Neat take on the theme, loved the graphics and the overall realization. The fun was definitely there
Interesting game concept, good graphics and sound effets. Good job. By the way I found a bug in the world4, I fell through the hole and, despite the world restarted itself, I couldn't see the character for a while (I lost another more life because of this).
Very interesting, well made.
the first thing I did was spam space to make the block darker, i don't know if pressing space multiple times on the same block changed anything since the resources showed up after the first space, I also found the enemies that move around to be annoying, I didn't know where it was going to do next and died a lot from it
Nice game, very tidy and crispy pixel art. Kind of a puzzle roguelike gameplay fusion, very unusual and rather fun. Two things I didn't like were the sound effects (a bit too harsh for my taste) and the enemies (I think it's kind of unfair that you get killed after a single encounter since there's no way to know where they will go the next turn; what would be nice is to at least have an infinite amount of restarts, although having a game over sure makes the game more challenging!) Overall I really liked the game, I guess it's just easier to talk about what you don't like rather then what you do, haha.
hey, for some reason your game didnt work for me. i downloaded it and was able to run it, however the controls did not work. i was able to use WASD (but not arrow keys) to move around, but spacebar did nothing. i moved to every possible area and tried to mine using spacebar, but nothing happened. i am playing on windows. there was also no sound, im not sure if there is supposed to be.
> @xxdoombox thanks for letting me know about the key mapping > @jamesy012 no the markings on the block are to show you where you have mined, darker is just multiple sprites overlaying > @oalemachine yes the enemies are completely random - no time to add ai - sorry
Cool concept! I would like to see the mining have an effect on the environment or something :)
Neat idea and competent execution. The graphics are nice and simple. The audio is less nice, but simple at least.
The challenge doesn't exactly ramp up much. The random AI is more annoying than anything really.
Also after dying a few times it booted me back to the first level. I would have liked to continue playing, you know.
An ok job! More emphasis on challenge would have been nice.
Nice idea, like @HuvaaKoodia said, I expect more challenge once I figure out the gameplay, I expect that each of my move should be carefully calculated because something is at stake (move count, more danger, I think). All in all, good game there
Good use of the theme. Graphics have a great retro feeling. Fun but simple, what's not to like?
The basic idea of the game is pretty nice, and it fits well with the given theme! I liked the graphics, pretty simple but they get the job done! For the sound design, the pickup and drop effects sound good, I guess I would change the dig sound effect because as soon as you get the gameplay, it's pretty easy to start spamming this action and it ends up sounding not that good in my opinion.
As some others already pointed it out, it becomes quite quickly repetitive and the random IA makes it feel you're more like grinding to get it into a safe position so then you can bring back the loot to your spaceship. I think there could be something to do with the loot beeing at different depth, because the more you dig, the darker the tile gets. Having a sort of radar to get how far you are from the closest loot could be nice, a bit like in FF IX with the Chocobo's mini-game in the forest.
Very cool little game. I like the puzzle like gameplay and the cute art. I feels a little strange to mine under the mining cart. Great entry, keep up the good work.
Nice graphic!! It's miss a music. It's a funny little game ^^ That snake kill me too many times ^^
I like the cute graphics. It maybe needs a little more of a puzzle element to be a really great little game
For whatever reason I could never bring myself to give other tiny world games a 5 on Theme. Maybe it's because of the limited movement spaces and black background but you're my first to give a 5 for that category. Some cool puzzle ideas here though I would've liked maybe 1 additional mechanic to play with to keep the gameplay fresh.
Cool game !
Graphics are good, gameplay too, that is a godd little puzzle game. But sounds are not so good though x) You should work on this side if you want to continue the game :)
So keep coding and do not give up !
Nice little world! I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yuMfX69kxA
I didn't understand the idea of the game. It seemed like the placement of the resources and movement of the monsters was random. This felt sort of unsatisfying to me, as it was basically as though I was just waiting for the monster to move so I can get to tiles I hadn't tried yet. The sound was a bit harsh, but I thought it fit. In the future, you may want to tone it down. If there was a way to figure out where the resources are, or a way to deal with the monsters, I feel it could be much more fun. I did really enjoy the graphics though. With a few changes this could be a really fun little game.
Neat game! The graphics are really nice. The sound is okay but some of the effects were irritating and it could use some music. I liked the idea of the game being turned based, but it was brought down somewhat by the seemingly unpredictable enemies. If they have a pattern I certainly couldn't see it. It's fun as it is, but I think the game would be better if you addressed that one issue. I could only make it to Level 5.
Nice game. Although it might be worth randomising the resource placements when each level loads - after completing a level, I was able to remember what tiles had things underneath them, so the second time through was much easier.
I like the turn-based movement and mechanics of the game. At first I kept digging the same spot because I suppose I assumed the darkening crack meant I had to dig deeper to obtain the resources. I think it would be better to give the player some feedback on how the enemies move, or make the enemies move more predictably so that there could be a puzzle element in planning the movements. Good job! :)
Nice game, although resource gathering wasn't really clear to me. I just kept pressing the space bar to collect resources, but after 200+ turns I still just had 1 "resource", and I delivered it to the space ship. After that, no matter what tile I mined on, no resources popped up. Or you're supposed to only get 1 or I'm doing it wrong (which is probably the case)
For the rest, really liked the graphics. Couldn't say much about the audio, since it was minimal. Can't judge gameplay because I didn't really get the purpose of the game. For the rest, keep it up bro :)
I like the graphics a lot. Trying every tile felt a bit random and tedious though - I'd maybe like to see the game with a bit bigger enemies and clearly visible resources, and having the difficulty being getting there and back in a carefully planned route. If you want to keep the digging mechanic then maybe something lightly inspired by minesweeper to make it a bit less random?
Nice project overall, good approach to pixel graphics (quite crisp and clear). Mechanics are easy to grasp, though it's good you gave players two rounds to warm up and see what's what :)
**what could be improved** - mining more than once in the same place doesn't yield anything, so there's basically no purpose in allowing it, and it actually confuses new players, since the cracks are getting deeper - plus, when spamming space, the sound can become aggravating. It would be advisable to get rid of this mechanic if it's not used (at least I didn't reach a point in game where it was used ;) )
- random enemy movement is not really the best way to create puzzle. If you were aiming at creating puzzle, there should be a pattern - complicated, of course, but still allowing to plan ahead; if you can't logically preduct the path, it's not really a puzzle, just a gamble. Unless that was your intention, of course, but the turn-based movement and overall mechanics suggest otherwise :)
...and that would basically be it. Well, some background sound too, but that's obvious.
In jam terms, it's a fun project, and the issues I mentioned above are to be expected in jam games. If you're planning on developing the project further, I hope my feedback will prove useful. You did some very solid work!
Cheers, and stay awesome!
Good stuff. The first thing I did was spam Space on a tile to make it grow darker, and it gave me the impression that maybe we had to do that to mine deeper elements lol. Might have confused me there. But once it's figured out, it's a pretty neat puzzle game!
I don't like that the enemy movements are so unpredictable (so it seemed to me anyway!) with no way to combat them. It seemed like it was just luck whether you ran into them or managed to get past them on some of the tighter areas of the levels. I really liked the game otherwise though. Something about navigating the cart was very satisfying, as was hauling things back to the ship, and the art was really cute.
