LD24 — Evolution

Evolution Or Revolution by PTSnoop 2012-08-26T22:22:00

"Its Broken for Me :( Check The File Please?"

Hmm. I've given it a check, and it's working fine for me even after I uninstall the LOVE engine. When you say "its broken", are you getting an error message? Are you running it from the exe or the .love ?

Evolution Or Revolution by PTSnoop 2012-08-27T08:35:00

Hmm. Does anyone else have this problem?

Evolution Or Revolution by PTSnoop 2012-08-27T09:22:00

I've asked people on IRC to test the exe. It sounds like the problem's at your end, Jake.

What happens if you download the Love2D engine ( https://love2d.org/ ) and try running the .love instead of the .exe ?

The evolution games / unnatural selection by Andrew 2012-08-27T11:47:00

Aaaaaaah! Kittens!

LD25 — You are the Villain

Eaten by wzl 2012-12-19T11:42:00

Awesome sound effects and voice-acting (omnomnomnomnom). I'd have liked some way to stab shocked people, though. (And in the game...)

LD26 — Minimalism

Zenbox by drstik 2013-04-29T21:40:00

When you're starting a line, it's quite hard to make sure you're starting from the right direction. Slight changes often took longer than they could have done - slightly frustrating. But then, if I'm getting frustrated it's probably my own fault for not being Zen enough. :)

Apart from that, a very nice puzzle game! I like the vaguely Go-style aesthetic of the stones.

Centroid by daniel 2013-04-29T21:46:00

Neat idea, surprisingly intuitive once you get past the first few levels. I made it to Level 24.

Colourless by Puccini 2013-04-29T20:36:00

Very simple rules, that come together to create a really well-thought-out game. Quick to pick up, very difficult to put down.

Pixel Storm by Spanfile 2013-04-29T18:52:00

Took me a little while to realise you were supposed to kick the green-dome-things rather than just jumping over them. Also, it may be worth allowing other keypresses on the main menu, like Z or Return - I was mashing keys for some time until I found that Right selected things.

Blue by TheFudster 2013-04-29T21:33:00

There's a *lot* of content here for something made in 48 hours. It's good to see an LD game with some story!

.MONDR by Haette 2013-04-29T21:23:00

Nicely done. You've done a good job on animating the Mondrian style.

Z Jumper by Zaelza 2013-04-29T19:25:00

I love how nonchalant this game is about eternal evil. "Oh, btw..."

The red blocks didn't really affect gameplay all that much, since you always have more than enough health boxes. But great visual style, and well balanced difficulty (which isn't easy when you're procedurally generating levels, so nice one). Good game!

SpaceGeometry : The Arcade Version by metaldemon 2013-05-01T18:21:00

Nicely done. It's good to see a vertical-shmup that's not a bullet-hell shmup.

Just one slight possibly-bug, where the left and bottom sides of the screen have walls to keep you in the game area, but the right and top don't. I was able to keep flying off the top of the screen indefinately. But still, there's a surprising amount of polish here for an LD game, with the intro sequence, the music, and the health and shield bars animatedly flying in. Good game!

Dungeon of the Rectangles by antonijn 2013-05-01T19:04:00

Very atmospheric. I often found it quite tricky to see where I was being shot at from - clearly I've got too used to having directional you've-been-shot-from-over-here markers. But good game!

Minimalism by Kwrky 2013-05-01T18:12:00

You do a great job here of gradually introducing ideas, constantly challenging but never overwhelming the player. And what's more, you somehow manage to pull it off with only one key! Incredibly well done.

unessential by voxel 2013-05-01T18:37:00

The final boss and I managed to exactly match each other's moves for quite a while there, it felt a lot like two masters who were able to counter one another perfectly. Very impressive game!

KeepTheMusicAlive by iamorim 2013-04-29T19:31:00

This game got a lot easier once I realised I could just keep constantly clicking at the centre of the screen, and just use A and D to spin around. I'd have liked to have kept alive some more complex music than just those drumbeats. But overall, pretty good!

beTween by Benn 2013-05-01T19:47:00

Very well put together. A very simple idea, with a lot of depth behind it.

MOTHBOTS by terrivellmann 2013-04-29T17:54:00

Good game, *really* good visual design. I love how the shadows give you so more idea of what the enemies look like than what you can actually see of them.

OggOrbis by Michael Hall 2013-04-29T20:20:00

The gameplay felt like more trial-and-error than skill, but the graphics and music gave it a good relaxing atmosphere. I'd have liked to have seen the credits for longer - did I see "Velociraptor Control" on the list?

potential energy generator by rsodre 2013-04-29T19:09:00

On the first two levels, after a few seconds of reaction-time-testing, I managed to get into a rhythmic mindset where I could predict pretty much exactly when the changes were going to happen. Then the star happened. Well, so much for that approach then.

Ludum lupus by Yozz 2013-04-29T20:24:00

Great graphics (including character animation), great atmosphere. I'd have liked a longer storyline.

Cylinder by Jacqueslelezard 2013-05-01T18:11:00

Very neat idea, one that I'd love to see fleshed out into a larger game.

Just a few minor annoyances - I'd have liked Q and E as the rotation controls rather than R and T, but there wasn't any way to remap those. I felt the rotating and walking speeds were a bit slow, (although I can understand why you'd want a more calm relaxed atmosphere). And although the glowy aesthetic looks great, the edges of objects aren't very clear - which is something that would really help with the first-person jumping around.

But yeah, on the whole, a great idea! Let me know if you make a bigger game out of this.

Terminally ill by Sebastian 2013-04-29T18:04:00

So not satisfied with making one game in 48 hours, you managed to make about seven... Nice one.

And the rapid-multitasking was both fun, and played nicely into the mood of the game. Not so keen on the generally depressing theme, but you still managed to convey it well.

Blockade by Inf 2013-04-29T20:10:00

Neat little strategy game. As far as I could tell, the dominant strategy was just to sit on the back row and snipe at the other player, waiting for them to come closer. But still, the visuals and the audio add up to an unexpectedly atmospheric game.

raveGRID by sick 2013-04-29T19:40:00

I had the same problem as a few other people - I thought the green example guy was the target, and got confused. Also, I managed to make things quite a lot easier by standing a long way away from the city yelling "I'm focussed! Come and get me!", then darting past the crowd of reds and searching the crowd with impunity.

But on the plus side, very distinctive visuals, nicely balanced difficulty (my sneaky tactics notwithstanding), and a great style of gameplay that I wish we saw more of in LDs. Nice work!

Bezier Challenge by Travis Irby 2013-05-01T19:29:00

Although it's only possible to drag things inside the blue area, it is possible to drag one of the handles attached to a point, then drag the point itself, such that the handle is actually quite a long way outside the blue area. You can get quite extreme curves this way; not sure if it's intended behaviour, but the game still works. And a very interesting game it is!

Procedural Island Happiness by nonatomicpaul 2013-04-30T19:35:00

Quite an intriguing toy-thing. Is it a game? I'll let the experts debate that one. :)

Touch Blocks, Avoid Spikes by ecbambrick 2013-04-29T21:15:00

Interesting combination of puzzle-game and reflex-platformer. The 3D effect confused me at first as to which square I was actually on, though. But very nice aesthetics!

Flingler by Folis 2013-05-01T19:10:00

Like some other people, I had some clipping problems when slicing the rope. I found it generally worked best when I moved the mouse slowly or not at all, instead of going with my instincts and flailing wildly. But apart from that slight niggle, a very fun game! I'd love to see a longer post-LD version.

Where is Pixel by ananasblau 2013-05-01T19:33:00

Hooray!

Lots of potential here, I'd love to see a more fleshed-out post-LD edition.

Balls Balls Balls by matthias_zarzecki 2013-05-01T19:19:00

There's a *lot* of content here.

Just one glitch - I somehow managed to get a ball rolling so fast that it clipped outside the screen at one point. But apart from that, great game!

Metaballs by Rialgar 2013-04-29T18:35:00

Wow, I may have just burned through half an hour playing this game. Very gripping - there's much more depth to this game than the minimal rules would suggest!

Just one qualm - since you can only spawn metaballs one at a time, once one player has got several balls in the arena it gets very difficult for the other player to regain the lead. It's pretty easy for one player to monopolise the extra resource drops, and once they've got control of those extra resources they are even more able to maintain their lead over the other player. But having said that, still a great game, and it's given me plenty of things to think about for my own strategy game-making in the future!

Prism by Sanguine 2013-05-01T18:31:00

Ooh, interesting idea. I'd imagine it'd be pretty difficult for people without background knowledge of colour theory, though.

I occasionally got a few strange hard-cutoff edge effects on the 2D controls, if I dragged the circle right to the edges - possible minor-bug there. But well done for pulling off minimalist visuals without looking like programmer-art!

Cubique Noire by Detocroix 2013-04-29T21:04:00

My favourite game of LD so far. I'm trying to think of *something* negative to say about this game, and I can't. I love it!

Space Captant by Norgg 2013-05-01T19:01:00

Newtonian physics? Deformable terrain? Interplanetary orbital mechanics? This game's got it all. And that moment when you repair your ship and the *whole Potato Zone* opens up for you is classic. Loved it!

Minimum by jlm 2013-05-01T18:13:00

I had a few issues with the collision detection, but apart from that, very nicely done. The world needs more puzzle/stealth games!

TunnelVision by wzl 2013-05-01T18:47:00

Nvidia GTX 670, the player ship is always solid white, and the gems are mostly solid-white with a few occasional suggestions of yellow. But apart from that, worked fine for me, and brought back fond memories of similar shareware games I used to play as a teenager. Very fun game!

Cutato by Jalict 2013-04-29T21:07:00

Aah! Slow down! Aaah!

But yeah, apart from that, good game. Nice distinctive visual style.

MiniFPX by KhaoTom 2013-05-01T18:12:00

Nicely atmospheric, and a style of game I was hoping to see more of in this LD. I like how the black/white swapping makes some blocks much more easy to see making death a tool to be used. Nice one!

RogueOut by badlydrawnrod 2013-04-29T20:03:00

I'd have liked to have seen a bit more roguelike-gameplay. But still, I love the concept! Good gameplay, and I love the voice-acting. (And good text-rendering, which always makes more difference than you'd think.) Nice one!

Seventh World Problems by N427 2013-04-29T19:01:00

Okay, I hadn't come across r/seventhworldproblems before. The world is a very strange place...

On a more on-topic note, good game. Challenging, and a little confusing in places, but nicely atmospheric.

134 bytes by amodo 2013-05-01T19:49:00

But is it a game?

...actually, I'll leave that question to the academics.

Everybody Hates the Potatoes in the Magic Kingdom by kulhajs 2013-04-29T18:44:00

Diagonal movement would have been useful. The difficulty curve also seemed pretty steep, but that's not always a bad thing. Oh, and some instructions telling you to grab items from the enemies would have been useful - I spent a little while just circling one enemy, wondering if something was going to happen. But yeah, good game!

MiniSim by jolle 2013-04-29T20:43:00

How did you... and the... and even... in the... and only in 48... but... and... I'm speechless! And you're awesome!

LD27 — 10 Seconds

Gravity Spy by PaidGEEK 2013-08-26T10:50:00

Very nicely done. The gravity-switching mechanic takes a little while to get used to, but I love the way you gradually introduce it. And the music and graphical style both really help create the mood.

TSHIF by rustybroomhandle 2013-08-26T10:24:00

Yeah, I agree - some sort of checkpointing would be a very good thing. And it felt like the difficulty curve was a little shallow - it took a while to get onto the harder levels. But then the later ones do require much more rapid thought to meet the Ten Seconds requirement, so I can actually see why you've done it this way... Either way, good game!

A Square Of Space And Time by PTSnoop 2013-09-01T18:42:00

Thanks for the comments, everyone!

And thanks for letting me know about the right click thing, porglezomp and Metatheos. I've made Metatheos's fix, so that shouldn't be a problem any longer. :)

PAC MANy by namuol 2013-08-27T21:38:00

Very well polished, and a very neat core concept. Glad to hear you're planning on carrying on working on this game!

10 Second Tower Defense by BenW 2013-08-27T21:24:00

Wait, you actually made a #LDTD game? You're the first one I've seen... Difficult, but fun.

Infinite Loop by Blizzil 2013-08-27T19:06:00

My high score: 94. Always good to see more shmups in Ludum Dare!

Launch_0xa by CarbonCoder 2013-08-29T20:47:00

I was getting a flickery border to the window - not sure if this was intended? The intro was very slow, but once I got into the game, it was actually pretty gripping. It's surprising how much of a difference just adding a timer can make to something...

Ridiculous Chess by Natman 2013-08-27T22:04:00

Playing chess against yourself is surprisingly tricky... From the name, though, I was expecting the chess to be a bit more ridiculous. Ah well! :)

Space TimeX10 by Sh1rogane 2013-08-26T09:04:00

Good to see more shmups in Ludum Dare. At first, I was a little annoyed by the "we have just developed a time machine" message always being the same - but then I realised it's always the same point in time, so of course it'd be the same message. Good game!

No more Fuel ! by paraple-geek 2013-08-26T09:22:00

I'd have liked a way to get a fallen-over spaceship on a planet the right way up again. But apart from that, a very gripping game!

Swervv by Dell 2013-08-26T18:20:00

The music and art style worked very well together. I'd have liked a little more of a gradual buildup of difficulty, though - it seemed like things stayed pretty constant throughout. But good game!

Tiny Petards by raver 2013-08-26T10:35:00

A very good game. The difficulty curve was very well judged - carefully introduces everything, but doesn't take too long before moving onto the interesting difficult levels. Very well done!

You have 10 seconds! by demiurgo 2013-08-26T17:13:00

Interesting idea. The first five seconds of each round seemed a bit pointless, though - since you only find out later which letter to match. But nice game!

Worst Gnome at the Factory by Crowbeak 2013-08-27T21:15:00

I don't know why I love this game so much, but I do. The first game this LD to make me actually laugh out loud!

10 by Benn 2013-08-27T21:09:00

Frustratingly difficult, and I'm not sure what it's got to do with the theme. But still, a very fun game. Had me gripped for quite a while there.

Audenary by Andrio 2013-08-26T11:53:00

Just wondering - does clicking have any gameplay effect, or is it just there for the sound? Either way, I love this game!

The Aliens Came (10 seconds to choose) by porglezomp 2013-08-26T15:59:00

Well written - which isn't something I often find myself saying with LD games. And the artwork works really well. Just one thing, though - the Unity web player doesn't work on Linux, so a separate build would be useful.

Run You Fool, You're Gonna Miss Your Train! by tiagosr 2013-08-27T19:17:00

What there is is good. But (like other commenters) I'd like to see more levels... will we be seeing a post-jam version?

10 Second Topple by Travis Irby 2013-08-27T20:24:00

I'm trying to think of something - anything - negative to say. And I can't. My favourite game of this Ludum Dare!

Mission Improbable by L0gicaL1nsanity 2013-08-27T17:51:00

Not the most complex of game ideas, but well presented - nice graphics, good atmosphere. Just one thing, though - the score gets carried over across multiple playthroughs. Is this intended?

Crazy Genetist by ratalaika 2013-08-26T10:16:00

Sometimes I was getting "Game Over" and it wasn't entirely clear why. But it's still the sort of game that, when you lose, demands "just one more go...". Good game!

Canvas10 by Naked_Samurai 2013-08-26T17:17:00

Intriguing idea. It's a shame my graphics tablet didn't really cooperate with this game, though... :)

Scorpio 10 by javifugitivo 2013-08-26T08:58:00

The letter W from font chosen made me keep parsing "Firewall" as "Firew all". But apart from that, a good (if tricky) game, that actually fits the theme really well. Nice one!

10 Seconds Match by Tavibo 2013-08-27T19:38:00

I was a little confused by the mouse pointer on the menu at first - I assumed the game was going to be about igniting things with the mouse. But once I got into the game proper, I liked it a lot. The music and art style work very well together to build an atmosphere.

Flash of Light by apaneske 2013-08-27T19:12:00

I agree with the others, more levels would be good. But as is, still a good game!

Adventures of Schrodinger's cat by Cryunreal 2013-08-27T19:30:00

Incredibly well polished for an LD game! I love the graphical style - although ten seconds is a frustratingly short time limit for some of those levels. But very well done!

Dance Instructor by st33d 2013-08-26T10:27:00

Short and to the point.

BeQuick by nandor 2013-08-29T20:39:00

At first, I was expecting to have to colour myself orange somehow (maybe by mixing colours together?) to be able to complete this game - as such, just having a get-to-this-point-to-win cloud doesn't seem to quite fit with the rest of the game as much as it could have done (imo). On the plus side, having to juggle multiple things at once (the chasing-cloud, the timer, the colour-finding) keep this game nice and challenging, without being overwhelming. Well done!

Labyten by rejome 2013-08-27T20:43:00

Very good game, had me hooked for quite a while. (Are those procedurally generated mazes?)

Just one thing, though - although I can see you've put a lot of work into the music, the rapid flicking between different tracks was a bit offputting. In the end, I ended up just loading all the tracks into a media player and playing them on shuffle instead...

Ten Seconds To Home by MrSecretUnlock 2013-08-26T17:03:00

Well written, and fits the theme very well. I kinda got stuck though - I found the medical dart, but I never found any injured, dead or dying people anywhere in Time to use it on, and never saw anything else useful. Did I miss something?

Amazing Abs in just 10 seconds by vvolis 2013-08-26T11:17:00

For such a simple game, actually surprisingly addictive. I'd have liked to have seen a Linux build, though - the Unity web player doesn't work on Linux.

Brainwash by ShitAndSon 2013-08-27T19:23:00

Intriguing graphical style. It wasn't all that clear what the win/lose conditions were, though - is it Game Over after a timer, or after you fail to shoot a certain number of pills?

Popping Bubbles by Fififox 2013-08-27T21:58:00

Nice simple concept. I agree with 31eee314 - multitouch support would be very neat. Although I disagree with pbdiode - to me, the countdown timer looked big enough, and the instructions in the description are clear enough already.

Just one thing - the game difficulty seemed dependent on the aspect ratio. I started out in a vaguely-square window and found the game very difficult, but then switched fullscreen 1920x1080 seemed much easier. I did a bit more research and found that I can drag my window into a long thin horizontal rectangle, and make the circles spawn so far apart that they'll never touch each other. But if I drag the window into a tall thin vertical rectangle, I don't have a hope. Just something to think about!

BLAM BLAM PLANET by ratking 2013-08-29T20:29:00

Well, that was... topologically interesting. And I'm amazed you guys managed to get so much done in just 72 hours! Nice one!

10X10 by triplefox 2013-08-27T20:30:00

The controls take quite a lot of getting used to. But I suppose for a multiplayer game, that's not necessarily a bad thing. Very neat game!

Yin: A Game About Happiness by Sanguine 2013-08-27T19:54:00

In the world of Ludum Dare, so often full of danger, angst and loneliness, it's good to see a game that's so unashamedly *happy*. Nice one!

Weakening Paddle by Wukkopi 2013-08-26T16:03:00

Does what it says on the tin. An old idea, but a good idea.

Concave 8 by Taugeshtu 2013-08-27T22:15:00

Well, I managed to escape from the cube... although I think I may have done it in a slightly unintended way, by just jumping out of the nearest window to coordinate 13, and then watching the walls flicker past as I plummet to my eventual doom. Very interesting aesthetic, though!

LD28 — You Only Get One

Time Splitters by NeiloGD 2013-12-18T19:21:00

I'd have liked some way to zoom back in onto the dates card - and read through the descriptions of the dates through history that you've chosen / written. But yeah, you really should make a physical version, it'd work really well as a board game!

Fujo by TheSheep 2013-12-18T19:43:00

The player sprite doesn't always stand out clearly against the background - at the start of each level, I had to look around quite a bit to try to find her. But apart from that, I love the graphics! Always good to see roguelikes in LD.

Vega Core by PTSnoop 2013-12-18T18:58:00

kristoffer: Ah, I see what you mean. I've made the same mistake as last LD and released a 64-bit Windows version...

I've now replaced the Windows link with a 32-bit build, so it should hopefully work on all Windows machines now.

Matchbox by Sos 2013-12-18T20:22:00

It's amazing how much atmosphere you can get from just three colours. Great artwork!

Azimuth Zero by Joror 2013-12-18T18:55:00

The controls felt a little imprecise at times - maybe some visual feedback when you mouse-over things would be nice. On the plus side - this is a very detailed strategy game! There's a lot of depth in there for a 48hr game (although you may want to force people through the Help text on first playthrough, because without it you'll be very confused.) Nice one!

Make Tetrominoes! by Crowbeak 2013-12-18T20:14:00

I love the sound effects! Although the words "click" and "shunk" have now lost whatever scraps of meaning they may have once had for me. Click shunk click shunk click click shunk.

Hope for an Audible Future by Benn 2013-12-17T19:48:00

Short and to the point, although it took me a little while to get used to the controls. Held my interest for much longer than I thought it would, though - it has a nice "just one more round" quality to it. (High score: 8!)

Chocolate Clicker by Yoni 2013-12-19T19:58:00

Definitely the most literal take on the theme I've seen so far... :P

You only get one pixel by Folis 2013-12-18T09:53:00

Nicely done! This is the sort of interesting-code-thing I wish we saw more of in Ludum Dare. (And hey, who says it's not a game?)

Candy Runner by AtomicVikings 2013-12-19T20:19:00

As one of the hordes of people who don't read the description, I assumed at first that the input-detection wasn't working properly. I'd have liked the key-changes to be a bit more visually obvious, maybe another popup in the middle of the screen or something. On the plus side, the music and the distinctive graphical style work very well together!

You Only Get One Bullet by Beardo Games 2013-12-19T20:11:00

I was much happier when I found out you could pick up your bullet and use it again. Just goes to show I should have read the description... Good game!

Single-Shot Space Hero: Adventures Through Time and Space; Encounters With The Green Worms of the Edgeworth-Kuiper Belt Planetoid Quaoar by mutilator 2013-12-19T20:31:00

Very unforgiving gameplay, I found myself hiding in the corners of the screen more often than not...

Element Fighter by smash ball 2013-12-17T20:21:00

A very complex game for a 48 hour game jam, with multiple different types of AI, artwork for different spaceships, particle-effect physics, and even a perk system. Very well done!

The ruling party by kristoffer zetterberg 2013-12-17T20:36:00

I feel like I should mention here that, over the LD28 weekend, I coded my LD entry while on the train to and from a reunion with friends. Yay for eating cake and having it too!

But yeah, nicely atmospheric. I'm not sure the repetition of the intro helps the narrative, but once you get past that point the game does a good job of drawing you in.

Monochrome by anapff 2013-12-17T19:57:00

Nice interpretation of the theme. The platforming physics felt a little over-responsive, though - and the character had a tendency to keep moving when jumping, even if you'd taken your finger off the arrow key.

Unicycle Messenger by Sanguine 2013-12-17T21:05:00

The soundtrack and graphical style really served together to create a good atmosphere. One or two minor quibbles (I got stuck on buildings a few times, and I'm not sure what it is that You Only Get One of... wheels on your unicycle?) but overall, a very good game.

little half squat by omaha 2013-12-17T20:08:00

Not much challenge to this game - and I'm not entirely sure how it fits in with the theme. On the plus side, very nice music and sound effects! Kept me playing for quite a lot longer than I would have done otherwise, just listening to the music.

(Also, small bug report - when the character runs forwards, he follows the curvature of the planet, but when he runs backwards, he stays at his current height, and only drops down onto the planet when you let go of the down key. Just thought I'd mention!)

One Take by Sheepolution 2013-12-17T20:46:00

A great take on the theme. I'd love to see a longer post-compo version!

LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Game of Roots by BubuIIC 2014-04-29T18:19:00

Depthscore: 399. And this game certainly has a lot more depth than I first expected - in several senses of the word.

It took me a little while to get used to judging what grid square my root end was in. A root that's just moved down one square looks a bit like it's only gone halfway down - which caught me out at first, I would occasionally overshoot and then find I was too low down and couldn't move back up again. But once I got used to that, I really enjoyed this game. Well done!

Read Between the Tropes by Crowbeak 2014-04-29T11:09:00

Very well written. I think the series-of-tropes approach did a good job of getting lots of story-per-word into this game. [TropesAreNotBad] indeed!

Just one minor quibble. In the [FinalBattle] at the end of the Mech Pilot plotline, you've averted the [TwoDSpace] trope ("think of the enemy's line as down") - but still the enemy line is a *line*. In proper 3D space combat, I'd expect to see an equivalent enemy *plane*. But this is me being incredibly picky - and I'm only mentioning this because up until that point I'd managed to hold such a clear mental picture of what was going on. Well done!

Hide Them by Yacodo 2014-04-29T18:25:00

This game's got a nice vaguely-Lemmings-ish feel to it. Good game!

Torch by DarknessFades 2014-05-06T18:13:00

Very nice graphics, and the music in the post-compo version really helps to make this a very atmospheric game. I'd have liked to have seen some more platforms to jump onto, though - since you can't see much of the screen, I found myself searching through lots of nothing before I could find the way forwards. I'm also not entirely sure what the exclamation marks were meant to represent. But still, a game mechanic with lots of potential.

Bionic Hotdog by Daniel X. Moore 2014-05-06T18:19:00

Well, that was... an experience.

LD30 — Connected Worlds

Connecting LD30 to the Real World by Will Edwards 2014-08-26T09:47:00

Ooh, intriguing. It took me a little while to figure out how to navigate, I was expecting to drag the map rather than just clicking on it. But apart from that, great work!

Lorries In SPAAAAACE! by AtkinsSJ 2014-08-28T20:51:00

I was slightly expecting prices to change in response to your actions - once a planet's recieved a shipload of kryptonite chunks, they've now got a greater supply, so won't pay so much for the next batch. This might add some difficulty once you've got over the initial hurdle of setting up some profitable trade routes - something for a post-compo version, maybe? But as is, still a very enjoyable trade sim!

Crowded Street by PTSnoop 2014-08-25T15:05:00

Norgg: I've reuploaded the Windows version, with a second exe (CrowdedStreet_lowres.exe) that runs in 1024x600. Hopefully this'll fit on your screen!

Visibility by Flyinpig5 2014-08-25T13:04:00

I love the lighting effect! I felt like I never had enough lights, though. Very challenging - even before the menacing spikes were added... Not entirely sure what it's got to do with the theme, but still a good game!

Split//Maze by sol_hsa 2014-08-28T19:13:00

This is definitely one of those why-didn't-I-think-of-that game ideas. Good concept, well polished. Good game!

Circular Logic by Benn 2014-08-25T12:29:00

Now you're thinking with... polar coordinates! Very neat idea, well executed. Good game!

Transmission by ljdp 2014-08-25T11:51:00

I love this game! I think there's real potential here for a more complex-strategic post-compo version - and I'd love to see one.

Space Pioneers by Vudu 2014-08-28T21:13:00

Very graphically detailed for an LD entry... I'd have preferred a slightly faster pace, once I'd got the enemy surrounded and outgunned it still took quite a while for their inevitable demise. Good gameplay idea, though!

Deconstructiclicker by megaelliott 2014-08-28T22:30:00

Not too high on Innovation - but still well put together. Great animal animations!

Legacy of Lamas by Cell 2014-08-28T18:59:00

Alterned Realities by Norfinel 2014-08-25T12:39:00

That was... very tricky. I'd have liked to have seen a much shallower difficulty curve - maybe building up the number of enemies gradually over time, rather than throwing loads of you from the word go. Good game idea, though!

Space Delver by commodoreKid 2014-08-26T22:16:00

Very nice sketchy art style - and a lot of detail's gone into the gameplay, even for a a Jam entry. A little slow-paced, maybe, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Nice one!

Back to Earth! by AlexGhost 2014-08-25T11:39:00

Nice idea. The controls were a bit disorienting - it felt like the stars in the background didn't really give feedback as to whether you were moving or not, they just kept the same velocity relative to the player ship. Most things were moving in different directions relative to each other, making navigation quite tricky. But apart from that, a good game!

Between by Majko 2014-08-25T12:19:00

That's an incredibly polished UI you've got there. I'd have liked a faster time setting though - I was spending a lot of time just waiting for money to come in. But a surprisingly gripping game!

Bolt by pxlcoder 2014-08-25T12:48:00

Very polished for a 48hr game! The music was a bit repetitive, and I'd have liked the menu animations to have been a little faster - but the game itself is very good.

You Are Bactera by w84death 2014-08-25T13:11:00

An intriguing little simulation. Not sure what aim it has, if any (does that make it a toy rather than a game?), but still fun to play around with.

One thing worth saying, though, since it was annoying me - "bacterium" is the singular of "bacteria". One bacterium, two bacteria. Not "a bacteria", not "bacterias". (Sorry for being a pedant!)

Benn's Adventure by sorceress 2014-08-25T12:32:00

This one's not downloading properly for me. I get a zip file with the folder "sorceress - LD30 - Benn's adventure" inside it, but that folder appears to be empty. Could you repackage/reupload it, please?

...And may we have some source code? :)

FACED by Sheepolution 2014-08-26T09:12:00

This is one of those concepts that... just makes so much sense, given the theme. I love it!

Pulley Planet by Patacorow 2014-08-27T12:04:00

Very good graphics. I'd have liked a bit more of a difficulty curve - but then, you already know about that from the other comments. Still a good game!

LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Center of the Sun by Cyros 2014-12-08T19:28:00

Hi score: 167. It's surprising how much of a difference that motion-blur effect makes - it makes the whole game feel much more polished.

I'd have liked some sort of "Level 2" message or something similar when the balls started curving, though. I had a brief moment of "Wait, what just happened? Did I die, then my spacebar-mashing skipped the menu and started a new game?" - something a little less abrupt would have made things a bit clearer for me.

Farm Invaders! by Reyn 2014-12-08T19:51:00

That was a surprisingly gripping game. I like the minimalist graphical style. I'd have liked some clearer instructions, though - I died one of each type of death before working out what the purple cubes were. Unless that's deliberate, and you're meant to work things out for yourself? Either way, good game!

One Screen Many Jumps by Natura-Time 2014-12-08T20:17:00

I had a few input problems with this game - apparently if you're already going up+left, pressing space won't do anything (this caught me out a few times). Lots of potential here, though - especially if we had some sound effects.

Orbit Jumper by Luminar 2014-12-08T20:00:00

I agree with vekjeft - I'd have liked a map, to see where you are in relation to that diamond planet you found earlier when you didn't have enough coins to build a diamond extractor. Not entirely sure how it fits in with the theme, either. I like the physics, though!

Squint Maze by AlSweigart 2014-12-08T20:03:00

My eyes! My eyes!!

Council of Smiles by MatthewHolland 2014-12-08T20:11:00

Intriguing game idea! I'd have liked a longer game, though, so you have more of a chance to get to the smiley faces and learn to predict what they'll like and what they won't.

LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

Fighting Words by Clavus 2015-04-20T19:31:00

Typing with one hand is surprisingly tricky... Good game!

A Knife Made Of Whispers by managore 2015-04-20T19:54:00

Very atmospheric, and good gameplay. Although the two do come into conflict occasionally - considering that this lantern contains/represents the [SPOILER] of your [SPOILER SPOILER], you do spend a lot of time flinging it across the landscape...

Reap What You Sow by FireCamp 2015-04-20T19:16:00

Short and to the point!

All we need now are a bunch more levels... maybe some other colours of slimes that interact in a rock-paper-scissors kind of system?

An Alien Sniper by PaulJs 2015-04-20T20:04:00

I had trouble with this one... After successfully sniping about three aliens, the framerate when targetting dropped to about 1fps. At this speed, the alien moved roughly its body length per frame, which - combined with the input lag - made it very difficult to hit. Swapping from Chrome to Firefox didn't make any difference.

It looks like this game's got lots of potential... shame my PC didn't like it. :(

LD33 — You are the Monster

Frankenstein's Monsters, Inc. by AtkinsSJ 2015-08-24T17:42:00

My thoughts:

- I kinda feel like all those hospitals built in the endgame should have had some effect on the rate of body part acquisition... :P
- I was struggling to read the text in the top-right box - it might be worth moving the monster's head down a bit, so the light text is on a darker background.
- Also, it might have been worth giving monster workers some advantage or disadvantage over human workers - at the moment, as I understand it, 4 monsters = 1 human, so there's not really any situation where you'd choose monster workers over human ones (unless you're not getting any applicants because of public outrage, but I never had any problems there).
- On the plus side, the difficulty curve seemed just right - not so simple as to have an obvious cookie-clicker "right answer" the first time round, but not so opaque that us players have no hope of figuring the system out. Which in this sort of game is a tricky balance to hit, so well done!

On the Growth of Ludum Dare and the Selection of Themes by Crowbeak 2015-08-24T19:14:00

Orange Squares...Beware! by Benn 2015-08-24T18:31:00

Very good game... not sure how it fits in with the theme, though!

Je Suis Monster by flimshaw 2015-08-27T18:30:00

Truly, the most beautiful crush-all-the-cars game I think I've ever seen...

Carewolf by Sheepolution 2015-08-24T19:43:00

I, too, tried for a everybody-lives second playthrough. (And I, too, would have liked some sort of "congratulations!" message. Ah well!)

LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

S.E.N.T.I.N.E.L. by rnlf 2015-12-15T19:51:00

I get the feeling I'm going to have to delve into the source code here, just to get my head around how you managed to make Love2D act like *that*. Good game!

LD38 — A Small World

Signal? by voxel 2017-05-16T19:27:05Z

The timey-wimey puzzle mechanics go really well together with the slightly-broken-VCR theme - and I like how the level design gradually introduces you to each of the mechanics. Very nicely done!

The Treachery of Game Dev by ratking 2017-05-16T19:56:17Z

Well, that was pleasingly meta.

I really like a lot of the small details here - the character animation, the subdued palette and music, the game controls being written on the very first wall you see... And that's before I even get started on the actual game itself. (Although which game is the actual one?...) I really want to see a longer version of this game now, maybe with a giant coded snake rampaging through the small world with reckless abandon because someone forgot to set an upper bound on a for loop. Good game!

Wrong Delivery by g12345 2017-05-16T20:01:57Z

I spent far too long time at the start of the game mashing my keyboard, trying to work out which key was Jump. :P

Abyss by srakowski 2017-05-13T08:58:43Z

Turns out making numbers get bigger is surprisingly satisfying!

Krilgor by Sheepolution 2017-05-16T20:11:58Z

The game told me to give you a message.

Sheeptell.png

But apart from that - very good game. Had me gripped from the "Just kidding, I don't have an inventory". :P

Transistor Soup by stuntddude 2017-05-16T18:51:49Z

Wow - did you make a Zachlike in 72 hours? I'm very impressed!

(If I were being picky, I'd ask for a Reset Level button, or complain about how easy it is to draw lines underneath things without realising it, or talk about how easy it is to miss the piece you're trying to click on and end up dragging a big wobbly wire across your diagram instead of dragging a logic gate. But that would be very unreasonable of me, considering how much you've managed to pack into this game in so short a time. Good game!)

Hugely Unpopular President Simulator by CliffracerX 2017-05-16T18:36:15Z

I kept falling off the edge of the world. (I bet real presidents don't have this sort of problem...) But mindless destruction is always fun!

Earth Invaders by MrGussio 2017-05-16T18:40:37Z

Short and to-the-point. I like it!

Snoozle Pooz by mathijs750 2017-05-16T21:02:51Z

I like this take on the theme. (And the meowing soundtrack!)

Path of the Rabbit by managore 2017-05-16T19:10:15Z

Not half as simple as it looks. I spent far too long banging my head against this one, and I still didn't make it past "30 blocks remaining". (...Just one more try...)

Quantum Frustum by nusan 2017-05-13T09:17:53Z

I'd have liked a Sprint button - walking from building to building felt like it took quite a bit of time. Or maybe I'm just impatient :P

I love the fuzzy-edged quantum uncertainty visual effect!

Small World Mining Company by paulhocker 2017-05-13T13:08:04Z

Nice game. Although it might be worth randomising the resource placements when each level loads - after completing a level, I was able to remember what tiles had things underneath them, so the second time through was much easier.

Defense Against the Giants by mango-malarkey 2017-05-16T20:46:24Z

Not entirely sure how this one fits in with the theme - but good graphics and good gameplay!

rocket ship by Zirrrus 2017-05-13T09:24:58Z

There is a third option! As well as "flung into the cold emptiness of space" and "crash after half a second", there's also "launch at about 45 degrees, loop around in a nice sweeping cardioid-shaped not-quite-orbit and collect all the things". Good game!

Mr. UN and the small world village by JulianMH 2017-05-16T20:20:14Z

Nice game. Not too challenging, but it's surprisingly satisfying just painting the world blue.

Of Course I Remember You! by GaiusJulius 2017-05-13T09:30:03Z

I had some trouble getting the download versions to work - the exe file needs the rest of the Love2D dlls in order to run. I tried delving into the .love file to find out what version of Love2D it was made for (I've got several installed), but the conf.lua file didn't say - which version should I be using?

The web version works fine, though. And I love the voice acting! (Che bo boeyyy! Hwibobohh!)

Entropy by SleepyStudios 2017-05-16T20:36:55Z

Wait, did you just basically make an MMO for Ludum Dare?

...How??

I'm very impressed!

Cell Defender by Kreur 2017-05-13T09:15:21Z

There's a nice balance between maneuvering your minions around versus not getting penned in by them all and unable to move. I definitely think there's scope for a much bigger strategy game here.

Is there a game ending at the moment, by the way? I killed all the pathogens and then just spent time rolling around to see if I'd missed any. Is there a Game Over screen?

Crustal by Coffee Bland 2017-05-13T09:20:38Z

Good graphics, and good gameplay. The difficulty level does ramp up very quickly, though!

Little Wild Invasion by Titangea 2017-05-16T20:57:09Z

Very unforgiving gameplay! It took me quite a few deaths before I felt like I had much of an idea as to what was going on. But very good graphics, and it fits the theme nicely!

Pond of Doom by symmsaur 2017-05-13T13:15:42Z

Nice game - it took me a while to get the hang of how the physics worked, but I enjoyed it after that point!

Just one thing, though - repeatedly tapping the up arrow triggers the flapflapflap sound effect regardless of whether the sound effect's already playing. It'd be an improvement if it just kept going "flapflapflapflapflapflapflapflapflap" rather than "flapflflaflplflFLAFLPFFASJQKLHHHHHH".

Quantum World by Paul Nadan 2017-05-13T09:12:29Z

Well, that was... tricky. It took me quite a while to get my head around what the hint for Level 2 meant, but once I got my head around it through lots of trial-and-error it made quite a bit more sense. Eagerly awaiting those extra levels!

Let's Be Happy in Our Small World by Tuomo 2017-05-13T13:01:20Z

The music and artwork really help tie together the mood for this one. (Should there be a rating for Audio for this game? I feel like there probably should...)

My Other World by Formona 2017-05-16T20:31:02Z

Definitely the best artwork I've seen this LD!

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

HELIRESCUE MENS by voxel 2017-12-18T14:16:29Z

I think I found a bug. If you pick up all the remaining mens but then crash your helicopter, then your helicopter will respawn on the same level but there won't be any mens left on the map. So you won't be able to progress to the next level.

Apart from that - a very good game. I'd never have guessed it was done in two hours!

Cloak and Dagger by PTSnoop 2017-12-11T09:15:27Z

@Azathothep: For the Windows download, there should be a CloakAndDagger.exe in the root of the zip file.

LD42 — Running out of space

Mitosis by Zirrrus 2018-08-26T12:56:04Z

I'd have liked the ability to pan around the map - there are a few hexes hidden away behind the score / player marker which can't really be seen but are still playable spaces. A very nice game, though - there's a surprising amount of strategy once you start thinking about how to really play optimally. Good game!

LD46 — Keep it alive

Eggcelerate by TimBeaudet 2020-04-25T06:59:15Z

This one's a really fun game! At first I was like "wait, what do you mean, 'good luck catching the egg?'" ...and then I hit the jump and was like "oh, now I get it". I especially like the failed-lap fried eggs on the track, even if they do show just how many times I misjudged that first corner! I would have liked some you-cut-a-corner feedback, but then and again it does stop people like me from knowing where you can cut corners and get away with it. A very good game!

Fade of Life by Sheepolution 2020-04-25T07:25:01Z

I had to delve into the source code just to find out how you did that fading-out effect :P I also especially liked the way the music suddenly shifted to ANGRY PIANO whenever you caught anyone. Just the right level of spooky vs funny!

Flame Keeper by codexus 2020-04-25T07:11:07Z

The background sound really helps sell the mood... and that's got to be the most detailed player character model I've ever seen in an LD!

L.D. Phone Home by tsjost 2020-04-25T06:38:30Z

I think I managed to gimbal-lock the satellite a few times there - I'd have preferred the satellite rotation controls to be more quaternion-ish rather than euler angles. It'd be more realistic, too, not having to have a big global Up and Down in space. But then again, it would make the WASD aiming more difficult... Also: I did like the tricky balancing act of keeping the satellite pointed at the sun versus actually trying to score points. Good game!

The Drown by Simon Rahnasto 2020-05-02T11:59:22Z

Well, that's got to be the most polished LD game I've ever seen... Were I being picky, I'd say something about the hot, or that the "Use WASD to move" message only lets you press S, which left me briefly wondering if my keyboard wasn't working properly. But I'm not being picky - and I loved the voice-acting, the story, the SHODAN-style voice effects, the breadth of weapon choices, and the whole half-tower-defence half-twin-stick-shooter design of the thing. Well done!

Beam Slinger by egawag 2020-05-09T17:40:04Z

Now this is a good game. Ever considered making a phone version? I bet it'd work well with a touchscreen...

Just one thing I'd have preferred - at the moment, when deactivated, the level-end portal looks quite a lot just like two asteroids. So it surprised me at first that I couldn't grapple off them. It might be worth either making them grapple-able, or making them look a bit less asteroid-like. I did like how Level 1 always starts off with an orb right in front of the player, though - as a good way of introducing them, it's a nice touch!

Lawn and Order by danflapjax 2020-05-02T11:03:31Z

Wow, I really like this one! I agree with graebor, this game does a really good job of gradually ramping up the difficulty while introducing new concepts.

StarShip Hamster by Maytch 2020-05-02T18:35:34Z

The turret controls were a bit floaty, though that might have been deliberate to make it a bit harder to aim. I love the concept - and the character animations!

Protect the Walnut! by Eduardo Yukio 2020-05-02T11:31:06Z

I think the problem I had with the jump physics was that the jump height depended too much on how long you hold the space bar. If you just tap the space bar, you don't jump very high at all - but if you hold it down for the whole jump, you jump almost four times as high. This sort of physics can work well if you're having to do lots of very small precise jumps, but it doesn't work as well if you need consistent big long jumps (as you often do in this game). And it doesn't fit well with a double-jump mechanic, since you want to keep holding the space bar down through the whole jump, but you also need to release it and press it again to trigger the second jump.

I'd have preferred something along the lines of: short tap gives you 75% of maximum jump height, slightly longer press gets you 100% jump height, and you've got time to release the key in time to press it again to trigger the double jump. If that makes sense!

Also: I love the walnut's bow tie :P

Passing Flame by FallingFlatStudios 2020-05-02T11:15:42Z

I was going to complain that the table confused me at first, by looking too much like just like another wall. But then I tried the post-jam version, and noticed that you'd basically fixed that, by just adding a lot more variety in the things you're walking around. So good work there!

Fencing Meka by Solweak 2020-04-25T07:39:06Z

I was okay with the platforms being hidden by the foreground, but I would have liked more contrast on the dark-grey-platforms-on-black-background. I could see them if I closed the curtains to remove screen-glare, but not otherwise. Apart from that, though, I really love the visual style. Very atmospheric!

Catch The Mouse keep it alive by GameOverMexico 2020-05-11T07:35:55Z

Now there's a face I've not seen in a long time... There's a lot early on that really does a good job of setting the tone of "this is meant to be this difficult". Good job!

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Build a Bridge by TimBeaudet 2020-10-24T09:18:44Z

When you called it a "skid-steer", you weren't kidding. Slipperiest dump truck I've ever driven!

I liked the low-poly graphics and visual style of the thing. I would have liked an end goal, though, or even just some more varied types of pickups around the place. Still enjoyed it though!

SNAKE SNAKE SNAKE by Sheepolution 2020-10-19T18:11:36Z

So many really nice touches in this game - the chromatic aberration on all the text, the screenshake when you hit something, the way even the music fits the theme, the way the menus and Game Over screen have the music just slightly muffled... I'm very tempted to spend a while delving through the source code and find out how you even do half of those things in Love2D. Plus, a very fun game!

Race Condition by pekuja 2020-10-19T17:56:08Z

Had a lot of fun with this one. Though apparently my former self is a terrible driver!

Another by kuro 2020-10-19T17:01:03Z

This game does a really good job of presenting the game mechanics without resorting to walls of text - and also a really good job of building up the atmosphere.

I was about to suggest adding some way of playing with arrow keys rather than just WASD - I ended up having to swap to using my right hand for the very hard final level in order to complete the thing. But then, I'm not sure what you'd use for a Q key, or how you'd present the alternative keyboard controls without complicating things. So it's probably better as is :P

Loop Cultist by udo 2020-10-24T09:05:40Z

Well, that was an interesting game! Made it to the end, but only after reading through the comments and finding out that Omega was the character I needed to pick up. Surprised that the cultist looked so dejected to make it out of the dungeon though!

I'd have liked to have seen more levels just playing around with the basic walls and doors - it feels like there's a lot you could do with those, and the walls kinda get dropped quickly in favour of unlocking different levels and new mechanics.

Crystal Racer by hunttis 2020-10-19T16:23:20Z

In a weird kind of way, reminds me a bit of Pac Man.

It might be worth adding in some times to beat - this one felt like a much better game once I started trying to beat @savvy-community 's high scores. Didn't quite manage to beat their time for Level 5, but I got pretty close (and matched or beat the others): CrystalRacerHighScores.png

Hyperbolic Space Fighters Extreme! by gingerBill 2020-10-24T17:03:05Z

Very nicely done. Just one downside - the nature of hyperbolic space means it's possible to effectively park off towards the edge, shoot towards the centre, and never get hit by any of the fragmented enemies. There's so much more space around the outside, so the likelihood of actually being hit by anything goes way down. Not sure how you'd fix this without breaking the geometry though!

Looper by brethudson 2020-10-24T09:22:48Z

I think I found an exploit - holding the space bar down!

Mad Wheel : Furry Maxster by squirrelsoft 2020-10-19T17:09:57Z

I'm still not sure whether these are giant hamsters, or tiny motorbikes...

I think the sound really helps sell this one - I love the juxtaposition of the baying croud against that poor injured-hamster squeak noise. My high score was 18053!

Operation Rewind by lilkrit 2020-10-19T16:36:30Z

I think the controls would feel much better if the character model was just moved down onto the surface of the ground, rather than hovering above it - as is, it's difficult to judge where in relation to the platforms you are, because there's such a big gap between you and them, which makes all the precision jumping very difficult. Graphically, though, very well put together!

Roller Riches by dxk2294 2020-10-24T08:15:23Z

At first I was worried about the lack of instructions when the game started up, but this game does a good enough job of presenting information throughout that it wasn't needed after all. Good game!

LUPINS by Psychedelia 2020-10-24T16:06:51Z

Well, that fitted the theme in a ...surprisingly good way. Those puns though!

Loop Room by Ninnec 2020-10-19T17:23:18Z

Had a lot of fun with this game, but I think I only really understood the turning control when I read your comment that "you are technically always moving towards portals", which made the whole movement system make a lot more sense. It might be worth adding in visual highlights of the portal you're currently travelling towards - that'd be a good subtle way of showing people what their arrow-key presses are actually doing. Good game!

LööpBöund by essarrgee 2020-10-19T17:13:05Z

As tech demos go, it's a surprisingly satisfying one - the milk physics in particular feels very nicely done.

STUCK IN ORBIT by Baiketsu 2020-10-24T16:34:11Z

There should probably be more of a time penalty for crashing - the roatation-speed boost from changing orbit encourages an approch of flinging yourself into the void as often as possible, since if you miss you don't really lose anything versus sitting patiently for a perfect alignment with the planet you actually want to get to. (Though the fling-yourself-to-repeated-fiery-deaths approach is a lot of fun - so maybe I'm wrong and it shouldn't be disncouraged?)

Stix by Sombrero Guy 2020-10-24T08:47:31Z

With that many trees, I'd have thought there would have been more sticks lying around... :P

INSIDE THE LOOP by aerloth 2020-10-24T08:37:30Z

That was really good! The audio did a really good job of setting the mood, and it feels so satisfying to jump off one platform and land perfectly on the other at a different 90-degrees angle. Felt much less satisfying to fumble the platform and go falling down into the edge-of-level cylinder, but oh well :P

There's some very clever level design in here as well - on the level with the four discrete gravity-directions, it turns out there are a lot more sneaky ways to get back on the main path than I first thought. All in all - thoroughly enjoyed this one!

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

El Canyonero by TimBeaudet 2021-05-06T19:21:25Z

My best time was 43 seconds - couldn't quite beat some of the other commenters. But yeah, I love the engine noises! Wobwobwobwobwobwobwobwobwob.

Also: I feel obligated to point out the typo "caynon" in the description. :P

Burry this… Thing by LeReveur 2021-05-14T20:23:15Z

No, *you* are the monster. This game is evil.

And yet, surprisingly addictive...

not a gaem by euske 2021-05-06T19:10:14Z

The fact that this is still fun just goes to show how much of a difference good sound design makes. Good (not)game!

Deep Seek by Sheepolution 2021-05-06T19:45:50Z

There's some very nice animation work here - though I was surprised there wasn't any character animation for swimming diagonally down-left or down-right, especially considering how many of the tunnels were set up to be swam through that way.

But I do especially like how the music, sound effects and visual effects all build up the atmosphere, especially when you're running out of oxygen! They really help build up the tension of the "you are going to drown"-ness.

Far Side of the Mirror by DDRKirbyISQ 2021-05-14T21:38:08Z

Just when you think you've seen everything this game has to offer, it throws something new at you. And then again, and again. I love this game!

Hextraordinary Hexplorers by Aggrathon 2021-05-06T20:12:38Z

The tutorial does a good job of introducing all the mechanics - though I was thrown a bit by the instruction to "Go to the village to buy [apple] and [bow]". I didn't realise you needed to click Camp Here to enter the village a second time to do the second thing, and once you move off the village there's no way to get back to it, so I did spend a fair bit of the early game wondering if I'd inadvertently sabotaged my run by not picking up a bow.

I really like the art style, though! The graphics and the harmonica music really help sell the rustic out-in-the-woods feel of the game. And it does a good job of giving you enough resources that the game feels tricky without ever feeling punishing. Good game!

Unearther by udo 2021-05-06T19:34:26Z

I disagree with some of the other comments - I think this game does a good job of teaching the mechanics and gradually introducing them as you go. Just one thing I would say, though, is that the death sound is quite a bit disproportionately loud compared to the rest of the audio. Although I suppose it makes sense that death is unpleasant?

Also: I really like the end-of-level high scores! That's a very nice touch. I'll have to have a look in the source code as to how you've done those.

Ancient Heart by ThiefViolinist 2021-05-08T11:08:04Z

I really like the visual style here! And the moment when the chest suddenly sprouts legs and runs away was great. Not entirely sure how the game relates to the theme, but a good game nontheless!

Depth Charge by Fatsheep 2021-05-14T20:46:23Z

I didn't have any control issues (on mouse+keyboard, with gamepad not plugged in), except that the Ctrl-key-to-descend was the right Ctrl key only - not the left one as I'd have expected. But I really like how atmospheric this game feels (if that's the right word for an underwater game!) - the graphical style, environment design, sound effects, long timer and lack-of-music all work really well together to reenforce the very-chill-but-also-kinda-threatening feel of this game.

(I was about to comment about some issues with the "Thanks for playing" screen, but it sounds like you've already fixed the problems there in the 1.1 version. So I won't!)

Undermined by Alex Davies 2021-05-09T08:55:36Z

This is a fun game! Very well polished - and adding a high score table is a very nice touch. (Even though the high scores on it are intimidatingly high now!)

ATOM by cyriaque 2021-05-14T20:17:18Z

I like the deceptively-simple art style - it does a very good job of conveying all the important information!

I'd have liked to have seen more levels that take advantage of the sticking-to-walls mechanic, though - I think the falling-down-a-long-hole level was the only one that it really made much of a difference on.

Corla by JUSTCAMH 2021-05-14T21:08:01Z

I really like this game! The graphical style is great, the gameplay pulls a lot of depth out of a very simple and easy-to-understand core, and the music just ties everything together. Great work!

Axel the Axolotl Saves the Day by Empty Set 2021-05-06T19:56:39Z

This game has a surprising amount of depth! (Pun not intended :P)

Space Train by PatateNouille 2021-05-13T21:40:24Z

There's a lot of visual polish here! I would have liked to have seen some GAME OVER text at the end, though - just setting the train on fire doesn't make it entirely clear what just happened. The controls took a bit of getting the hang of, but it's a fun game once you've got the hang of it!

Bubble Diving by Lymze 2021-05-09T12:31:38Z

Although there's a way to slow down, I'd have also liked some way to speed up - those black spiky things are quite a lot harder to dodge once you've been slowed down by one of them. (But maybe that'd make them too easy...)

But yeah, I especially like how well the music and art style work together to set the mood. Good game!

LD49 — Unstable

We Are Typhoon by euske 2021-10-16T07:04:38Z

There's a surprising amount of depth here! I like the sound effects - they do a good job of stopping the tone of this game from getting too dark.

City of Cards by TheGamer1123211 2021-10-20T07:39:40Z

The music and the visual style really work well together here. I was going to say I'd found an area that you couldn't click on because the cards were in the way - but then I found out you could hold down the middle mouse button to pan the camera around, so it's actually fine :)

And the gameplay is really fun too! There's a tricky balancing act going on here about keeping things close together vs not keeping things so close together that the pollution makes everyone revolt. Good game!

Zandaka by lilkrit 2021-10-20T06:57:27Z

Tricky balancing act, this one! I like that you have the option to (sort of) set your own difficulty level by deciding yourself how often to spawn waves (though as is, it's still very difficult to keep everything balanced even if you're not spawning that many Oni).

(Also - bonus theme points for uploading an unstable build the first time around :P Can confirm, it's all working now!)

Floor Falls by Toomblercazz 2021-10-17T12:02:20Z

It's surprising how much depth (pun not intended) this game gets from such a conceptually simple set of rules. I'd have liked more levels - but that's probably a good sign!

Rocky Roost by Andreas Roschal 2021-10-17T13:00:15Z

Very fun game, this one! And there's so much attention to detail here - I love the little character animation touches, like the little "ow my foot" hop the racoon does after you peck him.

Not sure I agree with the other comments about it being too easy early on, though - I think it feels about right as is, it's good to have a bit of time to just get the hang of the controls. (Though maybe I just feel that way because I'm playing on a laptop, so swapping between mouse/trackpad and keyboard controls is a little trickier?)

Birds by Jammin 2021-10-17T12:14:33Z

Visually, there's a lot to love here - I really like the background artwork, and the line art over the painted background do a very good job of making everything visually distinct from everything else. And the slow zoom out over time is a nice touch! Gameplay-wise, I'd have liked to have seen the difficulty ramp up more over time - maybe have birds fly from one place to another on the stick, making them more likely to cluster on one side and make things more unbalanced.

Portal Problems! by LadyMistLeaf 2021-10-20T12:05:27Z

Short and to the point! I found it quite tricky to deliberately get the exactly-one-mistake ending, since when I put a wrong item in the box, the next right answer would invariably be the item I just threw away - but that's just my luck...

Space-Fix-Attack by John llyod Apolo 2021-10-16T07:26:23Z

There's a tricky balancing act in the design of this game - too many enemies/obstacles and the repairing-the-ship becomes too difficult, but not enough and you never need to repair the ship because the player can just dodge them all. I'd have preferred a few more enemies - but the music does help sell the easier / more chill feel of this game. (I really like the music here, by the way - very Homeworld-ish!) Maybe the enemy spawn rate could gradually tick up over time?

Wobbly City At Sea by rjmarzec 2021-10-20T07:06:39Z

I really like the cartoony visual style of this one - and how you've made it very clear what's going on even for people who didn't read the description :)

And I also liked that sudden moment of "oh, wait, it's the sea that's tilting, I'm doing so much worse than I thought I was". Good game!

Perfectly Balanced by mhorth 2021-10-20T07:21:53Z

There's soooo much visual polish here - so many little animation touches (the gentle sway of the camera, the animation on the progress bar when you unlock a new upgrade, the way cubes just bloop into existence...) that make this game super satisfying to play. And on top of that, it's a really fun game! Well done!

W.T.R. by Artemy Zen 2021-10-20T13:09:38Z

Minor nitpick: shouldn't "instant evaporation" just turn you into a gas?

But yeah, fun game! It manages to draw a lot of different gameplay ideas from just a few easy-to-understand rules. Very difficult in places, but it's probably better to err on the side of too-hard than too-easy. Nicely done!

UNSTABLE GROUNDS by Voodoo51 2021-10-17T12:38:16Z

Tricky game, this one - I kept finding that, by the time I found out what directions the corruption would be coming from, I'd already put down too much expensive infrastructure in places I wouldn't be able to hold. Maybe I just need to think more strategically? Apart from that, though, I enjoyed this one! Very nice low-poly visual style, and a lot more ambition than most LD games. Well done!

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Rapid Cleanup by Sheepolution 2022-04-15T11:13:07Z

Well, that was surprisingly difficult! Dang camoflauged cloud-bunnies... :P

Kiwis Can't Fly by DDRKirbyISQ 2022-04-16T17:20:32Z

My favourite game of the LD so far! Took me a while to work out whether there was a way to win or lose, until I realised that didn't really matter and that games can just be about trying instead. Also: that's got to be the cutest startled-cat-with-broom animation I've ever seen!

Geometry Survivors by udo 2022-04-15T11:08:40Z

Very just-one-more-level-ish, this game! Just two minor quibbles - I'd have preferred it if the green square kept aiming even if the mouse was over one of the buttons, though. And, it turns out - if you zoom out with the mousewheel, then you can see a lot further (probably not intended?), but then zooming back in again doesn't keep the green square centred, so you can lose yourself off the bottom right corner of the screen. But that's just me being picky :) Good game!

Geometry Survivors by udo 2022-04-17T06:03:56Z

@udo Yeah, I did just mean Ctrl+Mousewheel - I didn't get any zoom effects with just the mousewheel by itself. Sorry if that was unclear!

DashFight by antonsem 2022-04-18T13:14:32Z

This is a really elegant game! For such a simple and intuitive set of rules, there's a surprising amount of depth here. Just one thing, though - in the tutorial, for both the compo build and the 1.1 build, the help for "Dash/hit right" shows the left arrow rather than the right one. It's still clear from context what it's supposed to be, but it did throw me for a second!

Bomb Threat by Lychee 2022-04-17T11:31:45Z

That one stop-the-line puzzle was much meaner than the other two! But then, I was able to get the other two practiced up enough that I was gaining time on them, so I suppose it's good to have at least one that eats up time instead and stops you from just playing indefinitely. Personal best: 63!

Untitled Arcade Game by LeonardoMarques 2022-04-17T06:12:16Z

This one's fun! And there's a lot of visual polish going on here - I really like the little swirling-in animation when enemies spawn in. I won't say anything about the holding-down controls issue, since you already know about that - all I will say is I think this game needs a better name :) But good game!

The Delay Out Of Space by Firemanarg 2022-04-15T11:40:50Z

There's the idea of a decent game here - there's just quite a few pieces still not there yet, like the upgrade system, or the Destroy Building button, or the way that buildings don't actually cost resources. But you knew all that already :) Visually, though, I like this one a lot!

Snowcastle Meltdown by Noiyy 2022-04-16T14:54:51Z

I like the music - it does a good job of setting the tone for this game - but I was wondering if it'd make things even better if the music started building to something a bit more frenetic when the snowcastle's dangerously close to melting. (But having said that, maybe the rapidly-shrinking bar at the top of the screen makes things tense enough already? Either way, good game!)

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

untRACEable by Pennycook 2018-05-07T07:51:30Z

At first I was skeptical about the very slippery physics, but after a while I realised the game wouldn't work without that risk of running into walls at high speed. Also: bonus points for using actually incompatible genres here!

Intel Driver by Pete 2018-05-14T06:48:58Z

I kept instinctively hitting the brake whenever I wanted to take a tight corner - it took me a while to realise that I should actually ignore the brake and just hit the accelerator as hard as I could to spin around more. Once I got that out of my muscle memory, I enjoyed this game a lot more. Also: I love the flat-shaded art style!

Thrust Vector by pogo 2018-05-14T08:01:24Z

I love the art style, and level of graphical polish - and I also really like the gradual discovery of working out how to control your ship. I'd have liked some way to shoot back, though!

Lost Without You by jackrugile 2018-05-14T08:44:01Z

At first I was like "wait, how is this turn-based?" And then I was like "ohhhh..."

Very atmospheric - and for an LD game, very polished!

SneakBeat by Carraka 2018-05-07T08:12:48Z

At first I was like "These arrows don't relate at all to the sneaking-around. It'd be much better if up/left meant 'you move up and left, out of the way of some guard or whatever.'"

...and then I found out what the red arrows were actually for, and now I like the game a lot more! :P

Geom by ddolgov 2018-05-14T07:32:57Z

I really like this game! Glancing through the source code, I noticed some Cordova files - does this mean you'll be releasing an Android version too?

Groovy Beat Shooter by racebennon 2018-05-07T07:41:47Z

Once I read that the start page was the input calibration, I started finding it much easier to shoot - I'd kinda been treating it more as a "mash the A button to get the game started" page. :P

I think I managed to glitch this game. If you crash into an enemy ship, then you explode but you don't get a "Game Over" message - the game just keeps going, and you need to close and reopen it to continue. But you kinda have to deliberately crash into people to make this happen, so it's not a serious issue. And I really like the music!

Supreme Racing by Inusun 2018-05-14T07:38:35Z

It's true that this game is very fast - but I'm not sure that's necessarily a bad thing. There's definitely something to be said for the whole mood of frantic typing "GO FAST GO FAST TURN LEFT TURN RIGHT AAAAAAAAAH" that this game produces!
