LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

The More You Make by TerraCottaFrog 2017-12-04T19:07:54Z

Haha, this is great. The explosions that end each game are my favorite part. There were a couple that were broken (pseudosnake in particular) and I couldn't get the pet one to work at all. I think it might be because I was playing the web version. Hilarious entry. Really impressed.

Money Is Everything by Jani Nykanen 2017-12-04T18:33:19Z

Nice job with the one-button interface. It's very satisfying when it's not impossible. I'm not sure how it conforms to the theme? Does anything change as I acquire my fat stacks?

Midori has a cold! by derr 2017-12-07T17:55:45Z

Clever game that reminds me of my childhood!

A Platformer for Ants by Elendow 2017-12-06T20:50:26Z

Nice job, clever concept. My best time was about 3 minutes.

Calorie by Terryd98 2017-12-04T04:02:24Z

I can't get past level 3! :( Well done though, cute animations and funny idea. Jumping is a little floaty.

Sofra by dietzribi 2017-12-05T00:36:16Z

Nice job! Really nice art style and solid platforming. The puzzle elements were well done as well. I didn't get to the ending, though. :( I'll have to come back to it after reviewing some other games.

Shoot off their lumps by pixeye 2017-12-07T17:25:31Z

Man... the art, atmosphere, and sound that's in is amazing. The beginnings of a great game are here. As it stands, I'm not sure how it fits the theme though.

Sum of Its Parts by mrjoshuamclean 2017-12-05T16:13:32Z

There is a core of good game here, but it's pretty broken right now. :P I got stuck in the top room a number of times (similar issue to IgorsGames, where the door would open briefly and snap shut). I would lose the game when I still had two or more lives, and took damage at seemingly random times. Also, the fold function doesn't work with the controller (on either version) and stopped working mid-game with the keyboard. I like the concept, though, and it fits the theme nicely.

Stacks by torfi 2017-12-04T18:50:28Z

Nice, simple, clean models. I too wish there were a stack counter.

Deadly Diver by Ethan Kennerly 2017-12-04T17:54:36Z

Fun concept. I got to the bottom with way too much treasure and no bubbles to return to the surface. Some kind of buoyancy meter would be really helpful so I can see how much I'll need to pick up to surface. Great assets, though some more animation would be a plus. Impressive work overall.

Elf Fortress by jormybb 2017-12-04T23:23:37Z

Wow, I'm impressed. Really well done and quite fun. I'm not sure how more is worse, though. More elves = harder to manage?

The lost strawberry by egordorichev 2017-12-04T23:48:39Z

First, great job. The game is, for the most part, really well done. The sprites look good, the sound is nice, and the mood is great. I had a really hard time with the controls, though. The first jump was really finicky until I figured out that I jumped further by holding up. I had a very hard time determining what I could jump on and what I should be collecting. I don't think I made it far enough to judge the theme relevance.

Dark Space 8 by SaraJS 2017-12-05T23:28:42Z

Nice, there's a lot here! I died early a number of times to large groups of soldiers, but once I was established with a party it was easy going. Awesome entry.

Fox Flares by aeveis 2017-12-04T18:39:32Z

Really well done! I got to checkpoint 7 before ragequitting. It is quite difficult, especially the single block platforms... I would really like an option to restart from the last checkpoint without waiting for the heat meter to fill.

Operator by Viperfish9 2017-12-04T05:18:45Z

Interesting concept. The dialogue is fun. My current funds stopped appearing in the shop after day 2. Great job, there's a lot of replayability here.

SUPER COP HERO by Finlal 2017-12-05T18:35:49Z

It's so hard! Amazing entry though. Fantastic art and programming. I wish I could take two or three hits...

Dog-Off! by BrothersT 2017-12-06T17:01:29Z

Great idea, great controls, great artwork. Wow, really well executed.

The Exalted by Flubz 2017-12-04T22:06:50Z

Well done! That's a clever use of the theme. I actively avoided speed upgrades though, as they seemed to do more harm than good. I stopped trying to avoid bullets and just tried to kill the core before I killed myself... which proved an effective strategy.

Knights and Kings by Chaosinism 2017-12-04T04:22:53Z

I killed my own king! It's strange that units are killed while on the move; I feel like it would be a little easier to plan if it only happened when they were still.

Of a Feather by Gumboot 2017-12-05T18:28:18Z

Excellent entry. Very well thought-out and executed. I would prefer a little more difficulty, but that's down to personal preference.

Super Consumerism Sim 2K17: GOTY Edition by EX3D0 2017-12-04T18:21:18Z

Well, I'm severely in debt now. I wish it told me what my "high score" was at the end. Sprites were nice. The purchase sound is super loud. I'm not sure exactly why it's worse for me to spend more or to have more, except that I'm accruing debt. Some kind of goal would be nice, even if it's just told to me through text.

Bugburgh by frankiesmileshow 2017-12-10T01:23:21Z

Wow, I played that a lot longer than I intended. Really great work. I would like to have separate buttons for interacting and telling a bug to follow.

Sanguinite by Wheffle 2017-12-20T00:23:47Z

Nice work! Good use of the theme and well-balanced (especially for compo).

Sunken by Tay 2017-12-04T18:28:12Z

Took me a bit to figure out who I was and how to move. Had a good time once I figured that out. I kept dying for reasons I couldn't discern. Maybe it flooded and I didn't notice. Well done sprites and sound. Well done overall!

Get Out - LD40 by lcrabbit 2017-12-07T17:46:09Z

Nice use of the theme with conflicting motivations to grab coins. Pixel art is nice and minimal, which is great.

Untouched by Virtual Turtle Studio 2017-12-04T18:14:02Z

Nice assets, with a strange dichotomy between my furious clicking and the idyllic setting. Ran surprisingly well even as I spammed trees everywhere. Nice job with the LODs. Definitely needs a goal of some sort, besides the implied one of flattening all the buildings and replacing them with trees.

Worm It Up by Arthur Amorim 2017-12-04T03:33:43Z

Snake definitely went thought my head when the theme was announced. Not much for the innovation category, but it works well, is fun to play, and the post effects look nice. Well done!

Infestus by Handle 2017-12-04T04:07:12Z

@eerongal @baknik Ugh, I forgot you have to package the .dll in the zip file now. Fixed. Check it out again if you get a chance.

Infestus by Handle 2017-12-04T04:58:42Z

@evandowning That is indeed the end. Looks like it was a collider and not a trigger... I was scrambling there at the end :P I fixed it, but in the interest of the jam I'll leave it as is for now. As consolation, I shall replicate the end screen here: "Victory!" Thanks for checking it out.

Infestus by Handle 2017-12-05T00:16:45Z

@mess110 yeah... the ending is broken in the compo version. I have an updated version with a number of fixes if you want to see the incredible ending (it's not). @Colisan, @Killnaprime, @mess110, @lawrence, I have changed the movement speed and weight mechanic for the updated version on itch.

Thanks for the feedback so far everyone!

Cemetery Chore by Colisan 2017-12-05T17:00:08Z

Ha, I win! Nice job! Overall I liked it a lot. I have a couple gripes, though. I would often trigger a dash accidentally when trying to kite enemies and the priests at the end are a little unbalanced in that they have infinite dash.

Npigs by 6smith 2017-12-04T23:15:22Z

Nice job! Solid, clean graphics. Great concept for the theme. I wish there were a little more friction on the platforms; it felt a bit slidey to me. I might just suck, though.

Populous by Astavie 2017-12-22T00:27:42Z

I had a lot of fun with this one! The sense of progression is really nice, and it fits the theme well.

(MAAB) Mistakes Are Actually Bad by dimaswift 2017-12-04T18:45:15Z

The models for the ships and the characters are really excellent, as is the slicing mechanic. I'm not sure what it has to do with the theme, though?

One Matter by toboggan 2017-12-04T04:38:39Z

Very interesting idea. The animations and flat shading look really nice. The controls are a bit frustrating, but the concept is strong.

Friends and Monsters by Killnaprimer 2017-12-04T17:59:25Z

Fits the theme nicely. Nice, clean graphics. Really needs sound! I think a bigger playing field would be helpful, as it would extend the ramp up to impossibility and give the player a little more agency in avoiding enemies early on.

BURROWED TIME by endesga 2017-12-04T06:07:47Z

Well, holy shit. This is fantastic.

SHROOOMS by theloneplant 2017-12-04T05:32:49Z

Nice graphics and audio. The gameplay fits the theme well, and works mostly as I'd expect... I had a really hard time with the inverted aiming, though. Playing on the controller is a must, imo.

MORE BLOOD by generalvivi 2017-12-04T23:09:04Z

Clever idea, well executed for the most part. The flashing screen shader was a bit much, though I like it in concept. Maybe if the color change was a little more subtle it would be less seizure-ific.

One Million Dollars by Luxorix Games 2017-12-04T03:51:37Z

Haha, really well executed game. I like the scaling recreation. I was expecting that it would be easier to make more money once I had a decent amount, but it didn't seem to be the case. The music was pretty pumpin', but I wish the loop was longer. Graphics were really well done. Good job!

Hydronaut by terakorp 2017-12-04T23:38:17Z

Really nice work on the graphics and sound. Gameplay is simple and fun, reminds me of Downwell a bit. Not sure what the relation is to the theme, but great work.

Rogue-Light by SilvervaleGames 2017-12-04T04:31:00Z

Nice use of the theme. Great pixel art and solid controls. I do with the halls were a little wider... it seems like there is only one way into the room sometimes and those pesky ghosts are just chilling in my way. Great job. Really impressive.

Me, Myself, And I by NabilAtSoulcade 2017-12-05T17:33:10Z

The very basics are there, with movement and firing working nicely. All I did was stand in one place and mow them down while the framerate tanked though. :P

LD42 — Running out of space

Bag of Devouring by Ilseroth 2018-08-13T03:21:37Z

Really great models and animation. I had a hard time getting the dragging and dropping mechanic to work correctly.

Get Comfortable by mcccclean 2018-08-13T03:19:36Z

This is really clever and fits the theme quite well. I love the graphics and sound, and all of the different position bonuses.

proxibomb by blackoptics8 2018-08-14T00:16:48Z

I really like the graphics and the proximity mechanics, it's very intuitive and fun to play. Is there a lose condition, or do I just keep going until I am satisfied with my score?

Stack Overflow by Erasmus Crowley 2018-08-13T03:27:06Z

Everything works well technically, but it is pretty difficult to navigate. It would be awesome to be able to rotate the whole field around to get a better sense of the state of the game. I like the idea you had for the music speed changing with the blocks.

TINY TOWNS by BearishMushroom 2018-08-13T03:38:55Z

I feel pretty stupid, but I couldn't figure out the first puzzle :-/. Beautiful artwork and really clever design though.

Ultimate Heat Death by croze 2018-08-13T03:06:21Z

I really like the climbing mechanics! It did fail to latch on a couple times, but overall it was really interesting.

The Flesh Pit by frankiesmileshow 2018-08-13T03:30:29Z

Great idea for running out of space! I love the artwork and the weapon mechanics. I wish I could set it to fullscreen, as it was tiny on my monitor. Is there a way to do that?

S.P.A.C.E. Module Collectors by AdroitConceptions 2018-08-13T23:33:56Z

I win! It's great to have a true ending to an LD game.

Nice job. The procgen works really well (if a bit limited in variety). The difficulty is well-balanced, challenging but not frustrating. I would suggest having a deadzone for the joysticks; mine is a little loose and always moved the camera a little even when I wasn't touching it at all. The voice acting was very amusing as well :-P

Rampart by Jeremy Ryan 2018-08-12T23:15:36Z

Wow, great pixel art! Clever mechanics as well, that's a great way for us to be able to claim some space back. Really well thought through, good job.

Crystalmancer by Crowno 2018-08-13T03:34:02Z

Fantastic art and music! I had a hard time using the hammer, and couldn't seem to get very far, but I am really impressed with the polish on the assets.

DE/VOID by randomphantom 2018-08-13T15:47:29Z

This is a fantastic idea. I love the minimal aesthetic and the gameplay is so clever. I also appreciate that they stop at size 42. Honestly, this could be a great mobile game or something (though the controls might be a bit difficult to figure out). I could see this growing into something even better. Definitely one of the most enjoyable games I've found so far. Well done!

Surrounded by Traffle 2018-08-13T23:39:42Z

Nice and polished for such a short dev time! I am particularly fond of the little indicators that appear on the edges to show where enemies will spawn. My only major gripe is that it's really easy to click out of the screen, especially since the page color is the same (or really close) to the background color of the game.

Emissary by Handle 2018-08-12T23:29:31Z

@sdrrv Thanks! I was pretty happy with it. @secretstage Thank you for checking it out, glad it ran well.

Emissary by Handle 2018-08-12T23:35:41Z

@chillen Thanks! Great to hear it! I think some more tutorial content would have helped people figure it out, but you know... compo.

Emissary by Handle 2018-08-13T04:24:12Z

@4thwallstudios You only get a score when you complete a planet, failure is worth nothing! :-P

Emissary by Handle 2018-08-13T04:25:08Z

@smilewood Okay, good to know about the web version. It runs fine on my machine, but I was hesitant to even put it up in case it ran poorly. The downloads should run much better of course. Also, I wanted you to be able to control your hover altitude, so that was my reasoning for the double press.

Emissary by Handle 2018-08-13T18:19:34Z

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I just found an unfortunate bug where the movement is dependent on framerate... I'll add an updated version and label it accordingly. If the game was moving super quickly that's why.

Emissary by Handle 2018-08-14T03:41:53Z

@nam-nguyen The first control for each action is for the controller, the second is for the keyboard. I should have made that more clear. There is music!

@detectivelosos Your score at the end of the level is based on how quickly you win, so that's why the dash is there.

@gmanadvanced Thanks for playing! Sorry about the control conflict between Emissary and Chrome... that's unfortunate.

Emissary by Handle 2018-08-14T14:14:32Z

@nam-nguyen Oh sorry, I thought you meant no music in general. There is indeed no title screen music.

@mza I'm afraid you'll be disappointed, because the physics are entirely cheated lol. Also it is not documented at all. But if it's helpful that's awesome!

Bunny Bazooka by MZA 2018-08-14T00:20:29Z

Interesting aesthetics and functional gameplay, though I had a hard time determining which direction I would go in when I pushed up or down. I think the little mini-tutorial at the beginning was really clever!

Misadventures of Crowley Flatcheeks by detectiveLosos 2018-08-14T01:26:47Z

This was great! I really liked the characters, and it gave me some SCUMM vibes for sure. I do wish I could move a bit faster, but otherwise I don't have many gripes! I am the Space Duke! Well done.

Get Comfortable by Chillen 2018-08-13T02:43:40Z

Haha, this is a really clever idea. I relate intensely to this game. It did seems like I could get stuck in certain positions, but I suppose that's not completely unrealistic. Good work!

Construction Pit by TheSomeoneXD 2018-08-14T04:13:03Z

Great setup, graphics, and concept! I gave up after I got stuck on a box, but I'll come back tomorrow and get that bastard.

The Best Internet Experience by Hugo kieffer 2018-08-14T00:27:00Z

Great nostalgic graphics. Love the ads you came up with. I'd love to have some sort of score, though it would be more a test of endurance than anything else lol.

Survirus by AdultLink 2018-08-14T04:26:05Z

Very clever game! The graphics are fantastic and the gameplay is great after I figured it out. I did seem to get stuck on some squares when moving quickly and was unable to move for a bit. I'm not sure if that's an intended mechanic, but if so I didn't understand how I triggered it.

The UI and menu design are super clean and satisfying.

Touch The Thingy by coachsisyphus 2018-08-12T23:04:21Z

Haha, was pleasantly surprised to receive dolphins!

Sharp Moss by katuiche 2018-08-12T23:09:48Z

I really like the destruction mechanic, and the diminishing level space fits the theme nicely! I had a hard time reading some of the text and had a few weird collision bugs, but you did a great job!

Count your Steps (or you will run out of space) by Akros 2018-08-13T03:42:49Z

Great job with the modeling! There are some good levels as well. I do wish there were a way to restart the current level (if there is let me know!).

Zero G Hero by dave_troyer 2018-08-13T23:56:26Z

Great art and animation and interesting concept, though I think you may be stretching the theme a bit here :-P I think the gamepad controls are broken, I couldn't attack, slide or crouch. It took me a while to get a hang of the keyboard layout, but it worked pretty well once I did. I had a hard time getting enough distance to land my projectile attacks, and got stuck on corners occasionally. I'm impressed with the number of mechanics you got working (wall grab, slide, crawl, charge shot, etc.).

Armageddon by Swess 2018-08-13T04:01:16Z

Nice job! The graphics are really interesting, and the mechanics are solid. I think perhaps the fire spreads a bit too fast, but that's subjective.

The City Of Forgotten Toys by dk5000p 2018-08-14T00:11:03Z

Lol, the music is amusing if a bit grating. Because the toys spawn randomly, it didn't seem like there was any need for me to go to the platforms at all, making it super easy to get a bunch of toys. I happened to see your game on stream so I knew to jump on the mayor's head, but otherwise that's not very clear. I'm not sure what it has to do with running out of space?

The City Of Forgotten Toys by dk5000p 2018-08-14T00:49:52Z

@dk5000p Ah, I see. Yeah, I had muted it by the time I got to the mayor. My bad, I should have double checked. I'll run through again.

LD42 Running out of Space by Gary Beebe 2018-08-13T03:57:48Z

The little voxel models are adorable, and everything seems to work as expected. I think that my armor can go into negative values though, as it took a long time to add anything to the meter after I lost it.

Void Eater by Dongle 2018-08-14T00:01:26Z

Amazing artwork and animation. Seriously impressive. I could not figure out how to damage the main enemy at all, though. This has a ton of potential.

Secret Knight by shinysteel 2018-08-13T03:50:40Z

Wow, I love the aesthetics of this game! The gameplay ideas are really clever and well thought-out, but I had a hard time getting the walls to behave the way I expected. I'm never sure where they'll be placed. That being said, I love that you can rotate them after placement.

Dessert War by Krapht 2018-08-14T02:27:23Z

I love the art! And (once I figured out the rules) I had a great time dominating the field of desserts.

Space Invasion by Nam Nguyen 2018-08-14T00:47:19Z

This is really, really well done. There are some bugs (I got stuck on the boss level) but the writing, camera work, delivery, and progression of skills is amazing. Seriously, with some polish this could be great.

WASH UR BALLZ by SteamPunkProgrammer 2018-08-21T02:19:13Z

I think there is a core of a good game here, but I have a bit of constructive criticism:

-It was very difficult to determine where I would land. I think this is a bit of a camera problem; perhaps you could tilt it down slightly in proportion to my current jump height.

-Speaking of jumping, I felt like I had very little control over it in general. I would love to be able to stop ascending by releasing jump.

-I wasn't sure what the goal was. I could infer that I needed to prevent the stadium from being painted red, but am I supposed to jump on the balls as well? It leaves a little marker of some sort when I do, so it felt like something I should be doing. Because I didn't bounce on them, however, I was penalized for trying.

-Encountering the edge of the map sends me catapulting back toward the center, regardless of my speed upon hitting it. Then I would inevitably hit a ball, which was frustrating. I think it would work better to have the wall recoil be proportional to your current speed, and perhaps reflect your angle of motion as well.

Blueberry Adventure by aaron horrar 2018-08-14T03:54:34Z

Nice looking game with intuitive controls. I found the camera controls a bit frustrating, but I enjoyed playing!

Lab by Kristov 2018-08-12T22:41:54Z

Interesting idea, and I like the visuals. I wish I could hold the arrow keys to move, as I'm very impatient and will destroy my wrists playing this. :-P

OverEncumbered by darklab 2018-08-14T04:37:39Z

This was a really well thought out combination of mechanics! Pick things up to fill you inventory, but they slow you down and have various values. In combination with the encroaching saw, you implemented the theme in a couple ways. Nice!

The graphics are really well done too, and I'm especially fond of the blood splatter (though it does cause some frame hiccups for me).

Home by Grogge 2018-08-12T23:00:39Z

Great work for such a fast turnaround! Every round only lasted about 30 seconds for me though, as the space runs out extremely quickly.

OUT by joompoof 2018-08-14T00:33:28Z

I really like the art for the title page and main character. I wish the camera were a little closer so I could see it better. I also wish it would restart me from the level I just failed on instead of the first level. The dash could use a transition animation, but I understand jam constraints. Great job finishing and submitting!

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Bullet Break by JCMonkey 2018-04-23T19:29:19Z

Great entry, with a few flaws. I would like to see fewer bullets to keep track of (I think you could still have 10-20 on screen) and predictable bouncing.

Toodee and Topdee by dietzribi 2018-04-23T19:59:02Z

Uh, wow. This is extremely clever. Hats off to you.

Bunny Derps by mintarcade 2018-04-23T19:50:02Z

I'm really impressed with all the systems you got in place! I gave you pretty extensive feedback on the stream, so I'll avoid retyping it here. Thanks for joining me in the stream and for submitting your game!

Prototypes and Dust by AdroitConceptions 2018-04-23T02:15:32Z

This is a really interesting concept. You really did a great job mixing the genres you chose here! Visually, though you're using primitives the color choices make it very clear what functionality I should expect from each object. Well done there. From a playability standpoint, it would have been nice to have a greater render distance in the first person mode.

Delve by riordan 2018-04-23T20:57:07Z

Great fun after I figured it out, but not very intuitive at first. I do wish it could be resized!

Pinplat by svyatozar 2018-04-23T21:29:45Z

This is a brilliant start to a game! I would love to have more flippers so that I feel a bit more in control. Great idea!

RPG Shop by Lawrence 2018-04-23T20:28:37Z

I really, really enjoyed this game. Thank you for submitting it to the stream! Had a great time hanging out and getting all the acheivements!

Dyeswap by morphine 2018-04-23T21:14:44Z

Really great idea with a ton of content! I loved the They Live references.

GuitarPicks by Solnak 2018-04-23T16:21:45Z

Great pixel art and theme! I feel like I could take some old people in a fist fight though...

PongCraft by meskaline 2018-04-23T20:41:50Z

Great idea! I had a good time with this one, thanks for submitting it to the stream. I think sound would add a lot, and I wish the ball wouldn't completely reset speed after it goes out of bounds.

Hungry Hungry Shippos by Joe Sycalik 2018-04-23T17:02:15Z

FEATHER THE GUN! Shooting decreases your size, so be careful. This was really quite fun, and I played it for longer than most entries. Well done, and thanks for posting to the stream!

Deep Soul(TurnbasedPlatform) by Franz 2018-04-23T19:17:22Z

My only major complaint is that I wish the position would restart from your last "live" position, rather than at the beginning of the level. Interesting concept, works quite well in practice.

Stealth Casual Farming Simulator by RadioactiveRambo 2018-04-23T16:53:15Z

It was a little difficult to tell when I was hidden from the wolves. All the mechanics work predictably and are implemented well, so good job! I know you're aware, but there is a crash bug occasionally.

Card Kart by Skyc 2018-04-23T16:42:01Z
