LD22 — Alone

Snow by bentosmile 2012-01-08T00:10:00

I'm not too sure about what the story was supposed to be about or where I was, especially since the contents of most of the locations were completely unrelated, but this was still a fun little game. I liked the graphics, though it would have been nice too have some sounds or music.

BatKeep by someone 2012-01-10T01:58:00

Fun, though quite difficult. The crate pushing is way too slow, but the graphics are nice.

YANA by sirius_black9999 2012-01-09T02:08:00

I had the same problem as wbobeirne.

Master Engineer by Mstrp2ez 2011-12-22T07:25:00

I'm not really a big fan of tower defense games, so my opinion isn't that valid, but this seems like a solid game. The graphics and sounds are decent and the gameplay works well.

0 ALONE by Neonlare 2012-01-07T09:08:00

Fantastic!

The gameplay is lacking, but that's not the focus of this. The graphics and sound seem simple initially, but the way they evolve over the course of the game is really cool. Excellent use of the theme.

Live another day by fishbrain 2011-12-20T10:26:00

The ending gave me a bit of a shock, though I suppose that was probably intended. Or maybe I just had the volume up too loud.

It's not exactly a "game", but it's still a great use of the theme.

Live another day by fishbrain 2012-01-05T09:05:00

Sorry, I didn't notice that you were able to do those things the first time. I played the game again, got the good ending and adjusted the ratings I gave. Thanks for explaining the parts I missed, and sorry for taking so long to reply.

Super Smash Lander Suicide Party, Bro? by Black Ships Fill the Sky 2012-01-11T09:53:00

I don't know what just happpened, but I liked it.

The Lonely Island by Bezza 2011-12-21T07:52:00

Nice. Simple but enjoyable.

I found it kind of odd (from a gameplay standpoint) that you needed to open coconuts before eating/drinking them.

A Life Apart by MagnesiumNinja 2012-01-09T11:09:00

I didn't find the gameplay as bad as other people seemed too, but it's definitely not the strong point or focus of the game. The mood, however, is. This is one of the most deep and emotional games I've played here. The graphics and sound are effectively used to develop the atmosphere. Overall, a great use of the theme.

ForeverAloneKitten by Snowflower 2011-12-20T10:18:00

There isn't much in the way of gameplay, but it does an excellent job of conveying the "alone" theme.

The Ice Maze by Fenmar 2012-01-09T10:09:00

The "play game" button does nothing when I click it. Any idea what the problem might be.

Viking Cricket on the High Seas by twistedjoe 2011-12-21T05:22:00

I really like the flashlight mechanic. It's cool how you have to search around a bit in order to find where the next platform is, though the recharging thing was kind of annoying.

Snowfall by Guns_Are_Toys 2012-01-07T23:42:00

Could you upload a video or something so that people can rate it even if they can't play it?

Bunker by namrog84 2012-01-08T12:54:00

I found the kitten and all the notes! My score was 218300.

The game gets dull after a while, especially since it's such a large area with little gameplay or visual variety. The graphics and sounds are good though, and the game does a decent job of showing the theme.

A Lone Kitty by Thomas 2011-12-22T08:44:00

The graphics were good and I liked the lighting effect, it adds a lot to the mood. My only complaint is that the gameplay got slightly dull after a while.

Untitled by jonathanasdf 2011-12-21T05:09:00

The concept of the kittens seems interesting. I would like to see what kind of puzzles and challenges could be created with it if more levels were added.

The game is unfinished, so it's not fair for me to comment on anything else. Maybe you should have gone for the Jam instead to give yourself more time.

Alone in the Mansion by kumber 2012-01-10T02:15:00

Nice ending! The game was quite fun, I really liked how some doors has enemies, so it became dangerous to search for the key. The fact that you have to restart the entire game when you die is annoying, but it's not too bad since once you know the key locations you can get through the levels quickly. The graphics and audio were also great. Sorry, I was too late to rate it.

Lost in the Woods by ratboy2713 2012-01-08T01:54:00

That tree is a jerk!

Nice game. Restarting over isn't a major problem since it's so short, though there should've been an option to restart rather than quit. The puzzles were kind of tricky, but not too bad. I also liked the music. My only complaint is the graphics - Having some parts blurry and some not doesn't look very good.

I found the kitten!

Nothing But Stars by wbobeirne 2012-01-08T21:21:00

The controls, graphics, and music/sounds give a nice space feel. If was fun flying around, so it's a shame the game was so short.

EpiCat by Jacic 2012-01-08T05:18:00

Basic, but still fun to play for a while. The game screen didn't fit on my screen correctly so the high score, score, and life counters were cut off, which ruined the game a little.

The Knock by Jorjon 2012-01-10T01:03:00

Nice game. It's a bit short, and there should have been more puzzles, though with the time limit that's understandable. I'm not sure exactly what the ending was supposed to mean, but it looked cool and felt interesting. The graphics are neat and I liked the song at the end.

Leave Me Alone by SaiKai 2012-01-09T12:21:00

Before I say anything else I'd like to say the music is amazing!

This game seemed very difficult at first, but after I played it a bit and got used to it it wasn't so bad. Actually, after I mastered it, this became probably the most fun and addictive game I've played. I couldn't stop playing it! After I finally managed to win twice in a row, with a score of 19803, I stopped.

I discovered that you can jump in mid air if you walk off a platform rather than jumping off it. I'm not sure if it was a glitch, but I found it to be a suitable and enjoyable mechanic.

The graphics and sound (especially the music) are good, but some sounds are too loud. Overall, though, it's a fantastic game!

Outpost Alone by kokido 2011-12-20T10:05:00

The speed of the bullets made the game a lot more difficult than it really should have been, and I feel that there should have been a score counter of some kind.

On a more positive note, The graphics were simple yet effective, I liked the effect of the stars in the background. The sounds were also really good.

First by JH 2011-12-22T08:00:00

Very nice. The graphics and music do a great job of conveying the mood. The controls also add to the atmosphere, though they can get frustrating when you're trying to chase down a parasite.

First by JH 2012-01-11T02:34:00

I'm glad this got #15 overall (and #9 mood) since this was one of favourites.

The Lonely Electron by spiral 2012-01-08T12:06:00

The graphics and sound are great, and the gameplay is pretty fun too. There should have been more of an explanation, as it took me a while to realise I was supposed to stay near the wire thing. Like others have said, it's also too short.

Can't Survive Alone by revilossor 2012-01-09T08:13:00

Too be honest, the cage and kitten sections seemed kind of pointless, but the main game was quite fun. The idea of having your flock as some sort of a healthbar is cool. I would have liked to have more levels, though.

Skull Hunt by Kelly Thomas 2012-01-08T02:18:00

A nice platformer. The throwing mechanic is quite cool, though I don't like that it's possible to throw the skulls that you need away. The sounds were well done, too.

The graphics are decent, but the fact that some things are more pixelated than others isn't good. There isn't much connection to the theme either.

lonely robot by ericdpitts 2012-01-09T10:04:00

Fun game. The ability to use your gun to propel yourself allowed for some intersting gameplay. The graphics and sound are decent, too. It's a shame that it's so short.

A Strange Story by nickfla1 2011-12-22T07:38:00

The game just sort of ended after the desert level. Is something wrong, or is that supposed to happen?

In terms of gameplay it was pretty fun, though the character seemed too slow and the gravity seemed too strong. I didn't like graphics, mainly because some things were pixellated while others weren't, which looked odd.

The End by 2A1S 2012-01-09T04:43:00

I finished the game!

I found it annoying how the combat system forces you to take damage, and it's kind of boring since all you do is stand there. The graphics are good. I liked the lighting effects. well, it's not exactly lighting, but it looks cool anyway.

Glow by StarLight 2012-01-09T02:58:00

The jumping is a bit awkward. I think that's because the player moves up for a bit then moves down, rather than having gravity that gradually changes its vertical speed.

Despite that, the game is quite fun. The graphics are decent, though they should be more consistent. Some things are very pixellated while others aren't. I really enjoyed the music and the theme was also used well.

Alone in the park by iforce2d 2012-01-08T09:41:00

Nice game. It's a little short but still fun. The graphics were pretty good, there was some interesting uses of physics, and I enjoyed the dialogue.

I Want To Be Alone by CplMustard 2012-01-09T02:37:00

Fantastic little game! The puzzles have some challenge but aren't too difficult. The graphical style is very nice, I especially like the contrast between the ending and the rest of the game. The only noticeable flaw is that it gets a little repetitive after a while.

Robot Armageddon! by Raptor85 2012-01-08T06:02:00

It would be nice if there were some instructions. The first time I played I thought the goal was to get as many enemies as possible on screen before dying to score points. Then I read these comments and realised that I could shoot.

The graphics aren't the best, though the sounds are good. The gameplay itself is a lot of fun. You've got to love that classic arcade action. My best score is 87350, on level 4.

When I tried the game with an Xbox 360 controller I could only fire up and down.

The Cheese Stands Alone! by EvilDemonCreature 2012-01-09T09:23:00

Very original puzzle game! The mechanics are interesting and lead to a lot of challenging puzzles. The graphics aren't amazing, but are still fairly good. Nice use of the theme.

LUDUM DARODIUS by pythong 2012-01-10T01:46:00

The flying controls can be kind of annoying when you're trying to dodge stuff precisely, but they're not too bad. Fantastic graphics! I liked the music, but I really wish the game had some sound effects. All in all, a good job.

For the Love of Life by Permanent7 2011-12-21T07:36:00

I THINK I finished it. However, there could be a better explanation of what exactly your goal is, though I suppose the lack of explanations makes the game feel more mysterious, and enforces the idea of being alone. Speaking of which, the atmosphere of the game was done really well.

The Lone Adventurer by harusame 2012-01-09T04:50:00

The graphics and sound are excellent, but the jumping is quite awkward.

Alone Midway by Malactus 2012-01-09T10:49:00

The graphics were nice, and pretty atmospheric too. It's too bad about the lack of content. Hopefully it goes better for you next time!

VOXTERIUM by Kitch 2012-01-09T05:13:00

Simple, yet fun and addictive. This is also the most original concept for a game that I've seen so far. The graphics are also simple but effective and the sounds are great, especially the music.

There really should've been some kind of high score thing, plus I felt that the controls weren't sensitive enough.

Apart from that, this is a brilliant game!

Follow by Pixelbear 2011-12-21T04:57:00

I'm not a fan of the player sprite, but the rest of the graphics are really nice. The grey colour scheme and the sounds really help to set the mood.

I eventually managed to beat it (with both kitten coins), but it took a while to figure out what to do. It's difficult to tell what things can be picked up or used. The descriptions of the items you need are vague (for example, the gate's description makes it seem like you could just use the rod on it) which doesn't help.

One Man Alone in the Darkness by Cleggy 2012-01-10T01:27:00

Good game. My score was 201. The graphics are great, though the ground being less pixellated than everything else is odd, yet it still looks nice.

The gameplay is fun, but it gets repetitive after a while. Like you said, powerups would help, and I think there should be more variety between monsters. They seemed to all be the same with different looks to me. Maybe some could shoot or something.

The controls weren't too problematic for me, but it would be nice to have an option to use WASD instead of the directional keys.

Alone Ozone by MadEqua 2012-01-09T05:38:00

Very clever use of the theme. The concept is original and also incredibly fun, though I felt it went on for a tad long without any variation. Some powerups would've been nice. The graphics and sound are pretty good. I especially like the awesome menu music. It's shame the game music isn't quite as cool. My score was 823515.

Aurea Oceanus by bompo 2012-01-09T08:00:00

It was far too difficult for me. The most I got was 5 pieces of gold. However, the atmosphere is very well done. The sounds of breathing plus the restricted field of vision really help to set the mood. Definitely the most atmospheric game I've played in this competition.

Mission to Mars by rjgtav 2011-12-21T06:56:00

Really good. The graphics were decent, it was fun driving the rover around (though it got kind of repetitive after a while) and the objective indicator was a nice touch.

Rover's Spirit by Robmaister 2012-01-07T08:08:00

I don't like that you need to install OpenAl, but it was simple to install and the game worked fine afterwards, so it's not a major problem.

A short and simple, yet enjoyable, game. The graphics are okay, but not great. I liked the sounds a lot, though. The "Alone" theme is also used fairly well.

Worlds End by ControllerKid 2012-01-26T06:09:00

The gameplay is quite basic and repetitive, but still fairly enjoyable. Some sounds seemed to be missing, such as the shooting of the turrets, but the sounds that were there were fitting.

Graphically the game is not amazing, but they're still effective. The lighting was a nice touch. However, I would've liked the walls to be more detailed, rather than black blocks.

I got stuck in the same place as Ralkarin, so I couldn't finish the game. From what I've seen, though, it's a decent entry.

Alone in Love by defiantburrito 2012-01-09T10:37:00

What, you can't hook up with Bob? Hmm... Maybe that's what he was going to ask you about.

This kind of game isn't really my style, but I still sort of enjoyed it. The story was nice, yet a bit short, but that's understandable considering the time limit. It's certainly different than most of the games here. The graphics were good too.

Enslaving Davement by Sean Hogan (anodyne/even the ocean) 2012-01-08T04:57:00

I hate this game so much.

Embracing my completionist side, I decided to collect every note in the game. I struggled against strict time limits and difficult jumps, avoiding the easy path that could be taken by ignoring notes. By the end I was yelling at my computer. After I finally finished I was rewarded with this: "You got 20/80 notes" FUUUUUUU...

Seriously though, this is a neat game. Both the graphics and audio are nice, especially the anxiety effects. The game is extremely challenging, but still fun, though I think the difficulty could be toned down a bit. And that ending notes glitch should be fixed.

Planet Earth Is Blue by Adhesion 2012-01-09T07:35:00

The gameplay was fun, but not very balanced. Shooting enemies wasn't worthwile since you could just as easily run in and grab the egg without defeating any of them. The graphics and audio are great. I liked the soundtrack. I used an Xbox 360 controller, which worked suprisingly well, and my final score was 32350.

Frostbite by saint11 2011-12-26T06:27:00

I'm amazed you managed to do all this in 48 hours.

The freezing and hunger mechanics are interesting. They encourage you to keep moving and to hunt for provisions, plus they add to the atmosphere of the game, but they never become too difficult to manage.

Overall it is a great game, one of the best I've played so far.

Paper Dream by Claw 2012-01-09T06:46:00

Very cool! I love the art style, the way the character moves as if he were paper is great. It's also quite fun flying around the place. Though I completed it, more instructions would've been helpful, but I suppose the vagueness of your goals adds to the feel of the game.

Running Alone by babbe107 2011-12-26T07:05:00

This is a decent game. The backgrounds are nice and the wavy effect is cool, but the look of the player and platforms could use some work. The fact that your movement is kind of laggy when on the ground is annoying.

Duckling by Veralos 2011-12-20T07:48:00

Wow, thanks for all the positive feedback! Is it really that difficult? The later screens are kind of tricky, but still... Well, I suppose the creator is supposed to be good at his game!

@Lusmu I'm glad you liked the difficulty curve. I tried to make the game gradually go from "just walk to right" to "time your flaps precisely to get over the spikes".

@EvilDemonCreature Yeah, I actually thought about that while making the game. I assume that there was a safe path just a few steps into the screen that the duckling can't reach due to the 2D nature of the game.

Duckling by Veralos 2012-01-06T09:34:00

I noticed that one of the platforms in the main screenshot is floating, even though I was trying to avert the "floating platform" thing. Ah well, that issue is fixed in the Christmas Edition.

@jonathanasdf You didn't find the game hard, yet you died 134 times... Maybe I should have made the default "least deaths" higher. Also, sorry about that appearance of the kitten. I'm not exactly an artist.

@ericdpitts Woah, that's some seriously high praise! I wouldn't this game is THAT amazing, but I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Sorry for the late replies, I was away on holiday for a while.

Duckling by Veralos 2012-01-09T06:01:00

@defiantburrito Thanks for the constructive criticism!

With the amount of testing I've done on this game I've grown used to the timing of the flapping, but I can definitely see where you're coming from. In hindsight maybe I should have made it so that you can flap again when your in the middle of one. That might've been a little overpowered, but I should've though about how tricky the timing can be to new players.

Duckling by Veralos 2012-01-09T06:08:00

Wow, two new comments during the writing and posting of my last reply! I must have a good ratings/coolness ratio or something.

@wbobeirne Yeah, I was sort of going for a "quick respawns/infinite lives/short levels, but challenging despite that" feel. It's a shame you gave up there, since that was the second to last screen.

Duckling by Veralos 2012-01-10T04:00:00

The results are in, and I got in the top 100 overall (#89). Cool! Plus, I got #20 in fun. Wow, that's amazing! Thanks so much to everyone who played, rated, and commented on this game!

Lucide Solitude by BortStudios 2012-01-05T04:34:00

The gameplay by itself is simple, but the increasing sounds and decreasing light make it very interesting.

Populating_Racing by Jilius 2012-01-05T07:18:00

The concept is very unique and is an interesting use of the theme.
I think the environment coming to life as you attain higher ranks is a nice touch.
While I'm not dedicated enough to S rank everything (I B ranked track 1 and 2 to unlock all the tracks), I appreciate the addition of replay value.

Solitaire of Solitude by Lusmu 2012-01-09T08:53:00

It needs a bit more explanation, but after I eventually figured out how the game worked it was quite fun. It was difficult, but I finally managed to finish with a score of 22. The idea of designing a card game is a very creative concept and it would be pretty cool if there was a real life version of this.

Alone In Space by Gregory 2012-01-05T08:19:00

There isn't much to comment on since I'm not sure what the complete version was supposed to be. In any case it was sort of fun flying around and the graphics were nice.

Friend by gmfreaky 2012-01-05T08:49:00

The graphics are good - The rain effects are nice and I like the way the camera moves. The sounds are suitable, the game is fun, and the levels are well designed.

I was confused by your friend randomly attacking you (especially since you still got a Game Over when he died) and the fact that the movable boxes teleported rather than moving and falling normally was odd.

Those issues aside, it was a great game!

Erasum by Wompus 2012-01-08T12:26:00

That was the best options menu I've ever seen!

A fairly standard platformer, but also a good, fun one. I really liked the graphical style and audio. The music is catchy, if a little repetitive. And the story was so deep and emotional! Okay, maybe not, but it was funny.

Erasum by Wompus 2012-01-11T02:24:00

WHY IS THIS ONLY #160???

You got #64 in humour, though. That's pretty cool.

WEIRDLY ALONE. by xilefian 2012-01-08T03:18:00

The graphics are excellent! I love the Game Boy style green. The way the sound changes as you move is also cool.

As others have said, the movement is too slow. I feel the dash speed should've been the walk speed, and the dash speed should be twice that. The difficulty curve is odd. The first few monsters are difficult to get past, but when you get the Medi-Kit and Gun things become much easier.

Despite that, it's a great game overall.

The Secluded Cave by Stargoat 2012-01-08T03:38:00

The lighting is cool, the graphical style is cool, the random generation is cool... Basically, everything about this game is really cool. It's a shame about the lack of sound.

The Secluded Cave by Stargoat 2012-01-11T02:48:00

This totally should've scored higher in Graphics.

Midas by Wanderlands 2012-01-11T23:39:00

The main mechanic is original, and leads to many fun and challenging puzzles. The graphics and sounds are simplistic, but still very effective. Overall, an excellent game.

NightEscape by brus46 2011-12-21T02:54:00

Short, but enjoyable. I liked the lighting effect and the ending was interesting. My only real complaint is the lack of sound, but you already addressed that.

Alone - Island Generator by Spujika 2012-01-06T09:44:00

There should have been more to the game, but the island generation is cool and the music is nice.

Screaming by kakuremino 2012-01-06T10:07:00

The atmosphere of the game is very well done. The graphics are nice despite their simplicity, and the sounds add a lot to the mood.

However, there isn't much in terms of gameplay, and I didn't know what I was supposed to do. I reached a point where the screen turned black and text said "It screamed" which felt like it was supposed to be the end, but the game kept going so I'm not sure.

Escape by Jaime von Schwarzburg 2012-01-06T10:24:00

I managed to completed the game, but it would have been better if there were more instructions on what you can do and what your goal is. I would of liked the game more if it took itself more seriously and had less excessive swearing, but that's just my opinion.

LD38 — A Small World

Escape The World by Ajayajayaj 2017-05-12T04:20:21Z

This is a pretty interesting puzzle game. I like the idea, and it takes some careful planning in the later levels to figure out how to complete them. The visuals and audio are both pretty simple, but they work well enough (I like the sound for moving blocks). It could be improved by having a way to tell which colour is currently selected (without needing to move the blocks). I also noticed that blue is always the last colour you need to get out. This isn't really an issue, but it could be good to mix this up so the puzzles require more thinking.

Oh, and it took me 438 moves over 7:36 minutes.

For The Love Of Money by KunoNoOni 2017-05-04T02:26:55Z

The game is a fairly standard platformer, but it all works and there's a decent amount of levels and different obstacles (though I don't think the lives system was necessary). The graphics and sound are similar: they're not spectacular but they do the job well enough. I appreciate the inclusion of some background music. The only major gripe I have is that there doesn't seem to be any connection to the theme. Overall it's a solid game that could use something extra to make it feel more special.

Timeless by Chaseplays 2017-05-07T11:30:32Z

Very nice game! The art and music are both well done. The central mechanic is interesting and the levels make good use of it. I really appreciate how you get a preview of the alternate version when you try to swap in a blocked place. Having the apples to collect as bonus challenge is cool, though I accidentally missed one of them by ending the level too early. I hope I didn't miss anything too big for not getting all of them...

Bubble Boy by rjhelms 2017-05-11T05:37:11Z

This is a neat game with a clever interpretation of the theme. I especially like how all the obstacles are themed around stuff that could make you sick. It's cool how the controls make it feel like you're rolling around in a ball, and its fun bouncing on top of stuff. I don't think it was necessary to have a limited amount of lives, though. The graphics aren't the best, but the music is pretty nice.

Toy Racer by Avon 2017-04-29T03:36:19Z

I quite like the concept. It's pretty fun speeding around the track once you get a hang of the controls, but the turning feels a little slow. It would be nice to have checkpoints along the track so you don't need to restart the whole race if you mess up. The visuals are really good and help to reinforce the idea of driving a toy car. The sound effects are decent, and although you didn't make it the music was a good choice (though I don't like how it restarts between the title screen and the main game).

By the way, I'm referring to the original version for these comments. Sorry if these issues have been fixed in the updated version; I want to rate the version submitted for the jam.

My Very Own World by Flipsy 2017-05-01T10:16:54Z

Nice little game. The graphics are pretty cute (though I think the people could use more work), the sounds work well enough, and it's quite enjoyable following along with the short story. I really liked creating a silly dance.

I had some graphical issues with things being visible off the side of the screen, but that might just be a Flash thing.

Feed The Anthill by StaNov 2017-05-12T11:31:37Z

The graphics are nice and I really like the music and sound effects. It's cool how the ants cluster around the thing you're carrying. The gradual increase of ants provides an interesting progression as you need to get more food to feed more ants, but you also need more ants to get more food. I think it may have worked slightly better if the anthill was in the center of the screen with food/materials spawning around it. Currently there's little reason to go to the right of the screen since it takes so long. I also would have liked some way to drop things after picking them up. Overall though, it's quite a nice game.

Transistor Soup by stuntddude 2017-05-16T12:25:28Z

The graphics are simple at best, and the sound is completely nonexistent, but I think this is among the games I enjoyed the most. There's just something satisfying about constructing a system for a purpose using a set of clear rules. I avoided cheating by looking up how the various gates and such are supposed to be set up, which provided a big challenge considering my knowledge of these logic systems is vague at best. I really like how the solutions you create get added as components you can use - it gives a nice sense of progression.

A couple of issues: * It feels like there are a few glitches with the simulation. One noticeable one was wires that would rapidly flash on and off. * The first illustration for Binary Addition is incorrect. It shows a result of 12 (1100) when it should show a result of 10 (1010).

Oh, and I'm pretty sure this isn't the way you're supposed to solve the last puzzle (it's a complete mess, but it technically works):

Invasion - The Chronicle by Kappa.B 2017-04-30T11:12:53Z

This seems like a cool concept, but it's also rather confusing. I'm not sure if certain issues are because I don't know how to do something or because it wasn't fully implemented. For instance, I couldn't figure out how to get science points. Anyway, the graphics look nice - I really like the style. Overall it looks good and seems neat but I'm not very good at it.

Abaddon by Geckoo1337 2017-05-19T01:45:18Z

Really cool game, though I'm not sure what it has to do with the theme. The models are good and the shader looks very cool. The music and sound effects are great too. The gameplay is decent, though it can be a bit hard to tell where the attacks are coming from and the shotgun attack is a bit weak.

Hopper by Porcus_Pie 2017-05-09T09:35:40Z

Very nice! The visual style is really nice, especially the glow effect. The sounds are all pretty nice, and there's enough that the game never feels empty despite the lack of music. The zoom in/out sound can be annoying if you zoom too fast though. The gameplay is relatively simple but is still pretty interesting and I like how it introduces new mechanics regularly to mix things up. I really appreciate how it manages to teach everything without blatantly spelling it all out. There's a good amount of content too. If there's any complaint it's that you fall a bit slowly. Overall though, it's really well done.

ATLANTIS by OccultOne 2017-05-12T14:13:18Z

Very nice game. The graphics look really cool with the combination of 2D sprites and 3D terrain. The music is nice and the sound effects are good too. The gameplay seems quite interesting but I'm not sure I fully understood it. I managed to activate the four towers and call the boat, but I couldn't seem to interact with the palace. The interface overall feels like it could be a bit more intuitive - it took a while for me to figure out I was supposed to be using a specific character each turn. That said, I really appreciate the effort put into having some flavour and story to the game.

ATLANTIS by OccultOne 2017-05-13T04:37:02Z

> "@mikea : Was the button greyed out, or was it just not accepting input?"

I assume you were referring to my comment since mikea's comment didn't mention any issues.

I can't recall exactly, but I believe the button was greyed out.

Monochrome Perspectives by Funkensteins Monster 2017-05-04T04:42:31Z

This game seems like it has a lot of potential if it had just a bit more polish. As it is, the art is very nice but there could be some more visual effects (for hitting or destroying enemies, for example) and it seems like a lot of the tiles aren't properly aligned. Likewise, the music is very good but some sound effects are sorely missing. The gameplay is okay but lacks some flair and there are some strange bugs: * If you go back to a previous room too soon after entering a new one the view won't go back to the last room. * Some of the walls just stop bullets instead of destroying them, so you end up with piles of bullets lined up against them. * Sometimes you or the enemies can go through walls.

I quite liked interacting with people and helping them to get the gems. It seems to hint at a larger story which didn't get shown in the game. It was interesting how the world changed after being asked to get the wrench, which made you take a different route to get back where you came from. Keeping the gems when you died was also nice - I don't think I would be able to finish it otherwise. However, there really needs to be a better indicator that you can talk to someone and the talk range needs to be larger. It took me a while to realise I could actually interact with people.

Chroma by Megalink 2017-05-06T05:07:01Z

This game is super cool, though I'm not too sure how it fits the theme. The graphics look pretty nice with all the glow effects and different colors. The music is fantastic and all the sound effects sound right - though the audio balance could be adjusted a bit. The gameplay is really fun. The dash move is neat and the brief pause after each kill helps to add impact to the combat. I like how there are various different weapons to find and use, but they could be more distinct. There's overall an impressive amount of content with multiple levels, enemies and bosses.

That said, there are some improvements that could be made: * The things you collect from enemies don't seem to do anything. I think they're supposed to restore your heath/dash meter. * I don't like how you dash in the direction of the mouse. It would be good if you dashed in the direction you were moving instead so you could aim at an enemy and dash in another direction to avoid their bullets. * Dashing into enemies is cool, but it often seems too risky to be worth it. Perhaps the dash could do more damage or give you more invincibility when hitting enemies with it. * The health bar and dash meter recharge too slowly. The optimal strategy would be to wait to recharge between each enemy which would be very boring. I would suggest either making them recharge faster (possibly after some delay) or not recharge at all and supply some other way to refill them.

Sorry if that sounds too critical - I actually love the gameplay, I just feel like it could be made even better.

Ionnect by AkirAssasin 2017-05-12T10:00:07Z

This is a great idea for a game and it's executed really well too. The controls (mostly) work how you expect them to, and it's easy enough to figure out what's going on without prior chemistry knowledge. However, I feel there could be a bit more variety in the compounds and maybe some more mechanics added as things progress (if there actually are new mechanics they should be introduced sooner). Sorry, I don't know enough about Chemistry to offer any ideas. It would also be nice to have some way to zoom out (things start to get pretty cluttered in the later levels) and the ability to right click to cancel creating a bond. The visuals look really clean, with some fluid animations. This isn't a game that really needs a lot of audio, but some simple sound effects could help to make it feel more alive.

Is there any end to the game, or does it just infinitely generate new levels? I only got to level 13.

Dr. Plumb by phi 2017-05-13T03:57:43Z

I'm not sure if it's a problem on my end, but the game doesn't load for me (using the web link).

Dr. Plumb by phi 2017-05-13T09:42:28Z

Neat game. The graphics are really nice and the audio fits very well. I like how the background music is subtle enough to not be distracting, yet still provides some sound to prevent the game feeling empty. The puzzles are pretty interesting too. They're fairly intuitive but can be quite tricky in the later levels. It's nice being able to follow the blood so you can see where things went wrong when you fail. If would have been nice if more mechanics were introduced as you progressed, but that's a very minor complaint in an overall solid game.

FLAT SAMURAI by Tymus 2017-05-19T05:10:48Z

I can't test it properly as I don't have anyone to play with and I don't have a second controller. It's pretty fun dashing around, though. It's unfortunate I couldn't play it properly. The visuals are clean, but a bit too basic for my taste. Some audio would be nice too.

In the future I think you should try focusing on having keyboard controls (you can still add gamepad controls too) and having a single player mode so more people can try the game.

King of the world by Linus 2017-05-06T13:34:39Z

I really like the concept, but I didn't enjoy the actual game that much. I don't think the turn timer adds anything but frustration, at least with how short it currently is. The game seemed to have trouble registering my clicks, which only compounded the issue. The one time I made some decent progress I got screwed over by missing multiple turns due to the clicks not working.

The visuals are fairly simple, but they work well. The different colours are helpful for telling which countries you control. The audio is pretty decent - I quite like the voice lines you get when performing actions.

Daylight by conrad123 2017-05-09T13:06:33Z

I did eventually manage to make it to the end, but this game is way too difficult. Many of the jumps require ridiculous precision, and there are often multiple of these precise jumps in a row. I also don't like the energy mechanic. All it really does is make failing jumps more frustrating since not only have you lost progress, you've also wasted energy too. However, I do really like the idea of gravity getting weaker as you move higher. It creates a nice sense of progression and allows the gameplay to naturally change to keep things varied. I think the game could have focused on that mechanic more. Perhaps the gravity could start stronger to emphasise the change, and the camera could zoom out to let you see further when your jumps get higher. Regardless, the graphics are simple but they all look pretty good. There's a nice use of solid colours, plus it's really cool how the sky gradually gets darker as you move upwards.

Starstruck Ducky by HuvaaKoodia 2017-04-29T01:58:31Z

Cute game. The graphics look nice and those are some top notch duck sound effects. Some of the dialogue lines are funny, too. The gameplay is pretty interesting and unique. It's also fairly simple to understand, though I feel it could get a bit too easy to win once you understand it.

D.A.D.S. (Destitute Agoraphobic Dad Simulator) by chunkybrewster 2017-05-04T06:22:21Z

Interesting use of the theme, and interesting game overall. The graphics work pretty well, though the phone clashes a bit with everything else. The sounds are appropriate and the music is nice. Some of the interactions are pretty funny too. However, I feel there could be more things to interact, and maybe more differences between the days. I guess the repetition is arguably the point, but I still think it would me more interesting if there was more stuff to do.

SUPER METROARIO by puppetmaster 2017-05-06T12:08:11Z

This is a pretty well designed metroidvania with a good amount of content, especially given the time-frame. There's a well thought out progression of items as you move through the game, and I think I even saw some potential sequence breaks. The overall goal of adding colours to a grey world is quite interesting and it's neat how adding colours changes the world slightly.

That said, there are a few flaws. The fact that the camera only moves when at the edges is annoying and leads to blind jumps. The jumping is awkward - there should be some gravity/acceleration to it rather than just going straight up and down. The game's reliance on hidden blocks feels really cheap, especially since your fire rate is so low. Even when you're shooting in the right area it can be hard to hit the destroyable blocks.

The graphics are alright and the zoom in/out at the start/end is really cool. The music's not amazing or anything, but it was fairly good and it never got annoying even after a pretty lengthy amount of time.

Overall, it's a really nice game with a few clear issues.

Flight Club by dj_pale 2017-05-19T01:04:14Z

Neat game. It's a pretty unique concept and its executed quite well. I would have liked it if the airports were spaced out a bit so you had more routing options. It also feels like is starts off a bit too difficult. Other than that, the visual style is nice and the music is quite good.

Walkabout by Galan 2017-05-04T05:29:10Z

Nice little experience. The graphical style is pretty interesting with all the outlines. I really like the effects for the day/night cycle. The sound effects all work pretty well. The dialogue options are a neat concept but I feel they could've been expanded a bit. Perhaps if you had more diverse options, or the questions you had to answer were more meaningful? Regardless, I enjoyed it for what it was.

Mouse and Blade by superpokeunicorn 2017-05-04T03:28:19Z

This is a really cool game. I like how all the obstacles and enemies are made out of common objects. The graphics overall are quite nice, especially some of the mouse's animations. The sound effects and music are also very solid. The gameplay is fun too, with a nice variety of enemies. It can be a little tricky though. Perhaps the sword range could be slightly larger.

Little Lands by Mr_Field 2017-05-02T03:44:26Z

Really nice game! It takes a bit too understand how everything works, but once you it's quite fun.

I'm pretty terrible at games like this, though. My only means of wood production got taken out by one of the enemies without me realising so I didn't have enough wood to build new defenses when more enemies came. I didn't have enough workers to make more wood and I didn't have enough wood to get more workers. I tried harvesting trees to get more but it all fell apart pretty quickly.

Anyway... The graphics look great and music sounds quite nice. Overall, it's a really well made game.

Rock-E by endlesspeak 2017-05-12T07:14:11Z

Gneiss game. The graphics are great - lots of subtle animations and details. The audio is also good. The voice acting is a nice touch and some of the dialogue is kind of funny too. It's fun walking around and interacting with stuff. I don't understand why the controls are reversed when walking between buildings, though.

Agaric Abyss by chris-delta 2017-05-02T08:58:38Z

This seems really cool. The mechanics are very interesting and definitely allow for some complex puzzles. I'm really impressed by the how the water behaves and looks, as well as how the mushrooms move and bounce when you land on them. The graphics look great overall. The background ambience is also nice.

Unfortunately, it's too difficult for me. I managed to progress up a few ledges before getting stumped by an area that seems way too high to reach. Even after building an elaborate staircase of mushrooms I still couldn't figure out a way to get up. I think the game may have been a bit better if the difficulty increase was more gradual. It would also be nice if you could jump through the mushroom tops from below.

It's a Small World, So Let's Crash It into Things by simonhutchinson 2017-05-02T13:52:52Z

Neat idea. The gradual scaling up of your world provides an interesting progression as eventually worlds that were once bigger than you turn into small fodder. I like how the dark star provides an end goal. Speaking of that: the audio is quite good, especially how it changes when the dark star approaches. The graphics aren't extraordinary but they work well enough. The only real issue I have is the way the camera moves in weird chunks.

It's a Small World, So Let's Crash It into Things by simonhutchinson 2017-05-03T12:17:36Z

Sorry for this bit of self-promotion, but you commented on my game earlier asking if there was any chance of a web (or Mac) build. I managed to get a web version working, so you can try it now if you like.

Conquestia by juxipolo 2017-05-19T13:00:53Z

This isn't really my type of game, but it's definitely very well made. The visuals look nice and help to create a board game feel. The UI seems relatively intuitive too. It can be pretty infuriating when you perfectly plan an attack with a high number of troops of the right type, then end up getting stomped because of unlucky dice rolls. I guess that's just the nature of these sorts of games, though.

A World of Death! by tompudding 2017-05-07T11:13:57Z

Even though you didn't manage to fully make it resemble the ride, it's a clever take on the theme. The atmosphere is cool with all the lighting effects and the creepy music. The sound effects are pretty goofy, but I really enjoyed them. The umbrella mechanics are also pretty neat. It's fun bouncing enemies away with it. The enemies can be a bit hard to see/hit once they get in the boat, though. Also, your heath should reset when you die. Currently you basically have to restart the whole game if you reach a checkpoint with too little health.

Small World Sim by pyokoanarogue 2017-05-12T12:21:45Z

Neat game. The instructions and interface are a bit daunting at first but after I figured out how everything worked it was pretty fun. It's neat being able to rotate to see the other side of planet, but it almost seems pointless as I managed to complete all the goals without ever using it. The graphics for the world and buildings are nice, but the UI seems a bit disorganised. Some sound effects would be welcome. The music is nice though.

@smiling-cat-entertainment It also took me a few tries to get the below $20 goal. I could be wrong about this but I think the game checks for goals at the end of each day. If I'm correct, then the goal should only be completed if you have less than $20 after getting your funds for the day.

Get Off My Lawn by xentai-inside 2017-05-19T11:30:48Z

Really cool game. It's a shame it's so short. The graphics are fantastic and the music is cool. The short animation when you start is a nice touch. The gameplay is pretty fun too, though I would have liked a bit more variety in enemies and a more challenging final boss.

El Escubo's Key Quest by jellonator00 2017-05-14T10:49:09Z

Neat game. The graphics look really nice, with a great level of detail and variety. The background also looks very good. The music is also nice, but it could use some sound effects. The psuedo-3D effect works quite well and it's cool getting upgrades at the game progresses. It's pretty unintuitive how you need an additional item to get across gaps the are small enough for you to jump over, though.

World Tetris by mde 2017-05-12T10:26:15Z

The idea is pretty clever and this game seems like it could be pretty cool. However, The blocks move way too slowly (left to right) to give you any chance of placing them where you want, especially considering how far away from the planet they can start and how quickly they speed up. I think if you fixed that once thing the game would be a lot better.

The graphics are fairly simple but look quite nice. Some sound would be good, though.

Welcome to the Show by jdoughty 2017-05-05T05:07:34Z

It's hard to comment on much since the game's so obviously unfinished, but I do like the look of the visuals and the music is good. The main menu with a help section is also a nice touch. It's a shame you didn't have time to do more.

There were a few bugs, but this is the most significant one: When you die the value of the enemy counter becomes too large, making it impossible to finish. I think it might be adding the amount of enemies that were left when you died to the counter.

Welcome to the Show by jdoughty 2017-05-07T23:29:26Z

I was playing the Windows version.

It Seemed so big... by lozzadawg 2017-05-17T12:11:12Z

There seem to be an interesting sort of interplanetary ecosystem here, but I would have preferred it if there were some tangible goals. The graphics look good (but I think there could be some more variety in the planets). The music is a bit annoying, though.

Pixel Town by automatonvx 2017-05-19T01:30:05Z

Neat game. It's pretty enjoyable slowly building up a town to accomplish the goal. It's a shame there aren't more levels. The graphics are simple but they work well. The music is nice too. I feel like there should be some way to generate money without a mine as you can get stuck if you don't immediately build a one. It can also be tricky to tell where a building will be placed sometimes.

A Small World by Genpaku 2017-05-04T03:46:45Z

Fairly simple game, but it can also be quite fun. I really like getting the rapid fire powerup and blasting all the enemies with it. I kind of like the visual style, and the sound effects work well enough. Some music would be nice though.

A couple of issues with the scoreboard: * When you return the title after losing the highscores seems to display twice. * This could be intentional, but it seems like some of the names/scores you used for testing are still in the game.

Also, you should put a screenshot on the game page itself instead of linking to it.

Small World Mining Company by paulhocker 2017-05-11T07:12:06Z

Neat game! The graphics are really nice. The sound is okay but some of the effects were irritating and it could use some music. I liked the idea of the game being turned based, but it was brought down somewhat by the seemingly unpredictable enemies. If they have a pattern I certainly couldn't see it. It's fun as it is, but I think the game would be better if you addressed that one issue. I could only make it to Level 5.

Bullet Wrap by Chao 2017-05-01T11:23:59Z

Pretty cool game. The central premise is very interesting both on its own and as a use of the theme. I wish it was emphasised a bit more, though - you have to take quite a few hits before you can even notice the change.

The basic gameplay is fairly good, but it's a bit awkward how you have free movement but can only shoot forwards. I think it would make more sense to have a game where you have free movement and free aim, or a game where you're constantly moving forwards and constantly shooting forwards. Aside from that, the variety of enemies is very impressive.

Though I wish there was more in terms of audio, the graphics are pretty nice. I really like the parallax effect with the stars.

Polar Protector by AlexHoratio 2017-04-27T08:22:17Z

Really nice game. The graphics and sound are both great. The mechanic of absorbing different elements to combat enemies is also very cool and it makes for a fun and hectic game as you have to constantly be going back and forth to get the right element. Another thing I really like is the encouraging messages that show up: "Your grandparents would be proud"! "Your hometown is a tourist attraction!"

One thing you could add is having the enemies show up on the mini-map in the top right. That might make it a bit easy though.

Mr. Smith by unoion 2017-05-08T13:12:06Z

Neat little game. The main mechanic is pretty cool and leads to interesting puzzle solving. I like how you can take shortcuts by falling down a line of platforms instead of jumping across them. Having a fixed perspective may make the controls confusing sometimes. The view could rotate with the character to some degree, though that might get disorienting. Having to restart from the beginning also got frustrating. I think the game might work better with multiple smaller levels instead one large-ish one. Anyway, I really enjoyed the graphical style. The music is a bit repetitive, but the sound effects are nice.

Pie Planet : Octopus flavour by Bomb-X 2017-05-13T09:03:02Z

This is a really cool game. The visuals are really nice and the music and sound effects are overall well done. The gameplay's pretty interesting as well with a neat balance of managing different resources as well as trying to protect your building from various threats. I unfortunately never managed to complete the game because the build menu stopped working properly after I tabbed out for a bit.

A couple issues: * The tutorial didn't quite work for me. When it told me to make something to get rid of the alien I made the building that repels aliens instead of the item that removes an alien. This meant the tutorial didn't progress and I was forced to figure everything out by myself. Maybe the tutorial should only give one option at a time. * It seems to require an excessive amount of energy to power everything. It felt like almost half the things I built were power generators.

Overall though, great work.

Sandelipe Boxenan by MestreRothLD 2017-05-07T10:53:50Z

Really neat concept for a game. It's pretty cool watching all the creatures roam around and eat each other. The visuals are pretty nice and the menus look really slick. The music and sound effects are great too. If there was any improvements that could be made it would be to give the player some more meaningful ways to interact with things. My best score was 29.

The Core by ectucker1 2017-05-12T03:50:01Z

Nice puzzle game. I like the idea of moving towards the core of the planet and how the layers disappear as you complete puzzles. The graphics are good (I really like the space background) but can be a bit plain. The music is great. The level select is somewhat unintuitive. Pressing left/right seems to take you to completely random places, so I mostly just played whatever level was automatically selected. The puzzles are neat but can be somewhat simple - the portals are easily abused and the ice never seems to add anything. I also had an issue where the game didn't return to the level select properly after I finished a level. I played the game twice and this happened both times. You can see what happened in this screenshot: thecore.JPG

Ninja-Vu by doomshmuck 2017-05-12T14:41:00Z

The music is pretty nice and the sounds work well. The graphics aren't so great, but at the very least it's easy to tell what everything does by looking at it. I like the idea of the stealth gameplay and it sort of works here, but there are some questionable things. I find it strange how the enemies can see through walls - it leads to some unintuitive gameplay. There is also a lot of waiting for enemies to move involved in the game. Perhaps there could be some way to temporarily speed up the game so you don't have to wait so much?

House 0.1.0(top down shooter) by thelonelynug 2017-05-11T07:30:21Z

The graphics look kind of cool - I especially like the sprites for the player and enemies. I also like the enemy AI. It's nice how they react to you shooting, and their path finding seems pretty good. The rest seems a bit unfinished and buggy. It's a good start, but it doesn't really feel like a finished jam game. It doesn't have any obvious connection to the theme, either.

Supernova by Veralos 2017-04-27T05:29:51Z

@alexhoratio Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, the level variety is definitely the main thing I wanted to improve if I had more time. The soundtrack was made with BeepBox (http://www.beepbox.co).

@shodanon The planets (and their names) are partially randomly generated, so I have no idea what Planet Barron entails. But I'm glad you liked it anyway.

@Takusan Thanks! I'll see if I can find more time/ideas to expand it in the future.

Supernova by Veralos 2017-04-27T12:14:57Z

@huvaakodia I can certainly see where you're coming from. As said previously, I would've liked to add more obstacles or items to the planets if I had more time. Currently they can be a bit bland. As for difficulty: I'm not sure how far you got, but the planets do get more difficult as you get closer to the star. I actually tried to make this game fairly easy as my games are typically a bit too hard. Perhaps I went too far in the opposite direction.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback and I'm glad you liked the presentation.

Supernova by Veralos 2017-04-29T12:21:14Z

@jupiter-hadley Thanks for featuring it. I'll definitely check out the video.

@avon I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yes, I'm certainly seeing now that I should have reduced the number of planets (and the size of the solar system).

Supernova by Veralos 2017-05-01T07:43:11Z

@flipsy Thanks for the feedback. I haven't put too much thought into how to extend it yet, so any suggestions are welcome.

@chao There's actually only 3 different tracks that get randomly assigned to each of the 12 planets, but I must be doing something right if you didn't notice the repetition too much.

@samurai-spark Thanks.

Supernova by Veralos 2017-05-01T09:55:01Z

@ratbag I'm glad you liked it. I used Game Maker: Studio (game and graphics), Bfxr (sound effects) and BeepBox (music). I'll add that information to the description.

Supernova by Veralos 2017-05-02T03:14:46Z

@kabalatrance I assume by "level two" you mean the second ring of planets? Yes, that's certainly when the challenge picks up bit.

@mr-field Glad you enjoyed the choice that the looping gives you. I made you return to the ship when you die specifically so that you have a chance to try going the other way.

@mathijsvissers Thanks. Sorry about the lack of musical variety and difficulty.

Supernova by Veralos 2017-05-03T03:52:49Z

@wildmusketeer It's good to hear that you enjoyed all those details.

@meronsoda Don't tell anyone, but the drone has treads mainly because they're a lot easier to animate than actual legs. I don't know if I'm that great with scope - this was maybe a bit too ambitious with two different control styles and the random generation (which I'd never done before), but I managed to get the basics done. I've used Bfxr and Game Maker (at least the previous versions) for a while, but I only started using BeepBox fairly recently.

When it comes to playing LD games, I want to base my ratings on the original submission so that's the version I will generally play. I'm sorry if I commented about an issue that you had fixed in an updated version.

@mewsoul Glad you liked the planet names - one of my favourite parts of the game is the silly planet names it generates. I'm surprised you're the first person to have difficulty with landing. The ship controls could be polished a bit.

@simonhutchinson The engine I used (Game Maker Studio) requires specific modules to export to platforms other than Windows. Unfortunately, these are no longer available for the version I used. To create a Mac/Web version I would need to purchase the newer version and port the game to it. It's possible - and since you've expressed interest I'll try looking into it - but I can't make any guarantees.

Supernova by Veralos 2017-05-03T12:10:17Z

@simonhutchinson Good news! I managed to get a web version working. It's now available on the same page as the Windows version.

Supernova by Veralos 2017-05-04T01:15:40Z

@simonhutchinson Thanks for trying it out. The lack of stuff on the planets is a common criticism. There are obstacles on the second and third ring of planets, but I should have introduced them earlier.

Supernova by Veralos 2017-05-04T10:50:07Z

Woah, that's a lot of comments to reply to. Well, here we go...

@jdoughty I don't know if I really put that much thought into all the "subtle choices", but I'm glad you appreciated them anyway.

@chris-delta Sorry about having to redo challenges. I underestimated how many unique rooms I would need to avoid noticeable repeats.

@ryujr Thanks for playing. What sound effects were too loud?

@joatski The third area is supposed to be harder than the second, but it's done in a bit of a roundabout way: I originally planned to create "easy", "medium" and "hard" screens that would be used for each successive area. In the end I only had time to make "easy" and "hard" screens. The first area uses only "easy", the third area uses only "hard" and the second uses a mix of both. This means that sometimes the second and third areas aren't that different since they both use the "hard" screens.

@primitive-concept The ship controls can certainly be a bit tricky. I might try allowing you to turn in place if/when I make a post-LD version.

@sean-m Good job destroying the solar system! It's always cool to see screenshots from players. I don't think the random generation would work for a speedrun game, but it's good to hear you found the routing options interesting.

@superpokeunicorn I'm glad you liked the presentation. I suppose I could have tried to fit the theme better, but I already had a vague idea for a game like this and the theme was close enough that it seemed like a good opportunity to try bringing that idea to life.

@philomory Yeah, I thought "procedural generation" (that phrase sounds a bit grandiose for my primitive attempt) would be an interesting challenge. I think I managed to pull it off okay, but there are definitely a lot of things I could have done better.

@fangzhangmnm I appreciate the detailed feedback. I don't know if you noticed it, but the minimap in the top right gives you a good idea of where nearby planets are. Still, an arrow couldn't hurt. Requiring only a certain portion of the ore/crystals is a very good idea that I wish I'd considered earlier. I did try to have a difficulty increase as you move closer to the star, but it could be done better.

@megalink If I was able to do things differently, I probably would've reduced the "good amount of content" in exchange for making it less repetitive/boring. Quality over quantity and all that.

Supernova by Veralos 2017-05-05T01:48:30Z

@puppetmaster I hope the minimap was easy enough to understand once you figured it out. I didn't really think about adding an explanation for it.

@linus I'm pleased you liked the concept.

Supernova by Veralos 2017-05-08T12:17:16Z

@chaseplays It's nice to know you enjoyed it so much. The ship's turning being based on its speed seemed logical when making the game, but it can make landing unnecessarily tricky. I might change that in a future version.

Supernova by Veralos 2017-05-09T13:54:27Z

@grasswhopper I'm sorry that it took you a few tries to figure things out. I didn't plan for a way to explain the basic premise. Glad you liked the mini-map. I though it was a pretty crucial to have one to make it easy to figure out where to go.

Supernova by Veralos 2017-05-10T10:46:55Z

@wheffle Giving planets their own themes is a good idea that I'll look into for future versions. Reworking the ship controls is also something I'll look into.

@kataware Thanks for the detailed feedback. The variety of the planets is certainly the main thing to be improved (for both visuals and gameplay). It's good to know you liked the darker background. For a few of the areas I added some pointless platforms just so the background tiles would make things more visually interesting (the game automatically adds background tiles below platforms).

@clickmation A boss in the centre isn't something I ever thought about and I'm not sure how much sense it would make, but it's definitely worth considering.

Supernova by Veralos 2017-05-13T02:26:52Z

@kodiqi Thanks! I'm glad you liked it.

The planet names are actually generated by randomly combining a first half and second half, but I could certainly add the halves of "Kodiqi" to the system.

Supernova by Veralos 2017-05-13T13:31:16Z

@rjhelms Sorry about the music loops. I don't know much about making music and the time restriction didn't help. I'm glad you liked the rest, though.

@occultone Thanks for checking out the game. Sorry I wasn't there for the stream.

@phi Killing yourself isn't much of an exploit; I always knew it about it. I guess you could consider it a special tactic for players that can figure it out. Anyway, thanks for playing. It's nice to know you managed to make it to the end.

Supernova by Veralos 2017-05-14T11:17:03Z

@jellonator00 Thanks. I think it's important for dying to return you to the ship (so you have a chance to explore the planet in a different direction) but perhaps I could have allowed you to take multiple hits.

Supernova by Veralos 2017-05-17T03:34:46Z

@tuomo The style of the game wasn't supposed to resemble any particular system, but that's neat if it did.

@kwisarts Unfortunately, I didn't realise how many screens I would need to make to avoid noticeable repeats (and there's nothing in the code that stops it from happening).

Supernova by Veralos 2017-05-19T02:56:49Z

@geckoo1337 Thanks, I'm glad you liked the aesthetic. Making you return to the ship when you die was done so that you would have a chance to explore the planet from the other direction. I probably could have given you extra hits or something so it's not as annoying.

@dj-pale The terrain is slightly smaller than it looks, so perhaps that's why you fell off when you thought you should've jumped. There's no delay to the jump - I can't really do much to fix it short of letting you jump in mid-air.

@automatonvx Glad you enjoyed it. I thought the wrapping was neat too. Sorry, about the length - the comments have made it clear that I really should have toned that down.

Enceladus by mgoadric 2017-05-19T12:27:51Z

I managed to wrap my head around the idea of moving each astronaut in turn and having the moves played back. However, I can't understand the rules for what happens when astronauts collide. I got to level 7 through a bit of trial an error but no further. It seems like it could be a cool puzzle game if it was a bit more intuitive or there was more clear explanation.

Sand Runner by Voivy 2017-05-17T08:42:08Z

Cool little runner game. The graphics are quite nice - I like the trail behind the main character and the effect when enemies die. The sounds are pretty simple, but they work well. Some music would be nice, though. The gameplay can be fun when you get a good rhythm going. However, the gravity feels too low so it's hard to have much control over where you land (even with the fall faster button) and the level generation can create some very difficult jumps. At the very least I think there should be a larger flat bit of ground where you start so you have more of a chance to react when the game begins.

Horizons by Joseph Benton 2017-05-19T13:24:02Z

I don't know how much I should be complimenting you on the presentation, but the graphics are cute and the music is quite nice (it creates a good "space" atmosphere). The gameplay is enjoyable when it works (I really like using bombs to propel the character towards planets). Unfortunately, there's a lot of waiting for planets to move which slows the game down too much for my taste.

Gate Breaker by GrassWhopper 2017-05-08T14:21:34Z

Interesting idea, though it would probably make more sense with a randomised password. The visual style is quite cool, and both the player and the enemies look good. It can be fun shooting enemies, but it feels like you move a bit slow and a visible heath bar is needed. Some sound effects would also be nice.

Destroy Blocks by D-Studios 2017-05-11T06:15:37Z

It's basic but functional, and there's some enjoyment in trying to beat your high score. The simple graphics are okay and the music is decent. The ability to turn gravity off is interesting but seemed kind of tricky to use. There are a few things that drag it down, though: * The game is really laggy. I don't know how you would fix this, but it makes the game a lot less enjoyable. * The controls are somewhat unintuitive, and it feels odd not being able to turn. I think it would work better with WASD to move, mouse to aim, and Left Click to break blocks. * The concept seems fairly dull and is barely related to the theme. I would have liked some more flavour even if the gameplay was just as simple. Perhaps the blocks could be bad guys you need to stop, or maybe you're a cleaner who needs to get rid of some debris. I don't know, just something to make the game feel like more than just cubes.

The Escapist by mohammad 2017-04-26T10:44:02Z

I tried it but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be doing or what the controls are. Could you provide a more detailed description on these details, especially for those of us that are not familiar with Roblox?

A World In Her Eye by OrbitalBlueprint 2017-04-26T10:28:04Z

Cute little game. I really like the atmosphere and story. I also appreciate that it has multiple endings. The graphics are quite nice (outside of the graphical bug with the water), though I'm not a fan of Qora's walking animation. The music is also nice. The one thing I don't really like is how the planet actually moves in real time. It does enhance the atmosphere, but I feel the time pressure it adds doesn't really benefit the game (I like exploring and examining everything).

A couple issues: * If you interact with Exupery after using the biofuel the same dialogue/animation will replay * If you talk to Exupery a third time after putting in the battery, the game will crash with this message:

``` Error
A World In Her Eye by OrbitalBlueprint 2017-05-19T03:47:38Z
This was the first game I played this Ludum Dare, but I decided to revisit it. Something about it just stuck with me. I played the post-jam version and it looks like you've made some nice additions.
Sorry if I was a little critical with my initial comment - it's sort of hard to gauge your expectations without playing a few games. This is definitely among the best in terms of mood and music, and the visuals are up there too (especially now you've fixed that water bug). I bumped up some of my ratings because I feel the game deserves it.
Unlock by tempestCognitor 2023-05-12T10:24:15Z
Nice first entry! I like the idea of being a defenseless little mouse. Having the cats be so large in comparison makes them feel quite intimidating, plus it's fun darting into small areas where they can't get you.
The individual sprites look good, but I'm not a fan of having rotated and differently sized pixels. Music is cool though, and a nice thing to see in a compo entry.
I want to rate the game, but I can't seem to do it. The ratings are showing as "final" results, despite there still being a week left for rating. Any idea what that's about?
Capture.PNG
Unlock by tempestCognitor 2023-05-17T14:54:03Z
@tempestcognitor Oops! That would explain the rating thing then. Oh well, still had a fun time playing the game.
The Epic Quest For The Mighty Croissant by 0x0 2017-04-27T07:51:25Z
The graphics look really nice and the music is quite good too. The effect of the view rotating as you switch between different areas is cool. Using the mouse to guide the player works quite well, but the combat is a bit awkward. I also had the problem of enemies spawning infinitely after I died, both lagging the game and making it almost impossible to progress (I restarted and finished it the second time).
SlapR by MewSoul 2017-05-03T15:19:05Z
I tried both Keyboard/Mouse and Xbox 360 Controller and couldn't seem to get my penguin to slap consistently with either. Is there some sort of trick to it?
CryoDream .2 by KeenMustDie 2017-05-18T13:27:41Z
It's not much of a game (nor does it have anything to do with the theme), but it's still very cool. I think it would be even better if it took up the whole screen and you could remove the music display thing.
Space^3 by boats 2017-05-17T09:31:27Z
This is a really cool idea for a game. It's neat fighting enemies while switching been different surfaces of the planet. However, you die way too easily (especially considering how much progress you lose when dying). I also feel like you should speed up and slow down faster. Right now the movement's a bit awkward. The select-able upgrades are a nice addition, though. The music is really good and the effect for switching between surfaces of a planet looks really cool. Unfortunately, the game seemed to stop working after I got the third upgrade.
Around The World in 80 Seconds by Shaolin Dave 2017-05-17T10:15:11Z
I made it!
Health: 34% Time: 34.84 Total Score: 1530
Nice take on the theme. Do you actually have to complete the game in 80 seconds or was that just for the sake of the title? Anyway, it's pretty cool how the different countries have different backgrounds and different types of enemies. The difficulty is a bit high, though - it feels like it's almost impossible to avoid all the enemies. Perhaps it would work better if you took more damage but the attacks were easier to avoid. There should also be a health indicator. The graphics are quite nice but the sound is a bit lacking. It would be really cool if there was a dynamic soundtrack that gradually shifted to suit each location. That's obviously infeasible for the time given but I'm just throwing an idea out there.
Angry Worlds by MeronSoda 2017-04-30T03:33:25Z
Pretty decent platformer. The visuals and audio are alright, and the controls feel good. The star enemies that charge at you are pretty neat and the double jump is a nice addition. I'm not a fan of how enemies can knock you back, though. The final boss was too had for me to beat, but I did like the mechanic of slingshotting the moons back at the boss - I would've liked to see a similar mechanic in more places in the game.
Legends Of Block by sagarpatel25700 2017-05-13T04:20:34Z
Pretty cool game. It's fun jumping and dashing around the place. For such a small level there a lot of interesting things going on with the bounce pad and moving platform and such. I feel there are a few dodgy elements though. Your ammo count seems way too low - you can kill maybe one or two enemies before it runs out. You shouldn't take damage when jumping on or dashing into enemies, especially since that's the only wait to fight outside of using your limited bullets. The graphics are very basic, but they work. The sounds and music are nice, though the game music doesn't stop when you quit to the menu.
Dog Park Lovers by muffintrap 2017-04-26T11:45:25Z
The graphics are super cute and it's amusing following the dogs' conversations. It's a shame there isn't more to it, though. Some sounds and music would be nice at the very least.
Momma ZILLA by Sean M 2017-05-04T04:00:33Z
Nice game. It's pretty fun once you get a hang of the blink mechanic. I like the idea of collecting babies to cause more destruction. The pixel style looks very nice and the music is good too - though it can a bit repetitive.
The one big issue I encountered is that I got stuck off the left side of the screen multiple times. It would be nice if this could be fixed somehow.
My score was 4534.
Rock my Ship by Hethsin 2017-05-02T12:41:41Z
Could you put the controls and objective on the game page somewhere? The game window is too tall for my screen and I think that parts of the controls/objective sections are being cut off.
Mzae by Tristan0214 2017-05-18T14:10:09Z
The animations for the main character are really good, and the enemy animations are good too. Unfortunately, the background is blurry and the enemies/obstacles can blend into it. The music is great, but the game could really use some sound effects. The movement is a little slippery and there doesn't seem to be any reason to go up to the higher platforms. I do think the ideas behind the mechanics are pretty cool, though. The shield in particular is a neat addition.
Colorfly by Zelos 2017-05-02T13:28:44Z
The music is beautiful, and the visuals are very nice to look at as well. They both work together to create an excellent atmosphere for the game. The gameplay isn't that exciting but it can be surprisingly fun just flying around and collecting stuff. I'm pretty impressed by how many levels you managed to make, including a pseudo-boss battle. The intro and outro also helped to make the game fell really polished overall.
Unfortunately, I only managed to get 28/30 trees.
Draw a Small World by ryan 2017-05-16T13:52:49Z
I really like the idea. It's simple but it works and it's pretty fun seeing what you end up with in the end.
Qwer CiTy by Le Slo 2017-05-12T04:56:00Z
Clever idea for a game. The control style is very interesting, but I'm pretty terrible with it. Perhaps if it was more lenient with what qualifies as a close enough building or if there was some guide as to what keys are where it might be easier. As it is, I really like the concept but it's a bit too tricky for me to make much progress. The visuals are really nice, though. I like the details with the buildings lighting up as you press the corresponding key and the building for the H key having a helipad on top. The music and sound effects are also great. Unfortunately, the game ended up crashing with this error:
___________________________________________ ############################################################################################ FATAL ERROR in action number 1 of Step Event0 for object obj_enemy:
Variable obj_enemy.(100009, -2147483648) not set before reading it. at gml_Object_obj_enemy_Step_0 ############################################################################################
Kanjo by Kataware 2017-05-09T10:01:12Z
The concept seems interesting, but it feels like it was way too ambitious for the limited time available. I liked the introductory narration, but the rest of the story didn't really click with me. A bit of rewriting and proofreading would help, as well having time to see everything happen so it doesn't seem so rushed. The graphics are nice for the most part - I really like the pixel art for the characters. However, where the game truly excels is with the beautiful music. It really helps to sell the mood.
Big Ship on a Small World by Samcam 2017-04-26T10:58:16Z
I quite like the graphical style of the planets and the spaceship. However, many of the planets aren't visible or are partially cut off. The text doesn't look as good and the colours can sometimes make it hard to see. As for the game itself, it's an interesting idea but I don't think it was fully realised. Perhaps you could flesh out the planets' personalities a bit more and provide some more meaningful dialogue options.
Theatre Throw-Down by Ratbag 2017-05-01T12:15:19Z
Nice game. It's fun fighting enemies, and can get pretty addictive trying to get further than you did last time. You should be given a second to see the arena before the battle starts, though - it's very easy to die to enemies spawning next to you.
The graphics and sounds effect are pretty good. The music is decent too, but it can get a little repetitive.
My best was 780 points and 8 battles.
Strangeness by philomory 2017-05-06T03:14:15Z
Nice game. The graphics look decent for the most part, the music is pretty good and the sound effects are appropriate. The text between each level helps to add a bit of atmosphere. I like all the different puzzle elements and how they end up being combined in different ways. I would have liked it to be longer, but the short length is understandable given the time-frame.
Kaleidoscope by Maz_Hem 2017-05-20T03:48:35Z
Interesting idea for a game, and well done execution. The different images you can create look really cool. Unfortunately, the music stopped after a while.
Greedy Pigeon by jmborden 2017-04-26T11:20:40Z
I absolutely love the a capella soundtrack. The game over sound is really nice too. The graphics are also good, but they could use some more animation. The gameplay isn't amazingly fun, but it's functional and is enjoyable enough. I think you could probably explain it a bit more for people who haven't played Q'Bert, though.
Planetoid Piracy by RobotSoulsGames 2017-05-19T04:55:47Z
This is a really cool game. It's fun being able to build new stuff onto your planet, and it seems like there are a lot of features for such a short time. Is there an actual end goal or do you just fly around to collect stuff to improve your planet? The controls feels a little awkward - using different keys for getting on/off the chair is confusing, for instance. The graphical is pretty nice. I don't think the music really meshes well with the retro visual and sound effects, though.
Capture.JPG
More than a Pixel by CAREFACE 2017-05-15T08:37:10Z
This is pretty neat. The visuals look nice and the music/sound is good. The gameplay is fairly standard but works well. I wasn't expecting a second level with a gameplay change, so that was a nice surprise. Using A and Space for the controls feels a bit awkward. You probably could have chosen keys that were a bit closer together. It would be interesting to see an extended version with some different types of levels.
Slightly Angry Max by Takusan 2017-04-27T09:31:12Z
Cool game. The intro was kind of funny, and shooting enemies is pretty fun - especially once you get the rapid fire power-up. It's really cool that it can stack, though the shooting sound seems to stop working when your fire rate gets too high. The main issue I had is that you move very slowly. This makes it very hard to avoid bullets. I'm not sure how much I should comment on the music and graphics as you didn't make (most of) them, but at the very least you made good choices there.
Tiny Hero by arch-a-type 2017-05-11T07:58:38Z
Very nice game! There's a nice bit of strategy in choosing which enemy to fight first and when to use stuns, which is really enhanced by the RPG elements. I like all the different enemies that get introduced as the game progresses. I made it past wave 15 then got destroyed by the dark mages (I think that's what they were) that are seemingly immune to being stunned. I'm not sure how much of the graphics/audio you made, but at the very least the visuals and music were used to good effect.
PiP: A multi-layered puzzle game by Clickmation 2017-05-09T10:23:41Z
This is a really neat mechanic so it's a shame the game's so short. The game has a ton of potential and I really hope it gets extended. Imagine levels where you have to go down 2 or more layers to progress!
As for the game right now, it's pretty cool but can be a bit sluggish. You move fairly slow and transitions between layers could be smoother. The laser block also seems pretty glitchy - it took me numerous tries and retries to get it to turn on/off correctly. The graphics are very nice and the music is good too, but some more sound effects would we welcome.
Clean the Dorm by fangzhangmnm 2017-05-06T04:14:39Z
This is a really cool concept for a game, and I love the combination of real life photos and in-game graphics. It's actually pretty impressive how the images act as a real 3D environment: You can jump on top of things, you get properly occluded by things in front of you, etc. The music can get a bit grating, but overall the audio's pretty decent. The gameplay itself feels somewhat slow - I think it may have been better if the waves came faster/were shorter and the enemies were more aggressive.
AstroGunner by KabalaTrance 2017-05-01T12:50:48Z
The graphics and audio are pretty good (I like the creepy eye enemies), the theme is used well, and the gameplay has potential to be fun. However, the camera movement is way too disorienting for me to fully enjoy it. I would've liked the game a lot more had the camera been fixed to the ship.
Tiny Terraformer by Wheffle 2017-05-09T12:28:16Z
It's a really cool idea, and its executed quite well too. There are a nice amount of interlinked resources so you have to put thought into making the best planet. I like how it describes the quality of your planet at the end - mine sounded awful (very dry, minimal oxygen, high chance of carbon dioxide poisoning) but it was supposedly technically survivable. planetoid.png
In my defense, I had a lot of moisture until a meteor took out most of my H2O producers near the end. Anyway... The combination of a player character and clicking on stuff was a bit weird. I would suggest focusing solely on the character (automatically interacting with objects you're next to without needing to point the mouse at them) or solely on the mouse controls. The graphics are alright, and I like the little details like the water showing up as you get more moisture. The game could definitely use more audio, though.
A Tiny Place by grahhhhhhhhh 2017-05-07T05:10:11Z
I'm having similar issues to everyone else. I can't see the enemies shooting at me and pressing the shoot button just creates a yellow glow the first time I press it, which then becomes a yellow glow with a white square behind it when I try to shoot again. It also seems like the health isn't reset properly when you restart since you die almost immediately after restarting.
Despite those issues, the menu looks really nice, and the in-game graphics are pretty decent too. The music and sound effects are also good, though I'm not sure why they seem to be off by default. It's a shame about the bugs that make the game unplayable.
Blobbery by Odefus 2017-05-18T13:44:51Z
Neat little game with a few flaws. The graphics are really cute and well done. The music is nice at first but it get a bit grating after a while. Making the enemies knock you around instead of killing you is an interesting choice and it works pretty well. I wasn't a fan of the jump charge thing, though - it can be difficult to tell how high you will jump when you release the button.
Primordial Ooze by primitive-concept 2017-05-05T14:09:11Z
The visuals look really cool - the sort of graininess really helps to make the game feel like it's at a microscopic scale. The audio is also appropriate and creates a great atmosphere. Unfortunately it's quite hard to tell what's going on in the game even after reading the description. I think you're supposed to be injecting into deeper layers, but it can be hard to tell where you are when everything looks fairly samey. The concept definitely seems cool and interesting, I just wish I could figure out exactly what to do.
Incidental Dimension by wildmusketeer 2017-05-03T14:53:36Z
The box pushing puzzles feel relatively standard, but they're still well executed and there are a decent amount of mechanics to them. It can get a bit awkward when the boxes get stuck in the corner, though. However, where the game really shines is the visual style. The globe effect looks super cool and helps to display the theme. It's interesting how the game isn't actually on a sphere (as far as I can tell), it just looks that way.
Daily Routine: the smallest worlds are the ones we get stuck in by Samurai Spark 2017-05-01T11:54:59Z
Is there something I'm missing? I've entered the obvious password in various different ways and it never seems to work. I'm playing the Windows version in case that matters.
Daily Routine: the smallest worlds are the ones we get stuck in by Samurai Spark 2017-05-02T13:03:59Z
It turns out I was just trying the wrong password. Anyway, let's get to the actual feedback:
Very nice game! The graphics all look fantastic and the sounds work well enough. Some more sounds and music couldn't hurt, though. The use of the theme is quite clever, especially the secret message that comes along with it. Some parts of the game are pretty amusing - I especially enjoy the representation of the sports game. There could be more daily activities and the activities could be more interesting (the cereal part in particular is pretty dull) but I guess the boring repetition is arguably part of the point.
Giant!! A LD38 Game by Twistashio 2017-04-26T11:37:45Z
It looks kind of interesting, but unfortunately I can't seem to place anything. The building indicator only seems to follow the mouse half of the time too. The music is really good, though.
Alienus-Alienas by Brainy_Beard 2017-05-02T12:28:36Z
There's an interesting idea here, but in its current state I don't think the game quite captures it. The turrets seem to get damaged way too quickly, to that point that a turret's health is almost fully depleted the second after you stop fixing it. It would probably work better if they took damage slowly at the start, then the damage increased over time. I also found it unnecessarily difficult to jump up to the higher platforms (especially under pressure). The graphics look really good, though.
Planetary Garden by joatski 2017-05-05T13:50:36Z
ARR World by Simon Rahnasto 2017-05-16T08:08:32Z
Really nice game. The graphics look great, the audio sounds good - overall, the presentation's fantastic. The upgrading is pretty intuitive and seems to work well. It's also fun fighting other ships. I feel like there should be some way to take over the enemies' bases, though. If there was a way I couldn't figure it out.
Tumblin' down by Shodanon 2017-04-27T08:54:58Z
The audio is super good. I really enjoy the music and the sound of the stream. The graphics are also really good for the most part - the environment look nice, but the units and barracks are pretty boring. I'm not sure if I fully understood how the game works, but I managed to win it. It seems to be too easy in terms of combat. Just a couple of your guys can mow down a whole army of enemies. In the end I'm not really a RTS player so it's hard for me to judge, but overall it seems like there are some cool ideas here.
A tiny explorer in a tiny world by Kwisarts 2017-05-16T09:53:25Z
The graphics look great, with some nice detail. The sound/music is pretty good, too. Some of the text was amusing and the disco mode is cool. As you said though, there isn't much to it.
Let's Be Happy in Our Small World by Tuomo 2017-05-12T15:01:11Z
Really nice game! It seems simple at first but quickly gets quite challenging. It's pretty fun trying to keep your eye on all the different objects at once. The graphics are cute and the music/sounds were well chosen. All these things add up to give the game a really charming and fun feel. My score was 4388.
New God in the Town by erdiizgi 2017-05-19T12:04:35Z
I helped 26 people!
I really like the take on the theme. It's pretty clever. The gameplay idea is neat too. Unfortunately, it's a bit difficult to play. I wish it was easier to predict where people will go and what your directions will do. Currently it feels a bit random.
The graphics look nice, but some sound effects and music would be welcome.
Agoraphobia by Kodiqi 2017-05-13T03:11:19Z
Interesting take on the theme. The stress of getting far away enough from your house to collect items really conveys the concept well. I feel like the items could be a bit closer, though. After collecting the first few close ones it becomes almost impossible to get back to the house in time. It's probably intentional that the items get harder to reach as the game goes on but this increase should be more gradual. The graphics and audio are fairly simple but they work well enough. I especially like the effect of the red pulsing as you get too far away from the house. There should probably be more penalty for "dying", though.
Lymphocyte Counterattack by DropsOnly 2017-05-19T11:47:55Z
This seem like a potentially decent game but it's not quite there. The bullets move a bit slow and you move a bit fast. There should be more indication as to what the power-ups do (and what parts for the ultimate are and how many you have). I also couldn't find any way to restart after dying or winning. The visuals are pretty neat, though. There are some interesting models and a nice background texture. However, some sound effects would have made the game feel better. The beating sound in the background sets the mood quite well, but it seems to stop after some time.
Hasempfeffer by fishbrain 2017-12-10T12:01:12Z
Creative concept, and a great take on the theme. It's quite satisfying taking out a bunch of bunnies in a row, especially with the scoring system. I feel it can be a bit hard to tell where you are vertically in relation to the bunnies/gophers, though. The music and sounds are good. The graphics are mostly good too, but some parts look a bit pixellated.
One Final Task by HuvaaKoodia 2017-12-30T18:27:10Z
Really nice game. The puzzles are well designed and the individual mechanics are taught effectively. The dialogue is nice and adds a bit of extra personality to the game. The overall presentation is solid too. Like others, I wish there was an instant restart button.
Do you have the colour? by saintheiser 2017-12-10T11:25:54Z
It's fairly simple, but it's a neat idea and is executed quite well. It seems easy at first but quickly ramps up in challenge. It does seem success is dictated a bit by luck, though (whether you get given similar colours or not). The presentation looks clean, with some nice animations to add a bit of life. My best score was 23.
Lonk's Greedy Adventure by javicepa 2017-12-08T04:11:43Z
At first I though the jump seemed a bit too high and floaty, but it made sense after I figured out what was going on. The level design is very clever in how it depends on the items you have. I didn't like how you can sometimes get stuck, though. The visuals and music are good and there are also some funny moments. I got all the endings except the 4th one.
AGAINST GREED by shackra 2017-12-18T11:35:12Z
Interesting idea, but a bit limited in its current state. I would be interested to see what levels could be made if the concept were pushed further. The graphics generally look good, but the combination of pixel art and more smooth assets is a bit weird. I like how the title music is calm but the in game music is super hectic.
Samurai Shaver by DDRKirbyISQ 2017-12-19T01:18:25Z
This is fantastic! The music and overall sound design is great (as it kind of needs to be for a rhythm game), the visual style is really cool, and the game is a lot of fun to play. Everything is super polished, with lots of nice animations to make everything feel smooth. The gameplay is obviously Rhythm Heaven inspired, but I also like how the concept is the sort of wacky thing those games would do (though probably with less blood and almost-nudity).
One minor issue I noticed is that there doesn't seem to be a way quickly restart. This is annoying if you're trying to perfect a level. I played the compo version for rating purposes, so this may have been fixed in the post-jam release.
Sum of Its Parts by mrjoshuamclean 2017-12-15T01:42:27Z
The concept seems really cool but I feel it lacks a bit in execution. It's disappointing how you need all the parts to progress. I think it would be interesting if they were mostly optional and the player needed to consider the costs and benefits of getting a new part. The parts could also have more distinct abilities. However, I do like how you can fold away your extra parts when you don't need them (it seems the hitbox doesn't always get smaller but I imagine this is a bug). The music is great and suits the tone. The sound effects aren't on the same level as the music but they work well. I didn't enjoy the graphics as much - the inconsistent pixel sizes don't look great.
Dark Space 8 by SaraJS 2017-12-15T02:14:32Z
Cool game. The strategy/roguelike concept is neat and works well. The balance seems a bit off though. I got destroyed in the early rooms of my first attempt, but managed to escape fairly comfortably on my second. I like all the different events you can come across. They add a lot of flavor even if they're not always relevant to the game.
The visual style is very nice with some cool pixel art and smooth animations. The audio is lacking though. The sounds that are there are good but a lot seem to be missing. Some music would add a lot too, but it's not like I have much room to criticise there considering my game has a similar issue.
Askipaouf by shubart 2017-12-08T04:58:10Z
It's clearly unfinished, but what is there works well. I like how you can fly infinitely to the left or right (or maybe you just wrap around?). The graphics look pretty nice, especially the planets in the background.
Drunkest Dungeon by Alchemic 2017-12-09T02:27:00Z
Really cool game. The concept is neat and works well. It's interesting the enemies themselves don't actually damage you, they just make it harder to collect everything in time. The drunk effect is cool and feels appropriately difficult to control. The graphics are and music are both very nice. Some of the sound effects are a bit grating, though (mainly the sound when you get hit).
Mayfly by silkworm_sweatshop 2017-12-09T12:45:02Z
Very interesting and unique game. As you said, it's uncomfortable, but I was certainly absorbed by the story. The music works well and it's impressive how much the simple visuals add to the mood. It's also quite interesting how the choices often don't do what you expect.
Lava Cave by Goplite 2017-12-08T05:15:32Z
Cool game with some nice music and visuals (the stickman character isn't great, but it is well animated). It's fun trying to outrun the lava and I really the ledge grabs. The impulse cannon is cool but I would've liked it to be a bit more versatile. It doesn't seem to do much unless you use it right as you jump.
Company harder project by falak 2017-12-10T11:47:15Z
Interesting idea. It seems a bit confusing at first but once you understand it can be fun trying to balance all the aspects of your company. The unique events are neat. The mini-games are also cool, but I think they could fit into the company theme more. The interface and art is really the main failing as it's very confusing at first and sometimes hard to read. Using real life photos is an interesting choice, though.
Apparently I'm a detective by Hayzar 2017-12-13T01:26:51Z
This seems like a cool game. Unfortunately, I can't complete it as the bottom of the screen is covered (when compared to your screenshots) so I'm probably missing some important thing on the ground. I did enjoy what I could play though and am disappointed I couldn't finish it.
The pixel art looks very nice and is generally easy to read. The music is great and help sets the tone of the game very well. The controls are pretty dodgy, though: You need to be very close to interact with something but you can't click on things if the character is in the way which leads to some frustration.
Corruption by Veralos 2017-12-07T11:52:19Z
@vdogg I think you'll need to update DirectX. Try the links below: - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=35 - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=34429
If that doesn't work I could try making and uploading a version without the shader.
Corruption by Veralos 2017-12-08T01:54:53Z
@javicepa I'm glad you enjoyed it. I agree that some of the enemies are a bit tanky (mainly the stationary ones). I don't know if making them all one hit kills is necessary, but their health could certainly be tweaked.
@lamossus I may be misunderstanding what you're saying, but you can stay in the air if you keep attacking an enemy. You shouldn't need to jump repeatedly. You're probably right that some of placements are a bit annoying, though.
@shubart @goplite Thanks.
@goat-toaster-games It's great to hear you liked it so much. You're right to think the backgrounds look rushed. They were all just a quick "I need to put at least *something* here" sort of thing.
Corruption by Veralos 2017-12-09T09:49:42Z
@acr515 Did I put thought into the map? Sure. Did I do a lot of testing on it? Ah... not so much.
I totally agree with you on the music. It's the thing I most wanted to put in if I had more time. Making music was originally part of the plan, but you know how these things go.
@silkworm-sweatshop Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.
Corruption by Veralos 2017-12-11T01:28:21Z
@rubixalchemist @saintheiser Thanks!
@hayzar You don't have to fall over and over to kill enemies on ledges. If you keep hitting an enemy you will stay in the air next to it. This is the second time someone has complained about this so I wonder if there's a way to make that mechanic more intuitive.
Corruption by Veralos 2017-12-12T23:39:20Z
@kodiqi Thanks for the feedback. I'm also disappointed the sound (the lack of music specifically). I agree that the dive ability probably needs a buff.
You probably already know this if you watched the video, but I'll explain anyway: After you get the run ability you're supposed to just keep running, which will allow you to kill all the enemies on contact. If you do this it's almost impossible to get hit at all.
@asilva4000 Hi, I saw you on MrJoshuaMcLean's stream. I'm glad you like the game.
With the way the respawns after death work, saving honestly didn't require any extra effort. I already have save points, I already keep track of the room and abilities, and I already load a state based on those. The only difference is that I'm storing that stuff in an external file instead of some variables.
@illabom Thanks. I usually play the games of anyone who comments on mine so I'll make sure to check out yours at some point.
Corruption by Veralos 2017-12-19T12:29:02Z
@falak Thanks for the kind words.
@ddrkirbyisq If you liked the main gimmick then I'd consider that a success.
I'm not totally sure what you mean by "better signalling for the speed booster ability". Do you mean that there should be some indication of how close it is to activating?
@yishalee I'm sorry to hear that you found some areas patience testing. Can you recall any parts that were particularly frustrating?
Corruption by Veralos 2017-12-20T11:03:32Z
@ddrkirbyisq Okay, I see what you meant. Yes, that's certainly something that could be improved.
Corruption by Veralos 2017-12-23T21:58:03Z
@huvaakoodia Paint? Pfft. Real artists use the built in Game Maker image editor.
I suppose the bits about going through old areas (both the negatives and positives) are inherent in the metroidvania structure. Generally the locks are in the middle areas while the paths to items are on the left and right edges so you don't have to go far down old paths to reach new places. That's not obvious, though.
For the theme I was trying to make having more powers both something to look forward to and to dread, with the corruption thing as context to make the health loss feel less arbitrary. The result is a bit weak, especially with how excessive your starting health is.
Sorry, I'm away on holiday (without a computer) so I probably won't be able to play your game before the rating ends.
Corruption by Veralos 2017-12-30T09:47:36Z
@jupiter-hadley Thanks for featuring the game. I will definitely take a look.
And thanks to everyone for playing, rating and providing feedback!
Cost by D-Studios 2017-12-18T02:23:39Z
I really like the concept of getting punished for killing enemies. Killing them makes things easier as you have less bullets to dodge, but you also want to keep them alive to get a bigger reward. It doesn't seem fully developed here though - It was unclear what the reward was and the setup seemed contrived. I feel like there's potential in the idea though. Perhaps a game where you complete missions as a police offer but you get paid less for harming people? I don't know, but I think there's something here.
As for the actual game, it's mostly functional but feels unpolished. The platforming works but the jumps feel very slow and floaty (the horizontal movement seems fine, though). The camera moves too slowly and feels unnecessary. It could probably just follow the player. The visuals and music aren't great, but it is at least easy to parse. Also, I couldn't get to the end. I may be missing something, but I couldn't get past one platform that was too high to jump over and too low to walk under.
Tangram Technologies by Baby Dino Herd 2017-12-18T01:42:18Z
Nice puzzle game. The mechanics work well and become pretty challenging (I got stuck on the Piece By Piece level). I really like the visuals and the music. They both work to create an interesting atmosphere that makes the random puzzles feel more meaningful. However, the one thing the game really needs is a clearer division between pieces. When they're put together they're impossible to tell apart which leads to some unnecessary frustration.
Kinball by Jose Pedro Dias 2017-12-14T23:48:32Z
Cool game! The visual style is clean and effective and the audio is very well done. The voice sounds cool, all the sound effects are appropriate and the music is great. I'm not a huge pinball fan, but the gameplay all seems to work well and can be pretty fun. However, I think there needs to be some increase in difficulty each time you loop through the levels as it doesn't seem that hard to go infinite. Some more camera control (mainly zooming out) would also be nice.
Super childcare assistant by boorik 2017-12-07T11:36:18Z
Interesting concept for a game and executed pretty well. Using dirty nappies as a trap is interesting, especially since they can be hard to tell apart from the clean ones you need. I would've like it for the other items to have their own unique ability too. The graphical style is simple but suits the game well. Some sound would be nice, though.
Justify the Means by Goat Toaster Games 2017-12-07T11:04:58Z
The graphics look very nice, especially the background with the light streaming through the trees. The music is great too. The story seems interesting but everything happens so quickly that it's hard to get invested. The gameplay works pretty well, though it feels like there's missing potential. The risk of getting too much magic seemed interesting but it didn't really come up much.
Spatium Calorem by AdroitConceptions 2017-12-18T02:02:53Z
The visuals are kind of ugly (except for the cool explosion effects), but this is actually a lot of fun to play. There's a nice use of brief pauses to act impact to the shots. Getting upgrades is cool but also has the interesting side effect of making you play more carefully. The sound effects work well and I like the addition of a sound when your heat starts getting high.
Shotgun City by Kodiqi 2017-12-07T07:43:14Z
Cool game. Simple, but pretty enjoyable. It seems a bit lame at first but once you get a bunch of shotguns it gets fun. The graphics are decent - I like the quotes the character says and the screenshake. Usually I would say the way the shotgun sounds stack is an issue, but here it helps to add to the crazy chaos.
There are a couple of issues though. You should have more control over the direction of the shotguns. The game should also start slow and ramp up as it's currently a bit rough at the start.
Overloaded by yishalee 2017-12-20T12:07:30Z
Decent game. The concept isn't super unique but it is quite interesting how the slowed turning starts o off barely noticeable yet builds up to be a big hindrance over time. The music is nice and the sound effects generally fit well. The graphics are also pretty solid. The main thing I disliked is how slippery the ship feels. I could understand these controls as a punishment for collecting too many shots, but for basic movement it a bit too hard to control.
Virus Detected by NotSpaghettiGames 2017-12-15T00:44:10Z
Neat concept. It's fun taking over enemies and watching them hunt down the other enemies. The health/resurrect trade off is interesting, and the controls work well. There could be more enemy variety, though.
The background looks nice, but I'm not that keen on the rest of the visuals. The UI with generic text looks a bit unfinished - it would nice if the health display fit more with the game's theme.
The music and shooting sound effects are good. However, it feels like sounds are missing (recruiting an enemy, collecting health, getting hit, etc.).
Grim Reaper by Lamossus 2017-12-08T04:36:07Z
Neat concept. It's fun picking up all the souls and the upgrade system is really cool. I like all the interesting descriptions for the upgrades. There doesn't seem to be much purpose to the jump or it's upgrades, though. Maybe the game could have more verticality? There also needs to be more feedback when hitting enemies. Regardless, the graphics and music are both effective.
Goodnight Sheep by littlecloudflower 2017-12-20T11:24:57Z
Really nice game. It's an interesting way of telling a surprisingly relatable story and is overall very charming. The audio and visuals are both top notch and set the mood well. The only weak point is the "gameplay". That obviously wasn't the focus, but I still wish there was a bit more in terms of interactivity.
Dead Weight by Marc Jones 2017-12-07T12:17:47Z
My best score was 9.
I really like the presentation here. The music fits well, the text adds a lot of flavour, and the colour palette is neat. Unfortunately, the sluggish turning and movement of the ship makes it a bit tough to play. The mechanics are solid but the movement really hurts them. I do especially like how you can only shoot sideways - it add an interesting dynamic to the combat.
TO HOT TO DOG by Lonzago_Art 2017-12-07T10:32:33Z
Neat game. It's a cool concept and it's fun trying to make the right orders. It takes a bit to figure out what picture corresponds to which food but it's not too bad. The visuals are overall really nice. I like how much detail there is in the background. The music is nice too. The one issue is that there isn't much feedback on whether you got the order right. A different sound effect should have been used depending on how close your order is.
Snowfall by OfficialLahusa 2017-12-09T14:26:24Z
Pretty cool (heh) game. The concept is interesting and leads to some neat gameplay. The idea of filled buckets blocking you is clever. The graphics look quite nice (though the character could be a bit more animated) and the music is good too.
Armed Descent by Acr515 2017-12-09T11:53:22Z
Really cool game. Shooting enemies feels good, the upgrade system is cool, and I like the use of the theme. It's interesting trying to decide whether it's worth shooting enemies for money or if you should save ammo to keep your health up. The music is really good and the sound effects work well. The graphics are pretty decent but the grey scenery gets a bit repetitive.
Decline by team decline 2017-12-08T05:48:30Z
Cool game. I like how it's just about fighting bosses. They all feel pretty distinct. The visual effects are cool but some of the later ones make it almost impossible to play. I get that that's the idea but I wish it wasn't basically compulsory to downgrade yourself. That said, the downgrading concept is pretty interesting.
LD53 — Delivery
Space Express by gmaker 2023-05-12T10:46:39Z
Cool game! Trying to time boosts between planets correctly is a fun challenge, and I like how you have to take the gravitational pull into account to make sure it doesn't drag you off course. The risk/reward of trying to aim for tricky collectables is neat in concept, but feels a bit too weighted on the risk side in practice. A slightly wrong angle often results in bouncing off a planet too hard, or just missing it entirely. Perhaps to make it more forgiving there could be a limited supply of lives that would let you respawn on the last planet you boosted from?
Other than that, the graphics look nice and the music is super good.
Ooober Cookies by notime4games 2023-05-21T08:10:55Z
Sorry for not rating before the results. To be honest, I thought we still had until the end of the weekend!
Anyway, cool game! It's little obtuse at first (and should probably have an explanation in the description) but I managed to figure it out eventually. I like the decision making when deciding whether to send out a car. You need to factor whether the distance travelled is worth the money. The way you get more cars to steadily increase profits reminds me of clicker style games, and I could see this being very addictive if fleshed out a bit more. Perhaps a way to buy new locations to send cars from? Other than that, the cube style is simple but charming. I like the details of the headlights on the cars and the people walking between the buildings and cars.
Goblin Trail by tukisboolukis 2023-05-13T08:58:08Z
Really nice game! I was a bit overwhelmed with everything going on at first, but after some time learning how the game worked it was very enjoyable. I like the idea of being able to choose whether to use slots on the cart for either resources or extra archers to help defend yourself. Though I think the ore at the mine could be increased in quantity and/or variety to have more decisions about what to take on your return trip.
Having to avoid obstacles on the road while also aiming at and retrieving coins from goblins created a hectic but fun experience during each trip. It's cool how you can recover dropped resources if you're quick enough to grab them and plop them back in the cart before they get left behind. Not a fan of the camera controls though. It feels unintuitive having W/S for moving the cart but A/S for the camera. perhaps the camera could be moved based on the mouse cursor's position?
Finally, the presentation is also really good. The pixel art is great and has some nice detailed animations. Having the cart be dragged slightly between the movement of the bison was a nice touch. The music and sound effects are great and are used well.
Delivery out of order by stmatn 2023-05-05T12:42:54Z
Really cool programming game. Took me a bit to understand how to best utilise the instructions, but once I did I managed to make some nifty recursive programs to complete levels. I like how the limited length of programs and limited recursive depth makes you plan carefully. I beat all the levels but only managed to get a few of the bonus stars.
Graphics and sound effects are pretty simple but they work well. Everything was clearly communicated by the visuals. I like the use of colour coding to distinguish the types of instructions. The interface is overall clear and effective. The one extra thing I would've liked to see is a multi-select function to make it easier to move a bunch of instructions into a new program.
Baby Blaster by irwatts 2023-05-10T11:39:20Z
Wow, I really the art style. The goofy looking babies and storks are super charming. I also like the blending of the 2d cartoon graphics for the characters and the 3d backgrounds. The extra art on the title looks great and is a nice touch. The music and audio is good too - voice acting in a jam gam is always impressive. The audio levels seem off though. I can barely hear the sound effects and voice acting over the music.
Unfortunately, something about the game seems broken on my computer. A lot of random errors show up in yellow text near the top right of the screen. Other people are talking about different levels, but when I play there's only one level and after that it goes straight to the end credits. Not sure what's going on.
Postal Jump by digitaldude555 2023-05-06T12:51:03Z
Cool game. I like the idea of clicking the near the character to adjust its trajectory after its already been launched. It's nice being able to have a bit of leeway to save misaimed jumps. Finishing the level by throwing the letter (rather than touching an end goal) is a neat idea too. It's fun doing a daring jump toward the mailbox and sniping it with the letter at the last second.
Unfortunately, there's an annoying bug where you get stuck on walls and can't do anything. It happens mainly against the edges of the screen but sometimes happens on walls inside the level too. I had to restart the whole game multiple times because of it. The furthest I could make it was level 4 because of these restarts.
On a more positive note, the graphics look quite nice. I especially like the design of the of the main character.
Cerberus by Veralos 2023-05-02T04:43:55Z
@phlip45 Thanks for playing.
Yeah, there isn't much reward for returning all the souls outside of a "you did it" message. I unfortunately ran out of time to add a proper ending.
Cerberus by Veralos 2023-05-03T08:23:12Z
@ellaris Thanks for the feedback. The punishing nature is somewhat by design. The idea is that you're forced to choose whether it's worth the risk of hoarding a bunch of souls knowing you could easily lose them. I'll have to think about if there's a way to make it less punishing without removing the risk-vs-reward element.
@thaprofesional Glad you enjoyed it. Would have liked to add music but I didn't prioritise it highly enough and ran out of time to make it.
@alisher-fazilov Thanks. Using xp to unlock new abilities sounds like a cool idea!
Cerberus by Veralos 2023-05-04T04:31:06Z
@teddyreid When in doubt, add screenshake.
@kierogi Could you elaborate on what kind of visual cues you were thinking of?
Cerberus by Veralos 2023-05-05T03:58:59Z
@kierogi No worries, it doesn't sound like nonsense. I'm just fishing for ideas on how to improve the game.
Cerberus by Veralos 2023-05-10T10:54:12Z
@fabonacci Glad you liked it. Going through the door at the end was the original plan before time limitations got in the way.
@hakro Thanks for pointing that issue out. I've now added some alternate key bindings for AZERTY in the post-jam build I'm working on.
Cerberus by Veralos 2023-05-13T08:04:10Z
@thesmellofoxygen Wow, thanks for the detailed feedback!
Yeah... sort of locked myself into a dog protagonist early on before realizing later that animating one was harder than I expected. Probably why the more humanoid enemies tend to look better.
After some testing on Firefox, it seems like your control issues were probably caused by moving the mouse outside the game region. I'm not sure how much I can do to fix that, but I'll look into it. At the very least I can add alternate buttons to help alleviate the issue.
Fair points about respawning enemies. Could definitely add more feedback to make it clear when they're respawning. Having them deal no damage for a short time after coming back sounds like a good idea too.
Cerberus by Veralos 2023-05-21T08:14:18Z
98th in fun and 111th overall. Not too shabby.
Thanks to everyone who rated and commented!
Don't read all about it! by ThaProfesional 2023-05-03T10:17:44Z
The presentation is very charming. I like the art style and the backstory on the tutorial screen. The animations of the dog are well done and make it feel surprisingly good to control. The music is also beautiful - truly brought a tear to my eye. It's just a shame that there isn't more to the game.
Neat little delivery game. I like the way you have to keep track of the names, orders locations, and vehicle locations in a way that mimics the real life process. The visuals are mostly okay, but the random car colour needs some tweaking. Sometimes they're so dark that they're almost impossible to see. Audio is pretty minimal, but what's there works well. The car honking to signify a new customer arriving was a nice choice.
Fun game! The controls feel really smooth and the grappling hook is a great addition. The constantly rising lava combined with the high energy music make for an exciting rush though each level. Some of the level design feels a bit at odds with this though. It often requires precise jumps and careful movement doesn't that always gel with the rapid pace. Despite that, the game is still very well made and enjoyable.
Pizza Friday by Phlip45 2023-05-02T05:54:03Z
Creative idea for a game! I like the way it's designed so that it could be played with actual dice. The mechanics of being able to feed multiple houses with one die is clever, and led to a lot of thought being required to place the dice in such a way that everyone was happy without running out of space. It's certainly quite challenging.
Maybe a bit too challenging... The requirements to win are very tight considering the luck involved. There's way more pizza than other orders - yet the pizza has the same rarity as everything else - so I often felt forced to just re-roll hoping to get pizza. As a result, failed re-rolls also feel too punishing. If you lose a die you'll probably fail to complete a house and waste time anyway, so wasting extra time seems unnecessary.
That said, the presentation is good. The colour scheme does a good job of evoking a pizza restaurant and the way the board is displayed makes it clear how everything works. I like details such as the dice slightly lagging behind the cursor, and the satisfying dice rolling sound effect. The music is nice to listen to as well.
Little Messenger by ahistyap 2023-05-06T09:32:10Z
Really clever idea for a game! Remembering the message was pretty easy, but it was still fun trying to avoid getting distracted. The art style is very cute and I love the flat characters in a 3d world style. It's a little odd how the side characters are black and white while the main characters are full colour, but it at least made it easy to figure out who to avoid.
Nice job for your first jam with Godot! I need to try learning that engine one of these days... Anyway, the game is fairly simple, but functions well. I like the idea of trying to defend the moving carts. Almost feels like a reverse tower defense game where you're the one moving along a fixed track and the enemies are the ones trying to stop you.
The game is sorely missing feedback though. It's hard to tell when an enemies hits something, or when you hit an enemy. It doesn't help that you have to restart from the beginning when you die. Sounds effects feel sorely absent too (that's part of the reason the game lacks feedback). The music is cool though.
Beetle Dynasty by Hakro 2023-05-12T10:05:23Z
A bit short and simple, but what's there is really well done. The platforming controls feel good and the camera movement is smooth. I like how there's a bit of dialogue and some proper tutorial prompts to explain the controls at the the start. The art style looks great with some nice animations from the player character. The sounds effects are music are nice as well.
Mail Day Mayday! by Thomas_Bringer 2023-05-05T04:29:30Z
Really great game! The core concept is fun, and it gets expanded upon in lots of interesting ways. I like how the conveyor belts can both help or hinder you depending on where you want the packages to go. I also appreciate the way each mechanic is introduced with a clear tutorial.
As others have said dropping packages where you want can be a bit tricky. One change I can suggest is making it so that if there's an obstacle where you're trying to drop the package, it gets dropped at your feet instead of cancelling the drop entirely. For reference, I played the browser version on the itch page. Not sure if that's post-jam or not
Regardless, the presentation is very polished, especially for a jam game. The visual style is very charming and clean. The sounds effects and music fit the game well. It's impressive that you managed to include a ranking system and a nice ending image. One thing I missed is a level select screen - I wanted to go back to levels I did bad on and get 3 stars!
Dire Delivery by eyedromeda 2023-05-16T09:16:41Z
Nice game! The controls work well and I like the idea of having different weak points with separate health bars. The silhouette style of the graphics is really cool. It implies a lot of detail without actually needing to show too much. The sound design is also great, and really adds to the feel of piloting the drone.
Bundle Dumper: Florida Edition by cheesepencil 2023-05-08T10:13:15Z
The controls take a bit to get the hang of, but once I did it was a fun challenge navigating around the obstacles and landing precise shots into the homes. I like how the amount of deadly obstacles and blood is over the top that it becomes comical. Dropping a baby onto hard ground from several stories up just wasn't deadly enough; there had to also be crocodiles waiting to snatch them up. Graphics and audio are overall really nice, and I like the stork relaxing on the end screen after a job well done. Well done aside from the dozens of babies that got shredded along the way, that is.
All your Deliveries have come at once!! by JAsonsumm1 2023-05-02T11:14:41Z
I like the concept! The chaos of trying to quickly throw stuff into the correct room as the boxes keep piling up is pretty fun. As others have said though, it's a bit buggy. The hitbox for each room seems very precise - most items wouldn't be dropped unless I hit a very specific spot in the room. There also doesn't seem to be a fail condition. I think it would make sense to fail if the main room gets too full.
Other than that, the presentation is nice. Each item is distinct so you can easily identify which room to put them in. I especially like the way the boxes bounced around the room. Music and sound effects are good too.
Deliver Us From Evil by Team Watt 2023-05-04T12:15:44Z
If I knew faith let me fire a Kamehameha, I would probably go to church more often.
It was a bit unclear what I was supposed to do at first. I think you should make it more obvious what attacks work on what enemy. Once I did figure it out though, I had fun blasting the demons out of people and uppercut-ing them. Graphics are and audio are simple but they do the job well enough. I like how the use of the theme is more interesting that just the literal interpretation.
Styx and Stones by Baconeta 2023-05-02T09:54:22Z
I'm not sure if there is an end goal or not, but if there is it's too hard to reach. I got to 300ish souls before getting bored and calling it quits. I get that the monotony of Charon's job is probably part ot the joke, but I would've liked to see the ending if there is one.
Regardless, the presentation is fantastic! The art style is very nice and manages to convey a somber tone while still being charming. The music sets the mood well and the sound effects all feel appropriate. The dialogue gets a bit repetitive after a while, but adds a nice bit of personality to the game.
Deliver us from Evil by Matt Barnfield 2023-05-02T12:14:14Z
Really cool game! The premise is great and I enjoyed the variety of cards to play with. There's an impressive amount of content for a jam game, especially considering how all the cards have high quality art and effects. I like the idea of having powerful cards you have to sacrifice morality for, but it didn't seem to have any effect. I could empty the morality meter and keep using the demonic cards and was still completely fine. Maybe it affects the ending? I never managed to make it that far (even with multiple attempts), so I'm not sure.
One element I've a bit iffy on is how many cards you get. Most deck builders only give a card after each battle, and keeping your deck slim is a major part of the strategy. Compared to that, getting a card after every enemy can feel a bit overwhelming. It does have good aspects though - I like how the card is added to your hand so you can create combos by chaining together kills.
Become a Courier by alisher_fazilov 2023-05-02T09:24:28Z
Seems cool, but it needs a bit more explanation. I have no idea how to get money. I wandered around a bit and managed to find another building to purchase, but couldn't buy it it without any money. I could purchase the first building for $0 and look at the menu of stuff to buy, but outside of that I couldn't manage to accomplish much.
The Silver Fleet by KyleTheCoder 2023-05-02T06:21:22Z
I like the idea of a simple one button runner game, but with how generous the timing is this feels a bit *too* simple. The enemies can be taken out with little effort just by mashing the button. The rope swings are a little more challenging to time, but not by much.
That said, the way the screen shakes and the enemies fly all over the place does make it satisfying to take them out despite the simplicity. The graphics overall are very appealing. I particularly like the main character's cartoony running animation. There's also a surprising amount of variety in enemy designs and scenery for such a short game. The audio is pretty good too, thought the boing sound for defeating enemies is a tad loud.
Medieval Package Delivery Company by Link270 2023-05-12T12:06:50Z
I played both 1.0 and 1.2. I'm going to rate it based on the content from the jam version (which seems to be unbeatable - I couldn't get past the castle after the goblins), but will focus feedback on 1.2 so it's hopefully more useful.
First off: This is a very impressive game! The graphics look great, both the world itself and the characters. The world is very impressive in scale, and there's a lot of different buildings and terrain spread across it. I like how there's several different biomes and races of characters. The use of different weather/lighting effects (at least in 1.2) is well done and makes the different areas feel distinct. The amount of dialogue and characters in the game is also quite impressive. I like all sound effects and music, though it is a bit strange how the music seems to come from a specific direction.
Unfortunately, the gameplay doesn't live up to the stellar presentation. It mostly involves walking long distances between NPCs without much interesting to do on the way. The combat doesn't feel great either. There's a lack of feedback, making it hard to tell who's hitting who, and in general it's not very satisfying. There also doesn't seem to be much in the way of strategy - I tried dashing around a bit at first, but ended up having the most success by just standing still in front of each enemy and mashing attack until they died.
Meowxtape: Delivery by crow_seeds 2023-05-05T05:04:35Z
Wow. I was not expecting the voice acting, and I was *definitely* not expecting actual rap songs complete with cat-themed lyrics! This is just a super well made game with lots of personality. All the characters are well designed and drawn. The art is just great looking overall. The one exception is the white circle bullets which look fine but stand out against the detail of everything else. The story was entertaining and the dialogue was pretty funny. It was hard to read the texts while driving, but I guess that's part of the joke. The fact that the game just restarts at the end is bit disappointing, but it's hard to complain about that when everything else is so well done.
Conveyor Chaos by SMdG 2023-05-04T06:58:34Z
Cute idea for a game. I like the use of the theme to create a unique arcade experience. The aesthetics are simple but communicate all the necessary information. I like how the boxes are the only thing with colour so that they really stand out. At first sending everything down the middle seemed like the optimal strategy, but losing points for moving a box off its row is a good way to prevent that (though perhaps it could be explained somewhere). The sound design is nice too.
My main issue is the way you can't turn the belts while a box is on it. It makes the game harder than it should be when the boxes start coming quickly, plus it just feels bad pressing a button and having nothing happen.
Special Delivery by Alex Chertilin 2023-05-03T09:25:15Z
Interesting concept for a game, and nice creative use of the "delivery" theme. Not sure how much of the plot was original vs taken from the short story, but it was certainly a fascinating ride. I like the use of tense music and the semi-realistic backgrounds. The character designs felt a bit too cheery for the tone of the story though.
Per My Last Bullet, by HexyVexy 2023-05-04T06:08:48Z
Really nice game! The presentation is very well done. The graphics are appealing and the character designs are unique. The music is great and fits the tone of the game well. I don't think I fully understood the story but it still gave the game a cool vibe. It feels very polished overall for a game made for in such a short time.
The combat is a bit simple though. A lot of the time you can slowly walk forward with your gun out and shoot enemies as they appear on the screen with little danger. My favourite bit was the shaft area with the ladder because the verticality made for more interesting combat scenarios. Regardless, the guns are still fun to use even in the simple scenarios. I especially liked being able to take out multiple enemies with one shotgun blast.
O.W.L. - Owls with luggage by Pentaworks 2023-05-07T12:20:37Z
It took me quite a while to understand what to do. I know you explained the goal in the description, but the extra scenery with the owl and the potions, plus all the buttons on the interface, made me think the game was more complicated than it was. The controls also seem quite elaborate for what the game is. Buttons to move and rotate the objects make sense, but all the controls for moving and rotating the camera just confused me more than they helped. Personally I would've locked the camera's focus on the container, and just had controls to rotate the camera around it.
Once did realise all I had to do was put stuff in the container, however, it ended up being a pretty cool puzzle game. I like how the first couple of levels are simple demonstrations of moving and rotating items, then the latter two levels are actually proper challenges. It took me a bit of thinking to get all the swords and broomsticks packed in on the final one. The graphics are pretty nice, and the attention to detail with the main menu being set in some kind of magic study is cool. The music is nice too, even if it does sound a bit like a legally distinct version of the Harry Potter theme.
Giggle Groove by badcop 2023-05-05T16:13:26Z
Very clever use of the theme! The concept is silly and feels like it shouldn't work, but it's executed so well that it ends up working great. The rhythm element is challenging but satisfying, and I like how you have a clear indicator of exactly when to press the button. I also really like the detail with the audience providing commentary on the jokes. It's pretty funny how the on-screen text will say something like "good try!" but then the audience will yell something like "you suck!"
Express Delivery by InfinateFalcon 2023-05-06T13:31:06Z
So *that's* where babies come from!
The idea is kinda silly, but I like the way it uses two different meanings of "delivery". Landing precise shots while driving down the road is fun for a bit, but it's a overall a bit simplistic. There's little need to turn at all since you can reach couples on either side of the road by shooting from the centre. The upgrades also feel imbalanced. Van speed is reasonable, but the time limit and starting babies upgrades quickly give you way more than you could ever need. Gameplay aside, the graphics are fairly simple, but still have a certain charm to them.
Deliveride by kierogi 2023-05-04T06:39:32Z
I like the idea of having space-y frictionless controls, but it doesn't blend well with trying to quickly react to avoid obstacles. The lack of checkpoints is also pretty glaring. After several attempts I managed to complete the delivery on the orange/purple planet and get back to Earth, but after dying there and having to start all over again I gave up.
That said, I do like the presentation of the game. The backgrounds have a cool painted looking style. The music works well with the chill vibes of drifting through space. And as I said, the slippery controls do work well for conveying the feel of being in space.
Shiver Deliver by CO5MONAUT 2023-05-07T11:37:02Z
Very well done atmosphere! The visuals and audio along with the storytelling definitely sets up a spooky vibe. I like the use of narration to guide the player along. Most of the time I get annoyed at horror protagonists for getting themselves into bad situations, but with this one I can sympathise: A free pizza is a free pizza.
Deliver or Die by Pedryx 2023-05-12T11:15:44Z
Cool game. It feels surprisingly polished already! The visuals are nice and detailed. I particularly like the reload animation and the fog effect. Sound effects are all high quality, and the music sets the mood well. The core concept is solid, and it's cool being able to choose upgrades every time you complete a delivery. '
Unfortunately, the pace feels a bit slow. Getting from package to package seems to take a long time, especially at the start without movement upgrades. It also takes a while before the enemies ramp up enough to be an actual threat.
DeliveryQuest by RaggedyJam 2023-05-06T09:19:30Z
The first minigame is fun. Obviously very DKC inspired, but it's still a nice challenge trying to time the cannon shots correctly. There's even a bit of a skip you can do with proper timing.
I didn't enjoy the second as much. Once you figure out how it works you can just watch the one tile that actually matters and ignore everything else. It's basically a waiting game at that point.
The third was my favourite, to the point that I almost wish the whole game was focused on it. It's really fun using the movement of the bird to affect the trajectory of the package. Throwing it up in the air, taking out enemies, then catching it again was super satisfying.
Soul Delivery Manager by Stanislav Pustynkin 2023-05-05T10:23:50Z
Great game! I like the mechanic of moving the characters around to do various actions. Balancing the rowers to avoid obstacles is a lot more interesting than if you could just turn manually. Temporarily sacrificing rowers to fix the boat is a neat alternative to simply losing health. I pretty much forgot what the character's stats were though.
The presentation is fantastic too. The graphics overall are very detailed. Touches like the green souls reaching up from the river really help to sell the premise of crossing the Styx. The music is great and also contributes nicely to the atmosphere. The voice acting was cool, but got a bit repetitive after a while.
Devilery Delivery by ellaris 2023-05-03T10:00:14Z
Cool concept for a game. It feels almost like playing as the boss in a boss battle! I'm pretty impressed by how smart the enemy AI is - it does a good job of dodging the attacks. It can be a bit tricky trying to hit them, but it's satisfying when you manage to take them down.
Some of the elements could be made more clear. Choosing a character at the start made me think I was going to control them, so it took me a while to realise I was actually controlling the mail truck. I'm also not sure why there are multiple health bars. It would've been more intuitive with just one large health bar.
Jitto by osullivp 2023-05-04T05:18:19Z
Cool game! I like the old school Game & Watch vibe. It fun trying to manage two different characters and it can get pretty challenging and hectic at times.
There were a few situations where no packages spawned for 10 seconds or so, which seemed kind of odd.
Parcel Trouble by DominikaM33 2023-05-06T09:55:55Z
As others have said, there should be an executable and a clearer description of which parcel is which. I managed to download the engine and eventually figure out the parcels, but it's still not ideal.
I like the concept of the game. There's some interesting decisions with choosing which parcel to place when, and there could potentially be a cool puzzle game here. Unfortunately, it sometimes feels like you just get unlucky and end up with unusable parcels through no major fault of your own. It would be helpful if it at least gave a proper game over so you could try again without relaunching the game. That said, I do really like the graphical style.
