LD42 — Running out of space

Postgirl by Noxalus 2018-08-14T00:10:33Z

I enjoyed the simple concept for the game. The audio was also very well done. I think the end game could use some tweaks because once you got to a point that you basically were stuck it would take another minute and half before you reached the line. As a solution you could try adding flaps higher up so skilled players could redeem themselves instead of waiting that time.

Potion Seller by CameronPenner 2018-08-17T00:05:39Z

I would like to start out and mention that I really enjoy the design and gameplay. The sound is hilarious and I really enjoyed it. It did however take me time to understand how to play and what to craft the people coming in. Perhaps during the players first run you could offer some sort of UI helpers or basic hands on tutorial for the first couple people. Other than that was a really good entry. I did however couldnt really seem the entry too much in this submission but I guess as you get really far the table would start to get really full.

Should see if you can make a quick VR port of the game would love to try it out using my mixed reality. Also being able to thrown basically everything in the room was awesome so keep that up!

The Space Station Is Running Out Of Space By Crashing Onto The Planet Below by tsjost 2018-08-13T23:59:09Z

Interesting concept, enjoyed the audio.

No Space for Sympathy by Cibbler 2018-08-16T23:39:22Z

Interesting concept, I feel a bit more UI is needed during gameplay though specially to show something such as each person for quickly jumping around the ship. It took me a couple of tries to realize I had people in other rooms. Some balancing could be used as well, I was on normal and the oxygen depleted in about 30 seconds. The main menu itself was nice and had good animations on the UI content as a whole. Perhaps tweak the background a little so it looks less of a noise map though. The 3D, and animations are good for a game jam so a plus there. I had the sound turned down in the menu and applied but when I went into game it became quite loud again. The tutorial also mentioned about left clicking to move the characters but was instead the right click. Overall a nice entry for the game jame. I am like @timbals though and really couldn't fine the theme in the chunk of game I was playing. This could be due to the level design which could of started you out in a large room with multiple people forcing you into tinier rooms thoughout the gameplay or something.

LD46 — Keep it alive

LD-46 Tower Defense by AlexHicks 2020-04-24T12:57:53Z

@gastricsparrow For sure a UX pass over everything would be a great addition to level the game up.

Bug-Free Zone by GastricSparrow 2020-04-21T12:54:55Z

I did end up having the same UI issue as others, but overall I think the general idea and gameplay is interesting. Just touching up the UI in terms of showing the connected lines on top and it being scaled proper and you'll have yourself a good entry.

Make sure to come and try out my jam game as well :D https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/ld-46-tower-defense/

Captain Molly by Saering 2020-04-24T13:14:02Z

Great submission, well polished entry.

Would be nice to see some sort of dodge type mechanic but other than that the game was rather fun to play. I like the kitties on the back part was a really nice touch.

Would be awesome if you could come check out my Tower Defense game I made for the jam: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/ld-46-tower-defense

Well bucket by Jasuse 2020-04-21T12:48:41Z

Enjoyed the art direction on the game, everything felt cohesive and together.

Minor tips to improve things a little further: - I would reduce the post processing blur as it felt over powered. - For Animations you can uncheck the time it takes to transition to reduce that extra half second that the walking is still going on after lifting a key.

Look back by Fables 2020-04-21T14:26:14Z

Really good entry, enjoy that you took the theme and twisted it on then head by applying it to history. Nice Job!

Feed Them, With A Gun! by Andrew-David 2020-04-21T13:07:21Z

Overall a really good complete entry! I enjoyed that it was a complete simplistic experience that "just worked" as intended.

Couple of minor feedback and improvements - Would be nice to have a hover state over the upgrades on what they do rather than relying on the player to read the submission page. - Upgrades that you cant purchase are greyed out and have a hover state to tell you how much you need. I often found myself just waiting wondering how much the need auto feeder cost. - As a balancing thing would be nice to have a max amount of feeders or animals per room size.

If you have a minute or so to check out my entry I would really appreciate it :D https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/ld-46-tower-defense/

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Build a Bridge by TimBeaudet 2020-10-06T22:48:39Z

Good entry.

Enjoy the physics of the car as I got going. Was a little confused on the objective from the very beginning and when I hit escape to bring up a menu it would exit the game.

Feedback:

- Consistent visuals which are nice - The camera movement switching 180 degrees is a little jarring and perhaps smoothing that would be a bit better - Some sort of UI direction on what to do for the game. Spent like 40 seconds on the first pickup trying to repair the bridge there - Removing Escape as the quit button

Ludum Fair by AlexHicks 2020-10-05T13:27:02Z

Thanks @ryan-paton, will check out your entry later on today :D

Ludum Fair by AlexHicks 2020-10-05T13:43:49Z

@gibss yeah was something I wanted to add in this weekend for sure; surely enough was the last item to go in but I believe it was worth. Makes me want to try over and over again for sure.

Ludum Fair by AlexHicks 2020-10-07T17:36:28Z

@tyler-miller Yeah I agree on your points I think the difficulty ramp would help a lot

Once More, Dear Friends by GibsS 2020-10-05T23:08:08Z

My very first thought was like why are you spawning so many mobs. I died and then realized why; great hidden mechanic I was expecting was fun to play. With some SFX and audio if would be really good.

BagJam by Ryan Paton 2020-10-05T23:12:27Z

I agree with the other commments on making the colours match a bit more specially the pinks and reds can be kinda hard. I thought it was a bit awkward that sometimes that didn't move away after confirming it was their stuff and made me wondering do I need another version of that color before moving on.

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Volcanaclimber by niksg 2021-04-27T13:42:46Z

Very nice work on the overall game!

Pros: - Art style is consistent and fits very well with colours chosen for important parts of the game which are quick and easy to pick out - Audio: Very Minecraft cave style vibes, very fitting for this volcano cave game - Gameplay: Fun and challenging to master!

Cons: - Perhaps some what to ramp up the swing at the start (not much at the start until after x amount of distance), found the very first tries to get going and understand what was going on.

Deep Sea Teddy Dive by winniehell 2021-04-27T16:52:07Z

Nice Entry!

You were right, very similar to my game.

Pros: - Ship Upgrading - Ambient animations (fish, whales etc)

Cons: - I think a general lighting pass may really help here. I think for the sub in general you could add a blueish overlay to it to make it feel more like it was under water. Currently it feels like its sitting above - The resurfacing mechanic felt a little odd and the UI placement of the Oxygen the first few times I didn't even know what was happening. - Some sort of in game indicator around the ship to know Oxygen is below a certain percent could really help the above comment

Into The Deep by AlexHicks 2021-04-27T16:36:46Z

@sesca Thanks for the comment! There is actually no end to the game  but I'm glad you had fun playing it for as long as you did. One of my goals was trying to create something polished so I spent a lot of time on shaders and animations making that first trip down memorable.

Into The Deep by AlexHicks 2021-04-27T16:37:15Z

@john-harper Pun always intended :smiley:

Into The Deep by AlexHicks 2021-04-27T16:38:28Z

@milan8890 @mikeandtherest For sure will continue tweaking the sub speed. Currently it speeds up as it reaches its max tilt and also increases the amount of bubbles coming out to try and sell the effect.

Into The Deep by AlexHicks 2021-04-27T19:45:59Z

@nicso you can still progress without the lights just takes you a few runs

Into The Deep by AlexHicks 2021-05-01T22:32:56Z

@natalia-dushkina Thanks for the playing the game! 5 pearls is still a worthy accomplishment no doubt.

LD55 — Summoning

The Ritual by silkworm_sweatshop 2024-04-17T01:32:09Z

Overall great game to play, love the screen shake and impact when placing something in the circle. Felt really nice to do. Would like a better way to close the book and as others have said being able to save the pages.

Overtime by AlexHicks 2024-04-16T14:27:36Z

@uniOwl Thanks, for the feedback. Yeah I tried using the continued to drag "feature" and thought it was a funny side effect that just worked.

@heuser Thanks for the feedback! Love the coined phrase Whirlwind Wendy! Yeah balancing for sure will make it nicer, at about an hour left it was too hard and I wanted to make sure people could win the game.

@grimw0lf Thanks for the feedback!

Overtime by AlexHicks 2024-04-17T15:36:10Z

@thomz12 defiantly hit a good fair share of problems that we had to fix. One of the biggest things was that I integrated in the scripting for the gameplay into the engine on the Friday before the LD started. So we often hit API roadblocks where my buddy @ghayoub would need some sort of call to preform an action in the engine. An example could be to get another script from somewhere or flipping the facing direction.

Sound was also something I have never really done so I integrated that in while we make the game so our sound person could have all their work shown off. Excited to see if the next jam goes more smoothly.

Overtime by AlexHicks 2024-04-18T19:42:09Z

@leparlon That is correct, the engine reads the .aseprite file directly and will compile a texture sheet for the shaders to use. Would highly recommend the .aseprite file documentation, it is really good.

For the sprite sheet I basically put 1 animation on each row of the sheet so animation determines y uv and x is based on frame in the animation. Takes into account that not all animations are the same length.

@dimi-kaye Thank, you!

@litterattus Yeah still lots of work to do on resizing the window for sure :stuck_out_tongue: Hopefully something I can fix up for future jams.

@sarafilipa Thank you

Overtime by AlexHicks 2024-04-19T00:54:29Z

@mephistase Sorry to hear that, the game by default runs at 1920x1080 and I havent really added window scaling sadly to the engine yet.

If it helps you can open the project.rpg file in a text editor and change the resolution from 1920x1080 down to 1280x720 which should work for your monitor and not cause in game issues.

The Curse of Lake Pineview (Gameboy Color) by zagony2613 2024-04-17T01:18:02Z

Really nice work! Loved that it was a small polished example and think it was an interesting take on the theme.

Elements of Kha by WouterK12 2024-04-17T01:25:31Z

Art style is really nice and together. Thank you for the tutorial it really helped. Enjoyed that the spells were different shapes. Was a bit hard to get at enemies coming from below though where the UI was.

Mortein by Calebsnotonfire 2024-04-17T01:10:15Z

Good entry, I think one piece of feedback would be to add some sort of effect to when you get hit by something so the player understands it a bit more.

LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Tokokyo by AlexHicks 2024-10-08T00:02:27Z

@shaved-viking Thanks for the feedback, for best results so far I have been using Chrome. Have heard a few people on safari having similar issues as well.

Tokokyo by AlexHicks 2024-10-08T00:04:18Z

@crushedsummers Yeah looks to be a fun LD site issue on the resolution I think  Thanks for giving it a play!

Tokokyo by AlexHicks 2024-10-08T00:24:09Z

@gaverion @pigeonescu Just curious, were you able to hit the fight UI button in the middle (kinda sometimes shows up as half the text) that would invoke the auto battling for the round. More curious on the state it froze in so I can look into it a bit more.

Tokokyo by AlexHicks 2024-10-08T00:30:28Z

@pigeonescu thank you for the information! Will note that down that its having trouble going back to the Gotcha machine

Tokokyo by AlexHicks 2024-10-09T21:05:45Z

Was able to upload a new build which should fix the losing bug now, so the game loop can continue.

Stellar Slime Ranch by Arqcenick 2024-10-07T23:43:38Z

Im finding the web build is not loading for me, even waiting for a while. May need to check that out

Stellar Slime Ranch by Arqcenick 2024-10-07T23:54:10Z

@safalevent Awesome will give it a shot over there

Stellar Slime Ranch by Arqcenick 2024-10-07T23:59:36Z

Great entry! Once I figured out what to do it got a little easier for. For some possible polish it may be helpful to use some sort of UI to direct the user downward at the start. Your eye initially catches all the cool stuff you can buy and by then you other wasted half your time. I would avoid starting the round timer at the start until you start moving so people can get their bearings straight and read any text that you had on screen for diretion.

Oh God Please Don't Kill Me Mr. Frog by crushedsummers 2024-10-08T00:28:35Z

Great job! Art and sound is awesome, I did have one small issue and that was the intro cut scene was just pure black with some audio playing. Overall nice work!

Tiny wars by wmillett 2024-10-08T00:22:21Z

Was getting a loading error trying to load the game, I believe its due to their sandbox environment. Let me know if theres like an itch link or something I could try

Duck Survivors by Julian France 2024-10-07T23:51:24Z

Simple to pickup and play, was a fun game to play. Great job everyone! Randy the Raccoon is overpowered but thats the way she goes.

Would be cool to see the AI not overlap in the future as a polish item but overall great job.
