Very cool concept! I wanted to do something card-based as well but couldn't think of a good idea for it. My only complaint is that it was hard to guage how far a jump card or duck card would take me, but maybe that's part of the challenge :)
My high score is 15! Great job!
@matthew-roelle Thanks for the playing, and the idea! I wanted to do a "ghost projection" when the player hovered a card, but alas, ran out of time.

Interesting game, I got a high score of 14 :p that bat was hard to get past.
The graphics were pretty decent, although I found myself a bit lost at first, as is to be expected I suppose.
I guess it could use some animations for drawing cards and such but considering time circumstances, well done!

Very interesting concept. Got a highscore of 14 :)

That's a surprisingly good combination, with just a few card and obstacle types the game has some depth to it. Some changes I would like to see is having the main character a bit more on the left, so you can see and plan ahead a bit more. And also some way to mute/lower the volume of those ear-piercing sound effects...

Like @Matthew Roelle said, bit hard to tell distances. Nonetheless, it was a really fun game. Got to 100.
Love the graphics. Wish I could do pixel art that well. The sound when you pick a card is **_harsh_** and I had to turn off my speakers. Also, it wasn't really clear what the discard card's icon meant (until I'd used it a few times).
Finally, I don't know whether I just suck at forethought or whether the game's randomness (is it random? I could never really tell) put me in a no-win situation, but I could never get that far.
Wow, this is so simple in such a great way. It's so nice to pick up a game and play it straight away! I love the balancing act you need to perform to have the right cards ready for the obstacles. It really makes it tense. My high score was only 15! I couldn't figure out how to get past the bats. That's one pretty big improvement that could be made to the game: on-screen prompts that show you how to get past obstacles the first time you encounter them in a play session.
Good job and keep making games!

@bloodyaugust Good job on this game! Ended up getting a score of 51 and I gotta say, the randomness of the cards and moving forward with them is really fun :P.
I like how each obstacle is triggered by a certain card. That made the game quite enjoyable once you understood how to avoid these :). Good Job!
Very fun to play and visually atractive! Found myself playing over and over to test new ways of surpassing the obstacles and increase the highscore (got 78). An overall very enjoyable experience. Keep it up

Cool idea. Needs to be polished. Smooth animation and deeper hand manage depth would help.

it's very nice and fun :) but sound is cun my ears :)
Thank you all for the kind words and generous feedback! I'll add a mute button, as has been suggested by many... xD
@Moczan That's an excellent suggestion, the player should absolutely be further left.
@Slashee-the-Cow I'm glad you think so! I took this jam as an opportunity to improve my skill in that area, as I'm really quite the opposite of artistically inclined...
Love the strategy and the work in the pixel artistry, style is nice and cohesive. Could easily have this expanded into a weird deck building rogue-lite thing. Good execution on the core of an interesting idea. This what LD is all about baby

Cool idea, the art looks really nice. I'd love to see it developed more outside of the jam, I think the idea has a lot more potential!

the game looks and feels great. the only thing i would sugest is to redesign the card mechanic to not move when getting new cards. and maybe add some diagonal jumps in there too.
Neat concept, the art is decent, could use some animation to make it more lively. The sound design is minimal, and it would definitely feel much better with some music added. The gameplay is very RNG based, which is fitting for a card game, but I kept getting to where both the bat and the rock aligned, and it was impossible to pass. Either way, I enjoyed what I played! Good work! ;)
Hey, you're right, we both picked very similar themes and the results are very different! I think that the ghost projection you mentioned above would have been a good addition, but equally I would encourage using a tweening library to add animations to make the movement a little less jarring. Still, it was fun to play!
It works well. Art is nice, but it's begging for a bit more animation and music!
I liked it: I'm not familiar with the "gard game" genre - I feel like this is the perfect introduction, because I'm very familiar with infinite runners. The randomness of the cards annoyed me at first, but you can be a bit strategic by looking ahead, so when I lost I blamed the RNG and when I did something cool I attributed it to my skill!

I enjoyed this! The graphics and sound could use a bit of polish, and perhaps it would be better if the obstacles were randomly-generated, but overall, it's a good time-waster. It's tricky to try and plan ahead, especially with the "discard" cards, but it's a great feeling when you put a nice run together. My best so far is 16 - I got a bunch of 2x cards in a row and reached that one rock before the bat did. Get rekt, bat. Nice game.
Nice art, found it fiendishly difficult though!

Nice Graphics. I love how you execute all the scenes and the music as well. Good Job!
@EkkoEkko If you're not even going to play the game but rate and comment to farm karma, then you can fuck right off.
@pov Is there a report function for things like the above?

@bloodyaugust Sorry if you miss understand. I choose a wrong words. What i mean is that i like that the execution scene movement of the character every selection of the cards and the *sound. Im not asking for a karma or to rate my game im just commenting is that wrong? ga.jpg
Hey, nice work here! I had a whopping score of 88! Woooo!
I think the art is pretty cool (do not sell yourself so short for being a coder, man! xD) and everything is well rounded. The card system is simple but effective. I just missed a bit some bg music or some sound effects for the obstacles but I know how hard is to work on audio, specially for a compo game!
Good job! :D
@EkkoEkko Sorry about my knee-jerk response from earlier. I was much less gracious than I could have been. I don't begrudge you for not having English as a primary language, and I can understand that it is difficult to say the right things. I don't want to discourage you from participating in the compo in the future, but I also have a duty to protect the community (as do we all) from those that would look to abuse it. For a single-scene game with no music (and bad audio being the primary complaint in previous comments), it seemed like a feeble attempt to gain karma. I hope you understand that my abrasive language was a result of that misinterpretation.

Hi @bloodyaugust I understand you. Im also hate those people farming a karma. Sorry also for my bad english. Thank you! :).

At the first try I didn't quite get it, but know that I understand the mechanics it's actually a really fun gameplay (my high score is 40)! The graphics are obviously great. I'm just wondering if there is some situation where it's impossible to succeed, like an enemy right before or after a stone ? Anyway you did a really great job !
Quite a nice game! Mechanically it is perhaps quite simple, with the only controls being the cards, but I liked that! I found it quite easy to understand what to do after a couple runs of trial and error, and then the game opened up in terms of its depth, since I was juggling having useful cards in my hand versus whether or not I felt I could make it far enough without a re-shuffle. Graphically I quite enjoyed the game - I enjoy pixelated styles, and the game does look quite nice. Would have liked perhaps an audio track or more sound effects, but there's only so much time to make the game in, and that's really only a bonus, since the game is complete as is.
@polegar There absolutely are positions you can get yourself in that are un-winnable, but the idea is that you have to manage your hand to avoid those. I haven't done that math, but I suppose even with a well-managed hand, it is possible to get screwed by the randomness inherent in the card draw mechanic. Thanks for your feedback!
@Torak-Whiteleopard I'm glad you enjoyed the game! Indeed, I wish I had more time to set a mood with better audio as well, but as you mentioned... time limits are a bitch sometimes.
really like the core concept of this game and you made the two genres work well together - thanks for making this

Cool game! Really enjoyed it, even though I think that I sometimes survived even if I should have died. It would be really cool, if you left some feed back for our game (https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/cartds), thanks!
