i allways imagine this type of things in bed seeing this in game feels so good and feels something connected love the work of your team .. sounds are so peace full really great work .

deathray 2018-08-14 01:25

That was an excellent game! Dare I say one of the top Ludum Dare games I've ever played. I loved the plot and graphics. I enjoyed that it feels somewhat urgent - what with the planet blowing up and all - but still peaceful. I'm very thankful you didn't make it a timed. A few nit-picks: The rotation speed is way too fast; I wish I could get a better view of the pieces of planet flying into space because it was beautiful; I didn't like how the character slides away from people while talking to them.

handle 2018-08-14 01:26

This was great! I really liked the characters, and it gave me some SCUMM vibes for sure. I do wish I could move a bit faster, but otherwise I don't have many gripes! I am the Space Duke! Well done.

thesomeonexd 2018-08-14 02:04

This game was really calming, yet urgent. I sort of ended up running away from the fishing rod, but after I got that, it was really nice. You get the calm from the walking around to your destination, mindless while looking at the weird, round planet. You also get the urgency because you know the planet's falling apart and everyone's leaving, and you know you need to go to. The graphics look awesome, and I wish I knew how to do that. I love this 3D retro style.

erebus 2018-08-14 06:10

Really charming game. Great job! Thanks for showing the stream as always!

alexey-akulovich 2018-08-14 10:35

Very cool! The game has memorable visual style. Voices reminded the game "Neverhood", and they are nice to listen to. Great work.

pamoy 2018-08-14 11:11

Awesome game =)

squaredev 2018-08-14 11:27

I liked this one. Moving the camera while in bird-view gave some... interesting results. Fun and charming, very comfy atmosphere and music. :v:

smiley 2018-08-14 15:57

What a lovely game! The 3D views, voxel trees and the billboarded sprites in a lovely combination. The sensitity of the mouse looking was a bit too high before I got used to it.

mobiusdisco 2018-08-14 16:36

It hurts to already know who the winners of LD are. I really had a blast and the combo of 2d and 3d is really an aesthetic I long for.

adrianfl 2018-08-14 17:47

I totally loved this game. The graphics are amazing, the art style is wonderful, the game is charming, relaxing very original.

The only improvement I would add is a better ending animation or image, because after all the game and the sense of almost not being able to made it, the final picture is not that good as the rest of the game. But overall one of the best games I played so far, if not the best.

bootak 2018-08-14 22:08

Wow! This game is very atmospheric! I love the music, art, and especially take on theme and overall mood this game creates!

detectivelosos 2018-08-15 04:54

First of all, thank you everybody who played, rated and especially ones who wrote a comment. We appreciate it a lot and are glad that our game gave you at least some minutes of joy and entertainment.

@deathray It is actually timed. It's just a very long timer and it is also structured that all the key islands and paths between them wont float away until the very last moment. So you can actually loose if you are not fast enough. Camera issues appear to happen on a framerate dips. Normally it's all smooth and lets you precisely rotate it around. As for the sliding issue it appeared right away on the first day. We considered it to be not so urgent of a problem to solve in all scheme of things and in the end (as always on these jams) had no time to get back to it. Thank you very much for playing and also for your feedback.

@smiley Thank you for playing and glad you enjoyed your time spent with our game. The sensitivity issue seems to happen when your framerate is not quite stable. It is likely caused by the camera using deltaTime between frames and position of the objects that are in turn rotating to face the camera in its position calculation. So under normal circumstances it would behave differently. Thank you for reporting this. I'll try to fix it if we decide to make a postjam version with all the things we had in mind for this game but had no time to develop.

@mobiusdisco Thank you very much for such a high rating in regards to our game, but there surely are better and far more polished ones out there. But still it really gives us this warming and pleasant feeling that people enjoyed our creation and that all the love and hard work we put in was totally worth it.

@adrianfl Thank you for the feedback. Yes, I agree that the ending is somewhat underwhelming. But during the last hours we decided that it's better to put at least some trees, plants and rocks on the planet surface so it wont look as empty and barebones than doing proper ending cutscene. Maybe it was not the right call, but I still think that it's far better to have a nicer looking major part of the experience than some element that the players will watch only once for a brief period of time. But again thank you very much for your feedback. Glad you liked our little creation.

fireslash 2018-08-15 06:12

Love the art style!

Mouselook sensitivity felt really high, though this can be hard to get right.

dark-prince-zen 2018-08-15 10:32

Awesome game. Love the audio and art. Such a simple mechanic but addictive to play. Fits the theme perfectly as well. Good work.

superqgs 2018-08-15 12:31

Best game I've played of LD42 hands down. The first time I played I really just explored until I died, and then I actually beat it lol. Something I might suggest is front and back sprites for the main character, although what you did is already phenomenal.

adrianfl 2018-08-15 15:53

@detectivelosos Your welcome! Well, in that situation I think I would have done the same, the vegetation was nice and made the planet feel more...well, a planet. So sad you didn't had time to add both, but anyway is still probably the best game I played so far.

krystekku 2018-08-15 17:05

What a lovely design. And this sounds of talking were funny  . Good work!

pixelshorts 2018-08-15 17:52

I enjoyed playing this. The graphics are really charming and the idea is well done. Not gonna lie. I didn't finish it as I wanted to look at some other bits but I'll likely return to this at some point to finish it off. My only criticism is the open world seemed very empty. Just having a few little animals or something would have made the world feel more alive.

mashas 2018-08-15 22:30

This was quite the unique experience! The excellent use of different graphic styles made me think of Evoland. Great mood and humor!

Possible spoilers ahead for anyone who haven't played it yet (stop reading this comment and go download!)

I went the wrong way immediately, off to explore with my fancy fishing rod! Sadly, I did not find the lake until after planet pieces started flying into space. After that I kind of knew what to do and where to go but I was unable to make up for the time I lost in the beginning. My final moments were spent together with my first and best friend Pit on his porch, overlooking the apocalypse from front row.

I would have liked to be able to run around in birds eye view but maybe that would have made it too easy? During my play I did not have any of the problems with the controls that some people have reported. I used the windows executable with no apparent issues.

Great job team! :owl: :spy: What a gem of a game (and that title... :D).

Stay awesome @detectivelosos :medal:

annie-owl 2018-08-15 22:48

@FireSlash Thank you. Yeah, high mouse sensitivity is actually a bug. We will try to fix it.

@dark-prince-zen Thank you!

@superqgs Actually, that's a nice suggestion, thank you. If we will be able to overcome our laziness we will definitely add main character back sprite.

@krystekku Thank you. We were trying to do something new with the sounds every LD, but I don't know if we would be able to come up with something new on the next one.

@pixelshorts Yeah, we wanted to add some more buildings and even some easter eggs on empty parts of the planet, but we ran out of time. Maybe we will add some sprite birds and squirrels in the future. Thank you for your feedback.

@mashas We decided to disable movement in birdview because most people would have just used it throughout the entire game experience and missed on all the wacky characters and models. We were going to add light markers, to highlight all of the points of interest and the main character, but ran out of time and haven't implemented it. Thanks alot for your feedback.

ceasar 2018-08-16 08:09

Musics pretty good but i can't play it. All i see is a black screen, with a small blue square to the top left of the screen (but not in the corner) and the FPS counter. Im playing the web version by the way

annie-owl 2018-08-16 08:35

@ceasar That's really strange. Is it completely pitch black, or is it some weird textures? Maybe camera just stuck in the planet? Can you please send us your browser's log?

corbak 2018-08-16 09:07

This is crazy! Such an original idea! I really like the concep. Also the cool little music as the world crumble down makes a really fun atmosphere XD

alexrose 2018-08-16 09:09

The graphic style on this is so dope, I looove the camera work and the blend of 2D and 3D. The gameplay's dope as well. I can see this one doing really, really well. Congrats guys, you made a v. cool game.

randdir 2018-08-16 09:54

Actually love the gameplay and graphics, unfortunatly really don't like the music (too repeating but guess it's an own compo). But this is a really good entry. Keep it up team !

poffle 2018-08-16 13:01

What a charming little game! I loved everything about it. The characters, the design, the chunks flying off is awesome and a great use of theme. I'd like to see more of Crowley Flatcheeks!

vivek-sharma20 2018-08-16 13:21

Graphics and audio are amazing, I like the small world idea. Gameplay was a bit slow...it takes too much time for hte player to move ... probably change walk to run when you continue pressing the button?

cristihkj 2018-08-16 15:42

Good job! :D

cassio-eduardo 2018-08-16 18:24

Adventure games are not my cup of tea, but this is really well made (graphics, audio, controls). The camera gave me a bit of trouble and I wish you could control the player while zoomed out.

Great job.

ratherjolly 2018-08-16 18:37

I love the 2d/3d mashups! You have a lot of mechanics in this game that work really well together. Only thing I would change is the flying camera, apart from that, this game was freaking charming! Well done! xD

thunderawesome 2018-08-16 20:21

Not a fan of fetch quest stuff, but this had an interesting pressure to it. The world is literally falling apart. So, it made it more challenging trying to collect all the stuff I needed. I may have messed up and replaced the crowbar with the crank piece...so I didn't know what to do after that.

But, yeah the 3D/2D art mash up was pretty cool. And the dialog voices are funny.

annie-owl 2018-08-17 11:56

@thunderawesome How have you managed to do that? It's possible to break the glass door with both crowbar and hand-crank, but you can't lose crowbar as far as I'm concerned (unlike hand crank, winch disappears when you use it).

hauo 2018-08-17 14:08

Lovely game! The mood was spot on, was surprised that in the end it was a game about meeting characters and doing very simple "fetch-and-use" adventure-mechanics all while seeing the very world crumbling around you, making you have to not only focus on the "puzzles" but also where to navigate. It was a good balance and logical solutions to everything, making you always know what too try next.

My only dislike was that the dialogue presentation was a bit messy, I basically had to zoom in to even see what they where saying, at the same time the choice menu was still the same size, just did not look "right". One solution would have been to have the camera auto-zoom so that the dialogue-bubble become the same size as the button-text then zoom-back out, or just increase the size of the dialogue-bubble if zoomed-out. I like the first idea better, as then we also get a better LOOK at the characters themselves, I was always zoomed-out so could not really see there design that well.

Was very fun to play. Hope to see more :)

annie-owl 2018-08-17 14:31

@corbak Thank you! That's what we were going for with this game: funny and a little bit surreal atmosphere.

@alexrose That's some dope feedback, dude. Thank ya!

@randdir That's actually funny how the music for our previous entries was something like 3-4 minutes long tracks, while the games were 1-2 minutes long at best. And this time we were able to make 8-20 minutes long game, but the soundtrack is 1.3 minutes long loop. You can't have time for everything i guess. Thank you for your feedback.

@poffle Thank you! We are not sure if we are going to do something more with this game except some bug fixes, quality of life changes and other polishing stuff. But maybe one day we'll hear about great empire of Space-Duke Crowley Flatcheeks.

@vivek-sharma20 That's strange, we thought character speed was just perfect  Maybe we will add some options for that. Thank you for your feedback.

@cristihkj Thank you!

@cassio-eduardo If it was able to control the character in zoomed out mode everyone would have been using it through the entire game and missed out on character designs and buildings

@ratherjolly Yeah, there are some problems with camera sensitivity. We are planning to fix this. Thank you for your feedback.

@hauo Damn, that's meaty feedback message. I wish I could write those  Yeah, I also didn't really like how our dialogues ended up looking, but haven't got any time to fix it. And we were actually planning to make zoom in and out mechanic while in dialogues and in buildings, but ran out of time. Thanks a lot for such informative feedback!

cassio-eduardo 2018-08-17 14:41

@annie-owl I didn't fault the game for that, but it would be the perfect feature to compensate for my poor orientation skills  .

annie-owl 2018-08-17 14:44

@cassio-eduardo Yeah, orienting with this map is a little bit tricky. We wanted to add light markers for the main character and all points of interest, but haven't got enough time for that.

wetbox 2018-08-17 19:03

It was wonderfull experience. Just incredible atmosphere combined with unusual graphics. Music perfectly fits for the situation and creates a great mood. Of course, I went through the game to the end and flew away with Pit from this doomed planet. One of the best entry on this jam.

pickens-inc 2018-08-17 19:05

Really lovely entry guys, well done! I loved seeing the planet come apart like that, it was super impressive, and uh made for fun times navigating and having to chagne routes. The mixing of 2D and 3D is hard to pull off, but i think you guys did so very well, and the sprites were really cute.

Minor niggles included the hypersensitivity of the camera panning, the dialogue boxes requiring the zoom and the fact that you slid around all the time which was a little jarring, but none of those were deal breakers at all.

I really like games were you're meeting a bunch of different characters, and it all came together really nicely, the mumbles adding that bit more life to it all. It would have been nice if we got a bit more decoration around the planet and perhaps some more landmarks, but the entry itself was very really nice and complete, very well done, and thanks for hanging out on stream!

paulie-b 2018-08-17 21:05

Best graphics I've seen so far. It's hard to replace models with sprites but you pulled it off. However, some things could be improved. First of all, the camera is way too sensitive. Also, the large open world is cool, but it needs more stuff to be interesting. Ultimately cool game though, good job!

annie-owl 2018-08-17 21:18

@wetbox Thank you!

@pickens-inc Thanks again for playing our game and leaving such wonderful feedback!

@paulie-b Yeah, we would try to find some time and work on those problems. Problem with camera sensitivity is addressed a lot in the comments and emptiness of the world caused by the lack of time. Thank you for your feedback!

pickens-inc 2018-08-17 21:24

You're most welcome, thanks again for hanging out!

zicboy 2018-08-18 08:43

Awesome game! I enjoy the art and mood of it. Keep up the good work!

local-minimum 2018-08-18 11:01

really well made game. I like how the ground texture got glitchy as pieces started to break off. I managed to get to the end and it was fun all the way. The challenges came kind of naturally, which was nice. The camera control on the mouse was a bit hard to control though. It was really easy to have it spin half way around and get lost as to what direction I was heading. The other small issue was the timing of dialogue options. Well actually they weren't option, but just your replies (I think), and it made it a little odd that they appeared at the same time as the NPC started to talk. And since my option was much larger. It was often that I read my reply before I read what they were saying. So I would suggest having dialogues from the player appear in sequence to the NPC dialogues. However, in general, a very well made and good game.

shadoninja 2018-08-18 13:49

Fun game! I couldn't tell if the world breaking apart was due to time or if it was event-driven. Not sure which is better. There was one bug that actually got on my nerves. While talking to people, you have the chance to slowly slide away and end the dialog short. This happened to me twice! Really cool aesthetic. I have never seen anything like this stylistically, so huggge kudos for that. Great job!

annie-owl 2018-08-18 17:28

@zicboy Thank you. We glad you liked it.

@local-minimum Yeah, the dialogue system ended up looking messy. Mostly because of time constraints and our disability to scope the size of the project from the very beginning. We wanted to add some puzzles in dialogues, where you should choose the right answer, but ran out of time. We would work on it if we find some time to do the polishing of the project. Thanks a lot for checking out our game and leaving feedback.

@shadoninja Yes, planet breaking is timed. You have about 18 minutes before it's too late and it falls apart completely. We know about sliding bug and know how frustrating it is to talk to NPCs because of it. But it happens due to the radial gravity that we implemented, and we were not able to fix it during the jam time. And I don't even know if we would be working on it during project polishing. Maybe improving the dialogue system and increasing active area of the dialog would change the situation to better. Thank you for your feedback!

kapiteinkoekwous 2018-08-18 21:47

Hey there! This game was played on www.twitch.tv/arjendesign just now! Great entry!

annie-owl 2018-08-19 19:09

@kapiteinkoekwous Thanks a lot for showing our game on stream!

saoi-games 2018-08-20 04:36

Thank you for sharing your game with me. I played it on my stream tonight at https://www.twitch.tv/saoigames

I have rated your game, but all of my feedback was captured in the stream. It was in the middle.

You can hear my comments in the archive at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/299357576?t=03h21m58s

rodrigo-denubila 2018-08-20 13:19

I really loved this. That was an excellent take on the theme, very well done. Loved the art style. Good job!

annie-owl 2018-08-21 07:57

@saoi-games Thanks a lot for covering our game! Sorry for all the trouble our control scheme gave you. We will try to make it more flexible next time.

@rodrigo-denubila Thank you!

glaciereclipse 2018-08-21 08:18

Wow!! This game is phenomenal, such a unique gorgeous style together with great story and funny dialogue. Truly amazing entry, well done!

saoi-games 2018-08-21 08:21

@annie-owl Don't worry about it. I hope that the feedback was helpful so that you can make a better post LD version. UI is hard in games, and often its the people that are closest to the game that can't see the tricky parts because they understand the game so well.

It is why there will always be a need for playtesters.

mza 2018-08-21 12:57

Its quite cool that you made a game of that calibre able to run on a web browser at a constant 60fps. The birds eye view and transition are amazing. The aesthetics are nice. It totally fits the theme but i never felt I was running out of space.

Some ideas for future update: -- Fill the empty green earth space with trees, flowers, NPC etc... - make it more populated. -- introduce vehicles for whizzing across to the other side of earth.

I admire the coding done to create this. I wouldn't mind learning.

annie-owl 2018-08-21 21:05

@crneumre Thank you!

@mza Thank you for your feedback and for the ideas! I hope we would find some time to write a post about technical stuff behind our game.

zinski 2018-08-24 17:18

Hey! I really loved the atmosphere of this little exploration game! The minimalist graphic style mixing 2D and 3D was a great idea! I found the intuitive gameplay and quests make you want to discover every mystery of this planet! However I think that some additional feedbacks would make this game even better! Great job! :)

By the way please feel free to leave us some feedbacks on our game!

jamesolivermusic 2018-08-24 18:45

Awesome game. Really quite mesmerising to play, and see how the world ends up! Well done.

lexyvil 2018-08-25 23:50

Very fun game! And unique too. I escaped just in time with easy pit, as his area started to fly away just at the end. I really loved the 2D and 3D blend, and the concept of the planet breaking apart.

gmaker 2018-08-31 11:02

I really loved the graphics & camera control its polished. Also I liked billboards and landscape (was it generate, would be cool if so?). Thats really great job for a jam time. Thank you for the game!

team-yarn 2018-09-02 14:19

This game was very relaxing, until I vanished into space on a floating piece of earth. Very polished and like the graphical effects that were used. Good job all!

cheveasy 2018-09-03 15:48

I felt immersed and intrigued, and definitely sad when I lost. Great job on the overall style and sounds. I love the little spherical level to play on. It feels large and small at the same time. 2 thumbs up.

hellsquirrel 2018-09-04 13:51

cool!

2018-09-04 17:22

Nice graphics, interesting story! I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum Dare 42 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/RlwE2-mxmJw
