LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

GrowboRally by daniel 2017-12-05T03:08:31Z

I had fun with it for two games so far, scored over 70k, but I feel the randomness of the cards screws me over too much. I just randomed a set which forced me into a wall and I guess it goes for the XCOM kind of managing risks in a way? If I look at it this way, it certainly shows potential.

Shoot off their lumps by pixeye 2017-12-05T04:58:09Z

I kind of want more of it. The weakpoint mechanic works really well in 2D, forcing you to keep your aim steady. I think the game has a lot of potential as 2D Dead Space and I want that.

Snowman - Wildfire Edition by Tiberiusuciu 2017-12-24T22:52:24Z

I absolutely love how this game hits the theme. It's actually not more fire - it's more saved friends! I love it. If you can expand it and make it a whole game, I'll play it.

Spin Attack by ditzel 2017-12-24T23:41:57Z

I really loved the game, but the mechanics need more work. Jump is unresponsive, which is especially harsh for the level where you need to travel by fast moving coffee can. Also I stopped playing by level 19, because it was timed. The books would slide by themselves, and without means to rearrange them I just couldn't get myself to get up there. Other than that, a great little platformer! It has a shitton of levels, I have no idea when you had time to make those.

Heartless Jump by Nanda 2017-12-10T22:35:54Z

I feel the mechanics don't make much sense. I beat the game, but I spent most of the time in 1st level I believe. Jump power is also life, but lava kills you instantly on contact regardless of the amount of life you have? It also took me a while to figure out I have a double jump. Once I figured it all out, it was great fun.

LD42 — Running out of space

Super Responsible Parent by dietzribi 2018-08-17T20:52:48Z

It's responsive, it's fun, it's funny, it's challenging but manageable. My only gripe is that arrow keys don't work with space sometimes because of poor rollover, but you can use WSAD instead.

EVOLUTION by Noa Calice 2018-08-15T15:21:14Z

This is my absolute favorite game this LD so far. The 7500 building is hard to buy for some reason, but other than that, the theme, graphics, everything is just great :)

Emissary by Handle 2018-08-17T22:08:40Z

The objective is definitely not clear enough. I figured it out at some point, and got 539 total score before I failed. With more developement, I could see this on a tablet. Gameplay generally feels solid but more feedback would be welcome, failure is very often just sudden and unexpected.

I'm B'walkin' Here! by Ziamor 2018-08-19T19:01:51Z

This is such a cool concept! I would really love to see more content for this game. New obstacle types, new gamemodes, there is a ton of possibilities here.

Great Patch by Kobrar 2018-08-19T19:49:15Z

@lars-erik it should work with any HD+ resolution. In what way does it not work? Are you using mouse and keyboard?

Great Patch by Kobrar 2018-08-19T21:07:00Z

@lars-erik I have added a download for the game in resizeable windowed mode. Please check if it helps.

Could you also provide more specific system information? Which surface pro model? Os? Resolution?

Possible workaround: make sure the project executable is marked as **DPI-aware**; right-click it, then go to **Properties**, choose the **Compatibility** tab then force the display scaling mode to **Application**.

Roham! by Fenderbate 2018-08-17T22:30:12Z

I think this is a solid base. The combo timer somewhat works, I don't need to look to see it. I think you solved the hp meter very well but I'd recommend to change the dots to a more health-like symbol for clarity[green cross?].

I am not fond of the fact that not hitting anyone with the dash resets your combo. Progression seems to be tied to the combo and not time, which means the game becomes harder and more fun the higher your combo is, but you can't dash the growing danger, especially yellow guys, or your fun will be reset, and so you need to slowly move out of the way in a very not fun fashion, or pray that a valid target will move close enough in time. It would be way more fun if I could just dash all day. But the fun is there.

Count your Steps (or you will run out of space) by Akros 2018-08-17T20:59:03Z

I would like to see a top down layout of the room as well as numbers of the buttons. After all its a puzzle game and its good to know the puzzle :)

R.O.O.M. (Really Obvious Objects Moving) by NorthernDevGuy 2018-08-17T21:15:21Z

My first observation is that the game has an atmosphere and pacing of a puzzle game, but is a platformer instead. Jumping is unresponsive and unreliable, character is just sliding on platforms, and the perspective takes some getting used to. I think these areas need most improvement right now. That said, I really like the music and overall mood of the game.

Castle Z by Erick Alves 2018-08-19T19:05:31Z

With more complex levels, this can become a very cool game. The base idea is solid.

Plastic Patch Cleanup by Lars-Erik 2018-08-19T19:14:32Z

So we are theme bros I see! That's nice.

I would love to see more upgrade possibilities. Loss is inevitable and that's the point, but for the sake of fun I would love to upgrade the net size somewhat, etc etc. This game could go places, borrowing from td genre and more.

Polar Bear Ballads by diesdas 2018-08-19T19:21:49Z

I am not fond of how the point system can take away your points if you go the wrong direction. Points are not the point here, but still.

I like the theme and execution. Ending is a very nice touch :) I would love to see more games like this.

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Zeus Needs Omelettes by rjhelms 2018-12-06T02:46:08Z

I really like the little storytelling of this game :) The whole sneaking concept is very appealing, but wonky platforming drags it down a little bit. I would definitely play more sneaky sacrificing.

The Flautist by khofez 2018-12-06T02:07:25Z

This is way more peaceful and charming game than I thought. It doesn't seem like there is any sort of endgame to it, but its cool to just see a huge stream of sheep folowing you :)

Ultimate Sacrifice by goudagames 2018-12-06T17:40:21Z

I think the next wave should not spawn before you sacrifice old bodies or they disappear, because thats just mean. Also, the enemies sometimes spawn all around you and there is not enough time to prepare, which results in some cheap hits. That said, I love this game, its super cool :D

Your Previous Body Save You by Querk 2018-12-06T01:50:18Z

I think the game title needs work.

This is a very cool game for compo. Levels don't feel very engaging, but the premise is very solid.

DoomCamp by nathaliekill 2018-12-05T02:40:06Z

Controls need some work. It took me a while to get the camera to obey, not to mention giving out any kind of orders to the guards. For a while I blieved they could not recieve orders and are acting as intended. It would be nice to know if the next train will give you any new workers, since that may affect the way you treat them prior. Very morbid theme, I appreciate the courage.

Escape Pod by aevek 2018-12-05T04:49:45Z

So I finished all 15 levels. This is probably the most complete and best game I've played this LD. And we share theme interpretation :) Good luck to you and your team!

Nature is Harsh by hav24 2018-12-06T02:54:27Z

This is soooo awesome! The biggest problem this game has is that its flash. Level design is cool, theme is great, humor is there, graphics are there, polish is there. It's just very good.

Gnome Man's Sky by Tim Ruswick 2018-12-05T23:25:19Z

I really like the game, but the fact that pixels in the cursor aren't big enough bothers me.

The Hunt by DUUUUDE 2018-12-05T02:02:29Z

I can't let go of a child for some reason so I'm just dragging it with me forever. Also, I can't figure out how to perform the ritual. Placing specified sacrifice in various places in the circle and pressing and holding e in various places in the circle doesn't seem to work. I got a tiny bit of pink to show up but thats it, I couldn't even reproduce it later. I think you need to highlight the area where the sacrifice needs to be exactly, where the player needs to be and give a good button prompt when all requirements are met.

Other than that, I like this sort of games :)

I Am Bird by Acr515 2018-12-05T05:26:31Z

I love this game! One thing I feel is missing are infinite upgrades. You only have a few bird types, but you could increase flock size virtually infinitely. If you unlocked infinite bird flock upgrades once you finish all basic upgrades the game could have one more awesome up its sleeve :)

Voxel Leper by BumDag 2018-12-06T02:37:17Z

I feel the physics should be more deterministic than simulated. I really struggled to get through the floor whole. Other than that, a neat game, I enjoyed it. Thank you for making it :)

Village's Gods by Glauber 2018-12-06T02:42:01Z

I wish the game actually allowed me to pick my sacrifices from the whole village. The randomizer also can really screw you over, giving only low level vilagers. The concept is definitely worth exploring in management genre.

Stablishment by Gnurf 2018-12-05T01:47:09Z

I can't figure out some of the rituals. Killing plain men and women is sometimes ok and sometimes isn't. I can't figure out my mistakes. Feedback on your actions as well a list of mistakes you made on your last ritual would be awesome. Also, I can't deselect tools even if I try.

Fire Swept by Eric Smith 2018-12-06T03:22:37Z

I absolutely love the idea for this game. After playing this for a while it doesn't seem to go anywhere ultimately, but the premise of a tactical firefighting game is fantastic and underused. I'd definitely want you to develop this idea more :)

Space Battle Zero by rumor 2018-12-06T23:14:22Z

The mechanics of the game are very limited, but I understand that is due to time constraints. With that in mind, I don't think I can criticize the game in any constructive way. There are too many subsystems to wrap your head around them very fast, but once you realize you have a shield, your problems are solved :) There are a lot of directions you could take the game in. I'm interested to find out which one you choose!

Shepherd Sacrifice by aCuriosity 2018-12-21T01:48:29Z

The game is a fun base for something more. The first thing it needs is a win/lose state. It's a cute little idea, I enjoyed it :)

Also, high five for lamprey mouth!

Break a leg by AxelOlivier 2018-12-21T02:05:31Z

there seems to be no upper cap on the enemies. This makes navigating troublesome after a while. The logical next step for this game would be to add more variety. I really like the artstyle, the game is really ok

Meta Magic by Inkie Inc 2018-12-06T02:31:19Z

I find the arena size to be too small. Also using lower resolution to signal that things are wrong is cool. The game may need some balancing, I have no idea how to survive very long. It should usually be possible to survive infinitely with skills or have a conclusion at some point, like in wave based games.

Volcano Of Sacrifice by garagones 2018-12-21T01:59:53Z

This one was really cool! I dont know if I used the mechanics right because there was not enough feedback.

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Knightmare by krasse 2018-04-24T13:46:42Z

I second the notion that dash is kind of hard to control. Love the artstyle. I feel this kind of game would need a lot more of varied stuff to do since it's just a defense game, but it's a good start.

Number One Take Out by Kappa.B 2018-04-29T20:00:45Z

I think the game's shortcomings are on a very basic level and that's polish. I couldn't figure out how to get any money at all and as a result I've found the game increasingly difficult and not very enjoyable. Things like communicating game mechanics must always come first or people just won't know how to play. I love the artstyle though and the upgrade system would keep me playing for a little while if only I knew how.

Number One Take Out by Kappa.B 2018-04-30T01:14:40Z

@Kappa.B Oh, there was a red arrow all along! 😆 Yeah, with the upgrades it has a really nice progression. It's definitely a competent shootemup. Some small obstacles can surprise you and get you killed, and some non obstacles are the color of the obstacles, but other than that, it seems ok.

Golf N' Grenades by Imphenzia 2018-04-24T14:04:40Z

My largest complaint is that dead zombies still kill you. I really think they should just lose their collisions and slowly sink into the ground. Other than that, I think it is working as expected. I have yet to land a hit with a grenade :)

TBFTWorLD41 by joemid 2018-05-07T04:21:55Z

It looks nice, but can't be rated on graphics. Oh well. You can switch the dinosaurs with some keys on the keyboard. I have no idea what this even is. But it looks nice.

Dig And Sweep by rayriver 2018-05-05T23:01:44Z

I wish I could play this as long as I want. As it stands, I can't really get into it because the time runs out :( I like the idea.

Wreckless Rally by Flaterectomy 2018-04-24T01:31:34Z

I love this game. Best game this LD so far. I don't think I have any criticism. The tutorial starts off immediatley in the menu but it takes time to realize that so I had to watch it twice. Other than that, it's just good.

BINGO FUEL by LancesCaterpie 2018-04-24T20:22:41Z

I managed to beat mission one without knowing how to refuel. I actually think the cloud refueling needs to be seriously tweaked. I did not manage to work out any kind of behaviour which could help me out. There is no direction I can go in if I just cant see any clouds, because they might just not be there. I find the game barely playable as a result. And I would love to play it more, the plane switching mechanic seems very appealing.

Extreme Tower Fishing 2018 by Roka Josh 2018-05-07T20:43:15Z

The game is unfortunately ridden with bugs. I really like the concept and hope to see some more updates in the future :)

Extreme Tower Fishing 2018 by Roka Josh 2018-05-09T00:48:00Z

@roka-josh Upgrading was kind of weird. It seems like the current upgrade levels aren't properly retrieved from the towers. It makes it hard to decide what to upgrade since I don't know what I've already upgraded.

Zenmaku by Gregor 2018-04-24T00:19:32Z

I finished a level once, but then didn't know in the "level select" map. Overall, this game is absolutely beautiful and I love it. There is challenge, it is not overwhelming, and I think the theme has a lot of potential to explore. Wish you all the best, make more of those!

Play To Survive by Ajay.2002 2018-05-15T07:44:50Z

Here goes my 60th and final vote this LD. Some feedback.

Using mouse movement for both movement and cards is not an idea I am very fond of. I think the cards could be just bound to 123 keys and that would be fine.

Mouse sensitivity was through the roof and while I managed to play for 20 minutes, it was an issue for me. Full option menu is not a priority during the gamejam, but any kind of control over that would be gold.

I would love to see my stats on hud, as I could not tell if the cards gave me any boost or what.

There was also one part zombie who just wouldn't die. When I clicked it, no shot was fired, but blood splash would show up anyway, and it would not damage it as it never died.

At some point I managed to figure out the objective, but it would also be nice to have the hud tell me what to do. "Retrieve car parts from the zombies 0/10" -> I retrieve a part -> "Bring the part to the car" -> I bring the part -> "Retrieve car parts from the zombies 1/10".

These are the basic things I feel are missing right now. Other than that, well, I did play it for 20 minutes even being unable to finish it, so it is pretty enjoyable overall I must say. Keep up the good work!

Remote Cuddles by Kobrar 2018-04-23T22:25:34Z

@Alex13 It works fine on firefox for me, plus there are downloads for every platform.

Remote Cuddles by Kobrar 2018-04-24T00:23:00Z

@Blinkenlights Can I use that for promotional purposes? :)

Remote Cuddles by Kobrar 2018-04-30T03:34:08Z

@patrickgh3 Thank you so much for your input! Especially the bug report! That's what I get for ifelsing a state machine >:| It's a valuable lesson to know that there is logic you should never quick&dirty.

Remote Cuddles by Kobrar 2018-04-30T13:26:54Z

@Kainkun Lag is an often issue in the html5 version, you may consider downloading the game for best experience. Than you for playing!

Remote Cuddles by Kobrar 2018-05-05T20:04:36Z

@SHINBAXTER Your comment made my day! Thanks a lot! You are probably one of two people on this planet who finished it. Congrats!

Remote Cuddles by Kobrar 2018-08-03T21:25:04Z

I have launched a BetterLateThanNever update, check it out if you care. It should address some of the most serious concerns. Happy LD42 <3

BlowScape by Fleoh 2018-04-28T19:36:35Z

hscore.png I think it's cool. There are a lot of directions you can take this in. It's really hard to criticize without knowing your plans for it. As it is, it feels very complete. It's one of the most complete games this LD for sure.

FastMath by HOPgames 2018-04-23T22:23:40Z

I think the main mechanic doesn't work. Even at time 0, the score goes to opponent when I shoot. I tried before time, on time, after time. I managed to score exactly one time. And I'm good at maths.

The King of The Hill by Alex13 2018-05-05T20:17:17Z

At first I knew something was wrong. Controls are: click, double click, double click, IDLE? What the heck? After playing this, I can only state the obvious: this needs to be a party couch game :)

War Maker by David Boeger 2018-04-23T22:38:52Z

I absolutely love this game. Gameplay is very basic, true, but the theme? The sheer shameless cynicism is suprisingly appealing to me. I've found myself playing this multiple times, shipping 3,5k units at most and sentencing millions to death. So yeah, well done on the idea.

Bananalicious by Jesper K 2018-04-23T21:58:00Z

The camera shakes around way too much.I died twice not knowing what killed me, so damage feedback would also benefit from improvements. I feel the gameplay is also very restrictive, with limited space and only left or right shooting.

Candy! by Ratstail91 2018-04-23T21:41:23Z

My only complaint is that E doesn't look like an E. Otherwise, I think it's great.

The Royale We by Ashley Pringle 2018-04-23T21:06:38Z

I literally can't play it. The camera moves around, screen gets glitchy white occasionally, no controls seem to respond. How to play? The screenshot looks interesting.

Control Point Drift by TheRockRipper 2018-04-30T19:34:14Z

I think it's a pretty cool idea. You might want to support controllers for multiple players. The grass collision seems pretty unnecessary for me, there are better ways to discourage cutting corners, and since the game is pretty much map control, there can be additional incentive to stay on the road instead of just blocking the grass. All in all, I can simply see a lot of ways in which the game can be improved and expanded, which is called potential. I would be all for a more gimmicky racing party game. Hope to hear about this project in the future ;)

READY SET DRESS! by SHINBAXTER 2018-05-06T00:19:50Z

Bez nazwy.png

Okay, that WAS Jim Mode, but give me a break please, even then its not even trivial. Then I figured out the game and I've beat it on normal. Now I'm struggling with Crazy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1vC6fq0TMA

And I'm done.

I love how crazy the idea behind this game is :)

It takes some player dedication to crack the rules and strategy, but it sure is satisfying.

OPERATOR by Hello.Coder 2018-04-24T02:12:32Z

It's a shame you couldn't spare more time, but I really like the idea. I love the urgency of having to carefully type in the commands and would love to see this idea expanded. Best of luck with future projects!

OPERATOR by Hello.Coder 2018-05-16T01:55:48Z

Congrats on 22nd Mood! Totally deserved!

Carnage by EddyNeave 2018-04-24T16:26:49Z

Vehicular combat is always fine :) A lot of room for fututre developement. I really hope you do continue to work on the concept. There are way too few games like this.

SpaceFall by GNTX_LD_Lan_Party 2018-05-07T04:06:05Z

Oh, a Godot game! That's always nice to see! I like the competitive-cooperative premise and I would love to see some further developement in the future. It is a premise worth exploring. As for the game itself, aside from the fact that time was definitely not on your side, It took me a while to figure out that I need the boxes to repair the ship. If I had to gather parts looking a lot like the ship, it would be way more obvious.

Last Stand. [Web Play] by Darkwing00Duck 2018-05-05T23:07:54Z

I love the idea! Amount of content in the game is obviously small right now, but I really want this to be further developed! Best of luck.
