LD38 — A Small World

Bubble Boy by rjhelms 2017-05-15T14:46:37Z

The bouncing physics are really hard but also quite cool! A little more feeling of control might've been nice, though, sometimes it felt a bit luck-based. I didn't like having to restart each time I lost three lives, but I guess that is part of the retro feeling. The graphics are quite nice for a compo game. I feel the use of the theme could've been a little bit better.

Minor points: - Press FIRE to begin could've been worded a bit differently, made it seem like you could shoot (very minor and maybe subjective, I won't deduct points for this of course). - I liked how you were consistent to one theme with the enemies!

Sex is Nature by chauchau 2017-05-02T13:27:43Z

The title felt a bit clickbaity. It didn't really feel like it had something to do with sex, although I can see what you mean and how the would could be related. I must admit that I didn't complete the game fully, as it felt really slow and I couldn't really find anything anymore.

The controls were a bit wonky, although I did get used to them after a little while.

The graphics were quite nice.

I liked the idea of changing the world through your actions, although I quit before I really saw that.

A Small World by akai_0okami 2017-05-02T13:17:14Z

I like the idea of this, but like others have said it feels a bit unfinished. Also, I couldn't find out how to select two figures for the big snow world. The requests I got before that were a bit easy. If you do continue with the game, I'd try to add some more options for creativity for the player. There are many options here! Also, maybe you could add some sort of management system. For example, you could get money for the snow globes you make, or have upgrades to make new snow globe parts. I liked this interpretation of the theme!

Micro-World Defense by SaxOps1 2017-05-15T11:29:38Z

The graphics of this game are really nice! The gameplay is a little bit simple, although that's not necessarily bad of course. I would've preferred being able to rotate in any direction, I also think that would look a bit better. The game was pretty hard when not using the button mashing exploit.

Minor points: - Powerups or similar would've been cool! - I liked how you could still see the enemies that defeated you for a little while. However, this did make restart a little bit longer than I would've hoped.

Antology by ragnta 2017-05-14T22:33:04Z

The visuals are very much programmer art, but (or and...) quite nice/funny because of that.

I like the idea of the game! The combat system is really simple, maybe a little bit too simple. It feels like there's really little strategy, and that the game is a little bit luck-dependent, especially in the beginning (I sometimes got killed really quickly by level 1 enemies even though I was level 1 as well). Maybe some special attacks would've helped, and I think that should have even been possible in the short compo time. Maybe next time :P

Minor points: - I feel making the color of your sprite your back color would've been nice. - Going down/up in horizontal corridors into one-tile wide corridors doesn't work very nicely. - I like how the ants are all actually animated!

Rift World by Lenon Kramer 2017-05-02T12:37:30Z

The game looks very nice and I think there may be good gameplay, but the experience for new players like me is rough.

The game is pretty hard to understand. I read the instructions and backstory but it was still hard to know what to do. The game also started immediately at a quick pace. Even when I did know what to do I was clicking around frantically and didn't know how well I was doing until the You Failed screen. The graphics look good, although I think the user interface could have been prettier. Also, it could have been a bit easier to use. The clickboxes of the actions are pretty small, while you want to switch actions really quickly. The theme has been used okay.

To end a bit more positively, I think that if you improve the interface and tutorial a bit, I think this may be a really good game!

Critter by Skruffye 2017-05-15T11:49:46Z

This game looks amazing and the mood is great! However, the gameplay itself is a little bit simple. This is not bad per se, as this contributes to the relaxing mood, but there are very few options for you to play with. An additional element would have added lots of extra combinations which could've been fun, but that may have been infeasible for a jam game.

Minor points: - Scrolling with the middle mouse button is a bit slow and scrolling with the arrow keys doesn't work very nicely as then your hands are quite close together (on a TKL keyboard, at least). - A restart button would've been nice,. - The colors of the bars weren't really clear, some sort of icons would've helped. - It was really cool that there were extra combinations by adding less or more of an element!

Pixel Town by automatonvx 2017-05-15T22:51:06Z

Nice to see another city builder game, and fun to see that our games are so different! I liked the idea of a city builder RTS, and you executed it quite well! I just thought the enemies didn't seem to be a huge part of the game. The graphics are pretty cool, especially for the really limited amount of pixels you used. There's some pretty nice music, and sound effects too, which is great.

Minor points: - The roads took a lot of space. - It was possible to get "stuck" in the beginning by not having money and also not having enough money to buy something. - There was some help in-game, but some more would've been nice. - A pause function would've been nice. - It wasn't very clear what the maximum happiness was, if there was one. - Having some more buildings would be cool! - I liked that there were two scenarios, great to make that in the limited time of a jam.

Overall, lots of minor points that could have been better but no big ones in my opinion, so great entry!

Unnatural Resources by codyhansen 2017-05-02T13:04:44Z

The graphics were pretty good! The gameplay was fun for a little while, but it could've been a bit more interesting. Simple games are nice, but a bit more complexity later on would probably have helped this.

Minor points: - The ending was a little abrubt. - I didn't hear any sound. - I liked how the graphics of the planets changed as they died more.

Timmy and the Snowflake by C0nst4ntin 2017-05-14T22:11:36Z

I quite liked the graphics, especially those of the player. There could have been a few more animations, though. Also, sometimes the tiles seemed to glitch around a little, but that's no big problem of course. I liked that there was music, but it was a little repetitive.

As others already said, the controls could have been a bit better. I understand that this is your second platformer though, for that it's already pretty good! I didn't get stuck, at least, I know that was different in my second platformer. :P Also, I didn't play very long (as I really couldn't get used to the controls and sometimes fell into a pit without a way to get out without restarting, please don't have that mechanic) but I didn't really encounter any gameplay beyond jumping around. I think that would've improved the game, as there are lots of platformers already so it's nice to have some unique gameplay. But maybe I just didn't look long enough!

Minor points: - The bottom text on the menu is pretty hard to read. - The jump sound effect doesn't really fit. - I liked the intro very much!

SnowGlobe Warrior by Ethan Allwood 2017-05-14T21:52:46Z

The game looks great and there's music too, so the atmosphere is great. Sound effects could've improved this even further. However, like others said, the gameplay doesn't feel very good. There's no real feedback when you hit or get hit, except for the healthbar getting lower. Also, the game is quite hard, but each individual hit on you only does very little damage and so doesn't feel like it has very much consequence. I prefer games where each hit on you feels painful, but where it's also a bit easier to block.

Lil Planet by BladeSides 2017-05-02T12:54:31Z

I really liked the graphics. The gameplay could have been a bit better.

The game started a bit unexpectedly. A menu or something like that would've been nice. Also, I couldn't find out how to restart after I died. After that, the gameplay was okay. I think it was sometimes a bit hard to see what part of hazards would damage you. I still did have some fun with the game though.

The egg going around the world was a little frustrating as it went a bit quickly, but still a nice mechanic.

I liked the season system! I just didn't live long enough to really experience it.

The Whole truth about Nature Selection (16+) by pascalman 2017-05-15T14:17:48Z

There doesn't seem to be a jam version, so I rated this one as how I think it would be without post-jam additions, but please do add a jam version for fairness. Fun idea for a game! The gameplay is a bit simple but still quite fun. The graphics fit the game well and the sound effects are really weird, but also quite funny, so you get some humor points for that (one of the only games I found that actually has this :)).

It would be great if you could rate [my game](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/the-final-world) as well.

Bitverse by klekky 2017-05-15T08:22:23Z

This game is actually pretty good! The graphics are solid, the controls work nicely after having understood them, and the gameplay feels good overall. Maybe some more in-game control help would be even better, there already was the help that you needed to press X but there could have been a bit more.

I couldn't really find out if there was any planet beyond the first, if there wasn't this game is a little short. But I did read in the description that there should be more, my fault for not finding out how to get there I guess.

Minor points: - Enemies shoot from outside of the screen, this doesn't feel nice. - I love how the enviroment on the planet looks and feels, with all the leafs and trees!

A Small Hell by psychead 2017-05-01T13:20:01Z

I liked the idea of the game and enjoyed trying to figure out the puzzle!

The graphics and music are nice and set a nice mood! There could have been some (more) sound effects, though. Also, all ghosts you could talk to looked the same.

Some of the answers were really obvious, like the date and year you died. If you knew these, the puzzle seemed bruteforceable. However, I've not tried doing so (in fact, I haven't completed the puzzle at all yet, maybe I'll do so later)

The LD theme is used pretty well.

Minor points: - I won't change any rating because of this, but a zip would be nice alongside the rar. I can open rars of course, but opening zips is integrated in Windows and thus a bit faster and nicer. This is especially nice for rating lots of Ludum Dare entries. - I liked that there's a log.

Draw a Small World by ryan 2017-05-15T11:37:45Z

Quite a nice idea! I would've liked some sort of custom color picker to pick colors a bit faster with less clicks. Some sort of guidance on what size the animal had to be would also have been nice, I drew a butterfly and it became huge. But otherwise, I liked that you got a nice final drawing in the end. Very inspirational, I could think of lots of ways to expand on this. :) Your procedural world would be a really nice start, for example. If you do expand on this, I would make it so that you get a result a bit quicker, for example by showing the current picture next to the current drawing, especially if you increase the amount of drawings you have to do. Although the surprise in the end was also cool.

Depth by CreamyBacon2 2017-05-15T12:02:51Z

Fun idea for a game! It took a little while to figure out that you could shoot. Before that, the game was quite hard, but the shooting made it a lot easier. I couldn't find out what the strange pixely things on each level did, if they should even do something at all.

Minor points: - It was a little bit annoying to have to restart completely after each death. - The intro was a bit slow, and space skipped everything instead of just one dialog. - Pretty quick development, making this in just 9 hours.

SUN GOD by palemachine 2017-05-01T12:45:53Z

Overall, I think this is a really nice game for 48 hours, especially the graphics and audio. The gameplay could have been a bit better.

I really liked the sound effects and I quite liked the music! The graphics were great, as well. I liked the particles a lot. The font also fit well.

The controls are okay, but it can still be hard to get to the rotating planets correctly, especially as you seemed to continually drift towards the edge.

The game is quite hard! I think maybe too hard, even, but I'm not a good gamer. The first planets you visit could have had a lower amount of guardians, or you could have had a number of lives.

I think the jam theme could have been used a bit better. There were worlds, but they weren't especially small.

Minor points: - The tutorial was a bit long and with a lot of text. It did look nice, but I would've preferred something in-game. - It was a bit hard to see yourself on the minimap (I was playing windowed, if that matters). - I had to click through the intro each time. Quite short, but with such a hard game I'd prefer a quicker restart. - I really liked the death explosion!

RC kitchen Throwdown by oxrock 2017-05-01T12:24:44Z

Nice game overall, especially for 48 hours.

I liked the theme/"story" of the game. I feel the Ludum Dare theme wasn't used too well, as I didn't really think the kitchen felt like a small world. In fact, it was rather big for my robot. Still, it's used okay in my opinion.

As others have said, the controls seemed to react poorly. It may be that the game simply didn't run so well on my computer, but I also got semi-stuck (could move after a while) a couple of times. This made the game feel a little unfair sometimes, and was the biggest problem of the game. The sound effects work really nicely here. The graphics are pretty good, not great but still lots of nice elements for 48 hours.

Small things: - A more prominent Try Again button on the "you died" screen would be nice. - I still got the same tip and the end if the dog hadn't gotten to me at all, I just didn't take any batteries. - Batteries were a bit hard to see for such a key item. - I liked the traps!

Alienus-Alienas by Brainy_Beard 2017-05-02T13:40:26Z

Nice idea, where you repair turrets instead of shooting at things. Turrets do die really quickly, so it's quite hard. I liked the graphics. As you didn't make your audio yourself, I'd suggest opting out of that category. The audio did fit nicely, though.

Minor points: - The statistic fields at the end are white without any numbers in it. - You move a bit slowly, especially jumping. - I couldn't find out whether jumping into bullets from enemies actually did something (for example, reduce health). - Your player sprite is quite cute, with the two people working together. :)

Planet Spin by SoulPixel 2017-05-15T14:34:30Z

Really nice music! The graphics are good, too. The gameplay is a little bit on the simple side, I think it would've been better to make it a bit more hectec in the beginning. Also, one time, I had to wait very long for the first meteroid to arrive (the game is really easy if you just have to provide a bit of sun and water). Did boost my score, though. ;)

Minor points: - I would've liked a pause function. - I think the score could've been a bit more visible on Low graphics. While I was playing, there was a dark gray box behind it. I see this is different on the screenshot above, though, and I later discovered this was actually different on Ultra. Maybe making Ultra the default would work, too, as it didn't seem slow at all. - I liked how the planet actually had some life instead of just being a earth-like ball!

It would be great if you could rate [my game](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/the-final-world) as well.

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Curse of the Brew by Ilseroth 2017-12-05T22:24:45Z

I like the game idea, nice use of the theme! But as you already know, the notification is not there, making it really hard to know what the effect of the potion actually was.

The combat plays well, but as Hakita said there seems to be little reason to actually attack enemies right now. The graphics are good.

One minor point: when you start the game, sometimes enemies are attacking you instantly. It would be nice to always start in a safe room, to give you a some time to get used to the controls and look around before you have to defend yourself.

I want more money by ysty 2017-12-04T11:49:57Z

Really well done!

The gameplay is pretty simple, but entertaining, even though your choices don't really seem to matter at all (which is part of the game idea, I guess). The rhythm parts are fun, but don't seem to matter for the end result too. Maybe you could've done something minor with them except repeating them until the player succeeds. For example, you could have them affect how much money you get. The small pieces of music of these parts do fit well with the story.

The graphics are pretty good, and it's fun how your clothes change based on your choices. The audio, music and voice acting are really great! And I like the song at the end.

I like how you show a gravestone with your choices, but I couldn't find a way to replay the game from there. But maybe that's not really needed, you can't replay life either of course. :)

Tactical Marshmallows by applejam 2017-12-20T15:06:25Z

The art is really great, but I didn't feel there was a lot of interesting gameplay. It was pretty hard in the beginning and then the gameplay seemed to be just "build an expensive as possible tower whenever you can". I also didn't really "feel the theme". It was still fun to watch the awesome animations for a while, though, and the sound was good as well. I feel the gameplay could be expanded upon to make a great game.

Pixel Cartel by automatonvx 2017-12-06T21:35:54Z

Really well done, I loved the art and graphics and the game was fun to play. I liked how there are quests to give you some direction. The theme isn't very clear, though.

Small bug: you can get the shotgun even if you have no money. The shopkeeper tells you "no money no deal" but you get it anyway.

Bullet Hell by kamekai 2017-12-06T21:49:52Z

Well done! I liked the game idea and the way you used the theme. The (abstract) graphics are also nice. The game was fun, but I did find it really hard because of the controls (I don't play many games like this though). Cool that you've managed to keep the file size so tiny.

By the way, the YouTube video you linked says "This video is not available.", but maybe that's just in my country (the Netherlands).

FATAL OVERKILL - Robot Edition by feips 2017-12-20T14:40:41Z

Pretty simple, but fun game! And the music fits really well too. The graphics are quite nice as well.

Small thing: Sometimes, I did get get "stuck" near a hallway (I could only move in two directions, while you'd expect three), but not always (I can't really reproduce this). But normally the movement was really smooth.

Units of measurement are notorious hoarders of francium by yokcos700 2017-12-20T14:54:16Z

Quite a crazy game! It was very imaginative (and random), which I really liked. It's pretty hard to see what harms you and what doesn't in the beginning. After that, it was easier, except when I had to go back to my bike and found out I had to move a long way... I mostly used the wine, as that was by far the easiest weapon to use. It was a fun experience, and I liked the graphics, too.

You God Mail by west 2017-12-23T10:05:57Z

Cool idea, and the prayers were great. However, it was a bit hard to see what the results of accepting/discarding the wishes was. The graphics were pretty good, and I liked how you could actually see the village and not just the email screen.

Dungeon of Cursed Artifacts by Florian van Strien 2017-12-04T13:03:59Z

Hi bobombe, thanks for your comment! Refreshing the page shouldn't be required, pressing enter or space (probably a few times, as the turn description is often long when you die) should restart the game. Sorry if that's unclear! Also, there may be a bug, of course. If you still have the page open by any chance, could you maybe see if there are any errors in the browser console?

Bike taxi service by snarf2000 2017-12-20T14:28:12Z

This game looks great! I love the colorful voxel style. I thought it was fun, too, but really hard in my opinion, because the controls were pretty hard (obviously as intended). The timer didn't seem to matter much, though, as I could continue playing with a negative time just fine.

Dream Roamers by Jegus9 2017-12-06T16:55:12Z

Really well done! I loved the music and audio! The graphics are really good, too! The gameplay is fun, but the dungeon generation is a bit basic, as there don't seem to be too many types of rooms (this doesn't impact the gameplay too much, though). Also, for some enemy types, I thought you had very little time to look around in a new room before you had to dodge them, but maybe that's just because I'm not great at games like this.

I liked how you show a random quote in the end!

Crimson Assault by OnionBurger 2017-12-06T21:25:29Z

I like this game idea, and I like how you used the theme. The game is fun, but the controls are a bit hard and don't feel very responsive, even if you have just one soldier. I tried a few times, but I never even managed to complete the first level. It's good that you have sound, but the sound effect is a bit too loud and distorted for my taste.

Hedgehog - winter is coming by Sanguis 2017-12-04T12:14:31Z

Well done; this is great for your first released game!

The gameplay was fun for a little while, but I did feel the apple and worm requirements could've been a bit lower, because it took a bit long, even in easy mode, and by then the game started to feel a bit repetitive. Also, there was no pause option, so when I minimized the game for a little while to write down some feedback all my apples had been stolen. Also, I did manage to get stuck a few times, probably because my speed changed when I was near a wall, but usually button mashing fixed that.

The graphics are pretty good, actually! Maybe you could've added a background, I think that would've improved them further. Also, the text in the menu was a bit ugly, but that's a very minor issue.

One Million Dollars by Luxorix Games 2017-12-04T12:56:37Z

The music and graphics were great! I didn't finish the game, but I played for a while, and the gameplay did get a little repetitive. But maybe that's the point, of course. :)

Hairball by instantnoedel 2017-12-06T16:27:05Z

I've played this once, but when I wanted to try again a few hours later Windows Defender thought it was a virus. If this is a GameMaker: Studio game, maybe you can try the zip export option instead of the single exe one?

Anyway, I really liked how weird it is, and the worsening FPS is a very interesting way to use the theme (although it wouldn't work very well for a larger game I think). I liked how everything moved, like the text. I don't remember if I liked the music unfortunately, so I'll rate that if I get the game to work again.

LD42 — Running out of space

Writespace by blinry 2018-08-14T16:19:00Z

The game looks and sounds absolutely amazing, and the idea is great. The puzzles are quite good too and it is fun for a while. After that though, I found the gameplay becoming just a little bit boring. Most of the levels were not too hard to figure out before playing and after that it was mainly counting characters to type the direction in the right place. Maybe a few new mechanics (like other magic words to type) would've helped. I quit before the end though (in a level where I would've had to redo a large part of the level just because I forgot to place the right characters somewhere), so maybe they are there. Still really nicely done overall and a great entry to the jam!

No Room! by Mieeh 2018-08-14T18:51:08Z

The game initially didn't work because the OpenAL dll was not found; I could simply download and install it but I think it would be better to include it. There were more DLLs I did not have for the debug version, but the normal one worked fine with that one extra DLL.

The game itself was quite interesting and fun. I liked the "only one item at a time" mechanic in principle, but I didn't like the "learn the items" part of it very much. I don't think having to play the same rooms all over again is a fun mechanic. I think it would have worked much better if the chests were transparent, maybe with a few more rooms and more interesting "what item do I take", "do I take this bad item or defeat an extra enemy" or "in what order do I do these things" puzzles. The sound was pretty good, but the music a bit repetitive after a while. The graphics were quite nice.

What To Do When Your Drive Is Full by NoNiMad 2018-08-15T17:17:34Z

The game looks interesting and is quite fun too, but it could use some usability improvements. This probably has to do with the little time you had to make it, but I will still mention some: - Please add a next level button. Going back to the main menu takes you out of the flow, and you have to remember which level you played last too. - It took me a little while to find out that I could click on in- and outputs to see the file type. I think the main issue is that you always show the tile you have currently selected with full transparency below the cursor over the tile you're looking at, even if your current action isn't "build this here" at all. If you simply hide this tile while hovering over a hard drive/input this would be clearer. It's also not possible to deselect something (could be right click for example). - It's not possible to rotate a tile after you placed it. This would be a good feature to have. - Please allow replacing a tile by simply clicking once instead of removing+adding. - I think in-game explanation is better than having to read all the info here.

The graphics were pretty good, although there was a bit of a strange mix between pixel graphics (the tiles for example) and full-resolution buttons and font. There were some interesting levels already, but as you already mentioned they were not very challenging yet.

The level Some looked quite interesting, but in the end I didn't use any of these fancy zippers there at all.

I think it is very impressive to make this with level editor and all in less than two days, and I really think this could be a very good game with some minor improvements and of course a lot more levels.

Running out of Keys by OadT 2018-08-13T10:19:11Z

Interesting idea, and good execution! Overall, I really like the game, but there are some things that could have been improved:

The game was quite hard for me, maybe you could've added some simpler levels as an introduction. Right now, you already introduce no less than three special mechanics just in the first level (bombs, points you have to take in a certain order and portals) and then two more in the second level. It gets a bit overwhelming.

Also, it seems a bit unfair that other blocks suddenly appear in the third level, making it necessary to restart just because you took a key earlier than you needed to. I always like to plan my moves before playing and this made that impossible, just like the keys that didn't indicate the door they belong to.

Also, I would've preferred if you simply prevented the ship from going to keys you'd already been to instead of having to restart the whole level, especially as it was sometimes hard to keep track of where you are.

To end with some positive things:

The graphics were really good and crisp, it's nice that there's sound and I thought "Ground Ctrl" was funny.

Void Knight vs PEST by Memel06 2018-08-13T10:36:34Z

The game looks really good and has nice audio and a nice, dark mood. The combat was fun, but there doesn't seem to be that much variation in enemies and gameplay. That's to be expected for a compo game though, especially with so much care put into the graphics and sound. Great job overall!

Spacebars by The Triumvirate 2018-08-14T21:06:14Z

Nice interpretion of the theme. The game itself is fun to play. I don't really like pixel perfect jumps, but at least they're easy to pull of here as you can glide quite slowly.

Retrying could be a bit quicker. I like the idea of the menu in principle, but it gets a bit tiring after a while. Also, I'd like an option to retry during the level when you know you've already used too many jumps.

Double jump is very weird here like @sekwah41 said. If you press space twice quickly, you go very fast, but if you use it at the top of your jump (like you normally need to in games) you don't go high enough. This might be a mechanic, but it's not explained and actually got me stuck for a little while.

I do like how pretty much everything is a keyboard key, it really has a nice theme going.

Also cool that you added the source code even though it's a jam game by the way! Not going to use it myself, but it's a cool thing to do anyway.

Unfortunately, I didn't like the gameplay very much as it is right now. I think the main issue is the launch button that seems to re- or deactivate at random moments, or maybe simply on a timer. This is probably a gameplay decision, but it doesn't seem to work out very well in my opinion. Basically, it makes it feel like the controls are unresponsive. You start just mashing the button until it works, which completely defies any gameplay this would add. You can only launch when you're in the correct direction to a planet anyway, and there are the asteroids too, so I don't think an additional timing element is needed. If you simply remove this, I think the game could be pretty fun.

I like the idea of the asteroids blocking you as you progress, but it didn't work very well together with the mechanic above. I think this would work a lot better and also make it feel the theme has been applied better if that mechanic was to be removed.

To end on a more positive note, the graphics were good and I really think this could be a good game with some gameplay tweaking. Also, it could be pretty cool as a competitive multiplayer game.

Dystopia Tycoon by Hare Software 2018-08-13T23:27:25Z

I really like games like this, and this one doesn't disappoint. It's fun to play and gets harder after a while, which is nice. I liked that you really get punished if you try to build up too fast, using too many resources and too much power, but can still recover with some lives lost because of the $500 you get each time and because it repeats the same mission.

I thought the graphics look pretty nice too, although I would've preferred them to be a bit less gray in places (like the background). But hey, it is a dystopia simulator. :) I also would've liked a few more building options, but maybe they are unlocked further into the game than I got.

Block Smash - Ludum Dare 42 Entry by vivek.sharma20 2018-08-13T09:47:49Z

When I started playing, I thought the game would be quite boring, but fortunately, that was not the case! It does start out a bit slowly, but after a little while you're mashing on the arrow keys, trying to avoid the ever bigger blocks that come at you.

There's menu music, but no in game music - why? Also, I quite liked the graphics, except the flashing blocks - I would tone down that effect a lot.

Colony by thechubbypanda 2018-08-13T11:13:52Z

The art was really amazing! The audio was good, too.

I think the gameplay was quite fun, but could have used some improvements.

I understand the issue others have with the controls. You fall very quickly, plus there doesn't seem to be a jump grace period, or maybe only a very short one.

I also think failing is much too punishing; having to restart the whole game after just three times is really too much. You have to repeat a lot of easy stuff just to get back to the harder part. I would even say that checkpoints within the level would've been a good idea.

Overall, great game and there's even still time to improve the controls a bit in the jam, which I would really recommend.

Small Pack by Daem 2018-08-14T15:15:56Z

I really like the graphics. You've opted out of graphics so have probably not made them (all) yourself, but you've still selected the right ones to make the game look really good. I also like the slow down when you shoot an arrow, it makes it feel nicer and also a bit more doable. I still think the hitbox should've been bigger, especially for targets in the early game.

In general, I think the game was too hard and deaths were too punishing. I'm not great at platformers, but I can do most of them okay after a little while, and this became somewhat frustrating quite quickly. Having to restart completely after being hit once is very harsh, especially as you then have to hit the target again (always taking a few tries) which makes restarts not fast at all. I would give the player a chance to properly see some of the cool mechanics of the game before introducing more difficulty, and add some checkpoints too. As it was, I didn't get too experience the inventory management much at all before giving up. If I had at least seen some of the cool mechanics you probably have first, I might have spent more time learning the game. Also, the one item I did find didn't have much of an explanation. I could guess it, but it would have better if you'd put in a quick description or at least give the player some more space to experiment with it instead of such a small platform.

To end on a positive note, because the game is actually not bad at all: the platforming feels good, everything works well and I really think this could be a good game with some minor changes to the difficulty.

Overpopulation by SimonAura 2018-08-13T15:18:03Z

I like the graphics and back story. It's also nice that you generate a random universe, although it doesn't seem to matter too much for the gameplay. The game is quite easy and not very complex, but fortunately you only have to launch three times, so it doesn't overstay its welcome. I think it would've been a bit better if the instruction manual had been available in-game. Good job overall!

Mail Room by lazinix 2018-08-12T23:38:36Z

Nice idea and the game was fun to play! The powerups really helped to make it more fun. It did become a bit repetitive after a few play sessions, but I don't think that's a big problem for a jam game. I didn't notice the mail room shrinking the first time I played, but it does actually seem to affect the game, so the theme has been used nicely. One time I did end up under a big pile of mail and couldn't really do anything anymore:

While this was quite fun to see, especially as the room shrunk further, it was a bit less fun that I could no longer do anything useful in the level. But maybe that was my punishment for playing badly.

I liked the graphics; nice and colorful!

While I agree with EvanM that the movement speed could have been a bit higher, I really liked the detail that you move slower when you carry something.

Greenie Goes Right by quicklyer 2018-08-13T23:37:00Z

While quite simple, this game is really fun, and deceptively challenging. I think the audio could've been improved a bit, but the graphics worked really well. Good job!

Boxed by Devio 2018-08-13T00:17:52Z

Pretty nice game! I really like the graphics; they might be a bit simple but work really well. The game is very relaxing, but also a bit repetitive. I stopped after level 2 because I began to feel a little bit bored. Maybe you could solve this by introducing some new mechanics after a while, like different boxes for different customers, and maybe building up pressure a bit faster. The controls could also be improved as you said; I think one button for picking up/dropping and walking would've worked better. It was not a big problem, though, and overall, the game was still fun and relaxing to play.

I liked how you could use a box to push other boxes towards the customers!

Anya's Valley by nardandas 2022-04-07T14:49:42Z

Very cute art, so I didn't expect it to be this challenging! I really couldn't figure out what the owl wanted even with a few tries. A big tree didn't seem to be enough, at least, neither were tomatoes. But still it was a really fun game. The audio was great too!

Mighty Crossroad by hmightypirate 2022-04-05T21:35:19Z

Nice puzzle game! I really enjoyed it. I would appreciate getting a bit fewer truly useless puzzle pieces, I'm not sure whether I could even have prevented losing as I kept getting puzzle pieces that just didn't help moving a certain car. I agree with Mook that the option to rotate would be a great addition, maybe limit it a bit if it gets too easy. I enjoyed how fast the cars moved when I got two in a circle :)

Fort Postremus by Erukolindo 2022-04-05T21:06:50Z

This looks like a really interesting game! It would need some more explaination and a clear goal. I had fun for a while trying to position my units smartly, but after a while the enemy turns took a lot of time I died really quickly.

I found a bug: when you click end turn twice or more before the enemies finish moving, strange things happen, e.g. enemies move into walls sometimes

Watch it by Miiyuka 2022-04-05T21:27:14Z

Really nice game! Even though I totally knew the LD theme, I still was really hoping for a way to escape right up until the end. The graphics and mood are really well done.

Twisting Tower by falkka 2022-04-05T15:34:15Z

I've always liked tower defence games, and this is a nice twist! I really like the art too. Obviously, as you say, it's still a bit bare-bones, so it's a little samey after a while, but definitively a really nice proof of concept!

Hungry Bird by GameDevAlexandr 2022-04-07T14:03:11Z

Nice game! Some more explanation would be welcome - it took a while to figure out all the mechanics. But after that it was deeper than I thought when I first saw it!
