jk5000 2021-10-04 09:14

I really like the music and visuals, but I don't totally understand the gameplay.

m11 2021-10-04 09:16

To echo jk5000, I thought the visuals and music were really great :)

3mpty 2021-10-04 09:46

Really fitting the theme, gorgeous visuals and a really polished package. The sounds are great and I like the mixture of outward and inward threats to deal with.

My only gripe is sometimes RNG feels like it can put you in unwinnable scenarios, not sure how to really fix that though.

I got to about 200 seconds, was there a high score board I missed somewhere? Not sure what my exact time was.

mrbell270 2021-10-04 15:34

@3mpty Thanks for your feedback Unfortunatelly, RNG is not very smart in my design. But some unwinnable scenarios were created on purpose, so player would not relax :) Highscore is local only, sorry. You can see your highscore on "death" screen.

mrbell270 2021-10-04 15:36

@jk5000 Thanks for your feedback:) If you could tell me what was confusing, I would be truely grateful!

mrbell270 2021-10-04 15:37

@m11 though it's echoed, thanks for your feedback:)

erikengineengineer 2021-10-04 16:34

After an initial few seconds and understanding the game mechanics I really liked this game! keep on making games!

mrbell270 2021-10-04 16:51

@erikengineengineer Thanks!

ugly-robot 2021-10-04 17:30

This game is amazing - a masterful use of visuals and sound to create a simple and satisfying experience. I can't gush enough about the vibe - the lovely color shifts, the particle effects indicating the next emission, the orbiting visuals, the outside-electron indications, the subtle and melodic sound ques - all of it show the highly honed skills of an experienced game designer.

Amazing work, truly fantastic.

Who would have thought my two favorite games so far would be nucleus based! (https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/nuclide)

mrbell270 2021-10-04 20:49

@ugly-robot Thanks for your thorough review! I should check my main contender now, I assume :D

UPD. Checked out Nuclide, really nice puzzle:)

irwatts 2021-10-04 22:52

Really awesome mood with this one. The SFX go so nicely with the ambient background, and compliments the graphics very well. I'd love to play this with an arcade spinner!

mrbell270 2021-10-05 00:15

@irwatts Thank you, it is really nice to know you convey some emotions through your work:)

Controls were my main concern. When porting to android I will try to implement thumb-spinning, the closest you can get to real spinner.

foursay 2021-10-05 04:22

Really neat art style and I love the gameplay! I especially admire the font you choose for this game, which makes the games feel good from the initial start. Nice Work!

bootak 2021-10-05 16:09

Very stylish and unique game! Graphics are simple yet pleasing, and animations are great. Audio design is done very well, too. 100% theme hit. Great game overall!

mrbell270 2021-10-05 16:27

@foursay @bootak Thanks for your kind words :)

itzemii 2021-10-05 20:40

234.94 seconds :-) I like the simple minimalistic art style, fits very well. As well the sound scape and effects are very nice and fitting. Nice animations. Very solid game mechanics: 1. controls of the shield 2. Two types of challenges (electrons and emitted particles) 3. Clear objective and clear feedback 4. Extra: full shield (first I did not understand what the changing bar on the shield meant until I pressed space). Very enjoyable!

mrbell270 2021-10-05 20:51

@itzemii Thanks for your feedback :) I hope to improve my gamedesign even more for next LD :)

mythalore 2021-10-05 23:20

Loved the presentation and really got a super hexagon vibe from the gameplay, very on theme too!

mrbell270 2021-10-05 23:35

@mythalore Thanks!

agrdev 2021-10-05 23:48

Perfect audio and visuals! I liked the overall rhythm and the emitted particles sound effects so much, so I let them flee on purpose to hear the beautiful sound composition :slight_smile:

timeload 2021-10-06 00:39

Very fun game :)

dsoberdan 2021-10-06 02:15

Easily the most polished game I've played in this jam so far. It caught my attention in the list because my game also involves unstable nuclei lol. I mention in my description how I spent too much time polishing and ran out of time for building out more levels, but this puts mine to shame in that regard haha.

Everyone has already said it, from the ambient music, the sound cues (that had multiple pitches for each object! Great touch), the particle effects, the transition between all the menus, the risk/reward of using your full shield but potentially trapping electrons inside, and on and on. All the more impressive as a Compo. Really great work, man!

mathiouza 2021-10-06 02:51

239 seconds first try. Is that great?

I really loved the sound design on this game! The aesthetic is really neat too. I liked the gameplay, my only complaint would be that it would be great to have a last possibility to save the core to be hit by an electron.

Other than that, it's a very cool game! Great work!

dnabro 2021-10-06 03:06

Very fun to play, reminds me of a mix of pong combined with a multiball in Arkanoid. Great visual polish on it too, no complaints on anything. Great job!

guinytime 2021-10-06 03:55

I love this game, the design is simple and the sound is appropriate!

I felt good when I moved the paddle on the top of the hexagon, but when I moved the paddle on the bottom of the hexagon, I found that pressing D made the paddle move to the left, which was a little counterintuitive. Maybe it's better to use mouse controls when facing round maps?

mrbell270 2021-10-06 09:42

@agrdev Ha, I should make sound of bad things less pleasant then :)? Thanks for your feedback!

mrbell270 2021-10-06 09:42

@timeload Thanks for playing!

mrbell270 2021-10-06 09:48

@dsoberdan Thanks for your review, I am flattered.

My goal on this LD was "simple, but mastered", so no rush on levels and no overscoping.

I will leave some advices on your game, if you don't mind:)

mrbell270 2021-10-06 09:50

@mathiouza Thanks for playing. I got to 150-ish only, so you played my game better than me :)

mrbell270 2021-10-06 09:52

@dnabro thanks for your feedback! Almost every game mechanics is stolen from somewhere, am I right :D? Our job is to combine them into something new :)

mrbell270 2021-10-06 09:55

@guinytime Thanks for playing and thanks for your idea. I don't know why it never occurred to me to make mouse controls, but for touchscreen I plan spinning thumb:)

dsoberdan 2021-10-06 15:09

@mrbell270 If you found the time I'd definitely appreciate it :D

ddolgov 2021-10-06 23:33

This is very polished and almost ready to production game. There is nothing more to say. Exellent job!

hwaet 2021-10-07 02:49

I love how chill how this is. The audio matches with it very nicely. It's almost meditative. I really enjoyed it!

xlambein 2021-10-07 11:01

A nice, chill entry. I especially like the art and sound design. Small detail: it wasn't clear at first that I needed to keep the energy in, more than keeping the electrons out.

I like that the electrons' trajectories are bent by the EM force :>

potkirland 2021-10-07 11:18

nice minimalistic game. i think if the particles were a little slow paced and reduced in numbers with some sound plays this game can be made into a quite well relaxed and chill journey. good job keep up the good work :thumbsup:

cogcomp 2021-10-07 18:06

A very relaxing game and pretty. Reminded me of super hexagon due to its shape and they way the shield was controlled, but very much an entirely different kind of game. Nice!

mrbell270 2021-10-07 19:16

@ddolgov Thank you!

P.S. You are from Russia, aren't you?

mrbell270 2021-10-07 19:28

@hwaet Thank you for you time!

oillen 2021-10-07 21:18

(+) easy to use controls

(-) random emitting & electron bombarding can screw you over sometimes

(+) detailed description of the game in the game

(+) Gameplay is actually easy to undestand

(o) I would have liked a "stay in the game mechanic", e.g. to restabilitize the nucleus

(o) ...and a little bit harder

(+) fitting soundeffects & useful sounddesign

(+) fitting soundtrack, almost cosy

(+) sound is mutable, +1 on quality

overall: I've played it 5 times in a row

mrbell270 2021-10-07 22:01

@oillen Thanks for your review. I will think about your "o"s and "-"s while rebuilding it for android :)

mrbell270 2021-10-07 23:59

@xlambein Thanks for your feedback!

mrbell270 2021-10-08 00:17

@potkirland Thank you! I will keep your feedback in mind :)

mrbell270 2021-10-08 00:30

@cogcomp Thank you! I was trying to get "super hexagon"-ish vibe and aesthetics, but in much more relaxing and chilling way. I hope, I managed:)

cauldron 2021-10-08 10:48

An impressive level of polish. You really nailed in terms of scope.

geckoo1337 2021-10-08 19:09

Really good game with a clever gameplay - something which reminds me a litle bit Hextris, but more polished. Quiet mood. The main aesthetic is gorgeous - like the background music. It works well as expected. A really good entry. Well done ++

mrbell270 2021-10-08 20:28

@cauldron Thank you for your feedback!

mrbell270 2021-10-08 20:30

@geckoo1337 Thanks! Спасибо :)

tjm 2021-10-09 15:12

Very nice visuals, and I like the advanced gameplay of using deflected electrons to deflect other electrons!

My one criticism would be the main menu/instructions screen; it's a lot of information at once, and the thin text makes everything feel a little hard to read and bland. It might be worth splitting the instructions over a few screens, presented in sequence, ideally with their own diagrams to make it a little clearer?

But otherwise it's good fun, glad I found it!

mrbell270 2021-10-09 22:54

@tjm Thank you! I decided to simplify my project by setting all up in one scene, to be honest :) But for android release I am planning to redesign UI, so thanks for your suggestions.

runuchok 2021-10-10 14:56

Great game! I can see this as Ketchapp time-killer. Overall quality is high and this is awesome as COMPO entry!

ddolgov 2021-10-11 22:04

@mrbell270 ес ит из :)

mrbell270 2021-10-11 22:58

@ddolgov Приятно узнать, что в России есть люди, увлеченные геймдевом:) Пока мне доводилось общаться только с иностранцами

mrbell270 2021-10-13 19:42

@runuchok Thank you!

kleinzach 2021-10-16 16:25

I really enjoyed this! The mechanics were simple, but felt fully utilized. I also really like the hexagonal look mixed with the atoms. Just great job all around!

marvin-chong 2021-10-16 16:30

This is a very impressive game for a compo! The tone and mood is amazing. Everything, from the visuals, music and sfx really gave off a good vibe. I like the visuals for when the nucleus is about to spit out something. There is a nice informative and beautiful charging animation, and a nice sfx that gets me ready. The arrows that show you where the electrons are going to come from is a good touch as well.

However, I don't think the gameplay is very fun. After deflecting a few balls and pressing spacebar a few times, the gameplay becomes very repetitive. It's understandable that since this is a compo, not many game mechanics could be added. But if this game were to be expanded upon, more game mechanics would be nice.

Overall, a beautiful and well done game.

ivan-berlin 2021-10-16 19:53

I can't believe you made this solo! I enjoyed the core mechanics, the sound design, and the music a lot. The gameplay loop and music can get a bit repetitive, but the gameplay has enough variations for a difficult "survival" style game and the music does well at being ambient. If you ever felt like adding to the project, adding waves/rounds that add discrete instead of continuous difficulty increase (more electrons to deal with and such) could spice things up a bit. Great job!

mrbell270 2021-10-17 16:55

@kleinzach Thanks!

mrbell270 2021-10-17 17:09

@marvin-chong @ivan-berlin Thank you for your feedback! I will look into expanding mechanics :)

kakapoy 2021-10-20 15:01

Good time killer ! well done for the compo, The art and music was really good. The idea that we have to concentrate on both electrons coming and stop them, and the particles that we want to absorb is really good and really entertaining.

mrbell270 2021-10-20 17:59

@kakapoy Thanks!
