I managed to get up to week 13 too! Very interesting (and slightly depressing) game lol. It would be nice to know exactly how much of each resource you have left. Also, very cool to see this sort of card game! It felt pretty decently balanced overall. I still can't get over the audio lol. That much voice acting, wowee! Great work!

maxr00 2022-04-04 06:31

Got to week 12! Love the concept, and the different sound for each card was very charming, great job!

billnotic 2022-04-04 06:37

I got up to week 10. The SFX for each card fit well and the music definitely fit the casual gameplay. Good entry!

tygrak 2022-04-04 06:38

The voice over is so so good :)! I also like the background music. I have somehow made it to week 14, so I guess I am on top of the leaderboard for now until someone smarter than me takes the top :D. Good job making a nice game :)!

I love this game! The sounds are sooo cute!

m11 2022-04-04 16:51

Really nice SFX!

dindotjs 2022-04-04 17:36

I got to week 11. My manager loved me after all of the smart things I said at meetings and the times I took him to the gun range. My favourite part about the game is the phrase "You ran out of mental health". The sound effects were very cute. The game is pretty original, and I was surprised that I found it really fun, since I'm not really a big fan of card games. I really like how you have to manage each of the meters, and you could probably even use this mechanic along side something else to make a steam release!

xcarl 2022-04-04 18:06

Good approach to the theme. I think adding a number of how much of the resource you have will help when deciding which card use. I like that every card has it own SFX. Very good game!

crishnate 2022-04-06 09:01

Good concept, the title is defenetly brought my attention, but I thought about little bit different game that I got. Overall game is nice, SFX for each card espesially brilliant. Playing with only numbers is good, but it become really repetetive over time. If you will continue on this project I can suggest you to add buffs or debuffs, so you can approach the gameplay a bit more thoughtful

Just interesting: I know that card balanced against the player for the theme reasons, but if not the JAM would you still do it that what?

zah 2022-04-07 07:26

This is really clever! Super well done. Definitely felt the inevitable collapse of my mental health here. Great work (even if the boss man doesn't think so)!

rowlna 2022-04-07 07:43

Very enjoyable! I was hoping the strategy to brownnose the boss would help in the end but the luck with the cards kinda got to me. I made it to 9 weeks! I also liked the music if I wanted to give some kind of feedback, satisfying clicks or swipes when moving the cards!(but yknow with a balance of not annoying)

oadt 2022-04-07 08:12

Got to week 15! Love the comments when you drag a card (especially by the gun range card) I think I got way to many babies in one run

One thing you could add is that you display the current value of each resource also as number somewhere. I wasn't able to play some cards because I was often unsure whether I have enouth money or not.

Maybe the game needs some more additional balancing (friend sentiment seems to be a pretty weak resource) but it is still a fun game, great work!

sdelay 2022-04-07 08:56

week 13. the concept and the story are so fun!

daniel-username 2022-04-07 21:52

Week 11! Funny idea. I think I've worked with some of these people...

bentglasstube 2022-04-08 16:34

Made it to week 12. As a software engineer who recently had a kid and returned to work the day after this LD ended, this game was a little too real :) Luckily I haven't been fired yet

blockerz 2022-04-08 16:37

I enjoyed this entry! The story/mood is good. The audio is well done. The humor is there.

Card game could have some more depth than adding and subtracting resources maybe but not saying I could design a better one. :) I think it worked for the timeframe. Each card had a fun concept that aligned to the resources. Overall I think is was well done.

Great job making a game in 48 hours!

ikelucas 2022-04-08 21:15

Basically a hidden gem, this game is one of my favourite entries of the jam! Every element is complementary with each other, and together they form a truly great experience. Of course there are things to polish here and there, but it's baffling that you made in three days a game that reminds me of Reigns (and rivals with it) with the number administration, unpredictable outcome and quick playtime. The sound effects are a beast of its own, I laughed at every new card I found. Incredible job!

caudatecoder 2022-04-09 07:01

As a software engineer I'm biased but this game is hilarious! Great work on resources and cards, lots of humor there. The sound effects got me too!

I made it to week 17! Guess my life taught me a bit about pretending to be a software engineer, haha. _spoiler:_ The amount of babies you can have in the game is just inhuman

Really great job!

I was streaming and recording my playthrough of your game, here's a link in case you'd like to see it https://youtu.be/xAmitsB_F9k

Thank you folks. Your feedback is much appreciated. I've been constantly refreshing to get more.

@xcarl @auxiliarymoose - thank you. I didn't want to show the number on the bar because the game was already pretty explicit about the effect of each card, so I wanted to give it some mystery and suspense at least around the "do I have enough money" dilemma. Not sure if that's a net positive experience though. I think humans get more excited for poker than chess.

@maxr00 @billnotic @jyumonji @m11 thank you! I'm really happy y'all liked the sound effects. It was the absolute last minute thing I implemented and luckily I had some great talent in the house (kids were having a playdate).

@tygrak thank you, the new leader made it to week 17 :)

@dindotjs I hope that someday I make a game that shows enough promise to take it further than the game jam. That hasn't happened yet so 🤞

@crishnate - I was thinking of things that are inevitable or that feel inevitable, and came across this idea of impostor syndrome at work. Then I thought a card game with metrics could be a good way to build the experience. So the balancing of the cards was because of the JAM theme for sure. Now that we're after the jam, and after I played so many games in this jam that were balanced against the player, I think I would rather have a way for the player to win. Delaying the inevitable is just not fun enough without a glimmer of hope to break through.

@zah thank you.

@rowlna I would say the gameplay style is inspired by Slay the Spire. When you say "clicks or swipes" I'm guessing you mean the "end turn" button should click, and a card should woosh as it moves or gets picked up. I should've added those SFX, thanks for the pointer. This is the first card game I'd ever made.

@oadt - yes! I wish friends had a bigger role in this game. I also wish I could reward players for maxing out some metrics.

@daniel-username @sdelay thank you. It was a familiar story for me, so I'm glad you liked it.

@bentglasstube Congrats on the new kid! I hope it didn't cost too much mental health or money and that my choice of card balance didn't offend you. I'm not sharing this game at my workplace because of the potential implications.

@blockerz thank you! I wish I had time to make and balance wacky card effects. If the game does well in the jam, I might work more on it in the future.

@ikelucas - this is a compo entry so it was in 48 hours, with kids and other tasks I had to care for. So I'm extra happy to hear you're impressed this got made in time. Thank you. It definitely is influenced by Reigns, though I was trying really hard to channel Slay the Spire, it came out as really Reignsy. The kids are happy to hear you liked their voice acting too, thank you.

@caudatecoder - I subscribed. That's awesome. Thank you for the review and for posting the video. When I was working on the game it was very hard to know which jokes would land and how. Seeing how you were interacting with the game, and noticing the silly bits, was delightful. Thank you.

Haha really funny premise. I made it to week 11 but could have gone further – I didn't realize that blowing all my cash would end things for me. Oh well! As for improvements, obviously more art would have been nice, and I think the balance could have been improved. Sometimes I would get the same 2 cards over and over.

ruthiepee 2022-04-17 15:20

You got me to click on your game just based on the title alone. :P The concept is really unique, I'm seeing it as a neat crossover between a resource management game and a card game. The audio and voiceover are obviously a highlight, and the writing is really funny too. I thought the game felt really balanced, even if I only made it to week 10. Nice job!
