LD33 — You are the Monster

Monster Possession by Clurect 2015-08-25T00:00:00

Nice concept bro, I'd sure play more if there were some other levels or something like that.

Autobahn Monster by Indyo 2015-08-25T18:16:00

Nice idea, rage meter makes you think instead of spamming lasers like most of the similar genre games would expect you to. Would play more if there were more levels, you could develop the idea further imo. Good job.

Monstaaaaar! by ilikescifi 2015-08-24T23:40:00

Solid entry. Love the gameplay concept, only thing I'd work on a bit more is controls - sometimes the cursor just skips some tiles when you're drawing fast. Didn't reflect it in the scores of course, but, imo, a game with a time limit should respond good enough on high speeds. Everything else is really nice though, great job guys.

Kerberos by lcarpentier 2015-08-26T11:05:00

Pretty fun, though most of the game (ending phase spams a bit more souls) is pretty easy as standing in the top center allows you to be in range for most souls without moving much. Nice job, like the three heads/three buttons concept. And hilarious sound on capture. :D

Life as a monster inside a human by mat1er 2015-08-24T11:26:00

Can't rate it high overall, but giving you my first 5 for the theme, as "monstrous reality" topic is a lot more important than the usual monsters from stories stuff in my opinion. Stay strong, I'm sure you'll find your happiness. :)

Web Spinner by APC 2015-08-26T08:33:00

Pretty innovative mechanics, like both the gameplay and graphics. Controls are fine with me, though first time I died while only getting used to the game's feel, I'd increase first session's time limit.

Johnny Yeti's Pro Skiing by dopplerdefekt 2015-08-24T23:17:00

Chrome says the file is malicious and doesn't let me unblock it for some reason. :/

Within by Andrew Deem 2015-08-25T00:57:00

Love the concept, and "monsters within" imo is the best we could get out of the otherwise quite boring and generic theme. Good job.

EyeShot by parDal 2015-08-29T10:54:00

Great way to make a reverse boss battle. And I loved the music.

Is That Me? by Gil4 2015-08-24T10:42:00

The controls might be the reason, IndigoWolf, as linear damping isn't at 1.0, and the way force is applied to the body you can't stop right the moment you release the button. That makes it more interesting than simple "move at constant speed while pressing the button, instantly stop moving when you release it".

And, well, I did want it to be hardcore, but I may have made it a bit too difficult for someone unacquainted with the genre - I had to work on some runners before, so for me they're all kinda easy now. Anyone feeling it's too difficult - don't feel bad, the problem is most likely my current vision of runners, not your skill.

Is That Me? by Gil4 2015-08-24T11:06:00

vegapomme27, could you specify what windows etc you're using? I've tested quite a lot on both win 7 and win 8 laptops, no crashes occured. Tried to reproduce the crash with different scores conditions, couldn't though. Maybe you're beating your highscore, but the folder you're putting your game into doesn't let it to overwrite the highscore.txt file?

Is That Me? by Gil4 2015-08-24T12:00:00

> It wasn't particularly suited to the theme imo.

To be honest, I just didn't like the theme to begin with. You know, making a game with a monster as the protagonist is possible within any theme (aside from those specifying the protagonist as something completely different), so this one felt like a waste. That's why I decided to show my own view on who the real monsters are - humans. Not saying your opinion is wrong, just clarifying why I decided to get a bit different perspective than others.

And the controls are intended that way to make gameplay a bit different from the usual runners stuff.

Thanks for the reviews, everyone! It's my first LD, so feedback is much appreciated. :)

Is That Me? by Gil4 2015-08-24T12:02:00

AnaglyphCoding, that's really strange, never had any problems with Corona-made games and antiviruses. ._.

Is That Me? by Gil4 2015-08-24T19:54:00

Thanks for the feedbacks guys, this's a great learning experience for me as a game designer.

> I noticed that once I reached over 100 points the counter started over at 1. Is this a bug?

Hmm, looks like it is, and quite a peculiar one, as I can't reproduce it. After getting that score myself I even tried setting starting values at 99 for more extensive testing. And, to be honest, looking at the simple code beyond the score counter I find this bug even more strange than I thought.

As for the playing area - it was my first time using Corona SDK for the desktop game (as this's quite a new feature), and I wasn't sure I should mess with different resolutions in the short timeframe I had to make the game. So I just went with the smallest resolution that should be supported on all the PCs nowadays. Should've went for 960x720, I guess, but with the pixel art usage plans I had I wanted something more retro.

Is That Me? by Gil4 2015-08-25T07:03:00

Thanks everyone, the way movement works looks like the most controversial thing once again.

@Andrew Deem

Is ok, that "1" can be rather tricky. :D

Maze Monster by texus 2015-08-25T21:58:00

Love SFML too, great job using it. Also randomizer is nice, adds to replayability a lot.

Royal Flesh by jcsirron 2015-08-25T00:43:00

>Couldn't run it, Window opens and then gives a Visual C++ Runtime Error.

Same for me. :(

Meet the Monsta by Schrodinger Games 2015-08-24T23:50:00

Could you make an alternative link for the windows download, guys? Second game hosted on onedrive, second download chrome blocks as malicious for me without any option to manually unblock it. Looks like chrome hates onedrive, mine at least. :(

You are the munchster! by Fanatrick 2015-08-26T12:13:00

Wouldn't say the game is hard, just uses not that obvious mechanics, but for me figuring them out was part of the fun, nicely done.

Beast Mode by madcapacity 2015-08-26T11:29:00

Hilarious concept, lifting game making you train your fingers.

The Real MVP by cheapmecha 2015-08-24T23:45:00

Why not for Chrome? Worked fine for me.
Just curious: at one point an enemy ran onto my head and couldn't get out of that "trap", is that an intended feature? :D I wonder if it's possible to build a tower of enemies on your head. Anyways, good job.

Shark Swimulator by Karai17 2015-08-26T11:37:00

"Well, at least you were delicious", haha.

Zero NPCs by samcoy 2015-08-25T21:46:00

I love the concept with enemies mirroring whatever you do, but in different ways for different types of enemies. Good job dude.

PONY! by Phil Strahl 2015-08-26T11:01:00

Would love it to be a bit harder (with enemies trying to hurt you or something like that), but really solid entry overall, from concept to sound. Also an extended edition could be nice.

The Next Step by Somnium 2015-08-25T18:27:00

Nice concept, I'd even turn it into a several levels/chapters/missions edition later on if I were you. A bit of polishing on the movement/overall speed wouldn't hurt, but I liked it the way it is as well. Making it faster would turn it into stealth action, but this speed could be used too for more of a stealthy game, maybe with seamless movement though with no tiles.

Free Hugs Kraken by crucknuk 2015-08-28T20:38:00

Well made, free hugs Kraken is brilliant even as a standalone concept. :D

Vermy The Vomiting Zombie by Gray Sullivan 2015-08-24T09:29:00

Boblar's Ascension by AzureAspect 2015-08-24T22:47:00

Sorry bro, OpenAL32.dll missing. I've developed with SFML two years ago, iirc it's quite easy to include stuff like this .dll into the project folder. I recommend you test it on some PC with no special software for game development installed to see most of the .dlls you should include, then you can update your submission with those (the rules allow it anyways).

Mangiato by Acerio 2015-08-26T11:50:00

Pretty easy for a player experienced with platformers, but was fun nevertheless. Oh, and that level with "which way" start - checkpoint is seen right from the beginning and I expected the end of level to be in the opposite direction. Was that a double prediction by you or just didn't want to use that twist? :D

SPACE JUNK by pixelgriffin 2015-08-24T23:13:00

A Java exception has occured. :( Was looking forward looking at the comments, oh well.

SPACE JUNK by pixelgriffin 2015-08-24T23:33:00

Yeah, pixelgriffin, it was extracted, but I remembered I had to use java 1.6 for something else, so switching to 1.7 helped. Good job with the game, I love scroll shooters like this (well, this one isn't exactly "scroll"-ish, but you know what I mean). And it's also one of the most funny ones, I guess you intended it to place high in the humor category. :D

Monster Free by Realize2D 2015-08-26T11:21:00

One of those concepts that may seem too simple, but turn out to be enjoyable when you start playing anyways, nice job.

Minotaur by BeamKirby 2015-08-25T00:04:00

Solid entry, really pleasant gameplay.

The Pit by Fatal. 2015-08-24T23:15:00

Pretty fun, but I was wondering - was it intended for enemies to sometimes randomly appear that close to you?

The Legend of Monsters by Eingya 2015-08-26T11:17:00

Not a fan of game mechanics like this (gets tedious too fast imo), but that's a matter of taste, otherwise really solid on every front, great job.

Fear of the Dark by JamesTanm 2015-08-25T00:20:00

Gives fatal error when all the lives end, pretty fun overall though, good job bro.

Abduction by SudoDave 2015-08-24T18:51:00

Sorry bro, couldn't run. Win 7, java 1.7, nothing happens when I start it.

Abnormal slime by lolfrad 2015-08-24T10:50:00

Yep, couldn't run unfortunately, windows 8 if it matters.
"There should be 'AbnormalSlime_Data'
folder next to the executable"

Tales of the Memory Dragon by raducumiczzz 2015-08-25T00:52:00

Fun gameplay concept, nice graphics and audio, solid game.
Oh, and one thing - when there're two birds of the same color on the screen, I think the first one to get obliterated should be the one closer to the dragon heads (or both at the same time, though that'd make it easier), but not the farther one.

Monstrous by mceier 2015-08-24T18:39:00

Meh, what a great timing for my xubuntu to die. -_-

Bush Man by willchil 2015-08-24T23:26:00

Nice, one of the most fun things gameplay-wise I've seen yet.

LD39 — Running out of Power

Running Low by SelfTitled 2017-08-03T16:58:47Z

Finished on my second try (first ending with an alien killing me right off the bat :D), dunno if I was just lucky to have met 2 aliens once, but that's how it went. I think it'd be cool if they were following you 'till you used some additional ability, that'd allow you to add more of those on the map to make the gameplay more dynamic. Overall I liked Running Low the way it is though, it reminds me of some turn-based top-down rogue-lites I like, it's cool that you were able to re-create the atmosphere and feel of those games. :) Great job!

Fish-Boy by retr0verse 2017-08-03T21:29:02Z

Ha, another platformer and Lua fan, neat. I like your how your game feels, and while it lacks variety with the mechanics, I guess that could be said about most games done in just 48/72 hours. The graphics are actually quite good for a jam as well, and the sounds fit in nicely. Good job!

Bot Bot Wars by woodenrabbit 2017-08-03T16:07:01Z

The concept seems fun and unique. Didn't get all the details of how to play it either though, sadly. I don't even need a tutorial, it's a jam, but I'd love reading a bit of a longer description here instead. :P Graphics and sound are pleasant though, props for that.

Rat Hole City by MrChippy 2017-08-05T16:04:12Z

Ha, I'm a fan of line art when it comes to jams and stuff, so special props for that. The gameplay felt real smooth and polished as well, and the audio was making the experience a lot more proper. I think the game is actually pretty finished as is, but it could be expanded into something longer and bigger should you decide to work on it some more. I'd play a bigger version, personally. :) Great job!

Decarathon by TurbotFish 2017-08-05T16:45:40Z

Nicely designed game you have here, a lot of attention to details that makes me smile. :) I too think that the marathons could be a bit shorter, but I don't have anything against button smashers personally so that's more of a game design perspective here. Plus the overall concept of an action-ish resource management game is neat by default. Thanks for the fun run and good job!

Blasphemy! by FelixMcFelix 2017-08-03T11:19:24Z

A cool and polished entry, a second pico8 one I see and like right off the bat. It's pretty finished as is, so the only things I'd change are:

1. Only cling to the wall when you're pressing a corresponding direction button, since the character gets "stuck" to the wall a tad too often for a game where you have a timer running out for each level.

2. Make the "game over" scenes faster, or even remove them altogether (even though I liked the messages) so that the player dying around the start of a level a lot wouldn't have to spend half his time there getting dragged out of the flow this game is great at setting up. That said, I didn't get past the early level with the conveyor belts due to (1) being a tad too frustrating for me to cope with, and as such I'm not sure if this was more of an architecture decision to get everything on a level to its default state in an easier manner of reloading it from scratch while being on a retry scene, so of course I'm not aware if that'd be an adequate decision on your part.

All in all, I definitely liked the game if I bothered to write all this and annoy you with my opinion, thanks for making it and well done!

Tesla Siblings by Linky439 2017-08-05T15:52:17Z

As someone who liked Dr. Mario back in the day, I was glad to play this. A solid and polished entry with all the little details making the game feel finished. The alt-f4 thing was a funny surprise, "no you're not leaving". :D Sad I found out about it a tad too late, but it was playable in a small screen anyways, so whatever, I enjoyed it a lot. Thanks and great job!

Ministry of Synthesis by impbox 2017-08-03T12:03:08Z

An interesting puzzle-platformer that, as others have mentioned, gets a tad too difficult with time, at least for non-enthusiasts. That said, I liked the concept of messing with the signals and the platformer bit was making the game more dynamic. The graphics and audio combine into a nice final touch for the mood of the game. The only thing I'd change is how the wires are getting connected to the top/bottom ports on the same side, it felt annoying when I was replacing one wire with the other from time to time, but a) this's just a minor gripe, and b) I'm not sure how I'd change it myself, so I'm mostly providing some food for thought here, I guess. A solid entry, well done!

Zombies 'n Kebabs by alaah 2017-08-04T15:58:40Z

Heya, thanks for the thorough write-up on our game, it was really fun to read even when I wasn't agreeing with some details.

Having voted "yes" on your strawpoll I felt inclined to make a list of the bugs and stuff I noticed so that it was easier for you to make a full version should you decide to do it. Still not entirely sure if the "delight and admiration" finale of your comment was sarcastic or not, but even if it was I would still be glad to see this project come to life in a finished form (post length is my proof). Mind you, I've never watched MLP/played GnG, so if some of these are an intentional reference, please ignore my blabbering and forgive my overall verbosity.

* The animation spritesheet seems to have an error in it, or maybe the options for it in the code do. In some of the running frames the rightest column or two of pixels seem to be cut and appear on the left of the sprite instead. As you probably know, that usually happens when the width of the frame isn't correctly passed to the engine for one reason or another. * The hat disappears immediately when you're damaged while on the ground, but doesn't when you're damaged while in the air - it does disappear correctly after you land though. * I've played both versions for 30+ minutes to rate this fairly, and while you say that enemies damaging you during their spawn is fixed I've found that to only be the case with the zombies in v2: kebabs are still spawning and instantly killing me in v2 just like in v1. It makes sense since their spawn speed is seemingly a lot higher, I'd just make them appear in the outer thirds of the screen only personally. * Several times while running in place (into the grave) the jump wasn't recognizing the horizontal movement buttons being pressed. Couldn't reproduce it perfectly though. * Probably intentional from GnG, but the inability to move horizontally while falling felt a tad weird. * That leads me to another point, even if it's intentional, that makes the first portals pair and the higher platform they lead to useless 'cause of inefficiency: if you could land to the right of the grave that comes right after by simply falling diagonally there and not jumping, that whole platform would be a neat alternate pathway to avoid unfavorable zombie spawns in the beginning. As it stands though, the top path requires 3 "jumps" (portal usage included, which I'd just make not expend any energy personally), while the bottom one only needs 1 unless you're jumping over some zombie ponies. From my experience though if you're being fast, there's no need to jump over anything but the grave there. * Another interesting tidbit about the top path - I had a strange bug of falling through the ground after jumping from the top platform, which makes that route (unintentionally) even worth. * While falling into the river without a jump doesn't trigger the post-river check-point, jumping into it (and dying around the middle of the river as a result) does trigger it. * The boss (if the pony guarded by the kebabs was it) would be a lot easier to recognize if it had a distinct recolor (or something better, but recolor is the easiest to do while in a tight compo environment), I had to spend a few minutes to figure out that this was basically the end of the level and the enemy wasn't just a powered-up edition of a zombie. * As a result of not realizing who's the boss immediately, I've ran all the way to right several times and tried overcoming the invisible wall of the world by jumping: I actually could jump over it to make most of the screen go black and die a few seconds later, imho it should be unpassable even with a jump to cause less confusion - still not sure if it was just a bug or the actual end of the level.

That said, I really liked the controls of the game, the cute and well done for the limited time you had pixel art, suitable audio and a fun setting. Great job and good luck with the full version!

P. S. You can add me on Discord if you wanna get some responses to your own comment, some clarifications of the bugs mentioned or just chat.

HackBot by gene-z 2017-08-03T11:26:50Z

Interesting core mechanic of a "bait them out"-runner type of a game, I like the concept. Getting through level 2 was indeed too hard, mainly because the guy at the serve kept ignoring me and didn't want to move from his position like he did in your youtube video. Dunno if that was a bug or if I was doing it wrong somehow, or maybe there's an attack function I couldn't find, haha. It's a fun game and could easily be ported to mobile considering pretty simple control scheme should you wanna do it, good job!

Powercharge by Ferminho 2017-08-03T21:44:14Z

One of the best takes on the theme I've seen, and also bonus points from me for quite some nostalgia you've awoken within me. :) The gameplay is simple but I can't see it done any other way with the concept behind it, the sfx fits well, as for the graphics I woulda went for a whole black-and-white theme personally, but the way you did it works as well. Thanks for the feels and well done!

Exile by yves 2017-08-03T11:37:48Z

Cool graphics style, interesting main hero weapon, sounds complimenting overall game mood, I like it. The strong and weak phases make up an interesting dual-phased gameplay and go for an interesting theme interpretation of "What exactly happens when the power runs out? Do you die or do you simply change?", just great. A solid entry, especially for compo. Well done!

Sky Sea by Zeriver 2017-08-05T14:17:35Z

Really nice, I'd love to play a finished version of it with a lot of paths/endings. The graphics made the experience even more enjoyable, as did the sound. I'd suggest making the plus and minus signs a bit different though, was testing on a small screen and I had to look closer when I wasn't sure of what the option would entail (although it was obvious in most cases, of course). That said, if my only gripe is a font choice in only a single use case, the game is definitely a success. :) Can easily see it being ported to mobile btw, there even was a similar in terms of concept game that got pretty popular last year. Well done!

Jetpack Miner by digitaldude555 2017-08-02T19:33:23Z

A nice entry, maybe not my type of a game since I couldn't get that far even though I wanted to, but overall I like the concept and would play it more if there was a lower difficulty mode or something. Even a bit more starting energy would suffice to get beyond the second ring of asteroids. Good job, keep it up!

The Blind Date by dos 2017-08-05T14:35:04Z

The best voice acting in the whole LD, I think. Not that I saw too many entries with it, but still. :D The gameplay was an interesting idea to the overall concept, although a bit laggy on my potato laptop, which made it unnecessarily hard. Funnily enough, only the drawing recognition part was freezing from time to time, once/twice per drawing phase, was perfectly smooth aside from that. But I know that jams don't allow you to optimize the code as much as you'd want to, so this's more of a future reference in case you decide to expand on the concept and make a bigger game out of it. Cheers for using Allegro btw. Good luck and well done!

The Sorcerer's Apprentice by donvermo 2017-08-02T21:20:30Z

Great job for a last 24h submission, even has a wall jump, a mechanic I really like in platformers, props for that. :) Also cute minimalistic graphics, wish I could see a polished version done in 48/72 hours. Hoping to see more stuff from ya in the coming jams!

BRAINZ ARE POWER by iovorobiev 2017-08-04T17:13:23Z

Having tinkered with a vampire take on the theme I like seeing someone else use the zombie approach instead. :) The gameplay is pretty fun as it is, but imo you could make a mobile port to make it truly shine. Refine the graphics, make more enemies, maybe add some abilities for the zombies to use (with appropriate cooldowns) and it'd be a bomb. Great job!

Robots from 1991 by dminsky 2017-08-02T21:05:44Z

Pleasantly surprised to find a shooter among this jam's submissions. Also glad not to be the only one going for the reverse understanding of the theme with making your opponents "run out of power" instead. Art reminds me of Doom, haha. The sounds were pleasant and setting up the mood. Guess it's not *too* innovative, but I enjoyed playing it nevertheless. Great job!

BATTLE BOIS by Valmay 2017-08-02T20:35:14Z

Funny game, reminds me of Pikmin a lot, wonder if that was an inspiration for you. Cute graphics, pretty innovative gameplay (at the very least among other games made for this game jam), solid entry. Well done!

MotherBoard by nikrt 2017-08-02T13:43:40Z

Cool take on the theme. Also the funniest entry I've seen thus far, and in a compo, not even jam, haha. The gameplay is simple, but in a satisfying way; ctrl+alt+del combo-bomb idea is pretty innovative as well. Good job!

Escape! by Damoy 2017-08-02T10:59:21Z

Couldn't run, sadly. "A Java Exception has occurred" it says.

Power Crystals by chispaLBC 2017-08-03T07:45:37Z

Cool entry, addictive and fun, had me going at it for a while. Good example of how simple doesn't equate simplistic. Graphics are neat and complement the game's overall style (props for evil spirits reminding of a Pokemon Gastly :3). I'd even port it to mobile if I were you, some polishing, maybe making it easier for mobile audience and it'd have shot at becoming a popular clicker imo. Good job!

Plug Me by hav24 2017-08-05T17:06:11Z

Probably the best game I've played in this LD, amazing job. While graphics and sounds are awesome, I especially liked the core mechanics and level design. Has all the chances to win it all, well done!

The Magical Substance: Coffee by FunkyHippo 2017-08-04T17:29:51Z

A funny meta concept of the game, neat. 45% on my first try, although I had no idea you can carry two at once either, 68% on the second try when I realized that. Nice pixel art, funny sounds making it feel more realistic and fun gameplay. A solid 4, well done!

Roboy Awakening by Arden 2017-08-02T12:40:43Z

Great entry, love it as a Metroidvania fan. I guess it could use a bit more obstacles or even enemies, but the overall vibe is just so Metroid-ish, 5/5 for mood. :3

Manual Mech by Mikeliosus 2017-08-02T10:18:21Z

Awesome idea, among the best in terms of theme I've seen so far. Player controls take quite a bit of getting used to, but once you're able to press all the buttons instinctively, without thinking it through, the amount of enjoyment you feel skyrockets. Took me an hour to finish, but it was hella worth it.

Desert Rush by Taras 2017-08-02T15:54:08Z

An interesting take on the theme, and a rare one based on the games I've seen by now, props for that. Funnily enough, reminds me of several theme candidates for this LD at the same time - "You are alone", "Protect it", "Moving fortress" etc. The movement is a tad clunky, but the overall pace and the difficulty feel like they're spot on. Well done!

Dark Power by Rebane 2017-08-02T21:39:03Z

One of the best games I've played today: a bit unpolished, but it's great for a jam entry - interesting and unique take on the theme, addictive mechanics, good combination of art and sound; would definitely play more if there was a "full" version. Great job!

uRUNium by yopox 2017-08-05T16:22:14Z

Awesome, one of the most finished games in the whole jam from what I've seen. Can't even say what I like more in particular, every part was cool in a way. My only gripe would be the way I'm feeling the jump works: you know how in different platformers you can jump from basically the last pixel of the edge in one game while you can't jump the moment a small part of your character is up in the air, off the edge in the other game? Those are extremes, but, well, I personally prefer the first way if I were to choose and here I was sometimes feeling like I become unable to jump a little bit too early. That said, I haven't played for hours so maybe it was just my imagination acting up, or maybe it was intentional and I was simply not the (sub-) target audience, so yeah, take my words with a bit of salt. :) All in all, it's an amazingly finished game for a jam, one I feel has the chances to get to the top of the leaderboard in the end. Well done!

The Quest for the Mighty Battery Charger by Solah 2017-08-04T12:01:36Z

Nice, love the GB/GBC/GBA feels, was playing those games a lot at some point. :) The game is a tad short, but I guess it's cool in a way, got to the boss and experienced it all thanks to that. The controls were fluid enough, the graphics/sound reminiscent of the good old days, and the gameplay pretty fun. Good job there!

Low Battery by Battle Buddy 2017-08-05T15:01:12Z

Awesome, one of the best games in terms of mood. Just a bit of text and good sounds and the atmosphere was real. Should you decide to make a bigger quest out of it, I'd suggest testing with more of a brute-force approach - while I easily finished the game on my second try knowing where to go, it was quite hard to finish in time on my first time. Oh, and another small thing, it's not always obvious from which side you can interact with some objects, but that's not that important, more of a minor annoyance. Well done, you created the most atmospheric game out of all I've rated by now.

Neon Knights: Mech Fighter by Srolfe657 2017-08-02T20:02:01Z

A pretty fun game for 2 players, I'd change the attack mechanics a bit to be more responsive but I liked your approach, plus a mech fighting game is neat by default. :P Good job!

Little Light by Qu4k 2017-08-02T10:45:42Z

A pleasant platformer with a cool high-speed character that's relatively hard to control (in a good way), glad I've tried it. The atmosphere and visuals were also nice. Well done.

Imperium by Studio 310 2017-08-02T12:57:29Z

An interesting concept, I like games like this one, felt a little too easy but I guess it's just about right for a jam game, can't expect tons of moves/combos designed, programmed AND balanced in just 72 hours. Fun, humorous, pleasant bgm, good job, guys.

In Battery We Trust by PGDevPatryk 2017-08-02T10:37:25Z

Love the mood of the game, good job, guys. Reminds me of Hotline Miami, and while I'm not a fan of the genre, this game seems like it could be a solid successor to the aforementioned game with a horror-ish twist.

Big Mommy is Watching (Over) You! by Epono 2017-08-04T18:05:34Z

Cool stuff, graphics and sounds suit the game well, the concept is pretty unique and funny (especially liked the necessity to call mom), my only gripe would be the maze structure of the game, it's too "hard", but not hard as in challenging or difficult, more like annoying, since all it really imposes on you is traversing all the way back when you guessed wrong and ended up at a dead end. That aside, a great jam game, well done!

Lightbringer by Hugo Damiao 2017-08-03T11:02:31Z

Couldn't test it that much, sadly, the camera goes around way too fast and sometimes on its own for some reason, but the music and the graphics are cool, even great for a jam.

THE STORY ABOUT THE ROBOT THAT WAS ON LEVEL 1 WHEN SOMETHING HAPPENED by Mesuko 2017-08-02T21:32:47Z

It was kinda hard to get used to jumping nuances, but it's a cute entry, plus the first 3D platformer I've played, solid job. Bonus points in humor for "don't leave", keep on making cool stuff and you'll see no one even wants to. :)

Buck and Flamy : An Unholy Row by Bragou 2017-08-05T15:40:51Z

A polished multiplayer game, we really liked it. Graphics are great (gba nostalgy, haha), sound is suiting, the gameplay is fun, it's an incredibly solid entry for a jam. I guess the balance is favorably skewed towards Buck, but balance issues are pretty much the norm for the jams. Good job and thanks, it was really fun to test!

Torch Boy by FloBar 2017-08-02T21:13:51Z

A solid entry, albeit a bit too short, second game I finish in 2-3 minutes during this LD. Guess it's fine for the jam though, less gameplay, but more thinking put into making it, right? The graphics and art are combining pretty well into a neat old-school entry with an interesting take on the theme and core mechanics. Good job!

Power of life by OrionK 2017-08-02T16:07:00Z

Quite a neat puzzle-ish platformer, good core mechanics concept and truly different levels make for an enjoyable experience. Well done!

Be The President by MrSerp 2017-08-02T19:44:53Z

Ha, fun and afaik unique take on the theme, made me smile several times. After a normal playthrough went for a random choice one out of curiosity and got a George Washington rank with 3/4 stats max/close to it, I think you nailed how presidential work is done, haha. Good job, dude.

Hungry Harry's Climb by PBG 2017-08-03T07:54:20Z

Love the simple yet well-thought-out design, dude! After reading your profile I also got interested in Pico8, so special props from me for using it. Good intuitive controls and mechanics. It's among the games I liked the most this time around, especially among compo ones, well done!

Welcome to the Shitshow by MattJx3T 2017-08-02T19:17:39Z

This's a... peculiar entry, in a good way too, I'm honestly glad to see something less gung-ho about being overly serious and competitive. Pretty sure you had fun making it. Overall I'd even play it some more for fun if the "rounds" were shorter, I could stare at the screen doing nothing for a minute or two, especially when the spinner got stuck in the middle bouncing horizontally from left to right for almost the whole round, haha. Personally, I think the mechanic could be worthwhile to use in a mobile game as a form of "idle clicker" with shorter iterations. Good job and thanks, the game made me relax after a long day. :)

3eV by Naarakah 2017-08-05T17:11:31Z

A fun concept, haha. With graphics revamped this game could shine quite a lot more though. Enjoyed testing it, thanks and good job!

VamBot by ModalModule 2017-08-03T21:19:20Z

Oh hey, a fellow vambot creator, was glad to see someone else come up with the idea. :) Good job there with your first LD and published game! The gameplay is a bit repetitive, I'd just add different kinds of enemies to both increase the difficulty and add variety, but I know that it's hard to do in just 30 hours, especially when it's your first "marathon". Audio was neat as well, and graphics, while simple, were all done in one style unlike some other games that go for discrete pieces quality over unified styling, so props for that as well. Keep on working, you have ideas that're worth it!

Cell Out! by Rulrite 2017-08-02T11:20:13Z

Awesome game! Really like its graphics, puzzle mechanics and level design. Finished it in several minutes though, could use more levels, but considering jam time restrictions and the quality of levels that are included I consider it pretty good as is.

LD42 — Running out of space

CRAMMM: Totally Accurate Studying Simulator by tuism 2018-08-14T23:33:56Z

Nice concept and theme interpretation, really like it.

While I didn't enjoy stuff like "Trumpology" due to not following "trending topics and news", it's an enjoyable game overall and I consider it quite innovative, especially within this jam. Everything is polished really well, feels finished and I could easily see this ported to mobile with a bit bigger word panels.

Great job!

Endless Game by gmaker 2018-09-01T14:46:15Z

Loved the soundtrack! The game is pretty fun, I could see its full version with different enemies, platforms and objects released on mobile, haha. Great job, especially for a compo!

Hydrogenic by Gabe 2018-08-14T20:00:06Z

Awesome idea! Had a similar one years back as a mobile game, called it Pi Jump, but it was endless, not level-based. :P The sounds are fitting and the art is as good as it gets with minimalistic style, really suits the game. The levels were fun as well. Great job!

Windoge 96 by Barbaarian 2018-08-14T23:53:14Z

Nice game, guys. I agree that it'd do well on mobile too, it'd be especially fun with an adware mini-game, which'd have real mobile ads, haha. Joking, trolling your players is bad. ._. Well, that's just what this game does to your mood, you become all troll-ish. :P And it's a great thing, influencing your players' emotions that way! Neat gameplay and fitting visuals/audio overall.

Well done!

TrackBlasters by paulloz 2018-08-14T19:07:35Z

Awesome visuals and a great take on the theme! First racing I saw this jam. Was also quite difficult (though maybe that's because I'm not used to the top-down racing games, haha). The audio was also top-notch.

Great job!

Pineapple Run by yscik 2018-08-14T23:23:30Z

A nice game with a well-defined scope. Art and audio are nice, and the main character/overall idea are funny. The gameplay felt smooth, although I do feel like after some point there's no way to play it "right", amount of red blocks increases to the levels of "I either shoot them or have nowhere to go". :D

Well done, really enjoyable!

The Not Very Golden Age of Piracy by nuclearfriend 2018-08-14T16:05:31Z

Really great game, lost on the fifth ship. Game design, art, music, sfx and even a voiceover - everything was awesome and I encountered no bugs as well.

If I were to suggest anything so that this wasn't just a useless praise, it'd be a change to the overall game progression - I was expecting some more stuff or different enemies to appear later on (though admittedly I can't be sure they don't appear on 6+ ships; that said, even if that was the case I'd recommend moving that to earlier stages since the game gets hard enough to those of us who don't play that many RTS, haha).

For example, a collectible making up a stronger weapon creating a risk-reward situation - you have to collect two pieces to shoot with a much bigger area of coverage, yet you have to waste time on actually gathering it without any instant payout.

Spaceship Slam by Elemental Zeal Game Studios 2018-08-31T12:18:17Z

A really fun concept and nice realization. The story is also great, haha. Well done!

Mindblocked by diptoman 2018-08-14T17:19:17Z

A great game, I especially liked all the level design, pretty unusual for a puzzle game made in LD have it on that level of quality. Plus I like sliding block puzzles a lot, so it's right up my alley. Music reminded me of the classic GB/GBC Pokemon games by the way, which's quite a praise.

Space Cargo by Apples_mmmmmmmm 2018-09-03T02:22:29Z

I enjoyed it, especially the mood created by the space setting with the unusual cargo names and a nice bgm track amplifying it. I see other comments already mentioning some UI improvements, that's basically the only thing I'd change - most of the time I was just spamming through all the sell-able items in case I had any of them. But of course it didn't have any negative impact on my experience anyways, just my 5c to avoid being entirely useless with no suggestions and just praise. :P I think this is a good base for a space trader version of FTL or something similar, would gladly play something like that someday should you continue working on the project. And I haven't even noticed that it's a compo initially, so additional props for making such a game in just 2 days. Well done!

Co-op Puzzle by wowa 2018-09-01T14:09:03Z

Quite a unique idea, especially for the LD! I played it alone sadly, so missed out on all the android fun seen in the video, but it was enjoyable alone as well, haha. This actually seems like a neat concept to polish and release on mobile, playable alone but also with up to 3 friends helping different tasks/enemies, difficulty varying with the amount of players, you get the gist. Good luck with the project and well done!

Polar Panic! At the Disco by PeachTreeOath 2018-09-04T17:15:16Z

I enjoyed it! This game is both fun and funny, although I gotta say I expected it to be a bit easier, haha. The music was especially outstanding and fitting to the whole disco setting. I didn't have much of a problem with the controls or feedback, but I could see why others would want it; you'd surely add it in a full version of the game though (if you decide to continue working on the project), and it'd have been pretty hard to do with the limited jam time, so I wouldn't say that's something to criticize the game over. It's a polished and great entry overall, well done!

MoonSpell by Welliton 2018-08-15T00:27:07Z

Would be a great fit for appstore/google play, imo. It's a nice idea implemented really well. The music and art feel pleasant and just where they belong. Lost on level 9 or 10, not sure; it'd be cool to be able to continue retrying the same level you lost on.

Well done!

Freezing Sky by Zeriver 2018-09-01T19:25:17Z

Second strategy builder I enjoyed a lot this LD, great job! Especially for a solo developer. I liked the core loop of juggling a limited amount of workers between different facilities, can definitely see it expanded into a bigger game with more buildings, upgrades of those, and a variety of events aside from the freeze. I haven't played Frostpunk yet, maybe it's somewhat like that, and if it's anything like your game, then it's even more interesting than I thought. :P One thing I'd change is add more speed levels - I dunno if it's because I'm playing on a potato laptop or if it was designed that way, but even at the fourth speed the game seemed rather chill and slow-ish for me; I'd appreciate like double the speed, especially for the night-time. Just in case it's just my PC - 4 minutes of game-time (x4 speed) lasted around 1 second irl for me. It didn't detract from my experience and I enjoyed playing it though, thanks a lot for the game!

Oh, and I've checked out Godly Corp steam page as well. It seems like a hilarious game, haha. Something like Octodad but first-person. I don't have much feedback, just a small piece of advice - I'd re-order the screenshots a bit so that each of the first few screens was with a new level/background in it; with how over-saturated the market is, you have to go all-in on the first impression your page gives, so more variety early on/less variety later on is better than average variety all the way through. If it makes the second half of the list look too similar, you could always just remove some of the screenshots altogether. But yeah, it's just an opinion, of course.

Well done! Both with the LD submission and the steam game - I see a lot of soul poured into your works, keep at it, I hope to see you making it big someday!

Legacy by gil4 2018-08-14T18:08:15Z

Thanks, everyone! We're really grateful for the feedback and glad you enjoyed our game. :)

@plukers, we slept for 6-8 hours between day 1 and day 2, then for 2-3 hours between days 2 and 3, haha. Overscoped a bit with the world size, had to cut some sleep time to implement most of what we had planned.

@robowarrior1982, yeah, that's not intended, just a side-effect to the way the physics work here. It'll be fixed in future builds, but I couldn't fix it (re-structure some core logic) fast enough to fit into the initial version time constraints.

@olivier-millochau, I guess you have played the pre-hotfix version, there you can't read them and finish the game unless you find an additional bag item; after the hotfix, you can't go down below one inventory slot, so you'll always be able to read the descriptions, plus the end-game screen has them all listed, even for the items you have never found.

Legacy by gil4 2018-08-15T16:58:05Z

@alex-brull, sorry to hear about the bug! It's the first time we're seeing it, so if you have any additional details/assumptions on how it happened we'd really appreciate it; will look into it either way, of course.

Edit: never mind, found and fixed it; thanks again for bringing it to our attention!

Legacy by gil4 2018-08-19T23:48:35Z

Thanks everyone, we appreciate your kind words and feedback a lot! We have a new build coming up with several fixes to some of the problems mentioned by you, so reading about your experiences is invaluable to identify as much problems as possible.

@tom7, you've actually identified the exact two places we're nerfing in the next update, removing the spikes from the three currents spot and making the thorns' hitboxes slightly smaller in the final race, so props for that. :P As for the descriptions not matching the items - it's not actually a bug, but a UI/UX issue that commonly causes that confusion. When you're picking a new item up while your inventory's full, the prompt for an item to throw away will open the inventory and focus the first item you have instead of the most recently taken one. Sadly I had more pressing and game-breaking issues during the last hours of the jam, so it stayed in the jam version; it's fixed in the next build though. Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback!

Legacy by gil4 2018-08-21T17:42:43Z

@reizoukin, you mean the first ghost you meet? If so, it's just a matter of jumping before shooting the sphere.

EVOLUTION by Noa Calice 2018-08-15T00:43:55Z

Really inspiring, love games that invoke some deeper thoughts within the players. The art was especially fitting.

Well done and thanks for the game!

Loot Keeper by outstar 2018-08-14T19:52:40Z

A great game all around - interesting game design, stylish graphics, pleasant audio! Reminds me of the constant need to clean up your inventory in MMOs, haha.

Was killed a bit too fast on my first try, having even a bit of negative stats was more substantial than I assumed initially. :P After I got the hang of things the difficulty curve turned out to be well-designed; I guess you could say that at some point later into the game it gets easier than it should be, but some form of "power creep" was to be expected, so I can't even consider that an avoidable problem, especially in a jam.

The controls were adding a certain charm to the game - my initial expression was that it'd be a mouse-only game with drag-and-drop and maybe some additional clicks needed (like LMB for item rotation), but keyboard controls were playing nicely into all the chaos and "panic mode" moments. My only small gripe was that the item movement was a bit too responsive for my liking - sometimes holding a key down for just a tad longer than usual was leading to the item moving two cells in the appropriate direction instead of just one like I intended.

Special props for the physical/magic system of stats, love it for years thanks to Pokemon games. Imo, this system is the main reason the game works that well, providing the motivation to actually swap around physical and magical "builds" and save some of the unequipped items. Without it the game'd come down to quickly summing all the stats to constantly assess what item brings the most "net profit" per tile and replace the worst out of equipped items, assuming it's worse than the item being assessed; that'd also make intentional item destruction way more beneficial (there'd be almost no reason to keep anything with less overall stats than everything equipped). But I don't want you to fall asleep reading all the praise I have for this system, so I'll stop here. xD

Well done, thanks for the game!

Pervertica - CCG by mitus 2018-08-15T00:17:20Z

Haha, the album with those cards is the most creative way of engaging your players to stay in the game longer I've seen in any LD. :D

The art and music are superb, plus I had the same idea about "space" meaning the button, so I like the take on theme a lot (didn't take that concept in the end though). :P I like rhythm games overall and enjoyed playing yours as well. Narrative was... intriguing as well.

Really well done!

Building On The Edge by theslate 2018-08-31T20:03:28Z

Fun concept and one of the best 3D graphics I've seen this LD. Well done!

Keeper of Balance by Cosmic Adventure Squad 2018-08-14T22:56:03Z

Great game, like the "meta" reading of the theme, haha. Going for several abilities is actually something we like to go for in game jams ourselves, so props for that. :3 I like the unusual "3D yet 3/4" or something perspective and graphics overall. The game was a tad difficult, but I bet that's because I accidentally bumped into two emerald heroes and fought them simultaneously. :D

If I were to suggest anything, I'd give some other simple ability to use from the start, like a simple AoE spin or anything really; that way the beginning would be more engaging, besides, RMB is free anyways with LMB being required. But even without it the game is full of content for a jam, and I know how hard it is to cram everything you want into three days of development - been there, done that. You probably had tons of ideas on what else to include yourselves, so I'll say this again - it's a really nice game, well done, guys!

Smoke: it's ok to feel by Lumpy 2018-09-02T17:53:45Z

I loved it. Simple, but quite deep of an interactive experience. Really glad I played it, thanks for the game!

The way you used bees to direct the player in a roundabout way instead of a direct trip home using the same route was nice, considering you never forced the player to actually visit every single location. Felt like a good game design touch, a definite way to show "here, you can go to other places now, but you don't have to if you don't want to". The end screen also rewarded exploration neatly, something lots of designers forget in games with similar morals/feels-oriented aspects. At the same time, the actual answers you chose weren't affecting it (from what I saw), so you never "judged" the player for their decisions, and that's extremely important in such a game imo.

So is 9 objects/marks on the ending screen the max you can get? I assume it is, since I wanted to check and re-played the game without talking to anyone and didn't get Smoke's face on the end screen unlike my first playthrough, but I wanna be sure since I'd like seeing all the characters there are.

Really great job overall!

Minokami by JuanJ7 2018-08-29T13:30:50Z

A fun multiplayer game, we liked it quite a lot. :3 Got me thinking, it's pretty surprising that I haven't seen any serious indie side-view basketball games, they're all mostly real simulations in 3D from AAA or small mobile mini-games. Imo, you could develop this game into a great "in-between". Really nice job with the concept! The graphics were pleasant as well. Controls could use some tweaking, but I know how hard it is to make perfect controls in a jam environment, so that's not even something I would criticize your game over. Well done!

Honest Dan's Clutteral Damage by Honest Dan 2018-09-04T19:11:16Z

I liked it a lot, haha. The graphics and audio were good, the gameplay got fun once I got used to a sort of cycle to manage (gotta say, the whole onboarding process was rough but rewarding). The mood set up by the text throughout the game was great, and while the theme interpretation is pretty normal, I like how the comical backstory makes it unique anyways. I could see it released as a full game in the humorous form of a "date sim + your partner's mess tycoon". :D Well done!

Inner Space by Sengi 2018-09-04T13:52:47Z

Really stylish and well-made! The graphics and sounds were great, setting up an according mood for the game's setting. I think I can't say it was "fun" exactly due to the topics this game handles, but not in a bad way at all - I've always considered it wrong to judge games based on their fun-factor only, since games as an art form have long overgrown that shallow and binary approach. I do consider the experience really interesting and valuable though, which's what matters imo. Looking forward to your future games, crafting such an atmosphere in just three days is amazing!

Spiritship by velvetlobster 2018-09-02T14:42:44Z

One of the favorites mood-wise, loved the music and the art style. I'll gladly play the full version if you end up finishing it, really curious to see where this's going! Well done!

Too Many Harlots by Team Infernus 2018-09-02T18:03:17Z

This game has an interesting take on the theme for sure, haha. I agree with other commenters that some additional mechanics would be nice, but the base for an unusual yet enjoyable tycoon game is already there. :D The writing (and as a result the mood) was great, same with art. Well done!

Piracy: Don't Run Out Of Space by MariosManiatis 2018-09-01T20:02:54Z

One of the funniest ideas I've seen. :D I mean, space as in "PC storage space" isn't that rare, but throwing SSDs around... First time for me, haha. The graphics and audio were nice too, and it felt pleasant to play overall. Well done!

GoldSlash by Gjallar 2018-08-29T13:39:51Z

I enjoyed it. :3 As other comments mentioned, putting coins into the machine was somewhat hard, but I guess it was a part of the challenge. Other than that, the gameplay felt good and polished for a jam game. Awesome art and pleasant sounds as well. Great job!

To Infinity and Beyond by Olivier Millochau 2018-08-29T23:35:33Z

I love it! This game is probably the best I've played this LD in terms of game design, honestly. And one of the very few I wanted to finish (did that on my second try, browser mouse gestures messed my first run up, lol). The graphics were nice, bgm felt fitting to the overall mood (shame you didn't go for that category), and it was really enjoyable to play. Maybe it's not too innovative, but all the little game design details intertwined with the theme incredibly well, haha. Really well done!

Falling Ecosystem by sprvrn 2018-08-14T14:41:07Z

I enjoyed it a lot, even went for a second run, haha. A good take on the theme, surprisingly well-balanced as well (for a jam, I mean; usually everything is just too easy or too hard) - the last building comes into play late enough to have most of the spaces occupied, making it hard to abuse in getting a higher score. The art is pleasant and sounds are on point as well, making it a solid entry.

If I were to suggest anything it'd be making the last building generate tiles around itself to make the ending more interactive and fun - that way you could have a clearly defined goal to the game, restore the whole playing field and ultimately fill it with those tile generators to guarantee stability and prosperity for the local citizens. :D That'd probably also require being able to destroy whatever you build and tweak the balance quite a bit, so don't consider it anything more than a random thought from another dev passing by.

Oh, and on something more manageable - I'd make the game require less clicks to get through a tile, it was perfectly fine on my first run but got pretty tedious to do on my second playthrough.

Really well done, thanks for the game!

Spaced Out by Roidz 2018-08-31T19:49:13Z

Great game, stylish and achieves its goal of reminding the players of those classic arcade games! Difficult controls added to the overall charm imo, and I also like how the initial asteroids were breaking into pieces increasing the difficulty. Ship scale isn't an issue for quite a long time, so ignoring the "become smaller" power-up is easier in the beginning, though based on other comments wanting this game to become even harder is sadistic of me, I guess. :D All in all, it's a pleasant and polished game, I enjoyed it. Well done!

Unfamiliar by Kovakomes 2018-08-15T04:43:44Z

Absolutely stunning. And direct, which's incredibly important in my opinion - game development as an art form evolves all the time and we're slowly getting there, but there's an ongoing trend of going in roundabout ways to deliver some thought-inducing experiences. You know, as if denying the actual *fun* would be equal to creating a bad experience for the players.

One thing I can tell you is that I've sent a link to your project to my friend who skipped this LD, which's quite a rare thing for me to do - while there're always lots of gems in the game jams, games that people just *have* to see are still pretty rare. Yours is like that though.

Thank you.

BulletJam by C.Even 2018-09-03T02:37:58Z

I liked it a lot! One of the few games that really made me feel like "I'm running out of space" and it was totally on me, not just "because the game was designed with that theme in mind". Making that jam-terrain add up bit by bit is really nice from the coding perspective. The graphics were pleasant as well. First and foremost, it was fun. :) Great job, especially for your first Ludum Dare!

Soggy Bunny by rexpeppers 2018-08-31T20:10:39Z

I liked it a lot. :3 Would gladly play more levels if you ever create those! The rules are easy to understand, the graphics and sounds are pleasant, solid entry overall. Well done!

TUNAPADTWA by ROBOWARRIOR1982 2018-08-29T19:18:14Z

Awesome game! Even beyond being nice in every category, I was pleasantly surprised with how smooth the controls felt. You might think I'm exaggerating, but I've seen a lot of jam games over the years and controls feeling clunky is quite the norm. Not here though, and it perfected the aforementioned overall state of the game, being good in every aspect. Well done!

Will Survive by foxserranu 2018-09-01T14:34:46Z

Really beautiful game. The narrative, the sounds and music were awesome as well. Don't wanna repeat other comments when you're well aware of the core loop issues, but I do agree with a comment I saw about shortening the overall timer - it should be rather easy to change and would mitigate quite a big part of the problem, compared to adding new features and stuff at least. I see you're going to continue working on the project - good luck with that, I'll be glad to try it out when you release it! Well done!

Acid Sink by Supernapie 2018-08-14T18:24:46Z

Nice game, I like how everything mixes together. Music switching to different "mode" on finding a suit was an especially nice touch. :) The levels are procedurally generated, I take it? Props for that if so. Mini-map was also great to have considering the maze-y levels structure. If I were to suggest something, it'd be making the map a bit bigger, but even that is just a small thing that doesn't detract from the experience.

Well done and thanks for the game!

Hell of space by framg 2018-08-29T18:28:12Z

Great idea! Was also pretty hard, partially due to the need of "focusing" the monsters, but it didn't bother me, I welcome a well-designed challenge like that. Besides, it could be easily explained from the narrative perspective too - you gotta go from cell to cell to actually feed them, hence the additional mouse clicks. Music was awesome for a jam game. Well done!

Pool Watch by Plukers 2018-08-29T14:55:31Z

I dunno how you get to that highscore, I can barely keep up when it gets to ~200. xD Awesome game though, quite innovative and I've definitely had a lot of fun! If I were to change anything, I'd get some additional color-based "auras" for currently waving swimmers - when things get hectic it's quite hard to notice all of them at once. It'd break the immersion, of course, but make it more manageable. That said, I usually make quite difficult games myself, so who am I to talk, haha. Well done!

Breathing Room by Barondev 2018-08-29T14:47:32Z

A really nice entry, polished in all departments! I don't have much to add to all the other comments and I see you've already said that mouse control in menus might be a feature in post-LD version (a pet peeve of mine when the game features mouse controls everywhere but menus :D), so all that's left for me to say is well done, guys! Looking forward to your future games. :)

Headspace by Jaydek 2018-08-31T12:34:43Z

I enjoyed it. :3 While being pretty simple it felt pleasant to play, with responsive controls, particles on collisions, audio etc. If I were to suggest anything it'd be editing tri's collision box (felt a bit bigger than it should've been, or maybe it's the stress' boxes, can't be sure) and updating score on collecting stress, not when you pick up some calm to update the score with both changes at once. But those are just minor things that aren't getting in the way of enjoyment at all, just didn't want my feedback to be completely useless. :P Well done!

SpaceRunner by jackou 2018-08-29T20:40:54Z

Cool game! Could easily see this ported to mobile. I specifically liked level design, or to be more precise the overall difficulty curve. Jam games are often lacking in game design department, but it didn't feel that way here, which is awesome. Well done!

Block Caver by Bearmask Studios 2018-09-04T01:05:32Z

I enjoyed it! Especially loved the bgm and the jump sfx. Jumping around while pushing the blocks away felt fun, I can imagine this game on mobile with several types of blocks + "whenever several blocks of the same type form a chain they disappear" mechanic, haha. Well done!

BOMBER WONDER by JesusAcHe 2018-09-01T19:55:33Z

One of my favorites in terms of game design this time around, very nice! Reminded me of Megaman Battle Network when I saw those screenshots, but played quite differently and I enjoyed it, finished all the levels. Honestly, you should just make it into a full game, you already have at least one person ready to play it. :D Just add more playable characters/abilities, enemies, tile types, polish some small details like visual/audio feedback and you've got a great game on your hands. Of course, the graphics and audio were also good. Well done!

Bathtub Toys by KMCE 2018-08-31T14:25:41Z

Awesome job! I'm not a fan of 3D games normally, but I've enjoyed this one thoroughly - it was funny, looked and sounded nice, controls felt very responsive - out of curiosity I even played around to get upside down, reversed controls and looking at everything from underwater was hilarious. :D Special props for the voiceover, haha. Well done and thanks for the game!

Orenji-Shima - Orange Jelly Puzzle Island by Tekugare 2018-08-14T17:43:52Z

Awesome game! I like the core mechanic, the art is really pleasant and the sounds are fitting. Of course, it's a good use of the theme as well. Great job!

Big Chickies by Alex Brull 2018-09-01T13:42:49Z

Very polished and enjoyable to play. I won't be echoing other comments on the tutorial and stuff, since you were probably aware of such problems from the start and simply had no time left due to other priorities in development, so all I wanna say is well done, guys!

Ultimate Question - 42 by Usanio 2018-08-31T13:06:45Z

Really polished, could easily be released on mobile as is even. I enjoyed it, especially the way you can balance the difficulty yourself by making riskier moves and flying off into the abyss. :D Well done in all the categories!

Boxed by Devio 2018-08-31T19:08:09Z

Ugh, I was so close to finishing level 3. :D 2 customers left, unsatisfied ones at 7/10, but 25+/30 overall boxes constantly, had to start throwing away all the boxes close to me instead of blue ones only.

I enjoyed it a lot! Boxed has a simple yet not simplistic game design core, which is really important for a jam game, and it's a finished product with several levels (and increasing difficulty) to tackle, so the scope was chosen well. There are some things that could be improved, but you're aware of those yourself (controls being the most important part imo) and in my book making such a game in just 48 hours all by yourself is awesome. Well done, hope to see more from you in the future!

[ARK_DRIVE] by Josia Roncancio 2018-08-31T12:43:49Z

I really liked how you managed to evoke some emotions in me with just several lines of text basically, no real graphics or music which're often used to supplement similar effects. Proves how strong of a medium games are thanks to the interactivity, some actual choices to be made. Great job! And, uh, see you in 42 days, hope you won't forget. ._.

We Have Important Work To Do by Five Side Studios 2018-08-14T23:16:35Z

The most atmospheric game I've seen thus far, haha. Sound is especially fitting, but everything is nice. Well done!

Space Farts by iBalls 2018-09-01T18:34:30Z

Funny game, I enjoyed it, especially the level design. :D Hope to see more from you in the future! Well done!

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Spirit Dungeon by Tarcisiotm 2018-12-06T12:53:57Z

Really liked the idea of making a sound to see what's happening around you. A polished and interesting entry, well done!

Total Party Kill by adventureislands 2018-12-06T14:19:41Z

Didn't expect to see the familiar logo when I was starting up your game, having 100%'ed three of your games on iOS before, haha. Awesome job on all fronts, especially for a compo entry! Good luck and hope to see you in more jams. :)

LD44 — Your life is currency

Hight Point by tangiblegames 2019-05-03T19:59:31Z

Oh, fellow Russian-speaking devs - thought that Lomonosov isn't the most common name to hear on LD normally, haha. Great job! I enjoyed the gameplay, especially after the 1-button phase was over, and the stories were really nice. Being able to see the leaderboard while playing was also a neat touch to have, and overall UI and presentation felt super polished for a jam. Thank you for the game! :)

DEVOUR THE FLESH by chaoclypse 2019-05-04T16:03:31Z

Awesome idea, enjoyed it a lot! This tactical roguelike approach to a snake-based game is just great, a solid candidate for a popular mobile game imo. Thanks for the game!

Mr Moneybag by managore 2019-05-04T16:01:24Z

Well done! I rarely enjoy jam roguelikes even though I love the genre overall, they just turn out too shallow in jams, and the genre requires quite a bit of depth to work well imo. Excited to see you nail it, simple yet charming and just deep enough to be enjoyable for a prolonged session. Would love to see it expanded into a full mobile game. You even inspired me to potentially go for a roguelike myself next LD (assuming fitting theme and idea). Thank you for the game and the inspiration. :3

Blood Chest by PeachTreeOath 2019-05-07T20:05:59Z

Love it! An unusual and fun "physical" mechanic, cool and rare theme interpretation (who wouldn't love playing with some mimics?), cute graphics and catchy music/sfx, all creating a wonderful, humorous experience of tossing people around with the mimic's tongue. :D Remember you guys since at least LD42 with the polar disco, wondering if you have any projects outside the jams? Well done!

Edit: forgot to check LD profiles first. Found the 5x Train wordpress website, though apparently it's not up-to-date, so still curious. :P

Insert Coin by gil4 2019-05-03T21:40:02Z

Thank you everyone, we really appreciate all the kind words and feedback! Glad you enjoyed the game. :)

@nyri0 We'd be really grateful if you did, thank you! We didn't risk posting an untested build (Linux builds are only in beta atm for the engine we're using and we don't use Linux ourselves), no idea if all the engine features we're using would work without additional tweaking, but here's the link: http://bit.do/InsertCoinLinux

Insert Coin by gil4 2019-05-03T22:20:24Z

@nyri0, hmm, I see, that's unfortunate. :( Oh well, huge thanks for testing!

Insert Coin by gil4 2019-05-07T20:07:25Z

@peachtreeoath Thank you! :3 Actually, like many others, we expected (/hoped for) a different theme than just a "subset" of the previous one, so nothing remotely close to this was built in our minds beforehand - we only knew we wanted to do something more narrative-based than usual. Choosing the concept and thinking the details through took the entirety of day 1, haha.

Space Gunner by GerardB 2019-05-03T20:51:03Z

Well done! Love how satisfying the game feels, great "juiciness", especially that visual effect upon bullets colliding with stuff. Life is currency => currency is life is also a neat interpretation (went with similar approach ourselves, haha). Great job!

One More Drop by ZAX 2019-05-02T19:15:02Z

This was fun! Wouldn't mind it being harder, but I know that making difficult games is risky in jams. :P Oh, was also pleasantly surprised to see a capable mini-map in a jam game. Polished and great in all departments, well done!

Dusty by jvolonte 2019-05-02T19:34:05Z

A great and polished entry, especially the "juiciness" of shooting. Well done!

Blood Type Z by Ceuteum 2019-05-02T19:03:19Z

I enjoyed it a lot, even with placeholders the gameplay felt pleasant. Would love to play a full version if you ever make one. ^^ Great job!

1024 by chrisdugne 2019-05-02T16:34:32Z

Pleasantly difficulty and addictive, I like it a lot! Won't be repeating stuff already mentioned, aside from wanting this on mobile. :P Expanded into the next mobile hit ideally. ;) Great job!

Death to all Slimes by markusmo3 2019-05-03T20:07:36Z

Well done! The visual effect applied to the protagonist was cool, and the overall theme implementation/game feel are great as well. I agree with the other comments that the game is pretty hard, but that's a plus in my book. :P

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Wreckless Rally by Flaterectomy 2018-04-28T20:14:12Z

Great concept, really cute and polished graphics, fitting audio - all in all a solid entry, well done. Special props for the nice tutorial, gotta remember it till the next jam. :P

Edit: Oh, forgot to mention - instantly recognized your LD39 entry (was last time I participated), that robot's style is awesome and hard to forget. :3

Yggdrasil- The Point and Click Kill Everything by Jajo 2018-04-28T18:52:15Z

I like the genre combo, although I wish it was a tad longer. Giant squirrel appearance was fun, haha. :) Nice little game, good job!

Dating Clicker by Grewoss 2018-04-28T20:56:18Z

Addictive in a classic way clicker game, nice. Props for using SFML, love that stuff, used it several years ago myself. Well done, especially for a compo entry!

Blob Dungeon by Mikeliosus 2018-04-28T02:00:50Z

@flameo326, thanks for your feedback!

That's just our camera being imperfect; we made our dev's life hell by first making a standard room size and then making several rooms of unusual sizes, so you can sometimes find yourself in a situation like that - transitions between the rooms, especially the vertical ones, are a tad wonky.

As for the itch.io page settings, our game's page owner will answer you later, middle of the night here.

Cardbound by Silvae 2018-04-28T02:17:54Z

You know, I'd have gladly played a full version with all the mechanics polished. First level had me thinking longer than it should've, for some reason I assumed that I can't jump in the air, when there was nothing indicating such a constraint. A great idea and solid realization!

Zomball by n.feofentov 2018-04-28T00:17:59Z

Heya, cool game! Finished normal mode on my first try, but the late-game did feel pretty punishing. Basically, had I not scored a ton of points in the first half, it woulda been a lot harder. Would love playing a full version of this, with different types of enemies, several playable characters with different abilities etc. :)

Gameplay, art, sound are all solid and make up a great entry. Great job!

Soul Sword by Raiyumi 2018-04-27T23:48:46Z

Solid game! Thought your name sounded familiar, then realized you're the Cat Bird's creator, 100%'d it several months ago.

I really like how the shopkeeper stuff works here, addictive and fun - the classic game cycle of get loot -> sell loot -> upgrade your stuff -> "gotta test it" works wonders. As others have said, I could see this getting a full version eventually with more variety in enemies/weapons (or maybe even different types of equipment instead of just weapons). The art is just as good as the gameplay, creates a fitting atmosphere in conjunction with the audio. Nice job!

Cooking Fantasy VI by Loowees 2018-04-27T23:32:51Z

Heya, nice game. :3 Reminds me of Overcooked a lot. And the mix with a jrpg-type system fits surprisingly well. I can imagine a full version of this with different classes specializing in different cuisines, some tactics/combos utilizing those etc. Great job!

Strategia Soccer by SraBatata 2018-04-28T00:56:00Z

Nicely done! I've always liked the idea of some kind of a trpg/strategic approach to sports games, glad to see it fleshed out. The only thing I wished for was some form of an AI, even if it was really bad, since it'd still top testing it alone. But I realize how hard it'd be to make within a jam, of course. The art and sounds are simple yet clean, which's good to avoid distraction from the game's core - its game design. Good job and keep at it. :3

Overwhelming by Ziovoxxer 2018-04-28T20:52:04Z

A solid entry! I could imagine the game getting expanded with different types of cubes, but it's fine this way for a jam game. Also I didn't notice the button after getting out of the "box" initially, haha.

I think I'd probably avoid using ammo limitation of any kind in such a game, but then again you probably had your reasons (something like a casual way to win found during playtesting); that said, I'd at least increase the ammo on level 1, since most players wouldn't abuse mechanics the moment they start playing normally anyways.

Good job and keep at it!

Pilgrimage by Kevar 2018-04-28T02:05:22Z

The texts were not cheesy at all, at least in my opinion - on the contrary, they made me feel sad there isn't a separate narrative category for grading. :) While I'm not a fan of the "walking simulators", the narrative provided some special meaning, context, atmosphere and made me keep going. The art was also quite fitting. Well done!

Slime Garden by Flameo326 2018-04-28T01:50:45Z

Heya, a fellow Metroidvania-maker, and in a compo category, nice job!

I couldn't figure out how to beat the boss (if that was it), sadly - he just kept running into the door after I hit him 6-7 times and hitting him did nothing afterwards. But I did like what I saw in the world you've built. Art and sound are quite simple, somewhat repetitive, but of course that's normal for a compo game. Having a leveling system made for a good motivator to keep going, by the way. Would gladly play an expanded version.

Solid Snake by Petro Shoferystov 2018-04-28T00:45:39Z

As the previous comment says, well-deserved. ;) Managed to beat it after a few tries, probably would've been harder had I not known the overall approach though; really reminds me of the old Hitman games. I was also constantly trying to rotate the movement direction with A/D, but that could just be a habit of mine, I guess. Great job!

Beat Warriors by Von Vista 2018-04-28T20:24:29Z

Heya, I really like rhythm games. I had no problems with understanding how to play the game, as having the controls right in front of me did help a lot, however, even while nailing the button presses perfectly I've failed several times. Honestly it's nothing surprising for a jam game not to have perfectly polished controls, but I'd just probably add several health points to the player and also speed the game up a bit. Dying wasn't as annoying as playing through the slow opening phase again and again was, really. Other than that, good job and keep at it!

College Story by n00b 2018-04-28T18:43:35Z

Really like the genre mix, and I disagree that it was hard to read and dodge at the same time. The amount of questions felt a bit lacking, but it's understandable within a jam. While I'd keep difficulty the same or make it harder, I'd specifically avoid situations where there is no dodge window at all and no correct letter among the alternatives at the same time (happened to me twice). Just making sure that there'd be a correct letter in such situations would work fine - impossible to dodge situations are actually good for the game otherwise unless they happen right after a question switch. Great job!

Ludum Dare Review Meta Game by mrPenguin 2018-04-28T18:58:23Z

No words, amazing meta design. xD And props for the instagram, penguins fans unite. :) Seriously though, for a small board game it's more balanced than it might have looked initially. Nice job!

LD59 — Signal

Museum Maze Heist by yazara 2026-04-23T09:52:32Z

While it's a shame that the second part had to be reduced in scope, the core feels very smooth and pleasant. As a fan of the heist genre, wish you luck in expanding the project if you ever feel like it, well done!

yAI presents Himari, the Beautiful Super Genius Artificial Intelligence by alaah 2026-05-08T09:00:35Z

Incredible as always, and also one of the most innovative and creative approaches to the theme out of all the participants I've seen this time around! I'll be honest, based on the description, I felt it'd be a bit of a straightforward interpretation at first, though that was an awful mistake on my part. Normally, I'd also hesitate to install an entire new messenger for testing an LD game (and I'm afraid this "accessibility" issue will be the main blocker on the game's route to widely recognized magnificence), but thankfully, knowing you left no doubts that the end result would be worth it. :D Well done!

The Archives of Trevosa by celia14 2026-04-23T07:11:42Z

Loved it. Incredibly well done for a jam game, with some more content (e.g. several storylines instead of one) I'd have gladly paid for it on Steam or a similar platform.

Last Resort by gil4 2026-04-21T05:13:49Z

Thank you @caelestial!

Thanks a lot @xedur! No, all of those are available (albeit with some shared abilities between the bots) and necessary to beat the game, just follow the signal on the radar. :3

Last Resort by gil4 2026-05-08T09:01:26Z

Hey everyone! Life got busy fast, so unfortunately we were unable to actively participate in discussions, but we did rate as many games as we could, and you've all created some amazing projects! We're super grateful for all the feedback and the kind words, it'll be really helpful down the road, either with the full version of Last Resort or anything else we do within the genre, honestly. Cheers!

Last Resort by gil4 2026-05-08T09:02:23Z

Hey @alaah, glad to see you're still jamming after all these years! Thanks a lot for the kind words and the video, was interesting to check out. :3 Also, since it seems you didn't get to see the finale, here is a video of it in case you're curious: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EjpNqGqYdjY9242FUcflwyz3bNc0wniX/view?usp=sharing

Tiny Signal Lost by Strega 2026-04-23T08:23:52Z

A wonderful entry, had a lot of fun and loved that cute ending! Took me 8 minutes, would love more content if you ever decide to continue.

Drowned by the Light by kazuo256 2026-04-23T09:30:59Z

The presentation is exquisite, very artistic. It's also interesting how the "signal" in your interpretation is both the goal and the core of the protagonist's problems, just like how in real life our ambitions often become the bane of our existence, or at the very least any semblance of comfort within it. Well done!

Pidgerton Agency by rehawk 2026-04-22T11:30:39Z

Enjoyable and funny, cool variety of mini-games and a very satisfactory victory in the end. :D Well done!

Cadence of Glob by Orjan 2026-04-23T01:10:13Z

Cool vibes and style in an interesting narrative wrapping, great job!

Signals and Points by squimmy 2026-04-23T09:18:34Z

Quite a challenging genre to pull off quickly, but you've managed really well, great job!

The Hunt for Red April by XeduR 2026-04-21T05:11:53Z

Very thematic and immersive! Also challenging in a good way, had to go for quite a few tries before finally sinking the Red April, but it was never frustrating, only motivating me to get better (and maybe a bit luckier with the map placements, haha).

The Abyss by TureGrappa 2026-04-22T10:50:18Z

Cool approach to the theme and a fun game that showcases its strong sides well, great job!

BounSynth by CptNero 2026-04-22T09:43:36Z

Love the idea, very unique and fun! As others have mentioned, UI felt a bit rough to use, but it didn't make me wanna stop, and that's what matters. :) Got 14 coins, are those all I could find or did I miss any, out of curiosity?

You probably have tons of ideas on improvement yourself, but just in case, I'd at least switch some of the knobs to toggles since it seems there's no reason to alter them bit by bit.

Awesome job!

Radar Runnings by tenthousandfireants 2026-04-22T11:45:10Z

Interesting concept! One thing I'd suggest is adding some hints/explanation to ease the player into the beginning of the game, but of course it's totally understandable for a jam project to lack things like that. Well done!

Harmonic by Whiteowl4399 2026-04-22T09:06:21Z

A wonderful concept and high-quality implementation, would love to see it as an actual full release with more content!

Planchette by Accelerate0814 2026-04-22T11:38:50Z

Ah, so the mouse button smashing sequence wasn't winnable, good to know. Great job, very atmospheric!

Link the Shrink by TOSHIY 2026-04-23T01:26:46Z

Cute visuals and an interesting gameplay core, nicely done!

Read My Signal by Shivvvy 2026-04-23T01:48:48Z

Cute and charming, with an interesting interpretation of the theme and high level of polishing, great job!

Signolium and the Hunt for the Mutineers, Part 3 by Noob117 2026-04-22T10:43:14Z

Nicely done, had a lot of fun, especially once I've got my revenge (and some extra riches on the way). :D An issue I've had is that during one of the regular fights one guy somehow wandered into the outer space and we couldn't reach or damage each other through the walls, had to restart. Thankfully, it was only my second map node so it didn't ruin my impression whatsoever, still enjoyed all the shooting and revenging. :D

灯台の見守り — Lighthouse's Vigil by Tanjou 2026-04-23T01:42:03Z

Loved the atmosphere created by the visuals and audio in harmony, and it supported the gameplay really well, great job!

Small Among Storms by ShanzPro 2026-04-23T00:59:52Z

I liked the approach to theme and the attention to details a lot, well done!

Lost Signal by senan25252 2026-04-22T10:27:42Z

Cool idea, interesting evolving visuals, and pleasant background music! I'd suggest mentioning the double jump in the page description as well btw, wasn't aware of it at first.
