LD38 — A Small World

Marco Polo by Nathan 2017-05-16T09:38:15Z

You created great atmosphere here, story sounds interesting (I tried couple of times and died really early on).

I have to agree earlier commenter that the action in point’n’click game isn’t the best possible solution and given the tiny amount of time you have to react (and find a hotspot on screen) doesn’t help. The marco-polo mechanic is cool. I didn’t get to use much as I died constantly.

Music and sound really make the mood. Voices are bit rough, but overall sounds are great.

Visuals have couple big flaws in them. Typography needs some serious rework, game with this much text (intro, instructions, in game messages) needs to have great legibility. Font you chose for the longer texts is nice, but doesn’t have the best readability. Longer texts should be always aligned or justified to left, centered text only for couple of sentences. Combination of green text on blue background is really awful color combination. The first screen of the actual gameplay is really confusing. I got lost outside constantly as point of view get changing between looking back and and forward. Compositions on most of the backgrounds need rethinking, clear focus on exits and important hotspots.

Although my feedback sounds really negative, I actually enjoyed playing this. With some work this could become really atmospheric and interesting title.

Stellar Twist by rojo 2017-05-18T12:39:16Z

Wonderful concept and I really enjoyed playing your game despite few flaws I found.

The puzzles themself work really well, but movement controls aren’t best (I played with controller). Character seems to slide too easily off things. Maybe you could consider 8-axis movement instead of full 360 degrees, that would make jumps easier.

Graphics mostly are well done, but few problems here too. Some textures like the ground really messed my depth perception, and made some jumps really hard. Also I feel like positioning the cube is bit too high on the screen, I had to constantly rotate the cube to see where I was going. Also maybe add some ambient light (or make shadows lighter) so the shadows would not be so dark. I really liked the idea in main menu, but some texts are too small.

Sounds are ok, didn’t really notice them. I am glad there is pick up sound for stardust, otherwise finding it in the bushes would be really annoying.

Altogether nicely executed fun game with potential to become something really great with few adjustments. Great job!

Hexworld by Myko 2017-05-16T19:02:43Z

Really nice entry! I loved the board game likeness. I played the single player one, I think I’ll try playing this with friends too someday. Graphics are really nice, but sounds are bit repetitive.

Daffodil Village by Hjalte 2017-05-16T16:01:47Z

Interesting take on the theme! I wish there was more variation to the dialogue, almost gave up playing this because people get saying same things over and over again. Art style is fittingly cute. Maybe change the dialogue option boxes background color something different than ground color. They get bit lost. Overall interesting game, good job!

Humanity Simulator by RabbitTortoise 2017-05-14T13:14:10Z

Great and interesting idea but I feel execution needs bit more work. At first gameplay feels fun but becomes quickly repetitive. Driving around collecting money doesn’t really give feeling that I’m polluting the world. And money just seems pop out everywhere with no reasons or explanation. Visuals are well done, maybe bit dark at places. Overall good job, idea is there, execution needs some rethinking.

Too Small For Us by Gulyasarni66 2017-05-15T17:23:40Z

Space travel was done well, but scale on the planet seemed odd and it was hard to tell distance from the surface. Visuals are nice and simple, lack of sound breaks immersion as commented earlier. Tooltips are placed too close to center. Biggest problem for me was motivation and story. I had no idea who I was and why I was doing all this. I quit after refuel so I don’t know how it ends.

Heckin' Ants by Thirsty 2017-05-07T15:22:23Z

Despite the couple of glitches (not able jump sometimes while running, and some flickering graphics) I enjoyed playing this. Congrats on getting it done in 24 hours!

Snoozle Pooz by mathijs750 2017-05-12T20:04:21Z

Cannot resist game with kitty, must play! This game is so cute! Cat is modeled and animated really well, other assets aren’t at same level, but given the time limit, great job. Sounds are cleverly done really add to the overall catness. Only lacking part is the gameplay: not much to do here. Even with just simple timer or something like that this could have become more game like. Still overall an endearing experience!

Cathode Way by garethiw 2017-05-07T17:10:05Z

I was bit skeptical when I first saw your game, as I thought it was just a clone of The Witness. But you truly won me over. Very well done! Mechanics are different enough to make it feel original. Atmosphere and music helped in that too. Graphics felt bit unfinished (or placeholder like), but this is of course understandable given the short amount of time, team size, and HUGE scope you had.

I also encountered a couple of bugs where I would get stuck after exiting a monitor. First this happened with the first monitor and after that with monitor on top of the tower.

Age of Utan by Yetikatt 2017-05-01T10:52:57Z

Really enjoyable game. Gorgeous visuals, nice sounds and overall atmospheric game.

It's A Small World by danman9914 2017-05-13T10:43:14Z

Amazing game! Interesting take on the theme. First I felt bit like I was playing Animal Crossing but you foreshadowed in a great way the coming events. Story really made the game, visuals and sounds supported story in a great way. Perfect!

The Morix Colony by Somnium 2017-05-07T17:47:11Z

Interesting game, but becomes quite repetitive after while. I didn’t feel my choices made much difference, apart from gambling with pirate attacks. Maybe if you could build and upgrade your colony at any time instead of waiting for right event to happen.

PRISMAZE by tozy 2017-05-05T10:44:28Z

Loved the neon/dayglow look! I didn’t really get what I was supposed to be doing, I found a way around the maze and all I got was “retry/back to menu” menu. Choosing retry glitched the menu.

it's (skull) business by daniel 2017-05-07T16:10:47Z

I’m confused. I think the game worked for me, but I didn’t really got what I was supposed to do. Picked up the phone, read the notes and started the spaceship. And after watching a while the ship fly about I got message that success was true. I guess I won?

Debug Defence by Epicruins195 2017-05-07T16:28:23Z

The first couple of levels felt really easy, difficulty ramped really quick after the game introduced snails that explode into other bugs. Just a little bug (not pun): towers were drawn over win/fail message for me. Despite that very well done game!

Group Traffic Control by comatomatoes 2017-05-05T10:59:39Z

Interesting concept, though I don’t think there was anyone else playing while I tested it. I really liked the simplistic visuals, they worked well for the game.

Pineshore Planet by thomz12 2017-05-12T13:14:35Z

You have created such wonderful little world. I really loved all the little animations that made the world feel alive. Music and especially the zoom out music were perfect. Gameplay was intuitive although I sometimes misclicked characters from from edge of the world while trying to rotate the planet.

Shapeshifter: The King of A Small World by Rixud 2017-05-12T18:41:11Z

Your game reminded me those 3d platformers I used play in 90’s. Few suggestions: terrain is mostly green, maybe use some color or model assets to guide player more. It can be subtle like in level 2(?) you see a tiny passage, and shortly after get the ant form to pass through. Jumping with the grasshopper was bit buggy and broke the game for me as wasn’t able to jump again after a failed jump attempt. Shapeshifting is an interesting mechanic.

o, the game by pta2002 2017-05-16T15:41:27Z

Cool minimalistic visuals! Altogether polished and fun little game. Only little complaint is that while standing still it’s impossible to tell in which direction the “bullet” is going to go.

Sunny World by Jungle 2017-05-15T17:50:20Z

Nice little game and really skillfully executed. My only complaint is the icons that indicate the different functions on planet, took me couple of tries before I realized what they meant. As suggestion maybe add some more animations, currently it doesn’t feel like there is life on the planet. Something like little people going around and tiny cows grazing the meadows. Overall great job!

Astromike by mikea 2017-05-12T11:12:52Z

Your gorgeous visuals and amazing sound design makes Astromike super atmospheric and polished game.

My only complaints/suggestions are about the design. Camera feels from start to be sometimes in “wrong place”. Character is positioned oddly on screen, too near on edge. Is it necessary to move camera every time player moves, this makes playing really jerky.

I see the strong inspiration you had from the Go trilogy. Maybe your game would have benefited staying true the original controls as the action part doesn’t really give anything new to the game, and takes away lot of the puzzleness the Go games have.

The World Outside by bacontree 2017-05-12T12:25:50Z

I fell in love with the character style, it felt almost like something out of stop motion animation. Character animations are alright, but maybe add some more “punch” to punch. The world felt really empty and theme being “a small world” i didn’t really get that from the game (or the parts I got to see before the ninjas annihilated me). I can’t think of anything about the gameplay that hasn’t said already by other commenters. Overall I think there is lot of good in this game, it just needs a lot of rethinking and polishing. The endearing character style is what really sets this apart from others.

Planets of Zoltcon by terryg 2017-05-16T15:04:26Z

I love your art style on character and planets, UI graphics don’t really match rest. Your planet shrinking mechanic is really unique and interesting take on the theme. Gravity felt bit buggy. Altogether interesting concept and nice game!

Jar of Life by hunttis 2017-05-18T13:00:13Z

Cool little game! Graphics are nice most part. Have you tried other fonts instead of current? I’m not sure how well it fits the sort of ornamental and pretty style you got. Gameplay is simple, not much to do except just observe and occasionally place new herbivores. One thing I found odd is that amount nutrients going constantly down, in closed biosphere that probably shouldn’t happen. I guess you used it as a timer. On one of my playthroughs the carnivore just ignored herbivores and hang on one of the flowers until his health depleted. Background music really adds to the atmosphere.

DUCKTRON by neontropics 2017-05-16T16:29:13Z

While this is really funny and quite addicting game, I was left missing some kind feedback from getting hit by the other ducks. And I kept constantly skipping the game over screen as I was furiously pressing x.

Honey Home by dvdfu 2017-05-18T14:07:49Z

What a beautiful and atmospheric game, and also same time fun to play! I really loved the visuals, only complaint is that you could have made a background with similar pixel style instead of the blurred one. It kinda sticks out now as other assets don’t even have anti aliasing. The music is superb. So is the gameplay and controls. Could be fun if you got some kind of statistics screen in the end telling how many bees you collected and how many died during the trip etc. Overall amazing job!

The Microns by Rodrigo Denúbila 2017-05-16T17:36:55Z

Oh my god I’m so stressed out after playing this! Poor microns, I’ll remember you next time I microwave some popcorn. I liked the game on most parts, except for the tank controls. I just couldn’t get the little guys to go where I wanted them to go. Hope that was intentional:)

The Cockroach Lessons by Ibispi 2017-05-05T15:38:11Z

Lose condition is bit sudden, maybe some sorts game over screen or even simple message would have made it more clear. I liked visuals and animations on the cockroach.

Small Whirled by PTSnoop 2017-05-15T17:34:14Z

Wow, you did all this in one day! I love the graphics, clean and simple. Particles are bit confusing as someone already mentioned. I’m not sure I really got the controls, most of times I managed to escape just whacking up key until I got out. Altogether awesome entry!

Small Obstacles by digitaldude555 2017-05-14T12:38:53Z

Overall your game is really enjoyable. I wish you had made the puzzles bit harder. All the elements for interesting puzzle design are there but levels are tad too straightforward. I have to agree other commenters that mouse clicking wasn’t most intuitive control for elevator. More polish and level design and you have great game!

Pie Planet : Octopus flavour by Bomb-X 2017-05-15T17:00:53Z

Great concept and very well done execution! Just couple of minor flaws: In start you are told what to do, so I assumed that I am prompted when I have collected enough resources. Took me while to realize that I had click on buttons to open new options. UI graphics are bit messy, they could use little bit simplifying and cleaning. And maybe font size could bit bigger. Overall an interesting and quite challenging game!

Three of you. by BitOfGold 2017-05-14T13:41:49Z

You did awesome job with the visuals. Just few minor flaws there: characters sometimes would “vibrate” like they had some sort seizure and day/night cycle was really short and with flashes you get with collecting something it felt like screen was constantly flashing.

Gameplay is bit lacking, to be honest not very fun. I managed collect all the needed crystals but it didn’t feel an achievement, I just thoroughly scouted the whole island. Game name implies that there is some sort meaning to there being three characters but other two didn’t do much but annoy me. Maybe if they would collect nearby resources, that could make them more meaningful.

I think there is potential here. Game just need some more mechanics or design rethink. I love the characters, they are really cute:) And character style is awesome!

Infecteria by LiquidBrain 2017-05-05T16:55:34Z

I’m going give feedback more on the visual side, hope you find these comments useful. Overall very well done art. These are the things you might want give some thought:

That filter you used on the logo, other text, text frame edges (like photoshop crystallize filter), i find it bit obvious.

Those cell organelles look bit random (and maybe small?), maybe reference some scientific illustrations or microscopic images on them (if you haven’t).

And biggest complaint: typography, there are at least 4 different fonts used. And they don’t necessarily work well together. Less is more in typography and legibility is most important factor when choosing fonts. Tutorial screen is really busy and there isn’t much space around text. I even had some text clipping going on right side of the screen. Also maybe check font sizes, that text is huge.

Supernova by Veralos 2017-05-15T16:41:58Z

Super cool and polished game! This kinda reminded me of c64 games, visuals made out from basic colors, simple mechanics and super hardcore difficulty. Expect in those games you wouldn’t have unlimited lives. Awesome job!

Dung Beetle by Louspirit 2017-05-07T18:43:20Z

Nice game! Atmosphere is great and fun gameplay despite little clunkiness in controls. The flybys in every level are great touch! Just some nitpicking: Dung ball felt almost lightweight, like a ping pong ball or something like that. As mentioned earlier animations could use some work, the beetle’s walk is slow compared to the movement speed and it looks like it is gliding when moving. Art looks bit mismatched (some assets are more realistic some more cartoony).

Superbugs by Breadmower 2017-05-07T15:11:09Z

I solved all the puzzles (and got Nobel prize), and was left with a need solve more. Very fun and addicting game!

A Mind Is A Small Place by Juju Adams 2017-05-16T15:28:39Z

This game is a masterpiece. I love everything about, psychedelic visuals (that dither effect is awesome), really moody sounds, simple but effective gameplay. Story is perfectly told through symbols and metaphors. I don’t think I got the alternate ending, maybe I’ll go back and play this again. Amazing job!

Naughty Gnomes by gurkenlabs 2017-05-16T17:14:51Z

Though I really liked this there was few things could use some rethinking. Overall busyness in game screen, there is some much going on. Maybe zoom in on the actual gameplay area. Also while most of graphics are in low res pixel art style, some aren’t (like fonts). This really stands out and breaks the coherence. Gameplay itself is pretty solid. Overall great job!

Wood Womb by sheep42 2017-05-17T19:00:10Z

Wow, that’s one powerful kitty. Stuff just flew around when I scratched it. Overall I had fun, graphics are well done, sounds maybe bit bland. One suggestion: maybe develope more the relationship with the human and the cat. I literally threw stuff at him and he didn’t even react. That could possibly add more depth to the story too.

"Comme le monde est petit ! " Smalltalk Supermarket by dray 2017-05-12T14:07:30Z

Your game made me actually laugh! Really loved the kooky art style and lighthearted atmosphere. Gameplay was bit hard but suited well with the last minute shopping panic theme. Few little improvements you could consider: as said by earlier commenter camera was problematic, made me even bit ill while trying to navigate through the shop. And as you clearly yourselves have noticed some of the groceries weren’t that clear what they were (especially the bacon ;)). Maybe add some labels “canned goods”, “milk” and so on hanging from the ceiling, like in real supermarkets. Apart from some minor flaws this is really great game!

The Life Amoebic by Baby Dino Herd 2017-05-05T10:19:04Z

Really interesting game, and I could see this as educational tool for kids to learn about single cell organisms. Nicely done!

Eine Kleine Insektmusik by davidthelazar 2017-05-12T19:09:37Z

An interesting concept and nice to see a game that uses sound as part of the gameplay (or I assume that the hammers are following the song). With bit work and polishing this could become something really great. Some suggestions: Hammers are really tiny, with this cartoony style they could be much bigger. This would make more clear for player where they hit. Some colors are really saturated and could be toned down to make visuals easier on eyes. Also sticking with just one font would make style more coherent, main menu font size is tiny. I also agree with other commenters that this reminds me something out of looney tunes or some other classical cartoon, visual style could be taken more to that kind of direction.

The Space Explorer by UnidayStudio 2017-05-11T16:49:16Z

Thumbs up for the wonderful visuals. I can’t believe you made alone all those models and textures, and managed to make working game at same time. Truly amazing job!

Here is couple of little notes for improvement. Enemies would sometimes clip through each other and attack from same spot. After killing one I wasn’t able to attack the other one. Also hitting an enemy didn’t give any feedback upon hit, unless you constantly looked at health bar. It wasn’t always clear where I was supposed to go or what to do. Hotspots (or the red orb things) were bit small, I spent some time searching around the planet before finding next one.

But anyway overall amazing game! And made with Blender, I think this the first one I ever played.

Planet Taxi by Marin0104 2017-05-12T19:36:35Z

I like the idea but the gameplay felt unfinished and buggy. The lack of indication where to go as mentioned is a big minus. The graphics are nice but bit confusing at places. Sometimes it was really hard to tell if car could pass through some areas or not. And my taxi bugged out and I wasn’t able drive straight after that (this happened I think at the one of the planets poles). Also after colliding with a wall car would be just stuck there unless reversed away, which is bit unexpected behaviour. Overall with some gameplay tweaks and some graphical adjustments your game could become something really fun to play.

A Rat's Story by stupidpawn 2017-05-11T17:07:45Z

Fun little game! Poor rats, I was so bad at this so they kept dying all over the street. Tiny little nitpick about graphics: assets are in different resolutions which makes some sprites look really unfinished. Also some colors were really hard on eyes. Apart from that everything worked well and I enjoyed playing this.

Penguin Deliveries by Nomaki 2017-05-14T15:42:28Z

Awesome job! I love the super cool retro illustration styled graphics, music fits the mood perfectly. I am glad that you couldn’t damage the spaceship as I am awful at piloting in this game :) One little suggestion about visuals: Maybe make spaceship bit bigger or window and penguin bigger, in this size penguin becomes really unclear.

Miskro by ghodan 2017-05-18T13:25:29Z

Although I kinda like the stylized 3d graphics in your game, but the lack of sufficient contrast made my head hurt a little. You could have also added some indication on where you can walk and where not. Took me a while to realize that I actually could climb that really steep hill in the beginning. Teleport transitions are really sudden made me bit disoriented. I really liked your concept!

Acquaintances by RodrigoNietiedt 2017-05-17T18:39:50Z

I loved the simplicity of this game, but on the other hand not really sure I understood what I was supposed to be doing. I clicked the person I got first on all the levels and got response “ar-ar-ar-ar-are you crazy?” in the achievement/end(?) screen. Was that successful game? Second round I tried clicking on random people, that didn’t seem to do much but give achievement and sound. My point, if I have one, is that maybe flesh out game more and don’t build it around achievements. Sounds are the most interesting part of this, I loved the random phrases people said. Graphics are functional, but look rushed.

Armageddance by Annet 2017-05-12T11:57:38Z

This is one of the most original ideas I’ve stumbled upon while playing LD38 games. Super funny and and matching visuals! Only problem I found (as many others commenting) is that arrows don’t seem to follow the music in anyway, which is usually point of these kinds of games. And point where you are supposed hit the buttons is bit unclear. Nice job anyway!

The Ludum Show by ketchupcoke 2017-05-16T19:31:44Z

Nice short adventure game! Lot of good ideas here, but needs more work to be great. Graphics are okay, bit stiff. I’d recommend using bit more less saturated palette, it’s bit too bright. Especially those red flowers on green grass. That sewer scene was bit odd. How did I get there? Was the pond drained or something. The magnet and key puzzle was really obvious. Overall really functional game and your first entry, good job!

The Deific's Guide to Creating, Exploiting, and Destroying Pocket Worlds by Smiling Cat Entertainment 2017-05-12T18:23:38Z

My main concern with this game is that the learning curve is really steep at beginning. Player is presented so much information about the elements and worlds and everything so it becomes really confusing. Maybe it’s just me but I prefer seeing an example gameplay or something like that in games rather than reading a chapter of text. Maybe break down the tutorial into even smaller pieces and give player time to take information in.

Visuals in this game are interesting. One suggestion is toning down saturation on colors. Currently they are really bright (and hard on eyes).

Terra by TheShrug 2017-05-05T09:59:50Z

I didn’t manage to get through the third part of gameplay, even with multiple tries. Checkpoints would have helped as suggested by earlier commenter. Would have loved to see how the story ended. Usually I’m not big fan of lo-res pixel graphics in modern games put in your art style it worked. Substituting arial with more “blocky” typeface would made it even more coherent. Sounds and music fitted the game well. Overall great entry!

Norit by lebull 2017-05-07T15:54:54Z

Gameplay felt really polished. I didn’t realize at first that all the shops had different items to sell, the game made much more sense after I got that. Maybe different sprites (or colors) for each shop would have helped. Otherwise great job for first entry!

Every Man's Sky by blaster391 2017-05-13T10:06:40Z

This is not just game, this is art and a interesting social experiment. I am glad tested this quite late in voting period so people have had time to create lots a planets. Had fun exploring around space and finding creative ways people had used tools you’ve given them. Amazing job!

Planetary Infestation by IDidGame 2017-05-16T16:18:26Z

I’m glad that others thought this game was really hard, I was awful at it. Managed only to destroy one enemy before dying. Graphics are simple and effective, sounds okay, controls worked as expected. Overall a solid entry!

Landshift by undefinist 2017-05-12T10:37:49Z

I wish I understood better how the connecting system worked as this looks really fun to play. I got better score just randomly pressing buttons than actually trying play correctly. Placement of the tile and completing river/road is bit unclear or not communicated clearly enough. Visuals are really nice and work well for your game. Thumbs up!

Ps. I checked out your graphics updates in post jam version. Overall everything looks better but you might want rethink that awfully saturated background. It’s bit hard on eyes.

what's left by frostByte4k 2017-05-13T09:51:31Z

Here is some feedback for you, hope you find this useful. Great concept, but in order to be good game it needs more work. Controls in platformer need to be on point or they feel awkward, you did okay except for clinging to the blocks (unless that was intentional). Maybe give player couple seconds to adjust to controls before start shooting him. Visuals are functional, but feel rushed (well it’s Ludum Dare). Despite some flaws great first entry, thumbs up!

Ps. Add screenshots to your game page to get people’s attention better.

Talkies by Bernhard 2017-05-18T13:43:45Z

Great concept! I think the character sprites are bit too similar, or you could have higher resolution characters so the finer details would be more clear. Tutorial was nice touch but the text window was constantly in way so it became really annoying. Also sometimes characters thought bubble would go outside the screen and all I can do is wait for it to appear again. Title screen is really hard on eyes, all those colors and that jumping. Epilepsy warning:)

Secluded by nikkilak 2017-05-12T11:36:23Z

I love the minimalist style of your graphics. Only concern about the style is that I was confused sometimes who was talking. Maybe placing bubbles on different part of screen would make scenes with multiple characters more clear. Overall really interesting story based game!

Kill Boom (singleplayer + multiplayer) by Headlein 2017-05-12T13:40:36Z

Really liked the visual style (too bad you didn’t make graphics so I can’t praise you about them).

I have to agree with others that gameplay was bit too clunky for this sort action game. Aiming was really awkward, and it took me while to understand how it worked. Player character looked like he was floating in air. There was no feedback from getting hit, until it was game over. I didn’t really get how this game related to the theme “a small world”, world wasn’t that big and it was limited but that’s essentially the case in every game.

Overall there is potential in this. Would love to try the multiplayer with friends once the gameplay is more optimized.

Yet Another Godzilla Game by dcandle 2017-05-18T14:33:00Z

Cool, it’s a another Godzilla game (I worked on something similar in LD33, I think..)! Gameplay is fun, but lacks some kind of objective. Now it’s just random destruction while defending occasionally. Also the game crashed on me couple of times, could be the massive amount of debris created. Graphics are bit fuzzy, like I didn’t have my glasses on. I’m not sure if I like it.

Btw I have to point out that lizards don’t have nipples and belly button:)

Becky's very very Small and TOTALLY not mundane World by pmarincak 2017-05-13T10:20:43Z

This is perfect! Funny, witty, easy to learn and still challenging to play. One thing I missed was backspace in writing part, I am really good at typoing (and I’m not native english speaker). I’m not usually fan of low-res pixel art but you made it really well. Just little bit tweaking in colors so important parts would stand out more and GUI could more simpler and clearer. But this is just nitpicking, your game is perfect!

vijver by Celine Veltman 2017-05-16T16:42:28Z

Nice moody game, though I was left yearning to be able to interact with the world in some way. Even some meaningless interaction would have made this so much better. Graphics are absolutely beautiful, maybe little variation to stuff could make them even more perfect. Glad to hear that you are developing this further.

Thank you all for the really nice and wonderful feedback! I had blast making this game. I’m really happy you all liked the art and animations. I just wished I had more time make even more diversity in characters (some lower body option are too similar at moment).

As many of you have pointed out the need of some kind of tutorial or instruction in beginning. I guess the gameplay is so clear for me, it didn’t even cross my mind to add one.

Also due to randomness of this game there are cases where characters bunch up in front of “the incident” and pointing out right person becomes unfairly hard. Same random nature causes the slow build up before something happens. In worst case scenario the characters could just idle/jump/wave in place forever. Definitely something I would fix if I’m going work on this.

@stupidpawn Thank you for giving my game some much time and effort!

@davidthelazar There is a mechanic preventing identical characters. Game creates characters by randomizing their gender and skin tone and then picks randomly head, upper body and lower body from library for that gender/skin tone. After that they are given a “name” which is something like gender + skin color + head graphic name + upper body name + lower body name. That name is then compared to existing characters, if that one already exists process is repeated.

@ptsnoop I opt-out from audio category because music wasn’t by me (it’s royalty free piece from site mentioned in description) and I didn’t make any of the sound effects, just did minimal editing (like combining sounds and cropping).

@juju-adams Now that you mention it, it looks bit like you are sniping people out of rows. Makes it so much more grim.

@gurkenlabs My idea was to make transitions last bit too long so that your memory would start to fade. Makes choosing the right person bit harder.

Let's Be Happy in Our Small World by Tuomo 2017-05-19T07:24:32Z

@ketchupcoke Glad you liked my little silly game so much. Yes, there is a limit at 30 people and 6 possible events (4 different types) (if I remember correctly). After that game just generates the same level until you make a mistake.

@rodrigo-denubila @pascalman Thank you for nice comments!

@hunttis Did you play until there was more events than just the vase? After level 3 (I think?) cat event is introduced. There is total 4 different possible event types after you get to levels with 20 people. The last event which I don’t think anyone has mentioned yet (no one got that far I assume) is bit evil on game design side:) Interesting you mentioned mini game collections, games like Mario Party or Warioware were some of the inspirations for this game.

Tiny Explorer by rijnswand 2017-08-06T16:55:05Z

Great atmosphere and interesting concept. I loved the visuals and sounds, the way they created amazing mood. Only things I have to nitpick about are lack of texture on the ground, sometimes it was bit hard to tell whether buggy was moving or not (especially in dark). Also terrain felt really slippery which was bit odd. Altogether great job!

this must be the place by lycaon 2017-08-10T08:18:44Z

Interesting concept but execution wasn’t that interesting or fun to play. This game needs some gameplay element added to it. I don’t think that reading other players randomly selected strings of words is that engaging. Music really makes the mood. Biggest complaint about the visuals I have is about that cathodic screen flicker effect, it hurts eyes with those bright colours.

tropix 🌴 by cakeknuckles 2017-08-17T08:34:03Z

I got as many likes on pictures as I get in real life :) I too would like have some information why some pictures get more likes than others. At moment it seem bit random. Sounds and music created nice atmosphere, graphics felt bit rushed. Overall interesting idea and fun little game!

B:/ Connected by AidanMarkham 2017-08-10T08:59:36Z

Really interesting game, a lot of potential to create really challenging puzzles! I loved everything about it! My only complaint was maybe you could parse command so you could be able to type “m1” instead of “m 1”.

Quad and Cycl by ijzm 2017-08-18T15:56:41Z

I found the switching between characters really annoying and too sudden. It left me couple of times really confused. Also as mentioned earlier: different resolutions of lo-res graphics don’t fit well together.

Lola's Barkade by A-Flat Miner Studios 2017-08-11T10:58:49Z

Funny idea and interesting take on the theme! I love the graphics, they are really well done. Gameplay was okay, I wish there was more alert or something when machines turn off. Everything is now so sudden, bankruptcy happens so quick I had any idea what I did wrong. Overall needs bit tweaking but fun and beautiful game still.

Trough The Desert by zyow 2017-08-18T15:40:32Z

I like idea but execution feels really sloppy. Physics are odd, you can zoom out of the “hangar”, desert has some weird blobs in. Lack music or at least some kind of ambience kills the atmosphere. Default Unity font and UI graphics have too little padding, Go-button is almost hidden. There is great idea here, just needs lots more work.

Elemental Harmony by Snowdrama 2017-08-10T08:00:31Z

Congratulations for making your game this polished in a such a short time! Here are some notes/complaints from me:

Gameplay wise it was nice and fluid, i encountered same bug as someone earlier noted where game would freeze on enemy's turn. Maybe you could have given some sort of run down on units in start. Took me while to figure out what they did. Also some attacks are really hard to notice, maybe add bit more “punch” to them.

Graphics are well done for most parts. One problem which is really common with all LD games is fact that no one changes default font or ui graphics of Unity. It just makes your game look so much less complete.

Music is nicely done. Maybe some sound effects to add more impact to hits?

Eclipse by SaraMartins 2017-08-06T17:13:33Z

Great job with the visuals and sounds, you created really wonderful mood. Gameplay on the other hand wasn’t really interesting. I didn’t really find any motivation for completing maze after first time. Sometimes it was also bit confusing where the character actually was. Moving camera with mouse felt bit pointless, why not just adjust camera so player can see? Maybe flesh out the story more, and give player that way more motivation to keep playing?

Asolar by krunoslav 2017-08-04T14:57:16Z

Fun and interesting game, and really different take on theme! Props on using cellular automaton as a game mechanic! I missed some graphic or some particle effect on explosions, they felt bit sudden. Also it could add more to the game if you could die to your own bombs. Simple art style worked well, but character felt out of place (and lack of animation made it feel more like a crosshair than character). Also movement stopping completely when bumping into a building was bit annoying. With couple of tweaks this could be fun little game!

A Growing City by Lipsch 2017-08-04T14:36:23Z

Nice concept but I felt execution would benefit from bit re-thinking. My biggest complaint was lack of any kind of key/controls listing (you explained mechanics well), I was bit confused at first and misclicked couple of buildings in random places. That leads us to second problem I had, after resetting game (main menu/start game) placement didn’t work anymore. Same happened both in web and downloadable version. After I got the hang of it, I managed to complete the game.

I really liked your minimalistic art style. Only things that bothered me was that there wasn’t enough padding in the tutorial windows and changing font size felt bit sloppy (also not fan of Arial, but that’s just me :)). Also different heights on terrain made it look bit confusing and busy. Flat land could work as well as height didn’t seem to affect gameplay in anyway.

Soundwise your game was bit lacking, maybe a simple background music or ambient could have added more atmosphere to the game.

Overall interesting idea and nicely done game!

The Unseen by Will_D 2017-08-14T17:21:17Z

Great game, one the best I’ve seen so far! I’m absolutely in love with the visual style. Atmosphere is really tense and it’s interesting how I got the feeling that my torch was going out even though that was not the case (so I think your game fits the theme).

Only negative thing I have is this little bug I found: My strategy to avoid eyeballs was hugging the walls constantly. Sometimes when there was something behind the wall in reach of the light and I was positioned close enough the wall, light would show up behind the wall and sometimes reveal eyeballs without triggering them.

Like this: Näyttökuva (291).png

That little bug aside, congrats on creating a masterpiece!

A dark time by eduardogrdev 2017-08-19T09:24:53Z

Am I really bad at this or is this game really hard? I survived at best 1 day. Usually just got surrounded by zombies and shooting them didn’t seem to do anything. As mentioned earlier radius of the light is too small, and also what’s with the DAY being dark. GUI needs to clearer, atm hard to tell buttons and and meters apart. Pick up icons (on top of the screen, I assume they are pickups) are way too small and hard to distinguish. I like the idea (this could become really interesting game), but balancing and graphics need more work.

Party Island by StevyGee 2017-08-19T09:01:28Z

Funny and interesting entry! Especially liked sounds and music. Visuals are bit lacking, they get worse during gameplay as after some point you can’t even see anymore the things you are adding to the island. Overall good job!

Exocharge Infinite by Karnage Studios 2017-08-17T07:55:45Z

Very polished and smooth experience! I’m not big fan of bullet hell games but you managed add some puzzles elements to your game which made much more appealing to me. Graphics are well done most part but times there so many particle effects on screen it becomes hard to understand. Also you could have taken the 80’s neon glow / Tron theme even further, some elements like the dull gray ground looks, well, dull. Sounds and music fit well to the theme. Overall great job!

I Am S.A.M by MachineTribe 2017-08-17T08:24:02Z

I don’t know how to rate this. You really throw player straight into the deep end here. I didn’t get anywhere, I might be stupid or impatient. As suggested earlier some direction or pointer to get started would have helped.

SOMETHING IS WRONG. SOMETHING IS WRONG. SOMETHING IS WRONG. by Heather Flowers 2017-08-17T08:48:56Z

An interesting idea but I feel you could have made so much more with it. As it is game felt really easy and quick, might be my 10/10 colour vision but some cases I saw the cube immediately from start(lighting gave some sides little bit different shade). Switching its material to shadeless could have prevented that. You could have created some really cool puzzles with this idea, now it’s just matter of walking to cube and clicking. I even ignored the ascii characters completely as they didn’t seem provide any useful information.

Amber-graph by corporatedinc 2017-08-10T08:29:05Z

Maybe little explanation on what I was supposed to be doing and what those numbers meant (I really don’t know anything about algorithms)? I figured out but with couple of tries, others might not be as patient. Overall I liked the simple puzzle gameplay and aesthetics went well with that. Not sure how to rate mood or humor so I am leaving those blank.

Almost Home by willvasco 2017-08-10T08:42:20Z

Overall nice and very atmospheric game, well done! I found hitting the energy cells really hard, maybe make so that player doesn’t have to hit them exactly spot on.

The Last Battery by goncalomb 2017-08-17T09:10:34Z

Though it’s cool you managed to make this entirely in HTML/CSS, game itself wasn’t that cool. Some variation to gameplay could have made more interesting and challenging, like bolts with different sizes that give you different amounts of energy. Messages that pop into view where either pointless or I didn’t really have time to read them. If want to have backstory to game this simple, you need make it count. Random messages about flappy bird or Katy Perry do not build atmosphere that well and keep player engaged.

Locomatomatic by SecretC 2017-08-11T10:44:33Z

I had blast playing your game! I like how it’s really simple at first but gets harder from just by simple fact that your train gets longer. I just wish there were more upgrades and stuff to buy, but great job getting all this in. And everything works really smoothly. One little nitpick: at first I didn’t understand that those boxes were the engines. Maybe differentiate them from each other and make them more “engine like”. Otherwise amazing job!

The Electrician by Catoto 2017-08-19T09:10:01Z

I liked art and sounds/music together. Gameplay was bit confusing for me, I didn’t understand why I sometimes got zapped. Was it random or did I do something wrong.. Overall loved the simplicity of it all, great job!

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Glowing Meadow by Ekilibr 2017-12-10T15:17:09Z

I had same zip-file problem, windows didn’t recognize it as proper zip, 7-zip worked though. Really cute and well executed game, easy to learn and hard to master. Gameplay became quickly really stressful and I started accidentally cut down plants and watering weeds. I don’t know whether game is too hard or I’m bad at it;) At least it really fits the theme. Also it’s bit annoying when you have plant surrounded by other plants and can’t get to it. Pixel art is really well done and sounds and music build up the atmosphere. Overall great job guys!

Lava Lamp Factory by Jcourt 2017-12-19T12:26:17Z

First of all: I almost didn’t play your game because of the graphics. Those fully saturated colors are an eyesore and literally hurt eyes. Never use full saturation in such a large amounts, especially red with green. I liked the concept. It’s interesting to see economics simulation built around a niche item. I just hope you’d flesh out the economics bit more, like earlier suggested about demand for different colored lamps. Also AI wasn’t the best. It felt as after playing a while my biggest bottleneck was getting the bots work (or destroying ones that had bugged out). Overall there were lots of interesting elements here, the bots and managing a production, but execution felt bit unfinished.

Crate Storm by Goncalo Monteiro 2017-12-17T08:42:42Z

Overall very well done entry. I think the game needs some kind of negative feedback if crate is not delivered. As is you could just ignore crates if they were pushed into tricky location. A penalty for not delivering would make this more of a game and less physics simulation.

A time paradox by lythom 2017-12-18T08:38:01Z

Visuals and music are on point here, great atmosphere. Interesting concept and story is told in cool way, well the part I got to see. This brings us to the problems, controls and difficulty. As many others commented, controls felt slow or lagging. And it didn’t help that difficulty ramped extremely quickly. I might be stupid but I did not manage to get through level 2, despite several tries and different tactics. Overall I really enjoyed your game and would like to see more of it.

GrowboRally by daniel 2017-12-09T10:36:10Z

Awesome idea and fun game! Graphics look bit placeholderish, or rushed, and weird scaling of the end screen doesn’t help. The card icons are bit unclear, as they are really important part of the game, maybe make them more clear or bigger. Handwritten font/texts are not working best for legibility. Overall experience was fun, execution left me hoping some reworking/rethinking.

Octopode embrace by ThiefViolinist 2017-12-10T10:15:54Z

I really loved the art style, it’s really cool. I found shooting the pirates(?) bit too hard, I don’t think I actually ever hit them just run away from them;) Also sometimes clicking destination didn’t do anything. Otherwise solid gameplay. Sadly I had couple of crashes too. Some nitpicking: you had the nice script font you could have used instead of unity default font (arial) in port/island names (and other places), it would have made game even more consistent. On map names where in such small size I found it kinda hard to read. Maybe ambient sounds of something like that could have given the game bit more atmosphere?

Polyose by dylanilvento 2017-12-19T11:50:17Z

I thought shooting with arrow keys was bit clunky. Maybe a mouse aiming could have been better solution? Also when I had around 100 pieces movement started to jerk. Gameplay plateaued for me between 100 and 140 pieces. You could have added more enemies or harsher punishments as player gets more parts, as is I could have basically continued playing for ever. I liked the simple visuals. Only problem was tiny bullets, could have been bit bigger.

Public Opinion Monitor by ayame9joe 2017-12-25T15:23:10Z

I have to agree with others: I had no idea what was going on and what to do. I liked the visuals and music though.

Tillage Fever by pigdev 2017-12-19T12:37:55Z

A nice looking well executed management game, great job! The game is bit simple but I had fun playing it couple of times. Also kudos for making a short and still interesting game!

Bunny Mayhem Simulator by souperstrawer 2017-12-17T11:57:09Z

Your game is really pretty, kudos if you made all the assets during the jam! Game otherwise feels bit confusing. Collect and shoot carrots at bunnies until your pc lacks out? I miss some kind of goal or motivation to do so. Feels bit pointless otherwise. Also lacking part is just bad design.. Regardless I love this game for all it’s cuteness and weirdness. Good job!

Santa's Factory by SaraMartins 2017-12-09T07:40:06Z

Overall great game with fun idea and wonderful atmosphere. Art style is nice and crisp. Music and sounds build atmos very well. My only complaint, as others have pointed too, is the controls. I found picking up the presents really hard, and stressful after they started piling ;)

Ionising by Jajo 2017-12-16T08:42:57Z

Jumping is indeed buggy, but the bigger problem for me was “sliding” controls. All the surfaces felt really slippery and was hard to stay on them. Visuals are nice but I feel music doesn’t fit them. Sort of like adding 80’s bleeps and bloops to a ultra realistic modern FPS. Anyway good job for a first Unity game!

Power Surge by Mettra 2017-12-09T07:54:25Z

I really enjoyed your game. Is it me but I found managing the upgrades really tedious so I ended up just avoiding getting any. Especially ones that weren’t instantly obvious what they did. Art is really well done, sounds maybe bit bland. Overall great job!

Ps. Press any key (except mouse button) to continue;)

Risky Robbery by Markus 2017-12-16T08:26:15Z

Overall very well done game, but I had to point out some little issues. Not fan of the separate instruction manual, you could have included tutorial in gameplay somehow. Actions lack some sort feedback, getting caught by the guard didn’t feel that big of a deal as he just left. There is lot of text in game and sort of comes and goes, really hard to read. I liked the simple look of the game and how you could zoom in and out. You built a great atmosphere with lighting and sounds, good job!

Fruitless by MadNukin 2017-12-19T07:51:23Z

Really great pixel art and animation, lack of music or any sounds makes it feel bit empty. Gameplay is well executed. Difficulty might bit too hard in the beginning, I didn’t manage to get any downgrades in my few tries.

Ps. Read the other comments after writing this: I guess there were supposed to be sounds in the game, for some reason they didn’t work for me..

Drag n Hoard by Spiffy 2017-12-17T08:29:28Z

Great idea with the gems limiting your jump, but could have possibly gone even further and make it more punishing. Or earlier, I usually just lost some gems to spikes or to the enemies before actually getting any effect to my movement. Sounds are very fitting to the visual style. I’m not sure about font you chose, non-pixelated font really sticks out in a bad way. Otherwise graphics are really well done.

Retro Rave Meteor Strike! by ksbdude 2017-12-16T08:51:21Z

Nice arcade game with right amount challenge! I liked the simple visuals and sounds. I just wish there was some sort of background or something as times it felt almost as if I couldn’t move. Or I wasn’t sure if I was moving. Good job!

Praise is not enough by Lumasi Games 2017-12-10T14:55:45Z

Gorgeous background visuals and music, but everything else seems subpar with them. Gameplay isn’t very engaging, most time spent just checking out the numbers so visuals feel just add-on. It felt bit more like I was playing blackjack than duelling. I really like the idea and atmosphere but the game part needs something more.

Didgeribug in da place ! by Hippunk 2017-12-25T15:35:37Z

Mostly I had really pleasant experience playing your game, but controls are just plain odd. Why ZQSD? Arrow keys are bit annoying to use with left hand, so I’d prefer using wasd as thats a standard. I loved the visuals, really great style here. Also musics fits really well and builds a great atmosphere. Overall amazing first ludum dare entry!

Super Trader 64 by WildGamut 2017-12-10T10:56:31Z

I see 64 in title, I am instantly intrigued. Interesting concept and quite fun game you have created. First I found the controls to be bit clunky (to be fair 64-era controls were;)) but got used to them. After few trades I no longer had any idea what I had in my bag. Some kind of counters for the different items could have been nice. Now I just traded until I had completed the trade or ran out of time. Graphics are nice most part, really reminds me animal crossing. Not fan of the flickering textures though, and that’s more PS1 thing too;) Overall nice atmospheric game with interesting gameplay.

Ps. Sell this idea to Nintendo for their next Animal Crossing title.

Eternal Darkness by kasperhangard 2017-12-19T13:22:41Z

Is there a way to rotate the defensive walls? I couldn’t figure out so just built a sort of stone tunnel. Enemies are bit scarce. I saw one early and walked away from it, didn’t see another rest of playthrough (got bored and quit the game before winning/losing). There seems to be no threat walking into darkness, and no reason to build lights. I wandered carelessly around collecting materials and returned to my stone tunnel base to build more stone stuff. Menus should have a auto-collapse on them and a “blueprint” able to be cancelled. I accidentally built a wall couple of times by clicking a menu item while having the blueprint still out. I loved the character art, kind of reminded me of Playmobil characters. Atmosphere was well built with lighting and music. Fun concept with a lot of potential but the actual game needs more work.

Waltz by Steffan 2017-12-25T15:50:36Z

Graphics are really great. I loved the style. Your concept sketches in your post looked really interesting too. I would love to see all those characters in game. Gameplay though, no, I didn’t manage to find the right guys. Not sure if I even got close. Maybe if you’d add some sort subtle hint if player has chosen right musician so that those of us that aren’t musically inclined could play the game also.

Breakpoint by Quade Zaban 2017-12-16T09:17:06Z

Interesting visual style, but you probably went bit overboard with it. There were times I felt bit ill because of the amount visual effects on the screen. Sounds and music was really great quality and fit the graphics style. Controls were well done. Although I found the constant controller vibration bit annoying. Start of the game was bit odd. No instructions or anything, character of in such odd place in odd angle it was really confusing. Took me while to realize that I could rotate the view, but even after that some of the jumps felt really frustrating to get right. There are really amazing elements here, but as whole experience left bit unfinished aftertaste.

Conservation Island by kix334 2017-12-18T08:51:57Z

I loved the visual style and music. Gameplay felt bit random. Either I had to madly click through huge amount of bunnies or burn them and leave random ones alive. Clicking became extremely difficult as number of bunnies goes constantly up, quicker I squish them. And burning seemed to end in random result likes all female colony. This is fun to play couple times but doesn’t offer much to keep playing.

Crowd Control by PolyHatSteve 2017-12-09T10:15:06Z

Even the easy mode was too hard for me. Mostly because it’s really hard tell apart gunmen and trolls from growd. I guess that’s the idea but with monochrome colors and geometric shapes it’s a quite challenging task. Overall I still enjoyed your game, as whole it felt polished and well executed.

Candyspotting by Nage 2017-12-19T07:38:24Z

Nice game, with stylish choice of graphical assets and music! Little simple but quite fun to play still. I wish that I could run from the cops when they spot me. It would make much more sense with the theme that way. Overall good job!

LD44 — Your life is currency

Seize the Clay by SecondDimension 2019-05-01T13:03:06Z

Absolutely wonderful atmosphere! Music and the visuals are on point and executed perfectly. However I think that the gameplay needs lot of tuning. At first I thought that creation of the pots fun and interesting mechanic, but after playing through several days I noticed that it didn’t really matter at all what I did to the pot. I did experiment where I created two pots according the order and one that wasn’t anything like the order. Got best price out of the “bad” one..

Overall I think that your game is a solid entry. Artsy atmosphere really makes up the shortcomings in gameplay. Great job!

Hammed Robbery by YouBeStrong 2019-05-12T17:35:47Z

Your game is a such polished entry that it is really hard find any flaws in it. I absolutely loved that you made those cutscenes at start and end of the game. Really cool touch! Gameplay was easy enough pick up quickly and still gave nice challenge. Graphics are perfect! If need to nitpick something, I found the choice of having the hands flat shaded with everything else smoothed out odd decision. But that’s totally irrelevant and I think that your game really deserves high points in every category. Awesome job!

SubMoney by hbocao 2019-05-09T16:53:23Z

Wow, your game is great! I had fun playing couple of playthroughs even though the game (the rhythm part) was for me really hard and unforgiving. It felt like I had to exactly on, no bad hits like usually in rhythm games. I adored the simplified graphics, everything was perfectly crafted. Choice of sounds and ambience really made the subway station feel real. You could add a sound effect every time you get money, that way you could track your performance moneywise without shifting your eyes from arrow goals. Congrats on making all this in such a short amount of time, that's quite a achievement!

Capsule Collector by uvwar 2019-05-03T15:37:29Z

I absolutely love the ridiculously weird and stupid idea. Gameplay was bit meh though. The idea and the visual style play so well together that I felt that game needed something more. Maybe change way the finger behaves (like suggested by earlier commenters) or have different levels. Also had bit problems nudging the capsules out and after while it was hard to see the finger tip at all. Overall I love the crazy out-of-box idea and funny execution, great job!

Free Buss Pass by Jajo 2019-05-08T17:30:27Z

Surprisingly finished game for a one evening creation! I’m not sure if I understood the logic behind gameplay, felt bit random. I went around seducing people, if that didn't work duelled them. And that’s how I won the game? I liked the combination of super low res pixel art and music. You could make the player character stand out bit more, took couple of seconds in start to find the odd one out.

Seaway by Constantin 2019-05-03T16:01:56Z

Visuals and music really made the mood for me, it was perfect. In fact I was instantly drawn to your game after I saw just one screenshot.

I liked how you guided me in start by having just empty space and need to try out the controls. That’s really nice way of teaching the game mechanics to player. But after enemies were introduced the gameplay became bit hard too fast. I wish that same kind of guidance was used here too. Maybe ramp the difficulty bit slower? Those bigger ships were really hard. And on my second play I realized that there were collectables on the islands. They were kinda hard to spot, especially in frenzy of the combat. And I never found any harbours.

All in all perfect atmosphere, everything was nicely done and well polished. Amazing entry altogether!

Your Money's No Good Here by Dis0rder 2019-05-05T08:46:49Z

Great use of photos as graphics, they really set up the mood. And with the music, totally perfect. Storywise I wish I had even one fork in the story. I replayed second time to check if that choice actually mattered. Apart from the lovely image of contents of the fridge, it didn’t make any difference. I know that time is really limited when creating the compo game, but you could have had some other route to get same ending. That would have made the illusion that your choices matter, made the visual novel more game like.

The Shifter Machine by UnidayStudio 2019-05-05T08:18:51Z

I also had reaally low FPS even on the medium setting. I tried to not let it bother me but the part with zombies was quite difficult play with low fps and small targets to hit. Technical issues aside, I think your game has lot of potential in it. I just wished that you could have gone the full portal route and created some other way of handling the zombies than shooting (shooting with blood I mean). There was space for interesting puzzles here. Graphics are nice mostly. The character did not seem to match the style of the walls and other surroundings. The placement of the text box was bit odd. Felt almost like I had tilt my head to read it. Centered could have worked better. I also had bug when I died, the dialogue started from beginning even though I already had the gun.

Sinking Town by detectiveLosos 2019-05-05T18:21:55Z

Took me while to figure out that you could actually rotate the camera. It was bit frustrating to play without that. Maybe add that to the list of controls?

I really enjoyed your game. Graphics are for most part really great. That text box in the world, clipping into things, was bit annoying. Music is minimal and fitting for a robot world. Puzzles were on mostly nicely balanced (post-jam version). Only thing that I really disliked was moving through the world which felt really buggy and messy at times, I would get stuck on stuff, go behind certain elements and so on.

Overall I enjoyed playing, great job!

Tanemaki by Wyatt 2019-05-05T09:06:12Z

Atmosphere is superb, graphics, sounds and music are on point. Gameplay lacks some sort of main goal or reason to do all this. As it is, the core gameplay is well executed. But after while you notice that all the plants you have planted have gone. Racing to sow as much seeds as you can feels kinda opposite of the games general mood. I could have just gone on longer but this lack of direction, a goal, made me give up. Overall I think that this game could have potential as similar mood piece like Flower for more casual gamers: The mood and aesthetics are already great!

Precious is Life by -banzi 2019-05-09T17:16:25Z

Took me little bit time learn how the game worked even though I read through your instructions. Icons could have had tooltips or something like to be more clear. After I figured gameplay out, I breezed through the game and had fun. Graphics are storybook like and really well done. The lack of any sound kinda killed the mood. But overall I feel that you had really well crafted world and gameplay, time is sparse even in Jam so no sounds is understandable. The amount of graphical assets you managed to create is crazy. Awesome job!

Cats Without Cars by B33Thr33 2019-05-05T07:54:02Z

Overall your game is great it has lot of potential. I just had these few issues that I think you could improve on.

First of all controls, I found the way movement worked in bit annoying way. Camera movement seemed too fast and control scheme was too complicated for me to get in such a fast paced game.

Level structure and spawning player was quite unfair. Enemies would shoot me from out of screen and with the really fast moving bullets dodging is quite hard. Some obstacles in level could prevent this. And maybe limit how high you can aim, as there was lot of spawn camping happening, sometimes I could not even land before I was already shot. Also didn’t find any shops (or stayed alive long enough to find them)?

I love the night-in-the-wood-ish art style. Just some nitpicking for the graphics: things like margins and cohesion with UI graphics and rest of the game bothered me. Really making sure that every margin and padding and such is though out can make graphics go from great to perfect.

All in all your game nicely executed and has lot of great aspects in it, despite minor flaws.

Life Engineer by Coder Channel 2019-05-05T17:47:40Z

Hope you know that you are really talented for your age! I had fun trying assemble some frankenstein creature hybrid of a dog and snake. Your game’s idea is the kind that makes you go “why didn’t I come up with this, this is brilliant!”. Here is some ideas for further development. Maybe have a bigger area to build in, so you can build bigger or more creatures. Maybe add ability flip and rotate parts. Anyway, great job!

Vamp Ko. by Aleph Null Productions 2019-05-08T17:47:46Z

I also had hard time finding the coffee. You could have had maps on walls like those “emergency exit route” kinda things, from which player could get the layout of the office. Atmosphere was really good, kinda creepy. Was little spooked when I heard that door sound. Who’s there? Is it you boss...

My Life is Cactus by Aqshay 2019-05-01T13:31:24Z

Note even before playing: that is a one huge file for a jam game. Is all that necessary?

I like the idea of the first person tower defense kinda game. I wish that you’d somehow communicated and taught me in-game more on what I’m supposed to do. Took me while to figure out. Structuring the zombies in a wave system or spawning them in recognizable patterns would have helped. It all feels so random, and unnecessary difficult as a zombie would suddenly appear behind me.

I also encountered some (not game breaking but annoying) bugs: I could strife only right for some reason and sometimes the cactus upgrade mechanic would not work.

Corporation Management Assistant Program by PHILIBERT Pontacier by Mister Ornicar 2019-05-12T18:32:33Z

Here some constructive criticism for your game, sorry for really long post;)

Gameplay

Tutorial was great touch, although there was a lot to take in at once. That left me feeling little overwhelmed. I was able to pick how to play in spite of the initial confusion. The gameplay itself became really repetitive really quickly. I found that best tactic was just buy one worker, and just quickly click through the work menu and select them. And repeat this until I got enough money to buy a upgrade, while completely ignoring the stats. After I’d buy new one and rinse and repeat. I felt that the work system needs more fleshing out instead of just clicking a button.

Mood/humour

In this category your game really excelled. The advisor character (photo guy) and the writing was funny. Rhythm of the just right poses to emphasize points was perfect. Also thought that the intro with inbox full of spam was fun addition.

Graphics

Using the photos was great idea, and executed in really good way. I’m not fan of the “anime” style character illustrations. That’s really hard style pull of in a polished way. And I don’t think that they fit the rest of the visuals. Menus were little mishmash. If your not already using vector graphics program to create icons and ui graphics, you should spend little time learning basics for one. That’s great way to create more polished ui graphics more quickly.

Sounds

The existing sounds were great and used in just right way. During the gameplay itself at least some sounds would have made the game feel more complete.

Overall

I think there was lot of really great ideas in your game. Core gameplay could use bit structuring and rethinking. Bug free and ultimately positive experience. Good job!

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Dark Soil by Pietro Ferrantelli 2018-04-28T13:12:58Z

Awesomely executed and complete feeling polished entry, great job! Pixel art as perfectly done and I love color palette you chose. Music also fits the mood very well, bit repetitive in longer play though. Slight problem with the gameplay I had, was that it felt kinda aimless or lacking goal. I’m not familiar with Dark souls franchise but to me getting better weapons isn’t achievement enough for me. Also there is no reason to plant those things. Overall despite these nitpicks your game is one of the most polished game I’ve seen so far.

Save The Jazz by Tutti Ankka 2018-05-01T10:10:52Z

I did not manage to get out of the first bit without being noticed. It really hard to tell whether it was because I was off the rhythm or was seen by the guards. Difficulty (for me at least) was way too high from the start. The game could have benefitted from a sort of practice area, less guards and time to get used to rhythm. Were lights pulsing in the rhythm? I’m left confused.

Music was good, the alarm really loud. Graphics in their own blocky way were charming. Overall I wish that I was better at this or the game easier. Idea is really interesting but I didn’t get experience it for more than couple of button presses.

Build The Road Jack by badpaul34 2018-05-02T15:08:26Z

Thoughts on jam version: Visuals were perfect on most part, bit placeholderish in some parts with arial and default Unity ui graphics but that’s just minor detail. My biggest complaint is the build mode, I had hard time using it and controlling the camera with both controller or keyboard-mouse-combo. It kept flipping, turning, and swirling even slightest movement and placing tracks was bit frustrating. At one point camera moved out of the bounds and I could not get it to focus on the tracks anymore. Hope this is fixed in the post jam version. All in all a cool looking racing game, with an interesting twist. Great job!

Learn with Babafounini by Nicso 2018-04-25T15:59:05Z

Found two backpacks, and got to the stage where Babafounini released the dogs and turned off the lights. I couldn’t see anything except for the sky and just randomly wandered around. Nothing happened? I could hear the dogs, but everything was black. After while it felt like I was stuck in place. I also had trouble with dialogue not always responding to E being pressed.

I quite liked the visuals, maybe tone done saturation. It was in places bit hard on eyes. Sounds were very well done, loved the way Babafounini talked.

Overall it’s kinda hard rate this experience as I’m not entirely sure if this was how it was meant to go.

Bari - The Fisher Plane by Scruffy 2018-04-25T15:33:32Z

Loved the look and atmosphere, but fishing was really difficult. Plane didn’t turn quickly enough and doing small corrections to to align yourself with the schools of fish made plane turn too much. Also tilting and moving camera exactly with the plane felt “wrong”, maybe show little more on the side where plane is turning? I also managed to lost the plane couple of times by flying too steep angle through the water and seeing underneath it. I really like the idea and atmosphere, but the gameplay needs more work in my opinion.

Humaning by PixelProductions 2018-04-27T13:53:48Z

Fun idea and nicely executed game! I had couple of problems with it though. You could have shown player what russian looks like or hints what they would look like. I managed to play until I was supposed to find “indians”, and none of them looked the part for me. Tutorial was too slow, way too slow. Water was running out at the same time and you could play with the tutorial on the screen. One screen could have been enough, as this isn’t overly complicated game. Graphics are good most part. As you said this is unfinished, some look really rushed too. Loved the human characters. Music and sounds fitted the theme very well.

Tetris of the Colossus by Elmeri 2018-05-01T15:36:57Z

I enjoyed playing your game. It was nice combination of puzzles with simple action. Goal of the game was left bit unclear by your description and by game itself. I don't mean you have to specifically say what to do, but guide player through subtle hints. First placement was confusing as I didn’t know that I actually had done it, piece took quite while to come down. Generally placement blueprint confused me, it would randomly change colors and sometimes it would not place a block at all. Midway build of the base came out of nowhere, and end cutscene just kinda happened. I’m not entirely sure what I did. I loved the visual style. It was really well executed. Cutscenes were cool addition. Music built up the atmosphere beautifully.

About Love by maskinmask 2018-04-29T14:19:17Z

Aww, that was sweet. I really liked how you managed tell a story just using a few symbols. Combined with music and simple animation, you created characters, world and story. Great job!

Gamewise I had couple problems. I was kinda missing those tower defence tropes, like placeable stuff and area effects for the special abilities. Special abilities also could have been more clearly explained, now I was left bit confused what each did. And only way to find out was just click them, and after completing the game I still wasn’t sure what one of them did. Letter felt too powerful, and combined with the “heal”, levels were not challenging at all. Until the last one. I didn’t notice the decay effect on “the love meter” until the last level. And in that it felt bit artificially making level more challenging.

Overall I enjoyed the story and playing your game, despite few flaws. Visuals were unique and perfectly made. Music fitted the mood perfectly too. Game as whole felt really complete and well thought out, awesome entry!

SKYWOOOD PIER by designernap 2018-05-01T09:32:57Z

I feel really inspired after playing your game. So many options spring into mind how this kinda gameplay combination could be used in different ways. Atmosphere was really great, I liked the way disintegrating rooms and corridors forced you keep moving forwards. And how ambience, music and narrative created mood.

I kinda wished though that there was more content, more meaning to all is. I do realize that 48 hours is limiting the amount of content and developing. At moment this game is a kinda superficial, there are so many ways you could have taken it and made it more deep. Maybe in the end give player some task about objects and their meanings, as they are mandatory to pick up ( I missed one in my first attempt, I guess you could also draw more focus visually on them too). During my playthrough I was memorising the items at what they contained, as I was really sure that was information that was going play some kind role in the end. It made me feel like all the build up was for nothing.

Wreckless Rally by Flaterectomy 2018-04-26T09:33:00Z

Your game is perfect combination of arcade gameplay, clear pixel art, fun sounds and music and nicely balanced controls. Hard to find anything to nitpick, maybe I could have used even easier level to practise..

Chef, yes chef! by blacksheepza 2018-04-27T11:11:01Z

Throwing mechanic worked well after I figured how to use properly, but camera gave me some trouble. I was trying align it so I could get horizontal angle right and it would just slide just little off. Overall, minus the minor problems, gameplay was fun and interesting. Couple of times I managed to do the task but ingredient would still fall on the floor. That kind made me feel like I didn’t actually succeed. Visuals are simple and well done, style is just right. Overall feeling I got was bit sterile and empty, I wish there was more feeling of panic. Like someone earlier in comments suggested. Other cooks/chefs running in your way or some game mechanic to make player feel the urgency. Now I just had all the time in the world.

Harvest Hook by MaikelOrtega 2018-04-25T19:21:37Z

Super polished and cool looking game! I loved the minimalistic art style and fun sounds and music. Gamewise I had bit trouble getting accustomed to the controls. Lots flailing around in start:) After while managed even to grow something. Was there a way to get the crops underneath the hills? I also though from your instructions that the squid/octopus was bad thing..

Wasting Time In The Garden by xilentor 2018-05-01T15:50:53Z

I agreed that difficulty ramps up bit too quickly. I’m almost embarrassed to admit that it took while to figure out level two. All in all your game is neat little package, simple and well done visuals, and easy to learn to play. Lack of sound kills the atmosphere but even without sounds this a great achievement for compo.

Submerge by ectucker1 2018-04-25T16:21:04Z

My highscore was 17960. Really nice art style and atmospheric music. Some of the animations were cut short, like cthulus tentacles. Also i wished there was more impact upon hitting the enemy, particles or flash, or anything. While fighting megadolon it made me wonder if I was even hitting him. I too found some of the bosses (mainly cthulu) really easy and regular enemies more challenging. I don’t think I understood what the allies did. I did not notice any change in gameplay?

Thrust Vector by pogo 2018-04-29T16:54:37Z

This is so cool! I loved playing your game. It’s perfect combination of tactics and simple and easy to learn gameplay. Only nitpick I have regarding the gameplay is that you didn’t really explained what to do. So at first I just accelerated to full speed and drove off in a straight line, and found out that game area had borders which I wasn’t allowed to cross. After that fail I kinda got hold of the mechanics and almost managed to survive whole 30 turns. Graphics were awesome. The way game happens in one plane but view still has that feel of depth is perfectly executed. My only wish is that models would have some variation to instead of just pure white. Thats is yet again just a nitpick. Lack of sounds kinda killed the atmosphere, you could have even used some basic hum or something like that as background ambience.

Unbelievabubble by maximebugman 2018-04-24T10:50:54Z

Interesting combination of genres here, and they turn out to work quite well together. I loved the story, characters and the world. And the really dry humour. Graphics are really cool, but little rough around the edge towards the end. Gamewise it was bit hit and miss, some bugs that made game too easy for me: I managed to skip a whole lot of the game by falling into pit and respawning further along the level. Also there is no punishment in shooting the bubbles off in random directions, and thus allowing the player choose which colour to use. Kinda defeats the point of the puzzles. Overall great job, some more effort and bug fixing and this would really awesome game!

Ps. loved the Bubble Bobble reference, that’s my childhood game;)

Neon Space by SMILEY_4_ 2018-04-29T13:43:59Z

Really cool entry! I absolutely love the old school arcade CRT screen effect and graphics. Gameplay is easy to learn and yet challenging enough. At times it was bit hard to tell apart enemy ships and their bullets, especially those with long line weapon thing. But after I learned how they behaved and what shoot, it wasn’t problem. Sound design is pretty minimal, I missed background music or some kind of ambience.

Quest Sweeper by TheM 2018-04-27T16:49:05Z

I have played embarrassing amount of minesweeper in past, and your game makes that old idea feel fresh and interesting. Gameplay is easy to learn (as I knew rules for the original). Had bit trouble understanding items I found but figured them out after a while. I also encountered a bug or feature where exit from one of the outer areas would not active after I found the artifact. It worked after I revealed a life item. Visuals for some reason gave me Nintendo 3DS’s Streetpass quest vibes, which is a good thing. Simple and effective. Kevin MacLeods song was bit repetitive, but that’s his fault;)

Zenmaku by Gregor 2018-04-27T15:57:05Z

This game has superbly constructed atmosphere, sounds, music and visuals work together in perfect manner. Gameplay is hard as would be expected from bullet hell game, but not (for me atleast) overly so. I played with controller. Beautiful entry, great job!

A Nightmare on the Canned Goods Aisle by Tudvari 2018-04-29T15:53:20Z

Super interesting idea, gameplay was bit confusing at times though. Maybe make stuff on the selves bigger, so that player can clearly see if they are running low. Especially the freezer things were hard to see into and see if there was stuff in. Minimap is nice but there are so many selves and aisles that it felt I was more playing on the minimap than actual gameview. Also I’m not entirely sure if I figured out how to switch light bulbs, it just seemed to happen. The coupon thing added too much complication to already busy gameplay. Also the way the story was told left me confused. I didn’t know who I was. And tried to play the game while it was going on. Which probably wasn’t intended, as I was in the dark area where the killed worker was found. Maybe I’m the killer;)

Late Night Shopping by Kciwsolb 2018-04-29T10:46:57Z

I liked the atmosphere you’ve created with with typical sterile supermarket environment and flickering lights. Though I didn’t get the panic mood as I could not see what was coming for me. Maybe add some of “the darkness” to edges of the screen to give player feeling that it is close. Controls are bit sliding and character moves really quickly. That makes it really hard to position yourself in a right way. You could have gone for the lane type of setup where player switches between predefined lanes to avoid objects. Or you could have player control the forward movement too. As it is avoiding objects feels too hard, you really have to do just exactly or you get damaged. Graphics are simple and effective. I really liked the darkness coming over as a wall that pushes stuff forward. Ambient sounds also work really well in creating the eerie feel.

Dancemazing by MariosManiatis 2018-04-28T07:46:27Z

Your game has wonderfully constructed atmosphere. I adore the witness-que art style. Ambience is great in creating tension and sounds the monster make while moving disturbing and frightening. Maze could have had some landmarks or little variation to hedges. Something to give player sense of direction and to navigate with. At point I felt almost like I had explored the whole maze (and found the switch) and had nothing left to do. Probably I was just going in circles, although I used the classic hug-left/right-wall method. Game mechanics could use more work on too. I didn’t understand keeping quiet concept, as player character didn’t make any noise (footsteps etc). Also you just crouch all the time, there is no point not to. Dancing portion didn’t clearly give any feedback whether or not you actually pressed correct button on correct time. Overall atmosphere was so well done that I really enjoyed my short playthrough despite few flaws. Great job!

Sandbox Solitaire by Marchmain 2018-04-29T15:29:53Z

This is absolutely genius! Love how just adding physics to game of solitaire makes it ridiculous and playing interesting. My cards were possessed, they kept moving by themselves;) Humor comes from just physics working in a weird way. Visuals are relaxing and beautiful. Good job creating all the cards, especially J, Q and K in such a complicated style. I might have gone for the more modern aesthetic, just for cutting down workload. Instead of music, or besides it, you could have used some ambience, maybe there is window open and you hear birds singing. Maybe I am sitting in a cafe and hear people chatting in background.. Also it could have been even more ridiculous if you could interact with other objects on the table. Knock down the cup of tea by throwing cards at it etc.

OldIsWin by BetaCat 2018-04-25T15:07:33Z

Great idea here but controls felt too sloppy to make me smile. Jumping didn’t always work, I would get stuck on sides of the platforms and movement acceleration far too quick. Visuals and music are top notch though. I would love to see this more refined and maybe try it as co-op.

Real Text Adventure by honpray 2018-04-25T08:16:05Z

I like the idea of using text instead of graphics, but the execution of the style left me bit confused. It was at times hard to tell if I managed kill the enemies or not. Gameplay was simple, simple enough that I managed to pick up how to play without any instructions. Difficulty was bit low or non-existent, as it seems that you cannot lose in anyway.

A journey of the block by TomekS 2018-04-27T16:23:11Z

I have to agree with earlier commenters about that there is no reason for multiple colors. That actually confused me for quite some time. I had to read couple of the comments before I realized that I was supposed to push the button multiple times until right color. Also aiming to get the blocks in right place difficult. Maybe a mark where block would fall so player could figure how position themselves. Game is in its own simple way pretty, and your sound design and music fits it well. Being tetris related game I was hoping some traditional russian folk tunes, but that's bit too much to ask;)

A Carpenter's Tale by DeadlyMidnight 2018-04-27T15:38:38Z

I really liked the idea and enjoyed playing until reached the third level. After that it became more of platformer with awkward controls than text command platformer. You could have focused more on puzzle elements instead timing “j+enter” action as it is now. In whole your game is solid entry: nice crisp visuals, soothing sounds and music, and interesting storyline.

Fatty Boy Run by lyha 2018-04-29T11:10:29Z

Overall your game is well put together and polished. But there are few minor issues in it. There is a lot going on in the ui. At first it was really confusing. Consider making the poses more button like or scaling down score part. Also what’s with apples in score? Are the spheres apples? Poses also could work better if activating them was on keyboard instead of mouse. I get feeling this was designed mobile devices in mind. Graphics are really well done. For me it almost looked like player character was running bottomless;) There seems to be a bug where by doing one of the poses character moves slightly right and in longer play he is not aligned correctly for the hole in the wall and clips through the bricks.

Him & I by Aaronacus 2018-04-26T09:53:58Z

Art (as everyone else said) is really great and fitting style for a such dark game. Being so short game I wish there would be more animation or something happening on the screen. You know your asked “scrub the shit” and kitchen looks pristine, maybe some tiny smear on the wall or have her on all fours scrubbing floor. Build up unfairness and bad treatment. Gameplay was simple enough, but moving around felt almost pointless. You could have just scripted her movements according the players choices, since movement is only there to activate next event. Choices themself felt bit pointless too, as there was only two(?) possible outcomes. Also as pointed earlier text was kinda hard to read, some sort background could make it more legible.

Somnium by MrDragon64 2018-05-01T15:05:28Z

First of all, please, zip or rar your files together when using Google Drive for sharing. Now I had to pick the right files in order to play your game. People don’t generally have as much patience as I did…

About the game: Mouse is really sensitive, I had hard time looking at anything as view would tilt towards the ceiling or floor with slightest mouse movement. Environment and props look well done and built. Ceiling is bit low, kinda claustrophobic feeling, basement like. Background music gives nicely a sense of urgency. I couldn’t figure out what to do though. None of the screens did anything. I clicked, dragged, pressed through keyboard buttons. Some of the screens showed some movement in progress bars, but that seemed to be going on it’s own. What’s with the random cube following around? After a while I gave up.

Bridging the Gap by Bobok 2018-04-29T14:58:52Z

Your idea seems interesting but actual gameplay doesn’t do justice for it. Moving is painfully slow and annoying. You could have listed controls somewhere, LD entry page for example. At moment you leave player without any clue how actually play your game. Visuals are nice, an interesting idea could have been to make everything out of blocks as that is theme of your game. Are those songs in game made by you? That tetris metal remix sounds awfully familiar...

Fuel Race by Amour Du Pain 2018-04-29T14:36:21Z

Interesting idea and well constructed game! I think could have fleshed out more the building sim aspect. Maybe have some sorts of features on the landscape that make placing the facilities more meaningful. At moment you can get by just slapping stuff down at the right edge.

The Third Scattering by mbrezu 2018-04-25T08:47:34Z

This is fun! The cards add some strategy to usually mindless genre. Visuals are just right amount cuteness and color and I love the simplicity of the visuals. My only complaints are that it took little while to figure out what I was doing, even with your instructions and sometimes the swap would be one I didn’t meant to happen. I could see myself playing this on my phone on some boring bus ride (or something like that) instead of ever growing saga series. Very well done!

Bullet Snail by Video Gamus 2018-04-27T13:22:53Z

First I thought: bullet hell game that is turn based, I can handle that, even though I’m shit at bullet hell games. Nope, I was wrong. It’s fun to see how you managed to make even turn based game feel really hard and so that every move counts. Game mechanics felt really thought out and well executed, only thing that bothered me was that you could have more contrast on enemies and enemy bullets versus player bullets and ship. Generally bullet hell games use this color coding to make easier recognise things in fast paced action.

Brute Force Art Defence by Shellfish Games 2018-04-29T16:28:43Z

So that’s how Jackson Pollock created his art.. I enjoyed playing your game. I managed to get all the way through it, with just four regular and the boss passing through to the end. I had to zoom out (about 80% normal view, browser maximized on 1920x1080 res) to fit everything in browser window. Getting extra lives seemed bit overpowered. I had 22 extra in final level. And I used about ¼ of the lane, so I guess it was unnecessary long. Art was well done, maybe you could have used less saturated colors for more harmonious color scheme. Loved the way ground plane become a painting too in the end. Music was fitting but bit short taking in consideration length of the game.

Desert Fishing by nbickford 2018-05-02T08:35:30Z

Atmosphere in your game is almost perfect, great intro and gorgeous lighting. Lowpoly models with their flat shading just stick out in a bad way. I’m not fan of combining high-res realistic materials with super simple flat shaded models. Music is really fitting, eerie and intriguing.

Gameplay itself doesn’t give much to player. I managed to get “Dead fish..” and “One fish..” endings, or should they be even called endings as they are more like sudden stops. As is your game feels more like a sketch of an idea than complete piece. In storytelling terms there was a lot of buildup but no payoff. I was expecting more fishing, more that calm, static feel I associate with fishing. Doing a monotone chore to survive over and over again. I assume that my character died because of the heatstroke when I got the “dead fish..” ending. Game itself didn’t communicate that very well.

I have mixed feelings. Mood in your game is nearly perfect, but actual game falls short of expectations set by that.

Par 99 by notnullnotvoid 2018-04-28T13:27:36Z

I really enjoyed playing your game. At first it felt kind too open but after some figuring out manage understand where I was supposed to go. Atmosphere is really greatly built. Soothing music and effective but simple visuals. Great job!
