It's a cool concept but could have been executed better with snapper gameplay!

It's a cool concept but could have been executed better with snapper gameplay!
I'll join in in saying that the tutorial was too in-your-face. I also died a lot because of misclicks.
Other than that, nice game with fun mechanics and a pretty good level of polish!
Loved every second of it! Great little game!
It's unfortunate that you weren't able to put more time into this game. In its current state it feels pretty broken, I was confused as to what was happening most of the time and quit because of it. The screen just kept jumping randomly.
Very nice game feel, the jiggling is so nice!
I have no idea what's going on tho lol
I liked the atmosphere that was created! However I have some problems with the gameplay. The unusual controls create tension but the nature of the game makes it easy to get lost. So if you get lost it's extremely frustrating since you can't really get anywhere due to the controls and you just run out of power and die. I would also have liked it if the light and sonar buttons were on the number keys above WASD. It was difficult to reach space and C in a pinch.
Like this one! Nice game feel, very polished. The way you made it all on one screen is really cool!
Some suggestions: - The cursor is nearly untrackable (too small) and it seems to be offset from where you'd expect it to be - Clicking the mouse repeatedly is extremely straining on the fingers, a button press or holding the mouse would be nicer.
I don't like arena games but still, it's quite good for a game jam!
The screenshake is a bit too harsh and it would be nice to have some progression but other than that it's a pretty enjoyable game!
The acceleration behaviour on the player is very hard to control and the shovel is too small. These two things taken together really make this game quite frustrating.
The controls are clunky but the presentation is nice. I couldn't really figure out why I had to replay the same two levels over and over though.
It's got some issues with visuals bing unclear but it's got a great mood!
- the controls are far too floaty. the deceleration is very difficult to control - the background music is too repetitive and drony, doesn't set a an enjoyable mood - the mixed artstyle looks confusing, the art should be consistent - the lack of sound is very unsatisfying - the theme is unclear - the physics are wonky. the character sinks into the landscape all the time. - the 2 blocks at every jump exacerbate the bad physics and make jumping a chore
It's honestly not a fun game but I hope that you'll keep working on games regardless
It's got a good amount of polish but the controls are too clunky to be enjoyable. :/
It is funny though!
The mechanic has some promise I think but where is the theme represented in the gameplay?
Wow I'm very impressed with the amount of polish and content you were able to achieve with this entry. I also like how you implemented the theme idea with the entire adventure map and levels shrinking progressively.
Whenever I play a new game from the jam I'm always very skeptical at first because I don't know how good the game is going to be but with this one that feeling gave way to enthusiasm about the game world very quickly. I wanted to explore the map and unlock the upgrades in the shop. After many tries however, I was starting to get frustrated with the movement controls and enemy behaviour and lost interest.
I had fun playing this! If the gameplay was snappier and the game was easier to read visually it would be a lot better overall!
I have to admit that I couldn't really figure out how to play it. The idea seems promising though.
I can't say that I understood the game but it's certainly intersting
Well developed mechanic, fits in with the theme really well, I really felt like I was running out of space!
The Windows XP screen was a nice touch :D
The game itself is a bit hard though and the tutorial could have been a bit more inegrated! The theme could have been better integrated as well!
@neemos Aw, I'm sorry. :( It probably won't run on older systems because I was using the HD Rendering Pipeline. I didn't have a lot of time to optimize it better, either. I guess adding LODs and Object Pooling would have improved it a lot.
@moo I intended the player to stop the wall with the barries that can be placed with E or the B-Button on a joystick.
@thecodedragon They break the floor, the idea was that there should be some secondary task that the player should perform apart from placing barries
@shredmer That's because holding X will activate a hidden collision geometry in front of the character that's supposed to make it easier to grab the metal balls. I thought I had disallowed collision between that thing and the other colliders
Wow the game is very polished! My only criticism is that the movement is kinda janky as soon as there are a lot of lava puddles because of the character hitbox.
Nice level of polish on the UI! I just wish that the controls were a lot more fluid. What I'd also criticize is that the theme wasn't respected very much.
We're all that little box that gets hit with the god-space laser sometimes
Out of everything I've played so far this is one of my favorites! Really satisfying gameplay, if a bit hard to grasp at first (the perspective isn't clear right away, since it's orthographic)
I HATE YOU SODABOI
Only criticism I have is that the game doesn't make it very clear what the lose/win conditions are.
@shredmer You could just display a text like "scrub the screen to stay alive"
You can really see that a lot of passion went into this! My main criticism is that the core gameplay is not diverse enough.
Enjoyed the humor in this one! But after filling all the storage I had no idea what to do and died.
Wow, very impressed with this one! The polish is amazing and the gameplay is really fun!
Extremely cruel subject matter but I grinned the entire time I was playing it. What I noticed is that it's much harder to keep clicking the right arrows when the character is going upwards.
Really liked this one, I wish you'd had spent more time on ironing out the kinks though :)
I am the legendary fart masterrrr!
Aside from the silly theme the controls could really use a lot more work!
Very impressed with this! Amazing level of polish, I enjoyed playing it and stayed until the end.
I thought the combat was a bit tedious but the game is a well done homage to Link's Awakening!
Nice visuals! Not sure how the theme is integrated though...
I played for a short time and enjoyed it! The screen is very small and busy but I like the art you did!
At first it looked really promising but I was very disappointed when the game was confusing and hard to control. It wasn't clear what the goal was or how I control my ship properly.
Unfortunately your game suffers from trial and error gameplay, where nothing is really clear until you die. Even though the character does the mario jump animation, you cannot kill enemies by jumping on their head - you die instead. also the lava was very hard to see so i just walked right into it. the background music is awful.
BUT I like the sprites!
Thanks for the feedback everybody!
I was trying to implement more mechanics and content but I barely made it to the deadline unfortunately.
Had to read the comments here to understand that you can unlock new buildings by clicking on the icon. I felt that the pacing was way too slow and resetting the island everytime wasn't that fun. The background music is gastly to be honest ^^
Still, I like the concept and the visuals!
I really liked the audio design but the controls were very hard to get used to. I would have preferred more context sensitive controls and gamepad support.
Not a fan of this type of game but making the sheep explode is fun
You should have credited the fact that the visual assets were not yours.
The gameplay itself needs a lot of improvment, there is almost no feedback to the player's actions.
Bought every cat as soon as it came up - is this ok?
This one has potential to be a full game! Amazing job!
I wish the gun was a bit more responsive and the characters easier to see against the background but I still enjoyed playing!
I really love the world map art! I wish the game made me feel a bit more feedback though, thats very important for a clicker game like this.
I like the gameplay concept but the pacing is far too slow! Enjoyed the atmosphere
I like that the cat is literally stuck in a loop. It was a bit too difficult for me.
Cool to see a creepy game!
Puzzle games are not my thing but I liked it!
Sorry about the camera controls. I struggled with the settings a lot, it's probably better to just not move the camera at all, it tracks the player fairly well
I patched the game and lowered the sensitivity.
@kaldrin thank you for the review! I realized all of the problems with the controls I just didn't have enough time to fix it all :(
The barrier does indeed adjust its speed based on how far/close you are!
Could't figure out how to play :/
Most well executed example of the 'ghost' mechanic that I've seen this jam! This would be a good candidate for a full game!
Cute!
Very good!
Wow I would love to play a full version of this game! Best entry so far for me!
I'm getting flashbacks to Papers Please - well done jam game! very polished! the fan drove me nuts!
I am really intruiged by the mechanics but I'm afraid it was very hard to get into this game. I couldn't really figure out what to do in level 2. I also didn't like the extreme clickiness of the game.
The game has a nice atmosphere but the kinesthetics and responsiveness really need to be improved. I gave up after a while because there is no way to orient yourself in this completely dark maze. There are no incentives to keep you going.
It's fun! Although I wasn't very good at it.
It's a very promising concept and the most immediate way I can think of to make it better is to greatly improve the depth perception. I missed a lot because the distance of the projectile is very hard to estimate.
Awesome visual design, very well done! Very unique and enchanting. The gameplay is obviously a bit too simple but you could make a full game with this as a starting point.
I really enjoyed the game's visual design! I loved how the eyeballs begin to stare back at you! As for the gameplay, I had a choppy framerate and the jumping mechanic was functioning poorly. I also didn't like the pacing of the game, it is far too slow. A faster progression towards a more interesting payoff would have been better! Locating the alarms aurally was also a bit difficult as they were very quiet and their sound didn't have very good spatialization.
@swordmage I haven't started rating and playing yet, that's why my game isn't being shown to other jammers in the queue. To be honest, I'd recommend you wait until I have fixed the graphical errors (some prominently visible shaders did not compile correctly). I should be able to get it to work by the end of the week.
@baptiste-lnq Sorry about the camera, I am trying to investigate that too. I really tried to fix everything but I barely made the deadline.
@swordmage @maytch @baptiste-lnq Hey everyone! I fixed the graphics and input bugs and am now using a trusted uploader. If you want, you can play the game now!
@swordmage you can just click the X in the corner, you do not need to make an account
@swordmage I might continue the setting in the next jam!
It was alright.
Points of critique: the camera needs to show more of the scene, otherwise the player cannot anticipate obstacles and enemies; the gun sounds need more juice; adding cooldowns to pistol-like weapons is not a good idea. it should shoot as fast as you can click.
Under the cute surface this game is kinda grim! It's a bit of a miss on the theme imo but I certainly enjoyed the game. Dog needs to go to anger management. To improve the game I'd work on the character controls and make the pacing a bit snappier!
@davekingcool My idea was that you kinda have to hurry towards the inevitable, instead of delaying it.
@davekingcool Hm, haven't considered it like that before. Maybe the theme is better implemented than I thought.
It was quite fun for a bit! For improvement I'd work on the character controller.
A very fun entry but the time is way too long and the mechanic far too hard on my finger! That is a brutal amount of clicking necessary. To improve the game I'd make the time much shorter and the vomit removal a 1 click. Bonus points for being able to pick up the cats. meow
It's a nice concept, unfortunately I can't figure out how to get past the looping. I only got to the third checkpoint via a bug that lets you accelerate really fast right after the respawn animation. I'd make red trail dissipate after a short duration. controls are confusing, better suited for a controller. You don't really need the mouse click since its just a directional input and also holding the button all the time is also redundant.
I really appreciate the ingame tutorial. It would have been nice for the character to have a run animation.
Well that was grim. Especially since the descent into the dark was inevitable.
Did it first try! What a funny entry. Really reminds me of other games with onerous mechanics.
I was definitely bald at the end
Atmospheric and unique but a bit boring. Could use more complexity and faster pacing.
Wow! Very well done for such a short time! This could become a real game if you improved the handling of the character a bit more. It is pretty good already but maybe feels a bit too difficult to aim right. Adding some bounciness to the platforms would also greatly improve the gamefeel in my opinion!
It was a bit too simple for my taste, but it was fun for a bit!
The best part is being forced to incinerate yourself.
I quite liked the game it sure gave me a lot of stress but the theme is well implemented. The item grabbing is a bit difficult once everything starts to clutter up the floor and it quickly becomes impossible. Maybe the character is a bit too slow. Or one could lean into this as a mechanic and increase the drudgery in a fair and interesting way, like Papers Please.
Nice! You did a great job with the controls, it feels very polished! I was getting annoyed by the jump sound, some pitch variation or something would have been nice!
I liked the background track and the overall feel of the game. It's a promising concept and could become a real game with more added complexity!
The visuals are very endearing, I am quite a fan of the paper technique! As you said yourself, there is hardly any gameplay. To get the game going along though I would first make the hedgehog a lot faster and add a more expressive animation!
This is one is a bit rough around the edges. it's very hard to estimate when a plane will be destroyed and drop the "bridge". It could use a lot more improvement before you can say if this is a good concept.
I managed to survive as the donut and escaped beyond the bounds of the house. While I was playing I was thinking "mate don't do it dave". Quite a fun little game even though it is too easy to get stuck and I would have never thought that a donut could have such heavy steering.
I found it kind of frustrating to be honest
Wow, very polished visuals! However it was difficult to read the interface because the elements are so huge. I also didn't understand the rules for where the buildings can go and where they can't go, mostly placing stuff at random. Displaying the "influence" of the buildings would have solved this problem.
Also, I didn't really understand where the 2 incompatible genres were in this game.
Wow, very well done, I am impressed! However the game would have benefitted from a more informative UI (move points for example and movement range) and snappier controls.
Suddenly Cthulu outta nowhere! I really liked the atmosphere in this one though the game doesn't flow very nicely at the moment. Hotkeys would make it a lot better already!
I really like the concept, I wish the camera would be more zoomed out so that planning is possible.
Bit too difficult for my taste but I really think this is a cool way to handle "turn based" in real time!
I liked it! I just wished the hitbox for the brickwall was a little more forgiving, otherwise quite a polished entry for a game jam!
Impressive amount of content, I wish it was a lot more focused on the genre mashup though. You haven't really mixed the genres.
