Great job you guys; it looks great! I only have a Mac at home but I still wanted to show support!

nicso 2018-08-14 13:19

really nicely done 👌

Only complain would be that poisonous thingy is trickier than other to grab.

adam-pandos 2018-08-14 13:20

The dracula is the best! :D

headless 2018-08-14 13:24

Really good, I like the characters, I like the pace of the game. The workdesk fills up very quick later in the game.

Minor nitpicks ,sometimes gold gets stuck under the bowls of new ingredients and the UI is a bit clunky when you play for the first time.

tomko 2018-08-14 13:27

So far its best i saw. 5/5

maoap 2018-08-14 13:35

Wow such a great game :) However, at the end it is very repetitive =D

pickens-inc 2018-08-14 14:06

Wow, thank you for all your kind words guys!

@nicso Thank you! Yes, fitting so many ingredients around the table had some drawbacks, I think putting the root in front of the cube might have helped :P thank you!

@adam-pandos Haha thank you! I had so much fun voicing him, bleh bleh bleh!

@headless Thank you very much for the praise! Yes, that coin bug really bothers me too. Didn't realise it was such a regular occurrence until late in development when we started having more valuable items.

@tomko Thank you :) super happy you enjoyed it!

@maoap Thank you! Yeah haha perhaps more ways to combine things than just mixing two together would have helped but we're very happy with what we have! Thanks again!

cameronpenner 2018-08-14 23:07

Unfortunately we forgot to fix the colliders on the containers. They all have the exact same hit box which is actually based on the bowl, not the item in the bowl.

icxon 2018-08-15 06:46

Rapido! Impressive voxel art and acting work. :alembic:

It is really fun to play, here is my a-bit-messed-up-at-the-start attempt:

https://youtu.be/dkmekQ-5qbA

pickens-inc 2018-08-15 12:34

@icxon thank you very much! Getting to watch someone's first time perspective on the game is invaluable. Major things like not properly indicating that you should press the left bell first (which says Chill mode) to learn the game. And small things like you can just click the coins to pick them up instead of dragging.

Thanks!

thebmxeur 2018-08-15 14:52

Nice entry. Picking things and putting them where you want is a little bit off in my opinion.

devio 2018-08-16 14:05

Great job, Addictive gameplay. You should continue work on this, it has great potential! Loved reviewing this submission!

bismark 2018-08-16 14:08

It's just ... an excellent game. :-)

filgreen3 2018-08-16 15:05

Skyrim trader simulator. Cool idea!

somuch 2018-08-16 15:34

Really fun entry. Played it till the end. Two hindrances to the experience: One is that the collisions and the graphics are slightly off. And when you get paid the coins fall off the table or behind the ingredients and it's almost impossible to collect them. This irks the completionist inside me. Great game though, when I look back at LD42 I shall remember potion seller :)

pickens-inc 2018-08-16 16:59

@thebmxeur Thanks!

@devio Thank you so much! We appreciate that, and definitely will!

@bismark That's very kind of you to say, thank you :)

@filgreen3 Thanks! We think so, an NPC who has a life too!

Thanks @somuch for the feedback! We agree with that, definitely. It needs polish, and when the coins get stuck behind the ingredients it's really annoying. However, take consolation that any coins that fall off the table are counted :)

cameronpenner 2018-08-16 17:35

@thebmxeur thanks, yeah, it can be kinda tricky to get things right when there's so little space ;) I'm thinking of maybe doing some kind of glowey shadow projection in a version 2.

@devio thank you very much! we have all sorts of ideas for where to take this next, mobile and VR would work pretty well we thing. (We've already done mobile builds and it's great)

@bismark thank you very much for the kind words! <3

@filgreen3 XD Thanks!

Thank you @somuch for your feedback (I can't imagine how often you must get that) Glad to hear you played till the end! I have ideas for how to do collisions so that it feels a bit more natural. As far as coins go. the ones that fall off the table are actually automatically added to your money, but the ones that are stuck are just stuck DX I agree it really bugged me too, but we didn't have time to solve that one.

Thanks everyone who played! I'll try to get through everyone who commented and try your games too! <3

artish357 2018-08-16 20:32

Great game, feels more like a complete one than one made in two days! Gameplay is fun, and the inclusion of voice acting is surprising but it fits the game really well!

pickens-inc 2018-08-16 21:07

@artish357 Thank you! we're so proud of it, thank you very much!

alexhicks 2018-08-17 00:05

I would like to start out and mention that I really enjoy the design and gameplay. The sound is hilarious and I really enjoyed it. It did however take me time to understand how to play and what to craft the people coming in. Perhaps during the players first run you could offer some sort of UI helpers or basic hands on tutorial for the first couple people. Other than that was a really good entry. I did however couldnt really seem the entry too much in this submission but I guess as you get really far the table would start to get really full.

Should see if you can make a quick VR port of the game would love to try it out using my mixed reality. Also being able to thrown basically everything in the room was awesome so keep that up!

nam-nguyen 2018-08-17 12:58

Love the character design and the voice acting. The crafting system is amazing and I like that the camera is shifting slightly as I look to the left and the right, really brings the character Im controlling to life. Great entry, this deserves more ratings really.

pickens-inc 2018-08-17 14:46

@alexhicks Thank you very much! We had loads of fun making the sounds.. Yes, alas tutorialisation is always a hard thing for LD but we appreciate you getting round that. And yeah! We're trying for a mobile port and a VR port! Thanks for playing!

@nam-nguyen That's very kind of you to say! Thank you very much, we are super proud of it.

annie-owl 2018-08-17 17:29

What a cute game you've made. Graphics are really lovely and once again I'm amazed by the voice over quality. What's up with this jam having so many nicely voiced games? And the way you've made main menu and tutorial is very cool and original. I had some problems with combining stuff together, but that wasn't a big deal. A bigger complaint is the difficulty. I've played casual mode first, and after that timed mode wasn't really challenging for a pretty long time. Other than that - solid entry. Good job guys.

kapiteinkoekwous 2018-08-17 17:50

Great game, interesting tutorial structure (ramping up difficulty by teaching chopping up ingredients) (from Arjendesign's stream)

mouthlessgames 2018-08-17 19:50

Hey polyrogue_, thanks for the really cool stream today. And thanks for playing my entry as well. Now to your swell-polished entry. Me and my younger sister laughed our ass off of the voice acting of the heroes passing by the potion shop. We actually had the most fun hearing all the voices and discovering all different characters than the potion making itself. The recording quality is excellent and it must have been quite funny recording all these voices. I also think your entry is innovative since it puts you in this position of an NPC, trying to meet all the demands these bypassing heroes have. I think the game achieves this pov really well. Finally I can say that the Minecraft-like style was really pleasing and fitting to the mood the game projected. Well done, you can be really proud of what you achieved in these 3 days and hope to catch you again in your stream.

zeriver 2018-08-17 19:56

That is a super interesting concept and great execution. Gameplay is easy to grasp on yet the longer you play the more challenging the game gets, the difficulty curve is really well balanced. The voxel graphics are also very nice and set a nice mood for the game together with the music and voiceacting. One thing i would suggest is to add outline to objects that you mouse over and somehow make it easier to know where you are about to drop something (better shadows or something maybe). Still the game is really well made and designed. I like how you even got time to make two mods for playing, really impressive. Good luck with VR and mobile ports!

cameronpenner 2018-08-18 15:50

@annie-owl Thank you! The voice acting on this one was a ton of fun. At the end of the jam we had an hour left and just pumped out as many characters as we could. It was our favorite part! As far as difficulty goes, since we didn't let people choose difficulty, we figured a little bit easier is better than harder, especially with so many recipes to flip through. I've played too many jam entries that were balanced to the developer and it's just not fun. We decided to rather let people feel successful and get a ways through the game before "losing".

@kapiteinkoekwous Thanks for the feedback! It was really cool to watch the stream and see someone reacting to it. That's my favorite. One thing I picked up from the stream is that he was expecting new recipes to be added to the end of the book which definitely would have made more sense. The book was originally a stretch goal that we ended up making it to. To implement it we made a direct link to an internal list of recipes that we knew the user could make. We never sorted these or added them in any order since as a hack we pretty much generate that whole list based off of every item in the game and what's already existed every frame. it's not pretty but it got the job done! :P

@frittatenbank thanks so much for trying out our game! We're both surprised at how much of an impact the characters made! We both though the game was really good and as a treat we just made a whole bunch of characters, and they turned out to be a huge highlight to us and everyone that plays the game! I find it's pretty rare for a LD entry to have actual characters that speak to you, and though it's simple I think we captured that feeling in a charming way :) I really like the chaos of trying to quickly craft something while a customer is looking at you like "Fulfill my needs! I must go to battle!" XD

Thanks @zeriver! We've done a couple entries in a row that we used blender for and it really slowed us down, going the voxel route sped things up SO much, so we're really pleased even just with that alone. We've definitely mentioned outlines as well and I completely agree. Right now tooltips are almost serving that purpose, but it's not the same as explicitly saying "this is the hitbox where you can grab things". I mentioned in a comment higher up that I'd like to add some kind of projection/shadow below the object so you can see where you're dropping it. I had thought about some kind of glow when you're mousing over a second ingredient so you know that the 2 are going to try and craft something. These bits of UI polish can really clarify things that we left unclear this time around!

annie-owl 2018-08-18 17:40

@cameronpenner Yes, I agree with that. When a game is unfairly difficult it leaves a bad impression after you play it. Just pointed out a thing, that can be tweaked in the future.

joe-sycalik 2018-08-18 20:43

This is definitely one of my favorites so far! What an interesting idea and a surprisingly very fun game! I didn't feel like there was much of a challenge at all, even during the timed mode.

I didn't really get how it hit the theme, as I never even came close to running out of space. Sometimes it was a bit hard to grab the right item (poison root), and after a while, many coins would get stuck at the front of your stand. The most serious issue though is that the book got pretty buggy at times. It seems that the way it was updating was perhaps a little strange? When there were new recipes and I was trying to navigate it, it often wouldn't cycle in the way you would expect. This was frustrating, but not game breaking necessarily.

Overall, this was a fantastic entry! The voice acting and visuals were very well done, though a little variety in the dialog for each character would have been nice. The game felt a bit slow, but it was rather relaxing. I found myself playing it far more than most jam games. Good job! =)

paulloz 2018-08-19 12:07

Yaaay! You did a pretty good job making a great game! The voxel style, although classic, is neat and the sounds are good. Controls are simple and effective. I can easily picture myself playing at this game when I have a five or ten minute break.

I don't know if that's intended but sometimes gold coins get stuck behind my little ingredient bowls and I can't collect them. It made me rage quite a few times :rage:

I'm not sure I have really more to say aside that it's probably in my top 5 games from this Ludum Dare. Kudos.

laminariy 2018-08-19 18:45

I DROPPED POTIONS TEN TIMES BEFORE I COULD MAKE THE LAST POTION! It was so hard ... I love this game! Great game!

f1krazy 2018-09-01 22:11

This is great fun! I like the voxel graphics, and the characters are hilarious, especially with the voice lines. Some of the recipes are quire funny as well, like the one where you just crush a rat with a hammer. The complexity of the recipes gradually cranks up as you unlock more ingredients, and while I only played in Chill Mode, I imagine in Timed Mode things will quickly get very hectic as you frantically flick through your recipe book trying to remember how the hell you make a Potion of Sleeping so you can use it to make some other thing.

There are other, smaller things I liked about this, like the running total at the bottom of how many recipes you've discovered, or the ability to fling the title graphics and tutorial pages around. Annoyed at a customer's complex order? Fling a Knife at their head. It's okay, it won't hurt them.

A couple of people have already mentioned that coins will sometimes get stuck between or behind the bowls. In Chill Mode I can eventually fish them out, but I imagine in Timed Mode they're as good as gone. More often, though, I found coins would slip off the edge nearest to me, and then they really were irretrievable. So the coin physics perhaps need a little work.

All in all, this is a very fun, very well-polished game. Good job!

cameronpenner 2018-09-02 22:31

@laminariy glad to hear you made it far enough that you ran out of space! :P thanks for your feedback :)

@f1krazy Coins that fall off the table automatically get added to the money pot! We weren't very clear about it though. In the post jam version it's much easier to grab coins from behind the pots as well. But that one is not for rating. Thank you for your detailed feedback!

Thanks again to everyone who has played the game! We love reading all your feedback, and this jam has been so much fun! You're all the best!

andrei9 2018-09-03 13:13

I liked the Graphics, and the Gameplay was fun, Nice Game.

cameronpenner 2018-09-03 18:53

Thanks @andrei9!
