LD55 — Summoning

Necrowizardry! by pickens-inc 2024-04-17T21:43:09Z

Very cool voxel graphics! Also I liked animations like wind applied to the hat, nice little detail.

I enjoyed voice acting very much! Was surprised when I heard it. VAs did a great job! Thanks for the game.

About the gameplay: thats a pity that I couldn't throw skeletons from the platform :( I wish there were no invisible walls...

Alien Summoner by harusame 2024-04-16T21:49:22Z

изображение_2024-04-17_004200248.png

One of the best games from jam I've played so far. I am a big fan of this kind of art, like it very much! All we needed is the ability to play as aliens and destroy some pixel buildings.

Could destroy the whole city though, it became almost impossible at the end, where I lost all my units and hordes of army just smashed me to the ground, haha

Summoning Instructions by Yxure 2024-04-20T16:12:57Z

I very liked minimalistic approach to this pixel art which with the addition to some effects (smoke, color changing and creature swinging) makes the game overall very atmospheric. After the talk with "it?" screen went completely black and I'm not sure if this is intentional or not? Bell sounds also amazing. Unlike many other entries this one teached me not with text and it was very intuitive. Thanks very much!

Runes Summoner by PatBGames 2024-04-20T15:01:28Z

cool minigame for memory training, reminds me about Rubik's cube a bit! Although I was struggling at start, it's quite hard to understand what to do without text! Good job though!

If Only by Le Slo 2024-04-16T19:10:19Z

Cool fresh view on old Sokoban game! Very neat graphics! Although learning curve is a bit steep

Overtime by AlexHicks 2024-04-16T13:25:00Z

Very cool office aesthetics! It's incredible that you have made a game in custom engine!

At first I didn't quite get how to defend myself. I tried clicking and thought that units will spawn eventually but they just ran out of the window. Then I read description and got it. Also I encountered funny bug where you can drag your unit (don't place it) and it will attack enemies and basically move everywhere at the same time.

Good job anyway! Keep going!

Keyboard Summoner by Andreas Roschal 2024-04-16T21:26:48Z

Very good art here! Also, summon mechanic is very good and simple. Thank you for your hard work!

The Summoners by digital bacon 2024-04-20T15:46:45Z

Woah! That's an incredible work for just one person! I very appreciate your programmer art, I am myself can't draw very well xD The game reminded me of Slay the Spire, which I didn't played, but saw one time on my friend's computer, so I'm glad that I met deckbuilder roguelike genre in this entry!

Sadly, there's no sound, but it's may be too much for just one person. Also, enemies before boss were kinda easy for me, but the boss insta-killed me which was a total surprise!

Thank you for your game, you did a very great job!

Zoo Fantastica by Rexagon 2024-04-16T21:11:44Z

Great art! Also I liked summoning mechanic. Although I found it difficult to guess items based on some descriptions (or I messed the order in which I need to summon monsters). At first I thought that rhombuses are just rotated squares, but it was just other item xD

Dear Gods by tapehead 2024-04-16T18:54:15Z

Cool visual style! Relaxing and simple gameplay is not bad. It took some time to understand how to properly earn points for summoning.

The Wave Summoner by OnlinE_Play 2024-04-16T20:27:08Z

Congrats on your first Godot game! Glad to hear that failure with the first idea didn't scared you away from further participation. I liked the aesthetics and this simple programmer art, I see some beauty in such kind of artworks.

Gameplay is quite simple yet playable. I read the message about good and bad ghosts and thought at first that I don't need to kill good ghosts, but game didn't let me complete the wave :(

I wish music theme were a bit longer, it has a lot of repetition when playing for some time :(

But keep going! You did a great job!

Nightlife Necromancer by spiralhalo 2024-04-16T22:48:48Z

Woah! Very funny game with very sexy skeletons that just 💀💀💀 This is the one where I liked both graphics and audio VERY MUCH! OST is a banger, art is cool and sweet! Gameplay is simple though. But you did a great job anyway!

Witch Courtier by alpacalypse 2024-04-20T15:18:32Z

Very good gameplay idea with drawing constellations and sygils for summoning! One problem though: circles in corners are too small and close: it's hard to draw the symbols without crossing the wrong circle :( besides that, I also enjoyed very much your pixel art style with dithering and other cool details!

Also, ">:(" and ":(" in intro dialogue made me laugh a bit, that was good.

Dance Dance Evocation by Phanelly 2024-04-17T09:23:19Z

Very interesting concept! Although the grimoire is a bit hard to read. Also it felt to me a bit slow when I press buttons (I had to wait for animation to complete). But I liked the gameplay anyway, the most interesting of "keyboard sequence summoning" mechanics I found so far in this jam

Billy's Bargain by pedsm 2024-04-16T22:05:12Z

Very nice game! Saw the game with similar summon mechanic earlier, but nevetherless it was fun to play! Liked different goblins with their abilities. The only thing that catched my ear is repeating sounds when goblins spawn. Thank you!

Dread Dash: Rise of the Skeletal Horde by Plume 2024-04-16T13:55:49Z

изображение_2024-04-16_165339354.png

Cool and simple gameplay with RTS-like unit control. I very like chosen color palette! Didn't quite understood difference between two "circle-like" skills (also, fireball can clip through target if mage is too close). Thank you for your hard work anyway!

Summoner's Quest by SayuriNyooko 2024-04-16T13:44:02Z

Unfortunatelly didn't quite get how to progress in game. I could only find start key and mandragor. Every door is locked. Big door is non-interactable. Probably I am missing something but I can't interact with anything else... What should I do?

Pictomancer by RobLaro 2024-04-16T20:53:56Z

Very cool visual aesthetics! Also, I very LIKED the drawing mechanic, it works very well and makes the player to stay in the game! Two thought about what I didn't like: 1. In later parts of the game book price is very high. But when you spend 900+ souls, you have a chance to get the simplest book and you have to wait two or so minutes to buy another one :( 2. Summon process is very long to wait :( It would be great to see multiple summons, but less in time for each.

Thank you for your hard work on the game!

Rune Craft by Anifan gelati 2024-04-16T18:21:45Z

Astonishing high-poly art! 3D-artist did a great job! Also I very liked how you made a tutorial in game. It would be great if there were some carving mechanics based on something other than just remembering 3 options. It's such a pity that Eternal mode is lost on reload. Sound of the trash can is hurting my ears BTW :( Not bad anyway

Circle of Life by UniOwl 2024-04-16T12:55:51Z

@roughskin thanks for your feedback! Rune mechanic is something we'd like to investigate in the future indeed!

Circle of Life by UniOwl 2024-04-16T12:56:12Z

@godknows thank you! Our artists did a great job!

Circle of Life by UniOwl 2024-04-16T13:00:37Z

@the-neon-shark thanks for very detailed review! You've make a good point about stats calculation. It could be much easier to player to make creatures if stats were depending not only from connections but runes itself.

Yep, it's a bit tough to pass through rats at the start, but if a player will play a bit longer, he will manage to get more diverse creatures eventually.

Thank you for ideas listed at the end! If we continue working on this game in the future, we'll take a very close look to them.

Circle of Life by UniOwl 2024-04-16T13:04:08Z

@wmute

> it’s unclear how colors is affecting the result?

Colors don't affect the resulting creature. They're used only to make connections. Different colors don't connect. You get stats listed in hint for each connection. for example, two connections will give you x2 stats, but no connections won't give you anything

Everything else were covered by my colleague. Thanks for playing and giving feedback, it's very useful for us as it is something we can learn from!

Circle of Life by UniOwl 2024-04-16T20:49:44Z

@asfdfdfd thanks for your feedback! Glad to hear that you liked the look and feel of the game! Yes, the game is pretty random because of enemies, gems and slot spawning. Nevertheless, player actions really matter in terms of creating multiple links so you can summon some very powerful creatures. We'll think about your thought though and try to find ways to make game less random

@alldee thank you! We've as developers had a LOT of fun creating the artwork and then animating it in silly-funny ways! Also, we've spend a lot of time on making VFX, so thank you for noticing all of this c:

@reaperhb Thank you!

Circle of Life by UniOwl 2024-04-16T22:06:34Z

@vincenttt The game has no end, so players can play as long as they have creatures on the battlefield. Also we used "Easy to learn, hard to master" balance curve, so it will become very difficult at some point (indended).

@ariyassa thank you! You will see all summoned creatures on the field at some point. Eventually, rats will become so weak that they will be defeated instantly.

Thats a valid point about arrows. For some reason, WebGL build just doesn't seem to render them properly. Win version though works fine. We haven't figured out the reason behind that.

Circle of Life by UniOwl 2024-04-17T09:25:43Z

@le-slo Thank you for your feedback! Indeed, game becomes pretty fast and elements combo becomes less effective than rushing. Game balance is something to reconsider in the future perhaps.

@jean-francois Thank you! Glad to hear that you really liked the game!

Circle of Life by UniOwl 2024-04-17T18:38:44Z

@rensun Mice is just very hard for enemies at start, they just don't have enough time to attack you. Later in the game enemies become much stronger. All new creatures are waiting in some sort of queue - when creature in front is defeated, all behind it will move forward. Thank you for your feedback!

Circle of Life by UniOwl 2024-04-17T18:41:41Z

@skleembof Didn't quite understood the first paragraph. Did you tried to rotate them? Also, later in the game player will be getting more powerful gems with lots of arrows (up to 6) and there will be more slots avaiable.

UPD: did you mean removing stones from slots? We've recieved some feedback about it and I think it's a valid point to let players at least destroy incorrectly placed elements (or remove them back to invertory? idk for now)

---

The difficulty curve is pretty raw, indeed, and it needs correction in the future.

Thanks for all the points you mentioned! We'll try to learn from them to make better games in the future!

Circle of Life by UniOwl 2024-04-17T19:47:46Z

@courtneylapin thank you! It's totally fine if someone will repeate any issues - it will mean that most repeated one is very important to cover later. Win version doesn't have issue with arrows, but the WebGL one :( let us down a bit. There's one particular combination (actually 3, they're just rotated version of one) where you can't connect lines: non-adjacent slots on two different orbits. Number of slots, orbits and their position is another thing we can play around with in the future.

Glad to hear that you liked art and gameplay!

Circle of Life by UniOwl 2024-04-18T13:16:42Z

@matt-ravenhall thank you! It seems like our tutorial drawing on the left is not clear as we wanted it to be. It's one of the things that needs to be fixed! Glad to hear that you've liked the game though!

Idea Catcher——Summoning Tools by DrgCandle 2024-04-16T22:32:00Z

Very cool game! Liked the visual effects and comic-like style. Puzzles are very amusing. Thank you!

Motivation by maxplusplus 2024-04-20T16:30:42Z

изображение_2024-04-20_192913754.png

Very clever theme interpretation! Was a bit frustrated at the start (because english is not my first language), but with trial and error I managed to complete the game. Liked the art a lot and enjoyed the puzzles, despite that it was a bit hard in some places. Great job!

Crafted Calamities by Sven Walter 2024-04-20T15:27:59Z

The first game I met who took similar approach as our entry! Summoning creatures whose characteristics are based on what you place on a circle is indeed very interesting and fun to play! Although our game took more simpler approach based on primitive stats like HP and ATK values. Very good one and it has so much potential! Didn't noticed at first what each item does. Also I suppose position of item doesn't matter for summoned monster? Would be great to see some bonus slots or something each time you summon.

3D pixel art game is great also! Thanks for your hard work!

Mine-o-Mancer by CoreCraft 2024-04-17T09:47:47Z

I liked the style of the game! Although, I didn't quite get the gameplay. Monsters just wandering around around the start and do nothing. Also, mouse controls are a little bit off. If you press at left-bottom side of the tile, it will point at adjacent tile instead of the one I clicked.

It would be cool if mining feature were more stricted. For example, limit the distance based on player or make player mine by hand. As for now, I can spam-click and dig the whole map in two minutes. Thanks for your game though!

P.S.: To get more rates you should play some random games on this site and leave feedback so others can see your page more often

No more summoning! by Anthonny 2024-04-17T10:13:16Z

Simple yet nice game with cute style. Didn't get whether or not the game is infinite. Wasn't enough some kind of kind of progression, maybe (levels at least). Good job though!

Ink Summoner by Custodi 2024-04-20T14:51:02Z

Very cool idea! Also liked the gameplay and variety of spells. One of the problems that probably were mentioned (also I said about it on the stream where I saw your game) is broken camera movement when you change gravity orientation. Also I struggled a bit with box physics that were clipping inside walls. But I already knew about some of the problems and completed the game without any issues. The gameplay has some potential!

P.S. Lack of audio is kinda sad(

Phone Homies by IonBingo 2024-04-16T23:11:58Z

Didn't quite understood what my goal is. One of the creatures eventually said Earth's address but nothing happened. Also for me order of the messages seemed pretty random so I messed up correct message several times. It's a good concept and some clarification in the game of my goal or progress would be great! Thanks for the game!

Code Summonary by Mantodea 2024-04-17T10:04:09Z

Cool concept and aesthetics! One thing about bonuses: the tag repeated three times, one for each bonus, while the

appeared only once. Also, I didn't get what HEALS20 summary does. Thanks for your game though!

Woodland Pixies by Parxer 2024-10-08T22:20:32Z

Very nice for the first entry and congrats! Great to see that everything from models to music were made by you. Despite the fact that gameplay is somewhat simple you managed to make a complete game without any major issues and cutoffs. Well done!

I really liked the mood and simplicity of the visuals! Gameplay is very simple yet relaxing. Thank you!

Far From Fairies by Kurakurture 2024-10-18T22:33:45Z

Such a cool game! I wish it will get more ratings soon. I really liked cel-shaded style (but the queen in the end screen is somehow not affect by it). Sometimes my game would build ropes up to 4 meters on very high walls (near the end where there are 5 block wall). And sometimes it doesn't want to build bridges across gaps (where I meet overhangs or some other obstacles at the same time). Overall it is very well done entry especially for one person! I liked the game very much!

Miku's Minion Madness by Miku 2024-10-18T23:11:46Z

IS THAT HATSUNE MIKU???

Very cool gameplay, I liked it. Also cool theme fading in-between rounds. I will add a couple of notes as well: - While I understood health and attack icons, there's no information on quantity of minions within a card. Hard to tell what is more useful based just on those two stats. - Some of the units will spawn ahead and some just near the white square. With that it is hard to defend it because those far ahead will ignore attackers. - Idk how did you managed to pick each new card (plain random pick or smth else). While it is not neccesarily bad, it would be nice to feel more "fair" picks. For example, playing with weights or using some techniques like shuffle bag. There was a moment where I got almost every time cats only but soon after I got two Miku cards. - Miku card is almost too OP. But not because it has a lot of damage and health. It beats every enemy 1v1, because they just can't attack because of Miku's high range. - Also because of that mix of styles, white squares are looking like blank sprites to me tbh. Just an observation idk. - For some reason, Web version on ldjam.com failed to load on my browser (Arc, chromium-based browser). Itch is just fine. I had troubles with ldjam site myself.

Very well done anyway! Great entry!

Business Beetles by Diego Teran 2024-10-18T23:41:45Z

I went bankrupt on the day 6 after I hired 30 beetles in one day 💀 Well I guess beetle business isn't my strength. On the 2nd try I survived a bit longer though.

After about two weeks my progression was stuck a bit like so: 1. day N: I get lots of money for trading. 2. day N + 1: I lost almost all of it because of griefing (doesn't matter how much protection I have, defenders just sometimes run after single target while other bad guys ruining my deals!!!). 3. day N + 2: same as N.

And after unfortunate attack I couldn't recover. Eventually, I got to the income limit? Beecause my worker beetles were waiting in queues trying to make a deal. Or this is because of high expences.

That's a pity I can't fire someone, such unrealistic for a capitalism game! /joking Music is great, really liked it!!

Well done team!

Tinies in the Woods by Anifan gelati 2024-10-08T16:43:45Z

Cool rock-paper-scissors interpretation! The ability to use the same level character is nice, because remembering every counter-picks is kinda hard. Also addition of explanation on how to play the game would be nice. Although lack of animations and sound effects really affect game feel in a bad way. Hope to see good games from y'all in the future, thanks for your hard work!

Tiny Creatures by Akarinn 2024-10-08T21:54:38Z

Neat art and nice sound design! Gameplay is very rapid at first, but then I figured out how to survive a bit longer. At some point I've got a bug where I can't place creature on the tower because it toggles upgrade button instead :( Also would be great to show score at the end screen so I can know how long did I survive. Thank you!

Ink Rebels by perka 2024-10-08T22:10:15Z

Very nice and original game! I had some issues with sprite rendering order (my ink creatures started flickering at some point with each other and the carpets) but that's fine. Controls vere a bit hard at start (too heavy for me) but I got used to it. Thanks a lot!

@fleur thank you! I hope you did manage to beat level 1 at some point. We worked very hard for the visuals and gameplay and we'll try to do our better best in later games!

@sofimei thanks a lot for such lovely response! Although I want to point out that music wasn't made by our team, we linked all sources in Credits. Glad to hear that you very liked the game, we worked really hard and we'll do our best in the future!

Stolen Colors by The Spinning Sofa 2024-10-08T23:03:37Z

@pious it seems very strange. You can try windows version instead. What browser are you using? We'll try to look into that later

Stolen Colors by The Spinning Sofa 2024-10-08T23:29:29Z

@pious one of our team members also had an issue with Firefox today. We tested it in Chrome, Edge, Opera and Arc (all of them are Chromium-based browsers).

Stolen Colors by The Spinning Sofa 2024-10-08T23:40:24Z

@damien-black thanks a lot for such detailed feedback! Indeed, our balance is pretty challenging, we would like to fix it in the future. Also it is very sad that boss' completion is based too much on luck :( Return to main menu was also our oversight, it was planned to restart just current level.

I hope that we'll get to fix all the mentioned issues later, after the jam ends

Stolen Colors by The Spinning Sofa 2024-10-08T23:42:35Z

@radiorat thank you! Glad to hear you liked the idea. Difficulty is pretty rough indeed as we didn't leave much time for this important task :( Hope we'll get to fix this in the future!

Stolen Colors by The Spinning Sofa 2024-10-09T00:16:37Z

@ember44 thank you for very detailed feedback! I'll try to answer on mentioned points:

Valid and reasonable point about time limitation. I would like to try something other next time, more like quantity-based maybe? (for example, instead of time, you have limited casts)

Lack of display of the bonuses is indeed may affect perception of value of such bonuses. Maybe some visual indicator will help with that 🤔

About line count and bonuses amount: blanks and locks were indeed added to limit too much drawing freedom, but me as a game designer just didn't leave enough time to balance everything this time, which is a serious mistake of mine that can alter player experience in a bad way.

Your tiny essay is very valuable and I want to look into the mentioned problems. Actually, we are planning on building a postjam version with bug- and balance- fixes, and I think I'll try some gameplay changes, and I hope we'll manage to fix problems you mentioned.

If you are interested in our further updates, you can follow us on twitter here: https://x.com/thespinningsofa. We'll make a post about postjam version when rating ends.

Thanks again!

Stolen Colors by The Spinning Sofa 2024-10-09T00:55:42Z

@leo-leo thanks for the feedback! Your struggle with time limitation is understandable, and we will seek for ways to fix that in the future. Dexterity-based gameplay is not something we planned originally and it needs to be changed. Glad to hear that you still liked the game!

Stolen Colors by The Spinning Sofa 2024-10-10T09:58:09Z

@pious glad to hear that! We're already working on a postjam version that takes into account some of the feedback (like stats, sort of tutorial, etc.). But this probably will be available only after rating ends (I think this is fair and in spirit of jams). Thanks for the feedback!

@rufenerd super cool! Thanks for playing!

Stolen Colors by The Spinning Sofa 2024-10-10T10:01:08Z

@alwayshungry thanks for feedback! We didn't have much time to do proper hand-drawn animation so we took simpler approach to animate with code just to make creatures a little more dynamic. Similar reason was for coloring: effect kinda works, but it wasn't fine tuned as we wanted. We'll keep working to improve in the future!

Stolen Colors by The Spinning Sofa 2024-10-10T10:04:19Z

@darkwolf thank you! We already found a few bugs related to creatures navigation, but it was after the deadline :( Good point about symbols distinction. In fact, they are already had supposed to be more distinct with the coloring, but due to desaturation effect it is a lot harder to notice, hehe. There's a room for improvement

@axodo thanks for feedback! Could you provide us with a screenshot or your display resolution? maybe this was because you played in windowed mode? UI canvas is too big when played in small screen, but it's fine when you go fullscreen. We'll look into that issue.

Stolen Colors by The Spinning Sofa 2024-10-11T19:23:30Z

@axodo there's tiny "Fullscreen" blue button on the bottom right. Try use vertical scroll to see it fully. "Esc" to leave fullscreen. We probably should change canvas size because it doesn't fit very well on this website...

@sofimei @damien-black @ember44 @leo-leo @darkwolf @kyoryucomic @neoawesomeon @swanboat @pious and many others! We are happy to announce that we finally made little **postjam version**!

We took in serious consideration your feedback on the game and tried to make it better. Original version is still avaiable for ratings.

Main changes: - We removed timer entirely in favor of turns so that player will make more strategic decisions. - We added stats panel so player can actually see his progression. - Took our time to do proper rebalance. We experimented a bit with the randomness and made a game more fair (it is still not super easy but very much manageable!) - Tutorial explaining basic gameplay! - Made some minor graphical changes, both for UI and game. - Fixed some bugs (including support for Firefox).

All changes listed in *Postjam changelog* section.

Huge thanks for help! I would love to hear your thoughts on this! Please note that this version is **not** made to improve our ratings or anything like that. We wanted to provide player with best experience (and learn from our mistakes). So please if you try this version out, don't change your original ratings.

Stolen Colors by The Spinning Sofa 2024-10-14T17:20:35Z

@artallester thank you! We added an in-game tutorial in postjam version!

Stolen Colors by The Spinning Sofa 2024-10-14T20:53:17Z

@daflamingpotato damn, that's a huge tiny army! Thanks for feedback! Interesting thought on skipping capturing sequence, we'll think about that!

Stolen Colors by The Spinning Sofa 2024-10-15T02:37:46Z

@damien-black the first option is Windows here. If you prefer web, we made both versions of the game in single web-player (jam and postjam) right here and on itch. Jam version is not changed (except two bug fixes listed in general Changelog) so people can still rate the original one. You just hit play and choose option on the right (option on the left is jam version).

Stolen Colors by The Spinning Sofa 2024-10-15T22:03:54Z

@ember44 glad you found some time to try postjam version!

> At first it still felt a little random to pick what stats I wanted

We didn't wanted to change rune generation too much, but made some changes related to bonuses' weights. Every time you don't get certain type of bonus, it's chance to spawn increases a bit. So that it is still random but more uniformly distributed (there's lower chance that you won't get certain bonus for a long time).

> I think you also did a great job balancing the different classes against each other. I don’t know how much of this was in the original game tbh

I only had time to balance base stats of units, but enemies and allies 1v1 of the same class were equal. It was difficult to balance when you have timer because you have to guess how many casts will player make. And in postjam version we properly balanced every wave, which is a lot easier since you know average speed of player's progression.

> my soldiers (tanks, usually), would occasionally get stuck

Yes, we didn't find a solution to this bug yet. When you have too much allies, sometimes they block each other's navigation :(

Thanks for very valuable feedback!

Very interesting puzzle platformer! Really liked the style and mix of 3d world and 2d side characters. One thing about the controls: I wish the camera was a bit higher, as for me it was too low. Also, exit from the game on Esc character is very inconvenient also, I accidentally lost my progress twice :( But thanks for your cool game!

Treasures by mgear 2025-04-08T18:07:28Z

Cool swimming mechanics! Three notes on it:

1. its very easy to lose control of it if I use one arm too many times. 2. i got stuck a bit (but managed to get out last second). 3. I swam out of the ocean to the air (that was a bit funny).

For some reason, [Space] does not work if I want to restart a game (I had to reload the page).

Keep up a good work!

I really liked the style, how it looks well together, how the lil peeps are running. Wall breaking effect in pixel art is a chiefs kiss! It took me some time to understand how to expand upon what I got at the start.

What I did not get is: - What I have to do with the obelisks? (I found three of them, there was no more around) - I suppose that expensive thingy does not have its functionality for now? - What dancing actually give for those guys? (from gameplay point of view) - Is there any interaction with vines or those purple things is planned?

As far as I got, there is no ending yet?

Overall it already was fun to play. Please tag me if you will release postjam version, I would defenitely give it a try!

Dark Depths by buckmeister 2025-04-08T17:48:27Z

I really liked how scanning looks. Also, minor details like bubbles and fish are cool.

I did not got what I have to do at first. After stranding for a while I noticed "?" on radar, and after that I found all the items pretty quickly.

As for technical problems I stumbled upon, for some reason, game was a little bit laggy sometimes and when I accidentally switched tabs, my mouse did not disappeared when I returned so ship controls were a bit restricted. I fixed it when opened and closed upgrade window.

Not bad though! Don't forget to rate others people games if you want to get more ratings from other people

Harold Babysits by Kobato Games 2025-10-07T17:04:54Z

Unfortunately I can't read and stumbled upon every bug you've mentioned on itch page. But there's a thing or two I can add:

Sometimes, I don't understand, why I can or cannot do some things in the level. For example, game allows me to try to go to map edge and leave - but then it says "you can't do that". I have an opportunity to beat that slime, but mc says "let's not do that" (and the slime doesn't want to attack me in return)

I think the game can become a lot more fun and interesting if that small things will be taken into account. For example, level layout is built in such a way that there are no slimes yet, or exit path is blocked, or smth else (hope you get the idea). Take everything here with a grain of salt of course, as I don't play JRPGs very often

Anyway, despite you used standart assets, there still was done pretty huge job (making of rpgs or strategies on a game jam scares me a lot ☠️)

Thanks for your game, keep it up (and try keeping scope on jams *small*, making the most fun out of the idea, rather than risking all the game on something very big)

Green Amber by xHadie 2025-10-07T20:42:09Z

I very liked the visual aesthetic, it was very atmospheric. Although, something I want to point:

1. Because of very dim lighting I had hard time to understand what even to do at first. My gear kept falling and I didn't see any obstacles. While this dark lighting and fog may be totally fine in itself as an introduction, maybe some text/pictogram hints would be very nice. And maybe simpler level? (e.g. without falling or/and without wall climbing so early)

2. Then, the collectables. I entered a menu, and. What to do with those things? I mean, game allows me to select them. So I thought "maybe I can interact with them somehow". But I didn't found a way, so my next thought was "oh, maybe they are pure cosmetics. that's ok, but a bit sad"

Overall, it was cool little platformer (and very beautiful aesthetically). I could see potential in it. Maybe more mechanics with gears, interactions with those collectables, etc. Thank you!

upd: I forgor to add. The sounds after collecting that big blue thing becomes annoying very quickly. But I liked the music a lot!

Butterfly Gathering by UniOwl 2025-10-07T18:19:03Z

@korzhik Hey, game designer here!

First of all, wow, thanks for detailed feedback! I'll try my best to answer on some important parts

I mostly agree with your points. Although or game is about collecting in the first place, economy and short-term goal planning here is pretty mediocre

The shovel and flowers are still useful (kind of?), but their goal may either not be entirely clear or just enough. Players are still need to remove old plants and try different combinations (if they want to collect all butterfly species in a reasonable amount of time)

Yes, combinations. When game decides what butterfly to spawn, it picks random flower and looks at its neighbors, so there are some kind of combinations present (but simple enough for a jam)

Maybe I, as a GD, need to be more precise/strict when designing game systems like that and not leave all of their problems on balance/level design itself. Still don't have enough competence there, but I am definitely planning on improving my skills there, and your feedback is very useful, so hopefully on next LD I will be prepared better 😎

Thanks again!

Butterfly Gathering by UniOwl 2025-10-07T18:25:51Z

@maghwyn, thanks a lot for your feedback! Glad to hear that you liked ui and art design!

Actually, world record idea came to mind accidentally, and the size was perfect fit for it! (actually, I personally was inspired by WEB FISHING)

I talked about economy-related issues in a huge message above, but your point about too much rng and repetitiveness is useful too. That is not the first time I face similar problem, still don't know the best way to solve it in a jam game 😪

Butterfly Gathering by UniOwl 2025-10-07T18:31:18Z

@artificer thank you! Lighting is actually very simple and consists of two things: 1. Shadowmask (I asked our artist to draw a texture, where white=light, black=no light), which I overlayed over the game field, so butterflies and flowers are "lit by sun" 2. Post-processing. Our artist made four lookup-texture (LUTs), that we then used in color grading effect (essentially it is like photoshoping game image every frame), then we blended LUTs based on time of day

Glad that you liked the names, it was actually harder than lighting lmao. The thing about "combine flowers to get some species" is kinda hidden from the player, but that was the point - to make him/her experiment. Maybe, however, that is a little bit too much to ask for a game jam players 🧐

Butterfly Gathering by UniOwl 2025-10-08T12:05:35Z

@amunonra thank you for playing! In 1.0.4 version or in Web version on itch critical bugs were fixed, so 1.0.1 still crashes but 1.0.4/Web don't

Butterfly Gathering by UniOwl 2025-10-09T09:05:05Z

@aqtun thank you! We found the issue you wrote about, and we'll look into it in next jams. Unity very weirdly processes nicknames by default

Butterfly Gathering by UniOwl 2025-10-09T09:08:07Z

@catusfelony thanks for feedback! The symbols are elements. Each butterfly has one or two elements, and each flower gives one element. In order to get a specific butterfly, player needs to plant specific flowers close to each other. Free flower is sun/moon (we only have two butterflies with those), latter four is water/fire/earth/air

Butterfly Gathering by UniOwl 2025-10-09T09:17:40Z

@tardis2snej @catusfelony yea, the issues about boringness, mid- to end-game short-term goals and balance is what I want to take a very close look after the jam ends. Thanks for pointing this out though, this kind of feedback is very useful too!

Butterfly Gathering by UniOwl 2025-10-10T08:10:44Z

@faby thanks for the feedback! We don't have much experience with color blindness, but we'll definitely think how to improve our design to make future games more accessible!

Butterfly Gathering by UniOwl 2025-10-10T08:17:01Z

@leparlon thanks! I think balance adjustments alone are not enough though, as our current game design is just lacking of something (as players already mentioned above), and the game will be either boring or about grind (and the latter we don't want more). We'll try to improve that in future games

Butterfly Gathering by UniOwl 2025-10-10T08:27:47Z

@coda-highland thanks! For me personally it's better to hear clear negative feedback than to hear "well, I don't know, is it good or bad, I'm not sure". With clear feedback I at least have a rough understanding on where I can improve later

Gibberwave by yiwai 2025-10-08T19:20:30Z

I very liked the aesthetics of photographic background and hand painted foreground elements! About gameplay:

- I think the timer here is too harsh. Maybe the game doesn't need it at all, or it should be much slower. I don't know if there's enough time to read bubbles in Chinese, but in English there's a lot of text and for foreigners (for whom English is the second language) it can be quite challenging.

Anyway, thanks a lot for your game! I really liked reading the bubbles (whichever I had enough time to read) :eyes:

Got stuck in purple planet, got me a while to complete it. Only at the end I understood that I can, in some way, rotate satellites (I forgor I was on spheres all the time 💀). Really liked appearance of these procedural planets (especially, planets with rings)

Sound was a little bit disturbing, and maybe I expected more radio/music from it? maybe some old timey looped songs when I correctly established signal on a planet (more % = less noise for example)

But overall it was fun playing this game. Thanks!

Very interesting interpretation of "signal" theme. Two(three) things to consider in future jams: 1. Diagonal controls are not very intuitive, got me some time to learn them 2. The game remembers "straight" controls (up/down/left/right), but forgots diagonal ones when I stop 3. Mouse control with scroll only may be not the one solution. As for me, my scroll wheel is kinda broken, so maybe additional alternative using keyboard (arrows up/down) would be good? not as a replacement, but an addition.

very funny and cool game! i liked that beep boop bop soundtrack, references to some popular songs (another cheese bites the crust etc). didn't get mechanic at first (maybe because of controls), but understood it after a while. good entry!

Cool space atmosphere, a reminder of a danger of unknown deep space. Got a few bugs: invisible cursor (managed to start a game via Tab + Enter), accidentally left map borders and died xd. Also it's probably better to restart the game rather than force quit. Also it's cool that you've managed to draw that much different characters!
