Fantastic game, my best score was just over 25000. My only suggestion is making the camera be able to be moved with the arrow keys or WASD instead of just with the mouse.

I had fun with it for two games so far, scored over 70k, but I feel the randomness of the cards screws me over too much. I just randomed a set which forced me into a wall and I guess it goes for the XCOM kind of managing risks in a way? If I look at it this way, it certainly shows potential.

There's a common joke I've heard of "action game but instead it's turn-based". Like an Asteroids JRPG, or Pong as a text adventure. I've never played Roborally so I don't know a ton of where the inspiration is drawn, but Snake works deceivingly well as turn-based, card-based game. Very good work from a design perspective.

I do have a sort-of bug to report: I'm currently using a 4k monitor with 150% scaling, and it caused the game to be zoomed in, meaning I couldn't see the UI on the top and bottom. Temporarily decreasing my scaling made the game work fine though.

@krobar Yes, the game is meant to be a high-difficulty risk-management version of a turn-based snake. Unfortunately we didn't have a chance to implement a way to look at your deck so you could get the potential cards for the next turn and weigh your chances.

It doesnt seem to work on my non 1080p screen, pretty much everything was off screen.

dorblin7z7 2017-12-05 05:50

Hey folks, looks like the game plays nicest on 1080p resolution. Otherwise, elements seem to leave the screen. Sorry about that!

This was a surprisingly engaging puzzler game. I was able to figure out how to play quite quickly and didn't run into anything unexpected. It made me a think and plan ahead more than I expected it to. If you tidy it up a bit and add some polish it could be a fun little mobile game. Great work!

nardandas 2017-12-05 06:08

Really really interesting game, but it seemed like you had to play way too conservatively to stay alive. My high score was 20k, but that was with a very unlucky draw of all 'move forward' cards. I'd definitely see something like this as a fun casual game if it was a bit fairer in that regard

ponker 2017-12-05 07:18

Snake turned into a funny turnbased puzzler! My luck drawing cards wasnt on my side sadly

zax 2017-12-05 19:37

cool game i watched your live stream while you was making it good jop keep it up! don't forget to check out my game too :)

blizary 2017-12-05 20:28

I liked the twist you gave on the old snake game however my luck with the cards wasn't so good and the icons on them were also a bit confusing to start with.

snowdrama 2017-12-05 23:00

Turn based snake, with tile based movement programming. I like it! Good job!

@blizary ME TOO! I got a hand with all forwards and "Turn Left, Turn Right" tiles so I inched my way straight into death XD

ryusui 2017-12-06 03:14

This is so dang good. I wasn't sold on the premise just reading about it, but after playing it, I wanna say you could put a pricetag on this with just a bit more polish. Maybe add cards with different bonus/negative effects?

dorblin7z7 2017-12-06 03:20

@ryusi Thanks so much for the feedback! We had a million ideas for cards, tiles, etc but had to cut everything that was non-essential. You should try to take the #1 spot on the leaderboard... :)

marjoriep 2017-12-06 10:54

What a cute concept! I would've never thought of turning a snake game into a turn-based experience. Nice job!

doodlebrisk 2017-12-06 14:52

Great game! The scoring is really well balanced. The tension that arises when you take the risk of going along the wall to get a multiplier apple is great. I found myself crossing my fingers and thinking ahead. Very well designed. The leaderboard provides a great way for the community to interact (good luck to whomever tries to beat my score!). Overall, awesome.

kutase 2017-12-06 23:06

I like this game. Turn-based snake looks unusually.

mahalis 2017-12-08 03:17

This is a ton of fun! It's a great new take on a classic - the strategy is really engaging. Excellent art and music too. I'd love to keep playing this - y'all should port it to mobile!

mess110 2017-12-08 17:15

Initially it was hard to figure out if the moves I was clicking were to be executed or ignored. Overall nice take on snake, makes you think instead of react.

tuomo 2017-12-09 10:36

Awesome idea and fun game! Graphics look bit placeholderish, or rushed, and weird scaling of the end screen doesn’t help. The card icons are bit unclear, as they are really important part of the game, maybe make them more clear or bigger. Handwritten font/texts are not working best for legibility. Overall experience was fun, execution left me hoping some reworking/rethinking.

yishalee 2017-12-09 13:28

Definitely new concept. I never played thid kind before, though a little challenging for me. But I suggest put some clear instructinos about the goal. I supose I need to put 4 actions in order to close this turn and when I finished move I'll get new actions.

daniel 2017-12-10 21:17

Thanks everyone for the nice comments and good feedback. There are some clear areas to be improved that people seem to be agreeing on.

csanyk 2017-12-12 03:30

Interesting project. It's like a child's board game, implementing the rules of the classic Snake game, but constraining the player's choices with random card draws. I'm not a fan of that particular design choice, but the overall implementation is well executed. My main problem with playing this was relating the snake's orientation to the diagrams on the cards. It didn't seem like they went in the direction I expected?

gankei 2017-12-18 10:53

It's a nice game . I like its mode and music. However, I can't know what will happen unless I think for a while before choosing moving options.Designing a mode that players can see the movements(like shadows) may be better.
