Wow! This is super amazing! Surpirsed you finished in time for compo.
i'm speechless, I started following you after the last ludum dare and again you create something fantastic, I'm glad that i played this
Pity there's no Linux version...
Thanks for the feedback everyone! @wsKilljoy I tried to do less this Jam as I wasnt doing a minimal sleep thing, just full days over the weekend... but you know how ideas bloat! :D
@BloooBird Hey! thanks for the follow! I do try to give it my all so glad it is appreciated.
@Blinkenlights I am afraid I have an old PC and don't have the knowledge of how to create for Linux or the ability to do iOs either. If you have any suggestions on how to port easily I would love to hear them. Thanks!
off to play all your games now :)
It was a really fun game to play. I like your 3D graphics. And another admiration go for the solo man army. We also make a cinematic game with pixel art. Mind to check it out: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/daxua
@designernap I believe Unreal 4 (I think that's what you're using?) supports Linux ports but I don't use it myself so I can't be sure. iOS is mach harder to port from what I've heard and you'd probably require an Engine that supports it. Unity certainly supports Linux (all the games I played on LD using Unity worked flawlessly) and apparently the other ports are quite reliable, though I assume you would prefer not to change Engines.
Hey @Blinkenlights, so I did some research, opened my project and found a way to export to Linux BUT... I am unable to do it! Apparently I need to have visual studio in order to build the engine for Linux and I only have retail Unreal. Not a programmer unfortunately. I have asked a couple of friends if they are able to covert it for me, so will see what comes back. Will definitely try to have something ready so next LD I can do it :)
@designernap Brilliant! Wish you good luck, looking forward to it!
Really nice! Love the slightly absurdist feeling from the combination of voice lines and objects. Presentation is really slick too.
Absolutely beautiful, great ambience and full of intrigue. This game had me hooked from the moment I realised I had no idea what was going on. There's a roguelike feel to the generated layouts that keeps you guessing what's around the next corner and the music and audio bring this great feeling of space to the whole piece. Even falling to my (presumable) death felt like... coming home. Really awesome game.
It's pretty amazing how you were able to create so much intrigue with such simple gameplay and story elements. The audio is excellent all around. It's also a complete game, it doesn't feel like anything is missing or needs to be added. It's my favorite compo game so far. Well done!
Fantastic game, really great atmosphere! Well done!
Wow! thanks for all the kind comments @Lyje @Darby Costello and @Vasco Freitas! Glad you all enjoyed it so much :)
Thanks @TurboSocks! really appreciate the comments :)
Really cool! Graphics and sounds are great for the short amount of time. I like these very experimental games. Two minor things: dont stand on the table, it will make you fly :-) and when I found the clock, it told me I was missing a clue at the same time, so the two text/speech lines overlapped a bit. Otherwise great entry!
It's incredible you did this in 2 days. It looks and sounds amazing. Love the whole aesthetic, the music and the planks falling off and what not. The generated "story" it's just full of nonsense, it's a neat idea, but a proper story would probably better. As for the game itself, it's really boring, you just walk aimlessly, from door to door. Overall good job and good luck for the future.
Thanks @tomdeal ! yeah, I left the table thing in as it was fun to fly up! Due to the nature of the random spawning of objects and lines it currently is possible for the fail state to trigger with a collection. Hard fix that one!
@xmatos Thanks! I do put a lot of effort in so glad it is appreciated. The "story" was in speech marks in the description for exactly that reason ;) it is more flavour text and abstract dialogue than any coherent attempt at a narrative. And as my aim was to combine "walking simulator" with procedural generation... yeah all you do is walk! ;) Thanks for the feedback!
I am genuinly suprised at how good a game this is. The 3d graphics are amzing and i am surprised that you did all this for the compo. Really impressive. Good job
It's a great use of the powerful unreal engine to actually make a really beautiful game !
Very odd, but the mood was great! Really enjoyed playing it. It was only after I read your description I realised it used a procedural system. It kind of really shows what is important in "walking-simulators": something that makes you constantly move forward, and constant bits of information given in a way that does not stop the exploration. Having a procedural part of it also makes you able to play it more then ones. A experiment i fully enjoyed, also helped that the voice-over was very good.
Hi and thanks @Emery @polegar and @HAUO. I tried to make something with simple ingredients that would end up more complex :) Kinda surprised it turned out so well honestly :)
WOW compo!!! I cannot belive it, we was glad that our towers fired at that time. You have created astonishing game, thank you :)
This was a really nice experience. What an astonishing game.
Thanks @spthiel and @Erunno! Iam off to check out your games next :)
You are an inspiration truly wonderful
A really unique game, it stands out from all the others I have played! You really created a cool atmosphere with the music and ambiance, I'm impressed you managed to pull this off in the Compo-jam. I personally feel that the game might be even better with some more variety in the environments but that would be too much to ask for such a short jam. Good work!
Thanks @mrwillowb and @TheM I went for simple procedural walls that had small variation but given more time and resources, I would totally make more environments and even give it a developed narrative :) Glad everyone is enjoying it though.
looks absolutely beautiful and exactly like the kind of games i love to play and make and we need more of this in ludum dare! but im on mac and cant play it lol any chance youll be doing a mac build?
Sorry @Sam-machell but I have no way of creating a version for mac. Currently struggling to find someone to help me put it on linux (for @Blinkenlights !) Despite the visuals of the game... I am working on a very old PC that struggles to run most modern games and have very little hardware to work with. I am afraid you will have to wait for the video walk through to see what it is all about! Many apologies.
Mixing walking simulator and procedural generation is a great idea. Dont thing there is a game out there like that. It runs well + plays well. The mechanics are great and I hope you continue to develop this further. Great work!!
Thanks @MZA! I think after all these comments I might have to take it further one day :)
Wow
@designernap Can I be of any service?
Awesome experience. I am not really sure what the game wants to tell me, but it was interesting.
That's the most intriguing game I've seen for this Ludum Game. The atmosphere was on point, reminded me how Stanley Parable made me feel. You just gained a new follower :)
Thanks @Smooth @smbe19 and @Amour Du Pain ! Stanley Parable!? wow! :D Lot of love for this one :)
Well @Blinkenlights ... if you have a version of unreal 4.18 and visual studio installed and have the time... that would be amazing! I read here how to do it - http://docs.unrealengine.com/latest/INT/Platforms/Linux/GettingStarted/index.html but the issue appears to be downloading the engine files and rebuilding for linux taking a lot of space. It may be different on a linux system? Like I said I am not very technical but any help or advice on this would be amazing, thank you!
Hi! Great game, music and overall mood is really nice. I'n not sure I followed the story behind it but I definitely enjoyed the sense of danger it triggers on you and the need to go forward. Maybe if we had to take dificult choices on each path and the game reflected on it would have been awesome, but then again, I might be missing the original point :D. Nice work!
Hey there. Your game has such an amazing mood and feel, that I really enjoyed playing it despite the lack of actual gameplay. For that to work, you had to put in a lot of time into the graphics and the music and all of that, and I think you did great! I wish you would have tried to work on something that is more a game than simply a pleasant experience, because it would no doubt stand out from the masses. But the time was probably the most constraining factor there, I guess. :D Especially nice was the "interactive" (for lack of a better word) menu screen and transition to the credits section, really liked that! Anyway, overall a nice entry and I enjoyed playing through the whole thing. Good work. :)
Thanks @Apace and @maesk! yes, time was somewhat of a factor with the gameplay side of things. Next Jam I am going to focus on gameplay first and get to the mood and atmosphere later... or not at all! ;)
I love looking back and seeing all the wooden planks fly up into the air. I like the overall concept too, kind of parodying the pretentious reputation some walking simulators have, in a funny way, while the game itself is a walking simulator. Nice job, short and sweet.
Very ambient and intriguing, while I felt the game was well without game, the mood you have created in this short story is superb. I really liked the idea of your combination and think you done a good job to create this, well done!
Thanks @Roka-Josh and @patrickgh3 ! The mood seems to be winning on this one :)
I feel really inspired after playing your game. So many options spring into mind how this kinda gameplay combination could be used in different ways. Atmosphere was really great, I liked the way disintegrating rooms and corridors forced you keep moving forwards. And how ambience, music and narrative created mood.
I kinda wished though that there was more content, more meaning to all is. I do realize that 48 hours is limiting the amount of content and developing. At moment this game is a kinda superficial, there are so many ways you could have taken it and made it more deep. Maybe in the end give player some task about objects and their meanings, as they are mandatory to pick up ( I missed one in my first attempt, I guess you could also draw more focus visually on them too). During my playthrough I was memorising the items at what they contained, as I was really sure that was information that was going play some kind role in the end. It made me feel like all the build up was for nothing.
@Tuomo Thanks for the feedback! Yes, I wish I had done more with it but alas, time caught up on me. At the beginning I had much higher hopes for how it would all go together and a meaning for each item and an effect on an end condition... in the end I went with "Functional" :) One day I may take this further but I was happy to leave it at working for the moment. Maybe when I have had more sleep! :D
Really relaxing game, despite the fact the entire level will disappear if you don“t move :D.
This game will make you reflect about life (if you are on the mood for that).
I enjoyed a lot.
Thank you @shackra! Glad you found it relaxing and reflective :)
On the title screen, I noticed I was playing v 1.3. I'll assume you're playing fair and you released that within the submission hour and the numbering is just a weird development quirk.
I love the title screen. The animation borrows from the rest of the game while still looking distinct. The animation of the disappearing level in general is amazing. This is by far the best-looking and most aesthetically interesting Unreal game I've seen in a Ludum Dare.
The narrative made me chuckle a good few times. The echo adds a tone of taking-itself-seriously that's undercut in a tongue-in-cheek way with the absurdist statements and comedic timing. What you probably didn't intend is that the timing reminds me very strongly of a 90s preschool-level edutainment style ("_click on the...APPLE_")
All in all, a great-looking, great-sounding game that doesn't overstay its welcome and offers a quick surreal and absurdist adventure. Nice work.
Wonderful presentation! The audio is fantastic and the graphics are great! The polish on this is outstanding. The fade out when you fall, atmospheric sounds, everything contributes so well to the mood. I enjoyed this very much.
This is incredible. The graphics are amazing, I couldn't stop myself from watching the wood flying in the sky, even if I meant that I died because the floor would disappear... Great job, congratulations.
Very, very impressive. The atmosphere you have achieved is really polished despite the game being quite minimalistic. And the procedural narration system has been built really well, you could do some wicked things with this! Kudos on a great job! :D
