 2018-12-10T20:19:14Z

After playing lots of other games, came back to say this is the best one I've played this Ludum Dare. Actually made me think about one or other stuff (more than once through the days), in a way few games did. You're amazing. Congrats again.

@zazios @grizwhirl @floriancohen @thecoconutdream @zabrat: Thanks a lot for the feedback. Our artist @marcherin is something special. :)

@0x0961h: Thanks for the comment. Yeah, we aimed for simple, accessible and cozy. And, as @nno1 noticed (glad you found out by yourself!), __observing__ is a big thing for photographers, so it was actually present in the first pillar of our concept. :)

Photo Tamer by MestreRothLD 2025-10-08T17:02:57Z

@haogege @mascoll @rogaven: Thanks for the good feedback. We tried to be cohesive all around our themes.

@mrdumpling: Congrats! You are owning those rankings :D Why the night level? We took the "you'll learn about the creatures routines" very lightly, but the spawns are slightly different. Also, the initial idea was to allow further levels only after some stars were gained, but having a "day/night" cycle seemed to fit the concept of photographing better.

And, yeah, 2000+ is a feat. That third star doesn't come easily.

Photo Tamer by MestreRothLD 2025-10-08T17:09:46Z

@tykki19: Me neither, but the game called for it. :) Glad you liked it!

@yiwai @yoav-kagan @pro4 @sakuraya @mackelio @pimeko @graebor: Thanks a lot for the messages. We worked HARD to make it happen, as it should be. hehe Glad you played and enjoyed it. Eager to see the leaderboards rising.

@pikario: Don't give up. Taking good photos demands careful observation and patience. hehe

@bzz-nsk That's nice! There's always something satisfactory (this) in doing a violence-free game. Hope your kid have a great time.

@gonutz Thanks! It was super helpful to us.

@nanamaki Thank you. Gotta ask @marcherin though. :D

ghettobastler @mysticgames @wishes @egrassah Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! We really aimed for simplicity and stress-free coziness this time. :)

@mibi88 @amiuke Thanks and congrats! All of your scores are higher than mine at this point. haha

@zowell @discon @mrbamboo Thanks for playing it!

@tailchaser Thank you. Means a lot!

@borodaolen Hey, thanks. It sounds like you saved us from... someone... About the leaderboards, I think it might not be clear that there are separate leaderboards for night and day. Would that be it?

Again, thanks everyone for playing and the feedbacks. I'll start playing yours rn. Cya!

The mood is outstanding vibes.

Shape Collector by rhewid 2025-10-09T11:04:40Z

Great entry! Well thought and executed concept. Really liked it.

As for the mentioned overscoring, one option would be having the surplus score automatically used for something else, like extra shapes on next wave, filling a power bar, meta currency...

But it's not something that bothered me. It actually serves as a clear sign that you are playing well or losing gas. Also it helps the dev if some procedural balancing is required (like identifying players who are struggling).

Anyways, awesome entry! Congrats!

Clawful by Spaint 2025-10-11T04:53:26Z

I'm amazed by how well it captures the claw machining feel... The frustration... And the satisfaction. Very well done.

Sunday I'll take the game to my cousin who has the claw machine fever. Let's see what happens, I'll let you know.

In the meanwhile, congrats to the team! Amazing concept and execution.

Gobblin' Günther by Crygos 2025-10-11T03:53:26Z

Ok, this is a very very good game. As simple as it is at first sight, the elements talk to each other very well and make for cool reactive gameplay. I kept playing it just one more time over and over again. Really congrats for it.

The game indeed is punitive. Took me a while, though, to realize that jumping after stumbling is a very costly mistake. Also, I feel like the writings on the wall are telling me that there is some sort of crafting, but I couldn't activate it.

My main suggestions would be: less punitive on mistakes, shorter level duration.

Awesome game. Will actually play it again. :)

Butterfly Gathering by UniOwl 2025-10-10T04:53:30Z

Awesome game. Went to play after seeing it on @gonutz Schmonutz's stream. I really enjoyed the depth of the "field building" aspect of the game. Made a horizontal vs vertical stripes field to ensure all flower types touch each other. This is a very good entry!

Before I Go Blind by LesDremlet 2025-10-11T04:44:23Z

This is an awesome experience. Very well tied actions, atmosphere and narrative.

Marble Trouble by mooyett 2025-10-08T00:28:34Z

My firt all 5/5. This is a great take on the theme, top notch execution. Character graphics and lines are a special point. My only tiny grip is about the final of the turn, where your ball gets slooowly stopping for too long; that could be faster. But it's a minor issue. The entry is really awesome! Congratulations to the team.

Marble Trouble by mooyett 2025-10-11T04:40:53Z

Hello there. Just to clarify my previous comment, after reading your reply: "My only tiny grip is about the final of the turn, where your ball gets slooowly stopping for too long; that could be faster".

What I meant is that the "friction" feels too slow when the marble is aaaalmost stopping... We get waiting for a few seconds that I feel could be avoided. It doesn't feel like a bug, but you know better.

Anyways, as mentioned, it's only a small annoyance. This is a total 5/5 game. Can't wait to see what else you guys make.

Bug Driver 3D by Reaktori 2025-10-11T05:03:40Z

Awesome game! Vehicle's physics are super fun and the juiceness is... juicy, in a good way. Also, as mentioned before, the intro is very moody. Very good work!

Bug Driver 3D by Reaktori 2025-10-11T05:04:27Z

PS: Thanks for providing the source code. I always learn a few things by looking at how people organize their projects. =)

Raccoon Captain: Cosmic Feast by Ruolin Zhao 2025-10-11T03:27:28Z

Awesome entry. Got the full ending and the toss ending.

The character design and the animations are very cool.

A few suggestion are: allowing for diagonal movement, putting transparent circles below the characters to serve as "shadow", making the game window smaller or putting a full screen button (in my 1080p monitor I couldn't fit the game into my screen).

Regardless of these, it's a very interesting and creative game. Congrats!

Space Invidlers by MestreRothLD 2018-04-30T18:10:53Z

Thanks for the feedback.

- The "farm lock" is coming in the next update. It's something even I missed...

- As for the flank (too wide on max speed) and barrier (too weak too soon) issues, I'll make the due changes as well.

Thanks again. I'll play your game tonight. :v:

Space Invidlers by MestreRothLD 2018-05-15T10:42:39Z

I'll surely take the feedback into consideration and probably make a pool if I develop the game further. Thanks a lot for the it.

Shuffle Climber by miroky 2018-05-15T01:30:17Z

Nitpick: It is somewhat hard to manage lack of order in the cards. Other than that, great idea, great execution. Congratulations!

Shuffle Climber by miroky 2018-05-18T04:30:09Z

@AlejandrodeCea Yes, I get the idea, but I was referring only to the interface. It's like when you're playing actual cards: if you don't put some order in the cards you are holding, you'll take much longer to make decisions.

But as I said, it's just nitpicking in case you're thinking about developing it further. Congrats for the game again!

Type n' Jump by Richard N Silva 2018-05-14T21:25:45Z

Awesome game. The fact that jmup works instead of jump shows you know what you're doing. hehe

My only grip: Some parts demanded typing way too fast (jump jump after the first "fire", or jump stop jump), which leads to frustration, since the ckeckpoint was a little far.

That said, very great game! Congrats a lot!

Do you have easter eggs in it?
