Wow! This game is very atmospheric! I love the music, art, and especially take on theme and overall mood this game creates!
Wow, I really like it! Great take on theme, very addictive game with growing difficulty over time. It does not getting repetitive which is also nice! Really solid work
@detectivelosos thank you for the reply :) I had little to no time to design levels properly, so to make gameplay a bit longer I've ended up designing hard levels. Aaaaaand yeah, I've probably overdone it :) I'll add more levels soon with a smoother learning curve to make gameplay more enjoyable.
That was pretty challenging! I like the idea and take on theme! For my taste, controls seems to be more sensitive than what feels comfortable to play. Probably more levels with different amounts of obstacles would make this game more enjoyable for people with poor gaming skills like me :)
I love the looks of this game! I found very challenging to track your position and height without, which is, probably, makes this game more realistic. However, water moving towards the island makes gameplay rather confusing, at first I thought that I move away from island.
Wow, this is so well-made game! I love every part of it. Puzzles are not too hard, made through levels no problem, but they are pretty addictive and fun to solve. Nice take on theme and well-designed levels, too.
This game is fantastic! That is what PICO-8 game is supposed to be. Very simple, single innovation (controls in your case) and with cool music. I love it!
This. Is. Just. Wonderful! Very playable, well-made addictive game with great mechanics, style, art and music!
From the many games made with similar mechanics, this one is by far my favorite! I'd love to see some good ending for the game, like if you make it through 100 days, big ship will come and pick you up, or something. Anyway, wonderful game!
The art style is amazing, I love the visual effects. Nice take on theme :)
Very nice little game, I especially love the music and the fact that you don't have to save any people inside, so I don't feel so guilty when I can't save everything :)
Cool game, pretty addictive and hardcore. Controls seem a bit stiff, so my character feels somewhat clumsy, don't know why. Glad you've finished your game, it is now a lot more playable than on SPbLD :)
@alleskapaul yes, thank you, I've forgotten to opt out voting for audio.
@zhanna thank you! It's all thanks to https://vk.com/tmokienko. We'll think about adding some music later :)
This is very atmospheric! Love it. I love how you have no idea what to do at the beginning, and you have to figure it out. Very enjoyable and fun.
Happy little game, I love it, thank you! When I saw the whole island from above - that was nice, both as an element of a gameplay (i.e to look for items) and as just nice landscape
I love well-thought games with complete mechanics and solid gameplay, and your is one of those! Very nice, thanks! You masterfully conveyed a depressive atmosphere of russian ebenya!
huh, greatest mom joke delivery ever :)
I like the overall style of the game - with SFX, background music and beautiful pixel graphics. Nice work! Controls do feel a bit slow sometimes. I'd like to see what else you can add to the game later
Wow, this game was a real fun to play! Quite addictive one, too. Love the graphics and the SFX, nice work!
The most unique take on a theme I've seen so far :) Breaking the 4th wall here :) "Wanna play a game themed "start from nothing"? Then create it first!" Nice work!
I really love the graphics, sound and the concept of the game. Fits theme perfectly and executed well. I had some issues with mouse control - mouse was over sensitive, so I couldn't make it throug the narrow upward slope someewhere at the beginning, unfortunately.
Well... Okay) That was something) I liked the "glitch" effect at the end. I was trying to figure out which world I can build from all the letters I typed to "activate" all the planets only to find that letter combination is random and different each time :)
Wow, that is cool! This game is pretty hard and unforgiving for the code challenges, but, well, balancing and tweaking these things is never easy, especially with limited time. It fits nicely in the theme, and executed well. I wonder what gameplay will be for music making and devlog posting :)
That is great idea nicely executed. I had a lot of fun while playing, thank you!
Very nice little puzzle game, I liked playing it. Cool choice of the platform to make a game!
The game looks great! Concept is great too, one of the best crafting games I've seen so far. Resource collection process probably requires some tweaking (e.g. tim eot cut a tree, auto-repeating actions, more dense resource location near the campfire to give you more resources at the beginning etc) to make this process more engaging.
The game is fantastic! I love the vocel art and challenging level filled with tons of different small details! What a fantastic work you've done! I find inertia in side movements a bit hard to control, but, oh well, it's understandable that you will have some intertia if you slide on your butt through the level :)
This is probably the game I've spent the most time playng among others LD45 entries. Fantastic work, love every part of it!
I like this style, I would definitely continue playing this game if it has a longer storyline.
Interesting concept, thank you! Well, now I'm supposed to rate my own graphics, oh you :)
Very nice puzzle. Thanks @cyberstarlight for explaining mechanics, this is the only detail lacking in the game. Otherwise - really nice and smart puzzle game.
Wow, a game about guy's makeup, that's new! I wonder where he gets all these spare face parts :) Nice simple game!
Nice and simple, I like it! I liked the small details, like when paint drops were bouncing of the moving platform! Probably raised my expectations too high, as, at the same time, I could hear step sound while character was mid-air, or it gone through moving platform while it lowered on him.
@matthew-engurasoff thank you for the comment! I'm happy someone finds such a game engaging and fum!
@stmatn Thank you! It does support keyboard input. Which makes me think that I should probably mention this earlier in the tutorial.
@daitse, wow, I'm really happy you figured it out! I wonder whether this game have some educational potential.. :)
@wolfrug, thank you, good point on the storyline! Should've definitely do that.
@siarhei-pilat Sorry, it's a .jar file, you can run it with Java runtime environment (you can download it from the Oracle website - https://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre8-downloads-2133155.html)
@siarhei-pilat I updated this page with a link to .zip containing .exe file with JRE already embedded
@stmatn yes, fair point. I agree, current text editor is not intuitive and doesn't work as everyone expecting.
"I assume, that you store the program or al least the lines as arrays" - YES, this is exactly how it is! Well, assembler probably has one of the simplest syntaxes to parse, so writing a proper translator would be no problem. I'll consider doing that in a post-LD version.
@igoreshka haha, thank you :) That is exactly the case :)
@scarletmayhem, sorry for that. I'll be doing a gameplay video soon, hope it'll help to understand game mechanics better.
@vladadamm thank you for the thorough analysis of the game UX! This all make sense, we'll add this in a post-LD version of the game
@dikkop we had a plans to switch over a punchcards somewhere in the middle of a gameplay :) That would've been unexpected :) Too bad we didn't have enough time to do that
@simon-rahnasto, thank you very much for the kind words! @senior-sigan, co-author of this game, teaches programming to a students, so we\re actually thinking about using this game for education.
That's amazing how you created so many items in this game! Wonderful!
So nice and simple, I like it! Such a nice relaxing game, thank you!
Wow, the atmosphere in this game (figuratively speaking, as the vacuum of the space is kind of opposite, huh) is fantastic! I love the style of this game, and, moreover, I love the controls. They feel so good and natural. Well done! I think this game in it's current state is a solid foundation for a further development, e.g. adding more gameplay and storyline to it.
I love this art style! I really appreciate artist's ability to create atmospheric environment in the game, well done!
this game is huge! And wonderful! I've found only 2 or 3 endings, would definitely dig further. I love music, art and the size off this world!
Rogue-like games fit this theme perfectly, as at first, you have to go down in the void bare-handed adn, well, yes, start with nothing. You've made a descent rogue-like. Cave adventures get repetitive soon, but the intro part is cool!
Huh, nice take on a theme :)
Huh, nice and simple, I like it. That's what AC power is about :)
I like the idea, had some fun playing this. I've managed even to launch a satellite! Some stats of population, technology level and so on would be also nice, in my opinion.
Nice take on a theme! Graphics are fine and simple, it suits the overall style great. I even think that first version of the design look better. But it's just my personal thoughts. Unfortunately, I almost didn't look at the planet itself as all the time my eyes were fixed on parameters and buttons. Some changes in UI layout may fix this.
escaped.png Well, I did it! Nice game. I agree with @honey-pony that the game would benefit from more combinations. Personally, I didn't find conveyor belts useful as I couldn't find out how to connect several producers to the one collector.
I love it! Som simple and nice! Made me laugh when haters turned into a fans!
Same issue as @sigod and others have (I'm using Windows). Please tag me in you find a solution
@jakemchugh1 thanks for tagging, had a great time playing this game! Couple of ludums ago (the one themed "growth" I was planning to do something similar, but focused on sumlight consumption. Never finished though. Nice gameplay!
By far one of the most fun and addictive compo games I've played!
Nice and simple game, love mechanics and music!
Looks like Ultima III, very nice and cozy pixels
БДЫЩ! Game looks great and fun to play. At first, I didn't notice that some things are actually buildings (like the tover on the left) and kept losing.
Nice concept and story!
Nicely done!
Agree with @egoregor. It was already fun to connect those dots together, but then I discovered you could lpay music with them! Fantastic!
Just laughed the whole time I've played this! 10 upside-down-flying boss-helicopters/10
Oh man do I suck at rhythm games! I've never seen games in this genre on Ludum before, very nice! Despite description, web version seems to work fine.
Graphics are great, I love the style, animations and parallax effect. I had very hard time nad tons of frustration before figured out how to grab onto the walls. After that, gameplay proces became very fun, but still challenging. Overall, loved it!
This is great! The idea, the gameplay, just great. We even have some story behind this world, which is always nice!
What a story!
I just can't stop playing strategy games. Spend like 30 minutes trying to achieve Победа, until Coronavirus got me, like, in one day. Oh well. Great game!
It looks great, I love background and main character animations! I wonder what is a story behind this world.
LU LU LU LUPAWWW!
Hah, nice sound effects! Very unique concept, never seen anything like this before! It reminds me this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-V1uXeyGmg
I also liked that each time target loop is generated with different parameters. Nice featre, it increases re-play-ability :)
I would say controls felt a bit off. I would experiment with controls position (i.e place ones which controls X and Y-axis amplitudes along X and Y axis, and maybe draw them as sliders?). I would also try to place two loops over each other and see how it looks. Probably this'll make game easier and more fun to play, as player would see the difference between two loops more clearly.
Anyway, really nice and unique idea, and implemented well!
It's funny how different people can develop similar concepts (rails) into completely different games! I love the overall style of it. Music, sfx and graphics are perfectly matched. Gameplay is simple and fun,I liked the combo of puzzle and shooter genres, well done!
Hats off for making N-body physics game for LD48! Well, that's a thing about orbital mechanics games. The idea sounds cool, but turning that into actual game is whole different story. That's why I naver had enough courage to try to make something similar, well done!
That was super fun to play! I wish ldjam.com stored my history of rated games as I've seen very similar game once, implementing same idea with colliding into your own ghosts on looped track. But your entry has greater chance of collision, turning racing loop into some kind of a busy highway :) Well done!
PS scored 40 loops :)
UPD: nice game name by the way!
@pekuja oh, thank you! I was talking about this game https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/racecar-racecar
It's funny how you both implemented basically the same idea, with slightly different mechanics. I feel it's actually more fun to play your version with more ghosts and shorter track.
Link works for me, very nice and fun game! Music & graphics works together well, animations are nice-looking, too. One thing that slightly annoys is hopping car SFX. The idea is pretty random and wild. I Like it!
Oh, I like this style, it's so cute! That's the cutest rail loop I've seen so far! Nice gameplay, too!
> since no-one seems to realise you’re there if you just jump up on the spot while shooting
Yep, used same strategy as @john-gabriel
Oh man, I was waiting for Elon Musk at the end, oh well
Also, this :D
> "My Tesla stock go to waste"
I like music and art in this game, nicely done! Man those turns are sharp! Adding some inertia to ship movement would make it more fun to play, I guess!
Nice idea! I like email intro, very fun and suspiciously accurate :) I like indicator below, looks like some logic analyzer logs, with all those signals on the timeline, nice!
I feel like you were trying to make a puzzle game. My thoughts on this is that you have to show a whole level to a player, so I could plot my actions beforehead to "solve" the level. First two or three levels felt alright, than it felt more like a platformer with a trial-and error mechanics. Well, there's not much you can do about level design in 48 hours, I get it :) As for game mechanics and looks of it - everything implemented great, I enjoyed playing it!
"Ok, you may pass" hahahahah this is the first LD 47 entry that made me laughing out loud! The game is fantastic! How did you manage to make all this in 48h? It looks great, it sounds great - I like different music in "2d" and "3d" modes. Really nice take on idea. I had similar idea at the beginning - e.g you cut loopholes in ribbon, jump through it to the inner side, to avoid obstacles in 2d world. But scraped this idea as too hard to implement in 48h.
An actual C64 game? That's very impressive! Game looks very nice, I like cute train carts animation and colors used to draw everything. Just as @automatonvx, I couldn't pass a level with two brown carts. I felt the same about X crossings. Some visual indication of crossing direction would be great. But overall, very impressive. I'll definitely bookmark this to try later on my real C64G :)
That's a rare example of a horror game on LD, and a good one. Well done building suspence! I looked into the comment section before playing this, so I had some spoilers, but anyway, that was pretty scary. I even took my headphones off at some point, to fall out of game's atmosphere and complete it :)
It's getting a bit repetitive a tthe end, I agree with @porcus-pie that game would definitely benefit from a bit more environmental storytelling.
But still, very impressive entry!
That was suspiciously accurate family vacation simulator.
I really liked the humor (or humour?) in this one. It was fun to play!
Man, watching ball finally looping through the level is so much fun! Challenging and fun puzzle, I like it! The pace of this one is a bit slow, but I guess it's Ok for a puzzle game. Or probably I was playing a laggy browser version and that's why it was slow for me.
Okay, that was fun! Sound design fits gameplay very well! Color palette is nice, too! I would prefer more control over "charge -> shoot" cycle. It seems like there's no difference how fast you spin. Slower spins even worked better as they allowed to shoot more packed bullets at the desired direction, whereas when you spun like crazy, you could't aim at all, and bullets were shot at the same rate. I would've made some balanced thing, like "slower = more accurate" and "faster = more powerful", something like that. Coupled with "inertia" mechanics that is already in your game, and some clever level disign, this could lead to some very addictive hardcore game. But oh well, 48h is not a lot. Still, pretty good entry.
I like the looks of it, nice art! Characters are cute , they even have those adorable ear twitch animation on the main screen! Very nice!
Yay, another rails game! Nice idea and implementation! It took a while to figure out why "Invalid railway" warning happens. Turns out, your railway should always be as one giant loop, no switches, no crossings. Also, if rail building were costing money, and different resources delivery were giving you different amounts of gold, it would add more fun to the gameplay. All in all, pretty fun cute little game, i liked it!
> frustration-inducing platformer
Well, it kinda is :) In a good way. I wonder who allowed to transport all those spikes by a plane? The game is pretty challenging. I was tried to move some boxes between levels and accidentally get locked in a previous room while camera moved to the next one.
This time I've completed more than one game loop :) Fun and challenging, while pretty simple. I like transition to the next level. But more importantly, MUSIC!! That's just fantastic, reminds me something from Portal 2 :)
pio.PNG
That was very fun, and very challenging! It's not that easy to create interesting game around (pun intended) orbital mechanics, but you did it! I had a great time playing this. Also, glowing effects on planets are nicely done!
Low-poly graphics looks very cool! Remind me some old PC and N64 games! I love SFX, they're really on point! Music is also very catchy and stylish, it fits game well. I was able to complete one loop, the parts with tiny islands were hardest for me. I watched a gameplay video on itch.io - that was impressive! I wish I had such skills :)
UPD: Oh yes, the voice! That was nice :)
UPD2: So far, my most favorite compo entry!
Oh, that went unexpectedly dark... I love the idea. Glitching graphic effects look cool! Do you become a boss yourself and complete the loop at the end?
Very nice and sweet! I liked that you can experiment a bit and remove flowers from Jam Zone to listen to different variations of the track! I wonder if you can add more gameplay to it... Maybe you could control each track shift, and get extra points when you sync tracks so they'll sound in harmony or something.
@gammaromeo thanks! Send me a link when your game is ready!
@fumybulb @colejparker @yeomsley thank you! I wish I had more time to add more levels!
@blobo @aligator Thanks! Yeah, I wish I had more time. I was experimenting with some extra items on the map (i.e some tunnel-like thing you go through), but it looked not great so I scraped it. I was planning to make rails go up & downhill a bit, but couldn't figure out how to calculate horizon position, so I scraped that idea either. Well, I glad you still liked it!
@irwatts Thank you! I was struggling with those indicators for a while, trying to make them more distinct, but didn't find a quick fix. As I'm writing this, I just realized that instead of fixing indicators, I could layout rails a bit different to make arrows more distinct. Oh well.
@flammchen @star-sought @shp @fabdynamic @anchorlight Thank you guys a lot! I'm really glad you liked the looks of it! I'm not an artist at all, so coding something like that was an only option to make somethnig visually appealing :)
@jelle-vermandere Thank you! Yeah, I was trying to fix those indicators last minute, make them slimmer or something. However, I was so tired of solving trigonometry stuff that I decided to leave it as it is. Probably I should've change rails layout slightly instead. But oh well.
@wevel @arkinrev Thank you! Yeah, I sould've planed to make multimple levels from the beginning, I wish I made a couple more levels.
@guaranteedtrainwreck Hey Damien, thanks for checking out my game! I'm so glad you've noticed all the work I've done to this engine - like render distance and all that! I wish I could make SFX and music!
@blubberquark Thanks! I glad it took you so little time to beat the game! I was afraid that it wouldn't be clear how to play this, so I designed this level as simple as possible. I was experimenting with extra landmarks - like tunnels and stuff, but it turned out to look not great, so I scraped it and planted several trees instead :)
I enjoyed it, nice game!
It looks nice with low-poly "plasticky" graphics, and even cute, despite the graveyard setting! Sometimes enemies were hard to spot, but I guess that's how it should be at the graveyard at night.
Gameplay is addictive and enjoyable, nice work! Controls and aiming felt alright. Thanks for adding mouse sensitivity settings, that was helpful!
As for "night after night" mechanics, I was expecting upgrades to make your life easier, not harder - that's what they do! Well, more enemies => mo souls, and that's a good thing, I get it, it just feels counter-intuitive. Also I expected Necromancer to rise undead to play on your side, not make 'em undeader. That would explain why upgrades contain undead classes. Well, I read you had struggles with the theme, so that's understandable.
Overall, very fun game, thanks!
This game is so cute and funny, I just can't! Marissa look super cute too!
> Tututu duru tutu! Duru! Duru!
Now it's stuck in my head :D
Very cute train game, I like toy-ish graphics! From what I noticed, train moves weird when you overlap tracks. Also raised trachs (i.e ones you create bridge with) are hard to grab with mouse - probably, their collision box doesn't match their model (you can grab them if you click below it somehow). Otherwise, very cute little game!
UPD: I agree with @themosterts, train moves a bit slow. It's OK on first levels, but as tracks grow, you wish it moved faster.
Very nicely done! At first I was thinking that's a simple looped racing game and I was OK with that, as it looks and feels great. But then I saw your extra take on theme. Nice one!
Very nice rogue like game! Oh, and random tombs generation too? Neat! Good job implementing all different mechanics (torches, spells, extinguished torch lit from comrades, vases) in 48 hours! Well done!
I like the graphics! Music is fine, reminds me sound from old consoles, but it gets repetitive over time. I liked that you painted floor tiles differently on the level 3, so that player could see the pattern easily. That is nice idea! However, level 6 could use a bit more guided level design approach. I was lost in these open fields and couldn't beat it :) But it's a compo antry, I feel like we shouldn't judje level design here. Overall, nice idea and good implementation!
Very nice entry! Reminds me DOS game "Sopwith".
What a wonderful game! I was able to finish it, I liked the plot twist :) Suddenly, you're not fixing a rebooting machine, but instead, well, spoilers! I loved PC sounds, it really adds to the atmosphere, well done! As was mentioned earlier, CLI implemented really well. One thing I miss from the real CLI is the command history (and up/down arrows for navigation) - but it works just fine without it.
Cool idea with global online highscore table! Liked the graphics. Simple and nice. Camera seems to be OK, I had more struggles with VERY sharp turns. Well, I suppose real air boat handles the same
> to get out of the loop to get out of the loop
I was expecting the rest of the description would be like "to get out of the loop to get out of the loop " :D
Same issue here, Can't load this in browser. Please tag me when you fix this!
I like what you did with graphics! The idea is fun, too. Gameplay felt like it could be faster. Or probably it's my integrated GPU that could be.
I think I broke a loop :)
The game looks nice. I like it! Nice take on a theme, too :)
Screenshot_20201005_203105.png
TRON inside a sphere? Very nice, I like the idea and the look of it! Once I've managed to escape from this inside-out sphere somehow. But I have no idea how did I do this :)
Yeah, I was able to terraform some area and extend rails a bit! It took a while though as I kept hitting the wrong buttons for for pickup\release hooks. As train turns upside down, first cart is lower then the second, and left & right sides are switched, so I can't always think fast enough, which button does what. Second camera mode probably helps, I just prefer fixed camera
Nice game, you were right, the concept IS similar to my game :) Nice graphics, I like that full train gets chubby, cute little detail :) Minimap is also on point
Oh yes, an infinite loops of social media.. We can all relate to this :) Nice take on concept, i love the humor in this one!
You have full-blown MANUAL available for this game? Wow, that's like +10 retro nostalgia points! That's just wonderful! Also. I happened to read manual while title screen music was playing - somehow that matched perfectly and created really spooky atmosphere!
Oh, what a game! When you mimic those old 2600 games, it's hard to make player to learn how to play it. But somehow you managed to did it (well, it worked on me!). I spent some time with a manual on one side of monitor and game on another. Interesting and fun experience, well done!
Oh man, that was so intense! I lasted 171 seconds, and was fired because I should've texted my boss back, not because I got like 7 dead kids lying there, huh :) Nice take on theme and nice graphics, too!
> The other has the video slowly come to a stop with a special ending song and disembodied voice– this is the actual ending
Oh, so I beat it? That was... Something! Thank you for visual experience! That was the most beautiful death scene I ever seen! Very stylish and cryptic game, everything in this works to set the right mood. I wish it had more gameplay to it. I easily see myself spending hours going through puzzled levels in this setting!
16 attempts! Nice game, I liked it!. Reminds me of "Space Impact" on my nokia 6510. Those up-and-down moving bosses, little "bullet waves" I can make while flying through the level... I like the take on theme, and it feels so rewarding to start same level again, but with MOAR POWER this time :) Well done!
Ah yes, the coding game! I had similar idea of some kind of "code review simulator", but couldn't think of how to make this. Your implementation of this idea seems to be pertty nice. It's easy to "code", it's cool how many different tasks you could make for simple actions like "comment, move up, move down, change symbol, change loop count". I agree with @james-joubert, levels should be more difficult towards the end. Also, some tasks are a bit tedious, when you have to count 30 symbols to locate the bug. Well, just as in real programming, I guess :)
Ah, rabbit looks very cute ^^ Oh man, those controls! They are super unrealistic, but somehow super fun! Running rabbit with a ton of inertia looks so silly :) Stealthy atmospere is fun, but it vanishes rather quickly as you realize that wolves are slow (and stupid) and you can easily outrun them. I wonder how this changes over time when level will be packed (pun intended) with wolves. Unfortunately, after I lost, I had to start from level one, which I decided not to. Probably because of relatively long game cycle. I would say, smaller map, random level generation, and some smarter / faster AI would make this game more fun. Not sure though, experimenting with those things would help to figure this out. Anyway, pretty fun little game, liked it!
Ah yes, the Luntic, just as I remember him from that kids show!
luntic.png
Nice game, I liked graphics and the dark atmesphere in this one. As for gameplay, well, it's cool idea of looped labyrinth, great take on theme. But somethin ghas to be done to make it more fun to play. Different characters wandering in labyrinth is definitely a good step in right direction, but I still wasn't patient enough to figure out how to escape
Wow that looks great! I really love simplicity and nice looks of it. Very well done!
@pizzart64 Thank you a lot! I was hoping to create something engaging, and I'm happy that you find it so. I wish I could spend my time more effectively and have some left to implement proper Game Over screen
@poorwill Thanks! That's the greatness of pixel graphics: it looks visually appealing with less time spent on it.
@robochase6000 thanks! Yeah, fuel could be cheaper. That's not a problem later in game, but I can see how that could be annoying at the start.
@magna thank you for a feedback! TIL the world "softlock". I can't think of any additional gameplay detail to fix this. Can you suggest something?
@luke-frisbee Thank you! Oh I wish I could make it more addictive so people would try to dig **deeper** to discover that the game has some more content to it :) Probably, "Drill the **worlds** beneath" (in bold) was not enough :)
@trei oh yes! I was trying to imitate something like that, I'm happy that you appreciated it!
@romanempire Thank you! The thing is that this game **has** more complexity to it, I wish it could lure players to dig a bit **deeper** :)
@pawciu thank you! One day. One day I will have time left, and skill present to compose soundtrack or tweak sound generators randomly to produce some SFX.
I love the small touches, like floating "E" button, dynamic text typing, nice and smooth controls. And I really like chromatic abberation effect, really adds some retro look to the gaem. The in-game tutorial is also a nice touch, loved it. Music seems nice, I like that it appears only in some locations. It adds to the atmosphere and present those locations as "special". When level requires a lot of jumping, it's hard to control horizontal speed of the character. I really like particle effects. Stomp on the meat dogs and squish them to pieces feels saisfying. I wish this entry had more levels, or more inventive level design, but oh well, it's only 72 hours. Overall, I enjoyed playing it. Well done!
While I definitely wish it had more gameplay to it, I really like the concept and digging mechanics. The style and the atmosphere are on spot as well. Nice entry!
This mechanic, while not unique, is still pretty rare, and it implemented well in this game. Also, it looks polished and nice, I also love the sound effects. Really satisfying switch clicks! I find confusing that clicking a color switch reveals parts of the level previously unseen, I thought that you'll see the whole level at once, and click switches to access previously inaccessible parts of it. That would make it more like puzzle and less like a platformer. But I assume that it is easier to desing levels that way. Overall, really nice game!
Very nice game! I love the concept, great typing excercise! Great music, sounds, character designs, just all around well polished fun little game. Some dialogs are great fun, too. Very much enjoyed playing this!
Oh no, I pressed "Ctrl+W" to erase last word and closed the browser tab :) Twice! Oh well, some habits are too strong.
About the game: Oh wow, I think this is the first text-based game on Ludum Dare I was able to finish. Wery well-thought, with nice tasks and interesting story. Well done!
Fun little game, I like it. Great take on a theme, too. Just like Crossy Road is the modern take on Frogger, this could be some kind of reinvention of Breakout or Arkanoid. Very fun! You can score players by the number of horses it took him/her to destabilize stable :) Like the less horses it took, the more points you get. That would make a game more fun, IMO
I was shot by the turret, oh well. Very nice game, I might return to it later! I like that events are non-linear, and you may gain necessary items later in the game, if you missed them earlier. Well done! Inventory limit is also a good addition, adds one more dimension to decision-making. OVerall, very pleasant game.
Not gonna lie, I was ESPECIALLY accurate checking the contents of the dir, after downloading something called "the-virus-1.1.zip" :)
#### About the game: Great concept, "Defrag" challenge was fun and well done, with all its frustrating glory of label / color mismatch.
Wow, that was quite an experience! Great sound design and music in this one. Goals were not clear, which makes this more like a interactive art piece than a game, IMO. Anyway, great entry
Oh, finally found it! Yeterday it catched my eye in the main feed, so let's give it a try!
First, I love the music, it definitely reminds me of transport tycoon, nice touch! The game looks great, too! I admire the scope of the game you've managed to create in this 72 hrs! Very impressive! I must say, playing this was quite a learning curve. UI/UX need a good polishing for sure, but for such a complex game it would take another day. So I took my time to learn how to play, and after some time and page refreshes I started to really enjoy your game, that was quite rewarding. Thanks for nice touches like show/hide numbers and buildings, this helped for sure. I like how along with load balancing, careful "pipe management" is also an element of a gameplay. If you're not careful, your map quickly turns into a mess. Overall, great game, I would like to play the post-compo version some time!
Great game! Very captivating and fun, nice take on a crafting mechanics! Really love "true" pixel art (all pixels are of uniform size, no "Rotating" pixels, etc), and true 8-bit music (not just a generic electronic music with 8-bit-ish samples among others). Very inventive crafting process, steering adds a lot more fun to the process!
I love the pun in the game name! The game is very well made, it looks great, it sounds great, levels are fun to go through, and the concept is also great. I spent quite some time playing this, 10/10!
While this concept is not unique, it's executed very well. Particle effects, "Best" line and tower panning after game over are nice touches. Also, music and SFX in this one are good. Very nice compo entry!
Gerat game! I love this concept, very theme-fitting. I like that each angle of the stick makes sound of different pitch :) Nice little detail. Gameplay is pretty hardcore and with a healthy dose of frustration. If that was your goal, then well done! If, instead, you want this to be more casual, I would experiment with showing trajectory, so you could better plan your move instead of just eye-balling it. Overall, great game!
Oh, troubleshooting felt so real, I almost forgot it was just a game. Very nice!
Wow, what a nice concept! Very theme-fitting, with unstable acrobat and unstable lighting. That's like 10/5 on theme. Great execution, too! You've got well-known gameplay, changed one part of it (periods of darkness), and this made playing this way more interesting. "One innovation" rule at its best. I love the graphics and music as well. I was not expecting this level of hardcode from the game with such cute visuals, well done!
That's a great game right there! Firstly, the concept is unique to me, I've never seen a combination of Donkey Kong with shop & building mechanics. Second, it looks and sounds very very nice, I love the style of levels, character design and shop interface. And also, I love your attention to details. Where someone could just put a dollar sign and call it a day, You've made "The scaffolding company" how fun! It's impressive how you managed to do all this and this good just in 48 hrs! The game looks very polished, complete with some nice touches like proper intro (with even a fun twist to it)! That's a 5/5 entry!
UPD: Oh my god, you're the author of the "Ribbon" from LD47! That was my favorite game then! Well done!
Very fun and addictive game, I like it!
Screenshot_20211006_234429.png
Huh, that was quite a learning curve! From 3 controls to five :) I was overwhelmed and could not beat this level :)
Very nicely done, I think I've seen games with similar mechanics, but those entries were not as enjoyable and polished. Is it a Star Trek reference? Overall, well done!
Fantastic! I had this "Oooooh!" moment when I learned about mechanics in the game. And the next level with the robot, what a clever idea!
thanks.PNG
And thank you for making this. What were the more "theme-fitted" mechanics you wanted to add? Just curious :)
Inventive and fun concept, as always. Nice visuals, too. Cube "victory dance" reminded me of early CGI cartoons, nice touch! Personally, I would experiment with the pacing. Maybe controls without delays would feel more natural. Anyway, well done!
UPD: I was not expecting "Lights out" mechanics, I really liked it! Also, gradually introducing new elements throughout the levels is always a win.
Great looks and awesome music! Gameplay is fun, while isn't that addictive to me. The only complaint is inconsistent (or *unstable*? Heh) platform behavior. If you stand on platform with "0" on it, it auto-destructs. Hovewer, if this platform is last in the level, it stays intact until you make a jump. Overall, good entry!
@chaosbrick Interesting, I played some more and couldn't reproduce this. Well, probably my fault - I could definitely jump several times on the platform without noticing. Sorry for that!
Great game! I enjoyed this one, nice and addictive. Pretty sure I've never seen similar concept. Also, wibbly-wobbly-textured cube looks nice :)
WOW, The MUSIC! Oh my, what a punchy and fun melody! Great game, I like it very much. Thank you for making ship speed linear, so the game wouldn't be frustratingly hard :) Very well done
**TIP:** (for other players): Launch this in Chrome. Firefox (on Windows) doesn't seem to like TIC-80 games, and doesn't play music correctly
Nice concept and stylish, minimalistic implementation. I love the aesthetics of this, with Gamebox-like graphics and simple 8-bit music & sounds. Well done!
Funny intro sequence! I like it ) Intro music is great, reminds me of some demoscene works. Character & NPCs designs are cool. And oh god, I love the humor in this one! From cowdogs design, to Fartist :) Very nice game, I was very glad to beat it
scbg.PNG
Nice visuals and take on a theme (and a song!) I would prefer blocks to rotate, but I guess the less buttons the better, if you're aiming for hyper-casual gameplay here.
Enjoyed this very much. I love sound effect of the letterbeam! So punchy! Visuals are great, too. Congrats on making such a good and polished game in just 12hrs!
Very nice game, it looks so polished, can't beleive it was done in 48h! Well done. I like the fuse mechanic, it really makes the gameplay unique. That was pretty hard for my skills, I couldn't master wall jump and beat lvl 4, but anyway I had great fun playing this.
@cogcomp thank you for playing! Yeah, I watched people play this game, and most people were trying to decelerate pieces, which is not great for aiming. So I really wanted to include some tutorial into the game, but ran out of time.
@refrax295 Thank you! I hope "Tips & Tricks" section was helpful.
@fractale Thank you for playing! Oh man. Every LD I am determined to compose some music or get some help with it, but each time I end up producing silent entry :) Oh well, I'll try next time
@myles-doupe thank you for playing. Yeah, I noticed that game cycle is kinda long (20 or more seconds for one piece - unthinkable for ordinary Tetris!), but didn't come up with anything to speed things up. So yeah. It requires some patience to enjoy this. I hope it's still somewhat playable and fun, at least as a weird no-one-asked-for novelty :)
@turkey Thank you! Yeah, it takes some time to learn how to place pieces.
@vectrex28 thank you for playing! I wish I had more time to think of some ways of making this more intuitive and "casual" probably. This is a thing with all orbital mechanics games I saw on LD so far: they're fun as a novelty, but usually hard to play, and the only way to improve UX is to ditch the orbital mechanics :)
@bassilij thank you! Wanted to make orbital mechanics game for a while, and after I got my first planet spinning around the star, I somehow landed on idea of making weird Tetris out of it.
@mrbell270 Huh, oh, your version of the pun is better, can I borrow it for the header? :D Thank you for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed this!
@laurenceogden Thanks! I'm glad you found my tips helpful. Yeah, first time I tried to play my own game, I had a feeling that something is wrong. After some getting used to it, I found this concept okay-ish, but yeah, still far from the original addictive Tetris. I was trying to think of ways to improve gameplay, but found none.
@freeworld Thank you! Yeah, sliding was one of the ways to make this game easier. Sometimes it is counter-intuitive, but overall I think it makes more good than bad.
@dnabro thank you for playing! Third day, still no ideas how to improve this and make learning curve less painful and more fun.
@strega Thank you! I think I've ALMOST mastered it during these 3 days :) I can aim pieces pretty good, but still can't strike more than 4 lines at once (which is theoretically possible). Yeah, reversing the direction could be helpful, thank you for the idea
@mrnannings thanks for checking this out!
@a-bond Yeah, this would allow to create solar system out of tetraminos, and perform some sick gravity assists :D
@javasaurus thanks! Yep, fullscreen is broken, that's my first time using emscripten + raylib, I'll figure out how to fix this next time. Yeah, I had to add WASD to usual arrows because of the issues with scrolling.
@kalevrk Thank you! Yeah, I was thinking on the combo of limited fuel and non-circular orbits to make game cycle faster. Maybe I should experiment with it for the post-compo version. Thanks!
@balduvian-dead Thank you for playing! Yeah, it was written in pure C, and raylib is a really thin game library layer. So everything is statically linked into a one tiny tiny binary. Thank you for pointing out about window size, I've added option to resize a window.
@mchs-productions Thank you for the kind words! Well, that was challenging, but with some handy Vector2-related functions in raylib I was able to program the core logic pretty fast.
@helicule thank you for playing! I am happy that you liked it!
@witekwitek Thanks! As I can't really create any art, my solo games are usually look pretty simple. I'm happy that you find these visuals somewhat likeable :) Yeah, I was thinking on some ways to simplify the gameplay, but had no time to implement anything. As for fullscreen mode, I've made an update with properly working fullscreen, you can check this out.
@thegamerasd Thank you!
@chaosbrick Thanks for playing! I wrote pretty complicated logic to slide pieces after you've placed them. And while this makes gameplay somewhat easies, it is still pretty far on the hard side.
@richnou Thank you for appreciating my take on Tetris :) I wish it would simpler, but 48h are 48h :)
@future-labs-unlimited Yeah, clearing a line is great :) Thank you for playing!
@zimny11 Thank you! Yeah, time limit, and lack of experience in writing music / making SFX. All my solo entries are silent, and every LD I make a promise that I'll do something about it, but here we are, another LD, another silent game :)
@sethjmoore Thank you! I've seen 4d tetris, softbody Tetris, and many more - surprized no one made orbital Tetris before, AFAIK :)
@domantas Thank you for playing, I'm really happy you found this concept interesting! I'm sad that you were sad, so I fixed fullscreen mode today :) You can try again if you like :) As for losing pieces, I have some code that checks whether your piece is too far from the center - and, if it is - returns it back to the default orbit. However, it is possible to accelerate your piece in such a way that it is already out of view, but still has not flown far enough. In that case - yeah, you can totally lose your piece. I guess I should've check whether a piece is out of view for a certain amount of time instead.
@michael-feldman wow, that's an impressive score, congrats! I'm happy that you liked it and played for some time! Yeah, you got everyghing right about the mechanics :)
Ho. Ly. Hell. That was. Quite an experience. From calm and peaceful to. Well, nightmar-ish and destructive. I couldn't avoiding "bad thoughts" and keeping my breath at the same time, that seemed to be impossible, so I got the "bad" ending. I wonder if there is a good one. However, I enjoyed your game, its beautiful.
Nice game! Managed to summon 3 out of 7 different demons. On my second try I fugured pentargam rotation is a visual cue for when to press buttons (it makes 1 full rotation in 25 seconds, right?), and summoned 5 demons! Very cute little game, love demon designs (UwU-something was my favorite!) and sounds!
I was about to comment how "true" retro this looks. And then I saw that it's actually made for NES. Fantastic job, I can't beleive it's possible to make something like this in 48 hours.
'Ha-ha, how "Scary"' - me, after deliberately going towards the floating head. "Oh S^&%#$*!" - Me, losing each time after that, after head came around the corner :)
Either I am easy to spook, or the game is spooky itself - anyway, nice entry, 5/5 Mood :)
Not gonna lie, when I opened the game, I had to re-check whether this is really compo. It looks so polished, very impressive what you managed to achieve in 48h!
Very nice game all around, I really like earthquake effect. I would love to see buildings shaking with the ground, it probably will look even more epic. Balance seems to be on the easy side, probably need some tweaks for the post-compo, but works perfectly as-is for a quick play. Well done!
Oh man, The MUSIC!
Your game was loading in background tab, and after if loaded, I actually spent some time just listening to it. The concept is pretty simple, but well implemented. I love the visuals, "victory" animation, and simple sound effects of it. Are levels generated procedurally? Asking because in some levels ball spawned just above the green box. Overall, well done!
Oh My, I defended the Beast!
Wow, what a fun game! I've played a handful of "stacking" games on this LD, and at first, I thought that this was one of them, but instead of "height" you had "population". And then came the dragon :) That was a total surprise, everything started to make sense. So next time I've read all the requirements for each building and tried to actually build some towers etc. Unfortunately I ran out of time, so third time was the charm, when I unlocked towers and castle.
Overal, very nice fusion of different mechanics and genres, fun and enjoyable entry, well done!
Fun little game, adds one more dimension to those three-lane runners. I love small details, like sparks behind the board don't disappear the moment you swap the rail, but instead fade slowly. Nicely done. Some score would be a nice addition, so I could see how far I've travelled and see my progress.
Wow, this one is really fun to play! So far, my favorite in "Audio" category! But also, it looks amazing and unique, well done!
I like it! Very simple concept, but it works. This could've easilly become unforgivingly hard, but you've managed to balance it well, I enjoyed playing it
That was fun! Great concept and funny setting. I couldn't enter the password, may be I had too much :)
I've played a few of "air traffic routing" games, so I was prepared for some frustrating gameplay, but you've managed to create a surprisingly enjoyable entry. Is it graphics, or sound, or controls - I can't say exactly, but whatever that is, it works. Well done! I liked playing it
UPD: Huh, "AIROBICS"??? I love the name :D
Mmmmmm did I crashed it? Seems like it. Oh well, Unity physics are pretty... UNSTABLE :)
crash.PNG
The core idea with sprouting and cutting, and branching is reeeally nice and unique, I very much like it. I can see that mechanics reworked into some simple and addictive hyper-casual mobile game.
It worth trying mouse controls, as they might work better here.
While the concept isn't unique, it fits the theme perfectly, and executed great. Great game, well done and polished! Music and visuals are great, everything looks very nice, and main character design is cute. Lignting effects and particles are a nice touch.
The last question was.. Oh. A bit cryptic  :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation:
I was expecting to see emojis in the game literally called "The rise of the emoji" :)
Overall, simple but fun little game!
You've managed to finish your game, add music, SFX, several levels and tutorial in 48h, well done! I like the concept and minimalistic looks of the game. Sometimes my "glass" jitters for no apparent reason. I guess, it adds some "insstability" to the game :) Probably some physic engine glitches
I saw the name of the game and thought "My GOD, is there anything unique I can make? That must be exactly the same concept as my "Orbitris"". Turns out, no, it isnt the same at all. Nice little game, it looks great, extra points for the nice stars effect, I like it! I was able to get ~1100-ish points before get sucked in by the black hole. Which I totally missed because it was masked by the blackness of the space :)
Totally agree that minimap would make things better, but mouse thruster controls feel a bit more fun then suggested keyboard ones. I would experiment with more idfferent mouse-activated elements of the ship, like turrets to shoot asteroids, or magnetic rays to collect something. Someone could find a lot of fun in those "control hell" games.
That's the most unique idea i've seen so far! I like the narration as well, it motivated me to continue playing to read the story. I wish I could press and hold spacebar, so keys would fall automatically, OR! Why don't use backspace instead? It seems more appropriate for deleting text.
That's one of my favorites so far. It looks amazing, music and sounds are cool, too. I love the pace, it really sets the mood. Usually I suck at such games, but here I could successfully beat several levels and get "welcome back" screen. I guess that the goal is to find a "true" exit, but I quickly got lost :) Overall, fantastic entry, well done!
Very fun game, ended up playing multiple times. Very simple yet addictive, I like it! Great music and sound, too
Great idea, never seen something like this before. Makes you constantly adapt your playstyle. Nice take on theme, too. As @wafflesys mentioned, timer is a good touch. Also congrats on implementing AI for this one. Well done!
UPD: Huh, if you think about it, timer makes shapeshifting in "Unpredictable shapeshifting" kinda... Predictable :)
THAT is a way more theme-fitting version of Tetris then my take! I see you did the research and painted pieces correctly. Well done! Oh, how wonderfully frustrating this game is! That was a great fun to play this.
This game is very addictive! I like the way mthe music theme matches your current weapon. Audio que on which weapon will be next is a great touch! It really helps. The game is fun and challenging, may be too challenging for me, 1:31 was my personal best :)
I had a lot of fun playing it! I like the nod to the Portal aesthetics, and the concept overall reminded me of old joke websites\flash games like "don't push the red button" :) Very nice entry, make me smile :)
Agree with @epeachyband, thought of Machinarium too. Very nice visuals. Title music theme is so groovy, I love it! In-game tutorial is a nice touch, it probably should be more forgiving (i.e I died from walking in different direction, huh), but considering the time it requires to polish such things, no complaints here :)
