LD30 — Connected Worlds

Systeme by Terrabyte 2014-09-05T20:40:00

Nice game - really sets up the explorational mood :)

BTW, worked perfectly on MacOS X, despite the fact, that I have previous version of LOVE (0.9)

Hello, Alien! by klianc09 2014-09-02T19:30:00

Well Done. Fun to play and so many levels shipped! Music is great. And I was really surprised and emotional when mistakenly wiped out the entire planet's population while turning the sattelites left and right :)

BTW, works nice on linux - kudos for using java ;)

TransmissionForce by Binary Gambit 2014-09-02T19:59:00

Fun and addictive game! Really challenging - keeps you in the zone :)
I LOVE minimalistic graphics and great music, that sets the mood. The game probably plays better on touchpads than desktops.

BTW, was really surprised to see it written with LOVE - I happend to have it installed on my linux box and played with it a little bit. Great framework!

Void Space by HuvaaKoodia 2014-09-03T21:51:00

very good looking and meditative visuals...

I have troubles with zooming in and out on macosx, though. And on linux I can't even run it, since there is no unity :(

Spacewatch by SleepyStudios 2014-09-05T11:35:00

polished and really challenging game. The music and SFX are really setting the interplanetary mood.

+1 for portability, so I can play in on linux ;)

Transmission by ljdp 2014-09-05T21:59:00

fun to play - simple and intuitive mechanics, good feedback - it's easy to understand what is going on... Nice visual style and good production quality.

Excellent game!

TERA - World's Intelligence by NicePenguins 2014-09-03T22:23:00

the music and visuals are really set the mood... I'm like back in 80s ))) Good job!

BTW, the download link says it runs on Linux - is there any way to run Unity Web Player on Linux?

Close Your Eyes by nonetheless 2014-09-10T22:06:00

really nice and innovative game... well designed and polished.

good job!

Glue The World by shimage 2014-09-02T19:43:00

Superb! It is the most innovative gameplay from the pack I've played so far - and good correlation with the theme :)

Controls are easy and intuitive and I got the idea what is supposed to be done really quickly.

Jon's Adventure by SchiffFlieger 2014-08-29T12:41:00

Great game! Really enjoyed it... It was hard to pass the first level though... I had to back to the help section couple of times before I groked the point of collecting rocks. And also spent some time to manage the controls - it would be nice to have in-game suggestions on why I can't move into the swamp and what can I do about it etc...

Carrier Wave by invader 2014-08-29T22:10:00

Thanks for the feedback - I realise the controls are pretty weird - It was intended to be a party game, so several people can play from one keyboard.

I can implement the mouse control in the future versions, but for the meanwhile you actually can control other players - not only the Blue one. WASDER control the Red one, HBNMJK - the Green one and P098-=O[ for the Orange one.
There is also alternative layout for the Red one and you can use <> instead of Alt/Shift/Enter.

BTW. You can pick one Rectangle Carrier you want to play and other will be taken over by AI in 45 seconds. And you can take over any AI player any time you want - just start controlling the carrier by appropriate keys.

Carrier Wave by invader 2014-09-03T21:36:00

@Rialgar
Yep, I realise I missed that issue - the layout worked for me in linux and macos, but apparently there are problems with that - there are alternative layout, however, that allows you to play despite these shortcomings.

JQuery happened to be there by accident - it is just 300k of ballast, nothing more. I've used it one time - for document.ready - and could easily manage to do it in vanilla js.

The pace is definitely slow and it is a good idea to speedup it a little and provide time lapse feature for convenience - so nobody would have to hack it with debug console :)

Dependant by Abominas 2014-09-03T22:10:00

I like the pixelated effect on healing or throwing that missile thingy :)

The Fairy-Tale Tale by neosam 2014-08-29T12:56:00

Incredible game. Enjoyed the mechanics, cool graphics and really nice soundtrack.

P.S. and great it's java, so people on different platforms can enjoy it :)

Killbot's Last Adventure by udo 2014-09-05T20:30:00

wow! the production quality is superb! graphics are rendered unbelievably good and the music is really setting the mood... Also really cool font is used for dialogs.

Great game!

Power the Planets by FrozenCow 2014-09-03T22:03:00

innovative mechanics, good visuals, intuitive controls - it was nice to play.

P.S. on macos+safari it slows considerably when zoomed out

Inversion by tatelax 2014-09-06T11:55:00

very solid game and good looking to boot. Pretty hard though...

LD36 — Ancient Technology

Second Chance by caryoscelus 2016-09-17T22:30:00

Probably the most elaborate story I've seen from this LD.

I've broken the game during the very first turns by getting NaN values instead of gold etc...

Modus Catapultus by invader 2016-09-18T10:33:00

@TheMonsterFromTheDeep:
Thanks for the feedback. Valid points.

I've removed the restriction on fire-when-intersecting in the Post-Jam version. It happened to be quite annoying in the retrospective. The pace is also a big issue - in Post-jam version I've increased the rate of fire. The catapult speed should be increased as well.. Probably that would work for the player one. Other can be slow.

Phone Inventor by Xlip 2016-09-19T20:34:00

cool and innovative mechanics. Cable physics is really nicely done.

Overall - fun and polished game you have here :)

Portal to Darkness by InfiniteGames 2016-09-15T15:03:00

Great art and music. The style really fits the theme.

The turning mechanics is somewhat confusing and hard to get used to - especially once under attack.

EverDown by Ryusui 2016-09-15T11:37:00

wow, it was intense- the beam makes it urgent and it becomes progressively harder to dig deeper over time.
Walls on the way are somehow irritating, since you don't see them unless hit. Other than that - fun and polished game

Floppi's Relic Run by epb9000 2016-09-15T08:36:00

Nice polished game. I like the chosen style - hex field in vacuum and space music really add nice feelings. The main character is awesome!

Runs smoothly on MacOS X.

Ancient Akkadians by hitchh1k3r 2016-09-18T11:23:00

Amazingly polished game - everything fits well the theme and it is a quite decent City Defence game.

It would be nice to provide additional feedback on selected/applied actions. It is not particularly clear if the action is selected and where I can apply it. Once something selected, I click on a cell and nothing happens. And I'm wondering where I should click next.

Maybe some online hints/tutorial steps could make the learning curve smoother. However steep learning curve is a curse of many strategy games.

Cursed bricks of the Ancient by Lt.Emi 2016-09-15T11:23:00

nice puzzler.
The art is amazing! The style perfectly fits the theme - that is how ancient technology should look like!

Golemaze by LTPATS 2016-09-15T11:10:00

good looking and polished game.
Mechanics of controlling several entities looks really innovative. I'm sure, that you can get more unique levels out of it, given more than 72h.

Cryptoglyphics by Bogden 2016-09-17T16:40:00

Glyphs part is really amazing. It is something that definitely should be reused for a bigger project.

Alchimancer by vicious_br 2016-09-19T22:06:00

Nice looking game. I like Spectrum-like visuals.

I've managed to research the whole alchemy tech tree. The game gets a little bit repetitive near the end, but the overall experience is quite positive.

CRTs are Ancient, right? by CliffracerX 2016-09-15T13:01:00

On MacOS X it is too dark in the first room and terminals doesn't work - I just able to lock on it but nothing happens until I hit Esc.
On Linux 32bit I have error saying that libXcursor.so.1 is missing :(

Chadwik the Charismagnetic by SkullPixel 2016-09-15T11:53:00

Really fun to play. Polished art and unique game mechanic.

The most fun part is dead Chadwik moved by magnet on arena.

TrainStack by TheMonsterFromTheDeep 2016-09-15T08:49:00

nice style. Got stock on level 6 - it is hard to determine what cart and where to place it for each particular trap.

You probably missed some sleep() in the main game cycle, since it eats 100% cpu.

TrainStack by TheMonsterFromTheDeep 2016-09-17T16:57:00

@TheMonsterFromTheDeep:
Yes, that's probably it. It tries to draw as many frames as possible (and it probably can draw 100+). When instead you need just 50-60 for smooth animation.
There are 2 ways to do that:
- create a timer event to trigger each 15ms or so and try drawing there
- measure how much time takes each redraw (like System.currentTime... or even better System.nanoTime) and Thread.sleep for (15ms - last_draw_time) in the end before scheduling another redraw

Grab & Defend by fragileannihilator 2016-09-18T19:20:00

I love the steam catapult! The art is amazing and fits the theme perfectly.

It takes some time to get used to the control mechanics, but it feels great once you manage to press up to 3 buttons in combinations - that makes the movement swift and effective. The control itself is somehow resembles a hydraulic excavator.

Great game! And very well polished given the 72h timeframe!

Grab & Defend by fragileannihilator 2016-09-19T11:29:00

@fragileannihilator:
btw, you appear to be in Kiev area. What do you think of making next LD a live event in some anti-café/coworking space and bring additional people on board?

I know at least a few who showed interest in LD and we even talked about making it live - that can bring more focus and inspiration. And definitely more games!

Khufu: the Pyramid Builder by mikekreein 2016-09-18T11:27:00

nice sandbox. The mechanics of only-once box moving probably can be used in some actual gameplay.

Dino Lazer by Chaoslab 2016-09-15T13:37:00

It wasn't easy to run the game on MacOS X. The shell file contains windows-style LFCR which confuses MacOS and it can't recognise bin/sh as interpreter.

But the java run line didn't work for me either. To run the game I've used:

java -cp jinput.jar:. LD

The game itself is like Gradius with dinosaurs. It can be fun if added some variety in gameplay. And it requires some background story, since I can't imagine how dinosaurs and floppies can coexist.

I like the style - very distinct retro-feel of 80s and 90s shmups.

GameBoyz don't cry by neural 2016-09-19T10:54:00

wow, it is intense! And I feel really connected to the poor GameBoy hated by any other piece of ancient technology :)

We Are Here To Help by Frederika and Patrick 2016-09-18T10:59:00

visual novel that perfectly fits the theme.

Unique and funny - I really enjoyed the experience.

Soaring with the Ancients by xzippyzachx 2016-09-15T15:25:00

stunning visuals and music!

I like the overall feel of exploration once hovering over the landscape. Controls are little bit tricky, but you can used to it. It is easy to get lost completelly, hovering over endless gray ocean with no sense of direction. Some kind of compass would've been nice.

Also I've got those strange effects when everything got mirrored after dive into the ground - I was wandering if that effect has any special meaning to the game? :)

LD38 — A Small World

Marco Polo by Nathan 2017-05-08T17:12:26Z

Engaging adventure! Definitely 5/5 on mood! :)

Petty Puny Planet 38 by JorgeGameDev 2017-05-06T07:25:30Z

Nice! Like a little-little Civilization with a tech tree + little bit of Populous. With a good story and really cute art to boot. Great job, guys! :)

Pod2000 by nidup 2017-05-06T14:13:35Z

It is like I actually have been there on that planet! Great atmosphere and the game definitely lives up for the theme. Awesome UI. Overall is strong 5/5.

Microchip IO by ping78 2017-05-15T18:51:16Z

Fresh idea. I feel the editing part could work better in plain 2D - hardly you need a camera view to place components. On the other hand, 3D can create a really dramatic view on the schematics. It might work as editing with plain 2d and then moving to 3d panoramic view when testing.

The Morix Colony by Somnium 2017-05-08T16:21:40Z

Goddamn pirates! How can an honest man live like that? Seeing fellow workers being slaughtered or paying an unbelievable amount of ransom... Some additional military capabilities to defend would be great. Really engaging game. The plot resembles Dune.

Little Lands by Mr_Field 2017-05-08T11:49:14Z

Such a polished piece of art! Amazing style, great gameplay.

Planet Desumaton by SiegfriedCroes 2017-05-06T11:21:58Z

Asteroid grabbing and throwing mechanics is nice and really innovative. Great job!

Little Fortune Planet by Flaterectomy 2017-05-08T17:47:59Z

Amazing game that resembles Populous on a small planet. We really considered the creation of something similar in the beginning of the Jam - but instead of cards, we wanted to bombard the planet with asteroids and stuff. However, we considered that it is unrealistic to implement such idea in such a short timeframe. But you guys really made it!!!

Kudos! It's unbelievable job! Definitely 5/5 overall score.

Jar of Life by hunttis 2017-05-08T16:06:34Z

Nice and polished mini-game. Music didn't work on my Linux for some reason, so I just turn it from assets in a separate player. It really gives the game a nice touch!

Caturday is today by DemyHallar 2017-05-08T11:37:43Z

Good art. But it is challenging to understand what is your goal from the beginning.

Flerth by parahunter 2017-05-06T11:02:58Z

Wow, that's intense! Great art and music, fun gameplay.

Ultra-ninja VS falling zombies by gaspard 2017-05-08T16:48:51Z

It's quite a challenge to build and run on a regular Ubuntu. Packages needed to build:

sudo apt-get install libsfml-dev libglfw3 libglfw3-dev

Only after installing headers from those, I've been able to build and run.

Other than those build challenges, its a nice looking mini game.

PixelWorld by Dom Harris 2017-05-08T17:55:09Z

Nice retro-shooter.

Arindama by Daniel Moreno 2017-05-06T15:14:20Z

Cool game! Great by many merits and definitely 5/5 overall.

Bug Attack! by Gurbx 2017-05-08T11:19:18Z

Cool game! I generally love RTS and this one is like actual Warcraft I in a bug's world. Amazing scope for the Compo - it is actually a full-blown strategy game.

Flurpies by Gumboot 2017-05-06T15:35:36Z

well done! the art is touching and it is fun to observe the little creature.

Day by Day by Frolicks 2017-05-08T11:30:40Z

Really innovative mechanics with circling sun. But it is really hard to keep a little planet alive for a long time, so it would be nice to somehow 'upgrade' sun's orbit and evolve the planet system into a more consistent state and introduce some new mechanics.

Tiny Planet, Big Universe by Daveybb 2017-05-15T19:15:24Z

A decent side-scrolling shooter in the spirit of R-Type and other old arcades. Despite not offering much innovation in the gameplay (and hardly you can offer any in this genre) the game is nicely polished and playable.

It Shakes the World Apart by lectvs 2017-05-06T16:21:44Z

awesome art and overall style. Resembles me Earthbound and other SNES classics.

1964 World's Fair Engineer by Lone Spelunker 2017-05-08T16:31:59Z

That's a lot of polished content for the Compo. Mechanics is not easy to get, but I find it quite innovative.

Spermicorn by Fanu 2017-05-08T17:03:03Z

Wow! That was fun. Probably the funniest game I've played so far on LD38. Definitely 5/5 on humor and overall. And it's probably will be fun to catch players on camera during the last stage :)

Entropy by SleepyStudios 2017-05-10T15:52:33Z

How can I run a standalone server? Does it expect any parameters?

On linux i'm getting:

``` java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: 1 at net.sleepystudios.ld38.LD38.readFile(LD38.java:43) at net.sleepystudios.ld38.LD38.(LD38.java:25) at net.sleepystudios.ld38.LD38.main(LD38.java:155) ```
when I'm running java -jar ./entropy_server.jar
Entropy by SleepyStudios 2017-05-10T16:15:26Z
Managed to connect to the official server.
Kudos for the innovative approach in game mechanics! Quite interesting to observe how the world is shaping.
But I feel some resource limitations, resource points and powerups can improve the balance and introduce additional interactivity.
In overall, the game deserves recognition for innovative gameplay and technical achievements.
Stable Orbit by mrspeaker 2017-05-06T14:45:41Z
Talk Isn't Cheap by Riker Greenslade 2017-05-15T19:25:09Z
wow, the music deserves more than 5/5. And the resulting mood is just perfect! Nicely done! :man_dancing:
Jetpackman VS Bouncy World by r8berto 2017-05-06T16:14:12Z
Fun to play. Kudos for supporting Linux. Sometimes I get stuck under a tank barrel jumping up and down and not being able to move left/right. First, I thought I'm dead, but then some tanks drive under me and get crushed, so it looks like a stuck situation.
FREEDUMB! by Brothers Arcade 2017-05-08T10:46:57Z
Small Worlds by Damien Remars 2017-05-16T19:58:04Z
LD43 — Sacrifices must be made
It is the most engaging game in this jam. I was screaming each time the troll got me! :)
5/5 - Just Amazing!
JUNO by DeathBySnail 2019-05-04T20:46:56Z
Wow, cool retro arcade! Nice work with the camera zoom ins and outs.
Fehu by graebor 2019-05-10T18:10:23Z
Amazing look and very moody sound. Captivating game, well done!
shoot out your life by puppetmaster 2019-05-06T14:49:07Z
simple and fun - good job! :)
Timezone by joemanaco 2019-05-02T20:01:05Z
It is hard and unforgiving - real old-style arcade platformer ))) I love the spectrum-styled visuals and minimalistic approach in gameplay. The mechanics are introduced really smoothly, so it is easy to figure out how to get more life, how to shoot and the consequences of shooting.
Fun to play! It would be nice to have some kind of indication of how much of the level still left - it will lose some hardcore after that, but will add some motivation to pass through.
Spider Disaster by ytaha 2019-05-10T20:02:51Z
Wow, it a fun game. And the mechanics of buying and selling parts is quite innovative in this context ))) Good job!
I think the enemy spiders can be more aggressive in battle or cooperate and attack in groups against a strong enemy. That can make it more challenging.
HONC: The Building Blocks of Life by Jake White 2019-05-01T17:34:28Z
Just amaizing retro-space look and atmosphere! The scenes of flying between the planets of a star system reminded me of obscure old DOS space exploration game Noctis - unique and underappriciated gem (sure, it was not in 144p, but in standrad dos VGA 13h 320x200 - but the look is unbelievably similar!). Nice job!
Ollo's Life by Memel06 2019-05-04T20:19:42Z
It's just a little piece of retro-goodness :) Amazing achievement to complete an actual GB game (and not simply 'GB-styled' one). Good job!
[SHIP-WRE-KT] by webthingee 2019-05-02T18:49:09Z
kudos for the early MacOS/GEOS UI look and feel! There must be pretty advanced firmware in that little robot ;)
Deep Space Prospector by Roidz 2019-05-02T18:13:05Z
Explosions are spectacular - bright, sudden and emotional. The mood is matching well with deepness of space. Reminds me of Oids and Subspace :)
Nutty Twins by Supernapie 2019-05-02T18:59:05Z
5* for an innovative mechanic! :) The look and feel is also pretty good!
Lifeforms In Space by Eric Smith 2019-05-04T19:59:54Z
That's the first turned-based strategy I've encountered in this jam. Cool looking hexagonal space and classy approach to battles - these are definitelly noteworthy features of the game :)
Soul Exchange by Dennis Jeong 2019-05-10T18:29:06Z
Kudos for the spider mechanics - it's unusual, but work surpraisingly well!
Thorns were unexpected twist - usually you expect all the grass to be safe to step on... And here it is not )))) But the level design is very well done. Onboarding is smooth and you learn all little tricks to pass obstacles along the way. Great job!
Safe Travels by Mekyi 2019-05-04T21:38:41Z
It is fun to run over the ship and keep it going. I've got the impression, that the game would be more fun with the ship scaled down. Like the ship that takes a screen or two, so you can move faster from one point to another.
DEA-7H by b3agz 2019-05-06T15:27:47Z
Amazing game! It might be i'm a little bit bias, since I love dystopian cyberpunk theme. But the game definitelly beats the record in art, music and general mood among all the titles I've reviewed so far. Yesterday, I've actually run it in my browser for quite a white as a cyberpunk mood-setting screen-saver - only a calm music theme and little pixelated people going back and forth. It looks and sounds great! Excellent work!
TREASURE ROOM by jutjuan 2019-05-03T19:13:20Z
Very nice looking pixel art, catchy sfx and most of all - you've managed to create a lot of content for a jam. Some coins from the enemies definitely can dive more feedback to the player. And variety in AI behavior can make longer game sessions more fun to play (say, if some type of enemies can form a group and then attack in zoombie-crowd-rush)
Angry Planet by grllle 2019-05-01T17:00:27Z
It is hard to understand how to get rid of the colonists without reading the instructions. Some floating text with hint what to do after the first colonists landed on the planet would make the experience better. Once you understand how to shake off these nasty colonists, game becomes much more fun. Especially when they are falling down into outer space with screams ))) Nice effect! And very distinct and pleasant visual style.
Treasury Trouble by Jiink 2019-05-03T18:46:47Z
Good art style and interesting mechanic with thiefs that can't hurt you. Thiefs sometimes show smart moves when got recoiled by the hit from the treasure chest. And sometimes they act really stupid by walking in crowded formation that really easy to kill in couple of hits. Seems like introducing variety in their group behaviour can be a good way to modify overall game feel and difficulty.
D.R.I.E.D. by JasonD 2019-05-02T19:16:03Z
It is definitelly harsh and unforgiving - but that's the reality of wasteland, isn't it? )))
The pixel art it amazing - from palette to the tiny little details of each sprite and background scenery. The music is also matching the mood perfectly. Great game - my first 5* of this jam! :)
utsvulten by ditto 2019-05-06T15:43:43Z
wow! That's some weird stuff! I even don't understand why am I playing it and kinda enjoying it ))))
NecroBlood by Little Valhalla 2019-05-03T19:36:09Z
First enemy wave was the most scary one, since I figured out how to span when the first enemies were in front of me. That part was a little bit confusing, but after that the gameplay was pretty smooth. A button highlight or hint in the beginning would be very useful for onboarding. You can introduce the dead one-by-one by unlocking them after enemy waves. If you can spawn any of them, it brings more confusion to an unexperienced player.
Once you figured out how to spawn, the game is amazing! Graphics is lovely, there are a lot of content variety and it looks really polished. Good work!
LD45 — Start with nothing
Stop at Nothing by mao 2019-10-13T08:24:48Z
Looks nice. I agree with many, that reverse-levels mechanics is pretty confusing. It feels almost random when I'm pushing all the buttons to get at least some feedback )))
CosmiCraft 🌟 by Random-storykeeper 2019-10-12T11:46:05Z
Cool! Reminds me of Captain Forever, but with pixel art instead of vector graphics )))
New start at N.O.T.H.I.N.G. Ltd. by Shigor 2019-10-15T16:38:39Z
Kudos for pretty unique art style. And the genre is unusual - you don't see often JRPGs in jams. Good job!
FOREST NINJA WIZARD GHOST by johnnysix 2019-10-15T16:48:12Z
Good work on lights and overall dynamics - it feels really smooth and fast to zip through the trees. Cool game!
I feel the player needs some advices along the way - just to make sure he/she is not confused (in the beginning with low lighting I struggled to figure out is that a platformer of top-down 2d dangeon crawler - but then with more light and effects of gravity I finally understood that it is actually a platformer :)
Planet 7: No Data by Belonzik 2019-10-14T20:37:15Z
Nice little game! I love the art style. Good work with only 3 colors - it's even less than CGA had back in the day )))) And most of all it gives you that feeling of getting lost on unknown planet.
Bob the Brawler by itsdanidre 2019-10-14T18:49:32Z
Nice game! Fun to play and keeps you running away and hitting the bad guys )))
I find the trick of putting yourself in the end of the corridor at the map's edge really cheaty... Most of the bad guys are comming from the corridor entry and always get punched. And only a handful try to get in through the wall - and these are not really hard to fight off. And it looks like I can stand there pretty safe for a long time.
I guess you can experiment with control options to make them more intuitive. I found myself pushing Q when I didn't wanted to - options like that better move to the other part of the keyboard.
Having both left and right mouse clicks don't work well for Macs with touchpads only - you can introduce some alternatives to these options. Also, maybe having a mouse to point the hit direction could be avoided altogether - you can just hit in the direction of the last movement.
Business Quest by PronomicalArtist 2019-10-19T08:17:51Z
Cool game! First I was a little bit skeptical on that mix of biz sim and platformer, but the game was surprisingly fun and engaging. My 6 year old also played it and got to the end.
On the design side, I guess some more hints required to explain the player what the first job is. Maybe shake the news stand when you are passing by... The E hint is small and can be missed. Other jobs are easy to figure out once you got the idea how to make money. So the main focus should be on the first job.
ØJE by Gaming Night 2019-10-15T17:25:38Z
Beautiful art and sound! It is simple and fun to play.
On the design side, I guess the player can use a little more context for exploration... E.g. when I'm standing on the high platform on the left and deciding should I move forward (maybe I can't get back where I came from - how do I know?) or get back to the right and explore more (maybe I missed something there?). However, I'm struggling to understand how that can be done within that particular design (should it be some notion of progress on directions? Or some kind of map?)
The Persistent Thief by Darylsteak 2019-10-13T07:57:49Z
Wow! That is a lot of mechanics and content for a combo game! I love the style and the core idea. Sound is also moody and supports the overall experience. Good job!
ΛLIENGUIST by Infraxion 2019-10-15T15:33:03Z
Cool! Definitelly one of the best games I've played this jam!
Had a lot of fun speaking to those aliens... And then my kid noticed the game and spend like half an hour going from one alien to another making funny sounds )))
Pretty innovative. Reminds me of Captain Blood and their pictographic langauge - check it out, if you haven't seen it yet. There was also Tabula Rasa with their icons as a language.
Virus Jones by Bernardex 2019-10-15T16:25:36Z
That's a cute little game! The gameplay definitelly reminds of missile command. And kudos for polishing on the graphics side! It looks pretty )))
バクラウBloodless by Danilo Freire 2019-10-15T16:15:17Z
I enjoyed the game. The art style and music are all fitting well. The dashing is quite fun.
From the design perspective, I've found that action is not supported by enough feedback - when dashing, it is hard to say if I actually hit or not... Except for a dead body afterwards. The hit should provide more feedback I guess... maybe some physics, camera shakes or something to visually highlight the success of an action. Now it feels more like fighting the ghosts. And I understand, that can be a design decision - old 8-bit games didn't have a proper feedback after all :)
Spooky: The one who lost everything by Susumu Asaga 2019-10-15T17:04:22Z
Wow! It is the most amazing and nice looking game I've played this jam!
Posses mechanics is really innovative. I think you can get even more from it!
It is so polished, I'm finding hard to suggest any improvements ))) I guess, the control scheme can be more convenient. For the moment, J/K reminds the control on the old 8-bit machines like ZX Spectrum. Moving these to the left side of the keyboard probably would be better. Unless that is a particular design choice )))
Spooky: The one who lost everything by Susumu Asaga 2019-10-15T17:11:51Z
P.S. the web version on MacOS Mojave + Chrome sometimes loses WebGL context and showing the gray screen for some reason.
The Legend of Nüdacus by dummydojo 2019-10-22T06:43:18Z
Cool! It's the funniest game I've played for this jam )))) Nice polish and good job overall!
On the design side, it feels quite hard to play - at least on a mac with touchpad only Maybe with mouse it is easier. But it might benefit from a more simple control scheme - when you are hitting in the direction of last movement.
Oh, It's Nothing by Ein 2019-10-18T06:29:13Z
Cool! That word play is definitelly innovative))) I wonder how far you can go with gameplay just by using words and simple links between them... I guess you can get much more from that simple mechanics.
HOBO DAYS by FinnThePirate 2019-10-17T16:11:45Z
Life is cruel! And all those people are greedy... I've been dying all the time (((
Kudos for nice pixel art! ;)
You Broke the Game by OlegKlishin 2019-10-14T17:30:58Z
Wow! It is simply THE BEST platformer I've played on this LD and one of the most polished games overal. It is amazing to see such level of quality from 72h jam! Congrats!
The game is really hardcore, but keeps you playing, which is a good thing.
On the design side: * the "wall jumping/sliding" mechanics is not obvious one and better be addressed more explicidly in the tutorial level after perfectly introduced 'Space to jump'. Most of the hardcore platformer players wouldn't be confused, but still better be sure the player knows how to hanlde the next challenge - or you can lose the player on the first level when they will get confused how to get on top. * The poisonous grass is too green from my perspective. Maybe would be better to make it all in 'hot' colors to distinctly separate it from 'safe' areas.
LD46 — Keep it alive
Entropia by Kaisean Games 2020-04-29T09:56:26Z
Cool game! It takes time to figure out core mechanics, but once you know the meaning of each resource, everything starts to make sense.
Some additional in-game hints would be nice. When I was low on oxygen, I was jumping between planets trying to find a resource that would increase the oxygen level. I assumed, that since consumption of a resource reduce my hunger etc, I can find a resource to increase the oxigen levels. Instead, I was supposed to get back to my home planet. Which became obvious only after I died of suffocation :smile:
Keep The Beat Alive! by Willops 2020-04-23T08:42:28Z
Wow! It is simply the best game I've played so far in this jam. It is fun and engaging. Really simple core mechanics, but still you can build some interesting rhythm-based strategies on how to move and shoot. On some levels I've developed a basic beat of [step-step-shot-shot, step-step-shot-shot-shot].
BTW, first time I've played on Mac. So, except for a couple of random shots, I didn't figure out how to destroy the enemies and managed to pass the whole game in a non-violent mode without a single kill! Then I've moved to my Linux machine and get the crap out of these beat moving bastards! ))) Screen Shot 2020-04-23 at 11.24.44 AM.png Screen Shot 2020-04-23 at 11.32.10 AM.png
Birdie Burglars by DDRKirbyISQ 2020-05-08T16:52:57Z
Nice game. Visuals and sound are awesome.
Controls feel a little bit awkward... At least on touchpad. Is aiming really has to be 2-dimentional? You can experiment with allowing just 1 axis for it. That would simplify controls and make experience more dynamic and arcade-like.
Mothership by Marcionix 2020-04-29T08:24:23Z
Cool game! I like the concept and overall atmosphere of that broken mothership. Dead robots laying around are very nice touch to the overall picture of a catastrophe.
It can be developed into a bigger game. Just needs some tuning.
Collision boxes are little bit off - sometimes you need to make several approaches to be able to interact. Additional feedback would be nice - more sound and animation on interaction. Just to show that something is happening. Plus more hints would be really nice.
P.S. I myself have created a space station maintenance game, so had to struggle with the same issues - nobody understands how to play or what to push and what is happening in general. I've made a fix with tutorial, but it not solved the problem completely. So I'm still wondering how to teach the player to interact with all the systems and provide needed feedback.
Space Drone Guy by TechnoNugget 2020-04-26T21:02:23Z
Very engaging game! Newtonian physics makes it hard and unforgiving. Just like good old Asteroids, only here you have wider area to fly and enemies are smarter than dumb asteroids. Nice pixel-art and the overall polish. A very solid entry. And could be a foundation of a bigger game, since you can build a lot of features around those core mechanics.
It worked fine for me in embedded and fullscreen modes on itch. And I have only one complain about the fullscreen mode. The screen is pinned to the top and it would be much better to have it placed in the middle or maybe scale with preserved aspect rate/borders.
Woodpunk by elisee 2020-04-27T10:17:35Z
Amazing graphics and sound! You've managed to create a whole little world in 72h timespan. Definitelly one of the best looking games I've seen in this jam. Good job!
It is hard to complain about anything here - the game is nicely polished. I feel, it can easily be extended into a bigger game - all core mechanics are already implemented, so it is all about the efforts on content.
Machine and Nature by MoonAgent 2020-04-23T07:47:32Z
Unusual control scheme is something you need time to used to - I definitely agree with all the comments above. Maybe it makes sense to change the control from mouse movements to keyboard or just mouse keys without movement. And make a full swing by an arm on key hold. Or maybe, the longer you hold, the harder the arm swing.
Kudos for visual and sound design - they are awesome. Very moody and nice looking picture.
Tiny Fragments by Daniel Moreno 2020-04-27T10:44:50Z
Cool game! Definitelly top score in innovation among all games I've played so far this jam :smile:
Bonfire 🔥 by ColinBellino 2020-05-08T17:04:22Z
Nice little game. I love that pixel-art style.
I think tutorial should be more intrusive... At the moment the instructions are small text and on the side - kind'a hard to notice. You can make it bigger and blinking.. Or maybe place it in the middle of the screen just to make sure the player knows the basics.
Also, when you have right-mouse click involved, it makes sense to introduce an alternative with left click + alt/meta/ctrl. That way, players with touchpads are also will be able to play.
Keith's Flint & Steel by johnnysix 2020-05-11T16:07:14Z
Cool little game. The music was kinda repetitive though... I was playing inside my head Fuel My Fire from The Fat of The Land :)
Station Keeping by invader 2020-04-27T10:24:59Z
@Keppu thanks for the review. The game supports coop with up to 8 players at the same time (need x4 game pads + couple of keyboards attached though). I've playtested it with my kid - works much better than in solo mode. Like somebody is changing the broken chips while others are filling up docking ports for trade and resupplying fuel and stuff... It can get pretty intense when supplies are running low :smile:
Station Keeping by invader 2020-04-27T10:27:55Z
@sparsha-dhar thanks! I've never seen games from Kairosoft, so definitelly need to check them out to see what kind of mechanics work for them.
Station Keeping by invader 2020-04-29T17:56:22Z
@antti-haavikko Thank you so much for your deep gameplay analysis! I really appreciate your time and effort :cool:
I've struggled with that tutorial trying to lock out and check every step and every possible action. But looks like it still has a long way to go before it becomes clear and reliable :smile: Scaling down the station size for tutorial is a great idea for sure. Different station sizes is a great idea overall when you consider multiplayer layout - this station can become crowded with 4+ players.
As for the local co-op - the keyboard is just a backup option, since the main control supposed to be through x4 gamepads. But still, couple of players can join form the keyboard. And you can have multiple keyboards connected as well. That is something nobody considers for local co-op these days.
The "stuck in metal" problem is the result of my "quick and dirty" tile collision implementation. That is something to rework completely. Along with platform mechanics - your comments make me realize, that I have to introduce air friction to slow horizontal movement down. Currently the friction works only when moving on the ground.
Well, it is already a long to-do list. I hope I will make time to fix all outlined problems to make it more playable :smiley:
Flock for Feast by Antti Haavikko 2020-05-04T07:14:38Z
Amazing game! Very steep arcade-style difficulty curve. And maybe because of that, it is highly addictive. You get wiped out pretty fast and want to try again and again.
I agree with comments above on the camera. Sometimes, it can zoom in and cut out a significant part of tutorial text or a view on baddie just nearby. But it is really a minor issue. I feel, that the camera zoom makes the whole experience better. It feels more dynamic that way. Maybe, the camera should be a little bit smarter regarding baddies position. And you can disable the zoom until the end of tutorial.
I had another issue with the scene layout. Sometimes, the generated landscape is divided on several caves by huge rocks in the middle with small passages in-between. And that makes it very hard to navigate, since baddies have no problem of getting through and my flock should get around it and often gets stuck. Therefore, the landscape layout has a big influence on the final score. Not a big deal, but still - after a while, I was already aware that with that particular layout I could not get very far.
As an idea - you can try to make the landscape partly destructable by the birds. So after multiple hits, landscape elements will be destroyed, cleaning up the caves and making them easier to navigate.
In overall, you can try some improvements, but the game already looks complete the way it is.
It is the most polished game I've seen in this jam! Well balanced and with moody soundtrack... Very engaging and a joy to play. Superb job! Especially for a compo entry! :thumbsup:
For Ducks' Sake by GaryS 2020-04-23T09:56:48Z
Cool little shooter. Pleasant pixel alt. Definitelly scores high for humor :)
Tyson Lee: KEEP IT ALIVE EDITION by CPTN-B 2020-04-27T12:38:28Z
Cool logic/programming game. In the true spirit of The Robot Odyssey.
UI and feedback can be improved though... Unless it is a deliberate design choice to make it feel like it is running on Apple II :smile:
Rise of the Purple Slime by NateTheGreat 2020-04-27T11:16:13Z
I enjoyed that little game... I love the idea of "god-like" mechanics, where you are not controlling your subjects directly. Like Populous and Lemmings.
It is nice to see you've managed to simulate the whole planet. Very impressive!
Perish alive by Lyrcaxis 2020-05-11T20:04:59Z
Cool concept! Amazing visuals and audio. Good job!
I guess controls can be improved. Zoom sometimes behaves strange. Also, it makes sense to provide some alternative for the right-click - like alt/ctrl/meta+left click. So you can play on a machine with a touchpad.
Exo Keeper by amarillion 2020-04-26T22:31:41Z
I love the idea. Maybe because I always have been a fan of Sim Earth-like games.
I feel like some additional feedback would be nice to have. Just to have better understanding of the ecosystem and it needs. There are bunch of stats, but it is hard to parse it and to understand what exactly is going on and what are my actions supposed to be. So basically I need some information to base my next choice of creature.
Some species got wiped out pretty fast and I had no idea how can I help them :)
TOTALLY NORMAL GARDENING SIMULATOR by plufmot 2020-05-11T16:20:38Z
LOL... Cool concept. Had a good laugh :)
The game freezes on my machine each time I lose. There supposed to be hight score or something?
Pyromania by Finnhax 2020-04-27T11:59:31Z
Wow! It is intesne! Cool music speed effect. Making it reflect the game state is a relly nice idea. You don't have to spend time looking at HUD indicators.
Fire my guitar up by Alexey Kuzovkov 2020-04-27T11:24:01Z
Cool visuals and work with lights... Kudos for the mood!
Stoke It ! - V1.3 by WegPast 2020-04-27T10:54:13Z
Cool game! I love the style - that mix of Dune and steampunk create unusual aesthetics.
Tutorial on start really helps. The only complaint I have about it is that font is not easy to read. Maybe it makes sense to scale up the tutorial content to the whole screen. There is a lot of unused space left on my screen with tutorial occupying just a quarter in the middle.
Mammoth Expedition by Abdurrahman Khallouf 2020-04-23T23:11:17Z
Great game! I've enjoyed it a lot! You don't see much text-based games these days - people don't want to read. The chat-like approach is really appealing and delivers a good pacing of the story through dialog.
I hardly see anything you can complain about - all looks so nice and polished... And you can't complain about controls and feedback when all you have to do is to answer the questions in chat :smiley:
Space Ranger by LuCecyl 2020-04-23T22:24:03Z
It is a cool little game. Amazingly polished graphics!
The controls are little bit awkward. Maybe it can be improved by experimenting with different control schemes. Try to use keyboard, it can give the game more arcade-like feel.
Dungeon Ball by scott.redrup 2020-04-23T08:14:45Z
It is fun, once you realize how to play. Tutorial on start is nicely done, but noboy reads these days ))) Maybe just make a single ball with one guy to hit as a tutorial level?
Some additional feedback would be really helpful - hit animation or particles would make it much more fun to play. Even without additional assets, just make a sprite rotate or shake on hit for one second before disappearance. Now you can have real satisfaction on hit :)
Remember, Apollo by AdamCYounis 2020-05-04T08:41:55Z
Amazing pixel art! Usually, you don't expect such detail in a gameboy-like palette. Nice job! Especially for a compo entry!
Keep a Plant by KDgame 2020-05-11T16:33:34Z
For a moment I thought it is an idle game... But the stream of asteroids hitting the planet made me feel otherwise :) But I've died many times before I've figured it out.
Would be great to have more feedback on the protective leaf, to show that this thing is actually has some effect on an asteroid. It is not an easy guest - leaves are not the thing you think about to protect a planet from asteroids :)
A tale of Rebirthism by Pomo 2020-04-27T11:34:31Z
weird looking, but really fun game :smile:
It has that arcade feel, but switching can be a hassle. There could be ways to make it more intuitive. Or even turn it into a local multiplayer, when several people can play at the same time.
Earth 2.0 by AryanJumani 2020-04-26T20:29:32Z
Asteroids popping out of nowhere remind me of original Wing Commander games - unexpected and unforgiving... And it brings the feelings, that computer "cheats" instead of playing fairly - might be good to provide at least some way to see ahead :)
S.L.I.M.E.S. Division by Yoshify 2020-04-23T23:40:08Z
It is a super-cool game! Gameplay is really addictive and the game looks very polished. Missile mechanic feels great!
The only complaint I have is about the font in dialogs... It isn't very readable. I feel it can be improved in many ways by adjusting font family/size and text color/background.
Keep the great work! You are a wizard! :smiley:
Deadly Afterquest by Cybernetic 2020-04-23T09:17:33Z
I also experience some weird double-ghosts after death ))) The controls feels slow and unresponsive - need some optimization there.
But visuals are really cool - I like characters style and how elaborate the sprites and animations are.
Below are double ghosts flying in the air: Screen Shot 2020-04-23 at 12.16.42 PM.png
SeaTurtle Safety Squad by PrimalShadow 2020-04-23T23:15:39Z
The Lightwielder - Ludum Dare 46 by 1StepCloser 2020-04-23T23:49:44Z
Amazing pixel art and sound! That game is really something you could screenshot and put on a poster or a screen background :smile:
I had a little problem with selected control scheme though. When moving with WASD, ZXC are not very convenient. Plus, I hit C several times instead of X. Maybe it makes sense to move pause button away from the main controls.
Loading... by AlexAuragan 2020-05-03T19:22:40Z
Nice arcade. I love the visuals and sound effects.
It could be more engaging with variety of hazards.
The Last Hearth by Jorim 2020-04-26T21:26:04Z
Good looking art. Shotgun and chainsaw feel very nice too.
It would be nice to guide the player more in the beginning, since it takes some time to figure out what am I supposed to do. I was running around for quite a while trying to shoot somebody until I managed to cut a tree.
Maybe give the shotgun only before the moment first spiders are spawn?
All That Remains by JustCreative 2020-04-21T11:04:24Z
Nice. The moment, when you go outside the station and see broken pieces of Earth is just breathtaking... I like the pacing of the story - how the dialog is mixed with space station exploration. The physics of movement is kind of weird and it takes time to use to it. But isn't it supposed to be like that in the outer space? :)
BTW, I also have created a game about a space station. There is no story in mine so far, but you have a chance to survive there for several days by trading with inbound space ships for needed materials.
Daisy by MasterPose 2020-04-23T07:58:10Z
Cool concept - really liked the art and the story. And thanks for the little lesson in gaming history - I've never seen Sit 'n Survive. And it looks like a really nice but forgotten concept that hasn't been explored much.
Save the torch! by eduardogacn 2020-04-28T11:50:02Z
It is a very nice looking game! The torch throwing mechanic is cool and very easy to learn. So it works perfectly. Good job!
Save the City by RMHeuer 2020-05-11T16:13:38Z
FIrst Java-based game I've played this jam. Cool concept. After I've reached score 280+, the game started to flood me with unbelievable number of bombs - I lost instantly. An it feels kind of unfair...
Home Alone Party by Dedicave 2020-04-27T11:50:38Z
It is fun to play... I love the tunes - keep the party going.
I agree with comments above about sound notification for a door bell.
Also, I was taking to somebody near the table with food and drinks, and the person suddenly disappears :smiling_imp: Did I killed him? Should I expect the police coming to the party?
LD47 — Stuck in a loop
Planet Hopping by Hjalte 2020-10-09T16:33:27Z
Lovely game with nice vibes. I love both sound and visuals. And the way the gravity works is just amazing!
P.S. Initially, we with our team also planed to implement "jump planet" mechanics for our game, but with lack or time ended up with a simple "teleport" instead :)
Debugger by wdebowicz 2020-10-10T09:06:52Z
Cool game! I love the concept - very fresh and original. Good job!
It is hard to complain about something here :) It seems a little bit hard for my taste, but that's just a matter or personal taste and experience. Others can find it easy. You can tune several difficulty levels to cover that.
Also, the font in the menu seems to be too small, especially the one showing the controls. Maybe because I've played on Retina Mac, on an HD monitor it might look better. The font in the game looks just fine though.
Another tiny improvement - you can put additional sound effect on landing on the line. It should be very distinct form the jump and it will provide additional audio feedback. Plus another sfx when a line is gone underneath you and you start to fall down.
Block Runner 2049 by LandoSystems 2020-10-07T11:46:02Z
It is totally unexpected to see Tetris in cyberpunk setting :)
Nice music and visuals. Controls can be improved - sometimes they feel sluggish. Maybe some additional feedback is needed to make it feel just right as on old arcades and consoles.
two tapes by Aurel300 2020-10-07T19:30:38Z
Amazing game! Superb style and presentation. And a very unique approach to the loop theme. That retro-cassette deck is unbelievable! It's definitelly deserves more that 5* for Innovation :)
It is the first game in this jam I'm struggling to find any improvement suggestions. It delivers a very solid and polished experience... Good job! :)
Möbius by tigerfinch 2020-10-16T08:50:27Z
Nice concept. I'd join the comments above - better feedback and faster movements would make the experience better.
HamStuck by Tommy 2020-10-14T11:18:35Z
Nice graphics!
For some reason controls don't work for me - I've tried both to roll with a mouse and a keyboard with no success... The game just stuck with no feedback or movement whatsoever. Am I doing something wrong?
I've tried the web version on both macOS/Chrome and Linux/Chrome, and found the same problem on both.
At It Again by johnbrynte 2020-10-07T05:58:00Z
Coll little game. Pretty hard - I've made like 20 tries to figure out the first level :)
The controls can be improved I guess... Each time new turn starts I have to re-select the character. But while I have a single character to control, he can be preselected automatically, making the movement control smoother.
Bureaucracy by endlesspeak 2020-10-07T11:10:27Z
Ouroboros by Wendel Scardua 2020-10-14T20:00:23Z
Amazing game! It brings authentic NES challenge to it's fullest glory. And kudos for the original NES catridge! Completing the jam game in 6502 assembly is quite an achievement! :)
At first, I felt it is too easy, but the complexity increased, culminating in intense laste seconds which turned in actual minutes of tries and fails. Very engaging - you want to get that timer to 0. Good job!
As for improvements... I understand that it is NES with all the limitations, but maybe it is possible to add some kind of feedback on collision with bugs and items? At first, I considered only bugs to be dangerous and other items to be some kind of power ups, until I've figured what is what... (I know, it is in the description, but who reads it these days?). Maybe some kind of blinking or shake would be suffice to show the negative effect.
Numpad Looper by dikkop 2020-10-14T10:10:00Z
A rythm game! Cool!
For some strange reason, numpads don't work in browser version on my machine (Linux + Chrome). I keep pressing, but there is no feedback whatsoever :(
P.S. Space works though... So I can skip levels :)
Jump 'n Loop by invader 2020-10-08T07:51:55Z
@lakso Thanks for the review. Sorry for the small details, I forgot to mention in the description that you can actually use +/- to zoom in and out. My bad, especially considering that I don't have that great eyesight myself... Shold have kept that in mind :)
Jump 'n Loop by invader 2020-10-08T08:13:22Z
@walkingtall85 thanks for the bug report! I will fix that in a post-jam version :)
Jump 'n Loop by invader 2020-10-19T09:12:17Z
@wendel-scardua Thanks for the playthrough and bug reports :)
Yep, after the last level it supposed to show credits and get back to the main menu... So it is some kid of a bug :)
The Looper Encounter by Shaolin Dave 2020-10-07T11:32:32Z
Nice reinterpretation of Galaga and the likes :)
The looping mechanics is an interesting one. Although, sometimes it behaves strangely, since I'm capturing the ships that are outside the loop. Is it bounded by a rectangle or something? :)
Shooty Loops by AntaresValdemar 2020-10-08T08:58:51Z
Nice space shooter and a really good work with the theme :)
I guess enabling full-screen option might make the experience better, especially for a space shooter )))
Loopomotive by JPiolho 2020-10-06T19:15:35Z
Amazing game! It has a simple, but very catchy mechanic, that makes you try more and more after each fail :) Kudos for the graphics. Cool characters and consistent style.
P.S. We've discussed a looping train idea with our team, but eventually decided to skip it, since don't have an artist this time :)
The Cold Loop by RAFFE 2020-10-07T18:45:05Z
Interesting game! The visuals are hilarious and somewhat surreal. Voiceovers are also cool.
I guess collision boxes and interaction with environment can be improved for smoother gameplay.
Tranquil Grove by Juutis 2020-10-08T09:24:38Z
Nice camping simulator :)
Waking up the next loop at the same location was frustrating at first... It feels like you don't make any progress at all. And only with upgraded skills you start to feel any kind of progress. It might make sense to include the ability to bring the tent with you :)
Grave Juice by Firebelley 2020-10-09T16:14:55Z
Cool! Amazing game with well-polished gameplay. I love the sound and visuals. It is possibly the most finished game I've seen in this jam.
I'm really struggling to find anything that can be improved. The gameplay is smooth and solid, so I guess that base can easily be turned into a full-featured game.
Good job!
MonkeyVM by abvadabra 2020-10-09T15:44:43Z
Nice puzzle game. And I like your creative take on the theme. Good job!
As for the improvements, I feel the UI can be improved a bit. Drag and drop worked weird for me - sometimes the cursor ends up way out of the game area, but the text is hardly moved. It is like drag&drop just skips 80% of mouse move events (I'm running a web version on Chrome/macOS). Drop also lacks consistency - sometimes it works fine and sometimes it just rejects for no obvious reason - I feel like I've dropped in the code area and I still has memory slots available. Some additional feedback on the drop area would be nice and will remove that ambiguity (maybe highlight the text when the mouse is over the drop area just to show that the drop is allowed there).
Impact Juggling by TheWustache 2020-10-11T11:28:02Z
Cool! The concept is fresh and deserves for than 5* for innovation :)
Joining that with the scoreboard server makes it more challenging and engaging... You want to try more to get better results... Good job!
As for improvements, I guess physics can be improved a little - I got a ball once stuck under my paddle vibrating, and it got back into the air once I moved aside. Strange, but not critical, since it doesn't happen too often.
Hyperloop by very dark lord 2020-10-08T08:49:19Z
Awesome game! It was really scary... Especially the gun recharging mechanics, when you flashlight goes down. That creates a perfect tension!
It is definitely the most polished game I've seen in this jam. Superb visuals and audio. Good job!
Permit A-39 by kirroyal 2020-10-07T10:57:15Z
Cool quest! Nice presentation and moody style.
I guess interaction can be improved. Stairs don't work each time for me... Interation with the clerk also wasn't smooth... Initially, I've struggled to initiate it.
WhileLoops by Ausstein 2020-10-08T09:10:49Z
Cool game! It takes some time to figure out what is going on, but once you get it, it goes smoothly.
I love the artstyle, especially Win3.11 - styled dialog boxes and most certainly the blue screen of death :) Nice job!
Worm's loop by Zero-Ichi 2020-10-07T11:56:20Z
Wow! This game is really disorienting... The world is strange and doesn't follow the logic :) On the other hand - a perfect setting for the puzzles :)
The Island by kuviman 2020-10-11T12:47:37Z
Cool! An actual multiplayer game! We've discussed a multiplayer option with our team multiple times, but never had the courage to make it happened during a jam. It is hard enough to implement and tune the gameplay alone, but add a network layer on top of it seems to be even harder.
Congrats! You actually made it! )))
As for improvements, I guess controls can be improved a bit. I've played it on MacBook with a touchpad, but it turned out to be impossible, since you need the right mouse button to interact. Maybe include an alternative for the right click as Alt/Ctrl/Meta + Left Click? It would make it possible to play on laptops with touchpads only.
HONK II by Tricky_Fat_Cat 2020-10-20T09:43:52Z
Cool shooter! Nice artstyle and hillarious characters :)
The shakes are too strong for my taste - with my skill level I was missing enemies all the time... But that could be just the matter of my personal experience - I imagine a skillful player would have no problems with that whatsoever :)
Don't Shoot Yourself by Maxwell3000 2020-10-08T09:38:06Z
Cool game.
I cheated the first boss by parking just on top of his head and shooting him while he was unable to shoot back. Some additional feedback for hits on your ship would be nice.
Looping by guimoliveira 2020-10-14T11:05:52Z
Nice game! Big respect for making it in pure JavaScript with no frameworks. I remember doing that once or twice during my old jams - that was a challenge! :)
Orbit by ZEN 2020-10-09T21:52:28Z
It's a cool little game. Nice take on orbital maneuvers! :)
Clone Arena by GrizzliusMaximus 2020-10-07T11:07:19Z
Cool game! Nice pixel art and really intensive gameplay.
The trick with previous you respawning is a treasure alone by itself. Definitelly deserves more than 5 stars for innovation :)
Good job!
Midnight Road by marcusnystrand 2020-10-06T21:32:55Z
Unique concept. I like the art style - really fits the game.
I feel the control scheme can be improved somehow. Say, automatically rotate or bend the road in the right direction when forming a turn. Currently I'm loosing much of precious time by pushing Space multiple times in order to fix the puzzle. Maybe by automating this you can get smoother gameplay.
Re-Slash by Croxel Studios 2020-10-09T21:38:43Z
Cool game! It is amazing how a simple core mechanic can be that engaging - you want to try it over and over again :)
Good job!
I feel the controls can be improved by providing more smoothness and feedback. The turns somehow feel a little detached from the character... But that could be my personal experience, since I've played with a touchpad, not a mouse.
Loopfield by MikoziQ 2020-10-11T15:01:13Z
Great game! Definitely one of the most innovative gameplays I've seen in this jam - that mechanic with controlling the shields is a nice twist from a traditional asteroid-like space shooters. Good job!
As for suggestions, I think allowing keyboard controls can bring more of the old-style arcade feel into it. The mouse just doesn't provide the same kind of feedback as mechanical keyboards most gamers have these days.
CONTRAST by Benedek Labancz 2020-10-24T20:24:34Z
Nice and innovative concept. Cool that minigames are matching the general concept. It is hard sometimes to keep up with both sides. Maybe more feedback is needed for the sword action - it feels a little clunky. It might even be better to make the swing faster, but include a little latency between the two actions. So you would have swoosh-swoosh - first on the left and then on the right. It can provide better feel of control over your characters.
[while'd] by Celuloide 2020-10-07T11:22:38Z
Cool and innovative idea! We've also discussed programming loops with our team, but haven't figured out a way to make them into a game :)
The game is hard to grok. I guess a tutorial or some hints at the beginning could improve the learning curve.
Stop Motion by Cafe Ducha Siesta 2020-10-08T08:09:23Z
It's amazing! Really fun visual style. The guy on the herilopter blade alone deserves 5 starts in humor. :)
I had to drive like 20 laps until I've figured out a way to catch up with the opponent :). The mechanics is simple, but quite catchy.Great job!
Looping by Maor 2020-10-11T14:38:23Z
Nice. I like that clear and minimalistic style.
I think collisions can be improved - sometimes camera seems to get behind a wall.
Space Drummer by Guilloteam 2020-10-26T16:20:45Z
Cool and innovative concept. Fun to play. It really brings new ideas into a space shooting genre. Good job!
I feel the feedback loop between the beat and the battle can be improved. Like the real influence of your beat design on the battle... You can experiment by adding new samples/weapons, more limits on samples or maybe even removing the ability of the player to move the ship (e.g. the movement will be determined by the beat itself). And then, given the short beat/battle cycle, you might improve the importance of the beat for the game outcome.
Looped by Leo Red 2020-10-13T22:54:12Z
Nice game! I love minimalistic visuals - it is very clean and great for arcade games. It is getting hard pretty steep IMHO, but if you want to deliver a quite arcade-style gameplay, that is how it supposed to be :)
Also, even the smallest dot seems to do a lot of damage to the circle. Maybe it should shrink it just by a little bit?
btw, I haven't seen any powerups - maybe you can include some to spice up the gameplay and deliver some variety for longer play sessions?
Star-Dogged Moon by Ree Rolph 2020-10-07T12:00:59Z
Nice game. Not often one sees a visual nover these days. It is the first one for me in this jam :)
iLoop - the 2D endless runner game of a robot stuck in a loop :) by melvinng 2020-10-16T09:00:32Z
Nice game! It is fun to play. Some variety in the gameplay would make it better, but it is fine for a jam game.
LD56 — Tiny Creatures
Jarred by Tommy 2024-10-13T18:10:45Z
Cool game! We also thought about ants during our brainstorm. But this idea is pretty fresh. It is like BattleBugs, only real-time with auto-battle. Good job!
Let's eat Grandma. by Yoav Kagan 2024-10-20T12:33:54Z
This is a great example of how commas can save lives! Really enjoyed this cute and fun game.
LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres
Rex McFury: Public Defender by minibobbo 2018-04-30T20:05:19Z
That was hilarious! Engaging story, cool visuals and definitely 5 stars for humor :) I was really happy to beat these little pixelated people.
Wreckless Rally by Flaterectomy 2018-05-06T19:50:11Z
Solid work. The art is amazing and the gameplay is smooth. One of the best entries I've played in this Jam. :red_car:
InvadTris by csanyk 2018-05-06T14:23:18Z
That is a surprising mash-up! Quite an innovative approach for old well-known arcades :smile:
Match Strike by chainedlupine 2018-05-06T15:48:31Z
Wow! It is an actual retro-sim that looks like good old F-19! That alone brings a lot of memories ))) And seeing here match-3 is really something unexpected for a flight sim genre. Kudos for mixing two totally incompatible genres! :airplane: :three:
City Blocks by legavroche 2018-04-30T21:31:01Z
Wow! It was some hypnotic experience! Big change from the classic breakout, that can be quite stressful. One of those games you could just open and play with no feeling of time. And the music complements the experience.
Nice job! :nerd:
Ballistic Skylines by invader 2018-05-01T08:52:29Z
@Arch tnx for the review. I've speed up projectiles and increased gravity in post-jam version. Maybe It needs more tuning. The scoop/building placement and teleport works only when territory is free of asteroid rubbish - so the idea is that you need to clear up the ground first with 'destroy' shots and teleport there later.
Ballistic Skylines by invader 2018-05-07T07:43:05Z
@csanyk tnx for the review. Slow-paced gameplay is something everybody complained about. I wish I've managed to playtests the game little more before the jam release. However, in the post-jam version I've increased the gravity and initial speed of the shell - that should make it more dynamic.
Sure, the resources are collected randomly - that is the whole point of a weird situation when meteors are destroying your city and creating rubbish, but at the same time when hitting the Scoop providing you with resources. You can get more resources by placing additional Scoops.
Teleport is to teleport your gun to a different location.
You can use Shift instead of Space to shoot with previous charge, so you actually could place many shots in one place (e.g. build a single building).
As for the flying cars, it is just a visual prop like cars in SimCity - the traffic just reflects the population your city has.
Turn-Based Invaders from Space! by HacksawUnit 2018-05-08T09:36:08Z
It's a nice little game. Very fresh approach to an old arcade. I like it! Got job! :space_invader:
Colossal Cat Adventure: Maze of the Elder Gods: Lazer Turret's Revenge Part 2... by Arch 2018-05-01T09:51:43Z
I always loved terminal input and find that to be much better than GUI in many cases. The game is quite challenging - sometimes you are struggling to put needed commands just in time :smirk_cat:
It would be nice to be able to set a series of commands - like "jump left after 2s stop grab"
B.E.A.S.T.S - Break Everything And Stack Towering Structures by Cosmic Adventure Squad 2018-04-30T21:02:08Z
It is one of the most polished games I've played so far. Cool looking and fun to play :nerd:
And I always liked the idea of calling a monster and other disasters in SimCity once the town is built :laughing:
Cardcade by Simon Rahnasto 2018-05-03T19:32:56Z
Wow! That is the most polished entry I've seen so far. All aspects are done very nicely. I love the graphics and sound. And the gameplay also fits the theme well. Good job! :smile:
ACCIDENTAL EXISTENTIAL by slovnoslomo 2018-05-03T19:05:01Z
It's a nice approach to organize gameplay in a series of little games. Very moody sound and actual meaning behind the actions... Good job! :smile:
Hanoi - City of Scooters by mshopf 2018-04-30T20:28:26Z
It is fun to play! And being xkcd fan, I really like that art style.
My top score is 80 - got it the first time I played and never managed to top it later.
There are a lot of bad drivers out there! People are driving like crazy! :)
Rogue Race by Groggi 2018-04-30T21:17:58Z
I love the minimalistic style. And kudos for the movement interface - it fits very well in overall turn-based structure.
ASM Hell by vilix64 2018-05-08T09:44:08Z
cool concept. I like programming games in general, so titles like that are always fun to play. Kudos for bringing assembly language to the compo! :computer:
They ate me alive!!!
Type n' Jump by Richard N Silva 2018-05-07T07:32:55Z
Great game! I've played a bunch of console-controlled games in this jam, and this one is the most polished I've seen so far. And a very smooth gameplay, considering limitations of the terminal-based input. And I love the art style as well.
I'm a terminal junkie, so controlling something with commands is the best thing in the world for me. That is probably why this game was a great joy. Good job! :smile:
As for suggestions, it is basically the same, as for all other command-based games I've seen so far. One day I would like to see more complex series of commands in one of these games (think UNIX pipes) - when you could type something like 'right keep 3s jump right keep 2s stop'. In Type n' Jump I can type several commands, but it seems to understand only the last one.
That can make the gameplay more varied and strategic, however, will remove the tension of limited time when you are rushing to type in the right command before running into a hazard.
Offbeat Soccer by EagleEye 2018-05-07T12:14:00Z
At first, I've considered making a turn-based soccer game. Now I'm happy I've chosen another concept - this game shows that soccer looks so much better when mixed with FPS genre. Good job! :)
Late for Love by Gaze Team 2018-05-06T16:05:03Z
Cool! This is definitely the most polished game I've played so far. Gameplay is smooth and challenging. And the art looks gorgeous. Good job! :red_car:
Last Stand. [Web Play] by Darkwing00Duck 2018-05-06T15:21:48Z
kudos for innovation! A fresh approach in gameplay, that bwt works quite nicely as a local multiplayer. Good job! :helicopter:
