LD42 — Running out of space

Inventorious by MatiErnst 2018-08-14T18:31:13Z

Awesome game. Some of the puzzles were actually super interesting, which is shocking for a puzzle game made in such a short time! Great job! My biggest gripe was that the screen is very small, so I had to zoom in my browser. Not a huge deal, but just thought I should mention it.

Bag of Devouring by Ilseroth 2018-08-14T18:22:51Z

Awesome idea, and the art is amazing. It feels like a perfect fit for a fully developed mobile game!

Words Dancer by Ango 2018-08-14T04:37:35Z

I love the way the game plays, the controls are smooth and the ability to teleport to your previous position is a really cool and useful addition! My biggest gripe would be that I'd prefer that finishing a level was determined by completing the word at the top of the screen, rather than shooting all of the enemies. The benefits from completing the words didn't feel big enough to motivate me to do it, but at the same time that was the most interesting mechanic of the game. I couldn't really see how the game fit the theme, but other than that I thought it was really enjoyable overall. Fantastic job!

Guns'n'Carrots (Web build) by Razenpok 2018-08-15T18:58:38Z

Awesome game! It felt a little short, but the execution was really polished, and the puzzles were fun!

TrackBlasters by paulloz 2018-08-15T19:42:50Z

Wow, that was awesome. I'd say my only complaint is that sometimes the deaths are really punishing. Often it'll put you quite far back from where you'd die, and because you dropped bombs during that time it felt like you were driving through a track that had already been lapped around another time. Dying twice sometimes meant I just had to restart the track. Maybe dying could also reset any bombs you dropped between that point and where you died? Just a thought. Overall, absolutely incredible. It was really fun to play and the art and music were awesome. Great job!

Huke by Hegemege 2018-08-14T17:02:04Z

The mechanic of the game was quite fun! Occasionally I would get stuck on the tops of walls, but generally it controlled well and swinging was fun. I will say, sometimes swinging right in front of a door but just barely missing felt pretty disappointing, and needing to double back to try and build up the momentum again was awkward. Not sure how to fix it exactly, but maybe a way to nudge yourself around in the air, like a small jetpack that could just push you a tiny bit while airborne would be cool, but I understand the whole idea was to enable movement just through the grapple. Overall quite a lot of fun, good job!

Sphere by Ntimi 2018-08-14T17:54:45Z

Overall the game felt fun and polished, but the lack of variation was disappointing for how long you're playing it. I think adding different enemies or more abilities for the player would bring this game from a good to a great! Good job, and keep up the great work!

Reaper Boy LD42 (Remix) Edition by jessefreeman 2018-08-14T20:34:28Z

Awesome job, game ran perfectly for me!

Smoke: it's ok to feel by Lumpy 2018-08-14T19:35:20Z

I want to believe.

Overflow by antoined73 2018-08-14T23:13:27Z

That was a lot of fun. Great job!

Collapsing Mines of LUMDOOM by Gus the Shark 2018-08-14T04:18:28Z

The graphics are great and every asset meshes well together. Maybe I'm a huge sucker though, because I love dwarfs. The controls felt a bit unresponsive and delayed, and I felt the mushrooms were more frustrating than they were interesting. Other than that, though, the game was great and I really love the theme of a cave collapsing on a dwarf. Good game, good job!

Sky Dare by zchangvx 2018-08-14T05:06:14Z

The game was quite fun to play, the graphics were awesome, and the way the theme was tied in with the game was really clever. I will say that it's a little annoying that you need to hold down f to repair the platform. I understand the intent, but it's basically always correct to be holding f, so I'd prefer that it just happened passively without player input. The "hold up your platform with your spirit" is something I really love, it's great. PROVE YOUR WORTH!

Get To The Airlock by Dan Davis 2018-08-14T17:43:24Z

The overall movement felt nice, my biggest disappointment is that there weren't a lot of interesting variations in levels. I was really hoping for some new mechanics to be introduced (I didn't get passed the forth level, so maybe there were and I missed it?). Regardless, the is quite polished overall, and I'm excited to see what you guys make next LD :D

Globulator by Corbak 2018-08-14T20:13:21Z

Great idea, fits the theme well!

Sodaboi by Tony Redmer 2018-08-14T18:17:32Z

Wow, this was incredibly fun. The art and music are fantastic too. I love that you guys came up with a such a condensed gameplay loop, and feels like you spent a lot of time and effort refining it and it really shows! The art is adorable, the music is awesome (and the way it gets more intense at higher point values is sick). Most importantly, though, playing it just feels like a blast. You guys hit the theme spot on too. Fantastic job, and good on you for spelling boy correctly.

HANA by Conspite 2018-08-14T06:01:18Z

Wow, I'm shocked more people haven't commented on this. The controls were smooth, the graphics were fantastic, and overall it just felt like a short, finished project. Amazing job.

The Human Resources Manager by Humpert764 2018-08-14T22:42:17Z

I really like the core of what's offered here. The concept itself is super fun, and it's the reason I tried 3 to 4 times to actually finish the game. The biggest disappointment is the fact that most of the upgrades seem to be broken. Every time I upgraded an ability it seemed to get worse rather than better. And worse yet, the game was not balanced incredibly well. On my play through where I actually won I bought the upgrade for poisoning corn, and use that exclusively to finish. It seems like you guys put a lot of work into this game, and that much is obvious, I'm just sad there wasn't more time for you to playtest, and make sure all of the kinks were sorted out, because had that been the case this game would've been really fantastic. Regardless of that you guys still did a good job, and I had a fun time playing the game! I think the fact that the game showed so much promise made the serious issues that much more obvious. Again, good job, and I can't wait to see what you all make for LD 43.

Hope of Humanity is done.. 1st Successful LD by luckyDaisy 2018-08-14T05:13:12Z

I love the "story elements"? If it's fair to call them that, haha. Sufficed to say I did not save humanity.

Space Balls by Shafournee 2018-08-15T21:49:19Z

@zchangvx @hegemege @atillagallio @bigbosserndog @crneumre Thanks everyone for the amazing words! It really means a lot! I think the biggest thing I've taken away from this is that the way the game controls is really important refine. It's a tough thing to iron out, so I think I'll spend the next few weeks trying to make a really solid character controller to get a better idea of how to make one that feels good. Thanks for the constructive criticism everyone!

Space Balls by Shafournee 2018-08-15T21:53:41Z

@luckydaisy Thanks so much! It would be cool to flesh this out into a more complete idea honestly. I'd probably want to go back through and remake a lot of the stuff (specifically the controls on the character, haha). Thanks again for your kind words!

Space Balls by Shafournee 2018-08-15T21:56:50Z

@tony-redmer Thanks for the suggestion! I think more of a difference between space balls and land is an awesome idea. Maybe even implementing different types of gravity's, like things that change your gravitational direction could be awesome. Thanks for playing!

Space Balls by Shafournee 2018-08-15T21:58:03Z

@gus-the-shark Thanks for playing, and I'm glad you love the whales, haha. They were all the artists idea :D. Also, Meat Boy was actually the inspiration in a lot of ways, so I'm glad that was clear! That's actually really cool!

Space Balls by Shafournee 2018-08-15T21:58:50Z

@sentrovasi Wow, that's really awesome. Thanks for playing, and for finishing the game! It means a lot!

Space Balls by Shafournee 2018-08-15T22:00:25Z

@corbak Thanks dude, that means a lot!

Space Balls by Shafournee 2018-08-15T22:01:06Z

@landberglife Yeah, I feel like there's a lot of cool new stuff we could do with the space balls. Maybe I'll try it out soon!

Space Balls by Shafournee 2018-08-15T22:02:13Z

@disco Thanks! I wasn't sure how well we were pacing it, because I haven't done any design before. I'm glad to know it felt gradual and things were introduced well. Thanks for playing, it means a lot! :D

Space Balls by Shafournee 2018-08-15T22:03:47Z

@pixeljerry Thanks for playing! I'm glad you liked the ending, haha. And good job with finding the secret!

Space Balls by Shafournee 2018-08-16T13:39:46Z

@conspite Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed! I totally agree about the sound effects. I'm gonna make sure we don't neglect that stuff for next ludum dare.

Space Balls by Shafournee 2018-08-16T13:40:51Z

@veilastrum I'm glad you liked our interpretation of the theme, haha. I was worried it might not fit as well, but we thought it was cool enough to try! Thanks for playing!

WizarDwarf by Sinnis 2018-08-14T19:17:47Z

This was great! The game felt fun and challenging. The spawns could be a little frustrating at times, but the rest of the game was good enough to distract me from that. Graphics were amazing, and overall the game is awesome! Good job!

Park & Match by Carlos Giraldo 2018-08-14T05:38:42Z

The game was a lot of fun! I never felt pressured because I was running out of space, but more because I was running out of time. Regardless it was quite fun to play, so great job!

LD46 — Keep it alive

Sheep Keep by Kevin Barrios 2020-04-21T03:05:25Z

A little rough around the edges, but the visuals and music are amazing. It's very calming to herd the sheep from one point to another. Good job!

Lights Out by Shafournee 2020-04-21T02:14:18Z

@nicksmaddog There was supposed to be audio. Really strange that it didn't play, sorry about that! Glad you enjoyed it still.

Lights Out by Shafournee 2020-04-21T02:15:38Z

@quincy9000 Thanks! We tried hard to find a fine line between holding the players hand, and being too obtuse, so I'm glad you thought we did a good job!

Lights Out by Shafournee 2020-04-21T02:16:48Z

@nipatiitti @yadir2447 @kristian-kurktchiev We wanted you to feel a little helpless, so we weren't entirely sure how to handle it, but it seems like we leaned too far to one side. (Probably need to do some more playtesting going forwards, too >.>) Glad you all still enjoyed despite that!

Lights Out by Shafournee 2020-04-21T02:17:41Z

@matheusborba Obrigado!

Lights Out by Shafournee 2020-04-21T02:21:15Z

@kosmo I appreciate the feedback! Just goes to show how much you've gotta prioritize playtesting, huh? Hopefully we'll be able to learn from that and have something better to show you next year :D

Lights Out by Shafournee 2020-04-21T02:38:53Z

@kevin-barrios Thanks so much, Kevin! It's definitely hard to hit the right balance for everyone, but I'm glad to hear the pacing struck a good chord for you! It's our first time doing horror for all three of us so we learned a lot, and I most definitely want to come back to it sometime!

ENGORGE by Slothtimistic 2020-04-21T02:13:29Z

That was a lot of fun! I really like the voice lines, they make it so much goofy-er!
