LD47 — Stuck in a loop

TANKNAT by icxon 2020-10-10T20:04:22Z

Really polished fun game! The difficulty curve grows at a good rate and the collectibles/upgrades are a great touch. The top-down puzzle style works really well with the theme and I found myself engaged through the whole playthrough! I was nodding along with the music too--definitely adds another layer to the run-and-gun mechanic! It feels like a complete package. Awesome job!

Loop Wood Shire by C64Gamer 2020-10-12T00:49:16Z

Fun play on the theme! It felt like a medieval-style Dance Dance Revolution for my fingers! hahaha Charming soundtrack too! Great job!

POKKO by gord10ahmet 2020-10-10T20:34:46Z

Beautiful graphics and great 8-bit audio. Having the game contained in a Game Boy was a really nice touch too. The story is creepy and the ending was a great play on the theme. Awesome job!

Debug Or Die by Balance686 2020-10-12T21:35:21Z

The combination of the theme with a game about programming is great! Simple graphics with the upbeat synth works really well and the puzzles were pleasantly unforgiving (being able to restart at the beginning of the level was much appreciated!). I had a lot of run playing it and I laughed a few times with the puzzles. Awesome job! Shout out from a fellow AB dev!!

Hypervisor by DoctorMozart 2020-10-08T06:14:51Z

Really cool to see a ttrpg for the jam! Your scope is impressive and the rulebook reads well. I rolled a Crawler.class and I am looking forward to getting some friends together to play! Great job on it!

Within The Threes by JohnnyR 2020-10-08T04:18:54Z

The fantastic audio, music, and art make for a really cool mix of relaxing and creepy atmosphere. I really enjoyed how the forest became progressive spookier and the things you come across are unnerving! Great job!

The A.R.T.S. Loop by TarvisPlays 2020-10-10T19:47:55Z

Fun little puzzle platformer with good pixel art and, as a few people have already mentioned, a strong dash of Portal vibes and humor! Though it was short, it offered a nice range of obstacles and solutions. I hope you keep working on it! Great job!

Infinite rails by BOOtak 2020-10-12T03:33:57Z

This one surprised me: it was slow but that slowness spoke to the message of the game and the use of the theme. I enjoyed it as much as it frustrated me when I would get caught in a seemingly infinite loop and the simple graphics conveyed a sense of loneliness that went deep. Really cool art game!

Dead Hand by Kszaku 2020-10-10T20:25:20Z

Anxiety-inducing text-based game with a cool Command Prompt aesthetic; the minimalist style definitely added to the theme. I jumped at the first warning beep haha Really great but scary atmosphere and the computer lag adds a whole other layer of tension! Great job on it!

Stuck in an inner tube! by UkuleleFury 2020-10-08T04:41:39Z

The music and art has some great NES-era nostalgic feels and the movement was smooth. The difficulty level is just enough to make you mad but still want to keep playing! Hahaha Great job!

Just another Day by Jeremia 2020-10-08T04:58:53Z

Fun play on the theme! The art and music is really charming and the scavenger hunt of finding all the clues and opening the safe was a nice touch. Great ending too! Fantastic job!

Crocodial by David-Liddelow 2020-10-12T03:24:35Z

Definitely one of the more unique takes on the theme! I had a lot of fun rolling down the mountain and the zany music complements the gameplay nicely!

Loop Wave by Skvader_418 2020-10-08T06:05:21Z

Fun shooter with charming art! Cool addition of a day and night mode! Great job!

Looping by guimoliveira 2020-10-12T21:15:18Z

Fun puzzles with cool audio and music! Great job!

Orbiter by Sieghart 2020-10-08T05:56:04Z

Nice twist of the on-the-rails arcade shooter with some serious challenge! Really replayable and smooth movement/controls!

Clockstop Jane by inanimatecarbonrod 2020-10-08T04:32:58Z

Cool steampunk aesthetic and smooth movement/controls. I enjoyed the loop mechanic and it worked really well with the puzzles. However, I was sad to see it crash during the Robodog boss fight because I was quite invested by that point! Looking forward to the post-compo version!

Lupi by JohnWayyyne 2020-10-08T04:01:41Z

Fun puzzle platformer with a spoopy vibe! The art and animation look great and I really like that the record loop is limited so you have to manage it carefully! Hope you keep working on it!

CycleCycle by colejparker 2020-10-12T21:20:23Z

Great to see a simple but fun multiplayer game for the jam! The Tron aesthetic works well with the theme and the graphics and audio/sound offer a cool retro vibe! Great job! Shout out from a fellow AB dev!

BL0CK by GregoryBlomquist 2020-10-06T03:53:57Z

@ukulelefury Hi, UkuleleFury! You want to change how the green blocks react to the player by going into different doors around the level and then knock the blocks into the yellow goal!

BL0CK by GregoryBlomquist 2020-10-06T04:10:51Z

@johnwayyyne Thanks so much! I hope the manual helped after you read it! Hahaha yeah, even during playtesting I was tense every time knowing it was going to happen!

BL0CK by GregoryBlomquist 2020-10-06T04:14:37Z

@5daydreams Thanks so much! We tried really hard to get the retro feel so it's great to hear that you enjoyed it!

BL0CK by GregoryBlomquist 2020-10-06T04:16:29Z

@inanimatecarbonrod Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it!

BL0CK by GregoryBlomquist 2020-10-06T06:19:51Z

@manubown Wow! Thank you so much for the glowing review! I am so happy you enjoyed it!

BL0CK by GregoryBlomquist 2020-10-06T20:43:14Z

@Vem Thank you for your feedback and I am glad you enjoyed it!

@Melvinng Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!

@Sieghart Thank you!

@Skvader-418 Awesome! That is exactly what we were going for! Yeah, it takes a bit to get used, and the jump scares still get me too and we made them! Hahaha

@DoctorMozart That is fantastic to hear--getting the horror part right was one of our main goals! And thank you for such kind feedback. The manual was so fun to write so it's great to hear you enjoyed it!

@TarvisPlays Thanks! So happy to hear you enjoyed it! It is easy to feel lost at the start so that makes sense! Fun fast though: the original version is a fictional game we made up for the story!

Seriously, everyone, thank you all so much for playing our game and for the fantastic feedback!

BL0CK by GregoryBlomquist 2020-10-06T20:49:04Z

@a333 Hahahaha so glad we could make rectangles scary!! Wow, that is amazing feedback--thank you so much! Yeah, the game is meant to be tricky but we hope that adds to the retro feel. And we love the manual too so I am happy you enjoyed it! We miss the joy the reading game manuals so we wanted to bring the feeling back!

BL0CK by GregoryBlomquist 2020-10-07T02:21:32Z

@kszaku Right?? We thought it would be fun to mix all those elements together so I am so happy you enjoyed it!

BL0CK by GregoryBlomquist 2020-10-07T02:22:22Z

@tarvisplays Hahaha thank you so much! It was a lot fun to create the story around the game!

BL0CK by GregoryBlomquist 2020-10-07T23:04:34Z

@kaganobik The game is so much better with headphones on so that's great! Hahaha I am happy to hear the slowness of your playthrough did not affect how you enjoyed it! Thanks!

@etrealjunior Thank you so much--that's great to hear! I'll definitely check your game out too!

@c64gamer Thanks! We love the Atari style too so I am glad it spoke to you and that you had fun playing it!

@aquanim Hahahaha oh, no! I think playing the game in the dark with headphones before bed really pushes the creepiness factor but it does not help the sleep factor! Hope you did not have any Burlap Beast nightmares!

@bootak +10 retro nostalgia points--yes!! We absolutely love game manuals so it's so cool to hear that you enjoyed it! Oh, that's a cool combo to read it with the background music. We tried to tie everything together so I am happy it worked out! Thank you so much for your really generous feedback!

@guimoliveira Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!

@colejparker Thank you! We wanted to have a sense of progression with the looping Atari gameplay so it's great to hear that it paid off! Yeah--the manual was so fun to create and I am so happy to see how much people enjoy it!

BL0CK by GregoryBlomquist 2020-10-09T05:39:45Z

@abregado Thanks a lot! It felt right to keep with the Atari feel and make the manual so I am thrilled it's getting so much love!

@merrow Thank you so much for the feedback! I love the manual and we had a lot of fun creating it. It was a blast to write it alongside the game!

@tuatarian Thank you! We wanted to have the Atari vibes come out in everything so we are really glad it did!

@eugenik Thanks so much for the feedback! Glad you enjoyed it!

BL0CK by GregoryBlomquist 2020-10-10T19:36:40Z

@hicko Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!

@balance686 Hey fellow AB dev!! Thank you so much! We really wanted to inject as much creepy vibes as we could and the CRT offers a fun mix of nostalgia and spookiness. The game manual was so fun to write and it's so cool to see the reaction it is receiving! Game manuals were such a key part of the game experience before digital downloads and we miss them!

BL0CK by GregoryBlomquist 2020-10-12T00:42:08Z

@spacestrawberriesstudio Thanks! Glad it could offer you some scares!

@giordas Wow! Thank you so much for the great feedback! We played some Atari games during the jam to make sure we were offering a strong reference!

@etrealjunior Thank you so much for the kind words! Happy you enjoyed it!

@carlix I am sorry you felt dumb--you are definitely not dumb! The difficulty curve is very much in line with our aims of making an Atari-style game so it makes sense that it might feel tricky! The manual offers a breakdown of which doors lead to which rooms. Try using different rooms to make the blocks react in different ways!

BL0CK by GregoryBlomquist 2020-10-27T21:53:07Z

@arron-fowler Thank you so much for the kind feedback! It was tricky to convey horror/suspense with the blocks at first but we are proud of what we could do!

@blue-pin-studio Thanks a lot! Yeah, it can get overwhelming especially when the corrupted block starts hunting you down!

@f1krazy Thanks so much! The audio and effects are my favourite parts and I am very happy to hear the manual helped you out! Level 6 is tricky so that makes sense! Even if you did not go back we still appreciate you trying it out!

Resurrection by etrealjunior 2020-10-10T20:45:45Z

Interesting play on the theme and the graphics are simple but charming. Good job!

Containment Vector by vem 2020-10-08T05:06:48Z

Really enjoyed the arcade-style shooter and I always love cosmic horror themes! Solid replayability too. Great job!

iLoop - the 2D endless runner game of a robot stuck in a loop :) by melvinng 2020-10-08T05:50:36Z

Fun runner with beautiful art and charming audio and music. Almost relaxing gameplay with a good rhythm of obstacles!

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Falling Time by g12345 2021-05-13T05:28:11Z

Fun arcade-style game with frantic pace! The back and forth scroll made for some interesting planning and challenge. A bit more visual feedback and a chippy soundtrack and this would be a great Atari game!

Falling apart by yetanother 2021-05-13T05:39:57Z

Cute story and a beautiful aesthetic! The line colours were a bit difficult to see against the background (especially the right side as mentioned by others) and the collision boxes are much larger than the objects which caused a lot of splash damage. A note about controls: The right drop is moved by J and L rather than the onscreen prompt of J and K so that was confusing for a bit… Overall, a nice change of pace for a game jam game that was an interesting blend of relaxing and reflexes! Good job!

Barkcheology by fusionnist 2021-05-13T03:31:49Z

Great job!! Having two different game modes is really impressive and the mining puzzles were fun with a nice balance of difficulty and fun. The overworld is simple and charming while the puzzles and shop have fantastic art! Also, groovy tune for the opening (has some Demon Tower feels).

Eldritch Depths by simex 2021-05-13T22:55:32Z

Really fun retro dungeon crawler! Love the epic rock soundtrack and the art is equal parts charming and terror. The progression system felt rewarding and the choice between power-ups was a nice touch. I really enjoyed playing the game and I would love to see it expanded after Ludum Dare! Excellent job!

What Lies Below by Roka Josh 2021-05-13T04:07:58Z

Simple but effective art and the music is just the right amount of ominous. I love the tech tree and there is a real sense of progress as you unlock new abilities and dive down deeper. The ending is the perfect amount of creepy too! I really enjoyed this game! Have you considered expanding it following LD?

Cthulhu's Deep Dream by retrome 2021-05-18T02:20:32Z

Great job on the charming Metroidvania! Controls felt good and the music and sound were great additions. However, the camera effect was distracting. Overall, I really enjoyed it!

They Hear You by SakuH 2021-05-13T05:08:28Z

This game is such a great combination of music, art, and design. Procedurally generated levels were a nice touch, especially for a game jam, and the enemies were scary! The controls were somewhat unresponsive, which made dodging the fast moles more difficult than necessary, but the overall feel of the game is solid! Well done!

Voyager by RajatG 2021-05-18T02:07:19Z

Impressive for a solo game! Fun, little run and dodge style gameplay. Like a few people have mentioned, music or sound would add a lot to the experience, but I still enjoyed it! Good job!

The Deep Underneath by creepyface 2021-05-13T04:57:59Z

I love the art and aesthetics: the abstract really enhances the horror. The enemy designs are great, and the levels have a surprising amount of detail. The camera lapse makes things a bit tricky but the progress save does not make it frustrating. Great job!

Stories in the Stars by GregoryBlomquist 2021-04-27T05:29:25Z

@arnold-990 Thank you!

@creepyface Thank you so much for your feedback! We actually updated the "How to Play" on both this page and in the game in response to your review! We hope you enjoyed it and, if you didn't finish yet, will try!

@anniv4x Thanks so much for your thorough review! We tried to add as many little details as we could to really capture the ambience... It is really easy to get lost in the game, but there is the "radar" (using Enter) that points you towards the next constellation!

@psv-games-studio Thank you! Definitely check out the artist we used if you like the track. We aspire to get that kind of audio design one day! haha

Stories in the Stars by GregoryBlomquist 2021-05-04T05:36:59Z

@g12345 We are so happy to hear you enjoyed it! We definitely took inspiration from the star gazing as kids!

Stories in the Stars by GregoryBlomquist 2021-05-18T02:38:01Z

@gildar76 Thanks for the kind review! And duly noted about the hints... Our aim was to have players wander, but that can be a tricky thing for a game jam game!

@rajatg Thank you so much for all the feedback! Yeah, the last story is lost in the main game when you complete the constellations... The text was difficult to read on the final zoom out, but we will definitely fix that if we continue with it! Puzzle hints: good idea! We will take all of your suggestions into consideration if it goes into a post jam release!

@retrome Thanks a lot!! Duly noted on the read speed at the beginning (that's an easy fix!). That should not have happened so thanks for the bug report! hahaha Yeah, we will definitely add the text back in on the last zoom out if we work on it after LD48!

@jokubasg Thank you! Fixing the How to Play looks like it is at the top of your fix list!

Again, thank you all for playing our game and the great feedback. We really appreciate it!

Deeper Into The Forest by SnappyPath 2021-05-13T04:46:17Z

Beautifully rendered graphics and I love the one-the-rails shooter mechanics. Surprisingly chill game with a fun reaction timer. Nice job!

Deepest fish by JokubasG 2021-05-18T02:51:17Z

Good game! I agree with everyone else about the hourglass power-ups and the scrolling design was a bit distracting. Overall, nice focus on the jam theme!

Fly Away by PSV Games Studio 2021-05-13T05:20:55Z

Good game with a steady difficulty curve and satisfying end. The music was good, but the epic soundtrack felt out of place… The gameplay has much more fun and light-heartedness to it! Nevertheless, the arcade-style feel, and the overall execution, made the game enjoyable! Good job!

Marble Maze: Descent by Ohmikron 2021-05-13T04:32:08Z

Nice and enjoyable mechanics and a nice soundtrack (too bad it cuts out quite early). The branching solution in puzzle 3 was a nice touch but the camera shift really adds an unnecessary complication to finishing it. I also experienced the loop back to level 1, but I enjoyed what I saw!

LD49 — Unstable

B1OCK by GregoryBlomquist 2021-10-08T02:53:55Z

@jeff-kerman Glad you enjoyed it! The late night coding really helped us lean into the story and atmosphere hahaha Nope! We were going for the clunky feel of Atari controls so each step is one press... Playtesting definitely made the ol' wrists bark!

@denzil-gomes Wow! Thank you so much for the comparison! As 90s kids, ghost stories/urban legends and video games are the perfect combo.

@zachsbutt Thanks so much! Yeah, hunting for the evidence definitely takes a while!

@markveligod Glad you liked it! We had a lot of fun writing it during our late night coding sessions!

@chillertyp Thanks! Mixing horror with simple graphics is tricky, but we love the final product!
