LD42 — Running out of space

Running out of space by Predominant 2018-08-13T09:38:16Z

This is super fun! I like the isometric presentation and the simplified models. The gameplay is very well done, and has a surprising amount of depth. This would be amazing with multiplayer! I did think the movement was a little slow, especially when changing direction, and I had some trouble placing boxes into the scanner. I would love to see this polished and released as a full game in the future!

minicipality by Remco 2018-08-13T17:08:09Z

Is that a pixelization effect when you place a building? It's subtle but it really makes placing things feel good.

Mini Organizer 3000 by dankar 2018-08-13T17:18:03Z

This is a game that is exactly as simple as it needs to be. The mechanic is really easy to pick up but complex enough that the puzzles are really interesting. Great job!

Files and Felines by phi 2018-08-13T09:17:27Z

I love the little stapler! Great use of sound effects too. The dialogue is funny and fits the game. If anything, I would like the goal of each level to be more explicit. Good job!

Hose Moose by StabAlarash 2018-08-13T17:48:10Z

I had some input problems on the HTML5 version which I want to mention first because there is still some time left in the jam to fix them. On level three, when there was a lot of fire around, the framerate dropped pretty noticeably, and my movement inputs started getting stuck. The character would move until I pressed and released the key again. I had a similar bug exporting my game to HTML5 and it was super frustrating, so hopefully it's not too hard to figure out!

With that out of the way: this is super fun! The music is extremely catchy, and I love the character. I like how the refill mechanic makes fires that are farther away from ponds more difficult to manage. I want to echo both of the points that @tuism made too. The moment when a fire dies should be a little more obvious and fires should take a bit less time to put out. Overall, I really the game. Good job!

The Espacito by Wendel Scardua 2018-08-13T10:43:47Z

Very fun! It's a solid interpretation of the classic space-shooter. I like the laser walls and I love the parallax stars in the background.

Running Away by crastinator 2018-08-13T08:49:34Z

I did not expect this character to bounce off of a balloon and fly into space. That was hilarious. The spacesuit animation is a great touch too.

That was fun! I did have a bit of a hard time with the platforming in the first stage. I think being able to quickly tap the button for a short jump and hold it for a long jump would help that a lot. Otherwise, I like your interpretation of the theme. It's silly and fits the tone of the game well. Good job!

That is one satisfying crunch sound.

Grid Weaver by HacksawUnit 2018-08-13T15:37:01Z

That is some juicy animation! The art is cute and colorful which really suits the game.

I really like the controls! They're definitely difficult but I think it adds a nice dimension to dodging the bullets.

Stop the Darkness by Florian van Strien 2018-08-13T16:32:20Z

The adjacency mechanic really does add a lot of depth to what would otherwise be a standard idler. It's a very solid game.

Crystalmancer by Crowno 2018-08-13T11:35:37Z

This game is difficult, but in a very satisfying way. It keeps me coming back for more. I like the back-and-forth mechanic between the crystal spells and the hammer. I do wish the hammer would clear a larger area at a time. The sprites are well done and fit together stylistically. Great job!

It's simple, fun, and funny. I love the bigfoot voices. Good job!

MinoFall by Ashment 2018-08-13T18:27:24Z

This is a really interesting take on tetris!

Der Raum by alexfalkenberg 2018-08-13T09:06:29Z

First off, I love the retro styling and the dual-stick controls. It feels good to move around and to shoot. I like the mechanic of escaping through the top or bottom of the screen, and I like the enemy designs. The audio does need some work, as you mentioned in your description, and I'd like to see the other enemy types implemented if you ever continued development. Overall, it was very fun! Good job.

Block Breaker by Fenerax 2018-08-13T11:51:51Z

It's a nice blend of tetris and match three. Good job!

Evolucity - Build as high as you can! by Mazzletov 2018-08-12T21:39:45Z

I saw this in the feed yesterday and thought it was a great concept. It's fun! Good use of physics and good application of the theme.

Falling Ecosystem by sprvrn 2018-08-13T08:38:10Z

Nice game! I had fun playing it. I like the mix of resources and buildings. The sprites and audio work well together, and I especially liked the particle effect when tiles fell down and hit the bottom. Like some of the other commenters, I had some difficulty understanding what things were and how to get them at first. I think more tooltips, and maybe a tutorial level would help a lot if you wanted to continue development. Overall great job!

Getting Some Space by Qazikol 2018-08-13T15:49:55Z

Short, but very sweet! Honestly, I was a little blown away when the guitar came in. Something about the transition caught me by surprise and really struck a wonderful feeling. Fantastic job.

Wonderful concept!

Eject Tape by star-sought 2018-08-13T09:08:06Z

@fenerax That was a problem I suspected the beginning might have, thanks for the feedback! I'm glad you liked the music and mood!

Eject Tape by star-sought 2018-08-13T16:18:17Z

@qazikol I'm actually thrilled you enjoyed it because I had the exact same reaction to your game. Aesthetics team unite!

Eject Tape by star-sought 2018-08-13T16:54:13Z

@derek-volker Thanks for the great feedback! I'm really glad you enjoyed it.

Eject Tape by star-sought 2018-08-13T19:01:06Z

@alexfalkenberg Thanks for the feedback! Bits of story and set pieces are exactly what I plan to add when I resume development. I'd like more complex platforming too. The game originally had jumping and teleporting, but I couldn't quite get the feeling right, so I scoped down and focused on what I had.

Eject Tape by star-sought 2018-08-15T12:18:04Z

Thank you everyone for the wonderful feedback. It's been an absolute blast participating in the dare and interacting with the community, and I really can't wait for the next one! In the meantime, I'll be continuing development on *Eject Tape* with your feedback in mind, under a new project at [star-sought.itch.io/eject-tape](star-sought.itch.io/eject-tape). The submission, of course, will stay the same for future playthroughs and ratings, and I'll continue to play, review, and comment for ld42 until the play+rate period is over.

I honestly can't overstate how much your complements and feedback impact me, especially those of you who found the game touching or emotional. Communicating that feeling is the goal of all of my work and to have been successful at that is deeply fulfilling. Thank you again and I hope to see some of you again in the future!

A blob with a destination - LD42 by Dries Vuylsteke 2018-08-13T11:22:23Z

Your little blob animations are so cute! It's pretty difficult to control. I think air movement would make things feel more responsive. Movement and control are so essential to this type of game so if you continue development definitely focus on that! Congratulations on your first compo!

Feed cats by Noini 2018-08-13T08:51:13Z

When I click on your itch.io links, I get a 404 error. Are you sure they're correct? I'd love to try your game.

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Nuclear Loop by Gorr 2020-10-06T13:28:46Z

Great puzzles! Puzzles are hard to get right, but each of these had a very satisfying solution!

Infinite rails by BOOtak 2020-10-06T14:04:08Z

I love the wireframe graphics! It's a great aesthetic.

Lost In The Woods by PatrickJR 2020-10-06T13:15:59Z

I really like this! It's a great use of the theme. I love the feeling of being lost, and I think the misaligned world tiles are a great way to achieve that in a video game. The first time I wrapped back around to my tent was a fun shock. The torch placement is a smart feature--it's something active to do as you wander that gives you the sense that you're making progress. I think without the torches, the game would rely too heavily on memorization and random wandering, and would become frustrating much more quickly. Great job!

Oh--I also loved all of the little set pieces around the world. It was very exciting every time I found a new area.
