That was fun :) Nice concept!

That was fun :) Nice concept!
This is really innovative, I liked it a lot! You really feel immersed in the story, even with these simple graphics.
This is cool, the first online multiplayer I've seen this Ludum Dare. It works pretty well!
This looks really nice and the running animation is hilarious :D It's really hard though
Nice concept! :)
Nice design on the environment! Too bad that you couldn't finish the player character :/
The controls work pretty well!
I like how much variation and depth you have created while only using one button :) It's really fun to play, and the learning curve is well done.
Music and Artwork in this game are incredible, as well as the mood they create :)
This is so awesome! The cat is lovely, the audio is perfect :D
Neat concept! The collision seems a bit off though :/
The concept is really clever, the gameplay has a great flow and is really addicting. The music and art fit the theme very well :)
I would make the radius in which you can infest other ants more clear though, the light emission gives a wrong feeling of that radius.
Thank you for the feedback, I have some ideas on how to improve the controls, when I have time I will fix them :)
Thank you for the constructive feedback, I added the source and the controls in the description.
Wow, very nice and polished game!
Feedback for the attack would be nice.
Somehow I didn't lose any lives, no matter what happened o.O
Information about range and abilities of the towers would be nice. The concept is interesting though :)
Nice game, a little more variety (different weapons/ opponents/ powerups) would be nice, and a life counter.
The music is really nice!
The spinning asteroids look really cool, but a background of space would add a lot to the space feel.
And that fuel mechanic should be mentioned alongside with the controls, I didn't read the last sentence at first and was confused that the rocket stopped.
Very cool that there's a working AI :) It's difficult but fun once you get used to the controls
Lolol the animations, artstyle and idea are hilarious :D
It works really well, but it's also very hard.
Really difficult, as it's kind of counter intuitive to move in the opposite direction of your input.
Nice idea!
Once you get the hang of it I think the aiming works pretty well actually :) The bonus points for a streak are nice.
my highscore is 15400
Aw the kitten getting hit is sad :(
Overall a really nice game, well done! I especially like the animations.
Amazing, very well done! You should definetely continue developing this in the future, maybe think about publishing a mobile version as well!
Wow, I'm really curious how the tech behind this game works! Really innovative and interesting game.
I really like the soundtrack and intro as well :)
Very good game with satisfying sound and nice graphics :)
I didn't notice an overall increase of difficulty (number of points) too much as I progressed, so if there is something like that implemented, the curve could be steeper.
I LOVED the sounds! :D
I like the graphics, the cows are really cute :3
It's really hard to see your projectiles though, the first time I played I actually didn't notice them.
And btw, you could put the android game on the play store for easier installation.
Very aesthetic game, and great gameplay :) The controls work really well.
The connection to the theme fells a bit far fetched though :P
The framerate on web player is too low for me to actually play the game as soon as the clip appears and the windows download crashes after the intro :(
I really like your idea though, very innovative!
Classic, well crafted japanese adventure! Nice, haven't seen something like this in a game jam before.
Thank you everyone for the feedback! :)
And @klianc09, thank you for pointing this out, I will add a webGL build today and chnaged the labeling.
Nice concept :)
I find it difficult to follow the player though since he's so tiny.
The artstyle looks really nice!
The sound effects overall are nice, apart from the sound of the monster behind you, which is too intrusive.
And why does the character get faster when it shrinks?
The art looks really nice and polished :)
The controls work good on android, the gameplay isn't too exciting though. Maybe you could spice it up with some other mechanics.
For example every now and then the cactus grows a flower, and during the time the flower is visible you have to collect the items instead of dodging them.
Awesome game! Quite a lot of content for 48 hours, I really liked the dialogues as well!
The only thing I missed was an option to hold down your button to keep shooting/ biting.
You could improve the game a lot with some little tweaks:
- add a repeating background texture to support the movement motion of the spaceship
- show the limit of resources your ship can hold
- make the asteroids move around in space
Also there's a lack of challenge at the moment, there are many possibilities to make the game more dfficult and therefore more fun. You should really consider adding some in the future :)
The controls work well and the music is nice :)
Some ideas for improvement I had were
1. decrease the speed when the sunflower is small
2. show the next lightbeam with an indicator to make it less random, but maybe add an obstacle (like a cloud) which stuns you, for more tactical depth
Really innovative concept and could be really fun with a bit more polishing. Unfortunately it's very hard, especially at the beginning and weird things happened when both pisoners were connected but seperated by a wall.
I think it would be better if you could move both prisoners in both directions and maybe switch between them with an extra key. Or move both at the same time, with 4 buttons.
The art is really nice :)
Fun game, but the color choices seem weird to me, as well as the key mappings. On a german keyboard, Z and X aren't next to each other :P
Cool concept, some more balancing is needed though.
Sometimes it's really hard to evade obstacles since you change directions too slowly.
And a tip to make the text less blurry: scale the UI down and increase the font size ;)
Awesome game, Quill. I've downloaded the android version and played it a lot, so here are some things I would work on if you continue the project (which you absolutely should).
- Finance Dept. is way overpowered.
- There should be a less random way to gain extra months, since they are the strongest addition you can buy.
- Maybe an option to pay money to get a new set of cards would decrease the randomness.
- Zoom on android doesn't really work, otherwise this would be a great mobile game.
- You should prevent having two of the same cards to chose from.
I'm curious how high you will score and how the future of your game will look like :)
Cool game, a bit short though.
The mechanic is really simple but can have a lot of depth if it's explored further.
You should really add some more enemies and maybe some more cards to the game :)
Clever design!
It seemed kind of unfair to me at times, when only shapes of the wrong form came.
Wow, the atmosphere is great o.O The music really adds a lot to it!
Also nice atempt on a serious topic!
I enjoyed the game a lot :)
It really reminded me of adventures in a fantasy novel. The ending felt a bit anticlimatic and sudden though. But following the clues was really cool!
Cool game, simple and addicting :)
It would be nice if you would shoot with 1 and 2, instead of having to press the button + the mouse key.
Really funny game! :D And an innovative mechanic!
I missed a sense of progression or variety after some time though.
Thanks for pointing that out! I will look into it as soon as I can
Unfortunately the unit document is on a free webhost server, which is pretty slow sometimes or even fails to connect :/
Hopefully the game will work for most people!
The graphics, especially the animations, are awesome :)
And the audio fits perfectly!
I didn't really understand my objective though, what's up with this "Oops, wrong door!"?
A lot of fun to play and it's awesome how much variety you have with all these forms! :)
Perfect audio! :D I love it when people do that for Game Jams
I love the graphics! :D
Good scope for a first game :)
I got ~5000 points.
The character sprite has a really different art style from the rest though, try to be more consistent about it next time and it will look a lot better^^
Wow, a really polished game! Nice work!
The keys aren't chosen well though, on my keyboard Z and X are switched so it's not as easy to play :P
Really nice and polished art, the quotations are cool and I love the music.
On Android it was really hard to hit the notes (felt kind of unfair), so I ended up spamming the keys.
The graphics are excellent, but the combat isn't that interesting. There are many options for you to give it more depth. Especially the spells could be more diverse, and maybe stronger weapons should also have drawbacks. I didn't really get the use of the armor value.
Some cards, like the +10 health are really worthless, since you lose health faster than you gain more.
But I think the game definetely has Potential.
I love the artstyle :)
And the music makes a great atmosphere, especially when more and more layers of music are added. 5/5 mood
The gameplay isn't that exciting, but for me the art & music make up for it.
An amazing addition would be animations, maybe just an unhappy and a happy version of the character as player feedback (I don't know if your daughter would want to do that ;) )
I tried so hard cheating the game by making only one giant wheel... Really sad that I couldn't get it to work :(
Cool mechanic, it was a bit hard to Control on Android because the handles are so small and move so fast. I played to Level 8, took a lot of damage because I thought the mermaids were friendly^^
Also, the music is pretty happy considering that I'm killing dozens of boats and poor mermaids :D
I tested it on Android (Samsung Galaxy S3).
There was a weird black bar in front of the enemy base, so I couldn't see what was happening there :/
The assembly feature was cool, I didn't see how to use it strategically though (more expensive = better, isn't it?). But I couldn't hover over the parts to see their description on Android.
The interface is WAY too small on my device (Samsung Galaxy S3), so I couldn't play the Game :/
Wow, this is really cool. Really much Content and nice polished. I played Alchemy games like this before, they're really relaxing to play (and I guess fun to develop). I like the progression in new ages, also cool how objects are greyed out if there's no use for them (at least that's how I interpreted it). It would be nice to get hints, what objects can be discovered, and then trying to find out how to craft them.
The only thing I really didn't like were the sound effects^^
It's really cool how you used the microphone, works better that I expected :) It's good for practising my whistle skills :P
I don't really see why you need the 3D Level though, seems like way too much effort for your game. For VR It's probably a different story, but for me a simpler 2D interface could have done the job.
Definetely not a bad game, but not really interesting either. I guess for that kind of reaction Game the mechanic needs to be more complex for the Game to be fun.
Also it would be more rewarding with more feedback effects.
The music is amazing :)
The Nokia should definetely resist more than one hit though :D
Hey James! I added some simple instructions, a detailed version will follow very soon ;)
Thanks for looking into it anyway!
Thank you for the Feedback! That's a really nasty bug, I hope I can fix it soon...
Great artwork and really funny idea! :D A little pessimistic for my taste :P I didn't quite understand if there's a tactical way to play the game, but enjoyed it nonetheless!
Really nice visuals and overall a cool experience! I enjoyed it and played it for a while :) If I would work on things further, it would be the camera movement (make it drag behind the player and smooth it out) and improve the level design - I was basically standing below one platform all the time and waiting for the enemies to run into my shield or my equipped attack. Or as PeachTree said, balance the shield. Giving the player multiple lifes would make it more beginnner-friendly
I really enjoyed the art and audio (especially the commentary) :D The mechanic of collecting stones and bringing them back to your PC doesn't really fit the game jam sim topic though.
Great atmosphere! Sounds and art is nicely polished :) The controller mapping is a bit weird, especially activating your skill with both arrow buttons and exiting the body with the up arrow  Also, the movement controls could be a bit more polished - the part in level 2 where you have to stack vessels to reach the soul was kind of fiddly since it's hard to land on top of another vessel.
Interesting concept! Getting faster while becoming more vulnerable and harder to control works well. The controls could need a little more tweaking though - it's really difficult to control the car at a higher speed. Maybe if the camera would turn with the car instead of a fixed top view it would also make it easier to control.
Cool concept and nice visuals! I really like the atmosphere :) I agree with some of the other commenters: The players speed should be faster or at least more responsive (change speed instantly instead of accelerating slowly) - I would also increase the speed of the "other dimension bubble" so that it appears or disappears faster. In general, I would rather make the game a bit easier than really hard and challenging for an event like this ;)
Congrats on your first own Unity project! For the next one, I would recommend keeping the visuals simple / consistent - the beautiful photograph in the background doesn't fit the derpy handdrawn character and the fun athomsphere :P The concept works quite well, it could be a bit faster (move faster, jump higher and not die quite as often) in my opinion ;)
It took me a bit to figure out what's going on, some info texts are definetely needed! I really enjoyed your artwork on the world map ;) The god reminds me of the pokemon Swirlix :D Seperating the sacrifice shop screen and the god stats as well as the sacrifice screen and the continent screen made it quite hectic and resulted in a lot of switching back and forth between screens - I think the game would be more fun if you reduced the speed and the need to switch between screens. Still, great work for a first game jam! :)
Oh yeah, and a short overview about how the game works in the description on this page would be good!
Once again a really enjoyable game from you! I love the simplicity of this, enemy and icon design, the subtle animations and the mechanic of shooting coins to fight and to buy.
Same as @benjamin I also died because of running into a dead end.
Nice additional features would be a mini map and a more elegant solution for the stat UI.
Beautiful art and sound! :) I would have liked some sort of challenge, but I guess that's the normal issue with clicker games.
Great mood, a really relaxing game :) I also like the theme a lot. Possible improvements would be clearer feedback about the age / hunger of an animal, their energy production as well as some nice sprite animations ;)
Unfortunately I encountered a bug while playing: 2019-05-06 17_37_46-GameMaker_ Studio.png
Just as @kristinamay I also failed to disconnect from the other robot :/ I liked the idea of using your battery to power up other things, UI and music were nice as well.
Great relation to the theme and the gameplay works well! Because of the "bling" sound it feels like I'm earning a lot of money, which I am not, so changing this would improve the mood I guess. Also, unfortunately some parts of my screen are cropped off, so I can't see the whole interface of the family screen. 2019-04-30 10_51_03-Greenshot.png
I love the humour of this game! :D The absurd idea and the voice lines are great!
Making the ship or gun harder to control makes the game less fun though - maybe there are other ways to increase the difficulty than to randomly jitter the movement. For the gun units it could be that you shoot out the crew at slower speeds, thus making it harder to predict where to aim. For the movement it could be that the ship brakes more slowly (with no pilots it wouldn't brake at all when you no longer hold a key).
Also, I somehow expected to be able to recollect my crewmates that are floating around in space
Beautiful game! :) Dragging around the lizard by its tongue felt a little clunky though and made it really difficult to get around in the level.
@mharring I agree with @garys , aiming with the mouse would feel a lot better!
Solid game, the level design and puzzles you need to solve with your coins work nicely. Whenever I bought an upgrade though, the game just restarted and I dind't notice a difference
I really like the idea! Unlocking new traits feels rewarding and the game fits the theme perfectly. What I'm missing is some sort of goal or maybe hints of which traits there are still left to unlock.
I love the humour of this! :D Assembling mutated creatures for social media - why not?
Once I figured out how it worked, I immediately got 4.5k followers with my first creature though, so I could immediately buy all body parts. What I was missing was a general goal or feedback for my progress.
2019-05-01 12_02_59-Greenshot.png
Wow I had a lot of fun playing this! :D Just watching everything become more and more crazy after each upgrade is so satisfying! Good job :) Some suggestions for improvements: I think the screenshake felt off, the menu shouldn't appear while I'm trying to place objects close to the right border and artstyle and sounds of the final upgrades could be improved :)
Really polished entry! This could definetely become a full game with some more work :)
I think you can simplify the game quite a bit without losing its appeal. Just see how much variety you can achieve with one stat and only add more stats when it's really necessary.
Also I didn't quite understand what the monster marker means
Nice platformer, pretty difficult though! Especially the cannons that follow your movement and the boss battle are really tough. I really like the graphics and sound design :) Great job for a compo entry! The "unlocking" doesn't really feel like unlocking though, more like normal progression in a platformer game.
@flashviper Thank you! :) Once my pet flubby produces offspring I can send you one!
I tried the game for a few times, but I never managed to get more than one generation :/ So I guess I missed quite a bit of content. With improved balancing and more feedback in audio and visuals this can become a really fun game :)
Wow, lots of content and really polished! Sounds, graphics and VFX are super nice. Well done :) Personally I find the texts pretty difficult to read though. Also, I can't jump with the up-arrow, only with 'W' andin the menu I can only use the arrows, not WASD - is that intentional?
The skeleton is cute :) I never collected the torso, just a skull with legs running around. The movement and collision (getting stuck at edges) could need some more polishing.
I liked the approach and the artwork on the cards! The game lacked a real merchant feeling though. I think it should be balanced in a way where all resources and trades get more expensive / valuable with playing and you usually earn more money by selling than you spend to buy. That you're actually making progress and can become a wealthy merchant instead of trying to barely earn enough to continue playing.
Wow, great interpretation of the theme and great humor! Also a nice visual style :) The one thing I didn't enjoy that much was the choice of standard music (elevator music was good). And a fullscreen for WebGL would be nice!
Wow, a great project! Really atmospheric, nice art and music and clever idea. I ended up not really using the cannons - jumppads and the (indestructible?) plus blocks are just way more effective while cannons destroy your own blocks. Maybe destroying asteroids could give you points as well. Some bigger parts to attach to your ship would also be nice.
I really like the idea, I also really enjoy this type of games :) Artystyle and sound are also really good.
Most cards just didn't really seem that useful to me - you basically only need swords or arrows and shields to make your way forward. I think with some more elements and actual reasons to use the cards this can become a nice puzzle game! :)
Also the aspect ratio was a bit weird - on my browser I had to scroll up and down to see the whole screen.
I like the particle visuals & the distorsion effect on the black hole :) My "universe" was never more than one growing planet though which eventually collapsed to a black hole - which suddenly disappeared at some point as well
I like the exploration of new crazy combinations (my favorites were pumpkin cow and creepy humanoid cow), graphics were really nice! I actually played it through to the end ;)
I'm not a fan of elements though which artificially slow down your progress - in this game the fact that you need to use multiple items for some tasks, especially the ones with a high production effort (like corn) is frustrating. Some other comments have already pointed this out. A solution could be to provide an alternative, easy way to obtain an item once you've unlocked it. Also I do like sarcastic games in general, I just think veganism is quite a controversial choice for a sarcastic topic.
Pretty artwork and nice mood with the music :) The controls could need more polishing, especially the jumping. Also the combat wasn't very intuitive and lacks feedback - somehow I defeated the boss while just sitting around in the cave :D
Great game! I loved the atmosphere, graphics and the music selection were really nice :) Also a lot of content and good level design! I didn't quite get the rules for the stones though - sometimes they would disappear, sometimes they bounce off after I defeated an enemy
Good approach, but the field of view is way too small which makes it really to orient yourself in the room and find the clues. Also the collision between the church benches seemed a little buggy
Beautiful artstyle, music and atmosphere! :) I also really like the setting and story of your entry. Really unfortunate though that the game was so difficult and you need to start over again everytime you lose. It prevented me from fully enjoying the experience :/ Also it's a bit weird that the character always faced towards you while he stands still (for example when you want to shoot the ball upwards to hit the button).
Great concept for a game! I played it through :) The quests are really engaging, the strategic depth is nice and there's a decent amount of variety. The only weak point are the graphics
@manyqaz Thanks a ton for the kind words and the suggestions! We're currently deciding which game we want to develop to a full release from the different prototypes we made, this is a serious contender :)
And I ensure you we made this complete game within the last three days, below is a glimpse of our ideation board ;)
2020-04-21 12_02_57-Keep it Alive, Online Whiteboard for Visual Collaboration.png
@staircase27a Thanks a lot for the great feedback! Skipping quests that are too easy is a good idea. The other points are good as well, we will see what we can do for a post jam version :)
@nerwerder @sigod Thanks a lot for the feedback! I updated the build to support widescreen displays, so give it another try if you like :)
@rolly Thanks for your feedback! :)
Regarding the disconnect to the theme: We started thinking about "keep it alive" in regards of keeping a civilisation alive. But after a while we fell in love with the tile placing mechanic and the setting, so we decided to prioritize simplicity and mechanics over the theme. Especially since we're also looking for a game we want to develop in a larger scale in the future. The theme was more of an inspiration to us that lead to the idea we realised in the end.
So now our connection with the theme is more of a "keep it going" ;)
Ha I think it beat the game! :D The swinging looks & feels really nice
Wow the amount of polishing is amazing! The game looks and sounds great. The slurpies feel, sound and look very "slurpy" too :D
The interaction isn't as exciting though, balancing the slurpie on blocks and pushing it around felt kind of tedious at times. Pushing it in just the right angle to throw it up into the air felt good though. I think if the input wasn't drag and drop but instead pushing keyboard buttons with the correct timing would work better to make it less fiddly.
Wow the graphics are top notch! Audio and mood are really nice too. Especially impressive since it was a compo entry o.O
The gameplay doesn't quite hold up to it though - it's pretty repetitive and depends on luck which cards you get. Also I think the cards with a three tile formation shouldn't cost three times as much as the single tile - otherwise the single tile is just always better than the multiple ones. I think if the bigger formations were cheaper it would help the balancing! Apart from that it's not always clear if you're in sight of a robot or not. Maybe you could make the feedback more obvious.
I think you should definetely continue working on the project and play around with balancing and a bigger variety of cards :)
The game looks and sound nice! I especially like the look of the glass pipes with lights flowing through them.
I didn't quite get the game though - I picked up the spirals and placed them under the falling lights, but then they aren't connected to the lamp anymore and just lose their light right away.
Also it was pretty difficult to control, I think controlling the robot in world space instead of rotating it and moving forward would work better.
Cute game, I love the aesthetics :) I didn't like the second level as much though since it was all trial and error. It would be cool if you would find some kind of challenge that keeps the meditative feeling.
I actually really like the idea of a brain storming simulator as a game! :) It worked on my PC, got me 4098% pumped :D
I think I would have prefered if you just had to draw connections between words, the challenge being to read, associate and remember words fast instead of additionally aiming with the grappling hook. This way you wouldn't have to click a word, then aim, then click again to form a connection, just drag a line from one word to the other. Pushing them away or drawing them closer depending on how well they fit is a nice idea!
I love the grumpy cat :D The music adds to the humor as well
Currently though the learning curve is extremely steep, I had to read the comments to figure out how to even get past the first button / yarn riddle. The next one is even harder and I eventually gave up. Oh and please don't use Z / X as input buttons, it's really awkward on an european keyboard.
Beautiful, very polished and meditative game :)
What I would like to have had is a sea slug that collects the coins for me. Also I'm sure you can find ways to introduce challenges to the game if you decide to develop it further - food dispenser etc. are already there, I see them being a necessity in the future instead of decoration. Also you could go the Zoo Tycoon route where each fish has different requirements for its surroundings (which plants it likes etc.) - I think there's a ton of potential!
