LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Street Chess by OddballDave 2018-04-25T09:32:20Z

I was lucky enough to see the early version of this during development over the weekend. Beyond the insanity of the premise, the pun-heavy story really drives home the theme and adds a lot of tongue-in-cheek gravitas. The mechanics could give rise to all kinds of possibilities, such as multiple advancing pawns in lock-step, symmetrical moves and of course it could be made infinitely more difficult at the press of a button, but how much is anyone going to get into a game in 72 hours? This game's great, it should be the next big eSport.

Shutin by Ava Skoog 2018-04-25T18:54:49Z

Absolutely excellent. As a man known for his work with shaders, I can say that the graphics here are impressive. Some good writing in this one too and you're right: It's pretty close to real life, i.e. a horror story filled with never-ending chores and requirements. In that, you've made a great game and a social commentary at the same time. Great stuff!

Ascension by Erkberg 2018-04-29T14:02:47Z

After a few goes, I started to get the hang of this. The graphics are very charming and the frantic gameplay really brings a sense of enjoyment to the game. Great work.

Rose-Coloured Dungeon Life by Junber 2018-04-29T13:39:18Z

This is surprisingly polished for a LD entry, the character designs particularly are very well realised. I loved the dialogue in this, the writing is great. Awesome work.

Age Of Asteroids by Wevel 2018-04-24T14:31:44Z

It's bonkers how much detail you managed to fit into this game in 72 hours. I'm going to have to come back to this one to fully digest it, but at first glance it's a really intricate and cool game. Really well done, I'll be coming back to play more of this after I get through the slew of 2D platformers...

Space Drifter TD by Skosnowich 2018-04-26T11:26:05Z

This is a great entry. Once I got my head around the controls, this played really well. I suppose it could easily be expanded to provide a more puzzle-like aspect to which towers require power etc, which would help flesh out that aspect of the theme a little better. But hell, you made a space-sim for a game jam. Sold.

Build The Road Jack by badpaul34 2018-04-24T16:48:17Z

This is a really great idea, executed very well. The graphics are awesome and the gameplay is fluid - you clearly spent a lot of time focusing on these aspects. I would have liked to see more of the 'Snake' aspects, such as making it more difficult for the player to lay out new tracks without 'bumping' into previously laid ones, but I realise that having the third dimension makes this tricky indeed. Plus locking it to one plane (2.5D) would make the racing less fun, so the dilemma is appreciated. Either way, a really polished and competent racer. Great work.

Bob Ross Adventure by Goutye 2018-04-24T12:47:37Z

In this game, there are no mistakes. Just happy little accidents! Hilarious use of the theme, Bob would be proud!

Card Mayor by nander 2018-04-26T10:44:29Z

Amazing that you managed to pull off something so ambitious in such a short space of time. The old-school simcity-esque graphics really do the game justice and I think the card game aspects work very well indeed. You made the incompatible compatible! Very cool game.

Golf N' Grenades by Imphenzia 2018-04-24T13:40:30Z

Great use of the theme, you've made golf sooooo much more interesting. Why can't this exist in the real world? Excellent graphics too.

Flowdrive by Dustyroom 2018-04-24T11:52:17Z

This is a pretty solid entry! Not sure if these genres are truly incompatible, but then perhaps it's to your credit that your combination of puzzle and top-down driving has been executed so smoothly. Great work!

Spaceloop by smilewood 2018-04-24T17:42:07Z

I had a lot of fun playing this. Sort of like Jetpac meets Flappy Bird. There were times when I was leaping around in the void that I thought I'd gone off the map and broke your game... but then there were still some stars to collect! The 'Loop' feature is a great addition, I needed a few goes to complete it. A pretty competent entry and one you should be proud of.

Good Fighter by pndaa 2018-04-29T13:37:26Z

Absolutely bonkers. The rhythm aspects work really well, though a little tough in places. But that doesn't distract from the charming graphics and the music works really well too. Great job.

UNchessTOMIZER by dusakus 2018-04-24T12:46:24Z

Really love the juxtaposition of standard old-school chess game with hand-drawn cards. Not sure what the theme mash-up is exactly... sort of strategy vs proc-gen? Perhaps a roguelike map would've sold the theme a little better. But still, a great, fun game that maintains a surprising amount of strategic gameplay, despite the crazy aspects!

SurviFarm by arzi 2018-04-24T11:23:01Z

Survival and Farming Sim... Great idea, though it played out more like Don't Starve. That's not a bad thing! Also, your low-poly graphics are to die for. Great game, rated!

Remote Bot by Yngvarr 2018-04-24T16:20:59Z

I love the art for this, it feels like a hacking sim but with this awesome ASCII platformer interface on the top. Very dear to my heart. Great job on this.

SKYWOOOD PIER by designernap 2018-04-25T14:42:33Z

Absolutely beautiful, great ambience and full of intrigue. This game had me hooked from the moment I realised I had no idea what was going on. There's a roguelike feel to the generated layouts that keeps you guessing what's around the next corner and the music and audio bring this great feeling of space to the whole piece. Even falling to my (presumable) death felt like... coming home. Really awesome game.

Rude Bear Rogueolution by alexrose 2018-04-24T13:54:38Z

Okay, this is a little mad. And brilliant. I actually found it pretty tough, but then I'm terrible at rhythm games. Pretty solid but I got through to the epic boss battle and managed to beat him. I guess a lot of repeat play would be required to get all those combos down, but kudos for even getting them all in there in the first place. Rude Bear is back, baby!

NIGHT CLICKER by smaganik 2018-04-29T14:00:51Z

This one is genuinely spooky, some smart ideas that work both really well together and keep well with the LD41 theme. Be still, my beating heart!

Jeff From Accounting by Almax 2018-04-26T15:45:07Z

Great game, the art is top-notch and the gameplay is fluid. Really great entry!

Gone Clicking by hiki911 2018-04-24T16:32:34Z

This is a great looking game; I really like the backgrounds and the art assets. The gameplay and the rhythm sections work quite well, together, though they feel like two separate mini-games rather than a single experience. Still a lot of fun though! There are a few glitches here and there with the graphics (button down images etc), but being a UE4 dev myself, its easy to understand how these were missed - UE's UI system can be a pain in the neck at the best of times. Otherwise a great little game that does what it says on the tin. Good job!

Poker-Man : Arcade + Poker by lavwa 2018-04-26T11:36:55Z

Really great idea to blend these two genres together, and with such gusto! The gfx fit perfectly, as does the music. You might be sitting on a goldmine here. Develop it further!

Soccer Racing by reuno 2018-04-24T15:06:57Z

Hugely polished for a LD entry, love the overall aesthetic approach too. I don't know if it's more soccer than it is racing, but I know I like it. You should develop this title further, the world needs a new eSport!

FishOut by auxC 2018-04-29T14:15:03Z

Some really amazing graphics in this, how on earth did you get all of that done in 72 hours? Actually, I don't want to know, it's your secret sauce. Charmingly brilliant, scoring this one high.

CONFESSIONAL by Rodrigo DenĂºbila 2018-04-25T19:06:46Z

A really impressive feat to get the graphics looking this good in 72 hours, that's a lot of normal maps! The horror elements play out really well and there's a genuinely unnerving feel throughout. So mission accomplished! Great stuff.

Sloppy Dungeon by pixelstuff 2018-04-24T12:08:30Z

Great concept and hard as nails to beat! A little more polish on the animation would've been welcome, but you've sold the idea pretty well and I think that unlike a lot of other entries, this one genuinely blends two incompatible genres and does it well. Great job!

Spacewhale by Chao 2018-04-29T13:42:47Z

Great feel and some excellent balancing. I found it particularly hard, but then this is not much more difficult than a run through FTL. I really enjoyed trying to keep all of my resources balanced, though I failed a number of times and ended up with too many people to feed. I feel like I could genuinely get better at this with time though, the artwork and music fit perfectly. Great work.

Broken Space Fish Shooter by ooku 2018-04-24T12:52:56Z

I really think this is one of the smarter LD entries that I've played, despite the (certainly deliberate) cheap gfx and sound. It was a lot of fun trying out the different combinations of 'automation' to get my fish (?) to hold its own against the swarm. I would've loved to see an expansion of the core mechanic, perhaps by introducing different enemy behaviours to force the player to adopt other control combinations. Very clever and a worthy entry.

Slide or Die by Zeriver 2018-04-24T14:52:18Z

Really like the concept and the graphics are swish! Getting the controls to do what I wanted felt genuinely like it was a matter of skill, rather than to do with the way they are designed. That's the sign of a really competent game - when the player is challenged, but it always feels fair. Great work!

A Tale of Comedy and Tragedy by jelch 2018-04-24T15:54:08Z

Cool little game. I liked the dialogue and the mechanics, as well as the vignetted lighting. Good job.

Ce n'est pas un jeu de pointer-et-cliquer by bobismijnnaam 2018-04-24T11:14:41Z

This took me a while, but I finally solved it! Great ambience and a very quirky entry, but well-executed. Great work!

Between Dimensions by lautregars 2018-04-25T19:13:52Z

I think it's great how you've managed to fit a platformer and an FPS into a browser game. It was a little tricky to work out why I would need to be in first person view at all at first, but then I saw where you were going with it. Really good work, even though I was terrible at it!

Wizsnooks by kroltan 2018-04-29T13:55:55Z

This is a pretty unique title - I've not seen anything else like this at LD41. Those ball characters are like the Madball 1980s toys come to life in a game! Really good level of polish and the physics felt realistic enough to remain fair. All of those powerups just added to fun!

Piloteer by Evil Brain 2018-04-29T13:58:43Z

Loving the 8-bit style graphics, I feel like with a little more polish this could make a very promising mobile game. Great work.

Fish for Speed by Draedrus 2018-04-26T12:17:11Z

Great design and a fun playing experience. Good stuff.

BASEBALL in HELL by ragtagradical 2018-04-24T10:56:30Z

This is a lot of fun. Tough game but nicely rewarding!

Swap Swamp by Le Slo 2018-04-24T13:09:50Z

This is super-clever. Highly innovative and it really blends the two genres very well. It's easy to see how this design would lead to some really diverse tactics. You might be sitting on a gold mine with this. Develop it into a full-blown mobile game and blow all of those other hum-drum match games out of the water!

Kinbaku by vkmicro 2018-04-24T11:33:42Z

I enjoyed this a fair bit. The art was my favourite aspect, but I guess if I had to pick a 'least favourite' aspect, it would be that the gameplay could do with a little more balancing. I felt like I should've died way more than I did... Unless I'm just amazing at your game, which seems very unlikely. Great game and good work!

Just bullet: A turn-based hell by zeu31 2018-04-29T14:13:19Z

Had a lot of fun with this, the graphics are adequate and in fact work well to not distract the player from the core gameplay mechanics. It's great trying to plot your moves while looking ahead to see what's coming, though obviously it gets a bit crazy trying to look more than four moves ahead. I guess that's the point though! Great job.

Cocaine McBain - A Farm Rush Adventure by Goat Toaster Games 2018-04-26T10:42:20Z

Definitely more runner than farming sim, but who cares as you have pulled off a charmingly elegant scroller with really great graphics and audio. This looks almost polished enough to go straight to market. Very good job!

Get Off My Farm! by Luke Perkin 2018-04-24T16:26:33Z

Once you get this up and running, it's pretty good. The blend between FPS and farming sim could be a little more balanced (e.g. with more 'farming' options to really expand the resource management side of things), but on the whole you tend to be more engaged by the competitive aspects of the death match. Good stuff.

Unbelievabubble by maximebugman 2018-04-24T14:54:20Z

Great mechanics and the artwork is approaching AAA work! Great use of the theme too. Very awesome.

Roll Playing Game by Smiling Cat Entertainment 2018-04-29T13:52:17Z

This is a very pretty game that will do well with just a little polish. Bearing in mind that this was done in 48 hours and not 72, I found it to be really well realised and the game idea is simple and fun. Great work!

Shipwrecked on Robot Island by Bitten Toast Games 2018-04-24T11:37:26Z

I really like the atmosphere in this game, I feel like if there was more of it I would just keep on playing and exploring, as the graphics are absolutely top-notch. Took me a while to complete - some of those keys were in hard-to-find places! A really competent entry, though I'm not so sure how 'incompatible' your themes are with one another. But who cares? Great work, rated.

Idle Escape Room by gimbalock 2018-04-26T11:22:36Z

Hahaha. This is a really funny take on the theme, these are **definitely** incompatible genres. Great idea and well-executed. Good job.

Super Antithesis Kart by Lameosine 2018-04-24T18:08:11Z

This is basically my favourite game from LD41 so far. The walking feels a little too slow, but then this game is all about not being in any hurry. Very good job, really emotive.

Super Sweet Crispy Crunchy Crunch DX ( the final fight edition ) by Angry Squirrels 2018-04-24T10:39:56Z

Great art and a fun premise. Very awesome.

Tetriphys: The Thing That Should Not Be by kr4ft3r 2018-04-29T13:47:13Z

The real humour in this game for me was in seeing how my strategies would fall apart on me, no matter how well I tried to plan it out: I guess we can thank the physics for this and I'm sure this was an intentional aspect of the game's design. Frustratingly fun and the audio works really well. Good job!

Pinboy-an RPG+ Pinball game by Colleen9416 2018-04-24T14:48:21Z

Very pretty game and I think you've hit on something here with great commercial potential, to match its artistry. A little clunky gameplay here and there doesn't distract from the overall feel of what comes across as a fairly polished game, with a well-executed concept. Great job!

The Waiting Room by Rayne 2018-04-24T17:36:32Z

Checked on it once or twice since I opened this game earlier today. Still waiting. In this respect I suppose the design is a resounding success and an interesting diversion from the usual, quick-fire popcorn-type games. I want to know what happens next, so I'm leaving this on. Intriguing!

Super Hyperspace Rythm Plus Ultra by Kichex 2018-04-26T11:46:26Z

Beautiful game and the music is awesome. Well done.

Dropzone Mars by helpcomputer 2018-04-24T19:14:14Z

Really enjoyed this. Frantic action with that gorgeous EGA palette. It feels like it has more in common with a tower defence than city builder, but either way it's a great little game that I'll be coming back to. Great work!

Scarry by Memel06 2018-04-25T19:01:08Z

This is really great, I wasn't expecting to need a microphone! Actually pretty tough to play in parts and I suppose that with further development, you could get that balancing perfect. But as it stands this is a funky little game and I love the sharp graphics. The audio really works with it all too. Good job!

GuitarPicks by Solnak 2018-04-24T13:34:21Z

Love the art style and the gameplay is pretty slick. Not sure these are truly 'incompatible' genres, but that's not really the point. This is a great piece of work.

Deep Space by SG Alin 2018-04-26T11:10:17Z

Very pretty and the mechanics work really well. I don't see the theme being used for this game, but the theme isn't everything! Great work.

Rogue Crush by Team Catwheel 2018-04-24T14:14:54Z

Very smart mashup. I had a lot of fun with this, the graphics and audio really sell the idea well. I could see this scaling up to a very competitive mobile title. Run with it!

Command Line Hero by BytingGames 2018-04-26T11:49:42Z

This provided me with a frantic experience. I was typing for my life! You've put a great amount of thought into making it difficult but not frustrating. Great job.

Honest Dan's Trout by Honest Dan 2018-04-24T14:10:58Z

A smart blend between two classic games... though not necessarily 'incompatible'. Bugs aside, I really liked the 1-bit graphics style (I did the same 80s palette for my own - very different - game). I wonder if different control layouts would work, such as controlling both paddle and piece rotation with the mouse simultaneously, to make it a bit tougher. Either way, very impressed with this. Makes you wonder why no one came up with it before. Great work!

Alchemist Adventure by Keppu 2018-04-25T22:37:50Z

This is a really solid entry, with lots of polish - especially in light of many of the other roguelikes submitted for this LD. Add to that the fact that this is all the work of one person and I think this is in my my top ten. Really awesome work.

The Iron Front by Darylsteak 2018-04-24T15:50:53Z

I liked this, even though I know it's probably not everyone's cup of tea. Due to the nature of the game, it feels a little like a hacking game and that's no bad thing. After a bit of playing, I started to get my head around the different tactics possible. At its core, this is a great sim, if you're willing to put the initial time into it. Great work.

MASHED by Ama 2018-04-24T11:02:12Z

Great use of the theme and the big silly graphics are swish!

Super Slime Slasher Ultra by sebastianscaini 2018-04-24T11:19:22Z

This is a silly silly game and I had a lot of fun with it. It's surprising how well polished the candy-coloured art is, given the 72 hours available to complete this entry - it feels a little bit like Adventure Time, which is no bad thing. Definitely one of favourite games so far.

Dirty Pink by Carpin 2018-04-26T11:32:49Z

Funkiest game on LD41! Nothing makes a game more sexy than dirty dirty synthwave. The graphics are adorable and the gameplay is solid. Also, the 'blockchain' aspect is a funny twist, very in-the-now. Great game, you should be proud of this.

INSiTU by tulipekoni 2018-04-24T13:31:54Z

I was really intrigued by this entry, so I got stuck in and quickly found it to be surprisingly ingenious. Actually quite tricky to get your head around when to use which perspective... but that's what makes it fun! Great entry and love the pixel art and moody intro.

Sneak To The Rhythm by BlakeMcDeezy 2018-04-26T10:54:46Z

I thought the graphics were really fitting for this. You've done the right thing in working to your strengths, which has produced a simply yet charming rhythm game, with some well thought out puzzle elements. I'm usually terrible at these kinds of games but I got "Smooth Criminal"... so I guess that's good, right? Great job.

Dancemazing by MariosManiatis 2018-04-24T14:16:03Z

Hilarious game, made me laugh so hard I woke up the dog.

Misty Night by sleepyGrin 2018-04-24T13:44:01Z

A really pretty game that has atmosphere in heaps. As some above have mentioned, the timing in the rhythm aspects feels off at times, but it doesn't mar the overall experience too much. Great seeing a solid vision like this come to life. Very awesome and the music is also brilliant.

Lost in Spacetime by zeMenno 2018-04-24T15:02:52Z

This is actually a really great idea - an exploration single-screen-swapping adventure, with an Asteroids control mechanic. I suppose it could be made (a lot) harder by adding Thust-like gravity to it, or power-ups that adjust the player physics. I'm only coming up with ideas though, because your underlying game is inspiring. Keep it retro!

Acid by vojtiman 2018-04-25T19:20:16Z

Good game, this. And quite a polished title for such a short timespan. Great job!

Rainy Day by WFMG 2018-04-26T11:08:38Z

A good, solid little tabletop game, that mashes the genre with an idler pretty well. Graphics are fair and the audio is hilarious. Well done.

Beet Farmer by oneseedfruit 2018-04-24T10:34:06Z

Very cool. Lots of fun!

Eyes on the Prize by phearbot 2018-04-26T11:06:33Z

Great vibe and aesthetic in this game. It plays really well in multiplayer. Sure the crafting didn't quite work how I expected, but this was a highly ambitious game in any respect and how much can anyone do in 72 hours? Really good stuff.

One-Sec Bullet-Hell by rainysolar 2018-04-24T12:10:14Z

Slick game, with very pretty graphics... like somebody set off fireworks on a very foggy evening! The TB element works really well.

Spiky by Cristhor98 2018-04-24T16:50:37Z

Really lovely graphics and I like the idea behind this. A lot more polish than one would expect for a game jam entry. I'm keeping this one on my PC for a while; I'll be coming back to it for sure!

Tower Deck Furenzy by Seanharrs 2018-04-25T19:15:55Z

A clever take on the two genres individually, but then combining them like this seems like you might be sitting on something with real commercial value if you feel like taking it further. Lots of fun!

fPONG by smileyface 2018-04-24T11:07:30Z

Lots of fun. Not sure these are incompatible genres as per the theme, but who cares? This game would work great in VR!

Falling Labyrinth by LarrySeinfeld 2018-04-24T19:08:46Z

I really enjoyed the mechanics in this game and I think you've fit the theme perfectly with the mashup of dungeon crawler and Tetris-like. Also, really feeling those monochrome graphics (like my own LD entry). Really great work, I'm keeping this one installed.

Space Captain Rodriguez by CalebLewis 2018-04-26T10:58:05Z

Great little entry, this. Some smart mechanics in the way the baddies' attacks are based on the player choice. Really good stuff :)

I bet that your CATS look good in the dance floor by agar3s 2018-04-24T17:32:19Z

Wow, this game came with a free seizure! Kidding, it's marvellous. By the end, I had the dance floor packed with crazy kittens. I was half-expect Nyan Cat to make an appearance. Clearly it was his night off. A really compelling game and the mechanics are executed beautifully. Well done.

Snail and Salt by Kaiomoi 2018-04-24T10:58:59Z

I really enjoyed this. I feel like I could actually get better at it with time, so there's replayability there!

Education to survive by loonydrope 2018-04-29T13:49:01Z

The simplistic graphics really help to see this experience, with mistakes hilariously punished, but never frustratingly so. Really enjoyed this.

A Kid's Nightmare by N.O.X 2018-04-24T14:21:41Z

A little difficult to find my way around, but I got into it eventually. What lurks behind is a genuinely creepy experience. The kid's perspective really brings a sense of vulnerability to it that you don't see in a lot of other games. Really good work.

Shepherd and Dog by obachuka 2018-04-25T19:23:32Z

I feel like a lot of thought went into this game. Beyond the smart design, the art and characters really gel, making this feel like a full-blown indie title. Controlling two characters simultaneously is always going to be tricky, but I'm sure a lot of players are far up to the task than I was. Audio's great, maybe could've done with some music. But other than that, gorgeous game. Really great!

The Colossal Carrot Caper by rush 2018-04-24T11:11:26Z

Really awesome GFX and an all-round fun-as-hell game to play. You should be very proud of this.

Controller Controller by PsilocybeGames 2018-04-26T11:19:41Z

This is a great game and the concept is a bit bonkers. The graphical style is cool, sort of retro EGA-ish and very fitting. Music and audio are also really good. I guess a little more player guidance wouldn't go amiss, but once you get the hang of it, this is a solid title. Oh and don't worry about 'Mr. No-Linux' above ^^ - he's been telling everyone off, including for my own game. Great work, you should definitely consider developing this further.

Crane Command by Hyohane 2018-04-24T12:57:31Z

This is a really great concept and you executed it very well, even if it is a little unfinished. I love the gfx and I got a real feeling of consequence for each of the strategies I tried. Very well done!

Culinary Creature Combat by ygrichman 2018-04-26T11:50:43Z

I love the crossover here and the graphics and music are very fitting. Really good solid entry!

Feed Me by Pyrodaes 2018-04-26T11:48:04Z

Really great mashup of these two genres. The graphics are absolutely on point and the whole thing has a very spooky tone. Well done.

Evil Bunnies by Team Luminous 2018-04-24T12:15:04Z

The concept is great, even if the gameplay's a little clunky. I'm pretty sure those rabbits cheated a few times! It may give me bunny-themed nightmares for a little while...

Overcharged by Cryovr 2018-04-25T19:09:37Z

Loving the minimal graphics and I think that with a little more polish this could make a solid commercial game. I personally found the physics to be pretty good - it's always tricky to get it realistic but playable when you're working with radial gravity, so my hat is off to you for pulling this off. Great work.

Star Brawler by SamuelDeboni 2018-04-24T11:05:51Z

Clever! I had a lot of fun playing this and could see this being developed into a full title. Well done!

Date Night by Darby Costello 2018-04-24T11:03:48Z

Haha. Hint: The date needs to be a success for **her**, not you!

Date Night by Darby Costello 2018-04-24T11:09:55Z

@bobismijnnaam Just the one. I originally envisioned four dates, but gradually realised that would be like writing four games!

Date Night by Darby Costello 2018-04-24T14:25:22Z

@le-slo Thanks for the great feedback! I was thinking you would need to block certain exits in order to steer Alice into the bedroom (so you can get the disco music plus disco lights dance routine). But after building in those features, I couldn't find a way to engineer that scenario, as her pathfinding was too damn good. So I left them in as red herrings.

Thanks @alineo. For some of us, dating is a horror story in and of itself!

@zeriver Many thanks for the feedback and well done on completing the game. I'm afraid not, the date is meant to be successful for **Alice**, not Trey. I flipped it on its head because, let's face it, Trey's a bit of an A-Hole!

@helpcomputer Boom. That was the exact game that inspired Date Night. Thank you for picking up on that.

Hi @densin, thanks for the thorough feedback.

I decided in the end to leave Trey to his fate, as a means of providing my commentary on the dating sim genre. Of course in doing so, the 'survival' aspect of Survival Horror was made somewhat redundant. The date thus becomes a success for **Alice**, not necessarily for Trey.

I take all of your points about the escape mechanics. I originally envisioned a procedural layout as you suggested, with lots of little mechanisms for blocking and allowing access. After scoping it down though (tick-tock!), these features were pulled. So I left those door-blocking mechanisms in as... red herrings? Not a puzzle device that I'm fond of, to be sure, but I just thought what the hell and left them in. Thanks again for playing, I may develop this further.

@pyrodaes Thanks for the great feedback.

FishX Brawl by Lars Olav Otten 2018-04-24T12:12:09Z

Took a while to download and play, but once I got it up and running, I found it really fun to play. The procedural physics is always a winner when it's done well... and you've certainly done it well here!

"You Sunk My Scrabble-Ship" by NTurnerGames 2018-04-26T11:00:16Z

This is highly theme-worthy, what a way to combine two definitively 'incompatible' genres. Good game!

Color Coder by SaberOfSong 2018-04-24T13:39:04Z

Smart little game, though it doesn't necessarily fall under 'incompatible genres'. Some tight gameplay but I guess there may have been other ways to explore what is essentially a really good core mechanic. Also, really enjoyed the EGA retro graphics, right up my street!

Jammer Tank by Jonnymentero 2018-04-26T10:51:51Z

Some wonderfully executed mechanics here. Those physics-based firing and jumping interactions are often tricky to pull off, but you've done a great job of it. It feels fun and never frustrating, like some other physics platformers can. Also, love that Wonderboy-esque flat graphical style. Really great job; develop this further!

Good Hamster — Dead Hamster by Sandy Marcius 2018-04-24T10:35:49Z

So, so silly. Love it.

Toaster Boy by FreypodGames 2018-04-29T14:50:05Z

This is really incredible I have students twice your age who can't pull off something as polished as this. The graphics are charming, the mechanics are solid and you should definitely keep developing this. Perhaps a way to get around objects that you're currently colliding with. I got stuck once or twice, but I'm sure this is easy enough to fix up going forward. Really well done, hugely impressed.

SmackPaint! Combat Painting with Ross Bob by GregWLyons 2018-04-24T13:27:02Z

I feel like I've been waiting for this game my whole life. Combat plus painting equals Double Therapy! I suppose a little better control wouldn't go amiss... though I doubt it would improve my terrible painting skills! Really awesome use of the theme and some nice little touches. Great work!

Sword step by DarthWaxus 2018-04-24T15:42:15Z

Awesome, you've either deliberately or unwittingly placed Samurai fighting against a Japanese flag background! Either way, cool concept and a lot of fun to play.

Ball-dash Arcade by Craig a 2018-04-26T10:49:06Z

This is a competent little puzzle platformer that works really well in multiplayer. A little more time on the graphics would help sell the experience better, I suppose. You can keep that cool retro vibe, while updating to some modern techniques, such as sprite normals, etc. Controls felt a little clunky at times, but that's nothing that can't be addressed with a little more time and polish. You should definitely develop this further, as it shows a lot of promise. Good stuff!

Super Ice-Cream Roller Ultra by Probe31 2018-04-25T19:26:02Z

Beautiful game, love that aesthetic. Many try it and few get it right, but you seem to have nailed it. A little more space to explore would've made the game a bit easier, but then the level of difficulty may be what you were going for. Glad to hear some great sound in there too, rating up!

Monstrously Hunky by CraigFortune 2018-04-24T11:49:39Z

I had a lot of fun with this, trying out all the different monsters and reading through the silly date lines. Turns out I'm a 100% match with Shikbak, The Ender of Underwear. Figures... Really great use of the theme and a solid LD entry. I'd have loved to go out on some proper dates with your monsters, like to restaurants, ice-curling, etc. But how much can anyone put together in 72 hours, eh? Awesome work!

POLITICS VS GAMES LOL by Lyje 2018-04-24T15:21:48Z

What starts out as a basic shooter soon gives way to a maddening number of changes to the creative direction. You can almost feel the presence of some irritating critic, standing over your shoulder making constant edits to the political correctness as you progress. By the end, the game has certainly made its point and the gameplay choices available to you have been reduced to all but binary. Not so much a game as a withering social commentary. And all the better for it. Thumbs up.

TorrejĂ³n Love Story by Yahialds 2018-04-26T10:39:34Z

Wow, this was an ambitious game, with pieces of multiple genres coming in from all angles!. Some of the aspects work better than others, but I think on the whole you've managed to build a pretty cohesive player experience. For a first-time jam, you should be proud of this!
