Great entry! Music adds to the atmosphere and creates suspense. Minimalist graphics look superb.

Great entry! Music adds to the atmosphere and creates suspense. Minimalist graphics look superb.
Graphics and Audio are perfect. A large game that I would like to play through, but alas don't have time. Text scrolling on click could be made faster. Other than that, awesome!
Hey) At first I thought the balance wasn't perfect, as the game starts slow, and then difficulty goes up waaay too fast. But then I understood that you were right, because here at LD people usually get to play each game once, and for this single session you made a good balance. Player will have plenty of time to understand how the game plays, and then - chaos! Also, it pays to learn the keyboard controls from the start.
Nice entry.
I wish I had more time to hone my skills in this game. Audio was great, and the gameplay is dynamic and matched the theme. And online scores are cool. Overall, a very solid entry.
@alex-bryant @juancarlosgdm @nopogo @goddess
Windows build added! Please, check it out!
@eli-delventhal Sorry if it was offensive, but we actually warned about it in the description. This game's setting is offensive by design, but it wasn't meant as a true-to-life depiction of the penitentiary system in the US or relationships between the population of different ancestry. It is a foreigner's retelling of a criminal drama like "Shot Caller", but without actual drama and taken to the point of absurdity. And no, prisoners aren't forced to murder each other here, these gang members just can't resist the urge to settle accounts with each other.
Got stuck after getting the sword. However, it isn't important. Art style is just fantastic and unique! Thumbs up!
Now that's an innovative concept! I first was terrified that I see something like the terrible "parking simulator", where you have to traverse the level and stop in some spot to complete it... And then I learned about physics and ability to control different objects! Very, very nice. The flow was smooth, I never got lost. I didn't like that I couldn't control some objects in one of the levels, while in the previous/next levels they were interactive. It was odd. The jumping physics could use some tuning, and again they were inconsistent between the levels (for example, the red book). But this entry is really fun to play.
These are some new ideas for a top down shooter! I like the darkening level and the lighting effects when you shoot. Variety in enemies even with obviously limited amount of graphic assets. The only thing I find lacking is the sound of the gunshot when you don't actually hit someone. Thanks for the game!
Finally a game where you can safely pee in the corner. Well, mostly safely.
Well, that was definitely something... Unusual :0 Music sets the tone!
It's a bloody nice entry! Though the concept isn't exactly new, execution was top notch. It's a balanced entry that I just /had/ to complete. I can only complain about collisions (trying to move past the benches, but colliding with them). Other than that - a joy to play and great to look at. Thumbs up!
Voice acting, yay! ;)
Quite a thing. Nice art, though lacks animation during movement through hell. Overall, an unusual, provocative entry, that's great!
Music was great! Bouncing shots mechanic is cool. Graphics are somewhat uneven (different styles don't always mix up well). The most irritating thing was that shots never fly where the mouse cursor is at the moment. After changing controls to WASD everything went smoothly, but these settings would be best made inside the game.
Arrgh! I just wept when I saw that this game is Windows only! :) Please, consider porting to macOS (and Linux too!) for your next Jam! ;)
@mediocremonty Also, any chance you could record a playthrough? :wink:
@sondrian It was also difficult for me to play with x and z / arrow keys. And audio could really help set the atmosphere. But the game fits the theme, and I loved the "it" design!
Well, first of all, thumbs up! This is a great entry. Atmosphere is just right. Hopeless, senseless slaughter, life filled with fear and boredom. It fits the theme perfectly. Sounds of course would be nice, but without sounds it works just as well. Card flipping animation isn't perfect, especially when fast-clicking through it, and maybe a patterned back side would make it easier to understand at a first glance. My first play-through was short and lacked any accomplishments, but on the second try I fought off one attack on our trenches and participated in a trench raid... There is no feeling of accomplishment after playing the game, but that's exactly the point of it, right? Great entry!
Amazing full-featured game. A part of the series! I see what you did there :wink: I like the gameplay and the upgrade system is really well thought-out, it is always a tough solution whether to upgrade or keep some energy! Can't yet beat the final boss, but I will try. The kids also liked it a lot, though they come from a new touch-only generation, and WASD is something alien to them! :laughing:
I love games like this. Minimalistic, difficult, with the ever growing abilities of the character that allow you to discover other parts of the world. This is a game I will probably play again, until I beat it. However, the whole "sacrifice life in exchange for abilities" mechanic doesn't feel like a natural part of the game (altars after sacrifice look rad, btw), because you **must** sacrifice part of your life for abilities, there is no way to beat the game without these sacrifices. Anyway, overall it is a very well done entry (some parts of it rare, even blue, if we use steak cooking terms)! Congrats!
@jlv Yes, key layouts should make player's life difficult, they are also used to control overall difficulty. As for difficulty spikes... Yes, they can happen, we didn't have much time to fine-tune the difficulty curve. 🙈 However, this time we have at least managed to make the first few stages accessible for most players 🤪
@koalaura Yes, sorry about repeating stories, but we have lost a day and a half developing another idea, and then moved to an idea which turned into High Point. Also, the language barrier meant we had to write stories in Russian and then translate, which also added to the development time. Cool you had some fun though!
@gil4 Many thanks! We had fun making stories, and quite a few of them are "spoken from our heart" :smirk: We didn't have enough time to make enough stories though, so it may become a bit repetitive. But who reads the stories on the second try at getting to the top of the leaderboard?
Hey @pl4typus ! Many thanks for your comments. You are right about different ways to serve the same gameplay, it could have been done. What we started with, though, an original idea we had, was born out of rejection of the theme. So, at first we just wanted to make a game where players would spend their life earning currency - holding a button and spending real time of their lives to earn time based score. Not exactly a game, but a statement and, maybe, an art object. And then we started turning this idea into a real game, adding quizzes, QTE events and what not. And on the second day we found out it doesn't actually work. It is not a statement and doesn't look like a good game. So, we had a discussion and had this idea that you saw and played. We didn't have enough time to flesh it out, so made it very simple. And the music was made at the last moment. It's a miracle this game even happened at all. We take your criticism seriously and will try to make a better game next time. :thumbsup_tone1:
@fear-games Hey, thanks for your comment! You are too kind to praise a game entirely made of QTEs, which are usually hated in all games :laughing:
@dioinecail Благодарим за столь лестный отзыв! :handshake:
@oune Thanks a lot!
@popdaddygames Hey, thanks! Would love to play your game, btw, but it's Windows only. And it's local co-op, which just makes it even harder to get enough ratings, I suppose. It takes courage to make a game few people will play during an LD voting period. All the best to you!
@firepit-games Thanks for your comment!
@hangacs Really sorry about that. Purple screen looks like a title screen, but it should have some content... We don't actively use Windows on our dev machines, so compatibility isn't perfect.
I used an auto clicker to cheat... 🙈 Couldn't beat the game anyway!
A very solid entry! Gameplay is good, it is actually fun, challenging but manageable. Art is just what is needed for an LD title, which is all about the gameplay.
Great graphics! Very stylish. Nice background music and fitting sfx. Teleportation mechanic is cool. I had difficulty understanding what impulse my character will have after teleportation, this made playing less enjoyable for me. But this is a good entry!
Very nice entry, I just wish there was another way to restore at least some health between the levels, other than selling the upgrades. It could prolong the suffering of the gladiator on the arena. :wink:
Amazing style. Loved it to death :wink: Fun action-puzzle gameplay. Thanks!
A nice, pretty well balanced LD entry! Great graphics, audio, and gameplay. :star2: :star2: :star2: :star2: :star2:
Pretty pixel art! Upgrades! Action! I like it a lot. :thumbsup:
The music is just so nice! :headphones: Sets the tone of the game perfectly.
What a clever take on the theme... Or not, I don't care, I love to smite the mortals! My final score says it best: leet.png
Excellent at 780! I tried to live a balanced life, and expertly juggled various "medicines" trying to prolong my reign. Cool game! :)
Great entry! Not that fun per se, but it fits the theme and is very challenging. Also, it is complete, and I find it important, even in LD entries.
The game made a great first impression! I got a bit disappointed that there is no way to restore hearts. Basically, game forces you to bet as many hearts as possible at the first stage, then buy everything you can and play onward... Still, the graphics and sound are great!
Played for several days till the vacation ending. Then read about seven days in total and other endings. Began my second session, but the game stuck at day 3 (?) at the word *sadly.* Well, I don't want to play through the first few days again. But the first try felt nice, there was serious tension and I thought about a way to solve the problem, the atmosphere is nice!
Wow, an RTS! Cool! :alien:
Hi Guys! Greetings from a group of 35 something year old mates from Russia/Switzerland. :wink: Any chance you can compile the game for macOS?
@fear-games Thanks! :thumbsup:
@fear-games Cool, I will try it out (tomorrow morning only) and report! :sunglasses:
@fear-games Yes, the game now runs on macOS! Haven't encountered any serious problems yet. :v:
A nice complete game, dark sinister atmosphere achieved using great sound fx and monster design, plenty of action. A solid entry!
Level design allows cheating by shooting enemies one by one. But this won't help beyond wave number 3. And I just couldn't get enough upgrades to survive on later waves. I think the balance is wrong for an LD entry (a game people will play once or twice before moving to a different one they need to rate), but I still liked the game a lot. The graphics are great (I love pixel art), the music fits the action, and overall impression is just great!
At first I was very disappointed by the jump physics. But after playing some more I sort of understood why you chose to do the jump like that. This game was hard, and I wanted to quit several times. But persevered and beat it. Well, I am a lowly accountant now, but still alive! :wink:
The Jam version didn't work for me, but I managed to play an updated one. Let's start with music! It matches the sci-fi setting nicely and adds suspense. Robot designs are great too, and the style of graphics reminds me of Avara, which was a great game at the time. Presentation is great, especially for the first Jam! The gameplay could be so much nicer with better physics. Jumping is floaty and very difficult, maybe it's the low gravity planet or something, but it is not satisfying at all. Running isn't much better than jumping. I believe that in a game about running and jumping these two activities should be fine-tuned. If you can do that, I think players will be able to take on many robots at once with better physics, and it would be lots of fun!
Looks like my notebook doesn't have enough power to run the game. I had slowdowns and several times the character just stuck, not reacting to keyboard or mouse. Anyway, I'd like to praise the art style and graphics! Well done!
@karstenpedersen Can't find the macOS version in an archive, there is only an .exe file.
@ristoretto You can end the game by pressing "Abandon Planet" on the main screen (one with the mothership above the planet). Depending on the number of people you rescued, you will see one of the 6 (six) endings.
@rongefilet Well, yes, having a huge team helps, but at the same time we spent one day out of three discussing our options :laughing:
We had: - Two programmers, - One level/gameplay designer, - Two artists - One unskilled worker (that would be me) who also made sfx +one person who only had time to participate in discussions during the first day
+wife of the above mentioned unskilled worker who made two music tracks (isn't she lovely?).
We are adults (mostly with kids), so the most difficult part was to find time to participate. Oh well... :joy:
@ristoretto All missions combined. Yeah, currently the number of missions is unlimited, and the difficulty is toned down to make it suitable for the jam. And surely there is lots we'd want to fix in case we return to work on the game. Thank you for your feedback!
@joemid Thanks for the review! So glad you liked it. Ah, these loudspeaker announcements, I personally like how they turned out. Exactly what we planned to achieve in terms of atmosphere. And BSG ("Brace for contact!") - that is my second love after Babylon 5.
@maskrosen Thanks! You are so kind :)
@shintaro-kk Well, we rarely have time to add tutorials, but really sorry about that. And making of the sounds was also a challenge with so little time left, I didn't have time to work on equalising.
Surprisingly deep gameplay, fitting fraphics and audio. A great entry!
A nice time-killer with an interesting choice of music :)
@bmacintosh Maybe we'll come up with something. There is a feature of lighting your way, which we didn't do due to time constraints...
@bamallama We could have more variety, but, though it may sound counter-intuitive, we have underestimated ourselves this time. We were absolutely sure we won't have time to do more than two enemies, that's why the code was written in a way, that it accepted only two models. No skins support either. In hindsight, it seems stupid, as everything else in the game is super configurable. We have many varieties of enemy behaviours (sentries, chasers etc.), but just two models. That's why the boss is just the same as regular enemies. Oh well, we'll be smarter next time. :shrug:
@waibiwaibi This time it is especially hard to get others to play our game. We have nice balance stats, but no one plays our game. :( So, @maxgarena made this video in a hope that we'll get some more ratings. :) As for cooperative gameplay and two-player battle mode, well, we could do, we could...
@soarendev Sorry about the rocks :crying_cat_face: I made those, and I accept all responsibility. They are made from the same stuff as the background, and both are out of style, but our only artist, a top notch animator, I must say! [Just check this out](https://www.instagram.com/bogdanduns_art/) was busy with animation of the characters. As for the health bars of the enemies - we have added a health bar of the character at the last moment, because initially we had planned to show health on character/enemy models. Had to scrap that feature sadly.
Thanks for your comments!
Could only craft one thing, maybe there is a bug somewhere? Anyway, the mood is great, audio, cute animations. And the lighting, just what we wanted to do but didn't have time to implement in our own entry. :thumbsup:
Graphics alone are making it a zen-like experience... almost. When the action intensifies, all soothing qualities are lost, and it turns into a story of survival. Nothing new in mechanics, but the art style is enough to make this game stand out. I imagine it becoming a nice game for an iPad :)
Steering missiles was very enjoyable! It gives a sense of control, very cool.
Visual novels are cool. Good decision to have a rather short story - so that players will be able to complete it. And the mood is great. Sadly, the story looks like something from the Russian news :)
Cool! The planning is important if you want to get to the surface with all your gems. A well rounded entry! Awesome!
I wasn't prepared for such a polished game. It is amazing. Art! Gameplay! Balance! Everything is of the highest quality. My only gripe was with the controls, upgrade/battle, and accidental upgrades. However, it was just a minor thing. My god, the graphics you made for your entry! Absolutely mind blowing.
What a great entry! Fully playable, complete game with a balanced, fun gameplay and dynamic soundtrack! Awesome!
Well, technically, it is an achievement, a real multiplayer game! And could be fun with other players to kill. However, in single-player it's just a senseless grind. We always dream of making a multiplayer game for LD, but each time we can not come up with an idea that will allow to solve the problem of too few simultaneous players being online at the same time. You didn't crack that one too. Anyway, thumbs up for trying! Graphics are high quality, atmosphere is nice, and overall it's a solid entry, but one which is hard to love. :)
@budark Also, if my feedback seemed harsh, it wasn't meant to be. It is a bold entry, because it has a multiplayer, which is super hard to make (and make it work) for LD. Did you have some code you could reuse?
Just a great entry! A tad smaller locations would indeed help understand where the player is. Very nice character animations, and the death animation is superb.
Super soundtrack! Shotgun ftw! Missiles should've been able to destriy the terrain too, and have worse auto aim, that could lead to more chaos and gameplay variety :)
RNG was a bit harsh to me :) I think it's a nice mechanic, could be a great level-based puzzle game, great on mobile.
It was so hard to understand what tool to use and when... And then it was even harder to manage switching. Cool game!
Nice entry, and fits the theme well! I couldn't make it to the bottom of the trench, got eaten by the... snarks? somewhere between 500 and 600 meters. For LD, it could be a little bit shorter or include a checkpoint or two :)
The second stage was sooooooo difficult for me. What a story though!!! A 5 star entry.
@brad-make-games And it's a Compo entry! Wow.
Complex controls were a bit frustrating (Q? E? LMB? RMB?), but the rest is great! Minimalist graphics are so stylish, love these haircuts! Monsters are cool too. It was enjoyable to learn how all weapon types work. Overall, a very stylish entry. Thanks!
To everyone who left comments and/or rated our game: Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
@alpacalypse Thank you for you kind words, and you rating, it is all really appreciated! We are so happy to get a rating this time :)
@yopox Once you make something for PlayDate, please, share with us too!
@aligator You are awesome!
@digital-bacon Thank you so much!
Devilishly difficult! Fun game, the only bad thing is the shop experience, just did not have a single pause to buy anything. All weapons are different and fun to use. Nice game!
Played it on the web. I think it shows promise, juts needs some tweaks. It may be difficult to get the job (E doesn't work even if you are close to a building sometimes), and the city map is tiny. There is potential in the mechanic of trying to remember where each address is positioned and finding a route to that destination.
Arrgh! Just love everythin' related to pirates! And the gameplay is solid!
Cool! Sense of exploration, thrill of battles and a captivating story! Well, perfectly suitable for an LD entry :)
Couldn't figure out how to obtain items to deliver, but nevertheless earned some coins and purchased some upgrades. Some battles had dragons mysteriously healing instead of receiving damage from my attacks. Nice that castles are tall and can be seen from afar, no need for a minimap.
Difficult to play in a browser due to lags, and also difficult to aim the gun on a trackpad. A promising concept, would love to play a full game.
Now now, that's a game I'd like to beat. Music, graphics, sounds, physics - everything adds to that great atmosphere. A great entry!
If Carmageddon had delivery missions... A good entry!
Cool take on the theme! Atmosphere is definitely there. Making all graphics either hand drawn illustrations or pixel art instead of mixing various styles and scale of objects would really help.
Very good! Beat the game, had fun, like gameplay and art. I think it deserves a good score for innovation. Also fits the theme. Thanks!
Nice UI graphics! Good music. Well done 3d models. Couldn't deliver anything, but spent some time driving around town.
Learning curve is a bit steep, but other than that - it is a fun little game!
Adrenaline inducing stuff. Nicely done! A bit too difficult for me :)
Oh well... It's a great game! If you want, you can check out our take on the same concept of human collection :)
@edgarlord Hey, attach a video/photos etc.! We'd be happy to have a look at your game. Maybe you could scan the art and rules, it would become a real entry ;)
