Wow the gameplay is so original !
It says LD36 instead of LD46 when you download it.
I really like the graphics, and the way you made a version of Tetris with a completely different goal was interesting.
That's a really clever twist to the lemmings. Great art and music. Overall I was really impressed by the level of polish!
Congratulations! You made a very good game! I enjoyed every part, not much to say. it really shows a high level of polishing.
Also, if you are into the fps style, check out my game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/the-last-hope-1
A very clever concept, and well presented also, with a lot of polish. A great interpretation of the theme and quite fun. Maybe giving the player a little bit of time to scope out the level first before it starts could be helpful. Great job!
@nogam thanks so much, its one of the few games of mine I'm actually almost proud of.
@billnotic oh.... I dont know why i keep typing LD36... sorry that was super dumb of me (i dont think i typed it right anywhere)... anyways thanks for your kind words. :3
@megaqueijo thanks i think like 99% of the jam i was polishing, i really wish i got more content into it, but as the description said i was practicing polishing my artwork, game-play and animation hoping to do a more commercial game soon. :3
@damian1ilin Thanks! and ill be sure to check it out. <3
@blakegamedev the original doodles (i do doodles instead of design docs dont judge me :P) showed the UFO haveing free movement, based on my older jam game SnowDropRock (on my itch.io page if you want to try it out) with a nice screen scrolling area and much larger worlds and multiple Limes (the little creatures your saving), but it proved quite early on that i was biting off more than i could chew so i made it all one screen, thats why the levels are so easy (still unsure if thats a good or bad thing), the pause and count down was cut quite late. ill likely add that back in to an after jam build if I get around too it.
For some reason me and a friend could not load level 8 but it was a lot of fun and how you introduced the concept was very funny
Really cool graphics! Especially parallax on main screen and bubbles =)
Oh thank you so so much for pointing that out @angelo-saez Level 8, 9 and 11 softlocks the game, I'm hoping to be able to fix this ASAP but as of right now i cant work out what is creating this massive error, ill post a bug fixed version (under the rules critical bugs like this I can fix as long as I don't add any content).
Nice game, it reminds me of Sandman, Enemy 585 and Mega Mash's Nitrometris bits. :P The pixel art is lovely and I enjoyed the music a lot. It was kind of a shame that the music restarted every time I restarted a level, as I restarted quite a bit due to the puzzle aspect of it. Everything overall responds pretty well - I think the game was pretty generous in the detection of when the lime gets crushed due to a block and I enjoyed using the aspects of Tetris as a mechanism to get a character to the goal.
There was one instance of one of the ledge levels (High Ledge) where I was able to place a block on the topmost ledge way above the dotted line despite when I reloaded the level, I couldn't do it again. I also had trouble navigating the level select menu when I had the mouse controls activated. The menu says to swipe to scroll, but when I tried to "swipe" by clicking and dragging down, I would just get stuck on the top part of the level select. I notice that the menu moves when I move the mouse, but it didn't really allow me to select anything past the first level with the mouse alone.
I think it would definitely be worth fixing those softlocks as soon as possible, and as you mention, would be within the rules. The rest of the game is pretty solid as it is. The added challenge of collecting the star was a nice touch.
Two good games in one ! Nice
Wow I really like this game!
@random-storykeeper thanks for the names of those games, i dont think i really played any of them. also sorry about the music restarting, im unsure what exactly triggers a restart but its 100% not intended to restart. and that probblem with putting a tile above the dotted line is something i never encountered before, that said the line was only added like an hour and a half before then end of the jam (its something i for sure am going to look into).
the thing with mouse controls is that i think i accidentally inverted it at some point so try swiping the opiset direction than the way you intend to go. and when clicking the mouse it would only select the selected option (the one thats highlighted), not sure if it helps or not overall the mouse control on the menus are pretty poorly programmed in my opinion.
Also I'm still trying to work out what triggers those soft-locks, so far I'm still confused on what is triggering it.
This is a very clever combination of both games! Well done!
Really nice and cozy game. I love the art and the mood it creates. And if this is your first time... then perfectly executed. I bow to you.
Really nice looking game! I like it very much, even that I'm too bad at it.
It's a really cool game. The graphics, the parallax effect on the menu the particles and the sound design make the game look really polished. I've got some problem to move in the menu and got stuck one time, but overall a really great game.
Really fun to play! Also I really liked the artwork and the gamed made a quite well-rounded and polished experience.
Very clever use of tetris mechanics and lemmings gameplay. The aesthetics of the game and general polish is awesome, nice job.
Love the graphics, and would never have thought of mixing lemmings and Tetris. One of the best I've encountered this jam.
This is a good mashup entry, especially the audio. Couldn't get past level 3, the lemming moved way too fast. Probably my machine. Probably also my old hands.
Awesome Game :-)
What an amazing concept! with some amazing art style. The game is super fun, huge congratulation!
Very clever Lemmings + Tetris mashup, loved the art and execution!
Good idea, good graphics and sound design!
Lovely visuals and sound
Very cool game, nice use of the tetris mechanics, I found the game hard at first but was enjoying trying again and again and tried to build a clever way for my lemming haha :) Very good work the music is also very chill
UPDATE EVERYONE, the error when Playing some levels has been fixed, download the latest version for a bug free build of BoxOfLimes!
Very cool idea to fit the theme, using an old and easily recognized mechanic but with new elements. The graphics and sound are also on point, makes the game a very pleasant experience to play.
I however found a bug. Game freezes upon entering level 8 - to the point. By passing level 7 or loading through continue the result was the same for me. Had to manually close the application through task manager after this.
Excellent job on this entry. Congrats!
hay @derek-volker i just uploaded the patch fixing that error you just missed it, re-download it from itch.io and it should be 100% working as intended.
I love the lemmings :) great idea !
Simply amazing! I loved it!!! All! Idea, gameplay, art, animation, music (very exciting). A happy son of Lemmings and Tetris. I will leave this game saved on my computer to try to get all the stars. Unfortunately there was an error after phase 10 (I think) and the game closed. I couldn't play at the end ... :(
But anyway, congratulations on the excellent game !!
Ah, @euler-moises just found that error, ill be posting a patch to the game though that said you wouldnt be missing much, its just the end screen, ill post a critical fix fixing the crash. thanks for pointing it out.
Update @euler-moises the latest version has the bug fixed, redownload it from itch.io if you want to see the end screen (save data should copy over perfectly fine as well). :3 https://reddashgames.itch.io/box-of-limes-ld46
The idea is amazing ! And the rest is just as much !
Really fun and innovative game! Only thing I had issues with was the tutorial level, which I felt was a little choatic, especially all the text. Otherwise an amazing game!
Sooooo cool :) Nice job
Very cool combining the two themes! This would've been good for Ludum Dare 41 too.
Amazing pixel art & animations , amazing depth of detail and content for just 48h.
One minor problem ( on Windows 10 maybe?) is the mouse doesn't sync up to the ship/ cursor , so I end up using keyboard.
Very creative idea, re purposing the tetris mechanics for your game! I like the art style alot and had alot of fun stacking the blocks to help guide the character. May have squashed it a couple times too 0_0. Over great game and can wait to see what you do with it post jam.
this game looks very good. it also interesting and tough. good job
I really enjoyed this. The beginning was a bit rough but I think the difficulty curve was pretty good (I made it to the level "High Ledge" before stopping) and it helps that the pieces are in a fixed order throughout the entire game. The art is really good and easy to read and the mechanics are a neat blend of Tetris and Lemmings.
Some constructive criticism: - Movement feels a bit slow and part of this is the fact that the UFO has requires some minimum key pressed time before moving. I think it would feel a lot better if the game registered all key presses and queued up the animations (with some max input buffer of say 3 inputs). Another part of this is that the animations in general are a bit slow and a fast forward button to skip waiting for the lemming to move to a specific part of the screen would be helpful. Finally, I think piece dropping could be slightly faster since it's a bit hard to judge if a piece might hit the lemming by the time it drops. - In the level First Morning, I think it would help to remove the pit to the left. That level took me longer to complete than the next 2 or so, partly because I was getting used to the game. Having a timing element where the game state permanently changes if you don't act seemed like too much complexity for the first level. - (minor nitpick): It'd be cool if the background animation showing you how to play were replaced with a keyboard animation if you're using keyboard, given that the game already has some logic to detect between a keyboard mode and a mouse mode.
Overall I really enjoyed this and it's in my top 3 of the jam so far!
Love the concept and the graphics are charming. The animations look really good, though they sometimes give a feeling of too much going on. Audio is well matched to the graphics and mood of the game.
Maybe I'm just an odd one out, but the controls were a bit awkward for me. The tutorial was also kind of confusing. The mouse didn't seem to want to line up and with the keyboard I kept accidentally hitting 'r' instead of 'z' for rotate. For the latter issue, I'm probably just used to another game/program though.
Ignoring the controls, this is an overall really polished game. It's a fun game mechanic and may be worth developing further.
Really amazing stuff. I like the combo of lemmings and tetris. The graphics are great, you were able to use a lot of color in such a small space. Who knew that mixing these game elements would gel so well together. Keep up the great work!
Great work! I love the genre mashup here. I really had to slow myself down and think about what I was doing. I would say that the menus are a tad confusing. Great art, and amazing work!
By the way I'm curious what engine did you use when creating this game?
The visuals and gameplay of this is amazing! Especially if this is made by one person, and a girl too. Most girls I know don't code, so this is pretty phenomenal.
Clever puzzle game, impressive for a one-person one-weekend project! I wish there was less lag on moving the UFO using the mouse, and that I could move/rotate the piece after releasing it, like in tetris.
@herman-chau there is a speedup button as said on the page its Space.and there is controls for doing backing up inputs but that just made it nearly uncontrollable and feel very laggy and ruined the whole feel of the game.
First Morning was designed to have that pit so you had space to learn the controls and place a few blocks down as the "pit" keeps the player in one place and makeing it easy to get the Lime out of the hole as well, without it it was easy to die right away, only resion why the Lime doesnt start in the pit was to show how the creature moved around the world you can see a very simmler level at the end of the game (forgot what i called it) without the pit and its likely the 3rd hardist in the game.
and First Morning's background tutorial board thing was made last second didn't get time to do the graphics for that. though i expected people to really read the games instructions on the page but from the looks nobody reads them, even though a lot of other games here dont have any tutorial in game and its all on the page something i really dont get.
@thecritterscove I used Z due to it being the common Tetris rotation button, i never-seen any game use R for rotation R is restart due to it being far far away from all other buttons so you cant hit it by mistake.
@camden-obertop I used GameMakerStudio2 if you want to know. :3
and i noticed for my mouse calculations i didn't keep in count the resizable window, sorry about that.
Wow this game was super fun! A really neat blend of two puzzle classics that work surprisingly well together. The art is very polished and has a nice cohesive style to it. Really chill and mellow atmosphere that gets me into the puzzle-solving mindset. I especially liked the levels with spikes where I was doing pathbuilding ahead of time or building reactively to keep up with the Lime, that was a very cool twist on the game's core mechanic.
Overall an awesome job and I think this game has a ton of potential for expansion! :D
The concept is great and the execution is also great. Skylands was a bit of difficulty spike, but no further complaints. Though, the whole time I played the sound didn't work (30 min). Then I moved the file from the downloads folder to a folder named "awesome games" and it worked fine. So, I guess there is some kind of bug, but I'm not sure. I played version "fixed2".
Very innovative gameplay, cute graphics, lovely music. One of the best LD46 games I have seen so far.
Just 5 stars everything, it blew my mind how polished, original and plain fun this is! The best game I've tried so far by a wide stretch. CONGRATULATIONS on this awesome achivement, and thanks for sharing it with all of us! :D
Amazingly polished and innovative game, definitely feels like a complete game through and through! Great job!
Holy cow... ship that! Really top notch stuff!!!
That's an awesome idea mixing the lemmings and tetris up. Looks great too!
Brilliant, really enjoyed playing this and the mix of games worked so well together. Found it really satisfying passing the levels and trying to figure out the best path to the exit was. The art and music also worked really well together and showed how polished the game is. Great job and congrats on finishing your first Ludum Dare.
Loved it. Would really like to see the source code for this one...
Super smart game, really liked it. Got stuck but really enjoyed trying to figure out when to drop and which block. Loved how different it was smashing 2 great games into one. Amazing job!!
Loved this game! The art is great and building your own stage using tetris mechanics feels super good. Well done!
Oh, too bad there is not a web build, I want to try this so much!
@jeremyfa is the problem that your using Linux or Mac? if so try Wine, it works perfectly with this game.
@reddashgames yup I am on a mac. I will be able to try your game using Shadow (remote windows computer for gaming), but obviously that's a bit less convenient than clicking on a web link and directly play in the browser, I guess I am lazy :)
Amazing, one of my favorite so far. I have nothing to complain. Good job here!
Lemmings??? (ok, "lime"...) Oh my :o What a wonderful look and feel to this game, with all sorts of unnecessary doodads and bells and whistles. The title screen even pans around!
Got 2 stars on all 12 levels. Things definitely got easier as I got used to the mechanics!
Thanks for this game, it was great!
I've always loved games that combine two existing concepts into something new. On top of that, this one is also remarkably well-made!
Nice game! I saw your progress during the jam, happy to see you ended with such a good game!
This game is amazingly impressive. It almost makes me want to give up game design because it's so good that I could never make anything like it in 72 hours. How the heck did you do such impressive art, music, and smooth menus/UI all in 72 hours? I feel like just getting the basic grid system to work would take 20 work hours alone not including all the smooth animations as it interacts with it.
I'm blown away.
Anyway, I played the entire game on stream, I can share a link of my playthough. I was able to get all the stars however there is a small visual glitch when you complete a level with both stars, it will look like the first one is not completed at the end of the level (it does record it correctly though).
Finally I tried to get the star and escape "The End". I got the star and then made it to the top right of the screen but that was not an exit. Is there a way to finish "The End"?
Either way, this game completely blew me away with how much you did in such short time. Even if you take out the art, the UI, the sound, and the music it is an incredble accomplishment for such short time.
Thanks @joe40001 and I'll love to see a video of your stream. Anyways dont give up the game under all the art and prittyness was made in like 15-30 minits just some basic tile movement (move 8 tiles every time) then the graphic lerps from one point to another then just adding some polish to the game. under all the polish its a really simple basic game so dont give up!
This is so good! I absolutely love when a game can mash up two codified mechanics in such a cool way! Great work :D
Here is the VOD of me playing your game on stream: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhXLQHA-5Z4
Like I said very impressed with it. You being able to make the art in 15-30 min is crazy. I wish I was that fast/good. Anyway here are the relevant timecodes:
3:46:45 Started Game
4:23:20 Started END screen attempts
4:37:00 My END screen "success" (is there a way to actually beat this screen?)
