LD42 — Running out of space

TrackBlasters by paulloz 2018-08-17T13:29:48Z

It's great to see a fellow Godot team!! Really good art and sound, loved the overall style. The controls would have probably felt better on a gamepad. I agree with others saying that the winning condition isn't very clear. Maybe some kind of charging bar in the hud saying how many bombings were completed would have helped? Still, a really nice entry, good job :)

TrackBlasters by paulloz 2018-08-17T13:34:55Z

@my-sweet-whomp whoooooops, my bad sorry! I'll try it again!

Where Stars Belong by NORRIMO 2018-08-27T10:41:34Z

I completed the game without trouble (didn't find the secret though!). Here are my thoughts: - I looooooved the graphics you managed to pull out! I loved the color palette, and the shapes, and the clouds! The mood is 5* - the controls could have been a bit smoother, but it's a jam after all - maybe its greatest weakness is narration-wise: I liked the actions and the symbolism but the dialogues sounded quite 'commonplace'. - the music could have had a bit more personality - I loved how you built the world: the long way to the crystal to build anticipation, the window showing the black star particles... I found it very intuitive. (only the jump to the star-shooter felt a bit wierd).

Great entry! :D

Co-op Puzzle by wowa 2018-08-19T22:03:07Z

Hey! One of the best entries so far in my opinion!! I played with a friend and had a lot of fun! She was a non-gamer but got very involved with the funny tasks on the android part. I really liked the idea of two players with different control systems, and the game in itself is well done too! I found the fruit mechanic in itself somehow satisfying. I only got some problems in understanding what determined loosing and what to do to score, maybe a more detailed tutorial was needed. Also, I think the pace of the game could have been a bit faster. But really nice job! A breath of fresh air :)

Pop it! by LJay 2018-08-15T22:38:10Z

This game made me hungry. Haha cool idea! I really like the overall feel, good job with audio and graphics. I agree with the others in saying it lacks a bit of variety, but it's a really nice mini-game. :)

NOOR by PNghasemi 2018-08-17T12:20:22Z

Noor is definetly one of the best entries I played so far. I loved the dialogues and the sound design especially. The mood feels great in its minimalism! I like the gameplay as well, even if think the absence of checkpoints penalizes it a bit. It probably isn't refined enough to be so repetitive. If the bulbs lighted a bit more or recharged faster, moving through already visited places would be less annoying. Still, it's amazing you did all this on your own! Really good job :D

LETTERBOX by Shell Pirate 2018-08-17T12:52:42Z

One of the best entries! The game feel is amazingly good, great job on polishing especially animations and sound!

Made me quite mad, I failed a lot of times xD but it's the way it should be. I kept playing and enjoyed it. The only thing I found frustrating was the fact that, even if you didn't die, one mistake prevented you from trying again. Maybe the jump arrows could regerate, and the switches could keep working? Aside from this, fantastic Ludum Dare entry!

I'm curious, are you a team or a single person?

Trophy Hunter by dasun 2018-08-15T23:08:39Z

Grrrrreat game feel, very consistent style, well thought level design, interesting enemy patterns. I loved the sound of the steps. Maybe not the most innovative choice, but very well executed. For now it's the game that kept me hooked longest. Maybe the downgrades take some sense of reward away, but really, great submission! :D

Dumpotopia by DjeyCreations 2018-08-15T22:52:04Z

Nice game, conveys the theme quite powerfully. And wow, you created a lot of art assets in such little time! Even though maybe focusing more on the main character and the fish (especially animation wise) and less on the background would have had a greater impact. In general, I agree with what @antoined73 said.

Feed Us by El-Metallico 2018-08-15T23:19:10Z

I definetly agree with @manusaiz, the game has a very unique and sophisticated look. I really liked the animations' feel and the take on the theme. I also loved the way you presented it. I didn't understand how to play it, though... i gave the customers the food they wanted, but nothing changed. Maybe an in-game tutorial would have helped.

Demonic Digestion by DodoIta 2018-08-15T23:22:56Z

Thank you @megalink @wowa @yamiog , we're glad you had fun!!

Demonic Digestion by DodoIta 2018-08-16T11:33:37Z

@skyc @ryunigia ouch, the skull spawning in front of you sounds like a bug, we'll work on fixing it as soon as we can! Thanks for the feedback <3

Demonic Digestion by DodoIta 2018-08-16T12:00:56Z

@ryunigia yes we chose not to make a detailed tutorial in order to give the player a sense of discover. I'm afraid that because of the little time the result maybe wasn't very clear. - The onigiri gives you life, wich is represented by the color of the trail. - The parasol serves as a shield - the katana hits the big skeleton if you go near it, but disappears if you get hit.

The skeleton didn't spawn because there weren't enough skulls on the screen (we found a bug, the skulls sometimes exit the screen instead of bouncing). It should appear if you eat them faster. We're sorry, will be working on it asap! Thank you again for the feedback :)

Demonic Digestion by DodoIta 2018-08-16T12:01:58Z

@jsd yes, they are! They are a traditional yokai :D Glad you liked it!

Demonic Digestion by DodoIta 2018-08-19T10:47:11Z

@noumenie the "slippery" feel of the controls was a design choice that we're quite satisfied with.

On the other hand, we wanted the player to discover on its own the meaning of the items, but you're right in saying we didn't guide the player very well. And it's true we spent too much time on the menu. We'll try to do better next time!

As for the music, it should change since before the boss enters the screen... I'm afraid you ran into a bug maybe?

About the changelog, the rules say that bugfixing is allowed after the deadline. We also saw some games calibrating the parameters afterwards, and so did we, since what the rules explicitly say is only "do not add new *features*". We hope to be able to publish a game after more playtesting next time, still, it isn't against the rules.

Lava Palava by Ben Scroggins 2018-08-27T11:08:03Z

Wow, that graphics! I loved the monsters! The font clashed a bit with the rest of the style, but that's the only thing I didn't like, visually. The overall look and mood was amazing. Nice level design, too.

The controls don't feel right, though. I don't know if it's because the web version is a bit slower, but the movement and jump feel very indirect. In my opinion you could have made the jump definetly faster and with some acceleration at the end. On the contrary, the fact that the balls you shot were bouncy and slow made them more fun.

Also, consider sticking to common control schemes, like left mouse button to shot - space to jump - wasd to move. I think it would be more intuitive for your players, considering that in a jam you're referring to an audience of gamers.

Still, I enjoyed going through the levels! Good job! And I hope this feedback was useful :)

Dark Soil by Pietro Ferrantelli 2018-04-28T13:16:11Z

Of all the ones I tried, this is the game I played longer! Great game feel, addictive gameplay :) The only thing I feel it lacked a bit was a push to plant more. Something like a count-down, or a reward for planting (when the plant is watered it gives life? dunno)... Still, really good job!!! It's a pity you don't "advertise" it more on the homepage. Spam it guys, this game deserves more votes!

CONFESSIONAL by Rodrigo Denúbila 2018-05-01T22:42:49Z

Congrats on doing all the work on your own!! It's quite impressive. I like the idea of controlling the perspective of the tortured man, but I was expecting the story to develop in a way that exploited this more. The lack of sound effects really penalized it, but in a one-man-team it's understandable. Great job :)

Modern Bowlfare by Derek Wilson 2018-05-01T23:04:07Z

When I started getting the hang of it the explosions began to become very satisfying! haha I had some fun there x) Just seeing the pins' positions sometimes made me laugh, because it was so dissonant with the COD atmosphere (which you recreated very well, btw!). It's a pity it didn't have a background music / ambience sound. Nice level design, great job!

Fire Duck Football by Yohoho Games 2 2018-04-28T12:46:35Z

I played with a friend and had a lot of fun! It's the right balance between casual fun and strategy! It would be great to get more levels like the third, and see it published with a more polished graaphics :) Good job!

@themonsterfromthedeep thank you very much for your feedback! If you're interested we are right now uploading a new version of the game where we fixed that very bug! It should be done in a few minutes :)

@abhimonk thank you very much for your detailed feedback! I think all the critics are spot-on, next time we'll improve and deliver a better game!!💪 Meanwhile we're very happy you enjoyed playing Feed Me. The credits bug should be fixed now, I made a mistake reuploding the files..😅

@ben-pearson thank you very much for playing our game! Unfortunately here it was night when you streamed it and we couldn't watch it live. But we really appreciated you playing it until the end! :D

@maijauleberg lol while working on the art assets I switched off the game design perspective... I realized too late that putting a door there wasn't simply a decoration xD No time to playtest during the jam! sigh

We must reveal it now: there is no happy ending! We are guilty of betraying our players' hope!

@angela-he I'm glad you enjoyed our game!! I played yours and it's incredible what you managed to do in so little time! Unfortunately we were too inexperienced and we didn't make it in time to add a proper game over or different endings. According to the original plan the creature should have evolved according to how you took care of it (we never considered happy endings though :P). Next time we'll do better! ;)
