I'd love it if you could make a version with everything twice as fast (movement, animations, cutscenes). I'll play through it regardless, just stating my request. :-)
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD38 → Train World

nice game but why use media fire when you can use ich.io?
I got a crash after the third room of rats, trying to go through the next door.
Really great game so far. Unfortunately, I also had it crash after the third rat encounter. I liked the art style, but one thing I would suggest is making the boxes that have consumables a different color than the rest of the boxes. Let me know if the crashing issue gets fixed, I would love to see more!
Roguelike in a train, nice idea! Looks pretty. The fights got a bit repetitive after a while. Didn't figure out how to pick up the rat meat.
The game crashed while I tried to exit the third car. I wasn't sure how I could heal, as I only got one package of rat's meat. The dog was an excellent addition.
From what I saw of this, I liked the RPG aspect, and getting a pet early on. I too experienced the issue where the game froze when exiting a car after a few rat encounters. Would love to have played further to get deeper into the story of this civilization that lives on a train.
Liked the story and atmosphere aspect, the game hanged after dog and rats:(
For anyone reading this - The bug has been fixed, it should be fine now! Thanks for playing and rating!
It had a cool story, nice graphics, and interesting gameplay.
One of the games I liked the most are RPG type titles, and this one fit pretty ok. Rogue-like games I've also appreciated over the past few years, and this one also fit well.
The pixel art style made the whole game look so much better. Also, the gameplay and story fit well, giving a very nice and well put together authentic rogue-like experience.
My only problem would probably be that the fighting scenes were a bit repetitive after a while, it became just spamming Attack sometimes. I would recommend adding abilities (or just one) and a Guard ability that blocks or reduces damage taken next turn
Other than that, it was a well put together game and a true marvel considering the time given.
The fights did indeed get quite boring very quickly … But hey, got to the boss :)
The art style was really good and the opening was really well made. It had some humor and enough atmoshpere to capture you.
The gameplay worked ok but it felt like it missed a little bit of strategy. Maybe an extra ability or something would have been nice because it felt that you just clicked on attack all the time and using as little items as possible until the boss. Also it became a little repetetive with the same layouts a couple of times.
Overall an enjoyable game thanks to the story and overall atmosphere and great graphics but lacked a bit in the gameplay.
Best experienced with "Folsom Prison Blues" playing in the background.
Nicely done!
Liked the game. But had the feeling that my choices were not very important. Felt a little linear.
Nice game ! I didn't see much of a rogue like in my humble opinion, but i maybe missed some hints about it, i suppose the wagons were procedurally placed ? Anyway ! I liked the pixel art and the mood, and the idea of a giant train simply being the entire world ! It very much lacked of audio and sound effect, i think your games would have been so much funnier otherwise. And maybe fighting system should have been more various with items, weapons, or ultimate technique of apocalypse ? Just kidding, good job ! (Y'a un bug entre baton/wooden stick, c'est pas clair)
Thanks for putting this together! The sprites were solid, that dog looked boss -- a quote from someone watching me play on stream :) I died to Harper, it didn't seem like I had any choices along the way. Must attack every rat, no other options, no way to avoid the encounter, and I couldn't pick up the rat meat. Doggo did a good job while I was alive. I hope Harper treats him well.
Fun game! Would have liked some sounds or music. Also would be nice to know when your item has worn down. Graphics were decent for a Compo. Wished there were at least one hidden crate in one of the empty train cars. Overall this is a good start to what could be an endless runner style game.
This is a cool entry with some great achievements as having cutscenes and some solid gameplay. Congratulations!
What is in the box dropped by the conductor? Loved it, though.
@sgadrat Just a normal item, seems like I forgot to change it so he doesn't drop items :D
I really enjoyed this entry! I like the sense of humour, and the last dregs of humanity being on a giant train tooo... nowhere? Somewhere? The mysteries!
The hitbox for picking up items is super tiny, I only got it in the end because it was frustrating running into items I thought I couldn't pick up. I went back to pick up an item I missed then found I could collect infinite (well.. three) doggos. So that was nice but I suspect unintended. ;P
I like the pixel art and the overall mood, it's just missing the music/sound effects to make the whole thing feel juicy. But understandable given this is all your own work!
Nice job! :D
