ARM: Alien Research Mission by Hume 2012-12-21T18:00:00
That was great. Felt like QWOP in a spaceship.

@singpolyma Ah, gosh, you're right! Sorry about that, I can't believe I didn't notice it. I'll fix that as soon as I can, in the mean time if you want to play the game there's a raw .love (requires LÖVE to be installed) version here: ystygames.com/ludumdare/SBAC.love
Ok, I've updated the 32bit Ubuntu version and it is no longer an empty file. I'm still shocked that I managed to do that in the first place, I guess I was just tired.
@agmcleod There shouldn't be any dependencies, but I don't have a mac so I haven't been able to test that version. If you don't mind installing Love2d, you can play the raw .love version (found here: ystygames.com/ludumdare/SBAC.love), and I'll see if I can do anything about getting the Mac version working.
@zenmumbler Yeah, that's an annoying issue (that luckily seems to only happen on a few windows computers). If you update your graphics card drivers it'll work (the game should tie itself to your monitors refresh rate). I'll have to remember to make the speed frame independent in future.
Really really cool.
Nice. Found the real ending first time through. :)
Nice, lots of fun.
A really neat idea. Great game.
Nice. Very easy to understand and well built.
Very neat indeed. The map it gives you at the end is a really good touch.
Really great idea. Controls were a little bit finicky, but otherwise it was well implemented.
Really nice and simple. I like the way the movement feels.
Very moody. The sound design is impressive as well.
I love the look of the game. A bit confusing at first but once it clicks the gameplay works really well.
I love it. Very uplifting.
I'm not usually a big fan of tower defence, but I had fun with this. It works really well, and I especially like the music.
Very nice, I love the art style.
Nice. Simple and well executed.
@Arkazon Thanks, I'm glad you like it on the whole. Yeah, I did collision a little differently than I normally do (mainly to make the light work properly), but I didn't manage to get it perfect for player movement in time. I might try to see if I can fix that and release a post-compo version.
Brilliant.
Very nice concept, and the puzzles are really well designed.
I like it, great interpretation of the theme.
Very nice. Took me a minute to figure out, but the gameplay is very well put together, and just as forgiving as it needs to be.
Brilliant. As others have said, a little too easy, but that wouldn't be a difficult problem to solve.
I like it, it's got a really sharp look.
Great game. Like others I was a little confused about what did and didn't kill me, but it didn't take long to figure out.
I like it (both endings). +1 for the Gattaca reference.
Fantastic, and a really impressive amount of work in 48 hours.
Great game. I love the graphics and audio, creates a good atmosphere.
Nice, although the perspective is a little odd on the catapult so it takes a while to figure out how to aim.
Brilliant, the most fun I've had with an LD game. I literally laughed out loud when I became admin for some reason and spawned a hundred extra balls.
I liked the music, it seemed really well done (I usually just coward out and make a game without music).
I love the look of the graphics. Great game.
Great game, very stylish.
Great! I love the way the world springs up as you fly along.
@Beardbotnik Thanks! Yeah, the "click to end" thing is from the non-web versions. I'm pretty new to Unity and I didn't end up building the game to a web version until after LD48 had ended, so it didn't feel right to change the text (although I probably should have).
@timothyolt Yeah, sorry I screwed those up. I've redone them and they should work now!
Wow, the graphics are great. Great game!
Awesome, love the look and the music!
That was great. The writing was excellent, and it was very satisfying when I finally found the cure.
Love the art. Neat idea!
Great! Although I lived on my first go :P
One of the best game I've played so far in this LD!
Once I got a handle on the controls it was great. I love the aesthetic.
Nice idea. I love the blocky designs of everything.
Great idea. Love the theme song. :)
Great game, I loved the twist once I figured it out.
Great use of the theme and really well executed.
These are really neat. Great use of the theme.
Really nice concept. I love the art.
I love the look of the game.
Really neat. Good message.
This is awesome. Great use of the theme!
That was great. I especially liked Hide and Seek.
I love the way it looks/controls, very atmospheric. Even though I was kind of expecting it I still jumped when the guy appeared in front of me.
That was really great. Good progression, and I loved the end. I wonder who's buying all those severed limbs from the player, though?
Weee, flying whale!
Nice. I think the click box around the nodes could have been a little bigger, but otherwise it was very good.
Wow, incredible execution. Fantastic game.
Nice. Very smooth and I like the effect for when you type a letter that isn't there.
That was great. Very funny. :)
Nice. I love the look.
@Halfbus It looks like the servers I was hosting on had a hiccup, but they seem to be fine now. I've uploaded it to itch.io and added that link as an alternative just in case, though.
Really good. I love the concept and it's executed really well.
That was really clever. I like the music at the end as well.
Really neat concept and use of the theme.
Really good. I love the minimal control scheme.
A really neat idea. Short but nicely polished.
@amras0000 Thanks! Yeah, those are all my voice (the filter that makes them sound like a low quality phone calls kind of hides the weirdness that pitching a voice up/down would normally have). In theory the purpose of letting you select names, age etc was to flag things that might be grounds for suspicion, but since there's not really anything suspicious in any of that information it didn't really come together as an important part of the game.
Nice. Very frantic and fun.
A nice little story. The text could maybe have been a touch faster to come up. I like the music. :)
Really awesome! The central mechanic works really well, the puzzles are satisfying to solve and I like all the different environments you go through. If I had to nitpick I'd say that movement was a little slow (especially coming to/from the orbs) and it's a little easy to push blocks that you don't mean to, but neither of these gripes are particularly serious.
Really good! The tutorial was a little intimidating but once I actually started playing it wasn't confusing at all.
A really good idea well executed! The camera was maybe a little tight but that's a small niggle.
That was really good. The set-up was very imaginative and I liked the hand drawn art. It wasn't immediately obvious how to interact with things at first but I figured it out. Nice use of the music.
A really relaxing game. I like the way the sculpting works/feels, it feels like an excellent base to build a bigger game from.
A great concept. It took me a couple of goes to realize that I could change the strength of the throw. I liked the way the gravity on the black holes worked and there was a good variety to the levels, though it might have been nice if there was gravity on other objects as well. The music is really good and sets a nice frantic tone to the game.
I really liked the progression, there ended up being a lot of stuff to get for a compo game, and the look was really good. A nice serene game. :)
A nice game with a good progression. There seems to be a minor bug that sometimes I'd have the time and material to fix the boat but couldn't, but it would work after I slept.
I like the strategy of having to diversify your interests, it's a simple mechanic that works very well. I'd love to see where this game would go if developed further, it's a really cool idea.
The repeating world idea is great and you've pulled it off really well. The floaty physics on the box does make some of the more precise jumps a bit tricky, but overall it plays quite well.
Really good. It was fun flying the ship around and I really liked the look of the game. It plays just a touch too slowly but otherwise excellent.
Nice! It plays very well and I really like the aesthetic. 👍
A good use of the theme. I loved the art!
A nicely designed puzzle game. Great use of the theme. :)
Great game. It felt really good with the shake and the explosion effects. The art is fantastic! :)
Quite difficult but a fun game. I like the art style. :)
Really cool. It was a nice touch that you could skip the intro after the first ending. :)
A good idea well executed. It would have been nice if there was a way to fast-forward time as I got a bit stuck with a stable but only very slowly increasing amount of power, so couldn't really do anything. I liked the music. :)
Nice. I liked the way the enemies recoiled when you shot them (though they weren't super threatening - maybe they could have been a little faster?), and I liked the music. Good job. :)
A good idea well executed. I liked the death screens. :)
I love the graphics and controlling the ship. Really impressive!
Cool game. I like how heavy the ship feels, unwieldy but not too difficult to control. I did get trapped under the cows a couple of times though. :P
Nice, really moody. I loved the film grain effect. It was neat how you had to manage both your and the batteries energy levels.
That might be the first Ludum Dare game that's made me feel sad at the end. Loved the game, and the simple graphics really worked well.
A nice concept for a puzzle game. I sometimes got a little lost between what was the electron and what was the goal, it would have been nice to make them a bit more visually distinct. :)
Nice game. The orbital mechanics were done really well. :)
A nice minimalist take on tower defense. A few sounds might have been good. I loved the graphics! :)
A really clever use of the theme, and the asteroids-style mechanics were very fun.
Really good. A clever use of the theme and the core mechanic was implemented very well. It's quite a difficult game. :)
Very clever. I like the idea of using stuff from paintings as the art style, it works really well.
A really good use of clicker-style mechanics. I like the use of UI elements as the enemy. It would be nice if it scaled just a little faster. :)
A clever idea and a really cool way of representing multiple characters/environments.
A good idea that works really well. I like how the pellets are represented bouncing about inside your ship. :)
Great use of the theme and really well executed. The art style is great, though the game is maybe a little too difficult. :)
A really good, silly idea, executed neatly. :)
I love how ridiculously overpowered you can get. Really good work. :)
Really tough and a whole lot of fun. An excellent use of a minimal control scheme, and the art is great. :)
A surprisingly tense game for one about growing flowers. It was really nice to play and I love the way the flowers look as they grow. I couldn't see anywhere that told me how much money I had, which would have been nice, but a really great entry. :)
A really wonderful use of the theme. I really enjoyed playing it. :)
Really fun and it controls really well. I loved the animation. :)
Really slick. I loved the art. It's a little harsh making you restart from the very beginning, but this is a really wonderful entry.
A really clever mechanic/use of the theme, and I liked the level music. :)
The game feels really great to play. Very well done. :D
The whole package including the art and audio really works well. It took me a little while to get used to the mouse position = zoom thing but I really enjoyed it and it looks incredible.
A really clever concept. The level design was good, and it was fun finding all the little hidden spots. :)
Really good use of the theme. I liked how you used the level geometry to hide the key.
A fun use of the theme. The graphics were great and the ending was really cute. :)
A lot of fun. Having the jump cost mana was a really good way to tie the two genres together.
Really nice use of the theme. It turns out even with all the time in the world I still suck at racing games :P
That was really fun. I liked the minimalist look, and I kind of preferred it focusing on traversal more than enemies, makes the game relaxing. :)
A nice game, I liked the writing and the twist at the end. The sound for hitting the correct note sounded like a 'you've done something wrong' sound to me, which confused me at first. :)
That was excellent. The game gets really tense near the end, and the graphics are fantastic. It's impressive you got so much done in 48 hours.
That was really well executed. I liked how you used the word choices for tutorials and atmosphere.
A nice, easy to understand concept executed really well. I really liked the lighting.
That was great. I liked the writing and the mechanic worked really well. I ended up getting stabbed in a church. :P
