There are a lot of angry balls chasing me.

josefnpat 2017-12-05 23:29

This was interesting. I like how switching the switches to solve the puzzle change the entire atmosphere. Nice job!

wetdesertrock 2017-12-06 05:33

@josefnpat, that was the idea. I wanted the game to eventually be so cluttered that you would want to be switching them off. As well as game mechanics, I wanted the more mechanics that were added to be making it feel worse. But that is LD, always missing half the game.

Thanks!

First ld40 game I actually finished, congrats on making it managable. Great mood assisted by the audio.

Had to figure out how to play it though, since there were no instructions on how to run the .love file, you need to get love.exe from here: https://love2d.org/ and then drag the love file on to it.

Good experience... very tense once you near the end but I managed to beat it! The minimal graphics look nice, and I liked the music coming on in parts -- cool effect. Good work!

aman1822 2017-12-07 06:26

Very nice game, i liked the minimilistic art. I would be nice to put the link to the "love engine" along with game link, many of us aren't familliar of it

wetdesertrock 2017-12-08 00:25

@aman1822 Instead I just added direct links to builds for Windows and MacOS. I forgot that my packaging script was in good working order.

eli-delventhal 2017-12-08 04:11

Hmm, on Mac I get what looks like a title screen with some toast on it and then it never goes away. :-/

sparewizard 2017-12-08 04:27

Took a bit to get the game running, had to download the engine, the game, and then drag it onto the engine.

The game was stylish, I liked the environment changing as you did stuff. You could have made the music build up more and more as you flipped switches.

wetdesertrock 2017-12-08 04:52

@eli-delventhal thanks for the catch. It seems like I uploaded the wrong files. Seems like my packager should be improved still.

@sparewizard if you download the updated files (mac/win) they should work for you.

jack-maxwell 2017-12-08 13:22

The graphics are really cool, I love the the puzzle ish gameplay! Good work! Also I fixed up the shop button in my game Tiny Empires, so it is now playable.

commanderstitch 2017-12-10 04:23

YES I GOT IT AHhahahahahahahahaha

grentacular 2017-12-10 21:01

I liked the minimalist vibe. The area was a bit large and I had trouble finding "C" as a result, but I got there eventually. Nice work!

silkworm-sweatshop 2017-12-11 06:05

Cool! Really kept me intrigued. I kinda wanted to continue as it felt like if I only kept flipping switches I'd uncover some hidden truth somehow :P.

tangiblegames 2017-12-11 20:47

Great entry! Music adds to the atmosphere and creates suspense. Minimalist graphics look superb.

shinyogre 2017-12-11 21:01

I definitely like how the switches change the game. The world art was absolutely beautiful, I might open the tmx file and look at the whole thing all at once. I do wonder if an art print of the level would be cool.

If I had to nit pick, I'd say that I couldn't enjoy exploring the world because the enemies were always after me, and very fast. If that kind of tension between fleeing and exploring is what you were going for, then bravo!

My game was made with LOVE as well, if you care to play it: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/crosstalk

wetdesertrock 2017-12-12 00:07

@Shinyogre

Yeah, if I had one recommendation coming out of this LD it is do not use tiled for this type of map. Tiled isn't very optimized for lots of objects.

I'm not sure how the render would look, reason being that my focus was what the player would see at one time. A large render would probably not look super cohesive.

the-dankasaur 2017-12-20 20:04

Great game! I'm pretty harsh when it comes to these entries but this one nailed it for me. Visuals were cohesive and thought out. Music, sounds and atmosphere were great. Added then the double implementation of the theme and solid gameplay makes for an awesome entry! My only few nit-picks about the game are: 1. I'm the same color as the enemies. It didn't really mess me up but it would have been nice to stand out and draw a bit more focus to the player. 2. Navigating was pretty difficult. Now, I understand that finding the switches was the main obstacle of the game. My only concern with this is when you reach very wide open areas, it's hard to have a clue as to where to go.

Other than that, really great game. I enjoyed playing it!

wetdesertrock 2017-12-21 01:57

@the-dankasaur, thanks for your feedback!

Regarding #1 I was actually looking towards doing that when you turned on the color switch. It was just one of those items I kept forgetting to do even though it would take almost no time at all.

johnbrynte 2017-12-22 23:41

I liked that you could use the environment to keep balls away, maybe building on that would be interesting. Mostly I think that making moving around feel more fun would make the game more fun :) Now it got a bit monotonously after a while. Cool design though!

satyre 2017-12-23 20:47

Super interesting and minimalistic game. I had fun letting the followers being eathen by the standing characters. I would like to see the game more polished up in the future! Keep it up!
