LD46 — Keep it alive

Keep It Alive by danman9914 2020-04-21T01:32:06Z

A lot of the submissions so far have just been people making regular games since in most games you try to keep the player alive, but this truly felt like it was designed specifically for the theme. Plus, the game itself is just plain fun. Good job.

Cool Rat 3D: Adventures in the Houseplant Zone by mmason 2020-04-21T01:34:32Z

Are there instructions? I have no idea what I'm actually supposed to be doing.

Division Decisions by Sn4pi 2020-04-20T23:26:12Z

Link isn't working.

B R U I S E S by leafthief 2020-04-21T00:11:43Z

I'm loving the game, but it isn't related to the theme.

Untitled Phoenix Game by CptFinn 2020-04-21T02:58:34Z

Good use of the theme, it felt like you built your game around it, unlike most submissions where it feels like the theme is a side thing rather than the focus.

Keith's Flint & Steel by johnnysix 2020-04-21T03:39:03Z

Art is nice, but it is unclear what is happening or what to do.

Indiana Farm by Pathus22 2020-04-21T01:37:40Z

Interesting rage game but it doesn't really fit the theme.

LD-46 Tower Defense by AlexHicks 2020-04-20T22:45:55Z

The load time is insane.

Dream Hoppers by giu.zcc 2020-04-21T03:54:09Z

The game looks good, but the theme doesn't fit.

Oak Defenders by Hugimugi7 2020-04-22T03:18:27Z

This game is very enjoyable, but it isn't good at explaining what to do. I figured it out, but pretty late into my playthrough when you unlock blowers (nice PVZ reference by the way). I also loved the tree's face, it was really charming, and the enemies sprites were great, with the frog being my favorite.

Don't Kill Gil by webthingee 2020-04-20T23:52:46Z

The sound effects feel very out of place, and the gameplay lacks variety, but I still enjoyed the short time I played it.

Life of the Party by OrdiNeu 2020-04-21T03:45:13Z

You used the theme really well here. The game is very hectic and I like that, but the player controls a bit too much like they're on ice or something.

Prometheus: The Fire Gods by Storyteller Games 2020-04-21T02:07:42Z

The itch.io page doesn't work.

Gaia by Caveman54 2020-04-22T00:56:43Z

I enjoyed the experience, but the sound effects were quite jarring. Some graphics also didn't fit the others nicely, such as the ones for the crater and mountain.

Faire L'Amour aux Plantes by Jenny Bourke 2020-04-21T01:52:40Z

I mean the gameplay is literally just clicking, but the art was cute and the idea was fun. Fits the theme quite well too because it does feel like you are frantically trying to keep the plants alive.

MegaCorn - Strategy / Economy Simulator by KittRangers 2020-04-20T22:26:51Z

I like the aesthetic, but I have no idea what is happening.

Switch.tv by Mahou 2020-04-21T02:06:17Z

The download link leads to a .txt file.

Program has stopped working by Alexander Wayne 2020-04-20T22:37:45Z

There is no audio at all except for a small blip when you get hurt. Would've made it a lot better if the game was less silent.

Milk distress by E-server 2020-04-21T04:04:00Z

The game lags whenever you change floor, but other than that I enjoyed it. Escorting the milkman works well, and the ragdoll physics and binder-throwing is just dumb fun.

QT's Cells by Mental Inaction 2020-04-22T23:18:16Z

Everything was perfect except the for the music which I found worsened the experience rather than enhance it. Loved the cute pixel art and the fact that the story was actually worth paying attention to is great.

Box Of Limes by RedDashGames 2020-04-20T23:40:58Z

It says LD36 instead of LD46 when you download it.

I really like the graphics, and the way you made a version of Tetris with a completely different goal was interesting.

Medic! Keep'em Alive by Robert Li 2020-04-21T02:47:35Z

I like the pixel art, but the different pixel sizes is kinda jarring. Also, the screen moves along at snail speed and bullets don't feel like bullets because of how slow they move. Fits the theme great, and is nice and simple.

Milk for A Dead Man (Web and Downloads Available) by Billnotic 2020-04-21T04:31:56Z

Any feedback down here in the comments would be appreciated. This is my first game jam ever and I want to make the most out of it as possible.

Edit: I'm aware of the skip in Level 4 where you can just go through the bottom path and get hit once or twice by a zombie without dying. That wasn't intentional, there was an actual puzzle solution. A bit too late to change that now though.

Edit 2: Apparently if timed right, you can just walk through the bat at the top of Level 3 and only get hit once. That is not the intended solution, and should be pretty hard to achieve in a normal playthrough.

Son of a Liche by goblinkingmatt 2020-04-21T04:15:43Z

The gameplay is stupid, but in a fun way. I do wish the graphics were better, and maybe some sound effects as well.

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Deepspace by Willops 2021-04-28T23:02:08Z

Great art style, and a good framework for a thoughtful and in depth game. Unfortunately, as it stands, getting a cooler and two heaters make the game practically an instant win because you kill every enemy in one shot except for the boss (which I got with the green colored laser instead). A bug I noticed was that spam clicking the flee button would make you flee instantly from subsequent encounters without having to wait for them to score a free hit. Way too easy, but I really loved the UI and the system screen gave me strong FTL vibes (which is a good thing!) Good game .

You Killed Someone by RetroSpecter 2021-04-27T01:43:49Z

AMONG US IN REAL LIFE (sus) (sus)

Morning Shift by Iluvatar 2021-04-30T01:06:34Z

This was a fun point and click adventure game. The art was great! I wish there was more content, and some sort of music or background noise. Good submission!

Red Stranding by Alchemic 2021-04-28T22:02:28Z

Everything was good, but the HTML5 version's audio is scuffed as hell. I also really like how the game is "online" in a sense, neat addition!

Seven Sleepy Nights by Osterzone 2021-04-28T21:57:03Z

This was a unique take on the theme! I found that I was getting bored while waiting for the clock to tick faster, and I wasn't sure exactly when it would go off. The audio cues weren't the most clear, but overall I found the game quite interesting.

Chameleon Excavation by NykolaR 2021-04-26T04:51:42Z

Web build has some glaring audio and lag issues, and there is no tutorial or indication of how to play. It looks high effort, but it's difficult to play as is.

Despair by blaster391 2021-04-28T23:19:19Z

While the graphics look rushed, the gameplay itself is quite fun, although player movement was too slow for my liking.

Deep Asleep by Sestren 2021-04-28T23:09:59Z

YOU CAN PET THE DOG! Game is nice, but very short.

Doomino's Pizza by Ryfi 2021-04-27T23:40:52Z

Cute graphics, controls are pretty meh, but I like the pizza delivery concept.

Also is it just me or does the level end sound effect sound like the samsung alarm?

The Life Aquatic by Cary Stanley 2021-04-26T02:58:12Z

I wish the rocks were more connected instead of just being squares with no outline. I also wish the submarine controlled a bit easier. Overall nice entry, the voice acting was a nice touch.

Space Mining by Krapht 2021-04-27T12:28:32Z

Everything felt simple and intuitive, and it was fun. I wish there was some kind of audio aside from the ambient noise, and since the robot is able to fly forever, it is fairly easy to just fly over enemies. I wish the game felt a bit better, but overall good effort for such a short amount of time.

Deepest Dwarf Dungeon by NinjaCatz 2021-04-29T21:56:53Z

It's a fun game, although it can be quite difficult and a little unforgiving. Although maybe that's just because I haven't played a bullet hell in a while .

Quick Scrap by Vimlark 2021-04-27T23:03:59Z

This was a good submission! Fully restarting levels got annoying as your character feels very floaty not entirely in your control, but overall it felt fun to play.

The Long Walk by SquareBoxCompany 2021-04-26T05:02:03Z

Am I dumb, or is the game not available on itch.io?

Beautiful blob by Hestrateja 2021-04-26T02:24:17Z

Music detracts from the experience, and the pixel upscaling makes the visuals blurry. However, the game fits the theme very well and is a neat take on it.

6 Feet Under by theStoff 2021-04-29T22:26:42Z

Simple but enjoyable! The game was really difficult for me, but I had I still ended up having a great time.

Throneless by AdamCYounis 2021-04-27T01:28:13Z

I'm impressed this was made in such a short period of time. Some music would be nice, and the game feels monotonous after a while, but overall good game!

Agent In Depth by Yigit Doruk 2021-04-29T01:24:31Z

HUGE Katana Zero vibes, which is a great thing because I love KZero so much I learned to speedrun it. Maybe because of that the game felt a little quick? I noticed some hitbox inconsistencies, such as the player's injury collision box being larger than the sprite. Other hitbox inconsistencies, like a larger blade hitbox are actually a nice inclusion, but they don't last the entire time the animation is up. Lighting is great, you use normalmapping on the pixel art to support proper 2d realtime shading, which I can appreciate. A lot of work went into this, and with a little more polish it could really be something! Great entry!

Cavin' by HeylloPotato 2021-04-29T02:46:47Z

Collision boxes are way off, and a lack of tutorial meant that it was impossible to know that you can regrapple mid-air with extra worms (I ended up reading it in the comment), but the game itself looks decent, it just desperately needs a little more polish. After beating it, I enjoyed it, but it is incredibly short.

Red Archer by BadPiggy 2021-04-28T22:26:43Z

I liked the movement, but the slowmode meant that until you fight the man, you are basically just looking for enemies and left clicking the entire game without much difficulty. Once I fought the man, I shot him and he wouldn't die (I assume he had health, but there was no enemy health bar so there was no way to know), and eventually I tried killing the demons that summoned, but attacking them hurt me despite not touching projectiles at all. I died, and then nothing happen, I just layed on the ground and couldn't restart the level or do anything. It's buggy, but for a game made in such little time it's to be expected. Overall pretty fun!

Hellevator by baconn00 2021-04-28T22:11:10Z

Loved the graphics, but was a bit confused at first. Would have liked to be able to choose when to continue text, instead of having it progress automatically. Good submission!

Hellivator by Billnotic 2021-04-26T12:27:44Z

@tim77 I agree the controls are not forgiving at all, originally I was going to add a dash mechanic that was upgraded with the suit, but I ran short on time :(. Thanks for the quality feedback!

LATE EDIT: I added it for the jam submission.

Hellivator by Billnotic 2021-04-26T12:30:43Z

@youthfulidealism Thanks for the kind words! Coyote time would definitely by a nice addition. I thought about adding it earlier on, but I pushed it off thinking I'd do it Sunday. I ended up forgetting about it lol. Also, I agree that being able to see which materials to collect while outside the elevator would be useful. Maybe some kind of addition to the UI?

LATE EDIT: Both were added for the jam submission.

Hellivator by Billnotic 2021-04-26T12:33:34Z

@delicioussalad Thanks! I hate reading tutorials that are just plain text (like instructions on the game page, or a "How to Play" section in-game), so I try to make them integrated into the game while staying ignorable if you're replaying it. Glad to see others like it too!

Hellivator by Billnotic 2021-04-26T12:34:51Z

@lakshyaisagod I wouldn't give myself that rating, but I'm happy to hear someone else would :)

EDIT: They edited their comment?

Hellivator by Billnotic 2021-04-26T20:32:12Z

@kristinamay I appreciate the kind feedback :)

Hellivator by Billnotic 2021-04-26T20:35:46Z

@noeloskar Good advice, I'll fix it for the jam if I have time. As for this compo entry, if I run into an issue with me using other sound effects I'll just take it down. I don't especially mind since I'm going to resubmit for the 72 hour jam anyways. It is what it is. I hope I'll be fine though.

EDIT: This submission is now for the jam and has been updated.

Hellivator by Billnotic 2021-04-26T21:00:27Z

@mdotedot Where exactly did you get stuck? I'd like to remove any known softlocks for my jam submission.

Hellivator by Billnotic 2021-04-27T00:15:52Z

@goodwincek I guess I didn't make it clear in game, but that isn't where the end of the level is. There is nothing past that. Once you have all of the energium necessary to progress you go back to the elevator. You weren't stuck, it just wasn't clear where to go.

Hellivator by Billnotic 2021-04-27T03:56:07Z

@youthfulidealism Both your suggestions were included in this page's resubmission for the jam. I appreciate the quality feedback.

Hellivator by Billnotic 2021-04-27T03:59:01Z

@cinderblade I couldn't think of anything unique or fitting, so I quickly made a song that was more chill since they tend to be easier and simpler to make. If I had enough time to make a proper soundtrack, I'd for sure add some better more "cave-y" music. Thanks for the feedback!

Hellivator by Billnotic 2021-04-27T04:00:52Z

@rhoff95 Maybe I should have thrown an enemy in on the first level just so player's don't get bogged down with reading all the text. Thanks for the feedback!

Hellivator by Billnotic 2021-04-27T04:12:02Z

@retrospecter The jump is upgraded along with the suit, but I didn't make it very clear. Dashing makes up for it a good bit, but I can understand that it can be tricky to grasp and might feel annoying for the average player. Thanks for the feedback!

Hellivator by Billnotic 2021-04-27T19:11:06Z

@nykolar If I had time, I would’ve added a way to modify settings and screenshake would definitely be something players could tweak. I’m aware it isn’t for everyone . Thanks for the kind words!

Hellivator by Billnotic 2021-04-28T18:00:10Z

@baconn00 Hellevator is a common term, I first heard it from terraria . It’s dark for the atmosphere, but if I had time I should have added a darkness slider in case people couldn’t see well on their monitors. Thanks for the feedback, I’ll try your game as well in a bit!

Hellivator by Billnotic 2021-04-28T18:00:44Z

@eugenik Thank you!

Hellivator by Billnotic 2021-04-29T13:33:46Z

@the1 Screenshake is something I personally love, but I should have added a way to tone it down in case other players didn’t. I appreciate the feedback.

Hellivator by Billnotic 2021-04-29T13:37:38Z

@achila-eranga-mohottige Mineable blocks would have been a great gameplay addition! The inventory is upgraded with the suit, I messed up by not making that clear. If I ever expand on this, I’ll be sure to make the inventory easier to manage! Thanks for playing!

Hellivator by Billnotic 2021-04-29T13:38:54Z

@kenforest Thanks! Once you get rid of the darkness effect it’s a lot less impressive though .

Hellivator by Billnotic 2021-04-29T16:04:27Z

@danial I agree with what you and others are saying, jumps and dashes seems to not be as easy as I thought, and I really should have set time aside for a way to tweak settings. You're right, with some new additions this could really be something cool! I spent most of the time on building the base of the game, so adding more content would be rather easy .

Hellivator by Billnotic 2021-04-30T13:49:01Z

@hamblock Thanks!

Hellivator by Billnotic 2021-04-30T13:54:41Z

@Xeke-Death The sheep is slightly buggy due to it being added in like the final hour . Thanks for playing!

Hellivator by Billnotic 2021-04-30T21:39:27Z

@krexor The jump is relatively weak at the start, but upgrades alleviate that. I should have made it feel fine from the get go instead, but I never really thought about it. Thanks for the feedback!

Hellivator by Billnotic 2021-05-01T20:22:08Z

@simpathey The mouse adjusting the vision definitely made platforming less-than ideal, since I'm working on expanding this game further, I'll be sure to include a way to optimize it! Thanks for playing!

Hellivator by Billnotic 2021-05-03T03:40:16Z

@etrealjunior Thanks for the good feedback, and I'd be glad to try out yours.

Groundbreaker by Danial Jumagaliyev 2021-04-29T03:09:57Z

Repetitive, but there is a good amount of content for a game jam. Nice achievements!

So Deep in Space by KeyLime 2021-04-26T04:46:37Z

Controls are a little too sensitive, but it's a nice and simple game overall.

PANEMUAN by etrealjunior 2021-05-03T03:48:49Z

I liked the art style and the overall concept of the game. The character moving extremely slowly but jumping extremely high felt a little awkward control-wise, and apparently there is a "good ending" that can occur, which was not made clear as for me as it repeated once I completed the game. Nice submission, and a more polished and slightly longer version of this game would be something I'd love to see.

A Musical Interlude by Kohonens 2021-04-29T21:46:24Z

The idea is interesting, but the browser build runs quite poorly and is difficult to understand. With proper polish this could be something really neat!

Mandelbrot Hunt by ksadov 2021-04-26T02:34:40Z

Fractals are cool, love seeing them in games. Don't get how this fits "deeper and deeper." Maybe because you zoom deeper and deeper? idk, but it's a neat concept

Falling Through Love by CinderBlock 2021-04-30T00:57:18Z

Fun game, sometimes it would be impossible to not take damage due to the characters' bounciness when there was one hole. Overall good game !

Asterisk by Crychair 2021-04-28T01:50:28Z

Audio on WebGL is scuffed as hell, but you already seem aware of this. I liked the voice acting a lot, good game!

GOBLIN HAMBURGER LASER ARENA by youthfulIdealism 2021-04-26T03:21:05Z

goblin deez nuts

But seriously, I really enjoyed this. Didn't fit the theme at all, but it was fun albeit weird as hell.

A Deep Stare by Rushhourz 2021-04-26T02:46:15Z

Odd game, don't quite get how it fits the theme. I clipped out of bounds, and every time a block broke, a new set would grow around it. I ended up messing around making some stuff using the bug, which was actually kind of fun. test.PNG The actual gameplay is just an idle game where you look at blocks to my understanding. Wish the idea was elaborated on more, but its not like you had much time.

Johnny Debt by haztro 2021-04-26T03:10:15Z

The game lags to oblivion, dunno if it's just me. Looks like a neat concept, where you get to borrow more and more as you get deeper in debt as the game continues. If the lag is fixed, I'll replay it but at the moment I don't think I can rate it :(

Johnny Debt by haztro 2021-04-26T03:30:09Z

@haztro yeah it was browser, i'll try the downloadable build

Johnny Debt by haztro 2021-04-26T03:41:06Z

Enjoyable at the start, but it got monotonous quite quick. Looks quite nice, and was basically completely bug free. Great submission, but needs music of some sort.

DeepTris by hilkojj 2021-04-26T05:20:33Z

Neat take on a stacker game, fits the theme quite well.

The Exit Is Deep by Exiled Burger 2021-04-27T23:54:57Z

Controls are a little scuffed, and the music wasn't to my liking, but I liked the character and the style. Nice submission!

ROBOTIC A.M. by Zalos 2021-04-28T01:00:54Z

Fun tower defense game, it's a neat take on it and definitely fits the theme. Building can be scuffed at times, however.

Frost Byte by Pious 2021-04-29T03:01:51Z

The lack of audio was unfortunate, and the game lacks an ending. I'm reading the comments and there is an inventory system? It was never explained and I don't know how to use it. Graphics and characters look really good though.

Deep Dungeon by deeemo 2021-04-28T00:12:43Z

Cute graphics, attacking by targeting and being nearby felt strange, maybe have an attack animation that aims towards the mouse to make thing more clear? Overall though nice game

Depths of the Deep by Panacea 2021-04-26T02:51:43Z

Gameplay is the weakest point, I wish it was possible to get from room to room quicker to see the jokes.

Hyperspace Narwhale by styrofoamwaffle 2021-04-29T02:29:47Z

Neat prototype, but overall lacks animation and visual polish. Still, with such little time it's a good submission.

Dig Deep Get Gold by Tim77 2021-04-26T03:28:55Z

Nice and simple style. It doesn't really feel like I'm doing much digging though.

ld48: no-eyes by sesemcc 2021-04-26T03:03:35Z

It's a bit hard to get what you are supposed to do, but I eventually understood it. The tiles make it difficult to understand what does what at first glance, a tutorial or instructions on this page would be nice. Neat concept.

B.R.E.A.K - Bad Robot Enjoys Attacking Krew! by pxlshk 2021-04-26T04:59:50Z

Fun game, good artstyle, although it doesn't seem like the game was built around the theme.

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

PRO TAX SLACKER by pcmaster 2022-04-04T22:43:32Z

Neat concept, felt quite quick and the movement felt too floaty for my taste, but it was interesting to play and I had fun.

🚜 Grain Tracks 🚂 by mcfunkypants 2022-04-04T23:07:39Z

Not quite sure what to do, but the art is really cute and I like the overall look of the game.

Black Holes for Dummies by zimennik 2022-04-04T04:52:25Z

Overall pretty fun, I liked the different endings and its a unique take on the theme.

Overworked & Underpaid by Chartle 2022-04-05T03:36:39Z

Super hectic, fun comedic lines, very enjoyable.

Cursed Unicorn by gord10ahmet 2022-04-04T05:12:25Z

The gameplay was really simple but just didn't do it for me. The tiny y axis meant that to be able to survive longer, you could just fly to one side of the map and then slowly back to the edge while shooting, fly over all the enemies to the other side and repeat. Healing does next to nothing and for most of the early game all you do is upgrade attack speed since you take no damage. Once enemies flood the game and you can't fly over them all, there is nothing you CAN do except heal. Also, I dislike the decision to make shooting automatic. That kind of player input helps to make the game more engaging, and as it stands there isn't much substance to the gameplay. The dead silence also was unfortunate, even some kind of low hum would have really helped the mood. However I really liked the story behind the intro, and the decision to make the enemy eyes glow in the dark was a great choice and helped with the ambience.

Captaining the Demise by GettingRekt 2022-04-04T22:19:36Z

The game feels unwinnable. Without a way of dodging enemies, you are forced to rely on shooting down enemy shots. However, since your firing speed isn't anywhere near fast enough to defend yourself past a certain point, it doesn't feel like you can actually "delay" the inevitable, there is just a set end time where there isn't anything you can do.

To extend the gameplay I would have considered adding more movement and potentially upgrades, but as there is already a "win condition," the passenger and cargo mechanics would have to be reworked.

Good submission, I enjoyed my albeit short time with it.

Send Nukes by MrSchlag2 2022-04-04T23:01:57Z

Man I love nuclear WarioWare. Really fun and polished entry, can't think of much to say except to maybe change the font on the minigame screen so that the letters don't appear as keyboard keys as I got confused by that at first.

I.P.A.D by JGUR 2022-04-04T06:29:58Z

Good proof of concept, but unfortunately gameplay stagnates quite quickly. Different turrets or asteroid types (maybe even aliens or something similar) to shoot at would have helped add some more depth to the game.

The Eyes Upon The Earth by N.O. Games 2022-04-04T04:53:54Z

Fun and crisp gameplay, doesn't overstay its welcome and is simple and easy to understand, good entry!

Model-5C by William Corrin 2022-04-04T06:01:07Z

I enjoyed what I play, graphics were quite good, and aside from minor camera jank the game ran fine. The moving sound got on my nerves a bit as it would cut every few seconds when the audio replayed. Music fit quite well. Don't really see how it fits the theme but maybe I'm missing something.

I don't know if this is a bug, but when I reached the huge trash room, I got a message saying that I couldn't process the trash weight and then the screen went black and I couldn't do anything. Is this the end of the game? Did I do something wrong? If so let me know what to do different and I'll give the game another go.

Overall pretty neat entry.

Necro-king by filgreen3 2022-04-05T04:12:02Z

Had a REALLY fun time with this one. It's super fun, there's a lot of strategy you can employ (but archer-shield seems broken). Personally I wish there was music and sound effects as that would add so much to the experience. Here's my score when I decided to stop (it got repetitive once I become basically unbeatable). whereimat.png

The Greedy Pirates by Rolly 2022-04-04T22:55:46Z

Very neat game, I reached 1488 when a bug appeared where typing wouldn't work no matter what I typed for the last letter. It was unfortunate because I had a really good flow going. Had a lot of fun, only real suggestion I could give is maybe add a way to shoot back at other enemy pirates and add more background graphics, but given the short time from you had to make this I think your game turned out really well.

Great job!

Rocket Lawnchair by jitspoe 2022-04-05T02:34:48Z

Really interesting take on the theme, fun for a good laugh. Rockets gave too much angular velocity in my opinion, but I enjoyed it overall.

Extremely Exteme Sports by kuviman 2022-04-04T23:25:38Z

Loved this, played it with some others while watching a stream, great game with a lot of people, tons of fun.

Only critiques are the music, doesn't fit the hecticness of such an extremely extreme game.

BOOOOM

Gladiwaitor by Lone_Wolf 2022-04-04T06:47:31Z

Sound effects are way too quiet, and the implementation of the theme was odd. The gameplay itself was fun, although I did have some issues with the game not registering keyboard input if I tried to edit keybinds at all.

The voice acting was also fun .

Ripple by Dandala88 2022-04-04T06:20:12Z

It's visually pleasing and a fun little audio project. Not quite a game, not sure how it fits the theme, but it kept my monkey brain entertained so there's that.

Ripple by Dandala88 2022-04-04T06:59:24Z

@dandala88 Oh, interesting! I didn't think of it that way.

5 More Minutes by Sam Horner 2022-04-04T01:40:32Z

Neat take on the theme, the rapidly changing number on the top left was weird but there isn't much else to complain about! Music felt a little too chill for such a hectic situation, but that's about it! Good job!

X-1 - A Game About a Robot Shutting Down by Billnotic 2022-04-04T05:46:29Z

@david-york Yup, forgot to take it off restricted . Should be working now if you still want to give it a shot!

X-1 - A Game About a Robot Shutting Down by Billnotic 2022-04-04T06:24:13Z

@benbennett Thanks for playing! Its a shame I have to remove audio ratings since the music was made by me, but if it conflicts with rules there isn't much I can do about it.

I agree that something else besides recharge stations would have been nice, I was considering adding stations to spend energy on upgrades to traverse new parts of the map, but scope creep got me and I had to cut it .

EDIT: I've been playing a bunch of other compo games and they seem to be using sounds not made during the 48 hours as well - but they leave audio as an option. Since it doesn't seem to be an issue, I'll reenable audio voting. If this ends up being a problem I'll just disable it again.

@frizuo Thank you! I appreciate the kind words.

X-1 - A Game About a Robot Shutting Down by Billnotic 2022-04-04T07:01:06Z

@rxbbie Thanks! The music I made was honestly my favorite thing to come out of this jam .

X-1 - A Game About a Robot Shutting Down by Billnotic 2022-04-04T12:42:17Z

@uzpykes Yeah, I was aware of the issue but didn't really have the time to properly fix it so I added the ability to choose your camera type. It says in one of the text boxes that if you press 1 you can switch to free roam camera but I guess it wasn't the clearest.

Thanks for the feedback!

@owca Yeah, that's how I do tutorials for all my jam games, it makes them way easier to digest. Thanks for playing!

X-1 - A Game About a Robot Shutting Down by Billnotic 2022-04-04T12:53:32Z

@kosmosael Maybe if I added cut mechanics it could become a proper release but I'll most likely leave it as is. Thanks for the compliments though, means a lot.

X-1 - A Game About a Robot Shutting Down by Billnotic 2022-04-04T16:55:28Z

@stephanttm Thanks! I tried really hard to make the game feel fluid, especially with the tweening of UI elements and the camera, and it's good to hear it payed off. Glad you liked the music, it was one of my favorite things to come out of this jam.

X-1 - A Game About a Robot Shutting Down by Billnotic 2022-04-04T20:36:40Z

@tomatoomelet Thanks! The little shake effect on X-1 really helps feel of flying a lot.

X-1 - A Game About a Robot Shutting Down by Billnotic 2022-04-05T00:43:54Z

@foxwater The camera choices were definitely necessary for people who got confused with screen transitions with the jetpack, and it also made exploration easier. I wanted to keep all options available, glad it ended up helping my game! Thanks for playing!

X-1 - A Game About a Robot Shutting Down by Billnotic 2022-04-05T00:46:19Z

@captaincarrot It likely still works you just need to hold down W through the transition. The transitions with the jetpack can get annoying though, which is why camera options are there. You can press 1 to adjust camera type and press 2 to switch from pausing on camera transition to not.

I definitely tried to make the ending screen feel sad, glad the blackout and rain sounds were effective at their job.

X-1 - A Game About a Robot Shutting Down by Billnotic 2022-04-05T12:19:05Z

@milq What do you mean by the music being a bit regular?

X-1 - A Game About a Robot Shutting Down by Billnotic 2022-04-05T22:04:26Z

@limered I was originally going to have it switch the camera type once you get past the beginning but I ran out of time. As for the map, it was originally intended to be like 4 times as big (if you open the project's source code you'll see the way bigger layout size), but again, not nearly enough time thanks to compo being so short. As for how I was able to get what I did have as fast as I did, the answer is the Tiled map editor. Didn't have enough time to make automapping work but their terrain editor did the job well enough although it was pretty finicky, especially when I added grass.

Thanks for the kind words, glad you had fun with my game.

X-1 - A Game About a Robot Shutting Down by Billnotic 2022-04-05T22:05:58Z

@n-o-games I appreciate it! I always try to keep tutorials as simple and unintrusive as possible without leaving players confused. Good to hear it worked .

X-1 - A Game About a Robot Shutting Down by Billnotic 2022-04-05T22:06:21Z

@yusovv There is no double-jump mechanic? Are you referring to the jetpack?

X-1 - A Game About a Robot Shutting Down by Billnotic 2022-04-05T22:07:52Z

@ollie-d Thank you! Using the jetpack also eats away at your energy, so there is another element to the gameplay to consider. Glad it stayed fun for you.

X-1 - A Game About a Robot Shutting Down by Billnotic 2022-04-06T12:22:38Z

@bloodbane Originally there was going to be wirrs to connect the machines with the platforms, but as with most jam games, certain QOL features weren't added because I ran out of time.

Glad you enjoyed the map! It was pretty fun to make.

Thanks for playing.

X-1 - A Game About a Robot Shutting Down by Billnotic 2022-04-06T18:24:44Z

@rolly No, it wasn’t explained. Like with the camera controls it was thrown in last minute but it wasn’t included as part of the tutorial text because I guess I didn’t realize how unclear it was. Glad you still had fun though!

X-1 - A Game About a Robot Shutting Down by Billnotic 2022-04-06T18:26:51Z

@cogcomp Thank you! I spent a good bit of time on game feel in general like with coyote time and movement effects, and it’s good to hear it payed off. Forgot to add jump buffering completely, but the game controlled tight enough already so I didn’t see it as too much of a problem. Thanks for playing!

X-1 - A Game About a Robot Shutting Down by Billnotic 2022-04-14T21:17:23Z

@jackaljk Thank you!

@clemall Appreciate the kind words, I spent a good bit of time making sure the game felt tight to play, but unfortunately I wasn't able to implement every QOL aspect to the controls that I wanted.

X-1 - A Game About a Robot Shutting Down by Billnotic 2022-04-14T21:19:34Z

@lone-wolf You didn't miss a button, I made the death screen with very little time remaining and didn't have enough left to add it. If I used the submission time to add new features I might have been able to include a replay button but I was tired and decided not to.

Glad you enjoyed the music so much, it's easily my favorite thing to come out of this project.

X-1 - A Game About a Robot Shutting Down by Billnotic 2022-04-17T17:46:57Z

@bqq Yeah, it was difficult to visualize the segments when creating the map so it ended up feeling disjointed. I had to provide an alternate option, which led to the different camera types.

Sorry for not providing arrow keys as an option, it would have been so easy to add but I just never thought about it.

Glad you like the music and mood, the rain and lowpass filter at low health really do wonders.

Thanks for playing!

Armed & REDy by SlimmerBurger 2022-04-04T05:00:37Z

Very weird game, I like the concept and the overall game feel was nice. However, sometimes attacks would hurt me even though they missed, this especially happened quite often with the energy ball attack. Also, this doesn't really fit the theme all that well in my opinion, and the audio felt bland. I liked the artstyle though and the waving arm at the menu screen was pretty cool .

I don't know how to code by ubershmekel 2022-04-04T06:37:55Z

I got up to week 10. The SFX for each card fit well and the music definitely fit the casual gameplay. Good entry!

All Charged Up! by Izokia 2022-04-05T03:18:30Z

Had a good time with this fun little racing game. The lap timer seemed to be stuck on lap 1, but other than that the game worked as intended. Good submission!

STAY by etrealjunior 2022-04-04T21:40:33Z

This game was quite fun, mostly polished save for some minor jitter and jank on the last level but very good given the time it was made. Gameplay was great, ideas didn't overstay their welcome and it wasn't as difficult as some others have said. Personally I found the game fairly easy, however I also didn't run at enemies as it feels like their attacks are too difficult to avoid that way. Instead I stayed back and let them run into me . Good entry!

Chess? by dreamscale 2022-04-04T06:54:27Z

Odd way of playing chess, but a cool way to twist it to fit the theme. The board gets crowded quickly, but it seems like that isn't really a problem given how if you kill your own piece you have so much material you can just play another one. Maybe limiting the player's options more and making specially designed levels would have lended more depth to the gameplay, as I feel this could easily be adapted into an interesting puzzle game.

Good entry!

Super Mowser Bros by Guilloteam 2022-04-05T02:23:00Z

This game is incredibly innovative and a cool and unique take on the theme. It's fun, but there are a few issues that I have caused by bugs. The most important of which is that destroyed farms still provide income. This means that resource management never becomes a problem, and gameplay eventually becomes just spamming fully garrisoned upgraded castles everywhere.

Aside from the accidental downwards difficulty curve, there are a few UI bugs: - Some nodes can't be selected unless players are zoomed in on another node because the arrow keys block them. - Some of the hills in the background draw over UI elements and make building more difficult. - The final garrison slot can't be filled while a castle is being upgraded - When at certain triple-digit-or-more numbers for the not-goombas, the text bugs out and goes down a line.

These bugs are minor overall though, and don't really impact the gameplay that much, just thought it'd be worth mentioning.

I really like the Bario and Mowser designs, and the overall hand-crafted look of the game is really pretty. The music was good and fitting, albeit quite repetitive, and the UI was overall fairly clean and easy to understand.

Gameplay is fun until resources stop becoming a problem, visuals are great, there's a lot to praise this game about.

Great entry!

Last Person in Chernobyl Simulator VR by Legolula 2022-04-04T22:38:04Z

Neat little VR game, glad I actually had a headset to try it out. It was fun running around throwing uranium into the box and refining. I like the responsiveness of the buttons too, good entry! Shame not very many people will end up playing given how inaccessible VR is.

RIG WRECKENING by WhyNot 2022-04-04T22:28:17Z

I love the art style and overall presentation, and running around fixing turrets in a crumbling oil rig was surprisingly interesting. The helicopter camera was sick, and the jumping mechanics were neat. I was able to jump and double jump while on walls, meaning I could essentially infinite climb to get to cool places which turned out to be really fun. Biggest complaint is the floatiness of the controls. The movement doesn't feel snappy, everything felt like an ice level in a Mario game. Even the camera wasn't snappy. I like how you let players change the sensitivity, but the mouse floatiness doesn't change at all.

Overall I had a lot of fun despite some minor stuff that took getting used to. Good game!

Cold and Alone by David York 2022-04-04T05:42:07Z

"This is not Alaska, there are no bears."

Klaxxon-9 was a very fun planet to explore, I had every upgrade when I decided to stop.

Very good entry! I loved the humorous quips after each night ended, the exploration progression was fun.

I ended up getting like 40 scrap right after I got the best engine upgrade for the rover and it felt really good getting all my resources back! Going after the crystals and finding scrap hotspots (like that one area in the quicksand at the bottom right) was fun and engaging.

While simple, it kept me entertained for quite some time, and I really liked making a mental map of the environment when I set out each morning.

Only complaints I have is the controls felt weird at first (QWEASD is an odd control scheme), and the lack of animation or audio. Tilting the rover when the player goes in other directions, or adding an engine sound effect would have really helped the game feel more alive.

Overall I loved it, great work!

Cloud Surrounded Fate by Noh 2022-04-05T00:13:49Z

I really liked the snappy feel and controls. Unfortunately, because the platform doesn't push you along as it moves, it's way too easy to fall off. For some reason its easy to get back on if you hold the up key when semi-close to the platform which snaps you back but looks odd.

Other than that the game feel is nice. What is your personal high score?

Happy Piggy Farm by TomatoOmelet 2022-04-04T06:33:49Z

The music was nice, wish it had more variation though because it gets annoying after a while. The core game is slow and there isn't much depth to the gameplay, but I really liked the cute pigs.

SferePhall by auxiliarymoose 2022-04-04T06:08:48Z

Didn't quite understand what to do at first, but I retried several times and eventually got it. Fun concept, although in practice it felt a little underwhelming since you only have 10 bucks to last an entire slow-moving marble maze.

I quite liked the music, if the game was a little faster and more hectic, it would fit perfectly.

Good entry!

Death of an Intern by Papaya 2022-04-04T06:15:26Z

I liked the concept, but the gameplay was too repetitive in my opinion. I also can't see how exactly this fits the theme.

The cat was cute though.

RESET by Kazuren 2022-04-04T22:09:58Z

Liked the story, but the gameplay left much to be desired. The graphics were very odd, and the extremely smooth walking and shooting animations felt off when compared to the rigid jump animation, and the human and "human" characters being more 3d than the environment felt odd.

One thing I LOVE about this that jam games NEVER seem to do is that your game actually has proper text wrapping with its typewriter effect. THANK YOU it's a huge pet peeve of mine.

Good game!

Over Horde by StephanTTM 2022-04-04T06:10:07Z

You only have the source code linked. Do you want us to compile the game ourselves?

Over Horde by StephanTTM 2022-04-04T06:38:56Z

@stephanttm I think you might be able to do that even after submission ends so long as you don't edit your code but I don't know for sure.
