LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Press Enter by Jezzamon 2014-12-10T20:45:00

Cool concept! I would have liked to see the game break down even more, now it felt more like a set of levels. Maybe the jump mechanics could have changed or suddenly you're turned into an enemy. I think you have many things to play with here!

Color Is Everything. by csanyk 2014-12-08T18:50:00

A meaningful game. Simple and truly thoughtful. Well presented!

Octogonal Switcher by Jogy34 2014-12-08T22:31:00

Really nice overall mechanic, but too quirky for me to get a good understanding of how the game should be played. Good concept and innovative game screen!

Lord Wars by berkano 2014-12-09T19:32:00

I'm agreeing with @ainokaisa that the battling is not perfectly clear even if fighting in itself is very straight forward. Controlling multiple characters in some way would have been nice. Good work and really funny sound effects! :)

Tightrope Theatre by AdventureIslands 2014-12-08T03:39:00

Adding new physics and therefore game mechanics to the platform genre, refreshingly nice!

Little Dude's Epic Adventure by Jim Haslett 2014-12-08T23:49:00

This was, despite the seemingly annoying violin, a really sweet and beautiful game. The voice is very soothing and actually gives you a much better relation to the character. It's nice and all to know that the little dude is home safe, but I kind of wanted to continue his adventures. Great work!

Drop by pinkmonkeyhead 2014-12-18T21:13:00

Super fun concept, really innovative! The perspective aspect was especially interesting though for me it didn't really behave as expected. Hope you continue on this neat idea!

Maze of Pain by terrabit024 2014-12-24T23:47:00

Had no clue what the game was about 'til I eventually saw the little blue circle on the edge. Consider having some kind of indicator just showing the direction of the player, that would really have helped! Fun idea, it's really stressful, as well as rewarding when you win!

Blocked by Pinpickle 2014-12-08T11:55:00

Fun and intense! Kind of reminds me of the Wario Ware games where you need to think fast to get the current goal. Maybe would have been good to add small pauses between the screens to improve the game dynamics.

BREAK| |THROUGH by Jeremy Oduber 2014-12-08T10:13:00

Great take on this classic game! The controls feels really good and solid making it funnier to play than it maybe should be :p The visuals really add to the experience.

Weaponrise by GibTreaty 2014-12-28T12:31:00

Indeed a hard game! A bit confusing that the same feedback was given for when enemies where hit as when the player was hit, it felt like it was bad hitting the enemies. Taking out bullets with bullets was also oddly interesting. Keep up the good work!

Two Hearts by dkilford 2014-12-09T22:55:00

My right stick was scattered across my controller so I was stuck with the keyboard. Wonderful concept! I actually thought that the last levels where for two players so I felt a bit dumb when sitting there practicing my multitasking skills. For the last level I got into a zen mode where I sat and repeated the same movement over and over again for half an hour. It was actually an amazing experience. I would have loved to see a bit more training before those ridiculously hard levels and perhaps some aid/restriction to move the two synchronously. Amazing work, I really liked it!

Bluman by Luis Anton 2014-12-18T23:03:00

Cosy sounds! Really interesting wall walking/jumping, feels kinda weird in a good way. Simple and challenging. Good work!

The Paper Dance by TravisChen 2014-12-08T22:06:00

It would have been interesting to add more dance moves and combination to the controls and to play with more enemies or events that mirror the song as it progress. In the end I just sat and watched the stage grow prettier. Beautiful!

One-Floor Dungeon by Ryusui 2014-12-09T23:25:00

Playing with a controller this was actually very fun! The mechanics where really polished and matched the difficulty level very good. After 20 rooms I felt I wanted some new challenges or some kind of award/power-up. Really nice work!

Tiny Dungeon by Kortuga 2014-12-08T19:33:00

I would've liked the controls to be a bit smoother. Overall I like that you feel really small and that there's a big world to discover!

Test subject #4218 by Domantas 2014-12-10T21:32:00

Quite strange puzzles, at first they felt very linear but then they got a bit more confusing. Your fourth image looks like the stage I got stuck on, just a tiny bit crazier! Great work on the visuals, it feels really nice!

Tragic Error by Boberro 2014-12-08T02:25:00

Very original puzzles! It gave a truly mystical feeling and really made you want to play the "real" game!

Trapped?! by Grouflon 2014-12-19T23:01:00

When you introduce this kind of new mechanic, which is really smart, it's very important that you make sure that the player wont get stuck. For me, there where too much objects in the way for me to stick of any way the mechanic could work. Also, when I actually tried it first, there was a wall that unknowingly blocked me. Also, sometimes the game lagged you around when using the mechanic which was quite confusing. Apart from that, amazing work!

Visual Out by madameberry 2014-12-08T12:09:00

Beautiful and mystical. Lovely take on the classic side scroller genre.

clickbox by rubna 2014-12-10T21:17:00

A great looking game! Though I find it quite odd that you chose to use the arrow keys instead of the mouse. I like how it's somehow even cleaner than an actual tamagotchi which actually make it more appealing. An interesting submission!

Outpost: New World by BMacIntosh 2014-12-25T00:05:00

Really innovative combination of genres here! The controls kind of cut me off from the experience, I had to separate the controls from the shooting instead of feeling they where part of the same space ship so to speak. The building part was really nice though and the levels got well balanced with that game mechanic.

Shellshock by madlee 2014-12-08T11:37:00

This is very nicely done! Even if terminal users might have an advantage I really think this visual representation of commands is super innovative and easy to understand. Super fun concept, one of my favorites, it would have been great to see more levels!

Press Simulator 1964 by 2HitAdam 2014-12-18T22:53:00

I think you can do a lot more with this nice concept! For me it was hard to motivate writing anything that made sense, but if there is maybe a rating system for how many times you input some keywords (like "duck") or if you have some really basic grammar check so that you can't write just anything. Maybe combine it with these action type games, because this is a really funny idea!

discrepancy by reheated 2014-12-08T02:34:00

Nice work with visuals, sound, story and overall feel! The game mechanics was not entirely clear and the controls could have been a bit smoother, but the concept is really nice.

Dungeon of Jest by Ithildin 2014-12-08T12:04:00

I love how I first thought it looked boring and simple, while after taking the first orb immediately found it interesting. Simple and good take on the theme.

Thermonuclear War by panda 2014-12-08T02:39:00

Fun concept! Would have been nice if it was complete with alarm sounds or stressful music to really get into character! :)

Cell #327 by Aurel Bílý 2014-12-09T00:38:00

Looking and playing really good, with a few exceptions for quirky controls. The serious feel really gets you in this truly mystical and atmospheric game. Beautifully done!

Siddhachakra by AnnaGavaldaKedavra 2014-12-08T02:48:00

Very nice visuals and sound!

ULTRA REKTAGON by Harsay 2014-12-28T12:19:00

Nicely packaged and a really good take on memory themed games! I agree that this would work well for mobiles because of the touch screen, with arrow keys the controls are really a bit too jumpy. Gotta love the robot voice also!

To Continue by raincole 2014-12-08T19:55:00

Truly interesting game that quite surprisingly puts you in a quite tense emotion. It makes you feel a bit bad when you lose. Nicely done!

Silo by Azlen 2014-12-18T21:32:00

At first this seemed like a game I wouldn't get, I'm terrible at learning new game rules. But it turned out to be really simple but still very challenging and fun. The game and gameplay seems really polished. Great work, I trult enjoyed this!

duals by sergilazaro 2014-12-24T23:36:00

Interesting combination of path finding and more precise movement. Tried it on my big screen phone but even then it was a bit tiny to poke around. Clean and simple though, good work!

Falling Dots by gikdew 2014-12-18T23:11:00

Simple game with a nice package!

flop by ix 2014-12-08T12:00:00

Really fun interpretation of the theme. The controls are a bit quirky, but that might also just add to the game. Quite fun and relaxing.

Adventure 31 by Somfunambulist 2014-12-08T19:43:00

It looks gorgeous! Almost torture to have to sit 10 cm from the screen to see it though :( The controls could have been a bit smoother, but everything else is there for a nice game.

pluvia by ENDESGA 2014-12-08T18:58:00

Beautiful and atmospheric. It would be an interesting concept to try and raise this seemingly depressed character into happiness as a goal in a future version.

One of Many by SloZigec 2014-12-08T23:42:00

Nice and clean concept. The appearance of the lines seem a bit random which makes me wonder how much my movements matter. I almost liked it more to just watch multiple CPUs competing against each other :)

Titan by notajetski 2014-12-08T11:43:00

Great interpretation of the theme! My screen space ran out and switching between the windows was a bit tedious, but it was compensated with the great sense of exploration. Simple and beautiful.

Suzy v Dark Lord by Jonapulse 2014-12-08T20:10:00

Great concept! I would have loved to see a bit more polished controls and game mechanics, hopefully there'll be a continuation?

Ninja Golf by Kiwiboi 2014-12-08T23:05:00

This game plays really good and feels really polished! Sound would have been a great addition, as well as more levels. Keep up the good work!

Zoom by Walnoot 2014-12-09T23:28:00

Great take on the theme! The combat was a bit too difficult and the puzzles quickly got a bit monotone. This has great potential though. Nice work!

This Is How It Comes About by DesignerNap 2014-12-08T19:26:00

Fun to see another game questioning the definition of a game. This is really relaxing and beautiful.

Autumn Physics by Colorvade 2014-12-10T22:37:00

The game is actually really fun, I enjoyed it! I can't imagine though why you don't let the player replay a level if you fail. It would have been much more fun if you could correct it, as @dokidoki suggested.

The Adventures of Entire Game and One Screen by papazoot 2014-12-09T20:42:00

A bit confusing at first but then it got really challenging and fun! For the last levels you really needed to come up with a method of thinking (unless you wanted to bring out pen and paper ;p ), I sort of counted modulo 4 for each arrow. I really liked this game, would love to play it on my mobile phone. Great work!

Perfect Squad by Deity 2014-12-08T03:06:00

Really nice and inventive concept!

Down The Rabbit Hole by cxsquared 2014-12-08T21:52:00

Very strange feeling game, especially with the colors and changing scenery. Truly makes this quite simple platformer really interesting!

boop beep by dlowe 2014-12-26T21:33:00

The jump physics really felt unnatural in the beginning, but I actually learned them in the end. Made it through to the boss without knowing about the laser, then I realized there needed to be something more. I agree that jetpack would be nice. Maybe add laser and jetpack as upgrades throughout the game?

DebugIt(); by Recon 2014-12-10T19:22:00

A very special game with quite an innovative gameplay. I actually got a headache from the visuals, but I also think that it might be part of the experience. Interesting nonetheless!

Worms by longloaf 2014-12-18T19:26:00

Yuck, I feel disgusted..! It was quite satisfying in the end though, even if that's probably considered animal cruelty.. great work, right in the feels!

A Sketchy Game by Todnut 2014-12-08T22:43:00

Looks and plays amazingly nice! Easy to understand and love. Thanks for letting me know about Emscripten also, seems to to a great job!

Tethernum² by Eigen 2014-12-08T11:14:00

Very sleek looking game! I had a hard time understanding the mechanics but I think just a few tweaks or simpler starter levels would have helped with that.

Avoid Rage by jackrugile 2014-12-08T11:19:00

Really polished look and plays really well. The music and the gameplay integrated very good. Clean and well executed!

Squareon by okkolobr 2014-12-09T23:15:00

For such a simple idea this is actually very fun! I would have liked each level to have its own timer instead. Also, having easier levels in the beginning with less colors would have been nice. I think you could experiment with having clues in the surroundings in the level to aid you in distinguishing the number of colors. Great work!

Baldaquin V by Marcellus 2014-12-18T19:16:00

I really enjoyed this! Though I didn't really now how the mechanics with the triangle resource worked I like that it was very simple. Maybe the tutorial wasn't even necessary, because I still just sat and clicked away until I figured how to play. Really interesting entry!

Yibbits by cbear_wallis 2014-12-08T19:39:00

My screen not being 16:9 some thing was left outside of the screen, not a biggy though, and the controls was a bit quirky. Otherwise a really nice looking and playing game!

Indecisive Gamer by person124 2014-12-18T19:56:00

Sweet idea! Reminds me a bit of the Wario Ware Inc. games!

Polyfill by Namide 2014-12-08T12:46:00

This is actually like a reinvented, slowpaced tetris game. I love the combination of platformer and pure puzzler. It's acutally really fun. Amazing job!

oYo by TagliatL 2014-12-10T22:21:00

Really nice packaging of this game! Would have been fun to see what mechanics you would have implemented if you had the time. I guess you could even write a small algorithm that randomly generates levels for you.

Run Bzzt, Run ! by Agram 2014-12-28T12:05:00

Really nice and polished game! However, the "ghost blocks" are the worst, not because they're hard to spot, but because they're impossible to spot. If you could see on the sprite that they are not solid then it's the players fault for not being alert, now it's just the game playing tricks on you. When the game feels so finished as it does then this really bugs me. Amazing work otherwise!

Gorilla Rampage by bigdad1630 2014-12-18T20:42:00

I would have liked to have the highscore updating as I beat my old record, now I keep looking at the highscore because it has the biggest text. Still a nice implementation for a classic game!

Fluidity by WetDesertRock 2014-12-18T21:00:00

Great looking game! I had a quite hard time getting used to the movement of the worm, might have been easier if it behaved more like a snake like it have sort of a trace. Simple and clean game!

Off Screen by Bogden 2014-12-08T09:58:00

Great and simple concept! The stylish look is really fitting!

endless rules by dunin 2014-12-08T02:07:00

I like how it encourages you to find out about each next rule and that the feeling is suitably mystical. I would probably have played longer if rule #3 was a little later on the list :)

Squishi by uncade 2014-12-18T22:16:00

Having seen a few by now, this must be the best looking changing-terrain concepts. A bit squishi controls but I guess that's appropriate. Really nice work!

Last Rooftop Hero by Phoenix849 2014-12-10T20:59:00

Although this game looks really sleek it is one of the most bizarre games I've played. I guess it's a combination of the context, the game mechanics and the hilarious falling sound. I really think you should take this further, it is actually quite fun!

Oscillation by MaddeMichael 2014-12-08T10:45:00

My favorite so far! The zoom is really fitting to the theme while also adding an interesting mechanic to the genre. The sweet jump controls and the great level design made you really curious to continue playing. Nicely done!

Hands Race by AnglerteamGames 2014-12-18T19:21:00

A really well made game for a good purpose, I would definitely like to use this if I where to learn sign-language!

Spike Jumper by bobmandude9889 2014-12-10T22:52:00

I like the floaty jump physics, it actually lets you really push the boundaries on the level about how you can jump. Unfortunately after this LD theme I've grown tired of these level transitions giving the notion of the game being on one screen, though it still looks nice!

I think you should work a bit on the physics and hit detection, sometimes I'm killed by a spike under a floor piece if I fall down fast. Also, consider adding more "micro pauses" to your game at level start and death and so on. Now if you die you don't have time to react before the levels start again and occasionally you die once again just because of that. Good work anyways!

Outrun by Yarr 2014-12-08T11:29:00

Interesting concept. At first you think that you know how it works but then you realize what's going on as you go. Clean and simple.

A Link Between Screens by trykondev 2014-12-09T19:59:00

This was actually one of the more challenging games for me, in a very good sense. I sat down for quite a while figuring out the tricky but very funny puzzles. The combination of adventurer and puzzler is really great and I think it is actually one of the better combinations that I wished I saw more often. Amazing work!

Don't Stop by AndreasL 2014-12-08T02:16:00

From the title to the level design it is a really nicely packaged game. As the player you immediately learn that collecting the "balls" guide you to dodge the different obstacles while also giving the items a purpose (unlike other games). Very nicely done!

Chess Wars by Skipi 2014-12-08T20:05:00

Fun concept. A bit slow for me and I felt a bit overwhelmed of all the possible tactics.

I had problem with a missing OpenAL32.dll file when running the game. This link fixed it for me https://code.google.com/p/rallyraid/downloads/detail?name=oalinst.zip&can=2&q=

Quads by DMajor 2014-12-08T19:01:00

An interesting take on the "gravity platformer" genre.

birdsong by managore 2014-12-30T20:15:00

I saw a post about this game early in the competition thinking that it was a truly interesting take on the theme and have looked for it since. I'm really happy that the last game I played for this LD was also the best! Incredibly good controls and fun level design. The shader effect made me dizzy quite a lot but it was used in such an innovative and good way that it was justified. Hope to see more from you in the future!

shootAbox by skulioskarsson 2014-12-10T22:27:00

I like that you chose to have a box as the sprite, that made it easier to see that you can only shoot in four directions. Add some power-ups and this would be a really nice game! One power-up could for example be that you're turned into a circle which lets you shoot in all directions, continuing on the concept you already started.

SQUISH AND BOUNCE by waveformmodulations 2014-12-19T21:38:00

First I thought that the game was too hard, then suddenly I got 150+. Adding sync with the music would have helped me in the beginning and I also think that you could have made it successively harder by adding obstacles in a pattern that could then be mapped to the music. I liked how the coming obstacles appeared in the field of view, nice implementation of a classic game!

Node Alpha by Geckoo1337 2014-12-08T22:52:00

Interesting puzzler. I had a hard time figuring out what to do and what different things did, but the game is beautifully packaged.

Super Resizer by foolmoron 2014-12-10T20:23:00

It's really an example of thinking outside the box, and it's the second submission I see using browser windows in this LD. Gamewise I'm not entirely sure I understood what to do, I just sat resizing my window for a while, which was ridiculously funny considering the circumstance. Interesting!

Tacit by tanjent 2014-12-08T11:52:00

Love the use of sound! Would probably play better if the mouse was locked within the area, I constantly got lost and had to peek. Great concept though, would have loved to see more mechanics!

Pixel Platform by Shivur 2014-12-18T19:40:00

Damn small! The collision box/pixel was like 10 pixels off from the ground for me, so it got even harder. If you really wanted the one pixel look, which I agree is a very intriguing concept, I think you should have gone with a much cleaner environment where the player pixel really pops out!

Beat Jumper by fueelin 2014-12-10T21:07:00

For me the music didn't seem to be in sync with the platform bars which was rather sad. I admire the idea and hope that it worked as it should for others. Good work!

LD31_EGoOS by nofxboy1234 2014-12-28T11:38:00

The jump height was random for me, ranging from normal to super high. Though I guess it's a quirk in your code I actually found it quite interesting, it required me to take into account that I might jump higher for every jump i took. Also, I really liked the health bar, that helped a lot! Kepp up the good work!

THE ONE SCREEN by falcon11445 2014-12-09T23:45:00

As @Wakka said the physics felt weird at first but then I really liked how you had perfect air control and could kill all enemies in one go. Would have been nice to play more levels and possibly with some puzzles. Good work!

Spaceship Jumpy Survival Thingy... Ish? by Norgesnerd 2014-12-08T11:25:00

Simple concept nicely done. Though extremely frustrating you are encouraged to see what is beyond the screen, and the controls are actually quite good.

Snowbert by spacedoubt 2014-12-09T18:51:00

I like that you didn't have to be told what to do but immediately understood after getting your first arm. It's actually a very good interpretation of the theme, showing the whole game from the beginning though it only makes sense when put into context. Good work!

Zoom by ChezPain 2014-12-08T21:32:00

Great game mechanics! I had some problems with not knowing where I would end up if i zoomed in/out. Maybe a continuous zoom animation would have helped.

Line Knight by QuexD 2014-12-28T12:13:00

I like how the game progresses as you walk further on the screen, it works really well as a progress bar. Interesting choice to use the "1" key, maybe add a legend for that. Keep up the good work!

Cubed by LoHii 2014-12-08T22:26:00

Well, what can I say, I'm totally frightened..!!

Resonant Flux by Rob Glen 2014-12-09T23:00:00

Really smooth controls and very fluent game experience, both with the mechanics, visuals and sounds. Cool work!

Super Pong Quest by Quarterflip 2014-12-09T23:37:00

I had a great time setting the computer up, though the actual pong game was a bit disappointing. Would have been awesome if the whole game is about setting up your computer, and playing the game is the goal, but then there is a ton of things you need to set up before you can play. Then when you're done the actual game is a total let down and all have just been a big set up. It's all about the journey... great work!

The Eternal Bee by palmar 2014-12-17T21:55:00

This game is actually quite sad. Given there is no end to the suffering (apart from heaven) I don't know if I ever want to play it again. If I could at least be given hope that I can save the bee in some way, like a space ship in the far distance, then I would probably play for a loong time. Oh yeah, stereoscopic 3D and like a joystick would have been kick ass. Really nice little work!

Avalanche by uvwar 2014-12-08T22:59:00

The integreated music is just wonderful and how it mirrors the events in the game. A game where it is almost funnier to die than reaching the goal, now that's something. Great work!

Same Insane by hazzahazzam 2014-12-17T22:13:00

This is truly wonderful! Humorous, fun, creative and one of the best takes on the theme! This was really thinking outside of the box, thank you for the experience!

InchAlpha by fil00dl 2014-12-25T00:24:00

Played the compo version. Sweet looks and sounds! Though I kind of get the feeling I'm following instructions rather than playing a game. The timer is so slow for each move that there is not much challenge and the pace stays the same. I think it has a lot of potential though!

Box by ShaunJS 2014-12-18T22:44:00

It took quite some time for me to understand that you could only place/remove blocks in close proximity, didn't really get why though. Perfect take on the theme and a very nice game overall!

VOTE SNOWMAN (ON ONE SCREEN) by Ovidios 2014-12-17T22:37:00

Agreeing with @Meta-link about the non-existing speed limit, I actually sat through a whole revolution (the snowman moving one screen each frame)... Simple concept that plays well!

Get Ripped by ssheep 2014-12-08T23:19:00

For the simple game mechanics this was actually a lot of fun. Really nicely done!

Jumping n' Jumping by Eduardo 2014-12-08T22:36:00

Looks and plays great! Would have been fun to have a bigger area to play in and some more air control so that the extra jumps mechanic could really be explored. Nice work!

Klieu - Cargo Carrier by chipcaramel 2014-12-28T12:27:00

A bit complex controls as well as confusing when you first start out about what you can do. Interesting mechanic of using both your hands, could really be used for some cool scenarios! Also, I was really intrigued to explore the outside of the spaceship, that would have been awesome!

Snow Invasion by Zayron 2014-12-10T20:11:00

Quite oddly this reminded me of the breakout games with power-ups, like DX Ball, but in a platform environment. I think it's a really good start! The power-ups arrived just as I started to get bored of the current mechanic which was very nice. Continue in that direction!

Space FireFighter by naufr4g0 2014-12-08T10:55:00

Sweet old school feel, even for the controls which you really need to learn in order to master the game. Nicely done!

Turtles World by Boehrsi 2014-12-24T23:55:00

I like the physics of the turtle, but clicking for swimming really doesn't feel like the best way. For example having two keys, one for each left and right paddle, would have been interesting. Or maybe you can think of something else, at least a bit less annoying. Keep up the good work!

Little Snow World by rsergiu2003 2014-12-08T23:27:00

I actually think the controls are not too bad, it's more the collision physics that gets me. With a bit nicer physics this might well have been crazy fun. Great work!

SL1M3 by gogo199432 2014-12-26T21:58:00

Took a while to understand the blocks. Animations of the block would really have helped, now some things just seemed random in the beginning. Also, if you turn around quickly you might be sent an extra step in the wrong direction. Actually quite nice puzzles though!

Ball Bouncer 3D by AsGoodAsThis 2014-12-18T22:58:00

As already stated: shadows and a nicer placement of the ball when started. Maybe you should even start with just having a board that you steer and then the ball is something you get at a higher level. Continue with this game and make it super nice!

ZoomZone by Manderxan 2014-12-28T11:48:00

Awesome idea and really well executed! Having the next blocks be a brighter red would really have helped, I don't really see the point of having them half transparent. Plays very nice and is really quite fun!

beheaded person steals heads by scnoobi 2014-12-18T22:03:00

Interesting concept, when explained. I like that you see all the heads that you collect, it really adds to the fun. Some more self-explained visuals would have helped, but overall nice!

Curious Archibald by Magicolo 2014-12-28T11:23:00

A really nice game idea, sort of a fusion of a platformer with upgrades and lemmings! It would have been interesting to merge the play mode and the build mode a bit more, like having a stream of ghosts, but maybe that's not feasible when the level is so long. More explanation of the power ups, or just making everything a bit bigger, might have helped.

Crumble by jasonLJ 2014-12-08T21:46:00

Good take on the "changing level" concept and that the actual changing of the level played such a big part of the game mechanics. Really funny and polished!

The House by miguelmurca 2014-12-23T23:55:00

This is amazingly atmospheric! The mechanic really struck me the first time because I had read the controls but didn't knew what to use it for. So scary hearing that voice the first time! Maybe the "monsters" shouldn't be so frequent, they quickly grow not-scary. Nonetheless, a great experience!

Ice Blocks by Troilk 2014-12-09T19:43:00

It took a while for me to understand the mechanics but once I did it was actually quite fun! For these cases it's really important to have introductory levels which is trivial but gets you accustomed to the mechanics. Nicely packaged game overall!

a TV Show or a One Screen Game by Si1ver 2014-12-17T22:21:00

Really sweet little game! I like how you get to explore how it works by playing, making you feel better when you actually get it. Would have been interesting to see other elements in the game but maybe that would make it too complex. Beautifully made!

Beams! by DiegoMustache 2014-12-10T20:03:00

Visually gorgeous while still keeping it simple and clean, really nice! The last rooms where actually quite challenging, though I would have liked it if there where more elements to the mechanics. I had the same control problems as some others which of course made the gameplay quite tedious.

AntiPlane by Grenac 2014-12-08T19:11:00

I'm quite blown away, it actually works! Great take on the concept from anti chamber as well as the LD theme.

Square by onilink_ 2014-12-18T21:24:00

Clever and challenging game! I didn't really like the blocks tipping over if they where on an edge, that made it really hard to plan ahead since it was already hard from the start. Looks good and plays nice though!

GraviFlip by oh_andrej 2014-12-08T12:13:00

The game mechanics works great, though the game starts off a bit too difficult. Plus for retro style!

Santas Serfs by ProfessorRekyl 2014-12-08T20:54:00

Really fun concept! Actually gives you a reminder of what christmas can also result in..

Orion by gilead 2014-12-08T02:50:00

Beautiful concept! Gotta love the sound effects also!

Roids by kburkhart84 2014-12-18T19:48:00

I really like the additions to the controls! I suddenly wondered why I thought the space ship behaved like a car and then realized that I could go in reverse. Strange when you think about it that this is such a strange concept for space ships. A bit hard, but then I always find asteroids quite hard. Great work!

Monsters by Rulrite 2014-12-08T11:08:00

A very fun take on the classic Game & Watch systems. I like how the difficulty matches more the current standards than the limitations with the predecessor.

ERROR: Could not load graphics by Renaldo 2014-12-18T21:56:00

Fun concept, I would have liked some more mechanics in the game in order to give it a bit more purpose. Having the goal of for example trying to fix the error in the game would have been really fun!

Perfect Mind by nekroadmin 2014-12-08T19:50:00

This looks really interesting, but I just can't figure out how it's played!

Perfect Mind by nekroadmin 2014-12-09T21:37:00

Below the surface of complete confusion there actually lies quite a sophisticated puzzle game. After watching your videos and trying out a bit I realized that it was actually the game that played tricks on me. The lines didn't always show up for me, but I had to drag it around a bit before the line shown. Still I didn't figure how you sometimes could move it further and sometimes not. I see now however that the game is about matching the order of the symbols with the angle of the drawn lines, actually a very clever concept.

Now there are a lot of reasons why you might not have gotten the feedback that you deserve. First off you really need a tutorial because there are so many specific mechanics that you need to know about in order to play the game. Then the game need to work properly so that it's not confusing what is a mechanic and what is a quirk (maybe it did work for you though). Finally, that there is a timer is only mentioned but not shown and so you are very surprised to see that the game suddenly ends without explanation.

The underlying mechanics are really good though, but I think you should consider how it is played. What is the core mechanics in the game and how would it be easiest to control and understand them? To sum up, you did an amazing work on the concept!

The Hyperbeam by pk 2014-12-18T21:46:00

Truly nice take on the concept, especially liked how the stereo effect told you where on the screen you where. Puzzles got a bit messy and hard to understand, but that's just a matter of tweaking. Good work!

SUPER BOMB SHOOTER 48 by vlamaster 2014-12-18T22:29:00

Simple yet challenging idea that keeps you playing for a while! Would have been fun to have different kind of bombs, for example one that drops immediately but only explodes within a set timer and you need to throw away. This have some potential!

We Are One by justking14 2014-12-08T20:59:00

Really cool concept and great controls! A bit short and the different screens might have benefited from being more "connected" so that you don't accidentally reach the goal for a player you didn't focus on.

Microscope by johnbrynte 2014-12-08T12:17:00

@gre Thanks, those are really great ideas! Yeah, adding a mechanic for zooming that looks and feel nice would be truly awesome. Apart from more organisms as you mentioned I think that the player should also be given power-ups to easier clear off the hordes. Hopefully there will be a second version in the future :)

Microscope by johnbrynte 2014-12-08T12:30:00

@Ithildin Yeah I'm sorry for the bug, but i guess it adds to the mystical feeling.. @DavidErosa Sweet! My current record is 28 seconds ;)

Microscope by johnbrynte 2014-12-09T00:42:00

@daftcube Oh, yeah, didn't thought about that... maybe should remove the sound effects...

Microscope by johnbrynte 2014-12-09T21:52:00

@spacedoubt Oh yeah sorry, I didn't have time to add a check if you have WebGL enabled in your browser. Go here to find out how you can enable it http://get.webgl.org/

Microscope by johnbrynte 2014-12-11T22:53:00

@Frozen Fractal Nice! Thank you! I didn't have time to try any other controls unfortunately, though I think touch controls would work really nice as several have suggested. Initially the game was supposed to be much more direct and responsive in the controls, but then I increased the smoothing of the position a lot and this game was born :)

Microscope by johnbrynte 2014-12-18T23:12:00

Thank you for all the comments! I truly appreciate them all, keeps me going! :)

Microscope by johnbrynte 2014-12-23T23:26:00

@PapyPilgrim Good point! In my opinion, "fun" is in this context synonymous with the overall rating since that should describe how much you I "enjoyed" the game. At least that category didn't make sense to me at the time, as neither did the ability to remove categories, so I just unchecked it, not much thought behind.

Microscope by johnbrynte 2014-12-24T13:20:00

@PapyPilgrim A very good post! This should really be required to read before rating, understanding the system is key to make a good rating. I feel that I, as you mention, might change the way I rate the more games I play.

Microscope by johnbrynte 2014-12-30T12:11:00

Thank you all for playing, rating and commenting my entry! This has really been a great learning experience and I will definitely come back to make more games, hope to see you then!

Dog Pile by StackAttack 2014-12-23T23:44:00

Really fun idea! The difficulty varied quite much, it would have been nice to have a less steep learning curve. Some of the mechanics was a bit confusing also, that you sometimes fell through the floor unexpectedly, but maybe that was just bugs so to speak. Great work!

SwitchCubes by erik 2014-12-26T22:09:00

Very fun to explore the maze! However, if you where to develop this game further it would be interesting to see if you could put more logic into what blocks the buttons change, just to make the puzzles be less trial and error-ish.

Space Fireworks 3000: The Shmup by Darkfrost 2014-12-08T21:14:00

Sleek look and nice gameplay! Takes my mind to Ikaruga.

Labyrinth by DDRKirby(ISQ) 2014-12-09T00:06:00

This is by far the best introduction to a game I have ever seen. After hearing those notes from Bach and then seeing that little guy dancing it out to the beat really gets you excited to play. And then the game doesn't let you down. Great level design and the automatic spawn point mechanics really kept me from giving up too early. Such an amazing piece of work, awesomely done!

Level Designer by munchor 2014-12-18T19:35:00

Fun concept! The random blocks of random size is quite annoying though, it's really hard to plan ahead. About the mentioned last block that also made it feel quite random overall. Otherwise nice game! I wonder if you considered having physics running while you're jumping also?

Shifting Dungeon by codeapparat 2014-12-09T19:28:00

A fun interpretation of the theme. Plays and look great too! Would have been fun to see more game mechanics, especially how the changing of the level could be used to the players advantage.

Legend of Feleria by Dietrich Epp 2014-12-19T22:44:00

Nice music! The end music started playing over the other music track, then I couldn't proceed, not sure if I won though.

A Place in Space by lokijki 2014-12-08T10:09:00

Great controls and feel of the gameplay. Very good feeling of exploration also, with the dividing of the rooms and the strange creatures.

Toytown by Frozen Fractal 2014-12-08T02:19:00

Cool proof of concept with a really robust platform in such a short time!

The X of Y by Homletmoo 2014-12-08T01:56:00

I didn't found out how to fight/avoid enemies. Really liked the expanding map and the sturdy controls! Stable platform, very good! :)

Beautiful Yoga Explosion by nosfer 2014-12-17T21:46:00

I think that for a two player on one keyboard setup these controls worked quite well, but I would have wanted the aiming to be quicker. Perhaps you can be inspired by the 2D Metroid games and just have vertical, horizontal and diagonal aiming. I guess it's easy to start thinking about smaller things when the game looks so good otherwise. Great work! :)

Memories of Seasons by ncannasse 2014-12-08T13:01:00

What a wonderful world you created! Fun to see a game that really focuses on a continuous story, and for having the entire game on one screen you really did a great job making it interesting. Awesome!

LD35 — Shapeshift

0-/-0 by swinestudios 2016-04-19T20:30:00

Nice to see a new and interesting mechanic! If you continue on this project I would suggest to add controls for moving a shape with the mouse, without resizing it step by step which got a bit tedious :)

Turnstone by Walnoot 2016-04-25T20:57:00

A wonderful puzzle game and take on the theme! Very balanced controls and levels. It wasn't clear to me that the cube was shifted into the small cube in the beginning, or why the big cube couldn't jump. You could maybe choose another shape as the first one (circle for example). Or make the big cube jump ridiculously short, so that you can see that it could jump if it was smaller.

Also, I think the graphics fit the game, got me thinking about Elasto Mania :)

Soko Match by francoisvn 2016-04-19T22:46:00

I was a bit confused by the rules, having both numbers and colors, as well as what spawned the immovable blocks. Maybe I just need more tutorial levels though. Liked it, still! :)

Pegs In Space by Smiley 2016-04-23T14:44:00

I also thought that the walls were too dark at first, but then realized that it was actually a good obstacle to disturb the players flow a bit. Nice game!

Ludumdare #35 by Robert 2016-04-28T22:30:00

I had a hard time getting used to what was obstacles and what was ground, making me constantly wondering why I all of a sudden wasn't moving. Otherwise I liked that you had to move while shooting, it made it more interesting than if for example the monsters would recoil on every hit :)

Tentacle Boy by thegunmaster 2016-04-28T23:15:00

It almost felt like walking! Except you control each leg with the hand on the opposite side of your body, moving each leg independently up/down front/back by pressing unlabeled buttons, and at the same time being amazed by the peculiar things that your legs can do.

I would probably have liked this amazing game more if the poor boy have had no legs, since there is no valid explanation as to why he does not just use them to walk. Sincerely, I hope that you continue to develop this idea. Especially the control scheme <3

Tetroidvania by gelisam 2016-04-23T15:09:00

Indeed very smart! Perhaps the rotating and shifting of shapes could be aided with a "ghost" shape. Ex. holding Z shows a "ghost" of how the shape will look like and releasing Z performs the actual rotation if it is possible. Nice work though!

Soundscape (Find the Light) by johnbrynte 2016-04-20T07:44:00

@uchiro Happy that you could appreciate the game despite it didn't work properly for you, and I'm sorry that it didn't!

I'll see if I can fix the issue. Please comment here if anyone else has the same or another issue, thanks!

Soundscape (Find the Light) by johnbrynte 2016-04-20T19:44:00

@Swedishpancaces Great to hear! Yes it can be truly difficult, but my only advice is to be patient and alert ;) Thanks for playing!

Soundscape (Find the Light) by johnbrynte 2016-04-21T10:14:00

@WojtaW, @vctr_seleucos Thank you both for the feedback! I agree, the player is left too uninformed and it is really hard to figure out what I as the developer intended.

It has been an experiment for me and you guys are the first to test and give feedback on it, which I truly appreciate. So keep hitting me with aggressive and kind comments, because I really would like to revisit this game idea some time! :)

Soundscape (Find the Light) by johnbrynte 2016-04-22T21:51:00

Thank you very much! Wonderful that you can see some potential, despite the rather frustrating difficulty.

@avinashd Oh nice, thanks for the advice! I also experienced some inconsistencies in the panning, but didn't have time to explore the library or the Web Audio API as much as I would have wanted to. Got some ideas how to simplify the sound model thought.

Actually, for all the JS hackers out there, if you want to cheat you can turn on a graphic debug by running document.body.appendChild(canvas) in the console ;)

Soundscape (Find the Light) by johnbrynte 2016-04-23T07:45:00

Wow, thanks for the appreciation!

@ChummyWinds A very good point, that I failed to convey. The idea is that each line represents a 90 degree turn, so two lines takes you back where you came. I'll add it to the description!

Soundscape (Find the Light) by johnbrynte 2016-04-24T14:45:00

@Djapz30 I applaud you for you courage and patience. Good work!

Soundscape (Find the Light) by johnbrynte 2016-04-25T10:34:00

Such awesome feedback! Thank you all! :D

@Klaas Yes, well spotted, that is exactly the effect of standing close to a light. The way I built the world, which I've thanks to all of you testers found was maybe not the best way, is to randomly scatter "beacons" around a light source. Each beacon emits a sound within a set interval, high frequencies faster than the low frequencies. When you stand on or close to a beacon the sound will be panned in the middle, even if the light is in fact in another direction.

@theOnlyGoodDrcz Maybe I should take a look at his movies to get some inspiration :)

@MatMortatti So wonderful to hear about your experience, this is exactly the way I wanted the player to feel! And yes, there sure are some issues that needs to be addressed in order for it to reach out to more players. One thing I think would really make this a greater experience is to use head tracking. Imagine using an oculus only for the headtracking and making your environment completely dark! Thanks for sharing, I truly appreciate it! :)

Tangram Escape by jhell 2016-04-24T00:33:00

A very clever mechanic, and fortunately it clicked for me right away! Not really sure how I won though, always difficult with such low resolution symbols.

Hunter & Fox by lumscum 2016-04-25T21:12:00

Very interesting game! Maybe only because the fox looked so "stealthy", but I think that this game could successfully be turned into a stealth game. Imagine shifting shape depending on your environment to either blend in or be the superior animal. Good work nonetheless!

Morph by Graham Weldon 2016-04-24T15:26:00

Not sure how the shape shifting was supposed to work, since it shifted both with keys 1-3 (not in the instructions) as well as seemingly random. Despite that, I liked how you could combine the different abilities to make simple combat combos. The physics of the rocket felt nice too.

Bleeps by DinnerInTheDark 2016-04-22T20:23:00

Really good for learning rhythm! If teaching music was your approach maybe you could connect the shape more with the music, in some way. Maybe let them rotate when playing so that when each corner hits a certain spot its note or sound is played. Unfortunately my small screen placed one of the nodes behind another button so I couldn't finish the game. Nice work!

Color Shift by Alarmed Dino 2016-04-19T22:32:00

Clean and simple, it works really well with the game idea since the real challenge is remembering the order of the colors. I liked it :)

Continental Trade Route Association by Swedishpancaces 2016-04-20T21:21:00

I had a blast playing this game! The only thing that really bothered me was the inability to destroy/undo roads, and perhaps that there wasn't so much of a competition. Some thoughts:

- Showing statistics of usage of the roads would be nice, so you can see how you could re-arrange roads.
- Being able to click on a merchant to see status would also be nice, instead of following with the mouse.
- Statistics or maybe sprites to see where goods come from and where they're going.
- Ability to see supply and demand for each town.

Well, I could go on, but I think that you have ideas for yourself's. I just wanted to show that I really appreciated your game :)

As a bonus, here is a video of what happens when hiring 3000 merchants (mapping the scroll wheel to send left clicks). Note the hickups every merchant-update loop (?) https://vid.me/G1x8

Shiftrix by stephenb12 2016-04-28T23:43:00

I think it was a surprisingly innovative and fun game for being such a simple one! For me the game was essentially about collecting shapes in an nonstop succession. So I wonder if maybe the player should only be punished for interupting a streak, rather than being punished for not having cat-like reflexes. Good work nonetheless ?

ShapeDodger by Djapz30 2016-04-22T18:23:00

Good balance with the controls! As @nihilaleph said, the player need some time to understand the mechanics of the game before dying after 4 seconds :)

Barrel Roller by Sandyloisa 2016-04-20T21:47:00

Nice mechanic! Although it wasn't too logic that the mass changed with the orientation of the barrel :) And I'm sorry, but I thought the music was incredibly unfitting. I would expect more like a jazz noir track, kind of like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUAaDVmkQMc

Blink by samlo 2016-04-19T22:25:00

Very fitting sounds and visuals to the gameplay, really polished! One thing that made things difficult for me was that the player didn't stay in the middle of the camera when moving, making the aim shift, even thought the effect looked nice :)

Unbecoming by tomlum 2016-04-22T18:47:00

A truly bizarre ending to a very cute little game! The icing on the cake for me was the ability to moonwalk by pressing A & D. Good work!

Shapeshift by hildegarbage 2016-04-22T19:19:00

Nice to see such a fresh mechanic that also fits the theme really well! Awesome work!

Doodles by El_WaKa 2016-04-22T19:40:00

I love these little exploration games with power-ups! Unfortunately, I was overwhelmed by the many buttons and the control scheme. Mapping the up arrow key to jump would have helped a bunch I think. But good work nonetheless!

Don't Look at Me by ijona 2016-04-22T19:46:00

It felt like going around inside your own mind turning off bad dreams or similar; very creepy, but also very pleasing. Good use of sound and the first person perspective.

Pentagon by Bookworm31 2016-04-24T15:58:00

The controls froze for me whenever I restarted a level, so I needed to start from the beginning every time. I like the complexity that comes from having two separate switches!

Algebro by ChummyWinds 2016-04-25T20:28:00

A really unified game with gameplay, setting, graphics and sound all matching, nice work! And that menu music, wow, I sat down just listening to it for a few minutes.

Cool Shape-Shifting Monstrosity by featherdoodle 2016-04-24T19:15:00

It wasn't clear to me what the difference between circle and triangle was, or why you would choose to use the square. Maybe if it had much more powerful bombs ;) Liked it though!

LD36 — Ancient Technology

Pen and paper by RasmusErik 2016-08-30T06:38:00

Beautiful and fun implementation of this game! Some guidelines of where the lines can go, i.e. the size of the game board, would be a good addition.

Pigeon, Pigeon, Pigeon by johnbrynte 2016-08-30T21:01:00

@MrNyarlathotep Thanks for playing! :) We liked the concept of building geometry, which also adds to the difficulty of the game. However, the snake movement would be a cool power-up!

Biomass by MrNyarlathotep 2016-08-30T21:18:00

Nice graphics! Would have felt less unbalanced if you could choose the placement of the plants more freely, and if the humans were a bit more aggressive.

LD37 — One room

Harmless Titan by oyoh 2016-12-13T22:37:00

Interesting controls, I thought otherwise first but turned to liking the rotation with the right stick! Not entirely clear how well you were doing but otherwise great finish.

Smallest Dungeon by Reuno 2016-12-13T23:39:00

I only mashed buttons, so it wasn't really what I usually look for in games. But the experience, with visuals and audio, were really quite amazingly nice, especially considering the tiny amount of actual gameplay.

Smallest Dungeon by Reuno 2016-12-13T23:42:00

Also, I think an enemy got stuck outside of the boundaries from my super crazy knockback, so the game got into a softlock (web version).

Bathroom Break Manager by tigerfinch 2016-12-13T22:01:00

Ahh, that flushing sound and reset to 0% is almost as satisfying as the real deal. I wanted to put a slide for the people at the top floor, or invest in diapers, would have been interesting. Nice work!

Home Decorator by Shivur 2016-12-13T22:13:00

Nice concept and well balanced rules/values! I would have wanted a small explanation and an example of the ergonomics attribute, to make the first minutes less confusing.

Monolith by ScreamRawr 2016-12-13T23:22:00

Wonderfully executed! I've been thinking about making a platformer with this same perspective myself, so it's fun to see that you managed to make such a nice game around it. Making precise jumps forwards and backwards is really difficult, of course, but the perspective can be used to hide alternate paths that are not obvious at first, something that you perfectly managed to put into your game. Amazing level design and use of abilities!

However, the color tint was really annoying and the controls were actually quite horrible. Y u no have joypad support?? My hands started hurting so much I needed to use my left hand on the joypad for moving and my right hand on the keyboard. The feel of the controls in game were great though.

Great work guys!

Don't Stop Me by breno 2016-12-13T22:31:00

Really nice atmosphere! The controls felt a bit strange, or it was just too difficult for me, anyway it would have been nice to have a slower difficulty curve to get used to the controls.

One Room by zenwraight 2016-12-13T22:20:00

Agreed, nice controls (and cool to be a bat!) but the ghost in the beginning and the collectibles was a bit confusing. Good one, though very short!

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Crazy Cat Lady by Jacksendary 2017-12-05T23:14:23Z

Purrfect puns, 10/10 :cat: Only one question: Why can't I pick up or pet my cats? :slight_frown:

Crunch Time by gelisam 2017-12-07T23:08:59Z

Solid graphics and overall aesthetics!

I did not get the mechanics even though I could make it through all the levels :grimacing: In my opinion, the key to a good tutorial is to start really simple and let the user fill in the blanks, even if those blanks might not require any or much thinking at all. The user can also be guided with graphics and animations, besides using text.

Keep up the good work!

M - (name is too short) by WetDesertRock 2017-12-22T23:41:03Z

I liked that you could use the environment to keep balls away, maybe building on that would be interesting. Mostly I think that making moving around feel more fun would make the game more fun :) Now it got a bit monotonously after a while. Cool design though!

Robosseum by gogo199432 2017-12-05T23:05:37Z

I really liked the environment! It only lacked some nice ambient lightning :bulb:

Pennies Are Gold by commanderstitch 2017-12-23T00:08:03Z

Felt a bit like John Conway's Game of Life, with a cameo by the White House. Really nice that you crammed in so many NPC's!

I would have liked some keyboard shortcuts for selecting a house to build.

Warehouse Panic by benjamin 2017-12-19T20:51:01Z

Great polish and great fun! Really nice feeling controls, although everything is so teensy that it feels a bit awkward to move around. On the other side this adds to the insistent feeling of stress that creeps on to you from behind :sweat_drops: Lovely work, I truly enjoyed it!

Tail by conk 2017-12-22T22:58:42Z

I loved the movement, playing with a controller i felt like I had full control of the snake even in the tiny corridors. However...

First I was going to talk about how it was hard to only being able to shoot in the direction in which you're moving. But then I played it again and realized that I was playing it the *wrong way*. Really I think it's a game about moving, keeping up the flow so that you can quickly get away from the enemy's aim. I ended up **circling "around" the enemies** and only shoot when I briefly face them every revolution.

So, with that in mind I think that the current movement promotes a game where you shouldn't stay in one place but keep moving. If the game should instead be about occasionally stopping to kill enemies I think that it should be easier to move in these circle patterns. Also, if you like the current keep moving-feel, I think that it would be really helpful if the game view zoomed out when you move at higher speeds.

Hope that you can make any sense of that :stuck_out_tongue: Great looking game and nice controls anyways!

Stack by johnbrynte 2017-12-04T19:20:33Z

@conorod I'm glad that it made you feel at least something 😎

Stack by johnbrynte 2017-12-06T00:56:39Z

I agree about the red background choice... :expressionless: @fashionbatman @rasco

True that, let's see it as an exploration for something a bit more interesting :smirk: @szabe

The unscientific physics could really go for som more work! But I've also grown to like the sensitivity of it, although maybe it should be saved until the stack is very high @lewis-quaife

Great idea! I thought about zooming out the view port when the player got outside, but I should probably try both @fluidvolt

Stack by johnbrynte 2017-12-23T21:22:58Z

Thank you @stmatn and @prodigalson for your feedback! It seems that you helped me get over the rating barrier :innocent:

I agree that the controls are too sensitive. I've actually had the opportunity of watching several people play the game and have gotten some insight into how people *expect* the tower to react to the inputs.

One thing I will also probably test is making a mobile version that uses the accelerometer as input, so that you will need to tilt the phone accordingly  Thanks all for your feedback!

International Gift Helper by Pete 2017-12-19T21:16:38Z

I actually thought the lack of a timer was quite interesting, it made you think more steps ahead. Unfortunately for the larger stages it got a little too much so I'm spending an eternity trying to find some patterns. Nice interpretation of the theme still :)

Rhythm Bandit by fashionbatman 2017-12-23T00:50:52Z

Fun and innovative!

8-bit aesthetics in all glory, but I often feel a bit heart broken when the limited graphics affects the mechanics of the game negatively :broken_heart: For me rhythm is about *feeling* the beat and where it's going. In your game the music is a great basis for feeling that rhythm, but the graphics are completely static in between the beats meaning that I don't know where everything's moving. I think this *nice* game could be a **GREAT** game if the graphics would have the same flow as the music, with transitions and effects to show where everything is moving.

Eatly by zenwraight 2017-12-23T00:34:25Z

Nice flying controls! :bat::apple::banana:

SheepMotion by fastpath 2017-12-06T22:05:24Z

I really liked the idea of controlling more than one dog :dog::dog: especially in some of the curves in the maze where the sheep could otherwise get stuck. Though it would be nice to be able to control them more individually and not just follow one of them.

Quite tiresome music and sounds, unfortunately :( maybe some simple environmental sounds would be nice!

Cave of Duty by Zielon 2017-12-05T23:35:54Z

I truly enjoyed this game! Great pacing, mood and connection to the theme :tada: You could really feel the weight on your shoulders! Couldn't say that I understood the logic of the meat-o-meter though, or it's exact correlation with the tribe.

You God Mail by west 2017-12-07T22:36:50Z

Very Bruce Almighty-esque, I like it :sunglasses: I had a hard time understanding how I should answer the prayers, but it was fun figuring out. It would be "fun" if you also had to handle spam emails, hehe.

KEY MASTER by CreamyBacon2 2017-12-25T21:34:47Z

I agree with @prodigalson about an increasing difficulty, seems to always work well

Also, something that might solve both the "looking at your keyboard" issue as well as supporting other keyboard layouts is displaying the physical keyboard in the game and highlighting each active key with the appropriate arrow. Because I'm on vacation and have an excess of creativity I felt like sketching, so here ya'll go :ok_woman:

MemoryPlatformer by wobbleboxx 2017-12-22T23:30:10Z

It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on the signs in the game, because I thought they were an interesting aspect. Since they are often placed at the end of a long hike through the level you have already walked past most of the buttons, meaning that you have some understanding of which buttons are placed where. I find it interesting to first search a level without knowing what to do and then receiving some information that suddenly puts everything in a context. Hope that you'll continue to think about the idea and develop it further! Good work! :tada:

Razza the Gold Shark by Sylver_Kovy 2017-12-23T00:24:16Z

I felt the urge of wanting to dive and rise in the water, especially as it didn't feel like I was collecting any gold because I was just barely touching it. Seeing how sharks and most sea creatures move so smoothly in water I think that the controls should mirror that also. I think you did a great job with the graphics, and making a game in Blender!

The *Oh, poison! Get away! Get away!* voice was hilarious btw :joy:

Super Trader 64 by WildGamut 2017-12-06T23:25:52Z

Wonderful interaction with the bag and the trading! It felt really good and stressful to shuffle through the bag for the last items (although the time limit was a bit unexplained). And as an N64 fan boy I must applaud the blocky style of the game

For me the only major issue was that the trading felt so random. I think there are many interesting mechanics on trading that could be implemented with relative ease. Great work still! :tada:

Ice Cream Island by spaceturtle 2017-12-05T23:45:48Z

I would like to see these birds against the cheep cheep in Super Mario Bros. Wonderful little game! :tada:

Yarn the Kittens by Emilio Segura 2017-12-06T00:00:29Z

Very cute and fun :heart_eyes_cat:

The music made me feel like I was doing something bad though, instead of adding to a cuteness overload :scream_cat:

Glutenous Pacman Runner by FoxFX 2017-12-08T23:51:37Z

A fun clash between two very different genres! :space_invader: I think it would be interesting to make the hunger meter really big and visible, so that it's easier to see the consequence of eating/not eating

Corporate Ladder by ConorOD 2017-12-05T22:50:29Z

Nice office! I liked the idea of "clicking the spreadsheet", but only until my first promotion :pensive: It would be nice if you could instead maybe hack away on the keyboard, open programs, click in menus, fill out forms, etc. all completely random as if you were just a kid pretending to work. I think that the idea of getting good at imitating work is quite interesting

Barbing For Money by Britt Henderson 2017-12-22T22:18:30Z

So... this was great! I actually made a game for **LD36** with my friends based on the same building mechanic (see [my page](https://ldjam.com/users/johnbrynte)) but we struggled to come up with a good use for it in our game. Seeing your game I think that you're really on to something; The feeling of *"Oh, a barb-thingy!"* followed by *"Hm.. so where do I put it.."* is just wonderful.

Still, I failed to see if the barb-stacking affected the game in any way, like with collision or so. So my main suggestion would actually be to make the barbs collide with stuff. As an example I felt like wanting to stack the barbs in order to reach difficult places, like in the image below.

barb.png

PS. Sound design and graphics are spot on :ok_hand:

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

At It Again by johnbrynte 2020-10-10T09:49:46Z

Lessons learned so far: - Make it obvious that you can kill lizards - Explain the loop mechanic or make it more obvious - Also highlight tiles around enemies and perhaps the ship - Only because you describe one thing doesn't mean players automatically will understand the other 10 things in your game - Give the game to wonderful strangers so that you can get great feedback

Thanks for all the kind and honest words! We truly appreciate you all! :rocket:

We are already "at it again" trying to make a full game out of this one! We'll se where it takes us. First we need to spend some time with the other cool games in the jam!

---

@recher Will definitely check out Minit! And "collaborate by yourself" is such a good description.

If you play the game a few more hundred times I'm sure you will encounter yourself in some way or shape.

@lachezar-hubanov Thanks, really appreciate that! Grids, yes, we totally overlooked this one.

@invader Good point! Initially we didn't really plan on having only one player on the field, that came from when we started designing the levels in the last few hours. So in hindsight that would've been a great addition.

At It Again by johnbrynte 2020-10-19T18:42:20Z

@hawkin We appreciate your comment! The rewind mechanic is intended to make the player think more ahead than just a regular tactics game. Initially the mechanic that item pickups are saved between rewinds would play a much bigger role but we ran out of time. Still we made sure that the mechanic had to be used in almost all of the levels! However, maybe we need to think about how it is presented and maybe vary the loop count and length for each level to really make it solid. Cheers!

At It Again by johnbrynte 2020-11-07T15:49:46Z

@hawkin No sorry, no harm done! Haha yeah! Thanks :v:

Re-Peter by Abdul Zakkar 2020-10-06T19:12:13Z

Great visuals and overall mood! I found the physics a bit disturbing at times but that could also be that I tackle the puzzles a bit wrong. As said it has been done before but this is a really nice package :)

Eat your cereals by Harksa 2020-10-06T19:21:21Z

This is perfect. A fantastic take on the theme! You can really feel the despair of a repeating mundane weekday. From the flimsy physics, silly graphics and Windows Movie Maker style "You starved to death" to the Lööp cereals. Perfect 5/5.

Universalis by Hawkin 2020-10-06T19:02:27Z

Very nice aesthetics! I've seen a few of these in the jam but the integration of the sounds creating beautiful music is very cool and original. Good work!

Just wanna share my perfect "stuck in a loop" moment with this fried egg that I created. Beautiful moment. Screenshot from 2020-10-06 20-59-47.png

LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Mishfu Zoo by impiaaa 2024-10-21T21:23:07Z

I think I left it on for almost 2 hours and got 2 thingamobobs! Despite the lack of things to do it actually caught my attention. I was curious to go back to the tab and see how things where going! The way you proposed to play this game is I think the really creative side of this entry, so great work! Hope that you will continue to explore this concept!

Blobby Bridges by Zathnic 2024-10-16T22:47:23Z

Really smart puzzle mechanic, and great puzzles too! I learnt about the undo function when reading the comments. Went back to play again when I found that out, it was a really welcome feature so great design choice there! Amazing idea and fun to see some really challenging puzzles!

I think my only complaint would be the somewhat confusing controls as well as which color is currently selected. Maybe the faces could move or be highlighted in some way, or make the blob highlighted, when a certain blob is active. About the controls I think you could have a simple key map along side a more specific. Maybe something like undo with "Z", switch color with "C" and then the arrow keys would work just fine, while putting some load off the brain.

smolHunt by ping78 2024-10-07T17:09:35Z

Great visuals and creative style! I wanted to use the jump and stealth mechanic more, but I felt the hardest thing was to see the mice in the dark. Loved the meow, It's the smol things that matter. :cat:

Quirky Zats by commanderstitch 2024-10-23T21:00:59Z

Incredibly weird and wonderful aesthetics! With the fourth wall breaking game progression I think it really connects into a coherent mess. The grass texture was maybe a bit too much of a messy mess, with everything blending into it. Really fun and experimental! Great work! 🦵

Apple Snake by johnbrynte 2024-10-07T15:27:21Z

@quasilyte karma farming is totally fine by me  But yeah, maybe more inspiration than evolution. Having an auto movement mode like snake would be fun and hectic though!

Apple Snake by johnbrynte 2024-10-21T20:51:57Z

Thank you all for playing and giving great feedback! :star2: :snake:

@impiaaa I agree, there's really not much challenge in the current state of the game. As others have said the only challenge is understanding how the game even works. I think you're on to something about the graphics not being entirely clear as well. There is an underlying grid, so making the apple graphics follow that grid would probably make things better!

@leckert Fun to hear about the tremble idea! I think that's a great idea, I had something similar in mind. Just needed another 15 minutes

Creatures of the abyss by kumber 2024-10-21T20:42:37Z

Well, this was really scary! I think the dither effect added to the murky feeling and not having full control of the situation. Would be nice to be able to dodge if a fish comes charging at you. Maybe with a recharge timer. It would also be fun to collect some kind of power up to be able to get back on the nasty biters. :fish:

Dust Mates by Zirrrus 2024-10-21T21:18:57Z

In the beginning of the Jam I saw a few comments about how everyone would make a Pikmin clone. But this is the first game I've come across that is inspired by that game. Such a lovely entry! Beautifully crafted with the cute level design, creatures and the cinematics! Just the right amount of problem solving. I justed wish there were more levels. Amazing work, one of my favorites!

Tiny followers by PatBGames 2024-10-07T09:31:22Z

So cute to see all the small creatures bouncing around  I like that you really explored the mechanic in the 2nd level! At first I thought that there was a level design error. Then it got me truly exited to find a solution. Nice work!

Revenge of the Fly by Vodzik 2024-10-24T21:19:27Z

I can't count the number of times I've wondered how it would feel like to be a fly and fly around. Well, here we go! The flimsy flight controls match perfectly how I perceive flies bouncing into roofs and windows. And leaving traces of poop is just the cherry on top. This is exactly how I and also others I now learn, think when they see a fly landing on their food. The humor and craftmanship really shines in this one. Overscoping was definitely worth it this time! :poop: Really great work!

Swarm World War by simex 2024-10-24T21:55:19Z

I found it very funny and gruesome when bodies were rolling from an incident. Such effective visuals in general with so little resources! Very fun and challenging indeed. And I can agree that having the possibility to place the same item multiple times without selecting them again would be nice. Good job! :boom:

gottaBEEthere by Hengen 2024-10-23T20:46:55Z

Even if the physics controls are all over the place, I love this because at the same time it's really sophisticated! There are so many variables in play that could take maybe weeks or months to master. Incredible! :sparkles:

Still, it's quite unforgiving right from the start. I wonder if the max velocity could be tweaked and that maybe the camera could zoom out if you go off screen. And I would definitely choose space bar as the "start" key rather than "dive to your death" W key :stuck_out_tongue:

Scrubby Shrimp by Steven Garberg 2024-10-07T07:34:39Z

Such lovely and coherent design! Having the shrimp rotating really added something to make it more unique. :sparkles: It would be real nice if the shrimp jump/thrust was in the direction of the shrimp. I also felt that when going down I wanted the camera to look down also, to better see where I was going.

Luck of the Draw by Cruise Elroy 2024-10-16T22:11:36Z

Amazing work! So many details that really lifted the game. I loved how the dice would send objects flying and could recoil back at you! I first thought that throwing the dice on existing dies would combine their numbers. From what I understand they only serve as obstacles when throwing the dice, which wasn't really a problem in my opinion. The (fun) randomness of the throwing was there still. All over incredible work with game feel, with both visuals and sound. And a computer opponent on top of that! :game_die:

Tiny Sanctuary by 03gramat 2024-10-21T21:48:12Z

Cozy is the word! It's really nice to see that you worked so much with game feel. I think it shows how much it really matters! Even if this game maybe has no clear goal it's still fun to play around with.

Would've liked to be able to zoom in and maybe tilt the camera a bit. I think it could create some cool views over your society of creatures. Amazing work! :sparkles:

The Princess Ant and the Escape from Terrarium by Tomssuli 2024-10-24T12:35:47Z

I love me some metroidvania entries! After fighting off some Windows "shift" dialogs I ventured through the tunnels. I liked the one hit kill, it really worked well with the fast jump that sent you flying and making everything a bit harder to control. The DNA and mushrooms went over my head unfortunately. But I really liked the rather extensive lore and how it tied in with the upgrades! Great job! :ant:

Flea Patrol by Sviborg 2024-10-16T22:21:44Z

I felt very nostalgic playing this! Must be the physics, the cute graphics and the 16-bit sounds. Such a fun concept controlling the fleas, and it works too! Good job!

Cheesy Escape by Fiiction 2024-10-22T21:23:40Z

Big chonk! Really cool that you could expand on the quite exhausted sokoban genre! Cute and funny too. And great puzzles, actually challenging! :rat: :cheese:

Field Trip by InitialPosition 2024-10-07T12:36:34Z

Incredibly polished :sparkles: Great build up in difficulty! A few levels in I found a tactic to avoid the birds. But the next level I was still outsmarted. Really nice! And very atmospheric music.

Cute Cunies by Bloodbane 2024-10-22T21:55:48Z

Sweet tunes :sunglasses: I felt that the game lacked some challenge though. Getting a highscore sure, but there should probably be some way of failing a level...

... At this point I just left the game running without touching the controls at all, just to see what happened. In like the 8th level, with one "heart" collected, this guy turned up! Now I couldn't proceed without actually doing something. Nice!

Screenshot 2024-10-22 234417.png

What I'm trying to say is that you made everything right! Menu, music, sound, graphics, scene progression, tiny creature movement. But maybe you lost some of the core in the game after making the few first levels. Really good work though on all the good things! :star2:

*PS. I was really annoyed that the sonar was used to shoot things, when it's really used to echolocate :face_palm: But maybe that's just me!*

Bugsies by sbackman 2024-10-16T21:14:08Z

Really cool visuals! Maybe a bit too dark in places, but it also gave a nice mystique around the animals. The controls were a bit finicky at times. It was a bit difficult to understand exactly how the "animal calling" worked. Maybe some kind of basic path finding could for the animals could be benefitial? Good work!

The Best Laid Plans by HexyVexy 2024-10-24T13:36:03Z

Such a polished entry! Really nice controls and animations, and overall game feel. Very atmospheric. A bit dark though, I couldn't really see anything. Maybe I missed something? Despite that I found it real fun! Again, atmospheric. :rat: :new_moon_with_face:

tiny Accident by Rito 2024-10-24T13:47:37Z

Friggin scary! :skull_crossbones: I liked the lens distortion, it made the maze much more difficult and fun. Very effective jump scares! And that comes from someone who doesn't like them in general. Nice job :sunglasses:

I'm Next! by Beeb GameCodeCompany 2024-10-16T22:29:56Z

I really enjoyed the sounds that you made! Even small variations make a huge difference! I though the puzzles were more competent than I first expected. Cute and fun. Great work!

King of the Hill by john-wuller 2024-10-16T23:25:48Z

Great idea with a lot of potential! Maybe it was a bug but I found it real funny when two harvester ants fought over the same package. A bit finicky controls, e.g the panning was not rotated when the camera was, but nice graphics and the idea was clearly shown. Nice! :ant:

Very! Tiny Creatures by Dfyzet 2024-10-16T21:43:21Z

I'm very intrigued by the idea of a game within a petri dish. Such a neat concept! I would've liked the nanobot swarm to be more visible. Maybe the visual feedback would be more effective when you're loosing bots, rather than just showing a number. I almost couldn't stand the sound of the bots  Some cool bot sounds would definitely be more fitting. Awesome visuals though!

Very! Tiny Creatures by Dfyzet 2024-10-21T19:37:41Z

@dfyzet I love the bot-burn effect! No I'm more concerned about the swarm visuals. I feel like the swarm has the same size independent on the robots count? But I might be wrong! :robot: (Btw when someone is nit picking it means you did a great job!)

The Wriggling Path by leckert 2024-10-21T20:12:54Z

Incredible entry! The janky physics really got me hooked. It reminded me somehow about a really old game called Stickman Escape which was a metroid vania that was also really janky, but in a slightly different way. I loved that game! It had a really vast world and you were constantly asking yourself if you were blocked by the janky physics or you just hadn't solved the puzzle. Lovely! Unfortunately got stuck in the same place as *wildcodeplay*.

The Immortals Snails by Dianavi 2024-10-21T20:32:14Z

Simple but nice. Really liked the music and the snail rocket. Great touch with the french snail! :flag_fr: :snail: :rocket:

Battle Dots by nimbushead 2024-10-16T21:58:33Z

A bit more work on the visuals could help convey the spawn cool down and the types of troops. I also felt like the idle bouncing back and forth took a bit too much focus and made it maybe more chaotic than needed. Maybe they could wander about in some semi random pattern instead? Good work though!

Roose Dudes by CaptainPMM 2024-10-24T21:36:06Z

I think you really explored the mechanic thoroughly here! Nice progression and so many variants with relatively few building blocks. It was really cool to see! I always strive to iterate on a game mechanic, but I find it really difficult. So pat yourselves on the back!

Though, I think I might have stumbled on the finish line 🥲 Guess I got too exited. Still had a blast!

Pseudopseudopodia, or amoeba walking simulator by TheLastSlowpoke 2024-10-24T11:34:13Z

So fluid and cool to play with! Even if the demo had no goal it still gives some play time similar to other "real" games in the Jam. So great that you posted this! :star2:

NebuLeet Troopers by quasilyte 2024-10-07T15:51:50Z

Amazing complexity for a Compo game! Really cool and atmospheric. Felt like watching from an old radar screen. It also reminded me a lot of Into the Breach, which I'm really fond of!

The cards was an interesting mechanic, but as stated a bit difficult to grasp. Maybe the actions could be visualized in some way during the fight. Maybe with some icons or similar.

PS. Fun to see that you're writing in Go!

NEUTROKILL by Tacoman 2024-10-16T23:03:12Z

I felt like a glazed doughnut shooting meatballs and beans! :doughnut: I think the zoom should maybe be more automatic rather than a mechanic. Would be cool if there was an alarm when pathogens enter that would point in their direction! Also some smoother movements could really lift the game feel and general mood. Good work!

Bactoria by GiomomoGiovanna 2024-10-24T12:00:44Z

Amazing graphics and game feel! :sparkles:

Tiny Trails by Custodi 2024-10-07T07:22:27Z

Very daring to make a game with a physics based mechanic! I know I'm scared of it  But you really pulled it of nicely! Great that you managed to add several mechanics. I think it really shows in your game how with just a few you can create quite much and varied content. And great introduction and build up of the mechanics as well. Great job!

Rat Game by Pachino55 2024-10-16T23:15:28Z

Loved the level design! It felt coherent and added to the feeling of a small but real journey. Some true Tom & Jerry vibes which was real nostalgic! Yay! :smiley_cat:

PS. I was sad that one mouse/rat killed me. Even more deadly than the cat! What did he have against me?

Jellyfish climb up by Sasha20 2024-10-21T21:40:20Z

Nicely done, feels quite polished! For me the game was a bit too punishing right from the start. If it would start off easier I think you would get more hooked to play for a longer time. Also I think that the game could benefit from having a bit lower gravity on the falling objects. Just to make things a bit bouncier and maybe ease out the chaotic movement. Maybe it would be a bit easier to control. All things considered, great job! :star2:

The shoemakers tiny helper by RallusGames 2024-10-24T14:01:04Z

Such a beautiful and effective tutorial! How impressive that you took the time to do it! At first I thought that it would be nice to see which drawer is open. But then I realized that it was a challenge in itself to remember which drawer contained which shoes. But it could maybe be good to try it. A possible progression would be to have even more drawers to increase the difficulty! For the final levels I'm picturing something like the wand shop in Harry Potter. Great job! :santa:

Gnaw More! by 1finiteloop 2024-10-07T12:59:06Z

86! Fun little game that was easy to pick up! I also made a game about a bug eating apples, so I am biased to like this one

QUACK! by MS_Jonas 2024-10-23T20:28:45Z

Creative idea with the shifting directions! I couldn't really tell if the order of the directions were random or not. Even when you knew/guessed the next direction it was difficult to lay good groundwork for the next turn. I think I was most often just lucky to get great combinations. However, the feeling when you got those combinations was really great! Sweet animations and good game feel!
