Really fun game! The driving felt nice, and the graphics and music were great. I got a blank gray screen after finishing the first four tracks, though. Not sure if that's a bug since I couldn't do anything after that.

Cool art! Good controls! Fun game!
The visual and the art style in generals are so cool and the sfxs are amazing! Good job!
I f***in love the arts! And the concept, one of my favourite entries so far, congratulations to the team.
Very nice art, it is a bit confusing, what actually is the win condition, there is no information on that. After passing 4th level and clicking back to menu got a gray screen. controller is nice. Overal good entry
@svntax @tomeks You should indeed be able to get back to the menu, it's a bug. I pushed a quick fix for that
@my-sweet-whomp no worries, I know it's a gamejam, so its not a sin to have some minor bugs. It didn't affect my review in any way.
I'm both really impressed and also a little critical towards this entry. Firstly, everything screams polish from the fantastic graphics to the soundtrack to the menus. It all feels like it came straight out of a SNES game and for a Jam entry that is something truly impressive. The controls and mechanics were generally well made and easy to understand so I had no issues there. My criticism comes in two aspects both of which might be a bit biased. I honestly don't enjoy the way topdown racing games work so I had a hard time truly having fun with this. Of course this is no fault of your own, I just wanted to make that clear. My other gripe comes with the core concept. Even though the racing while bombing mechanic is great on paper, I think your implementation could have been a bit better. I didn't really see a clear way to "beat" the tracks (does it have to do with doing a certain amount of laps?) and due to only having one route through the stage it becomes a total mess the moment you screw up more than once even leading to you possibly getting locked out of completing a stage. To negate this I think a better approach would be to have multiple routes through a track and using the bomb mechanic as a way to make the player choose to take different paths on the different laps or always go through the one that is fastest (but also most risky due to bomb damage). I am still very impressed with this but I just feel with a clearer goal, some polish to the main idea and more content it would make for an even better game. Fantastic work regardless!
@shell-pirate thank you very much for your kind words  Obviously yes, the tracks need to be refined. We tried what you were saying about several paths with the skull-shaped one and I think it'll be a good way to design some more. As for how to *beat* a track, you just need to make three laps but we realized when we published that we forgot to make an asset for the finish line⦠So it's a bit confusing if you don't see the track ends when you cross three times the line where it started.
Not bad, not bad! Overal good game!
awesome game, great graphics and an intersting idea for gameplay - wish the stage start/end was clearer
Impressive entry, from the concept to the overall design! Great use of the theme, good increasing difficulty thank to the destroy land mechanics, good controls, feedback and rich content. Special mention for the lovely pixel art, very well polished game, one of the best I seen during the LD42 so far, congratz
I absolutely love the art style and animations! Gameplay was very interesting and entertaining. At times though I did feel a bit lost as I wasn't sure which way to go, or what my objective is, as it doesn't really tell you how many laps you have done.
This game was just fun altogether! I love the art, the concept, the controls, etc. Good Job!
Excellent there is everything here! It reminds me micro machine! Retro pixel art graphics excellent! Beautifull sound! It just misses a multiplayer mode that would be huge! the use of the theme is really well thought out! it's a masterpiece! I'm a true trackblaster! Love that!
I can't play b/c it says WebGL 2 is not available and I don't want to download, but just from the screenshots, I can tell the art is worth an instant 5-stars!
@robowarrior1982 Sadly multiplayer was about 75% done at the end of the jam :frowning2: We might add it afterwards though!
@my-sweet-whomp Hold on, it's really huge, it's worth it to keep on ! don't forget to add funny skins!
Love the art and concept of your game! The holes the bombs blast are a bit unforgiving but I think that's the point, right? The music fit beautifully, too. Good job and would love to see this game developed further!
Outstanding game! The art was amazingly thorough for a weekend jam. The mechanic fit the theme perfectly, and the controls were simple. I found it pretty aggravating to play, but I think that's intentional hah. Good job all.
Nice game, The art was really nice. I will sugest to you to put an indication on how many laps you need to do and like a starting point. But good game overall.
3 2 1 BLAST! hahaha .. i wish i could play it local against the others, but how ever .. love it!
@joloujed yeah... we realized we forgot that once the jam is over.
@wowa maybe in a near future
Awesome visuals and a great take on the theme! First racing I saw this jam. Was also quite difficult (though maybe that's because I'm not used to the top-down racing games, haha). The audio was also top-notch.
Great job!
Fantastic, just fantastic :)
Excellent entry.
The music fits perfectly to the theme and the visuals and the sound design really makes it sound like a RC car.
The graphics while simple in style are consistent and consistently great, it's impressive how you didnt shy away from the high resolution props and images for a Jam game. And the racing twist on the theme is great and leads to unique gameplay.
My only criticism is that the bombs sometimes making the race unbeatable feels a bit frustrating, which isn't a big deal but maybe there couldv'e been some kind of assistance that helps you across gaps for a huge time loss, and that the lap recognition seems a bit wonky, especially in the 4th level. I did around 5 laps and it still didnt credit me a win; I couldnt get it to work. I might come back to it to complete it though because the game is very compelling for a jam game.
Outstanding work, hyped for your next entries!
@peringo thank you so much for your comments and for already being hyped for our next entries. You can find some of our earlier ones [on the old website](http://ludumdare.com/compo/author/paulloz/). I think you can pass by the lap detection in the 4th track so your laps might not be registered each time.
This is a stunning submission. The production value is on commercial level. The gameplay is fast and fun. While there is room for improvement in variety, the general scope of this work is already huge for a jam game. The visuals are simply amazing. So far, this is my favorite entry.
WOW!!! absolutely awesome. The controls were hard to get use to but it's part of the gameplay style. I was having a hard time understanding my goal really and so I just wanted to try the different tracks. The artwork is simply amazing and loved the title screen. It really adds to the overall look and feel.
WELL DONE!!!
Very very slick and polished. I wish I could see more in front of the car.
A good game idea, the music should be improved. The graphics are good. Try our game too, maybe you'll like it)
I can't figure out how to finish 1 track. Destroy all track (i can't even do that) or something else. Besides that, very nice art, sound, and music. I wish this game have versus mode (with AI or my friends). really nice games.
The art is fantastic, I do wish I started levels going up rather than down since driving is essentially backwards until you get the flow going. Facing north first would make your brain work a little less harder in the initial testing. Solid game, theme's on point (never made it far with a track). Only suggestion i'd make is to maybe add a little jump mechanic where your vehicle adds a glider so you have a chance of getting back on track. That'd be cool. nailed the theme, the fall sound and count down timer sounds really well done. Music soundtrack was alright, got a little repetitive for me, but the other game sounds were good.
This was an excellent entry! Simple mechanics but very well executed. My only problem with it is not having a quick restart button for when you do too many mistakes and end up stuck at the start of the race, since it is very easy to make the game unwinnable if you suck like me :) Overall, great job!
Reeeeally nice. Graphics are VERY GOOD and music is brilliant! I don't know but I think that menu selection did not work like 100% , but nothing too much. It felt like an actual game, and it was like super polished and great. Good job!
@fullmontis Hi! Thank you for your comment! You can press Escape to go to the pause menu and restart the race or chose another track. :)
Fun game ! I liked a lot the idea you got from "running out of space" actually, it's pretty original. Think it could be cool to play this game with friends :D
Looks fantastic, sounds fantastic, and feels great! That's really awesome. I love that it adds an almost strategy/tactics dynamic to a simple racer. Really great stuff!
Now this was a pure treat to play! I loved Micro Machines back in the day, and you put a nice spin on this one to get the theme in there nice and solid. Everything is pretty much top notch from sound to graphics to feel! Lovely entry to the jam! Great job! :beers:
this is a great little game. Really polished to think this has been made in 72 hrs. SOme racers can be boring. This is just pure fun!
Man I loved Micro Machines! It's probably still my favorite racing game to this day.
This felt like a really great spin on it. Would love to see some kind of versus mode off of this concept.
@drevilbrain We will probably do that in a near future :checkered_flag:
Like many other people have said, this is a super-polished entry, and something that you guys should be proud of. I love the art and the swishy-swooshy animations (that title bounce!), and the music/SFX is also really well done. I feel that once you're able to make the track designs better accommodate the core mechanic, it'll end up being a unique and fun top-down racer. Maybe you could experiment with ways for the track to respawn (either with a timer or maybe an 'area of effect' powerup) to ensure that players never get stuck!
That's a blast! It become impossible to finish some tracks if you're blasting through it. I haven't read the other comments, but maybe a jump function? Regardless: nice.
Really smart and funny concept, graphics are great, also the music perfectly fits to the atmosphere.
Just had some trouble with controls at first (especially when you had to push "down" + "up") i would also liked a start/finish line .
It's an excelent entry, really polished and impressive. Good job guys!
Like other I'm really impressed by the game. Good graphics, good music (for me the ambiante sound is to low, I hear more the regular sound of the bomb than the ambiant)
If you want to polish the game(without work on the core gameplay like @shell-pirate explain) I think there few feedback. The player suffered from the bomb spawning and the respawn, that make some map impossible and generate some frustration. If you add a decount for the bomb, or a way for the player to anticipate (or move) the bomb, become more strategic than based on lucky.
But Guys, you are awesome, I love your sprite :)
Wow, that was awesome. I'd say my only complaint is that sometimes the deaths are really punishing. Often it'll put you quite far back from where you'd die, and because you dropped bombs during that time it felt like you were driving through a track that had already been lapped around another time. Dying twice sometimes meant I just had to restart the track. Maybe dying could also reset any bombs you dropped between that point and where you died? Just a thought. Overall, absolutely incredible. It was really fun to play and the art and music were awesome. Great job!
Awesome game, graphics are really cool! Good job!)
The art is gorgeous, I'm so impressed you were able to knock out such polish in this amount of time. I can't add much else to what others have said. The game does suffer from a lack of achievement. I made a top-down driving game before and I know it's hard to create that motivation. I did find just simply having a lap counter that ticked down helped a lot, and letting a player know when they're on their last lap helps.
I also feel like the bombs create a byproduct of why you're running out of space rather than a consequence of your own decisions. Maybe if in a future build, you include enemies that you can drop bombs on to slow them down, but as a consequence you sacrifice a part of the level which could backfire on you later.
Great work!
My suggestions for this game would be to make the player turn around faster and also to turn the camera along with the player direction. I know that might not be what was intended for the original controls of the game, but IMO the controls were a bit loose and turning around with A/D is better when the A/D directions are indeed your left/right.
Personally I like the pixel art (that dino head was pretty amazing).
Cool game, very nice art. It felt polished and the game mechanics were functional but needed some more work I think. It was almost too easy to fall off even when there seemed to be enough space between the holes. It was a bit too difficult to control the player. Maybe using space for throttle and A/D for left and right instead of arrow keys. Also being able to reverse would be nice.
I miss the lap counter because sometimes I didn't realize if I was going in the wrong direction or if I had completed a lap. I feel the levels were almost too open without much indicating where to go, but I understand that it needs to be open so you can navigate around the holes you create.
Good job overall, it was fun.
Wow this game is amazing. Hey you know what ? You managed that this Game had to be a Submission for LD42 AND LD41 (combine 2 incompatible Genres) as you mixed racing and bomberman. But this is soooo cool :D
I was instancly addicted by the game.
This game is too hard for me. Actually, It seems that I can win any track by going slowly for the 1st and 2nd laps but it becomes frustrating and start to speed up again. Otherwise, the game looks fantastic (I love retro aesthetics), the audio is well done and the idea is really nice. My main problem is that the track gets eaten up quickly so every failure increases the probability of getting stuck. May be some mechanics to fix the road, fly, etc can be helpful. Fixing the aforementioned problem will also make it possible to extend the game to multiplayer (and another friendship-breaking game will be born). Overall, great game and I really enjoying it.
The game is a really good idea and I was impressed, but the mechanics are missing something. The pace gets slower and slower the farther I get into a track, when I think it should feel fast and risky! Maybe the bombs should blow you across the pits, so you have to do more and more damage to keep going.
This game was awesome, graphics were on spot and I really really enjoyed playing it! Good job guys!:)
Really interesting game but really difficult :confounded:
Really neat concept! I kept blowing up too much of the road to be able to make it through on subsequent laps, hehe. Great take on the theme and nicely done :)
I'm so bad at this game! Personally I just didn't like the controls but the idea is really interesting, the audio is very good and the game looks well polished. It's also nice to see people using the Godot Engine.
@dodoita Yeah, it might take a little time to get used to the controls. We wanted to be as close to the original as possible on this part.
Cool game. Lovely graphics and audio and the UI is like production quality.
Gameplay is good, but could be better. Would like to have more controls over the bombs. Maybe light them automatically and within a timer drop them manually.
Multiplayer would probably work very well. But ofc that's not really the scope for a jam.
Anyway, good job all of you!
Cool ! Love the retro style of the art and the sounds (the sound when click on tracks in the menu remind me a lot Worms). However I don't really understand what is the winning condition and I find it a little bit difficult (but I have no skills in this kind of games so..)
Well done !
This game had an extremely impressive amount of polish, the controls were also smooth and nice.
The only problem I had is that if I messed up too much I would be forced to start over.
Overall, great job
I really like this one. Controls are nice and responsive and the artwork is great. I kept getting into situations where I couldn't drive in any direction and had to start over which was a little frustrating.
Great game, fit the theme perfectly, artwork was great. Very different as it is kind of a strategic racer, ha.
Holy molly, man, one of the best entries! It's great!
Such a complete game: multiple stages, great graphics, excellent music and sound, screenwipes, man you though of everything and implemented everything. Driving around is also great fun. If I can fault anything it's that it's easy to paint yourself in a corner. It would have been cool if there were more ways of saving yourself, for instance using a jump. Still definitely one of the best games I played. Congratulations!
After a wonderfull comment on my game by @kokonaught, I was curious to see what he did and kind hope it was good so I can say something nice to and ...Loved it ! Everything is neat ! Pixel Graphics, 8 bits musics and sound are awesome and fit together and with the micromachine gameplay well executed plus some originality, the game feel is good and you managed to did a single player racing game that is still challenging and interesting. A lot of content for a jam game. It fit smartly the theme. I would love to play it with a multiplayer mode (4 player old school split screen !). It could be a very cool game (not just a very good game jam game) with more content idea so i hope you will continue it. Great job guys !
I am bad at this game! The graphics were very well made. I'd like to have been able to drive across diagonal gaps. Really fits the theme and this would be really cool multiplayer, a frustration showed when I would spawn right behind a gap I'd blown up. Still a well made game and really hammered the theme.
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/298139021## gameplay at 25:00
First, I was extremely impressed by the art. The art is absolutely gorgeous and gives a very good vibe on the mood of the game. The gameplay is also very interesting, albeit I wasn't exactly sure what the winning conditions were, I still had a lot of fun completing the circuit as many times as I could. The audio is on point, fast beats and even the small annoying RC electric car sound is here :D
The only downpoint I have is that I wished there was a somewhat bigger tolerance for falling, as you cannot cross diagonal tiles.
BlastTracker.PNG
Overall, awesome job !
What a neat idea! Looks great too. Aside from the obvious Micro Machines vibes, the floating islands made me think of Toejam And Earl, and how you could fall down onto the map below, and then I thought what if this game had layered tracks and bridges, and alternate routes that could be revealed. As it is, it's already very creative. Well designed, well made, gorgeous pixel art!
It's a well made game. Lots of beautiful art and easy to use controls. However, you kind of get screwed over and have to restart races if you completely blow up parts of the track that would allow you to finish a lap. Not sure how to design around that or if it is intentional to force players to reset; however, overall it was a fun game that proved challenging and fit the theme well.
I love the art style you went with for this game. Paired with the spinning shrinking animation it brought me back to Link to the Past in a fun nostalgic way. Diagonal movement with any missing pieces feels a little glitchy, but apart from that I enjoyed this. Great job!
Love this game, the visuals are very nice!
It was fun once I figured you need to take 3 laps . Most of what I wanted to say has already been said, but I think this could make a really compelling Android/iOS game if y'all decided to keep working on it :)
Pretty cool, fun and clever ! It's too bad that there is no visual finish line. Ah and I am am a huge fan of th graphic !! :)
Really funny idea and game !!! Nice shot on the theme. A leaderboard for the races would have been great to had some more challenge
Graphics are great as well ! However sometimes, the kart moves seems a bit twtchy, nothing dramatical though.
Good job !
Full points for graphics! It's visually stunning and a cool idea to boot. Up to accelerate isn't really my kind of thing but I guess it keeps the controls nice and simple
It's great to see a fellow Godot team!! Really good art and sound, loved the overall style. The controls would have probably felt better on a gamepad. I agree with others saying that the winning condition isn't very clear. Maybe some kind of charging bar in the hud saying how many bombings were completed would have helped? Still, a really nice entry, good job :)
@pyrodaes As written in the description, you **can** use a gamepad to play
@my-sweet-whomp whoooooops, my bad sorry! I'll try it again!
Very fun game, nice graphics and audio. Would be nice to see some more maps, maybe some longer ones as well.
Oh, I'm not able to play and rate this because I get an 'Index out of bounds' exception thrown when I try to play the web version. I'm really disappointed because I like these old top down style racing games and your graphics look great from the screenshots. Hopefully you can get this fixed soon.
Nice work! I enjoyed riding around blowing everything up, but wasn't sure what the win conditions were... art/music were very well suited together. Well done, excellent entry,.
@historymaker118 can you tell me on what browser you're experiencing this and when please?
I'm using firefox, and it's as soon as I load the page and click 'run game'
Super top tier art. Love the menus, the colors, the polish overall. Fantastic work! The only thing I feel like I needed was a little more guidance in terms of like the amount of laps I'd done, and how much distance until I finished the run. I feel like maybe a linear path where upon completing a 'lap', you'd be teleported back to the start (like snowboard kids) would have made things more self-explanatory.
Nice idea. Really originally. I love that sound and graphics!
Great racing/survival game. Congrats for you imaginative take on the theme ! I found the difficulty curve to be quite hard, but the overall polish of your game is so great, I could not stop playing and managed to do some progress. Your crisp pixel art is glorious, and the background music is excellent. All in all, congrats for the great entry !
Unique game. The graphics and sounds are tops! First racing game I've saw in this jam, good job putting the theme and the racing game together. It feels nicely polished. Nice job!
Awesome! Loved the simplistic control and the art looked fantastic! Very unique and interesting interpretation of the theme, game concept is well executed. Sound effects and music suited the tone and setting of the game very well. Only suggestion is to implement a lap system, so players can develop a sense of progression and skill development. Good work!
Bridge bulding mechanism would be a nice addition :) Amazing Graphic.
Really neat entry! The polish level here is top notch. As everyone has quite rightly already said, the art, animations and sound are absolutely great, the music really fits the atmosphere, and I loved the cute bomberman-esque explosion animation.
The controls were good and intuitive, and even more comfortable on a controller, so racing that first and second lap was pretty nice. I have a few common niggles. The main one being how easy it is to make the track impossible to complete. I think this is amplified by how far back you're put when you fall, meaning that the more you fail repeatedly, the harder it gets and the closer you approach to impossible.
I think this unfortunately combines with the fact that it seems your bombs only spawn when you reach a certain speed, meaning I could dishonourably become a TRACKBLASTER (albeit slowly) by just racing in short bursts.
A few fixes I would suggest are perhaps spawning you only a little bit back after a fall, some kind of way to reform the terrain like the above suggestion of building bridges temporarily, or hey! How about a jump mechanic? That keeps you racing and could really help. Have a few invulnerable bits of terrain so that you can always jump from one to another in the event literally everything else is gone.
Once again though, the polish is great, the controls are nice and I really like the entry besides that. Good job, especially for two days!

Great level of polish all around! some of my complaints have already been echoed here. Having a visible finish line, Maybe a jump function, More leeway on falling. But overall, fantastically put together entry!
This game is very polished. Stunning art, nice soundtrack and overall solid gameplay.
The graphics and sound are perfect (but I agree that a finish line would be nice ;D), loved them to bits. The core idea is hilarious and a brilliant usage of the theme, but I got a bit frustrated sometimes at the fall detection if you moved close to the edges of the world (although that added difficulty is kind of the point of the game, on the other hand).
Finishing the multiplayer mode and perhaps adding some special powers to give you some extra meat beyond trying to avoid the gaps would be nice additions to a really promising game.
Congrats!
Amazing jam, too bad the multiplayer wasn't ready. Found an easy way to win, just turn without moving until laps are finished.
Finally took the time to play your entry, loved the idea! Can't help but wonder what it'd feel like to play it with a friend! Great job!
I liked your artwork a lot. I found the gameplay was frustrating - I had no signal whether driving around the track was being counted or if I was doing it right. A lap counter would've been very helpful for this!
The concept was very novel. I liked blowing up the track and causing myself issues.
The game is nicely presented. Everything from the game art to the itch.io page is of high quality. The idea is pulled of quite well and game was enjoyable, mostly due to the visually appealing color pallete to the audio.
I liked the fast-paced music. Made me feel like that I had to drive the car fast. However, I tended to drive slow with precaution to make sure I dont fall off the grid. I'm not sure if thats the right way to play this game.
Another reason I played slowly was due to the fact that I am used to driving games that have diffrent control mechanics. For example, turning in this game is far more sensitive then turning in other driving games.
A high quality fun game nevertheless. Great Entry
beautiful game art and enjoyable game. Took me a while to get used to the mechanics but once I did I had alot of fun!
Perfect 5 stars! When I placed bombs at my own pace and decided between slow planning and fast driving, while listening to the pumping music, I felt entranced. If you continue to develop this, during the first race I didn't understand what action I was taking that caused a bomb to be placed. I thought I was pressing the space bar to place a bomb. By the third race I inferred that my progress around the track was placing a bomb. I admire this self-balancing schedule, but I didn't notice feedforward or feedback to show me that progress around the track was the cause of each bomb.
Lovely polish on this game. As for gameplay I'm left a bit unsatisfied, you have a decent racing game that really feels like Micro Machines (which I played like crazy back in the days) HOWEVER, your main gameplay mechanic; the the space shrinking/bomb placing kind of negates everything satisfying in a racing game; going fast and staying on a true path. If you play our game, you'll notice we made the same mistake by having the player dying when colliding with planets. For your game I'd love to see some kind of jump-ability so that I can at least try to fast and try to jump over unexpected holes rather than just stop every time.
Great art, polish, mood, etc.
Great visual style, smooth driving - the destruction felt a bit too much at times - and the objective was unclear at the start. Aside from that a cool base to tweak!
Potential tweaks: - Bombs only blow up one square - Falling into a hole plugs it - Add jumps / boosts to get over gaps - Terrain doesn't go kaput right away but first weakens one step (so you can be a bit more tactical with your path)
@joror I like the idea of adding a step before a tile is totally destroyed, we might go in that direction.
Awesome game! I agree with most of the stuff the guys above me said. However, I really want to compliment you for your soundtrack -- *it's so awesome*. I immediately fell in love with it. Great entry!
Had a blast playing this one! Love the pixel art so much. Thanks for sharing your game with my stream awhile back. Your game was played around 3:18 into this vod: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/297885983
This one's lovely! Love the art, and it plays great in the browser. Some suggestions: - Would be good if the game prevented dropping bombs in a place that would make the track impassable. - Seems like I should be able to drive across a diagonal corner between two holes (if carefully)? - I'm sure you thought of this, but if I were racing against computer opponents and we were dropping bombs for each other, I think that would be quite fun!
Overall a very good entry, congrats :)
I liked the Graphics, and the Gameplay was fun, Nice Game.
Wow the polish level on this is fantastic! I just wish there was a clear marking on the track showing where the lap starts/ends so I can plan out each lap accordingly. Also, in some stages the car starts out facing down, or left/right, so it takes my brain a second to map the arrow keys to those directions. If the car starts facing up in each lap it would be easier to get right into the race. Overall, a wonderful entry, good job!
cool!
