LD38 — A Small World

STEEL GEAR CHAOS by FireSlash 2017-05-17T04:53:25Z

This was a great game, I really liked it. It felt more complete and fleshed out than most I've seen so far. Anyway, lets get into the nitty gritty:

I didn't really playthough the end (I need my sleep xD) So I'll probably finish it up later, and then change my ratings depending on how it goes. Anyway, it was overall a great game, and the graphics stuck out to me. The color panel was akin to arcade games, and it really fit the overal graphical style. Not only that, but the pixel art on the characters in the game and the hud was really cool, and definitely something I would want to try later.

The gameplay was also very interesting (not in a bad way) and difficult though. It was slightly hard to pick up at first, but as with all games I've played, as soon as you've learned the quirks and how things work, you start learning.

So overall, a pretty polished, fun game.

Endless Hexagon by David Cookie 2017-05-11T03:10:42Z

I was of course unable to beat your score, but I had fun trying.

It was a cool, solid, and fun game. The music was really chill, which added to the atmostphere. Not only that, but the innovative aspect of the puzzle made it funner to play. This was one of the more innovative puzzle games I've seen so far (and I've seen a lot. I thought I would see more RPG's or Roguelikes, but I've only seen a few.) My score's averaged around 3000 first, and my best was 4000 something I think?

Aside from a few problems which didn't really impact gameplay, it was a really polished game, although the almost repetitive nature made it lack depth, but that is understandable considering time used.

Not Enough Space by mactinite 2017-05-05T06:10:31Z

So, I finally got to bring out my Xbox controllers.

Next time, do try not to make it so only Xbox controllers work xD, but i digress.

I got my brother to plug his Xbox controller in and (with some difficulty installing the other controller) we started to play. We've decided it was fun enough, but it did have its bugs. It did have very nice graphics however, which were very appeasing.

Space Travel 15 by jk5000 2017-05-05T06:12:18Z

So, I never really had much time so I only played a little, but I still rated. Once I have time I will play more and change the rating (although I can't promise to change my comment >-<) It was a nice, interesting little game for some time, and the camera was a little strange. Other than that, I will have to review it at a later time to finish rating it, sorry xD

World Jump by stefvanschie 2017-05-10T14:48:59Z

A fun little game, with a nice depth to it. It was cool to see other countries. It was even cool to see the art style. Some levels were pretty difficult, leading to me eventually stopping (Maybe I'll pick it up later) but the gameplay was solid enough.

The game itself had a lot of depth into it with rewards and traveling. Also, the animations were a fun thing to see xD

I Just Wanted Groceries by Jedeen 2017-05-09T03:38:15Z

So it was a nice game. The first thing that stuck out to me was:

-the idea (nice fun little game) -the replay ability -the music -the graphics

So the replay ability itself was a little strange, because it was harder than it should have been to reload after you lose, but otherwise it was a great game!

Mini Shaders by bestnickname 2017-05-11T00:26:12Z

PRE-PLAY ===================================== First impressions of the game before playing: Looks like an interesting one, definetliy more unique than all the others I've seen. But also looks quiet complex.

Then I played the game

POST-PLAY ===================================== -Music The sound fit, especially the sound effects, and the music, but the music got repetitive after a while

-Gameplay It was very, very hard to understand at first. I had to seriously read the instructions a few times, and even then it just reminded me that I have math notes to do xD The text and UI was also pretty small for me, so I a changeable screen size is recommended.

However, once the player truly grasps the full gameplay (which I still think I'm doing somewhat wrong) the game or puzzle itself is quite interesting and intriguing. However, I agree with one commenter, using y+ to go down is a bit strange.

I think a tutorial should be added, that explains things one by one (although I know how hard tutorials can be in Unity)

-Theme To my best knowledge, this didn't fit the theme very well, but it didn't really matter

-Innovation: The game itself was innovative, and much, much different than all the games I have rated so far.

EDIT -Graphics The graphics fit the overall aesthetic of the game, and it had a nice simple, clean feel to it with that still daunting display of commands and such. It added to the game really well.

OVERALL ===================================== It was a unique, fun little puzzle game that was very hard to understand at first.

This Is Not Enough Planet! by madjackmcmad 2017-05-15T01:41:09Z

Wow, this was a great game! Definitely one of the funner games I've played the whole LD.

Still thought, it was interesting to pick up at first. I didn't know how to get anything from the asteroids no matter what I did, so for my first several turns I had no Enerjumpz

Then I found out how to play.

The gameplay was honestly, very very good. It felt really solid especially considering the time given. And boy, did I play this game for a while. After a few tries of just running around dodging enemies, I found out how to play.

I got a score of almost 100,000 I think, with a Regal size planet.

The only problems I noticed was that if you put your name as a name already existing on the scoreboard, you never got to have your score appear, because it just showed the previous owner.

Also, when there were a lot of lasers, enemy and friendly, it was a bit laggy but not that bad.

Other than that, this was an amazing solid entry. If you could add some upgrades and such, that would be amazing!

And also, have people, little saplings, and water grow on the planet as it grew was a nice touch.

Planet04 by geck0 2017-05-11T00:59:33Z

Nice, fun little game with solid gameplay and mechanics. It was really cool to go around exploring the world, racing around in the car.

It was at first kind of wierd the way you handled turning, but I got used to it fast and it wasn't really a problem.

Graphics were good, it was pleasant just driving around, thought the lighting seemed a bit wierd at first.

Also, the camera could have been made better by making it not stick with the car so much.

Other than that, all in all a nice fun little game.

World Tours by Mathiouza 2017-05-09T23:51:27Z

Over all a nice fun little game. I appreciated the gameplay, graphical art style, and animations. It was simple, but effective, although more advanced techniques which you could learn could be implemented at some point. Plus, the audio was really nice.

Gnome Digger by bobsleigh 2017-05-11T13:44:38Z

I started playing and it was actually pretty fun. Being given all that freedom to dig around, getting ores, and I'm a gnome! A gnome! Who wouldn't want to do that xD

All in all it was a well fleshed out idea, with some solid gameplay, and if you added some more content it would be a lot funner.

The graphical style was simple and effective, but could use a brush up. Other than that great job!

Train World by mar3k 2017-05-10T14:46:40Z

It had a cool story, nice graphics, and interesting gameplay.

One of the games I liked the most are RPG type titles, and this one fit pretty ok. Rogue-like games I've also appreciated over the past few years, and this one also fit well.

The pixel art style made the whole game look so much better. Also, the gameplay and story fit well, giving a very nice and well put together authentic rogue-like experience.

My only problem would probably be that the fighting scenes were a bit repetitive after a while, it became just spamming Attack sometimes. I would recommend adding abilities (or just one) and a Guard ability that blocks or reduces damage taken next turn

Other than that, it was a well put together game and a true marvel considering the time given.

Caelium Alpha by jishenaz 2017-05-10T14:42:33Z

So I've always been a BIG fan of sandbox games. And when I saw this, a planetery sandbox made in 72 hours, I was like "No Way! AWESOME"

And I checked it out.

While it wasn't what I thought it was, it was still amazing! There was a certain level of depth and detail given, like to each planet that made the whole game fit together.

There were some problems though, such as where do I go? After creating all my planets, messing around with a few, I found there to be lack of gameplay, or lack of a reason to continue.

The backgrounds graphics and planets looked nice though. And it still was a very cool game/idea.

While I would have liked the option to rename planets, that was fine.

All in all, if you continued development (I could already see a post LD version you have there :) ) Then you could probably get yourselves a nice game.

Minos' Pond by Reflextions 2017-05-09T03:44:16Z

Alright so this game was a true beauty for the amount of time given. The things that stuck out to me:

-Gameplay -Replay Ability/Fun -Graphics -Sound

The gameplay was incredibly addictive, replayable, and fun. I myself am a huge fan of games like these, these simulation type ones, but only if they are pulled out well. It was done exceptionally in your case. The tutorial was great and everything

Plus that speed up button helped so much.

The game's graphics style actually reminded me of an uncompleted LD game I made a long time ago, though I scrapped it in favor of other ideas.

The HUD was something to me that I wasn't sure about. Sometimes I liked the pleasant layout and such, but in the end, I would find myself being wierd over the aesthetic. Sure it was polished, but something about it seemed strange to me. Its probably just me being wierd (I'm a wierd person after all!), so you can disregard that.

I guess what I was trying to say is, some more polish and content, and you sir have a nice game ready.

Pretty little Planet by JALIK 2017-05-15T14:09:48Z

As said before, a much more interesting game then I have ever seen. This LD, most games were pretty linear arcade kinda games, little shooters, trying to get the highest scores.

In a way, this was similar but still more interesting to play.

Art style was also interesting, but everything else like gameplay was pretty solid.

House 0.1.0(top down shooter) by thelonelynug 2017-05-10T14:38:42Z

It was a nice little challenge game, with a style similar to Hotline Miami. It was pretty fun overall to play, but it had its bugs, such as the bullets didn't go where the cursor was, the enemies sometimes didn't lose health, and the Ammo could go into negatives.

With some more polish, levels, and options (maybe more weapons or customization) you have a nice game.

Supernova by Veralos 2017-05-09T23:49:00Z

This was a really nice game, especially good considering the time given. It was a really cool idea that even fit the theme! With the planets and stuff, it was really interesting! For whatever reason it reminded me of a simpler, condensed 2D no man's sky of sorts. It reminded me of a game I made a long time ago, when i made sidescrollers, and yours was implemented very well.

Best things to me were:

-Gameplay - Simple, but effective. However, the depth of being able to move between planets in a ship added to it greatly.

-Graphics - I just love pixel art, and it was done really well here. See P1 to see my only problem.

-Idea - As said above, it was a really cool idea, going through each island like puzzle planet

Sound(ish) - Well put together sound that added to the game

P1: My only few problems were the maps. I understand the limited amount of time given, and I suppose that is why, but the planets seemed kind of repetitive at times, especially since the only tiles besides "traps" or entities were the ground and background, which were all just recolors. Its really small, but just something for me that stood out.

I did however appreciate the small touch of using darker colored tiles in the background, very effective.

All in all, a nice round game with a innovative idea, nice simple sound and graphics.

SlapR by MewSoul 2017-05-11T00:52:37Z

PRE-GAME =====================================

So judging by just the screenshots, it seems I am going to like it. And right off the bat, I apologize if this review seems kind of rushed, or short, because I've been rating games, and I think this is the last one I am going to do before homework.

POST-GAME =====================================

So I just finished playing it and here is my review:

-Gameplay Solid enough, and being able to slap off pengiuns was awesome xD It was a fun game that seemed kind of repetitive, but had good replayability and held my interest for some time.

-Graphics A huge thing that stuck out to me - graphics. They were amazing! The voxel feel with not textures and materials really fit the overall aesthetic and feel of the game. And GOD DARN THOSE PENGIUNS ARE SO CUTE owo

One weird thing I noticed was the shadows don't appear one water, its a really small thing, but just something I noticed.

-Innovation It was great, I mean who decides to make a game about penguins slapping each other! Brilliant! And to pull it off well was a feat which you surpassed.

-Theme It fit the theme OK I guess, as you're small world you were defending was the ice.

OVERALL =====================================

Basically, I really enjoyed this one. I really liked the art and graphics style, the gameplay, and things like that. If you added a lot more content like more penguins, levels, playable pengiuns and stuff, I'm sure you could go places with this game.

Leucos by Harry Alissavakis 2017-05-11T00:38:49Z

A nice simple game!

REVIEW =====================================

-Gameplay It was really solid, and fit really well. It was not just good to play, but fun (yes there is a difference to me) The gameplay was really well executed, and had me coming for more over and over. It was really interesting running around with all the blood cells, trying to save whoever's body I was in xD The gameplay had a certain level of depth to it with the powerups and such.

-Innovation: The idea itself was very solid. Theme was small world, and we were inside a person, in the microscopic level saving them. Very well put together. The gameplay itself was just the normal shoot em up style, but still put together well

-Theme As said above, it fit the theme pretty well.

-Audio This part was not shabby at all! The overall SFX and music were very nice additions.

OVERALL =====================================

If you add more content and polish, I'm pretty sure you could go places with this game. Overall it was a nice shoot em up style game that had held its title by being cool in its ideas. (idk if that sounds right)

Kanjo by Kataware 2017-05-04T23:37:35Z

@steve-johnson Thanks for the feedback! I am currently rebuilding the game and hoping to give better gameplay with an exact or similar story experience.

Kanjo by Kataware 2017-05-12T01:32:26Z

@mindtricks Hmm I never had that problem. Its possible a bug slipped through. What version did you play, and did you hold down escape after the opening?

Kanjo by Kataware 2017-05-13T16:39:28Z

@mewsoul You basically summed it up, and thanks for really going into depth! I am reworking the game in a project that will take a few months, and I hope to use it in the future. I am also reworking the combat system, but keeping the music and story.

I did spend a lot of time on music, almost 8 hours xD

Kanjo by Kataware 2017-05-17T14:35:26Z

@maldo19 I appreciate the really long comment, and you going into depth with your review. You addressed most of the problems with a lot of detail, and yes, I really do need a lot more exposition. I hadn't really planned the story out too much, but over time I have a little. And in my English class, I might have to write a narrative, so if I do, I will probably use that opportunity to plan this out.

What you said made a lot of sense, and I'm glad you did say. So I will keep your information in mind for my future version of the game. Thanks!

Globe Guzzler by Eli Delventhal 2017-05-11T00:33:34Z

PRE-GAME =====================================

Just judging by the screenshots and reviews, this one looks to be fun!

POST-GAME =====================================

So I just finished playing it and here is my review:

-Gameplay The gameplay was nicely done, solid, and well polished. It was fun to jump around, flying between all the planets and destroying them. It had a lot more content gameplay-wise than most I've seen, and this is a true marvel for 48 hours!

-Graphics Of course, the graphics were great! Using particles, and having the planets break up, as well as all the sprites, the great graphics fit really well into the overall aesthetic of the game, creating a complete experience. If I had to pick on problem, I would just say that you could have detailed the particles of the planets more, so that a wider variety of colored planets appeared and also so that each "tile" or particle wasn't just one color.

-Innovation The idea for gameplay was a unique one, and while it still was just a 2d space game, it still was pretty innovative.

-Theme It fit ok, and I had fun walking around destroying all those planets :)

OVERALL =====================================

It was a really fun arcade style kind of game. Just try to get a high score. . . Then beat that. . . Then beat it again. . . and so on :) If you added some more content and polish, I'm sure you could go places with this!

RGB by madmaw 2017-05-05T06:08:27Z

Very interesting puzzle game, quite a perplexer. It caught me interest for some time, and I could see gameplay was focused over most categories.

Keeplanet by HellSquirrel 2017-05-17T04:49:42Z

Woah, this was one game. First off, it had much much, MUCH more polish than most games I've seen during the Ludum Dare. It had a level of depth and polish that other games can't touch.

Not only was the concept unique, cool, and innovative, the graphics were amazing! I know you've probably heard this alot, but those graphics are awesome! It was also quite a blast to play, though at first I couldn't really find any motivation too.

But as time went by and my planet grew, I wanted to make sure it would be sustainable.

So great job!

Mr. UN and the small world village by JulianMH 2017-05-11T13:50:10Z

This game was pretty cool, and fun to play as well.

The things that stuck out to me was the idea, it was pretty cool with the world population and such.

Being able to start areas and then go on, moving throughout the world was interesting. Having to convince people I was peaceful rather than take over their countries/areas by force was a nice touch too, however it led to some difficult problems gameplay wise xD Also, once you have enough people you make a lot and lot of money, which makes the game very easy. Otherwise, the game was still well thought out and had solid mechanics. Good Job!

Spermy by KingofWhaWha 2017-05-05T06:16:35Z

So this was a more polished game then most (although I've only rated 1 jam i think, the rest have been compos).

I'll try to break down the game through all the aspects, but I don't have much time so I will have to replay it later to get a better understanding. Note: I didn't play as much as I want, and I'll change the ratings later, but I can't gaurentee I'll make a new comment >-<

First off the biggest part to me was: Graphics! The game had very nice, clear, appeasing, and polished graphics. I am a huge fan of pixel art, and an aspiring pixel artist, as I am not too good.

Next, gameplay. Gameplay was fun enough, although I was all alone for the few minutes I played it xD When my brother wakes up tomorrow, we can play and I will go over my ratings.

Project Alpha by TMW 2017-05-09T03:51:33Z

I'll put it this way:

It was an interesting game and QUITE a feat for the time given. There were many option available like said muiltiplayer.

Not only that, but the game had a depth and level of detail that is amazing for one person in however much time you had (I'm assuming this is the Jam, sorry if its not!)

The good level of gameplay itself also was helpful, but the only problem to me was the theme (which in heinsight isn't really a problem, you didn't have to follow it) and the lack of motivation to play.

Other than that, you have an amazing game that I'm sure you could go places with.

I was also unable to test the muiltiplayer to see if it would work. I'll do so later

Entropy by SleepyStudios 2017-05-09T03:49:08Z

A nice solid little game. It was very innovative with the idea and such. Best things to me were:

-Gameplay -Music -Graphics

I always say this to pixel art games, but the graphics were good! Even though for this one, it ended up having simple, little graphics.

So this game seems pretty small right now, pretty good for a few days, but if you could expand on it, I'm sure you could go places.

Small Tactics by JanGamesDev 2017-05-11T02:38:19Z

So the game was fun in itself, and it had a really cool "tactical" gimmick to it.

Sometimes however, the UI would be buggy, etc.

The simple art style was interesting, and seemed to fit the overall aesthetic of the game. I could see you weren't able to make music or sound effects, and the lack of sound effects really impacted the gaming experience.

It was really evidence that Fire Emblem was your inspiration, and you pulled off the gameplay mechanic of turns really well in my opinion. Though, sometimes I was finding it hard to tell what was happening.

With some more polish I'm sure a complete game could be made.

Battle Bugs by flyingbear 2017-05-14T02:11:44Z

Basically, a fun little quick game! Reminded of most arcade games I've played.

This is one of my top ten for most fun, it had a cool idea and cool gameplay mechanics. Well done!

Recognition by maysick 2017-05-17T04:42:05Z

It was a fun little game, and one that I was glad I picked. It was really well planned and polished, and the gameplay/graphics were pretty solid as well.

I enjoyed playing because it gave me more purpose and depth than most other games, and it was (as said by the person above me) mainly a strategy game, which I really liked. The beginning was also put together very well, and after some instruction I found myself playing well in no time.

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Radiation by KunoNoOni 2017-12-06T01:06:32Z

Neat little game. I got so shocked, I had 1 more bar until I was at full radiation and I rolled anyway xd

Managed to survive and I passed the turn next.

I won my first game and went off, hopefully I found a better place.

Electrical Overload by Skosnowich 2017-12-07T00:24:52Z

A lot of things going on here; A tutorial would be nice but I understand. Other than that it was pretty cool to playthrough. The description was enough ^-^

Not candy crush by eptwalabha 2017-12-06T01:02:45Z

Just my kind of game; Hard puzzle

In fact it was too hard for me at the start; i couldn't get past the 2nd level at first, but as I learned the quirks I kept going.

It took me a while to realize you can drag them anywhere at first idk y.

Radioactive Rumble by weeping-rupee 2017-12-06T03:16:27Z

A nice fun little game. I really enjoyed the art style, reminded me of a game from the 90s i think. Nicely done in the alloted time!

Of Fates and Feels by bwalter 2017-12-06T15:54:46Z

I liked this one, it was a nice little game. Not too much at the start, and easy to get into (although a bit difficult)

It would be nice (for me at least) to put a number that shows the total hp of your team, so I could get more of a gauge on my choices. And another choice would be nice, but the game is really good already :)

Killian Haze forgot his identity ;(

A good submission; very unique compared to what I've seen so far.

SPLIT by steven-pinto 2017-12-06T03:29:07Z

A few little things I need to get say before the start: It would be nice to put a shortcut so I don't have to go through all the files, and it has no name xd

Sorry for being petty, back to the review: At the beginning there is a bug where a rectangle appears on the dialogue or something idk

The graphics were reaaallyl good though wow. Everything fit together to make a nice experience, and it was helped by the music, nice and spoooky.

While I agree you could see the ending coming, it still was an enjoyable (if dark) story to play through, and its amazing you finished it! Also, the level design was really well thought out in means of the story.

As someone said before, were you trying to follow the theme as in more personalities, worse it is? I tried doing that, but it didn't turn out well xd

The name fit very well :)

Well done; great job

Identity by Kataware 2017-12-07T03:04:40Z

Catdventure by Andreas Ragen Ayal 2017-12-07T00:14:42Z

One of the nicer funy little games I've played.

It had a lot of polish, and the grab lasting a few seconds as well as the player bouncing everywhere made it quiet a difficult game. For me, I think the bounce was a little too much, or that the time was too short, but I'm not very good at hard games xd

Due to the level design and bounciness, I would either be between the red sofa and the nest, just dropping them in one by one, or struggling to get into the whole left between them, with a cat in my mouth that would jump out as soon as I failed my jump.

Sometimes I found I was unable to grab a kitten, not sure why. Other than that, the music fit really well, and the graphics were exceptional as well! Who doesn't love kittens!

And also, thanks for leaving such an in depth review of my game, I reallly reallly appreciate that :)

Overrun by Asellio 2017-12-06T03:12:48Z

Considering the time alloted, it wasn't a bad game. I liked the graphics and music (like a lot of people here) and it played through pretty smoothly. As the person above me said, AI is very simple, but it also is veeerry hard, so I won't complain about that.

It was interesting to have such a nice looking character, but then pixelated trees xd

LD42 — Running out of space

Memory by Kataware 2018-08-14T22:04:40Z

@dk5000p @samusoidal Thanks for playing!

Yea, I actually spent less than 5-10% of my time playtesting, and most of it wasn't even playtesting combat. Therefore, basically every gun is overpowered.

The villagers didn't have random speech, but I was in a rush for time xD I suppose that would have made the world feel more alive, especially if they had actually moved.

I actually never thought of telling the player that, I was in too much ofa rush to affirm the player new the map/void existed.

Indeed, it was very similar to many popular games xD

Memory by Kataware 2018-08-15T06:09:31Z

@zachary-granger originally, I meant for the story to be that you were a robot, who was given the program of being a sentient human being.

But this undertaking proved to be too much, and your robotic brain was corrupted, which is why the void is closing in on the world. A few lines of dialogue would be enought to tell the story, but I finished in quite literally the last minute soooo xD

Thanks for playing!

Memory by Kataware 2018-08-16T04:28:43Z

@triplefox

Thanks for your in depth criticisms!

That is very true, I didn't in essence "beat the grind", in fact I made it more boring.

I added a lot of useless things that wasted time better off spent on more useful systems (instead of a cooking/farming system maybe more mobs and quests)

You were exactly right, I didn't focus my resources properly, which I find is a regular problem for me in not just game jams but in developing my other games, so I'm still working on fixing that xD

Thanks for playing!

The way experience level ups are calculated involves 2 variables, the maximum level and the total amount of experience needed to reach that level. Last minute, I decided 1 million experience to reach level 99 was too much, so I changed it to 100k and published it. So yea, balancing issues xD

In addition, yes the dexterity is broken. I got lazy and simply made every point of dexterity bring up the number of attacks per second by a number (i think 0.5) so it gets incredibly broken.

I noticed the random damage too, I thought I had fixed it as I was never able to replicate it again. Will take another look!

I brought a tera burning character up to 200 last week, so perhaps that is why it had many similarities to Maplestory. xD

This was almost like a Prototype for a Sidescroller RPG I had in the back of my head, so maybe I will take it somewhere, one day.

Thanks again for playing!

@christina-antoinette-neofotistou Thanks!

I think I've learned my lesson to not make RPGs in game jams now xD

@firebug Glad you enjoyed!

@mza Ahh I never got to replacing the HUD so it is quit obstructive.

I used FL Studio with basically all default plugins (a little nexus here and there)

Thanks for playing!

@samh

Thanks for playing!

Yea, I've never been good at making UI's, and this one was no different than most of my other game jam entries. The Dialogue just came up when the player walked into certain areas, and I didn't have the presence of mind to really fine tune the levels.

You've probably noticed some of the abilities are a little, lack luster, I think half of them were made in the last 3 hours xd

Thanks again!

Very atmospheric! I've never been a fan of scary games/movies, and this one had me so scared! It didn't even have any jump scares (that I'm aware of) but walking around with the creepy vibe, everything red, spikes and scary paintings everywhere, as well as the sound effects had me on the edge of my seat.

The first time I saw the black cloud monster thingy I screamed a little.

I would have liked to see something than the default unity sliders for the UI, but I liked the minimalist interface overall. In addition, the graphics were pretty exceptional.

And when the door popped open and the figure came out, goddam I closed the game and it took me a while to reopen it.

I ended up not sacrificing blood at every alter just because I could finish it, sorry xD

Overall, exceptional work, especially in the Mood, Graphics, and Audio.

Watching by kristinamay 2018-12-04T02:02:07Z

A very interesting game (as many people have pointed out), and one I've never seen before this LD.

The whole experience was pretty smooth and polished, even if the story was seemingly random. Thats not to say it wasn't entertaining, as I found myself pretty enraptured in the game.

I myself didn't experience any bugs. For a first every game, its not bad! Maybe work on it a bit more, make multiple endings and you have yourself a complete game!

Good job overall, very unique.

Baby Grenade by publicidadeba 2018-12-04T01:55:50Z

I like the music! Plus I love voxel graphics! Gameplay was pretty decent, sometimes I got snuck up from behind and I would die (or lose my virginity[Love the voice lines btw xD]), so an indicator for when I took damage would have been nice.

One thing I found a tad annoying was my inability to jump, as in games I tend to jump around a lot. A small thing, but just something that stuck out to me.

All in all, good job!

Card And Run by bloodyaugust 2018-04-23T02:12:11Z

Interesting game, I got a high score of 14 :p that bat was hard to get past.

The graphics were pretty decent, although I found myself a bit lost at first, as is to be expected I suppose.

I guess it could use some animations for drawing cards and such but considering time circumstances, well done!

Felocity by Adam Wallberg 2018-04-23T02:16:40Z

All in all, the funnest game I've played so far! (Even though I haven't played that many I'm sure it'll stay that way for a bit)

It was a bit confusing at first knowing what to touch and what not to though xd

The art and music were good, sounds fit everything, although refreshing the page after touching pickles was an interesting way to play again.

Nice job!

All imma say it good game, much ddr. much gud song. much well done!

Drive Threw by Zachary Burkett 2018-04-25T01:54:19Z

This was a fun little game, but I have my own problems with it

The connection between the "drive around" game and the "make food game" weren't that cohesive imo. Don't get me wrong it was a nice idea and implemented well, and I had my share of burnt patties before I realized I should probably flip it over, but the fact that I could just park somewhere, make the burger, and then leave to the person was a bit amiss. I get there was a time limit, but perhaps something like the player having to follow a particular path rather than a winding road and slow grass would have added to the connection and difficulty.

Other than that, the systems were implemented beautifully, although I feel there should have been a trash bin somewhere, as my cab was soon full of burnt patties lettuce etc xD

I played a few times (restarting as there was no play again button xd) and finally beat my dismal and initial score of -5 points. I don't think my first customer appreciated having two buns on top of cooked lettuce, all resting on a patty, but go figure I got 8 points xD

All in all, nicely done.

@ehtd @krp @bloodyaugust @notgreat @Jason Kennedy @igorimagine Thanks for the input!

@bloodyaugust Yea, I really couldn't decide on an aesthetic for the game so it got caught in between two.

@notgreat Indeed, the combat part is a really shoddy, poorly designed system. I mean, hit notes = enemy lose hp, miss notes = you lose it? It seems more like a skin for a rhythm game, and I've been toying with a lot of ideas such as only applying damage when losing combos/beating the level, or perhaps trying to make it a turn based game of some sort. We'll see ;p

@Jason Kennedy I was rushed xD

@igorimagine and yea, I planned for RPG x Rhythm game, but time got me TvT

Ryth by Kataware 2018-04-24T01:52:05Z

@Blinkenlights Thanks xd, even if the bosses textures are QUITE lack luster ;p

Ryth by Kataware 2018-04-25T02:20:34Z

@n00b @MegRabbit @Nerobius Thanks for your input!

@n00b Yea, the rhythm was basically all that was in the game, the combat aspect was nonexistent!

@MegRabbit Perhaps you are dying? XD In the screenshot it looks like your healthbar is at 0. If its too hard maybe I should tone down the difficulty ;p Hitting 100 and 50 notes restore health, but missing and hitting 25 makes you lose health until you eventually die. I've noticed the HTML5 version being a bit buggier and picky about timing than normal, perhaps thats an issue.

@Nerobius Yea, I should have implement a system like that. My original game had 5 keys, using the spacebar hence the gap between DF and JK. If you've ever played osu, the osu!mania 4k gamemode is similar to this, and thats why I kept it like that. Once I'm done with my homework I'll be happy to check your game out!

Ryth by Kataware 2018-04-25T02:27:02Z

@MegRabbit I’m not quite sure then xD

Ryth by Kataware 2018-04-25T02:44:08Z

@legavroche OH MY Why did I never think of that?!

I was thinking of adding mods to the game like 2x speed but I never once thought of making the game easier xD And I'm uploading the soundtrack right now, not quite the same experience as playing the game but anyone who wants to listen to the tracks unimpeded may now do so as they please ^-^

And thanks!

Ryth by Kataware 2018-04-25T04:03:45Z

@NoahRo @Conroy @DoctorMozart Thanks for your input!

and @DoctorMozart OMG YOU DID IT XD Well done! Don't worry, you did beat it, I'm fairly sure its impossible to kill the boss on that level. If you had full combo'ed it I would pay you on the spot xD And thanks, I usually try to make my music catchy ;p

@NoahRo The controls aren't the best xd I wish now that I had added a way to remap it. ANd don't worry the 'chords' or hitting more than one at once were a bit confusing to me at first as well xD

Ryth by Kataware 2018-04-25T23:12:05Z

@balance686 I’m glad you liked it! Thanks!

Ryth by Kataware 2018-04-26T02:59:27Z

@caterein Ooh great idea! and Cheers!

Ryth by Kataware 2018-04-28T00:36:15Z

@Ashtrail Thanksss! Yea, the controls were a bit. . . strange to say the least. I had wanted to use 5 keys before, but switched last minute, causing a gap between df and jk. Perhaps fghj would have worked better or something. In addition, hitting 25 notes caused a loss of health which perhaps wasn't a great idea.

@Alchemic I don't deploy to web often so yea, sorry bout that xd And halfway through is pretty good! Thanks for playing!

Ryth by Kataware 2018-05-02T01:18:41Z

@AlejandrodeCea WOOOWW Good job on Todes Fantasia! A B is the highest so far xd!

Unravel was pretty bad towards then end, and one problem with the notes was that some notes started "in between beats" of the normal bpm. The song is 135 bpm I believe, and my tick system doubles that to 270 bpm, but cannot place notes any faster than 270 bpm, hence why some are off. Also, I got lazy xD

The selection bar is a bit wierd, and I've always use the scroll wheel ;p I forgot to fix it

Oh I never thought of restarting! Common sense, once again I forgot xD

Thanks for playing!

PSS: I listened to it again and it does sound a bit like your reality from ddlc, maybe my mind had use that as inspiration in the back of my head xd

Ryth by Kataware 2018-05-04T01:54:15Z

@lotus Ooh, an interesting proposition. That does make sense. And yea, everything in 48, although the "art" could have been a great amount better xd

Thanks!

Shuffle Climber by miroky 2018-04-25T01:33:14Z

This was a nice little game i'm impressed owo

Especially with the polish. However (as someone said above me) it was a bit random, as in you can only move in a finite number of ways based on cards you randomly receive. Of course, based on time there really is no other way to implement a system like yours without this, and it added a nice little thing to the game that made me feel like it wasn't just up to me to win, but my skill as a player still counted. A way to fix this would be to draw random cards from a player chosen deck like hearthstone, but imagine the time it would take to implement xD

All that aside it was a fun one ^-^

Shuffle Climber by miroky 2018-04-25T02:01:51Z

@AlejandrodeCea Ooh if it does come out on mobile I'll definitely check it out! Glhf!

EDIT: Never mind it loaded ;p

Deck of the Dead by Balance686 2018-04-25T04:12:01Z

Ooh this was a fun one. Memory x zombie survival ;)

I'll be honest my first play through I didn't move at all and i only shot one bullet xd The next time I was more prudent, and lasted almost enough to clear the board. However, Upon turning over one of the lose all credit zombie cards, the game froze and didn't resume again, which might be my computer again xd

All in all fun little game.

DinoGrow by Conroy 2018-04-25T02:16:59Z

Before I start my review, I have a few bugs:

I tried joining the games I saw, but it failed the numerous times I attempted, even after letting the game access my internet. Eventually the servers went down and I was left alone ;( Also, when pressing escape while in the game, the mouse is freed but remains hidden, and returning to the main menu holds no avail, as the mouse is still invisible. Also, while playing, sometimes the mouse remains hidden but is unlocked, so moving to the right or left caused the mouse to leave the window sometimes.

Also, I added 2 players to the game for whatever reason, and after clicking on carnivore, the game froze. Idk

Now onto the review:

First thing I noticed was the camera was angled a bit to low for my taste, and therefore it was hard to see everything. In addition, moving the mouse to move the player, which in turn moved the camera was a bit different from the traditional move camera to move player, but it works

Eventually I saw three herbivores, who magically walked into the air and all started floating in one spot xD It was a sight to behold.

Also, the carnivore attack animation fit, but because the herbivore animation required it to stand still, it looked kinda strange sliding across the ground xd A fix for this is to use animation masks or something, and have the legs in its own separate continuum, so when the attack animation is played the legs stay in the walk animation. I did something like that a year ago, so I've forgotten how to fix it but you could probably find a guide somewhere.

Aside from a few collision bugs, I was able to romp around the island freely, yet without any prey to hunt :( I'll probably hop back on later with some friends to check out the pvp though xd

It was a neat little "battle royale" game, but currently without any friends online, it seemed like walking simulator. Don't get me wrong the pvp seems fun, but I'll have to try it much later xd.

Well done you two!

DinoGrow by Conroy 2018-04-25T02:52:18Z

@pcoridan Well I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors! Always remember, you just made a game in a weekend! where you take it from there is up to you two, and who knows where it'll take ya.

Shot Thru The Heart by sheehan 2018-04-23T02:33:03Z

Most of it stuck together pretty well, the music, graphics, gameplay, dialogue etc.

One minor thing I had was I think you should goto the next dialogue box when the player clicks rather than going there once all the text is written on the screen. Impatient people like me would click and it would instantly go away xd

All in all nice job!

Reverse by MrJake7X 2018-04-25T01:35:44Z

Wow, incredible polish and design, although I had my little things that were a tad out of place. I've seen a few games (outside of game jams) that implement the use of switching between two unique characters, and in my opinion this game pulled it off pretty well! Although, the simple puzzles seemed to be a detriment to the overall "fun" factor of the game.

Besides that, the graphics were beautiful and overall had decent polish.

Well done!

They Came For The Chips! by nina 2018-04-23T23:40:39Z

I found it a bit strange the cars/enemies didn't follow the path but it works xd

Really polished (besides the main menu ig), and the graphics/music/sound worked really well. What would have been cool is to see the stats for the buildings, like the damage and such, but considering time constraints, well done!

btw the second level was a tad harder, took me a while to beat xd

College Story by n00b 2018-04-25T01:44:30Z

Audio was nice and jumpy to fit. As @raffe said, I really didn't have time to read the questions properly and therefore I failed a lot before I got used to reading and answering quickly, as well as keeping one eye on avoiding every letter until I knew which was the correct one.

Sometimes I got "trapped" between incorrect answers and was forced to hit one, but I guess thats to be expected with RNG xd

All in all, it was a neat little game, and had me testing my knowledge xd

And btw, I made sure to read the description and see "This game was programmed in RCBasic." so I didn't miss that question xD
