I had trouble figuring out the mechanics and controls at first but once I did I had fun with it. I couldn't manage to beat it. Every time I was close the "Lose" showed up for what seemed like no reason at all. Anyway, I love the background track and the art style. Really good job!
This is the best I've played so far. Great work. RIP.
The art was brilliant

The art is so cool! I especially liked the dithered sky!
Really cool graphical style. Interesting mechanics. I'd agree with the other comment tho that the LOSE screen is quite jarring, and unclear what exactly happened.
Long life for Keith's Flint. I like but i have some troubles trying to understand the mechanics.

Good game experience
\+ for Keith. I feel like I either missed something or it was too easy to get screwed by RNG
Looks fun and I love the Joker vibe but I have no clue what I'm doing and lost quite quickly :D Maybe some tip in game.. Good luck either way ;)
Man I hate that fox. Keeps stealing my wood. lost when there was 4 hours left till sunset. Nice art and concept
Art is nice, but it is unclear what is happening or what to do.
I pretty much agree with most of the other comments, the aesthetic of the game is really something but the win condition and the lose screen are kind of jank. Good job!
The art and music are great. The fox was real pesky and I wish I could have been able to do something to scare him away. It's fast paced, which I like. A minor nuisance I had was that I had to line up just perfect to the side of a tree to hit it. But this game looks, sounds, and feels like a game. Good job!
Wooo! I liked the game, although at some points it seemed impossible to win, it was fun. It's remarkable how the fox is only coming from one direction, so it is somewhat predictable to know when the fox is coming, maybe making it come from both sides would be a nice touch. Overall a great game, I had a lot of fun playing it, liked the music specially.
Really like the art and sounds! Took me a few goes to realise what i had to do so maybe some in game instructions would be good for the future but it was fun to play through, Nice job! :D RIP Keith :fire:

You bloody legend! RIP Keith Flint! Audio and graphics were top notch, tough but I liked that. I liked the controls on Keith too, made the game fun. Gameplay a bit too simple for my taste though, a little more variety would improve the game tenfold. Thanks for making such a great tribute to one of the best!

Okay, what a trip! I think the game ran too fast on my 144hz setup. It was like a roller coaster :D The mechanics were simple and self explainatory even though I didn't really see if the animals did something to me or not. I just went from tree to tree and chopped them down until "WIN" greeted me in the morning. So I guess I was doing alright :) The art looked good and the soundtrack and sfx were awesome. A very good compo! Kudos
The art in this game is just "Wow"
That was great, fantastic pixel art!

I'm not a Prodigy fan, but seeing the cover instantly made me curious about the game. Great pixel graphics and catchy music followed next.
I liked the concept, too, it was quite straightforward but it works well. It took me a while of trial and error to figure out exactly what I needed to do and how, but after that the loop is clear.
The "lose" detection also seemed to trigger a bit too early. I got the "Lose" screen while I could still see the fire had some fuel left.
In any case, cool job! :D
The Fox is a**hole! And it's fun :)
Love the art and Keith Flint. The gameplay was very basic. The foxes felt a bit strange since I don't think they were interactable/preventable. The UI also needs some work. For example, I reached a game over state even before the bar reached 0.
Thanks to everyone who's taken the time to give it a whirl.

I've fixed ( so I hope ) most of the jank - so now the counter, the lose screen, the fox and the general game mechanics work properly. I should have done a JAM instead of a Compo, as most of the broken stuff was panicing in the submission hour. :scream:
Music is great.

Nice game. I had a similar concept with a little tribute to another artist too on my game. But your game is much better. It was tricky to unserstand at first, but once you find the controls, it's lots of fun. Cheers

F* the fox! :)
Oh yes, this was awesome! Straight out of an arcade cabinet somewhere, the music is awesome, the graphics are great, and the fast paced action worked perfectly. The fox is a worthy opponent! Great job!

Great look and awesome music/sounds. RIP Keith. I played both the Compo and the post-Dare version. The post-dare version definitely polishes up some of the things that I had issues with, but the fox was even more annoying to deal with. I agree that there should be some way to deal with it instead of just letting it take the wood. Overall, great work. Nice job!
@yodog - you can jump on the fox and he'll drop the stick, but you just gotta be ultra fast!
Cool and original art style! I think this makes for a good arcade game but for me it was too difficult :(
Anyhow, congratulations on a solid entry! Well done!
fun concept, controls took a bit of getting used, the automatic chopping that relies on being right next to the tree but not behind it threw me a bit. I've never seen so much pixel art dithering in one place, interesting effect. Enjoyed the music and the use of evil foxes :)

looks and sounds dope which kept me playing for quite a while despite the gameplay not having too much depth
I love the graphics, and audio! The game play was very well polished. The player character movement felt AWESOME for me because I LOVE games where the player character can jump very high compared to the player character size. game, great job, and keep making games!

Really loved the mood, graphics and sound. Controls were smooth and responsive but overall it felt really easy. Maybe I am missing something? Still, amazing job!

Reminds me of a some kind of Prodigy license game for NES :D This is how it must have been for Keith Flint back in the 90's. Stuck in the dark forest with trees and fox. Nice job with audiovisual side of things.
Note1: I played version without post jam tweaks Note2: I don't know who Keith Flint is
Pros: - Pretty moody sounds and graphics, that also look and sound nice - Clearly defined end goals and easy to understand gameplay without tutorial - Seems to follow a certain theme of a singer. Unfortunately I don't know him, but bonus points for that anyway - Short gameplay, which is pretty good for the jam when there are quite a lot of games
Cons: - Above average amount of bugs
Overall it's a nice clean game. It didn't go too crazy with features or inovations, but it did fit culture references, solid gameplay, nice graphics/music, cute fox enemy and pretty much all you need for basic gaming experience. Gameplay innovation wise I don't think this game cloned anyone, but this jam quite a lot of games did use "go get item and then throw it in the fire, so that it keeps burning" core mechanic. Otherwise innovation wise this game did nicely on the mood part as I never saw anyone try to incorporate culture and also it had that nice night horrorish mood.

I played the post jam version first, all while humming "firestarter" and having a lot of fun!
Really liked the pacing and the humor.
Overall it's a really solid entry, ticking all the boxes!

The graphics are great, the audio fits really well, that darn fox is really annoying. Great job!
wow, the game is very entertaining, i hate fox haha.
Art and music are very good.
Nice job
great game! love the art

Nice game, The difficulty of the game would be a little more balance if the fox's direction is more random. To win you just go cut the trees on the Right side and it becomes easy. Overall great game!

Okay I did not know this creepy guy from the Prodogy and though wtf?! is that! But makes sense if you know him I guess. He looks like him, and its a nice memory after his dead last year. The new version is not working for me! You just see the light shader and UI but not the game world. The old version works though. I did several times and I guess my fire was still on. I assume the Fox took to many wood? I like your graphic style and think its a nice and well polished game, especially for the compo! I especially like your particle effects or shaders or what they are. I figured after playing, that I should have started the game via my phone, as the controlls bugged me during my run, but made perfectly sense on mobile -.- (Maybe you want to write it in the description?) It has a nice acardy feel to it and a good speed, I also like the automation for tree cutting and feeding the wood.
This was fun. Great graphics and definitely a "I'll just have one more go" game. :)
The audio and intense colors make for some great early arcade vibes!
Big pixels, bright colors, small characters: good graphics! The game is easy and fast to play. I was surprised not to hear the original "Fire Starter" music in your game, even if the audio is good. Well done!

Well done! The graphics and audio is very nice. The game is pretty fun and fits in with the theme really well. The only issue I found is that at the edge of the map there is a floating tree.
Loved the litte particules and trails of the torch

The updated version definitely plays a lot better and is a lot lot easier to know what's going on.

Big fan of the very easy and smooth experience through the abstinence of ultimately unnecessary input (i.e. why would you click the tree? There's no difficulty nor challenge in it).
Also - that smiling face is hauntingly marketable :D
@artemftw - yeah, that's cos I re-sed the ground as a wall at the edges, and the trees are spawned procedurally from it, hence the floaty boi. It , along with a few other bugs are fixed in the post-dare version.
@bloham - It might be the assets or something didn't load completely in your browser? firefox/chrome do a hard refersh CTRL+SHIFT+F5 and try again. The newer one isn't using any different method for shaders etc.

look realy good and jucie ! good litle game and polished
Pretty cool graphics and pleasant soundscape!
The gameplay didn't feel very engaging. Because both kicking trees and throwing wood was done for me, it felt more like a "running back and forth simulator" And as such it was completely fine - I didn't run into any bugs or trouble. I wish I could kick the theiving deer though...
@fabula-rasa - nice handle haha , you can jump on the foxes head and he'll drop the stick!

Great tribute to Keith. The base version would need a tutorial but I can see it was fixed in the update. Overall, damn fine graphics and music

Cool little game. The music was kinda repetitive though... I was playing inside my head Fuel My Fire from The Fat of The Land :)

Great job :fire:
After playing it a few times and winning, the mechanics are still a mystery to me! What does the fox do? Where exactly do you need to place yourself to hit a tree? Is the hit efficiency random?
I did not need to know everything to enjoy it though. The art is great, the music is nice, visual and audio feedback are there, and what I liked the most : the win and lose condition are very clear.
Thanks for the game!
