I like it, I could only get to 40k though :( I feel like Sodaboi is using a perlin noise movement, but he always seems to outwit me Really great use of the theme, gameplay was fast and exciting. The combo scoring and difficulty ramp are really well balanced. And obviously I love the art and music, especially the cannon animations.
Wooo nice artstyle. The game itself is pretty simple but the art was definitely a plus for me.
I HATE YOU SODABOI
Only criticism I have is that the game doesn't make it very clear what the lose/win conditions are.
loved the mechanics really had me rushing to clean the screen the whole time also. also loved the simplicity of the controls pretty good all around
Cool gameplay and graphics. It would make a great mini game boss battle.
Minor complains: - Soda bubbles feel bit too static on the screen and overlaps in the same place sometimes. - Music is well... interesting  - Damage shouldn't have the same color as bubbles - No ammo counter and 'i got hit' indicators.
@wesxdz - 40K is seriously an amazing score! I can only get to 20K usually. Thank you for the kind words I'm glad you enjoyed it!
@m-dam - The game ends when the screen fills up with the green soda bubbles. Your health bar is indicating how full the screen is of bubbles, and as you wipe them away the health comes back. We could have definitely made that more clear!
@titos2k - Thank you! Definitely would love to make the soda bubble generation feel more natural in the future. I think the damage you're talking about is probably the combo numbers that increase your score. You're definitely right, we'd love to make those numbers much more exciting and clear later on. Thank you for your awesome feedback =)
New high score: 82,490!
Thanks for the feedback everyone! Here are my follow up questions:
@m-dam - Do you have any suggestions for how we can improve this? My only inclination is to make the health bar taller.
@titos2k - We plan to improve the bubbles so they feel less static. I will also look into making sure they don't overlap. I agree it can be strange when they overlap. What do you mean exactly by 'i got hit' indicators? As the screen fills with bubbles, the hp bar fills as well. Once it is full the player dies. Then hits on Sodaboi show the combo bonus points. Perhaps there is something we did not make clear enough.

@shredmer 'i got hit' i mean like maybe the bar should be animated better or flash on rise. Hard to spot when things get dangerous. Especially when bubbles overlaps.
@shredmer You could just display a text like "scrub the screen to stay alive"
@titos2k , @m-dam - Good ideas, thanks guys! We will make this more clear

Really liked the art and the music! Was a little confusing as to what I was supposed to do and what happened when I died, but I came back and read the comments and figured it out. Solid
Wow, this was incredibly fun. The art and music are fantastic too. I love that you guys came up with a such a condensed gameplay loop, and feels like you spent a lot of time and effort refining it and it really shows! The art is adorable, the music is awesome (and the way it gets more intense at higher point values is sick). Most importantly, though, playing it just feels like a blast. You guys hit the theme spot on too. Fantastic job, and good on you for spelling boy correctly.
This game made my hand tired... and I only got to 9000. Screen Shot 2018-08-14 at 11.15.13 AM.png
I had fun with this game, it was very challenging, but not too challenging to make it unplayable. The audio-visual aspects of the game blended together very well. You guys came up with a very fun idea, well done!
Also, thank you for spelling 'boi' the correct way :)
Awesome game! It was a cool concept and was fun to play! I only got to 5236 though... The graphics are great, and the music fits well with the situation! Nicely done!
Sodaboi's greatest enemy is multitasking. Hilarious game! And the gameplay is quite unique.
Very fun game. Challenges your multi-tasking skills to the limit.
High difficulty, but I really like the graphics. Also the music pretty much fits the game's art style. Although it gets annoying after a while. Well done!
Nice, fun, compact! The art and music are great, and the concept is original. I didn't find it super engaging though; the limitation on the fire rate for my cannon, combined with the uniformity of wiping bubbles off the screen, gave it little replay value for me personally.
The game is fun. The concept is really unique. There are a lot of things you have to think about at the same time. Also I think the screen may be cut off at the top and bottom, or else there is no way to keep track of your score in real time. Overall, cool game!
Very interesting art style and the gameplay was simple but fun.
It's one of the best games of this ludum that I played until now, nice music, an original idea, and really addictive. You both did a good job, it's a nice game considering the 72 hours limit.
Thanks for the kind words @holy !
@mateusboga The game resolution is 960x540 so I'm not sure if you are playing on a device with lower resolution or why it would be cut-off. I can't seem to replicate this issue!
@sam-estep The key is to hit Sodaboi continuously. By hitting him you are able to fire immediately and this is where the bulk of the points are scored. Otherwise, you are punished with a cannon reload. On the upside, reloading is a good time to switch your focus to clearing your screen of bubbles to restore "health".
@frittatenbank - There is a difficulty curve to this one but once you get the hang of it you can continue to improve your recent high score!
Gameplay is pretty awesome, but the audio may slightly be too loud. What I did find confusing was the rate of cannon fire, because it seemed that I could keep firing if I was on a streak, but not if I missed.
My score: score.PNG
Audio was cool and I liked that it was two games in one: managing the bubbles and shooting the cannon.
Love this take on the theme. Although my brain was refusing to multi-task, and my initial scores were horrible, I wanted to keep playing. I like the art too, but I think the scores popping up on hitting Sodaboi could be bigger in size, and of a different colour than the bubbles. I couldn't easily tell if I had hit successfully.
All in all, it's quite polished and well executed.
I may have encountered a bug [on chrome]. If I Move the cannon left, it gets stuck on the left corner of the screen, and won't move to the right. And it seems like there are two cannons, instead of one. Here's a screenshot- 2018-08-15.png
Had a lot of fun playing this on stream. Very solid entry for the first game you've programmed. I enjoyed the take on the theme a lot. It was a fun challenge splitting my focus between clearing out the screen and shooting to get a score. It felt so rewarding when I could line up the shot and follow him to chain the combos in.
One critique I have is that he moves sometimes a bit too random. With focus being split between him and clearing the screen, sometimes I would find I'd follow to line up the shot only to have him turn the other direction right when I shot. Just a small thing, and I'm sure playing it more I'd get accustomed to it.
Audio was really good, enjoyed it a lot, fit very well into the game.
Overall a solid entry and I hope you continue to pursue making games, and continue to work and develop this game as well.

Great game! My highscore was I think around 14k?
Awesome assets and cool mechanics! I just wished there was a way to temper with the cannon speed. Sometimes it felt like just chasing him then he suddenly changes the direction and there we are chasing him again.
Also, I don't know if it's my browser problem (chrome) but I can't see the top of the screen, I didn't know there was a health bar until I saw the screenshots. And finally, it took me some time to realize I could just send a whole chain of cannonballs after the first hit

Cheers!
Funny game. Cool art:)
It's really fun, with a great music! My right arm hurts now, you can be proud of you. Good job, it's a solid entry, and a fun little arcade game. Graphics are lovely.
Loved the music and the pixel art vfxs. The gameplay is simple but fits the theme well. I had a hard time multitasking though.
Great entry anyway!
Love the music the game is really challenging
I love the cool graphics and the idea! But my hands are really ache to control the space bar and touch pad at the same time orz
nice art style! as always ;)
Oh this game was fun! The art is fantastic, made me think of one my favourite games (day of the tentacle) and is super polished. Great game feel, good use of the theme and nice simple controls and mechanics. Really awesome game, thank you for sharing it.
Nice game!
nice funny game ! It might deserve some polish though, such as animations, and feedbacks
Wow, this requires some proper multitasking. I really like the pixel art style and the fun challenge in the game. My only issue is that the cannon firing appeared inconsistent, sometimes I could rapid fire and other times it wouldn't fire at all for some reason.
@bustosman - Thank you for your feedback! We will definitely fine tune our audio levels in the future =)
@manbeardgames - It was so fun watching you play on the stream! Thanks for giving it a go, and it was awesome seeing you get better with each try.
@himadri-sekhar-mahanta - I'm really happy to hear that the drive to improve kept you playing longer! I definitely agree on the combo numbers being too hard to see. One of the biggest things I didn't budget my time properly for was the HUD elements. I would have loved to make it all feel more rewarding with better feedback there and in the health bar as well.
@nihilaleph - This is actually probably due to the use of our CSS Flexbox as it centers the game along with the controls below it.
@dimlight - You are a real trooper for using the touchpad to play this. If you have a mouse I'd recommend trying it out with mouse and A / D + spacebar, as the controls are much more natural. That being said I apologize for not considering the touchbar in our control scheme.
@fivenamefivesocks - I'm glad you enjoyed it! Next time I'll make sure to budget time to do HUD work and button feedback. In the game itself I'd say we're missing a cannon animation on when you fire, and possibly a little dust trail from Sodaboi and a better soda can in the air animation as well. I'd love to hear your ideas if there are other animations you feel could have improved your experience!
@gamepopper - The canon recharges quickly after delivering consecutive hits on Sodaboi. We will make that more clear in the description =)
Cool game! I liked the premise of cleaning up a mess. One question though: where does the mess come from? Anyway, I like the concept, and it is a great game for a weekend.
@flashviper Sodaboi is shaking soda cans while running around! He throws them, and once they hit the ground they explode causing soda bubbles to cover the screen. Maybe this could have been more clear if we had made the cans being thrown more clear =)
I love the art and music! It would be nice if the enemy would telegraph his movement a bit so that I could try to predict where he would be and shoot there. Sometimes it felt like it was all very random and rolling the dice
I loved the art and the sounds, and the gameplay, and theme, and everything! But you already knew that since one of you watched me on stream
Thanks for sharing this game with me. I had a blast trying to beat my previous high scores! Boy is this game hard though haha!
It was a little hard to figure out what's going on at first, but this was a fun game. I feel like it got impossible after a point, but that might just be me. Great graphics and music!
Lovely visuals! I can't feel my arm from all the swiping :D
This game is definitely more difficult to play on a touchpad, than with mouse. But it was still fun! I couldn't get much score :(
Although it is not meant to be played as a multiplayer (two-player) game, it would be certainly easiest for one player to control the cannon and for the other to clear bubbles with the mouse.
Nice soda-themed music and visuals. (I would not have believed that music can be soda-themed, but you did it!)
Sodaboi is so punchable! Next Ludum Dare idea: make a VR game starring Sodaboi that you can play with a real sledgehammer. I guarantee it will be a hit. (pun intended)
@sokuaisushi - It was a blast watching you play on stream! Thanks for checking it out.
@benjamin-l - Thank you for playing! There is no win condition in the game, just lasting as long as you can and getting the highest score you can manage =)
@m-1 - Ready for Sodaboi to be the new hot esports team game xD And thank you so much for the music compliments! We wanted the music to feel soda like without using actual soda sounds!
Fun gameplay, reminded me of old arcady minigames on the wii. Graphics and audio are amazing and the game fits the theme well. The movement of Sodaboi was perfect, it was sporadic enough to keep me on my toes but linear enough for me to get awesome hit streaks. I think its been mentioned before, but the cannon fire rate seemed strange, It was good when i got on a nice streak of hits, but I think that feeling of being on a streak could be instilled in a better way as to not confuse the player about when the cannon can fire. But Overall great work!
Screenshot (84).png
Pretty juicy and great artwork and music. Fun mechanic of trying to control both cannon and sponge at the same time. Felt a little clueless as to what was happening - guess there could be some animation showing sodaboi throwing soda cans at you or spraying the screen with goop to help convey that, rather than just having the goop pop up. Not sure how you reach a game over as well - probably with too much goop on screen?
Great entry! The game felt very polished and the gameplay was fun, unique, and interesting! Not sure I really have any criticisms right now. It's executed very well =)
Omg, my arm is tired haha. Simple and nice game, I liked the idea of having to focus on two things at the same time, it tricks my mind.
I loved this game it was so addictive and fun. I need a leaderboard added so I can set some goals! here is a link to your spot on my stream: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/298451826?t=02h08m44s
This was a solid entry! The graphics style was well done and the music was quite gnarly, if I do say so myself. The main concept was pretty good and I liked the multitasking aspect which kept it chaotic and engaging throughout. I would say the only thing that would need improvment is the game feel. I think the cannon should feel much more powerful (a stronger sound effect, screen shake etc. would help with this) and hitting an enemy should feel more impactful as well (make them flash and react much more than they do now for example). I also think on a pure visual level the arc at which the cannonballs travel doesn't quite look right. Other than that good entry!
Everything was already said, nothing to add, just to repeat: It was almost like sport for the arms :D Nice game, well done!
Liked the art and the music. Was fun gameplay just a bit confusing at first
