This was really interesting, but I'll tell you what, I am _not_ good at this game.

This was really interesting, but I'll tell you what, I am _not_ good at this game.
If you wanna know, me too. Even using two hands, I don't make really good scores…
You are the monster!
it was interesting, and i liked the graphics / feel of it, but the gameplay mechnanics didn't really do it for me. i was mostly just doing the same combination of keys over and over again until it suddenly changed, meaning i had to be doing the same thing repeatedly but also slowly so i could watch for changes.
@evileptic Yes. This was not the first theme I didn't like at all. @traffle Yes, I agree. As I started very very lately, I didn't take the time to polish the gameplay, and as a result, the gameplay is pretty awfull. And if you can go far enough, this is worst. By a lot.
The more buttons appear, the more the game tests your reflexes: a type of games that I enjoy a lot, and this was no exception (if only the patterns were randomly generated). Also, the irony on the theme is a nice detail

Better stop here before I get addicted
What a fun minigame! The main gameplay is simple but finally very addictive. My keyboard doesn't tell you thanks. Well done ++
Merci pour tes paroles très sympathiques lors de l'évaluation de mon projet. J'apprécie beaucoup. C'est aussi un grand plaisir pour moi de jouer tes jeux durant les LudumDare. Bonne copntinuation à toi ++
my best score was 152, I'm really bad at pressing the right keys. I could see a version of this where its less trying to trick you in pressing the right keys and more about pressing the keys in the right way, but there is also some interest in seeing what is at the very bottom (even if I wasn't able to reach it). Keep up the good work though!
@aeveis : I'm afraid that there is no end. Even if it's seems to me very hard to go that far, I have anticipated it (just in case…), and starting from somewhere over 500, you would just see the same cycling pattern over and over. At first I had planed 10px down per point with unique background before the cycling part, and a goal of 1000 points in mind, so, including the 300px margin on top, and a rolling part of one screen height (600px), plus a 100px extra to round it on the next thousand, I came up with a 11000px background image. But some time before the end, I decided to speed up the visual effect by two, so with now 20px down per point. As the background image is not protected nor crypted in any way, it is possible to open it directly if you are curious, the relative path is readable directly in the code at the end of the index.html page : http://workshop.xenedon.com/LD48/assets/background.png
Interesting idea, but not particularly my thing. Well made though.
i got shimixed by the new letters, the game had potential, i feel like the game could be really good if it had more comedy
Nice little game, the music did a good job of making me press along to the beat. It was a bit of a finger twister but honestly I would say the difficulty was just about right to be challenging enough that you want to play again and do better. It was cool to see some Easter eggs in the background, and I think it's great if you made it in only an afternoon. I quite enjoyed this theme tbh because it was quite conceptual and allowed for different interpretations, even if most people (like me) went for simple stuff like digging and submarines :D I would say a theme like "combine two incompatible genres" like you included in the Easter egg isn't even a theme, it's a constraint, like some jams have a theme and a constraint, but I agree that more conceptual themes aren't necessarily easier to brainstorm for. Good job on a fun little submission!
@weirdybeardyman What I ommited to mention is that I was also thinking that we'll have a lot of games near the ones we had with LD#29 "Beneath the surface". And… I was not wrong : I saw yesterday a game on an idea very near of my own entry for LD#29 (even if the gameplay and concept are way better than mine) (someone who needs to deal with deads escaping their graves, by burrying them again)
@lereveur that's fair, man you've done a lot of LD's!
@lereveur I actually remember your crazy looper from last jam, that was fun!
@weirdybeardyman the fun fact is that I entered my first LD just because I wanted to rate some games from people I really liked the entries, thinking I certainly would never be able to make a playable game in so short time. And today, I just participated for 24 LD, among wich only one give up and only one uncomplete, and I'm making my LD entries with my own javascript engine… So, I must recon that I was very (very) wrong
Be advised: windows 7 is no longer receiving security updates and you're setting yourself up to get viruses and malware!
I enjoyed playing your game, it's definitely something different and well executed. Congrats!
I'd love to hook up to a gimmick controller like a dance pad or a guitar hero controller.
Considering this is a troll game, it works well and has good fundamentals. I can definitely imagine this being a mobile game. While I liked the mystery of finding things in the background, I was too focussed on hitting the right buttons to properly read and understand them! I liked the humour / commentary being made by the game.
@cheesepencil Well, the lot of messages I had for the past two years from the system said the same. But they didn't explain how to install Windows 10 on my twelve+ years old machine  (besides, I'm not downloading suspicious content, I'm using MB and some browser securing utilities, and for now, I still receive WD updates each day, so, I'm not *that* unsecure about viruses and malwares) @kotzi This is good to know that my little troll game pleased at least someone  @stewthepoo I absolutely didn't think about that, but this is an interesting idea. If I find enough motivation, I could try to make a version of my engine that can handle game controllers, and try to make this game working with it - and as I'm thinking about that, I may have an old PS2 dance pad and an adaptater somewhere… @marc-jones I think that making a troll game is not incompatible with making an actual game  - some LDs ago, I remember seeing someone with a troll entry, and I had think that he could have made an actual game with his concept, so, when it comes to me this session, I decided to make a real game, and not just a troll. The last time I tried to make my javascript game working properly with mobile, it was a failure, so I didn't even test it this time  - even if I intentionally placed the buttons on the sides of the screen (just in case) About the background, as I said before : > As the background image is not protected nor crypted in any way, it is possible to open it directly if you are curious, the relative path is readable directly in the code at the end of the index.html page : http://workshop.xenedon.com/LD48/assets/background.png
When I saw this game I wasn't really expecting it to be fun, but man it surprised me. Simple but nice idea, well executed. imagem_2021-05-03_185956.png
Overall, really good for a "troll entry" as you call it. I think my best was only 102, because I kept hitting the wrong button once it got to 4 controls (looks like from some of the screenshots it goes to at least 6? I can't imagine trying to keep up with that haha)
Music was surprisingly good for a simple game, and (like yourself) I wasn't super thrilled about the theme either, lol. Still, good entry!
Weirdly addicting game, good job!
Honestly, it's a pretty good take on the theme.
Great job on this small game, Im glad you were able to put out something despite not liking the theme. I think you did a nice job. It was addicting and I enjoyed trying to get far. I like these kinds of games, it was fun to get in a rhythm but you werent entirely sure when it was going to switch which meant you had to be cautious. I just became cautious every 50 because that's what it seemed to be changing on haha But good job!
You said all the criticisms of your game yourself. Looks like you didn't like the theme, and the controls are hard to reach even with two hands.
For a "troll game" this isn't bad! A bit more color would be an improvement, as well as allowing the player to make more than one mistake before the game ends. Even so, it's challenging and fun in its own way. At the very least, it's good for typing practice.
No, *you* are the monster. This game is evil.
And yet, surprisingly addictive...
Really not bad, for an afternoon's work! I can feel your frustration with the theme in the frustration your game caused me :confounded: It's like a rhythm game, but without the rhythm :joy:
I always think of the theme as a starting point for letting your imagination run free. There's countless times my game idea drifted far away from the theme, and if it's a good idea, I don't see any problem with letting that happen.
