I very much like the idea and gameplay. I have only two points to note: The driving feels a bit like sliding on ice and the game has a bit low fps on my pc.

- game has a basic loop (driving around racetrack like loops to pick stuff up) - audio sounds are good for what they are - could have use some music - game models looked good (except for the water) - something is off about the executable, the Linux GUI file browser doesn't like opening it, it does start from the terminal, so it definitely is getting miss IDed by the GUI file browser - I am getting some intermittent "application is not responding" messages - one came up while playing, and the system got stuck as if I was always pressing the button(s) I was pressing when it came up - camera - the 'back up' spin snap is disorientating - would be nice if the camera took into account your facing, not just current 'slide' direction

Hey @timbeaudet and @tsjost, nicely done! And thank you for providing a native Linux executable, runs like a charm. I really like the low poly look, and the chill simplicity of this game. One thing I wasn't certain about when playing was if there is more content in city parts where I hadn't built a bridge (but I'm guessing the city is endless anyway). The one thing I would change is, as @adroitconceptions already said, the camera rig.

@adroitconceptions regarding Linux executable: most Linux file browsers don't like launching executables (notably: Gnome). As far as I know there is nothing that can be done about it from the perspective of people shipping you binaries. Perversely, I think Gnome file browser *can* launch *Windows* executables because it thinks they are "documents" that can be opened with Wine. I didn't have any issues running the game though.

adroitconceptions 2020-10-06 10:12

@udo - it launches all my other executables just fine. Unity builds, Godot builds, etc all work... So there is clearly something different about this executable.

udo 2020-10-06 10:25

@adroitconceptions can you point me to a Linux build on Unity that launched fine for you? I'd like to see how they did that

adroitconceptions 2020-10-06 10:34

@udo you can look at my game and every game on my itch.io page.

udo 2020-10-06 10:42

@adroitconceptions I stand corrected, you are absolutely right.

@timbeaudet it seems like TB builds on Linux are tagged "ELF 64-bit LSB shared object" whereas the Unity executables are instead "ELF 64-bit LSB executable" as it should be. Seems like a compiler switch issues maybe?

nopogo 2020-10-06 12:12

Great movement controls as always @timbeaudet. Dig the driftiness. The camera switch when you change directions was a bit jarring at times. Killing it with the racing games!

The physics are pretty wonky, but fun. I fixed all the bridges twice and then assumed there was probably no more content. Took that opportunity to drive more recklessly and see what happens. I do wish there was an end goal or something, and maybe just more things to do. The basic driving is fun.

The visuals look very nice but the constantly shifting water made me a bit dizzy.

alexhicks 2020-10-06 22:48

Good entry.

Enjoy the physics of the car as I got going. Was a little confused on the objective from the very beginning and when I hit escape to bring up a menu it would exit the game.

Feedback:

- Consistent visuals which are nice - The camera movement switching 180 degrees is a little jarring and perhaps smoothing that would be a bit better - Some sort of UI direction on what to do for the game. Spent like 40 seconds on the first pickup trying to repair the bridge there - Removing Escape as the quit button

Nice Job and idea! Congrats!

Really impressed by the custom game engine! Love the low poly models and colors (maybe you can improve a bit the water). Controls are really well made, they make the game so funny to play. Sound effects are nice. Great entry, just a pity it doesn't work immediately on windows without those two libraries, in the end I played it on linux.

neato !

blotosaur 2020-10-10 04:33

Most fun part was optimizing the routes with all the drifting. Completed the game twice. Sometimes, when I was already half-way falling into the water, I'd just snap back onto the track. Still, really cool that the game was made with custom game and physics engine! Great entry!

rhoka 2020-10-15 02:56

Good job on the custom engine. I think you could really punch it up with a few small things like generic background music. A couple things Ii found were that there was really no incentive to go around rather than collecting the materials and going back. Also the camera was kinda all over the place and made the car more difficult to control. If the camera was a bit more steady I think it'd be easier and more fun to get in the zone with drifting through the course.

ptsnoop 2020-10-24 09:18

When you called it a "skid-steer", you weren't kidding. Slipperiest dump truck I've ever driven!

I liked the low-poly graphics and visual style of the thing. I would have liked an end goal, though, or even just some more varied types of pickups around the place. Still enjoyed it though!

wahooney 2020-10-26 11:42

I really enjoyed this one. Your aesthetic, while simple, is very appealing. I would have played for much longer, but... that camera, that took me back to GTA1. By the time I had fixed two bridges I was quite nauseous, I didn't hold this technicality against you in my ratings, but fix that and you have something that can go somewhere.
