LD24 — Evolution

Splat! by Back to Browse Entries 2012-09-09T09:21:00

Cool game, but the controls ruined it for me. If you're hiding the mouse cursor, at least replace it with something which helps you aiming. With not cursor at all, aiming is more up to luck than skill. Additionally, the slow cannon movement makes it even more annoying.
The transition beteween levels was a bit "rough" - when you complete one, the game sorta seems to freeze for a few second until the next level starts. It almsot seems like the game crashed the first time.

Shit! It's evolving by fruitfly 2012-08-27T17:39:00

Both versions (web and windows)seem broken. Too bad, looked fairly interesting.

Acts of August: Introspective by NeiloGD 2012-09-09T10:01:00

Wow... Excellent atmosphere as well as excellent audio. Grahics are top-notch as well and fit the to the overall atmosphere - I really like how the water or whatever that is looks.
I liked the exploration aspect of the game, got me hooked for quite a while - it felt very experimental, though - Is there any goal / game end condition? Not sure what picking up these "thoughts" does - it seems like they rendered me unable to travel across water though.
I really liked the movement / behaviour of that ball thingy you're controlling, too. It felt a bit random and experimental, thus refreshing.

Darwinicide aka Charles Darwin versus the Catholic Church by Skulls 2012-09-07T10:23:00

Polished art and nice music.
There's no reason not to fire all the time, so you might as well get rid of the shoot keys. It's more of an annoyance than anything that you have to keep them pressed, just add autofire. Plus, WASD combined with space doesn't work so well.

Gameplay itself was not too innovative. It basically a reskinned, horizontal-scrolling space shooter. It doesn't fit the theme all that well either.
Feel like a score counter or something is needed that keeps track of your progress.

Curse of Hardai by Incredible Ape 2012-08-28T11:29:00

Pretty fun already! I like the music, the visuals and the overall concept (levels evolving as you beat them). Got fairly challenging after a while! Somehow reminded me of "Time Fuck". I think the levels "evolved" 4 or 5 times until I stopped playing.
A few things I'm missing:
- a clear goal / death condition, like you already mentioned.
- stats displayed during gameplay - e.g. Level number, time taken so far, deaths, times levels have evolved..
- sound effects for dying, completing a level etc

Antvolution by Zaxuhe 2012-09-09T09:40:00

Awesome concept, this has lots of potential! The graphics weren't really good and I'm missing sounds, though.
I don't see why you wouldn't allow to just hold and drag when having selected the digging command as long as you'd like.
Currently, if you want to dig longer tunnels, you have to click the DIG button again every two blocks - Wait, actually, I just figured out that you can draw rectangles with those two clicks - it just wasn't intuitve enough for me to notice it immediately, so you might wanna work on that.

Vivere by Tkatchenko 2012-09-07T09:19:00

Interesting sandbox-game, but I feel like it's not interesting enough to be fun right now. Could probably be turned into something that's enjoyable with some additional features and work.

Kill It by Mythalore 2012-09-10T13:06:00

Haha, nice humor here. Sadly not much gameplay, you could've turned this into a pretty fun "one-boss-battle"-like game. Nice message too, if intended or not.
Requiring the player to click mid-game when having keyboard-controls is a no-go btw, it forces the player to pick up the mouse again which is pretty annoying.

Cubevo by NostraDamon 2012-09-07T10:07:00

Wow, impressive game. I loved the artstyle, music and onverall atmosphere. My problem with it is that the main challenge of the game wasn't the puzzle aspect - it's basically, "just go for trees", but moving around. I found myself bumping into trees _all the time_ because I wasn't sure whether the gap is wide enough for me to get through or not. That is something that abolsutely needs to be addressed.

Gene Jumble by ae12687 2012-09-09T09:04:00

Cool puzzle game, but as others have mentioned, the hardest part of the game is understanding the controls initially, after that, it's not that hard anymore. It doesn't fit the theme very well if you ask me. It's not like anything evolves here, it's just the graphics that are "themed".
I feel like the music didn't fit all that well. :(

Out of the Sea by Uberi 2012-08-28T09:50:00

I run Windows 7 64-bit, and it crashes for me as well. :/

Maze Evolution by ryebread761 2012-09-06T20:00:00

The movement, as well as the characters hitbox, are extremely messed up. More sfx and music would be nice, as far as I can tell, there's only one soundeffect for completing a level. One for collecting coins is a must.
Why not allow the player to hold the arrow keys to move? Repeatedly pressing them gets annoying fast.

The game is lacking innovation as well, it's just a standard maze-game. Can't really see the theme here either.

Camouflage by kirill 2012-08-28T10:31:00

On of the better games when it comes to the concept - fits really well to the theme!

The Life Tale by Griz 2012-09-07T09:50:00

It's a bit slow-paced, but I liked the idea. Fish can move out of screen. Don't feel like the "Press-Tab-to-display-upgrades"-thingy is needed at all, it doesn't take up too much spaces and should just be visible all the time. Also feel like those extremely long descriptions of upgrades are unnecessary, few people are actually gonna read them.

Super Ultra Mega Brain Adventure Saga of Ultimate Destruction by Libipl Joe 2012-09-09T09:31:00

The concept reminded me a lot of that flash-game called "Lightbot". The graphics are poor (Why would you choose such a background / such a font for the text at the beginning which explains the story? It's barely readable) and the music isn't too good either, but it's still a good result considering you had to learn Unity first. It has potential, too. Gameplay is way too slow, though, the robot should at least go 2 or even 3 times at fast, because you get bored really quick watching him execute the commands.

Also, what about the evolution theme? Can't really see anything evolving here.

Run and Transform by plule 2012-09-07T09:45:00

Cool autorunner game. I like the idea of transformations, but they take way too long to be usable at all. I feel like they should apply almost instantly, but have a cooldown.
Animations seemed rather polished, while the surroundings could need some work.
I'm missing a highscore-counter.
I would allow the player to use the up / down key for restarting. I feel like no-one is gonna use F1-F3 to transoform, you might as well remove those.

Could be a really good game with some additional work and polish! :)

Artificial Selection by Quentin 2012-09-07T09:29:00

Cool idea, but lacks polish. The gameplay isn't interesting enough right, enemies are all the same bascially, just different images. I was able to defeat all of them within 3 or so deaths - not Try Again or anything from there.
Don't force the player to pick up his mouse for restarting in a keyboard-based game.
More sfx would be nice, music was good. The graphics, however, are rather poor. Hit detection should be pixel-perfect, but all the hitboxes seem to be squares.

uni.bb by IndigoWolf 2012-09-07T10:13:00

It didn't really seem clear to me how the commands are used, either (same problem as SteelRaven7). Could be interesting, but needs more work.

ANT FIGHT CLUB by gamblore 2012-09-07T10:31:00

Cool idea, but I don't really have an idea what I'm doing when playing. There needs to be some sort of explanation what the different potions do, what the things that differentiate ant species are etc. Different-colored enemy ants would be nice.
Fight are pretty boring to watch currently. The ability to fast-forward or even skip them entirely might be the way to go.

Thanks for providing a QR-code! :)

Survivalism by Walt 2012-09-05T19:07:00

Cool little game, took a while to figure out how to get past the title screen. (enter)
I like the concept, but it isn't all that fun in its current state. It could, however, be pretty good with some additional polish!

Darwin In Space by Misericorde 2012-08-28T11:04:00

Haha, this deserves a 5 star rating for humour for sure. Gameplay was a bit too repetitive, though. Same enemy over and over, just faster. I was able to beat the game without even getting hit. I would've preferred if the game doesn't have an ending, and the goal was to rack up a highscore instead. (Enemies killed / Time survived)

Slime LifeTime by ItsSacraficed 2012-08-28T09:59:00

Liked the idea. I think it has potential, but there are a few things that prevent it from being fun:
- The sfx were way to loud in comparison to the okay-ish background music. It kind of hurts my ears.
- There is no indicator how much HP enemies have left. HP-Bars or floating texts that indicate how much damage has been done would be nice.
- It is really annoying that you can't just hold down the space bar to shoot, you have to press it repeatedly.
- There's no challenge at all, you can reset all the enemy spawning by accessing the shop if you're in trouble.
- The graphics are really tiny compared to the size of the game window, there's so much empty space! Would be better if everything was at a scale of x2.

viviDNA by Gama11 2012-08-28T10:36:00

@Dietrich Epp: If they hit your trail, they get deflected. When they hit your head, you take damage based on the current rival level and the enemy is killed. It might be worth it to do so to reduce the number of enemies on screen, as they evolve and the damage they do to you increases.

viviDNA by Gama11 2012-08-28T11:08:00

@juaxix: No, the music isn't made by me. This guy: http://los-illuminados.newgrounds.com/ made it.
Not supossed to be easy. ;)

UPix by Xaychru 2012-08-28T10:22:00

The controls didn't work too well for me - I didn't like the fact that you can only shoot in the direction you're moving. Mouse controls could've worked well.
The upgrades seemed really unbalanced, the second gun upgrade makes you OP as hell, while the two after that are basically downgrades. A stronger magnet would've been handy for collecting experience, maybe as an additional upgrade path.

"Natural" Selection by r4m0n 2012-09-09T08:57:00

Hm... Sorry, but this is just another horizontal space shooter without any innovation at all. Movement doesn't feel good and is way too slow, sfx are annoying more than anything else. It's an interesting take on the evolution theme, but doesn't work that well right now - one of the problems is that enemies just always look the same. :(

Beatbox Evolution by joekinley 2012-09-09T10:05:00

Interesting concept, but not much of a game here. The movement isn't that good right now, jumping is weird - I have a hard time controlling that guy. Would be interesting to see what this could be turned into!

Bacon by RandomM00 2012-09-06T19:54:00

Haha, an epic boss battle with a pig! Hillarious idea. Would be a lot more fun with music and sfx, though. You should work keep working on it!

The Legend of Elzad by arkeus 2012-08-28T10:52:00

I am absolutely clueless how you managed to create a game with this much content and visual polish in this short amount of time. I'd imagine creating all the maps alone would take ages.
Looking forward to the finished, post competition version!

Tiimmmeeee by matheod 2012-08-28T09:47:00

I liked the idea of being able to accelerate time, but I'm not sure if that fits to the Evolution theme all that well. Maybe if you could use that ability to accelerate evolution.. To be fair, the theme kind of sucked. :D
Unfortunately, the game really suffered from not having sound effects or music.. And it seems like when you reach the room after the balance, you have completed the game, which isn't the case.

raptor disaster by mes 2012-08-29T08:47:00

Cool little game. Reminded me a lot of that excellent Dino Run flash game, in case you played that. The main character looks pretty much exactly like the main character in Dino Run, so at least your artist has probably played it.
Could be a lot more fun with sound.

Space Ham by FunByJohn 2012-08-28T10:13:00

Funny idea, sadly, I didn't find the gameplay to be all that fun, since it was highly repetitive. Also didn't like the tongue controls too much, mouse could've worked pretty well for that. Music would've been nice.

Genes Chase by Mago 2012-09-07T09:01:00

Nice little game. Controls felt smooth until the third level, jumping is kind of weird. It was cool that you can chose between different life forms each level - I don't really see why you'd chose one without any abilities though.
Collecting DNA was a bit counter-intuitive, it seems like you're losing DNA at first.
The levels could be improved, they're not very challenging and the ocean wasn't really well-designed.

Complexitivity by Accidental Rebel 2012-09-07T09:13:00

One of the best games I've played in this LD, it seems very complete already and is a lot of fun - I like the mechanic a lot. Audio was great, as well as overall atmosphere! :D

How evolution really works? by keenblaze 2012-09-10T13:29:00

Wow, perfect game considering the amount of time it took you to make it! It has just the right difficulty, innovative level design and is funny as hell. A few more levels would be nice though.
Really like how movement changes the characters size, seems like he's pudding or something :D. Feels really juicy.
There's one major flaw here though: The restart animation / time until you can get another attempt. It's waaaay too long and should be close to zero, because it creates a lot of frustration. That's one of Super Meat Boy's "secrets" to avoid frustration.

Would be nice to have a few stats like time needed to play through and total death to go for highscores.

UED(UFO - Earth Defense) by steffen1997 2012-09-09T09:07:00

What TehSkull said sounds like a good suggestion. I won't install a software just to be able to run one entry, having to download the entry itself is enough of a pain already. :(

Universal Adaptors! by yanmania 2012-09-07T05:57:00

Cool little game, but the fact that hitboxes are messed up and movement doesn't feel as smooth as it could ruins the fun in no-time. Not sure why seagrass would hurt me, either, that was an unpleasant surprise. :D
As for hit detection, it's really to get it pixel-perfect with flixel by using photonstorms flixelpowertools - there's a class called FlxCollision in there which is really handy for this.

The game is probably a bit too linear indeed. On the other hand, I like that you can see so much of the level.
The graphics could need a bit of polish. I suggest you to work on it a bit more to turn this into a fairly good game :)

Glider Drop by tomhunt 2012-09-07T06:51:00

Interesting idea, but why the controls? RShift / RCtrl is like the most inconvenient key possible for rotating tiles because it's so close to the arrow keys. Space would work way better.
I can't really see the evolution theme here.

Spawning Creatures, Evolution of Creatures and Creatures Mayhem by Dracir 2012-09-10T13:17:00

I really like the concept! Gameplay could be a bit more balanced, and graphics are pretty bad. Music was ok, while some additional sfx would be nice.
I love that you can combine units to create new ones.

Would be nice if you allowed the player to hold the number key for spawning a specific unit to keep them coming. It's really annoying to press a key repeatedly 10 times when having saved up some units. Also, a slight homing on bullets would be good, as sometimes, your units just keep shooting into nowhere because they're stuck in an enemy - which doesn't have a very good aim either.

Ninjural Selection by axcho 2012-09-07T09:09:00

Really cool game, has a lot of potential. When I first saw the screenshot of the game, I was certain this is one of those vertical-scrolling "climb-as-high-as-you-can-to-get-a-highscore"-games, in fact, I think that would work pretty well for this and could be a lot of fun.
Controls feel really smooth, but being able to hold S instead having to press it repeatedly would be appreciated.
While the music is really good, I'm missing some sound effects, like for exploding enemies, shooting, jumping etc... Try Bfxr if you don't know that already.

Looking forward to a post-compo version!

LD26 — Minimalism

Exploid by Quarry 2013-04-29T14:29:00

Cool idea, I really like the graphics style as well. However, I really missed sfx and the controls didn't feel good at all.

A fish called Revenge by Tiago Ling Alexandre 2013-05-01T16:30:00

I liked the idea of it, but it was way unbalanced. There's no way I could've killed the boss with such low range and speed. I'm thinking an upgrade-system where your stats increase as you kill squids could work well.

Colourless by Puccini 2013-04-29T15:40:00

I liked it. At first I thought it's just a simple avoider-game, but no, there's actually more to it than just that, which makes it fairly interesting.

Mix by Leebo86 2013-04-29T13:12:00

Seems like this was designed for a mobile device - so I'm neither a huge fan of the control scheme on a normal computer, nor the resolution.

That being said, I like the concept, which certainly fits the theme, and I think this could be quite fun if you implemented another control scheme for PC. Like, Pressing keys 1-3 to select a shape and the arrow keys to move them around.

Laser Drift by MrOtton 2013-04-29T14:41:00

The controls are pretty bad, it's pretty much impossible not to hit the walls which seems to be the main goal.

Shape Attack by Krise20 2013-04-29T14:37:00

A bit annoying that the only way to restart is restarting the game.

The concept of the game seems interesting, but isn't executed well and gameplay doesn't feel good. The other shapes move way too randomnly and fast and you are way too slow in comparison in order to actually be able to plan ahead.

I think the instructions said that you can advance to the next wave by pressing space when you have a bomb - but actually, you can always do that even without a bomb. Also, at high waves, the amount of shapes and the lag that creates is ridicolous.

Line Knight by berareu 2013-05-01T12:39:00

I really like the artstyle and the concept in general. However, it wasn't very playable due to the controls (the animation that makes you freeze for quite a while when switching sides and the fact that jumping automatically makes you tavel horizontally makes it really hard to control).

Minimalist TD by Gama11 2013-04-29T12:27:00

Glad you're enjoying it. I appreciate the comment about the balance, I worked quite a bit on that.

Wave 20 is pretty solid - that's where it gets pretty tough. I don't think it's possible to get much farther. My current highscore is wave 23.

Minimalist TD by Gama11 2013-04-29T14:20:00

@AyCe Wow, level 50 is impressive. I guess I'll have to try again using another strategy. The range thing is really interesting... I guess the tower AI isn't perfect, and if two towers happen to be charged and target the same enemy in a single frame, one shot will be wasted (assuming only one shot is needed to kill him).
However, towers only charge when an enemy is in range.. So yeah.

Minimalist TD by Gama11 2013-04-29T15:35:00

@Ytsy: Wow, I didn't expect a compliment regarding the music. It's the first time I've ever created music myself, and I was wondering whether to include it at all, since I feared that it could actually make the game worse. Thanks! :)

Minimalist TD by Gama11 2013-05-08T13:46:00

@Tiago Ling Alexandre: Yeah, exactly, that's what I used. :)

Trial and Error by Stiju 2013-04-29T15:16:00

Kinda remineded me of Closure.

While the concept is acutally a nice idea, it gets repetitive really fast, as the only way to explore a level is die over and over - trial and error, like the title of the game says.

We Need Potato by pl0xz0rz 2013-04-29T17:16:00

The controls aren't even nearly responsive enough for you to be able to avoid obstacles and enemy bullets, which kinda ruins it. Also, I don't really like the idea of losing HP over time.

(Follow the) Line by Chman 2013-04-29T15:52:00

Loving it - this is exactly my type of game (the go-for-a-highscore-type). Perfectly fits the theme and great fun, I'm only missing music and sfx.

RPG by jcvsmc 2013-04-29T17:24:00

I really liked it and played it for a surprisingly long time. This is probably as basic as a RPG can get, so you nailed the theme.

The difficulty curve seemed rather steep. You have to grind quite a bit in order to be able to hope to make any progress at all in the second area. Too much IMO.

The resolution seems unnecessarily small to me.

My favourite part is probably the music, which was incredibly well-done.

Minimalismizer by Diamonde 2013-04-29T15:02:00

Hitboxes seem a bit off - like, I die to whirlwinds when I don't feel like I even touched them. The fact that you have to restart from the beginning adds to the frustration this creates. Would be nice if you had more than one life.

Colissions in general seem a bit buggy. You can get blocked from jumping while pressing against a seemingly vertical wall - here's the area I'm talking about: http://i.imgur.com/2FdepSQ.png. I also fell through a moving platform once. Another thing is that shooting doesn't always work when you're mid-air.

PATCh by egos 2013-04-29T17:42:00

Really interesting and innovative game. But it seems more luck than skill-based.

TOWER DEFENSE REWIND by optimality 2013-04-29T15:32:00

The game mechanics aren't really properly explained in-game. The crucial part, namely that waves are getting easier and that it's a risk-reward thing - because without knowing that, the player will just remove all the towers, lose and wonder what the point is.

That being said, I found this to be quite an interesting concept.

Avoid by jm77345 2013-04-29T17:37:00

The link above gives me a 404. The Google Drive link downloads a .gmz-file, which I have no idea what to do with. :/

SquareRoot by Masadow 2013-05-02T09:51:00

Really liked the concept. However, it gets a bit frustrating because hitboxes feel off - for example, you don't die immediately when touching a wall, but rather when you're already half into it. Also, circles uses squares as hitboxes that are bigger than they are. Consider the use of FlxCollision or decrease the size of the hitboxes.
In general, the movement speed of the player seems a little too fast considering the amount of precision required to complete a lot of the levels (or at least in the pink areas).

Being taken back to the level select screen after you complete one really breaks the flow of the game, because you are forced to pick up your mouse again in a game that is keyboard-based entirely. Just take me to the next level! :)

I liked the menu music more than the actual in-game music. I'd consider switching them.

Against the Current by iambored2006 2013-04-29T14:49:00

Really cool concept and minimalistic for sure, but overly frustrating. Couldn't get past level 5 which made it less fun than it could've been. The hitbox of the player felt a bit big, reducing the hitbox in size would already greatly improve playability (or just reducing the player's size in general so its easier to dodge things).

Too Much Loot! by CheesyRamen 2013-04-29T15:09:00

The GUI would be a lot better if the stats actually matched their element in color (like, items that are Fire are written in red color etc). That would help a lot.

Also, it'd be nice if you could see what a chest contains before picking it up, because you might end up dropping an item for a worse one just because you can't progress otherwise. Like, there are a lot of chests blocking your path, and you actually have to drop an item to be able to pass by opening them.

DudeJump by agnulf 2013-04-29T15:47:00

I don't think it's a good design design that you have to start over when you fail a room. That just makes it frustrating and led me to quitting at room 4.
Controls were alright, but could be better. They're a bit "floaty" like someone else pointed out.
Alternative jump keys would've been nice - like being able to use the up arrow.

Liked the graphical style and the music.

Antichromatic by arkeus 2013-04-29T12:19:00

Impressive amount of content and polish considering the time limits. Gameplay is pretty solid. Controls seem alright as well.

I don't think the music fits all that well, that could as well be my personal opinion only.
I actually ran into a bug where I was unable to continue due to being insta-killed near a turret as soon as I respawn. Here's a screenshot of the location: http://i.imgur.com/xLumXn7.png Not quite sure what caused it, but I guess switching dimensions quite a lot might have contributed to it.

To be honest, I don't think this game really fits the theme except for the limited use of colors. But then again, the theme is pretty stupid anyway.

Skyrim Simplified by Zer0XoL 2013-04-29T12:35:00

Haha, this was quite minimalistic indeed. But still, I'd have liked a life bar, a score and a way to restart the game. Also, I felt like the guards should've been a bit tougher to kill. Would've made gameplay a bit more interesting.

Pipe Dreams by JAH2488 2013-05-01T15:53:00

Reall liked it. However, I wasn't able to figure out how to do the second level that cointained a yellow powerup. In fact, wouldn't even have been able to figure out what the yellow powerup even does without reading through the comments. You need better tutorialization. :)

Ping by lapogo 2013-04-29T14:54:00

Hm... this is basically Breakout without blocks to break... Or Pong where the other paddle is replaced by a wall. Not terribly fun or intersting.

First, You Take A Potato by KevinZuhn 2013-04-29T15:24:00

Haha, this is awesome. Love the humour, the graphics, the atmosphere and the music. Can't really say it doesn't fit the theme, either.

The ending / what happened when I stopped playing to write this comment really surprised me. Really like the message there. Awesome! :D

Gameplay-wise, I think it'd been more entertaining / kept me playing for longer if the messages you get as a "reward" weren't randomized (of course that'd have to be done once you run out of messages). That way, it'd feel like there's actually some sort of progression.

LD46 — Keep it alive

Keep The Beat Alive! by Willops 2020-04-23T22:23:46Z

This reminded me quite a bit of some early rhythm-based Flash games such as Streamline or Music in Motion. A lot of fun!

Efi by ludipe 2020-04-29T18:30:16Z

Very reminiscent of a classic Flash game called [Line Game](https://www.kongregate.com/games/arcadepanic/line-game). :)

Keep It Alive by danman9914 2020-04-29T17:17:49Z

Somehow everything about this reminded me of _Papers, Please_ (which is a big compliment) I don't even have anything to nit-pick for once! :slight_frown:

Tumble Baby by 01010111 2020-04-21T21:37:39Z

Extremely polished little puzzler. The only issue I noticed is the sound glitching out when I got one of the red guys stuck in a wall. Luckily you didn't disable the HaxeFlixel's built-in sound tray / controls. :)

I just hope this isn't based on real-life events!

Tower Defence of the Heart by terry 2020-04-29T16:33:14Z

Pretty fun little TD game with what feels like a good difficulty balance (though I only made it about halfway through).

A few parts did lack some polish: I would have appreciated speed up / slow down / pause buttons, as is common in TD games. Or at least don't start the game right away before placing the first tower / before you've even had a chance to get "acclimated to" the UI. Also, a way to restart the game without reloading the page would've been good. Oh, and I managed to accidentally place a tower in a random spot more than once because I was impatient on the title screen and double clicked.

Incredible art and atmosphere!

I have to admit it took me a bit to figure out how it's played. Likely that's partially due to lack of feedback when hovering over something clickable (using a hand cursor for that would've been nice), which resulted in me trying to click the red icon that hovers over your head repeatedly. After I got the hang of it it was quite fun though!

A countdown for when you're about to lose might've been nice too.

Phil the Fish? I see what you did there...

Pretty fun! But never make me pick up the mouse in a keyboard-based game. ;)

Quite a unique take on the genre with the momentum mechanics!

Very minor complaint: my muscle memory always makes me use "R" as a restart key, at first I even thought that there is no restart button. :) It's nice that it's forgiving and allows you to undo single steps though.

Great use of audio, made for a cool atmosphere!

Something I felt was missing is some score on game over to give you some indication of how well you did, even if it's just "seconds survived".

I think I might have preferred WASD-based movement to allow you to dodge while shooting, but overall it's still quite polished and fun to play. Also has an appropriate level of difficulty to trigger that "one more run" reflex. :)

Like somebody else, I also noticed occasional lag spikes.

I have to agree with the previous comment about controls being a bit cumbersome, especially if you were trying to use the gamepad controls and the on-screen hints only show keyboard controls. Overall an incredible entry though!

Not sure if this is actually winnnable, but it's certainly a lot of fun to try!

Pirabbit by TimeTravelHamster 2020-05-01T13:51:50Z

Certainly polished, but I found it a bit too easy / repetitive / slow-paced.

King's Table by PetTurtle 2020-05-01T14:02:58Z

Great concept! Thematically I was a bit confused why there's a "dice tower". :)

The weakest part in my opinion was the UI - I would've liked tooltips to indicate how much a tower will cost _before_ I click on it, or even better, just show the prices all the time. I also would've liked a "preview" of the attack patterns _before_ placing a tower. Also, some indication for when hovering over a tile that would block the path if you were to build there.

The sound effects are perfect, though a bit jarring once you become powerful enough.

Pretty fun overall!

Rule of thumb: never make me pick up the mouse to restart in a keyboard-based game, it breaks the flow.

I've always loved games that combine two existing concepts into something new. On top of that, this one is also remarkably well-made!

The Little Ship That Could by gama-11 2020-04-20T10:13:51Z

@gamepopper Nice score!

You should have seen this at the start of the game? Maybe clicked too soon so it was dismissed right away?

It doesn't show on subsequent tries if you've beaten at least one wave, but it will show again if you reload the tab.

@nikor That's kind of what I was aiming for. Practice makes perfect. ;)

Nice take on the theme, with "it" referring to your _party_ instead of just one person / thing! :) Cool visuals too, those got me to click on the game in the first place.

Like @paul-merkamp I noticed that you seem to start out with no coins, but that doesn't seem to prevent you from hiring adventurers - there might just be a bug that makes the text field not show the actual coins value initially.

Something that wasn't immediately clear to me is how you can keep a party member alive, but turns out you can "return to the surface" via the first door. It seems like this heals wounded party members as well.

A few nitpicks: - The camera movement was too slow for my taste (both WASD and mouse wheel). - Some basic sound effects would have been nice. - Since you're meant to take many trips before you can finish the game, having to click through the same dialogue over and over can get a bit tiring, but maybe there's a shortcut to skip I haven't found.

Surprisingly fun considering the very simple mechanics! Not sure who I was playing against, but it felt like he was kicking my ass. :D

I agree that some basic stats UI would've a been cool addition.

Stand Still by Draelent 2020-04-21T21:24:17Z

I found it extremely confusing that the "Level 1" textfield can kill you, I kept thinking I was dying to that first dart and that the hitboxes must be off somehow. Even after figuring it out by reading the comments here I still died to it ~~once~~ twice more because somehow this just doesn't click with my brain - it sort of automatically filters out the UI I guess.
