LD38 — A Small World

Endless Hexagon by David Cookie 2017-05-10T00:46:31Z

I thought this was really fun, even though I was complete rubbish at it. Literally, a monkey clicking randomly could do better than me. The best score I managed strategically after a few plays was a little over 2800, but then one game I just clicked randomly and scored 3080.

I don't think it's any fault of yours, the concept of the game was explained well and I do understand the theory behind it, but translating that into recycles and points just eludes me.

Anyway, like I said, this game is fun. In addition it has good graphics and sound, and is definitely unique. Great job!

UFO in a box of bricks by maartene 2017-05-05T20:37:42Z

This was fun, it was like Zaxxon meets Angry Birds. The soundtrack was really groovy, and I loved the physics of the projectiles. Good graphics, too. Great job!

Bubble Boy by rjhelms 2017-05-11T11:18:15Z

This is an interesting, unique little platformer. The bounce mechanic was fun. Sometimes the character seemed to do a super-high jump, not sure if that was intended since I could not do it reliably. Also I found that I could win most levels with minimal damage by just holding right and fire.

Overall, great job.

liftoff by Remco 2017-05-06T12:34:18Z

This brings back memories of space trading games way back in the day. I liked the movement mechanic with the way the planets' gravity captures your ship, though I would perhaps prefer the thrust to be a little bit slower with a bit more control. Overall, nice job!

Routine by Breno_M 2017-05-04T03:07:42Z

Very well executed. Great mood, and a very interesting game mechanic. Would love to see this expanded.

A Cage of Love by Quetzakol 2017-05-07T18:56:53Z

I think what some people are experiencing with the phone booth is that some of the event triggers are positioned so that the player doesn't necessarily hit them. For instance, it is possible to go past the fence without triggering the "As I approached the phone box" dialog. This causes enemies to spawn right on top of the player when the next event is triggered.

The art style was really good. As far as the story, I thought the partner seemed really passive - literally did not move a pixel the entire game while the world collapsed in around them. It made the last choice pretty easy for me. Maybe that was the point, but the partner would have been more likable as a character and the loving relationship more believable with some teamwork in the gameplay, or maybe switching points-of-view from one partner to the other. Love takes two sides working together.

Nice work overall.

Wrong Delivery by g12345 2017-05-11T02:12:41Z

Seeing the goal on the starting screen was delightfully deceiving. I thought "OK, simple enough", and all of a sudden, I'm in the middle of a mini-Metroidvania, all to get a package! The movement mechanics were good, with one small issue - jumping though 1-block gaps was a little hit-or-miss. Overall, this was a lot of fun to play through.

Turing Compete by Kaisean Games 2017-05-11T17:33:15Z

This was pretty fun. I got it to make some interesting diagonal patterns by modifying the default instructions, I'm sure if I put more time into it I could do even more.

Might I suggest using icons instead of letters in the list of instructions - one of the things I had to figure out is which letter meant which thing in the instruction - is it a state? a direction, a terrain type?

Some polish and some goals and this can definitely be a game that would get me interested.

Quantum by rwoeltjes 2017-05-04T17:17:18Z

Nice concept with the particles only being able to be seen when observed. I did find a degenerate strategy, though, where I could just camp a corner with relative immunity and focus on a small firing arc. Nonetheless, great job!

small World of Underbury by Listonos 2017-05-02T03:30:59Z

Very well done, I had a lot of fun playing this. I found a bit of an exploit, though, regarding continually defaming someone who is already at rock bottom.

World Fighter by LeviDSmith 2017-05-12T11:06:03Z

Pretty good graphics, and I liked the over-the-top sound effects, they worked well for the game. I kept expecting a second enemy type - maybe that's something to add if you decide to take this further. Perhaps also there could be rounds where the enemies come to the player.

Great job!

Protolife by icxon 2017-05-05T17:37:26Z

Wow. That was thoroughly enjoyable. Everything was spot on. The music was excellent, especially the switch between incubation and infection phases. Great job!

Your Planet: Too Big by Scriptorum 2017-05-03T00:52:17Z

This is a really fun and addictive little game! I loved the puzzle mechanics and the alien dialogue. Great job.

King of the world by Linus 2017-05-03T01:56:45Z

Very cool, fast paced world domination game. Seems the best strategy (I found) is to strike with full force as soon as possible. Great job!

Orchardstra by CyberStarLight 2017-05-08T16:43:01Z

Cool graphics and sound and a very unique concept. Like others, it took me a minute to figure out how to aim the hammer. I didn't really have any idea which head was contributing which subtrack, but it was fun to make this huge cacophonous spinning cube. Great job!

Luggage Robber by bemmu 2017-05-12T11:28:57Z

Interesting concept, and pretty well executed in the earlier stages. The crowd gets pretty impossible to navigate in the later levels, though (around level 12 or 13). The music and vocal FX were good, too. I liked how some of the airports had special things, like a giant panda statue blocking your way. If you were to take this further, I'd suggest that every airport have a special like this. Great job!

Too Big For This WorLD38 by joemid 2017-05-09T02:42:22Z

The graphics were great, and the sound was awesome, too, however, I had no idea what I was doing. Once I managed to get a sequence with a Saurian in a cape, but I have no idea how, it was just dumb luck. Eventually I ended up back in the first level (not sure if I died or what). Most of my time was spent on the first "level" trying to figure out what to do with the big white dino or the couple of smaller ones I was able to take control of (and I couldn't do that consistently).

I think what this needs most is something to walk us through the nuances of what we are supposed to be doing.

Flight Club by dj_pale 2017-05-03T01:30:39Z

This was a lot of fun. I felt like I was doing terrible with planes crashing everywhere and missed flights, but the game kept going for a good long while. Catchy little background music, too. Great job!

Mini Shaders by bestnickname 2017-05-07T22:19:28Z

This is a fun little coding puzzle game. One idea I had in case you are interested in taking this further: The instruction set can get progressively more advanced as new hardware is introduced. For example, v2.0 of the instruction set can have stack capabilities, which would allow more complex puzzles AND possibly allow prior puzzles to be completed with fewer moves. Overall, great job!

Walkabout by Galan 2017-05-06T11:51:35Z

The outlined graphics were interesting and well done, and made for a very nice aesthetic while keeping the focus on the road. The suspenseful drone in the background really helped highlight the mood. Nice job!

Run, U Fool! by zgragselus 2017-05-09T03:31:24Z

Both the graphics and sound were excellent. The graphics were among the best I've seen in a LD. The gameplay was mostly excellent as well - my only (very minor) observation is that sometimes it can seem a bit random whether you get the right color in time. This was more of an issue on the concentric levels. Excellent entry!

SmallHexWorld by japes 2017-05-10T00:18:16Z

Nice puzzle game. After a few tries, I managed a respectable 8107. The way the tiles interacted with each other was good. Managing the wasteland tiles was especially challenging. Great job!

Submersible by kleinzach 2017-05-06T12:24:33Z

This is a nice, chill little exploration simulator. I enjoyed figuring out what the buttons did. The graphics and lighting were really good and contributed to the mood, and the generated environment felt more than varied enough for a LD entry. Great job!

Going No Air by starspell 2017-05-09T03:43:19Z

This was a lot of fun. The graphics were great, the sound was great, and the gameplay was delightfully unique. It could be a bit frustrating at times to position a limb over an inconveniently-placed hole, but I'm thinking that's supposed to be part of the experience. Great job!

TerminAnt by davikin92 2017-05-03T20:29:37Z

I really liked the inside-the-backpack environment. Great use of the theme!

Shapeshifter: The King of A Small World by Rixud 2017-05-05T11:01:40Z

The powers given by the various bugs seemed well balanced against each other. With some more polish you could really have something here. Great job!

Train World by mar3k 2017-05-08T16:02:48Z

From what I saw of this, I liked the RPG aspect, and getting a pet early on. I too experienced the issue where the game froze when exiting a car after a few rat encounters. Would love to have played further to get deeper into the story of this civilization that lives on a train.

Little Remains by nilead 2017-05-08T23:46:05Z

I loved the art style, especially the abstractness in the backgrounds. The music really complemented nicely and really brought out the mood of the game.

Trying to do the scene transition to get the yellow pig was a bit finicky, but I managed. That was the only flaw I ran into in this otherwise good story.

I loved where it left off - leave the player to imagine their own ending.

Great job!

Caelium Alpha by jishenaz 2017-05-09T01:11:30Z

Good graphics for the stars and planets. I've not seen anything like this before. If you're not going for realism, then maybe expand this to allow some fantastic scenarios, like moons of moons, stars rotating around planets, etc. Great job!

Satellite Bash by Elemental Zeal Game Studios 2017-05-12T03:37:44Z

I loved it! Especially the upgrade unlock path, allowing you to get stronger each playthrough. The graphics were good, too. Great job!

Interstellar Botanist by saiodin 2017-05-02T17:49:34Z

The voice acting for the AI was hilarious! Nice, clean graphics an UI, great job!

Small World Sim by pyokoanarogue 2017-05-09T02:55:37Z

This was pretty fun. I liked the way that the planet scrolled, and everything seemed fairly well balanced. For some reason I couldn't hit the goal of dropping funds below $20, even though I spent below that several times, so I got stuck there. Overall, nice job!

Antagonistic : Hamburger Hill by ryte2byte 2017-05-07T12:49:57Z

This was quite fun and enjoyable. I tend to agree about the other comments regarding the aiming of the acid attack - at the very least it would be good to have some indication of a hit or miss. I'm not sure that making it an AOE as suggested is the right solution, as that would increase friendly-fire damage significantly. Also I found it difficult to judge at times whether a lone large beetle in the field was the 4-hit kind or the 10-hit kind, so maybe some other distinction like markings on the shell would be good.

The graphics were good, and the sounds were entertaining, and the gameplay was engaging.

My winning strategy: I managed to take 95% of the burger with about a 60%-40% mix of warriors and workers early, moving to more like 75%-25% later in the skirmish. My mounds were stationed radially around the burger, with the earliest ones built closest to the workers' path. My thought behind this was the quicker I could get the burger out of there, the less my overall defense would cost. I took care of all of the early targets myself, but then trusted my warriors to handle the light work that started to get through later while I concentrated my fire on the easier-to-hit big targets and larger groups, providing air support to warriors when those targets were down. Only one beetle got through to the burger as far as I saw.

Solar Smash by blacksheepza 2017-05-01T23:38:41Z

I really like the physics, and how things can break apart and cause chain reactions. Well done!

World Conqueror: Rule the Seas by MCjammydodger 2017-05-09T17:23:44Z

This game was a lot of fun. The sound effects were very old-school, and I liked the way that the islands covered each other, forcing me to find a weak point to attack. Great job!

Dwelling by aeveis 2017-05-03T16:02:40Z

Pretty cute little game with interesting, evolving puzzle mechanics. Good job!

The World Repeats by GameQuester 2017-05-11T02:34:09Z

Very creative use of the theme - I really like how the small world renews a little with each cycle through. Great job!

Small World Collider by tylerraz 2017-05-05T01:27:59Z

A unique and very enjoyable take on the classic breakout game with battling the AI paddles and the different planet mechanics. Great job!

D4RK and the Small Worlds by abhimonk 2017-05-01T23:55:02Z

I was able to hang until the elevator... Couldn't find all of the button mappings on the 360 controller so had to use the keyboard. Overall, though, good job.

50ft by 50ft (or How I Died In Space) by RockhopperGames 2017-05-08T16:25:27Z

This was a pretty good use of the theme. Overall, I enjoyed the story, and played through multiple times in order to see some of the different arcs/events/subplots. Great job!

Jelly Germ by Ethereal Psyche Games 2017-05-04T16:57:07Z

Really good graphics, and great use of the theme. I too had some difficulty with getting hung up on floors and walls at times, but it was nothing that prevented me from completing the levels presented. Great job!

A Game with Bees by x1212 2017-05-07T13:46:44Z

It took a few tries to figure this one out. For those having trouble:

- Start out assigning the max # of bees to the gathering (middle) task. Don't assign anyone to the other tasks just yet, they'll just eat up all the food you're producing and starve. - Unassigned bees and bees assigned to gathering do not consume food. This is very important for managing your food supply. - Once you have a good supply of food (a few dozen), assign one bee to the feed (left) task. - Upgrade your gathering and keep assigning bees there. Always keep upgrading this and keep the max # of bees assigned there. - Assign bees to feed (and upgrade as necessary) as you start to notice that you are building a surplus of food. - In bad weather, you may need to cut your feed assignment by up to half to cope with the decreased production of food. - If you follow these steps, you will soon have more bees than you know what to do with. - You only need to worry about guards when there are wasps in the forecast. Since guards consume food, it is best to leave this empty at all other times. I didn't even need to upgrade my guard station. - When the wasps are coming, just assign wasp level +1 bees to the guard (right) task.

Once I got the hang of this, it was actually pretty fun. Some suggestions: - Have the wasp attacks start occurring far earlier . As noted above, I barely ever needed guards. - Give the player a reason to keep a standing army of guards. Maybe make experienced guards be more effective somehow. - Since feeding is upgraded less often than gathering, it should cost more so that the cost of leveling it does not become trivial. - Let the player continue playing after winning

Sandelipe Boxenan by MestreRothLD 2017-05-09T23:38:52Z

What a fun and unique game. The audio was especially well done, and the graphics were good too. Not sure if there is any difference gameplay-wise between being eaten and lair escape - both seemed to reduce my population.

The first time was apparently the charm - got 46 on my first play, didn't break 40 after that. Beginner's luck.

Little Unsuitable Journey by Lukuluk 2017-05-03T00:15:03Z

This was a lot of fun if not a little punishing at times - very glad there was a checkpoint system! At one point I found a strange object up in the air near the end, but couldn't figure out how to do anything with it. Overall, great job!

Ninja-Vu by doomshmuck 2017-05-05T11:10:52Z

This is a nice little adventure with a good sense of humor and groovy music. It caught me off guard for a moment that the enemies could see through walls, but once I figured that out I was able to cope. Good job!

High Society Poking Enthusiasts by Dev Dennis 2017-05-06T13:00:33Z

I took a poke at this game and found it to have a very humorous concept executed with great graphics and sound effects. I did feel a bit bad about the fish that I poked dying in a bloody explosion - poking should be a non-lethal sport IMO. At least the rare kingfish survived the poking. Overall, great job!

House 0.1.0(top down shooter) by thelonelynug 2017-05-10T16:36:17Z

This is a good start, with decent graphics. I did manage to clear the house, but only after several attempts due to bugs - both the aforementioned ones, and two others that don't seem to be listed here yet:

- Sometimes the enemies can walk through walls, especially diagonal ones but sometimes horizontal/vertical ones too. - When going outside, there is a lag spike that can often be fatal.

Good job for your first LD!

It's a Small World by NedMakesGames 2017-05-12T03:18:26Z

I had fun with this, though I will admit that I really could only manage to remember 3 of the jump mechanics. Maybe if there was a way to introduce the more advanced ones over time in-game? The graphics were good, and the background music was very catchy. Nice game!

A Mind Is A Small Place by Juju Adams 2017-05-12T02:59:00Z

The art style with the dithered graphics was rather interesting, and worked for such an abstract, surreal experience. The audio was well done, and the overall mood of the game is spectacular.

I managed to play through to both endings - it is a really subtle choice that makes the difference, and easily missed.

Overall, great job.

Advanced Mitosis by Endurion 2017-05-08T17:46:09Z

Good job overall on the puzzle design. There were a couple of nice surprises in this one - I especially liked the level where you had to make the enemies eat the food in order to win. The last level seemed more like luck, though. I hope you take this one further, I think there would be nearly endless possibilities for puzzles for this one.

Gate Breaker by GrassWhopper 2017-05-05T10:38:59Z

It was a fun little five-minute quest, though I agree with the others that it was a little too easy. Even when I was swarmed and taking a ton of hits, it seemed like my health was barely going down. Good job on the pixel graphics and pixel explosions.

Bamboo Life by candlesan 2017-05-06T03:46:16Z

This is a great entry. The graphics are excellent, and the gameplay is excellent. Toward the end, I was thinking, "what's next, a monkey to run around and pick up the soil for me?" This game should definitely go further.

Missing Lands by potatolain 2017-05-09T16:34:02Z

Making something for the NES in 48 hours that is actually playable is no small feat. I thought the level difficulty scaled fairly well, and the graphics and sound were decent for a NES game. In some of the later levels I felt that there was maybe a little too much backtracking. Overall, great job!

Escape from Sytlanta by Gundatsch 2017-05-05T16:56:15Z

It may be difficult, but it is very pretty, and the music gives an excellent mood to the game - you can feel the impending doom of the island sinking. Nice job!

Blocknauts! by EndlessPlumber 2017-05-06T02:19:15Z

The graphics are well done, and it is really good use of the theme. I thought I got all of the parts, but nothing seemed to happen, not even the musical effect others have alluded to - there was no visible wireframe left on the ship so I'm not sure what I could have missed. Overall this was a solid entry.

SlapR by MewSoul 2017-05-09T23:50:36Z

Good job on a fun, quick little game. The graphics fit well, and the slapstick aspect with the penguins flying off after being hit is well done.

I was wondering if there was anything to the two penguins that were just chilling at the top of the screen... Maybe I didn't get far enough to see that?

I only experienced the issue with flying up into the air once... and it worked out to my advantage because I was able to land back on the ice and not in the ocean.

Planet Bash by killerkun 2017-05-09T11:18:48Z

This was pretty awesome. The metal soundtrack really highlighted the mood, and everything seemed pretty well balanced. Great job!

Leucos by Harry Alissavakis 2017-05-08T11:27:12Z

I had quite a bit of fun with this. The graphics were good, I liked the brightly colored enemies. It really made them easy to distinguish. I wasn't a huge fan of the recoil from the laser on such thin catwalks, but it didn't prevent me from enjoying the game. Great job!

Kanjo by Kataware 2017-05-10T17:01:27Z

The sound and the storytelling were both very good. Yes, it had to take some abrupt turns, but that is to be expected with a 48 hour effort. Great job, and I hope you expand this further and fill in the middle chapters!

Place Them All by Yami no tenshi 8 2017-05-12T02:21:16Z

What a great and simple game! Would love to see an expanded version of this, maybe with more tribes to randomize from than spaces on the planet, in order to generate more possible unique games. The graphics were good, and the animations and actions were very well done.

Spermicorn by Fanu 2017-05-08T11:17:19Z

This is hands-down the most humorous entry I've played so far. The gameplay is basic, but it works to move the story. The only real issue I had was on the second stage - if you don't stop mashing keys right away when it changes, you can blow right past the next any-key cue and the cue after that even.

The graphics were cute and well done, and the audio complemented the game well. Great job!

Set Sails by Erik Brunnstrom 2017-05-03T16:57:05Z

So much fun to see your gold pile up. Excellent use of the theme, too. The view out the window, the ambient sound, everything was so well done. Great job!

Shrimp Tank by slash_random 2017-05-07T18:16:33Z

I really liked the multi-tracked music, and how it changed as you moved up. I was hoping that I would eventually get big enough to not be eaten by the fish, and then could swim higher to find even more scary fish. Oh well, at least all of my spawn are safe. Great job!

Headspace by fueelin 2017-05-10T17:38:51Z

This was a very strange experience. The art style was good, and the music was good, and both together definitely set a mood. Beyond that I'm not really sure what was happening, though.

Entropy by SleepyStudios 2017-05-11T01:51:04Z

Simple and fun, pretty well balanced. When I was on, it seemed like a perpetual struggle - field of green one minute, field of red the next, back to green the next minute. Kind of like the weather around here. Impressive to see a good multiplayer game made in such a such a short amount of time. Great job!

Life of an Ant by Connor McGrory 2017-05-06T03:04:57Z

Fun story, with a good soundtrack to accompany it. Nice twist at the end, too. During the workday sequences I couldn't understand why I kept slowing down, but all of the other ants were still moving the same speed, but that was pretty minor and never lasted long before moving on to the next sequence. Great job!

The Deific's Guide to Creating, Exploiting, and Destroying Pocket Worlds by Smiling Cat Entertainment 2017-05-06T16:10:33Z

Thanks for all of the great feedback so far. I do agree that the game needs a lot more balancing, tweaking, and polishing, and based on what I am hearing here I may consider moving forward with this game once my current project completes.

I wanted to have the aether repeat when the edge is reached, which would resolve some of the issues with getting too far away from the center, but I ran out of time to implement that.

Based on my limited knowledge of Wine and Linux, I would guess that the text rendering problems are due to the Arial font not being installed. I just have too little experience in Linux to confidently support a Linux build of the game.

As for performance, I tried this out on my 5-year-old laptop (that has an old Nvidia mobile chipset) and it seems to perform well, at least in the earlier stages of the game. The game probably at least needs a dedicated GPU; integrated graphics don't cut it for much that I create these days.

Since the guide is not available in-game after viewing the first time (another thing I would have liked to have implemented if I had more time), I added a reference poster above showing all of the element creation possibilities.

Stop CO2 by cremmy 2017-05-02T17:14:38Z

Very nice! Takes a minute to get used to the resource mechanics, but after that I was able to make it a few rounds in. I couldn't find a way to get more workers, tho, maybe that was intentional.

Something Something by sgstair 2017-05-11T11:02:30Z

It's a good start - I'd suggest rather than having the players micromanage each worker's task, that you just right click on the resource and an unoccupied worker comes to harvest.

Be Like Bee by athomicus 2017-05-05T16:44:49Z

The minimap worked really well to find the flowers - not a feature you usually see in a jam game, so well done. I thought I was doing pretty good, but I let my hive down. Definitely agree with others that there should be some feedback when the player getting ready to lose.

Every Man's Sky by blaster391 2017-05-07T21:17:30Z

This has the promise to be a really interesting creative space. If you were to take this further, it would be nice to:

- Edit, move, or remove your own planets - Show an alignment grid when placing planets - Give the planets more personality/variety - even possibly to the point of the absurd (like being able to create a planet with a beard and tophat and name it Abraham Lincoln)

I spent a good while in this, great job!

Ant Clicker - Ready for your reviews!!! by AndyNice 2017-05-10T11:28:53Z

What a beautiful entry. The graphics are outstanding, and the ambient audio is great, too. The gameplay is pretty decent for a 72-hour clicker, I think the numbers might need a little bit of balancing because I am well beyond getting the last anthill upgrade, but it is still far more efficient to farm acorns/apples than mushrooms and pumpkins. Overall, great job!

Flat World by rpmoura 2017-05-08T03:25:35Z

Nice graphics with good, simple animations and a good concept for the game. I found the controls a bit awkward, though, and wound up having to group both of my hands on the left side of the keyboard in order to play effectively. Maybe using W/S for P1 pickup/push, and up/down arrow for P2 pickup/push might be better. That way, each player should be able to effectively play one-handed.

Overall, great job.

Meteor Mania by Selgeron 2017-05-09T03:09:28Z

This was a fun game with lots of interesting powerups, and good graphics. Sometimes I felt some of the asteroids were unreachable (other side of the planet, moving fast, plus more limited visual range along the X/Y axis than in the diagonals). Overall, though, excellent work.

Tiny Venture by faemir 2017-05-04T02:29:23Z

Great use of the theme. The BGM really helps the survival mood. I think there should be some way to eat what is in your hand; I ultimately died by accidentally harvesting when I should have eaten. Overall, great job!

Tiny Terraformer by Wheffle 2017-05-09T00:41:32Z

This was a lot of fun. The tutorial was excellent and made me feel competent with the mechanics right away, something that does not happen often with LD games. There were a lot of nice touches, such as seeing lakes/oceans appear, the atmosphere thickening, and so forth. Great job!

Smallverse by Spiteful Fox 2017-05-06T11:34:26Z

The world descriptions were very entertaining, and I found myself compulsed to play through several times to try to get different types of outcomes. Nice job!

ARR World by Simon Rahnasto 2017-05-05T03:06:16Z

This was really fun! The music, graphics, gameplay were all well done. Eventually I got powerful enough that all my raiders had to do was glare at the Spanish Armada and it sunk. Excellent job!

Let's Be Happy in Our Small World by Tuomo 2017-05-07T18:03:24Z

I'm not sure if it was intentional or dumb luck, but I kept getting near-twins trying to frame eachother, which was pretty funny. "No, Clyde, you were the one wearing blue shorts when you poked the cat. Your doppleganger Frank was wearing black pants."

Overall, good job. The graphics were well-drawn, and the music selection complemented everything nicely.

Little Scout by Tex Killer 2017-05-05T11:18:58Z

They always say leave them wanting more... I really enjoyed this despite its short duration. I wish there was more to play!

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Heart of the Cards by Neon 2018-04-23T12:51:03Z

Very nice. I liked the "ammo is your life" concept. It really made me focus on being ammo-efficient on my second playthrough, and I beat it with 29 cards remaining.

Trying to use the doorways for cover didn't work very well for me - I'd keep ending up just flubbing my cards into the doorframe when trying to shoot through the doorway. I think it's because the cards seem to originate from the right side of the player when thrown. It turned out to not be a necessary strategy, though.

Rose-Coloured Dungeon Life by Junber 2018-04-29T16:58:56Z

Great story! Like others, I eventually had to give up on avoiding damage in combat. Liked the graphics and sound as well. Great job!

Ballermann III: The Expendabuilds by xoidberg 2018-04-29T13:55:38Z

Interesting take on a Tetris/block puzzle game. I liked the graphics and the sound especially. Great job!

Matching Towers by sky_fighter 2018-04-23T14:12:11Z

Interestingly, I think the addition of the match 3 mechanic to earn towers actually solves one of the long-standing problems of many tower defense games, where they can get a bit slow when waiting to earn money to buy towers. You might be on to something here. Great job!

Burger Barrage by muzuka 2018-05-03T23:16:08Z

I am also getting the "Failed to Load Mono" issue. Win10 64-bit. BurgerBurger.png

Get Out Of My Dungeon by biobazard 2018-05-05T16:01:20Z

This was really fun to play. Good incorporation of the theme, and good challenge as well. Very well executed.

Hyper Drift Mayor by DiFFtY 2018-05-03T23:30:47Z

This was fun to play, good concept, well-drawn graphics. It would be nice if there was some kind of balance indicator around the player sprite, rather than needing to take eyes off the road to check the top of the screen all of the time. Great job!

Boring RPG by Number6406 2018-04-29T13:34:09Z

This is a pretty good start. It would be nice to know exactly what the stats/upgrades do. So far I found the fairly obvious that strength increases damage and dexterity decreases time between auto attacks. Nice job!

Drive Threw by Zachary Burkett 2018-05-09T01:31:57Z

The customers looked so desperate when I came up to them - like they had been walking along the highway for days and I was saving them from certain starvation!

Great use of the theme. I felt everything was pretty intuitive to handle, and this was definitely an interesting and innovative mashup of genres. Great job!

Roll Playing Game by Smiling Cat Entertainment 2018-04-23T13:14:21Z

Thanks, all, for the great feedback so far.

@ROBOWARRIOR1982 Boost (Dash) is in there, it can be captured from Sky or Time types. I agree on the level design, it was a bit rushed since I spent so much time on the combat.

Roll Playing Game by Smiling Cat Entertainment 2018-05-03T23:06:04Z

Thanks for the latest batch of feedback, folks!

@alans-antics A toggle for the capture mode is a good idea, as is the auto-targeting. Sorry for the hardcore mode. As for combat, the sword does not need to hit; the hit just needs to be at a high enough relative velocity, and not be too high a level enemy to get above zero on the damage calculation.

@dovakla Some gold bars (I think 8) can be found in the world, and they also drop from the money types from defeating (not capturing) them.

Idle Escape Room by gimbalock 2018-05-04T00:10:16Z

Great use of the theme. This was really fun to play. I liked the addition of the puzzles every so often to keep things fresh. I managed with a time of 7:29. Great job!

Beat The Narrator! by CursedEmbassy 2018-05-06T11:20:46Z

Liked the hand-drawn visuals. Too bad technical issues interfered with the completion of this, I would have liked to have played further. Nice job!

BreakOut Typing by Schuster 2018-04-29T14:12:05Z

It is an interesting concept, and a great use of the theme. I agree with what others have said about the controls - this really becomes more of a game of timing when to hit Enter to properly intercept the ball. Oveall, though, nice job!

Billard Dungeon by DoctorAlpaca 2018-05-11T00:25:44Z

This was a lot of fun, very well executed and excellent use of the theme, though it did get quite difficult toward the end. Great job!

A Nightmare on the Canned Goods Aisle by Tudvari 2018-04-23T11:31:58Z

It's a pretty fun game, I liked the artwork on the products especially and the incongruent reactions of the manager.

I wasn't quite sure what happened at the end - I didn't run out of money or anything, but suddenly the whole store went dark and lights could no longer be repaired - then, black screen and exit screen.

If royalty-free, unlicensed assets, or assets you didn't create during the 48 hours was used to make this game (such as the music), under the rules it should really be marked as a Jam game and not a Compo game.

Zombie Golf by RahmKota3 2018-05-05T15:50:22Z

Pretty awesome, and pretty hard. The music was good for the game, had a quality to it like the music from the classic Doom games. Great job!

Patrick's Shoot Towers Pew Pew! by PatrickRMC 2018-04-23T12:33:15Z

I like the concept for the game, driving between sites to build towers. I really like that the vehicle itself is like a mobile tower, able to be deployed where needed until funds are available to build.

I hope you take this concept further and scale up the difficulty - I was looking forward to seeing how the advancing waves would tax my towers, but I found that a single tower sufficed to last to at least wave 25.

Gun Hero by soloinabox 2018-04-23T11:41:25Z

Nice, beautiful, glowy yet simple graphics, and great audio! It's a great take on the theme, as well. The only difficulty I ran into is that I found it very difficult to aim - some sort of sighting/scoping would have been nice. Great job!

BattleFarm: Bullet Season by Crimson 2018-05-05T15:35:33Z

Very fun, good use of the theme, and very nice graphics. The target area for planting was not quite where I intuitively expected it to be (at the character's feet), but I got the hang of it. Great job!

MotherDucker by ecmjohnson 2018-05-06T10:52:47Z

This was very awesome, very fun to play. Excellent music, I especially loved the processed "quack" samples that were part of the music. Nice, clean graphical style to boot, and well implemented. The only small issue I encountered was that I wish I had a bit more feedback (a louder sound or something) when a duckling is lost. Right now there seems to be a small "pop" sound that can't always be heard above the music. Great job!

Tower Defense Dating Simulator by Killian 2018-04-23T13:59:51Z

Great graphics, and an awesome mashup of genres. Are there any clues besides trial and error for discovering the right gifts? My first play, it seemed to be based on the color of the tower's dress accessories, but this didn't seem to hold up in my second play.

Survival Racing - LD41 by Aszu 2018-05-03T23:44:05Z

Really fun to play, great use of the theme. Like the others, I did find, though, that having a good route was of more value than stopping to craft. After a couple of playthroughs, I found that I could win simply by pathing better than the AI, which removed a lot of motivation to craft. Overall, great job!

Obelisk by SgtCoDFish 2018-04-29T14:05:23Z

Very fun to play, an interesting take on tower defense. It was a bit tough at first because like @YinYin , I was drawing all upgrades at first. One idea to address this is to make the cards dual-purpose, i.e. either they can place a new tower OR upgrade an existing one. Great job!

Crazy Race by Joton Ferreira 2018-04-23T14:23:17Z

Thanks for the rating, I'm happy to play and rate your game. It was a lot of fun, at time the questions were a bit hard to understand, but I managed, and won the race! Good combination of genres that you wouldn't think would work together. Nice job!

Crazy Race by Joton Ferreira 2018-04-23T23:29:23Z

Thank you for looking into and taking steps to correct the issue with the malware. I am sure it was not intentional and that you were as mortified as I was about it. I have not directly verified, but I hope everything is clean now.

Farmer's Delight: A Twin-Stalk Shooter by Dovakla 2018-04-29T12:49:17Z

Wow. This was really cool and held my attention for quite a while, until over 1000 mobs beset me with massive lag. I felt that the shotgun should have come before the flamethrower, as the flamethrower seems best against the largest crowds. Great job!

Gimgumho by EPIIC - LesGougnafiers 2018-05-04T01:04:39Z

This was an interesting concept for a game, good use of the theme. The graphics were excellent! I did run across a couple of bugs that caused me to have to restart a few times. The main one was that I found I could not use the left/right trigger shoot commands without getting stuck. Good job, though, would really like to see this polished further.

Two finger bloody opera by Alen Loeb 2018-04-23T13:05:36Z

Very entertaining - the juxtaposition of the music and the bloodiness is amazing. Definitely high points for theme and mood.

Hell's Kitchen by Milo87 2018-05-04T00:42:05Z

Once you get used to the controls, it's pretty fun. I liked the names of the recipes and how they corresponded to the ingredients. Great job!
