WOW! I saw your blogpost and your art instantly connected with me. A deckbuilder, what a brilliant idea.

Of course, as a developer; I tested your game; I tried misclicking but it always returned to me and kept me in shape.

This game, is fantastic. I actually love it. I'm still playing it.

What a great job, this is a brilliant compo entry and a possible winner in my book. Please keep adding on to this game after the LD ends. I'll see if I can beat it now.

pronomicalartist 2019-10-06 23:07

Cute graphics. It was not explained what the lightning bolt did. I really like the idea, and it somewhat fits the theme.

lord-404 2019-10-07 01:17

Good graphics and ui design, the game isn't that fun gameplaywise

randdir 2019-10-07 17:20

Really nice entry. Also graphics are well done and UI is present and tutorial. But guess few improve to sell it like sound, but good job. Keep it up pal !

valden 2019-10-08 08:29

A cool hybrid between a deckbuilder and a puzzle game. I think there is a lot of potential in this game. Well done !

belonzik 2019-10-08 13:35

Extremely well made and polished for a compo game, graphics work nicely as well.

negator2vc 2019-10-08 15:55

Excellent roguelike with deckbuilding included! Excellent graphics with excellent animations that don't annoy the player (are short and to the point). An excellent & polished entry!

drunkardwolf 2019-10-08 18:28

Excellent entry, saw it in the blog entry and the art work was an instant draw

wansou 2019-10-08 18:32

This. Is. Epic.

I love this game i beaten this twice already altough i hope you could add more cards and maybe some more levels

zakamana 2019-10-08 18:36

Thanks everyone for the feedback and nice words!

@wansou Thanks! I'm super excited about a few ideas for levels, cards and items. I even coded a basic level editor during the jam, but didn't get the time to use it...I'll wait until the 20days of the rating period are over before adding any other content, or maybe make a second version on itch...

wolfrug 2019-10-08 18:37

Polished, beautiful, excellent game design, wonderful deck-building puzzle. Nothing, as far as I can tell, to do with the theme. But a joy to play!

adngdb 2019-10-08 18:38

I love this game! I love card games, and the mix of deck building and puzzle game is great idea! It's a very polished entry as well, very good job, congratulations!

I did get a bug once where the game was just blocked and I couldn't do anything anymore, had to restart it. I also didn't like when I had to choose between the two of the same card after unlocking.

Other than that, man I'd love to play more levels of this!

skyeward 2019-10-08 18:40

Awesome game, lost twice and still stayed to play through to the end, few interesting mechanics for just a few days too! Great work.

mattwagar 2019-10-08 18:55

Easily one of the best games I've played for this jam. You should really build this into a full game! It would be insanely cool as a multiplayer game too. So cohesive, great art, simple concept but done amazingly. This game really could go places!

rayne 2019-10-08 19:00

I'd play more! This is a really cool entry. I think I bugged the cards a little bit when many things happened in the map.

sorecactus 2019-10-08 19:06

Great mechanic with a ton of polish, i'll definitely be following any further development on this

namnam 2019-10-08 19:08

Nothing to say, it's polished, the mechanics work well, retro graphics and sound design are simple and neat. Not really close to the theme so but who cares, it's a great game. I would love to see a complete game from this prototype.

clvp 2019-10-08 19:11

Very cool game! I really like it, played 12 times. But i have small bug in last game - i cannot do anything here.bug.PNG

mikado 2019-10-08 19:15

This game is brilliant! Audio is quite good (the background music becomes a bit boring at some point), graphics are nice, original and well made, and i really enjoyed the gameplay. UI is also good i think. Probably the best points in this game are graphics and gameplay.

amolker 2019-10-08 19:22

Very cool. I like the graphics, I like the music, I like the idea. But, I broke the game when the size of my hand became equal to six cards. At this point, something happened to the interface, and after the game completely stopped. However, I went through the game. I'm also not sure about the mechanics of reducing the size of the hand, given that the player is not limited in resources. And I also found a bug, when using the arrows on the last lower lock to the right of it, they show the initial frame of the animation and do not work any further.

inky 2019-10-08 19:24

WOW, this game!!! It's polished, the music is great, the art is wonderful, I love the aesthetic so much, and the deck-building is so satisfying. Surrounding my baby hearts with shields to keep them safe! I thoroughly enjoyed playing through the first level, you're an outstanding dev!

arkinrev 2019-10-08 19:49

That was a heck of a lot of fun in a game! I keep telling myself I should do a card game for one of these jams, and this makes me even more excited to try it. Great job, interesting mechanics, and executed well. Fun!

jahwffrey 2019-10-08 19:58

Now THIS I like. Simple to understand game with really interesting consequences and choices that change every playthrough. Well done!

On a different note, one one run I encountered a bug where a 'Consume' card didn't properly disappear after use and the game got into a weird state where I could use each of the cards in my hand once but they wouldnt leave my hand afterwards and I couldnt draw more cards. Just felt I should report this if you ever felt like coming back to this.

adliberum 2019-10-08 19:58

Super smart game and concept. Great work

zakamana 2019-10-08 20:04

Thanks everyone for the feedback and for reporting the bugs you encounter. I'll do my best to fix them!

fredbernardo 2019-10-08 20:15

Wow, it's a great game! I really liked the art and the gameplay!

asturk 2019-10-08 20:40

Wow, that's really an excellent Compo game. The art is really polished, music is really well done and gameplay is the most fun so far!!! Just one issue is that i got into a bug during the game that i could not use any of my cards and could't get any further... but it was ok for me since i could test the game enough to give a really good rating for this game (and my love for deckbuildings really helps too). Amazing job and congrats!!

owlycode 2019-10-08 20:41

This is a super polished game! As said above, I don't think it fits the theme. Otherwise this is great stuff. The only thing I did not understand is what the lightning icon does.

raphiell 2019-10-09 01:03

Very impressive. Definitely a top entry this ludum dare. Looking forward to more content!

Very Well done!

thatmalzan 2019-10-09 06:58

Amazing work! Found it on itch.io but there was no link to your ludum dare page so I had to do some creative googling to find and vote for you!

dinwy 2019-10-09 07:42

One of my colleague recommend the game to me. Good job!

joellikespigs 2019-10-09 08:19

Saw your blogpost and the was immediatly grabbed by the art style and overall aesthetic, this game oozes charm and plays incredibly well. Super impressed with how balanced it felt considering the short time frame. Though I did run into a situation where I got so many evil hearts that I was down to one card for a good chunk of the final round despite adding some crystal balls. I feel like the way this is handled good be looked into if you push it further, because with one card if I ended up with another evil heart, I'd have no luck ever getting more cards in my hand.

Despite that though I genuinely loved it, I played a good few rounds picking up different cards to see how they all handled

saucygames 2019-10-09 09:13

minesweeper meets roguelike very nice

arzi 2019-10-09 14:18

Wow, awesome mechanics and quite an achievement to create such a polished game in the compo!

The only complaint I have that the canvas is too tall for a full HD display I have to scroll the page up and down constantly.

redwiliax 2019-10-09 14:33

You win this Jam

gabas 2019-10-09 16:01

Oh man, so polish and simple, the tutorial was great, the color scheme amazing, i take a while to figure out how to play but i think i was just me, i love hte ui, the art. I the music is in my head while i'm writing this.

enver-arco 2019-10-09 18:45

Enjoyed reading your postmortum

atraxgames 2019-10-09 20:49

Best game of this jam i played so far. Mechanics are simple, fun and well executed.

almighty-games 2019-10-09 23:01

I'll be honest, I didn't really get what was going on, and I ended up quitting instead of trying to figure it out. The graphics were nice. The energy of the game met expectations. I just didn't feel drawn in enough to get through the initial learning curve.

leandroc 2019-10-10 01:00

This game is a lot of fun, wonderful art, fantastic gameplay. I loved the game.

danilo-freire 2019-10-10 03:00

This is really lovely! Congratz for tackling such a complex genre and coming up with a really cool finished game

The one thing I wish the game had more of was some opposing force, maybe enemies or hazards that were more dynamic instead of just responding to your actions. The way it is now I felt like I could just take my time and wait for my best cards.

Then again, balancing this kind of game and making sure everything fits takes a lot of time, and you guys already did a great job at it with this version! I'd love to see more of this game!

zanthous 2019-10-10 08:33

Extremely well made, but being a puzzle game and rng based at the same time seems like a confused setup to me

evlko 2019-10-10 08:45

Amazing game! I do like sound effects and art, hope to see more levels and probably mobile version (without ads of course). However, I guess it's too easy not to die

gamers-blood-entertainment 2019-10-10 08:46

Super awesome game! If this isn't number 1 I don't know what is...

coffeedrinkers 2019-10-10 08:56

BEST. GAME. OF. THE. JAM. I love everything about it. Please, release this. I need to play it on my phone and on the web. Already followed you on itch.io, waiting for full release! <3

andrea 2019-10-10 09:17

Amazing and very polished game, superb art and sound design, awesome concept! Can't wait to see more levels in the future, cause I'd love to play much, much more! Of course, there's this pesky Arrow bug that puts up once in a while, but it doesn't *always* fuck up the game :p Well done!

zakamana 2019-10-10 09:22

Thanks a lot for all the feedback! It's really *heart*warming to see you all enjoying the game. I'll definitely release additional levels, cards and fixes in a more complete version after the jam :smiley_cat:

bibiki 2019-10-10 09:22

I'm impressed! It's really amazing what you made here! Graphics and gameplay are pretty cool! I think it would be a perfect to make a post-jam version for the game :)

Even though I enjoyed the game such a lot, I've to say that I feel the music is too repetitive, when maybe in these games what you want is to focus on the gameplay itself. However, I like the sound design here. I think it fits very well the game :)

Congrats!

noobdev 2019-10-10 09:27

This game is just mind blowing. I live the art, it's simple but elegant. I would really love to play it with more levels and definitely more of those awesome cards.

gamefive 2019-10-10 09:43

20191010184053.jpg

Good game and Fun Game. I Expect

kuviman 2019-10-10 10:55

Really nice puzzle :)

tekses 2019-10-10 11:17

I absolutely loved your game. The reduced style really sells it and has really good feedback and a feeling of action in combination with the crisp soundtrack. The mechanics are cool and fast. I could sink hours in such puzzle games. Great job!

benjamin 2019-10-10 11:20

Great execution, and I totally dig this heart mechanic / sword / lock. I'm not sure about the deck building thing. I feel more like I'm getting random element ( like in tetris ), instead of really building a deck with specific abilities.

sacramentix 2019-10-10 11:52

I don't know how you can at this game ^^ but the graphics are good and the idea is interesting :)

ashashza 2019-10-10 12:13

This was fun. I was expecting to transition to a new level after unlocking my first lock, so it was a really nice surprise to see the level expand and see that my previous choices had consequences in future events.

m-dam 2019-10-10 14:01

This one has potential to be a full game! Amazing job!

bilalch213 2019-10-10 15:14

Superb puzzle game and amazing execution! Pixel art is really neat. Simple yet effective gameplay! Awesome fitting music and sounds. I completed the game and actually, wished that it has more levels to play. Do you hear me? We Need More Puzzles :D Bring it on!

Thank you for making this game. <3

ryuu 2019-10-10 16:27

This game is fantastic! Great job! The only complain I have is the game resolution that it's too large for my screen and I had to scroll to play the last level and a bug where the sword didn't attacked the thunder in one turn for some reason. Besides that, it's a very fun game!

xenoxygene 2019-10-10 17:21

Wow this is by far the best game I played from this jam! It fits the theme and has the potential to evolve into a fully fledged game with the addition of further mechanics and/or levels. Great job!

guilb 2019-10-10 18:45

Nice design, would love to see how you guys proceed with these game.

jusw85 2019-10-10 19:55

I loved the design, art, and music! Managed to beat it after failing once. Wasn't entirely sure what all of the tiles did, such as shield and bomb, and would've liked an explainer. Regardless, I managed to push through by getting lucky with arrows. Great entry overall!

euler-moises 2019-10-10 20:09

I like this kind of game! I think it is great to be a Mobile game. It is very polished! Congratulations!

This is our game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/45/soundscapes

oune 2019-10-10 20:27

Fantastic entry! Congrats!

brokenmirrormedia 2019-10-10 20:49

I enjoyed this game quite a bit, and could see it being expanded upon for sure, great work!

xeros 2019-10-10 21:57

Damn, would love to see it expanded with a bit of a narrative !

akusan 2019-10-11 02:06

So far the best game I have played for this jam! The gameplay is fun ingenious. The design is pretty good with difficulty scale not bad at all. It's a puzzle game but not stressful and very satisfying. The animations and art fit well. Music fits very well too. great job! Thanks for sharing.

cybersoftuk 2019-10-11 08:21

Really cool, i liked the simple colours and overall graphics style it helped to create a nice mood. Great UI too. Overall, pretty polished! Well done!

despdair 2019-10-11 08:58

Audio, graphics and innovation are pretty good and has a solid mechanics. Almost a finished game

mateusboga 2019-10-11 11:45

This was so cool! I love the mechanic of adding cards to your deck, it's super interesting. Well done!

mattias-cibien 2019-10-11 12:31

Wonderful game and nice graphics. Really liked playing it!

matt-rix 2019-10-11 14:07

This is *great*. Really well done. I have no idea how you managed to make the game this polished in 48 hours (there's even a tutorial?!) .

mharring 2019-10-11 19:21

Great puzzle game! Very polished and visually appealing. I would have loved to play longer! Also, some sound effects for each card would have been great (although, understandably, time may not have allowed). Well done!

saering 2019-10-11 21:12

Would be an amazing game if you decided to improve it and take it further ! Great entry

recursor 2019-10-11 21:13

Quite enjoyable and engaging littel game. The concept is simple enough to grasp and yet still provides an enjoyable challenge. All that is missing is more cards.

miltonnh25 2019-10-12 03:30

Great job on the game. It was a really cool concept and it was executed well. I enjoyed the art style and the music as well. One thing I would suggest is making sure that the 2 card choices were different from each other since I got the choice of the same two cards a few times. Also I felt the arrows were the best card by a decent margin. I would love to see you expand the game :)

nickykendy 2019-10-12 04:44

This game blows my mind I gotta say! The graphic, the sound, the feedback, every detail polished so well! And the concept is great! I love it! As a card game, it lacks of some, I don't know, strategy choice? or presure? I think. I know that I must keep the heart whole, but the more I play, the less danger I feel, it makes me less carefully every time I pick a card. But the whole game is absolutely astonishing!

tofuman 2019-10-12 06:48

this is really spot on. amazed by the idea, and everything is simple yet not easy. rules are easy to understand, and works with the theme very well.

oneki 2019-10-12 09:25

Full fledged. With games like these one always wonders, whether it has been an idea brewing in your head for a while and it just needed to come out.

kaeveris 2019-10-12 11:34

This is amazing! I love the puzzles in this game, easy to understand mechanics, great take on the theme, amazing sounds, awesome graphics! Perfect game

lunardust 2019-10-12 14:08

fantastic game! mechanic, art, music...everything is perfect. best game of this jam i played. love the idea that all cards have to connect to the heart.

strange-nebula 2019-10-12 16:39

The game is incredible, the only regret I have is: only one level. great job!

khud0 2019-10-12 17:40

Incredible game!

I love the way you re-invisioned card games and even though I am not into that genre, I was glued to the screen and highly enjoyed the game. Forgive me for that, but I believe the music doesn't match the pace of the game (it's good, but it is very "active", I'd say). Also, I like that your cards don't cost mana or anything like that and that there are cards that hurt you if you misplace them.

Also, I want to share this screenshot with you. At this point, my heart became impenetrable and I could easily finish the game. I think that something should be done to the "Shield" card. https://i.imgur.com/kXQEvy3.png

On a side note, huge, huuuuge thank you for sharing the source code! :)

martynas 2019-10-12 18:45

One of the best I've played so far

danilo-freire 2019-10-12 20:47

Very inspiring, please continue investing some time on that one! Could be a perfect indie console title! <3

frenchie 2019-10-12 22:26

Really awesome game! I wish it was longer! This definitely has potential beyond the jam

vincentvincent 2019-10-13 14:02

Really smart one! The graphics and music works so well!bravo:)!

yaen 2019-10-13 14:12

Cool to see you also made a card game! I liked the simple yet effective graphics. The gameplay was engaging and it got somewhat challenging towards the end. The lightning bolts were definitely the item that added the biggest challenge.

baturinsky 2019-10-13 14:37

Look ofarrows icon made me think they'll shoot diagonally

purrseus 2019-10-13 14:54

I can't wait for the postjam version! This is so addicting and fully realised! I call winning potential! 5/5 easiliy

fireslash 2019-10-13 21:22

Woa this is great.

I did ultimately hit a bug, in which an arrow card was placed but didn't fire (It got stuck at the first animation frame, and no projectiles seemed to spawn; or perhaps they did spawn but simply didn't move?). There might be a reason for this mechanically but I couldn't figure out one. Luckily it didn't block the tile so I could just place a sword instead and still cleared it.

Graphics are simple yet lovely. Mechanics are solid, though it might be worth revisiting some of them (Baby hearts seem useless, for example) but there's so much to love here I'm mostly just excited to see where you go with it.

diptoman 2019-10-13 21:59

This is FANTASTIC! Loved the puzzle and RNG aspects of it at the same time, and it's incredibly polished in every department. I just wished I got some more of those Consume cards because I kept getting Shields forever, but that's just RNGesus. Great stuff!

benpeterson 2019-10-14 01:07

Wow 10/10 man this is awesome it already feel like a finished product

jeremy-ryan 2019-10-14 02:09

Great compo entry! The UI and little animations are particularly nice. There isn't a whole lot of variation with the cards that currently exist, so the gameplay got a little stale after a while, but the concept was really neat and I could see it becoming a full game with a little further development.

drevilbrain 2019-10-14 05:08

I really want to see a more fleshed out version of this, but it already feels like a pretty finished game. Amazing gameplay loop already.

reheated 2019-10-14 09:38

Overall: Clever, enjoyable gameplay, and exceptionally polished.

Fun: Great. I wish it was longer. The rules of this game lead to an interesting (but not too hard) puzzly challenge. (In my opinion, if you call the game roguelite, players might expect random maps?)

Innovation: Yeah! A very creative new ruleset for the game.

Theme: Sure.

Graphics: Beautiful graphics. Everything is so polished - things like the spell effects, and moving the cards around. Really impressive.

Audio: Very nice!

Humor: N/A? OK, there's cutesy faces, but they don't crack any jokes.

Mood: Nice! The graphics, sound and gameplay work really well together.

zakamana 2019-10-14 10:21

Thanks everyone for leaving reviews and playing the game!

@reheated thanks for the detailed feedback  indeed, in its current state, it's not really roguelite. It was actually intended to be, and the random map system is half coded, but I cut it before the end of the jam as I was running out of time. I forgot to update the descriptions and texts...The final game is intended to have procedural elements/maps though. Regarding Humor, I kinda forgot to remove it from the rating as well haha...

yorsh 2019-10-14 11:40

Feels super good to play, and it looks and sounds great ! Impressive stuff.

I found a bug by playing the consume an item card on, I believe, the item spawned by card that makes you draw. I could still play other cards but the card played wouldn't go away (and I couldn't draw any new card)/

dimesto52 2019-10-14 11:44

it lacks some level but the beginning is promising

vcesauron 2019-10-14 15:04

Man, this is good. Imagine it with a bigger pool of cards and a story to ground it all, would be so cool.

I miss more variations of attack cards/patterns. Also, drawing two equal cards to choose from when the next level starts is unnecessary, I guess.

Something to move elements on the board would be an interesting addition to design as a whole. I hope you're considering it! Congratulations, man. Great game! :)

dk5000p 2019-10-14 16:00

I enjoyed playing and wanted more levels. It wasn't exactly clear what the bombs or lightning exactly do and seemed like the shields can take any amount of damage.

chelog 2019-10-14 16:01

This is an amazing game, people above have said much stuff so I can't really add anything. I believe there's a bug when using particularly arrow card, the others seem to work fine

gamebuilder 2019-10-14 17:38

It took me a while to learn how some of the cards work, but then it became challenging in an interesting way.. I like the feeling of expansion.

yomissmar 2019-10-14 17:56

This is great. Cute, simple, clean art, puzzly mechanics, and deckbuilding. Lovely stuff. The music's really cool too, it doesn't get tiring for such a short loop. If I had to criticize anything, the more puzzly stuff needs either a bit more work or more variety, but it's a really cool game. Good job!

nsadie 2019-10-14 18:10

Very impressive and well polished! Would love to see a fully fleshed out version of this!

sean-s-leblanc 2019-10-14 20:56

Nice entry! It looks and sounds great, although I think it needs more mechanics that challenge the player directly - right now you can pretty much only lose via your own poor planning. As-is, it's fun for the scope of the game, but something that added more pressure (e.g. enemies) would go a long way towards making it more interesting.

Despite that, it's a really impressive entry; I hope this one does get expanded in the future!

ithildin 2019-10-15 16:28

Brilliant entry! Game mechanics are quite original, and learning the interactions can have some surprising effects. Both visuals and sound felt really polished too, even more so for a compo entry (The baby hearts!).

I think I got stuck on my first playthrough (got swarmed by shield cards ), but I managed to beat it on my second and then I felt smart about it.

This concept has a lot of potential, I'll be looking forward to more levels.

Congratulations! :)

majadroid 2019-10-15 19:39

The music is just awesome, and so is your whole game. Very nice and unique gameplay. Realy fun to play. I am waiting for more levels!

goudagames 2019-10-15 19:41

Amazing! Best entry I've played so far. Great music, great graphics and great gameplay. Really fun to explore the interactions of the different cards and figure out how to play optimally.

asfdfdfd 2019-10-15 20:02

I strongly dislike puzzles but your game is amazing and i finished in without pauses!

brandon-js-lea 2019-10-15 20:22

More often than not, it felt like I was just biding time. I get that that's a part of the game but I felt the ratio of turn killing to actual progress was a bit too slanted. Like, it was more time killing than strategy.

Overall though, interesting ideas and very charming.

jiri-hysek 2019-10-15 21:00

I like this kind of games and your's is great :) I like the artstyle, fitting music and to be honest I didn't see a lot of games like this in this jam.. well this is the first one so far :)

philomory 2019-10-16 02:05

This was a great idea and I'd love to see it expanded even further. I'm not too sure that it relates to the theme very much, but I don't really mind one way or the other. The mechanics are cool, the graphics, while simple, look nice, the sound track and sfx are great, all in all, really well done. I'm curious to see how you could expand this to make a more fully-fledged game, as it does feel like it starts to get pretty easy after a certain point. I look forward to seeing what you come up with (if you decided to expand it, of course).

Artstyle reminds me of Deltarune / Undertale. Like it!

I had a bug though where the arrows din't shoot after being places on the board

foodzilla 2019-10-16 05:25

This was really cool. I wanted to do a 'different' card game for an LD some time, and this hit exactly on the style of thing I was looking for. You did a great job.

ferdi 2019-10-16 13:27

Really polished entry. This card game is original, nice and fun to play and it is awesome you got the time to include a tutorial at the beginning. Added to my itch.io collection. Great job !

siimer 2019-10-16 17:01

Visually and audio wise it was pretty great. The game itself was also really fun to play, although it got a bit boring near the end.

jamesolivermusic 2019-10-16 19:25

Nice! I liked the puzzle elements. Awesome graphics, with some real nice polish! Would make a fun mobile game, but lacking a real challenge. Maybe mix up the music a little as well? I look forward to seeing what comes next :)

The most fun game in this jam, nice visuals, nice audio, and the game loop is such a brilliant idea! I was a bit confused on what the shields exactly did and also the game was very easy to strategize around. I really want to see more of this game in the future!

tort60091 2019-10-16 22:31

I really like game design in the game, smart work!

dock-frankenstein 2019-10-17 06:00

Wow, it's so creative!

croewens 2019-10-17 09:53

Hey, @zakamana !

👉 Things I liked about your submission: - General vibe is on point (from graphics to small little vfx)! - Polished game wtf - Web version

There aren't a whole lot of cards atm, so once you figured out the mechanics, it was pretty easy to beat. But overal a top 10 submission in my book!

I only now realised this was a COMPO submission!! I'm expecting a post mortem!!

mykola 2019-10-18 06:30

Great game overall, I especially like the soundtrack. Well done!

pedro-rosa 2019-10-18 18:57

Cool game, I loved the concept. It is super fun to play and the graphics and a game feel are amazing.

Very nice rougelike game. I really enjoyed it. Music was great and the presentation was awesome.

One thing I did realize that should be looked into: The corrupted heart. It should probably go down to zero cards and lose the game or something, because when it capped at 1 card I could just spam corrupted hearts and then play whatever card showed up. I ended up my second playthrough with about 7 or 8 corrupted hearts on the grid... felt a bit like cheating :) Add the crystal ball to that and I still had 3 cards in hand.

Would definitely like to see this concept expanded on, though. Really like what you did here.

I am stuck here-

Game has good art and music. Gameplaywise I can say that I don't understand how I can possibly lose, I guess you need to work on core gameplay a bit more.

Very good one, keep it up!

elemental-zeal-game-studios 2019-10-20 23:30

One of my favourite entries so far. Glad to see a mention at the end of it being expanded to see where the mechanic could go next. Great job.

solah 2019-10-21 11:32

Wow, it's really great. The gameis just too easy because it lacks of opponents threatening your hearts. However, I love the graphics, sound design music and concept. Well done!

yazara 2019-10-21 12:42

I really like the idea, I also really enjoy this type of games :) Artystyle and sound are also really good.

Most cards just didn't really seem that useful to me - you basically only need swords or arrows and shields to make your way forward. I think with some more elements and actual reasons to use the cards this can become a nice puzzle game! :)

Also the aspect ratio was a bit weird - on my browser I had to scroll up and down to see the whole screen.

bungalow 2019-10-22 07:37

Incredible game with a really good palette and art. It also had a super cool concept and interesting take on the theme. Awesome job!

anion-z 2019-10-22 23:51

Wow, the game is very polished, and its an amazing entry for compo, sounds, animations, music everything gave a great atmosphere. Only complaint - not enough levels xD

xatulu 2019-10-24 14:47

Wow, what a game. Really enjoyable. Awesome art (that somehow feels very familiar) and great gameplay, lots of polish. Feels more like a Jam Game then a Compo game, you are awesome!

untitled-studios 2019-10-24 23:30

Real awesome game! tons o fun

strega 2019-10-25 05:30

Really cool game! Love the art and music. Really polished transitions and tutorialization. Felt like I had to cycle my hand a bit towards the end to get to the last lock. Would be interesting to see how this game evolves if you decided to develop it more. Great job!

virimine 2019-10-26 10:59

This was so goood!! Nice art too! Just once it froze and I had to restart but otherwise I had so much fun playing it! Awesome game! I'd love to play more levels of it! Great job!

hunttis 2019-10-27 07:03

Great entry, I immediatelly got addicted to this one and can see the potential for much more.

The game is intuitively understandable, which is pretty rare for compo-entries, but it gives the game great playability as you don't have to try and figure out cryptic mechanics. Nice work.

I hope you continue working on this. Enjoyed it a lot.

taylor-reynolds 2019-10-27 21:17

Amazing style! The art and sound is very polished.

6smith 2019-10-27 22:38

There's a bug that prevents arrows from being fired in the 5th zone:

keith-wang 2019-10-28 03:32

Never played something quite like this before, one of the funniest game I've played in LD45. There is a tiny bug that sometimes you cannot put item on available block, you have to click on something else then click back to do it.

unlockingcube 2019-10-29 00:43

You did well on all of this. I would hope to make a game this polished in a month. You could sell this. Good job!

filogc 2019-10-29 01:16

Love the style dude!

jordantanner 2020-04-06 21:19

@zakamana Hey man, just played your game since I'm just bored waiting around for Theme Slaughter to start. Super solid entry! I was wondering, what technique (or tool) did you use for things like the tutorial and generally moving cards around the screen? Are you simply using Lerp, Translate, or something else? Thanks, great entry!

zakamana 2020-04-07 15:59

@jordantanner thanks :) Usually, I use either : - hard-coded Lerp with some easings - an Animator with the different movements/steps as animations - or the DOTween plugin, which is quite nice

I'm sure the cards' movement is hard-coded, but I think I used an Animator for the tutorial.

Cheers!
