LD39 — Running out of Power

VUEL by Jezzamon 2017-08-01T11:48:22Z

Really good game! A lot of fun, tactical gameplay. However sometimes I ran into spots where there was no enemy and no battery around, so I just ran out of power without being able to do something. Don't know if that was intentional, but it sure felt like the RNG was against me. Anyway, great entry!

PowrConnectr by JOrbits 2017-08-01T13:11:19Z

My favorite entry so far! Nice twist on the usual pipe dream puzzle game with a few fun new mechanics! I had a hard time figuring out the fail mechanic on the red cores (I didn't understand that connecting a red core to a microchip results in failure) but apart from that everything was easily understandable. The mechanics allowed for fun levels which created a lot of fun solving. Rounded out with the nice music and visuals make for a great game. Good job!

Bead on the moon by Hishicorne 2017-08-01T12:45:28Z

Really nice game, good job! I like the humor in the dialogues and in the client interactions. Great job on the art, it's awesome! Overall, very nice game!

Electric Neon by kamikaziuk 2017-08-02T23:02:40Z

I love it! Absolutely love it. The car feels so smooth to drive, it's a lot of fun trying to master the mechanics and cut every corner and push the car to the limits! The music and the art fit perfectly together and create a nice, fitting atmosphere. Well done!

Drainor by RainbowKappaGames 2017-08-01T12:15:03Z

Very fun and simple gameplay! I really enjoy these types of games. Everything else was done nicely, except for maybe the aiming (the gun should shoot where the cursor is, but it just shoots forward and you look towards the cursor). I felt the game was a bit too easy though, so you maybe could've made it more difficult, or put an option for a hard mode where you can't even get hit once or the spawn rate of enemies is double.

Also, I really loved that you put some story in. Not only outside of the game on the submission page, but also in the game itself as an intro.

Either way, really nice entry! Well done!

Back Home by Angry Squirrels 2017-08-02T12:08:08Z

What a nice experience! The game truly delivers a relaxing atmosphere, both through the visuals and the audio. Well done! However I felt the controls could have been improved. They were extremely sensitive for me (using the Steam Controller) which made the game more difficult than it probably was intended to be. A simple sensitivity slider could have solved this problem.

Anyway, this is a great entry to the jam. Thanks for creating!

Light Box by Apace 2017-08-01T10:40:56Z

Hey there, thanks for playing! The thing that probably confused you is that once you click the light that would turn off all lights (i.e. the first light in the center) it will instantly load up the next level (i.e. turn on random lights!). Probably should have made that more obvious by leaving all lights off for a few seconds.

Thanks for the feedback!

Light Box by Apace 2017-08-01T12:05:24Z

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I probably should've let someone else play the game before submitting, then I would've probably noticed the problem with switching levels immediately! Note to self: give game to others for playtesting. I've added a note under "how to play" for new players to clear up the confusion.

Light Box by Apace 2017-08-03T00:18:33Z

Thanks for all the new feedback!

@incobalt, the game is poorly optimized, I'm very sorry. It actually runs faster on my phone than on my laptop, haha.

The slider on the front of the box controls the volume. Should have made that visible somehow, probably.

I'll try to incorporate all of your feedback for a post-jam version! Either way, I'm learning a lot through your comments, so thank you all!

Energy Scraps by Royoyo 2017-08-01T11:38:01Z

The environment is really well done, good job on that and on the art! However I have to agree with the others that the gameplay especially before getting the first movement speed and transfer speed upgrade is a bit slow and more of a chore than actually fun. I think with some music and tweaking of the mechanics this could be a really fun game to play!

Running Outer-PWR by Amatwiedle 2017-08-03T00:45:43Z

I like the game concept a lot. Running around, trying to survive just long enough while having to repair those solar panels, that was a lot of fun! I really wanted to beat this game, but didn't manage, sadly, because I encountered a lot of bugs that had me restart the game. One bug that got me twice was that when you fall in here: bug.png you won't get out there (you're stuck floating in the air without the ability to jump). Another time I wasn't able to jump anymore, not sure why, but it was at this wall: bug2.png.

With a version that is a little bit more polished, and maybe with more consistent graphics, this would be a really great game! But despite its problems it was still a lot of fun to play.

Cyclades Travelling Sailor by rightangel 2017-08-02T13:04:09Z

Very nice artstyle! It was really enjoyable to play just by the way it looks. Throw in some relaxing music to create an even better atmosphere! While the underlying gameplay is very nice, I feel like the game needed a bit more, for example some stations where you can refuel your ship, in order to make the levels more complex. All in all, nice submission!

Rats will kiss the gunner's daughter by Mr.Houdini 2017-08-03T00:08:00Z

Really nice, innovative game! I don't know of anything like it. Reading through the comments I gather that difficulty seems to be varying quite a bit. I haven't had any problem, the game had a good level of difficulty, with many people saying different things. For the last day I managed to figure out who needed some money to talk, and who needed some violence. That resulted in everyone saying the same one being the most loyal, except for the mutineer. Great, I killed the right guy!

Really nice entry, with good art and a nice music. An immersive and fun experience! Thanks for creating.

Edit: Only thing I don't like: the game was packed in a .rar instead of a .zip, so I had to go ahead and download a program just for unpacking. It was worth it, but still kind of a nuisance.

Last Train Out by amarcu 2017-08-02T11:55:31Z

Nice concept, great art, good use of the theme! Well done!

Poskok by Peping 2017-08-01T12:51:31Z

The game concept is really, really great. I love the way you pick up coffee and paper and have to serve it to the table! Well designed! With complete graphics (i.e. for the paper and coffee) and some sound and polish, this would be a great game!

Super Power Frenzy by AlexanderTeaH 2017-08-02T23:41:17Z

Dude, easily one of my favorite games here! Really nice visuals, nice sounds, nice music, everything is just great. Felt really rewarding once you figured out how to move properly (used the Steam Controller). Will be playing this a lot, already added it to my Steam library!

Fleeting powers by Stracker 2017-08-01T12:31:58Z

The powers are really well done, good job! If the normal attack would've been usable while I have powers available though, that would've been great, as a lot of the time I found myself just circling around the edge of the map, waiting for more enemies to spawn and group up, before using the next power.

Great work overall!

May the power be with you by Kappalite 2017-08-02T13:11:49Z

Such a wonderful game! Really good, well-crafted experience! I just love how so little can turn out this big! Great work!

Submergence by Elizziebeth 2017-08-01T12:25:22Z

Though the gameplay is lacking a lot, I really feel what you were going for. The mood with the limited visibility and the music just fits together perfectly and together with the story part on the second panel creates an eerie, mysterious atmosphere. Good job!

Not Politically Correct by Jaggent-aka-shouke 2017-08-01T11:15:06Z

I can only agree with the others: the start was quite brutal. But, after I figured out what I need to do it was a lot of fun managing everything! The pixel art is really pretty as well. Great job!

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Volcano Rush! by jharler 2018-12-04T22:15:58Z

This is just too difficult! I couldn't for the life of me get past the third stream of lava. (Don't worry, I am probably just bad.)

Anyway, I like the game. The gameplay is smooth and feels good (apart from my obvious problems with the lava streams), the music fits the theme and the death sound is awesome.

Great entry. :)

Craftsman by Gao Ming 2018-12-05T09:42:22Z

Nice game! Very unique concept and idea and great execution. Love it!

The War of the Four Races by wrexialmt 2018-12-04T22:07:13Z

Hi! I like the game! Even if it's quite simple - the core concept is nice. I'd love to see some more features in this. Sometimes I felt like I had very little control over what was going on, and maybe other powers, like pushing some guys around, or being able to freeze some creatures for a short while, would be really awesome! I agree with the other comment that looking back and forth between GUI and gameplay was difficult at times, but it wasn't too bad.

Mermaid VS Unicorns by mrwillowb 2018-12-05T11:19:21Z

It was... interesting? I don't know, I think the gameplay of flying upwards and shooting things could work quite well! However, how you did it was a bit confusing. For one, in a game like this I think the player needs to see more. So maybe you could have moved the camera out a bit, because it was very difficult to know where you're headed - especially when you're in the air and there's no things around you to tell how fast you're going. I'm also not a huge fan of the shooting mechanics - why do I shoot so many things in random directions instead of just one bullet where I'm clicking? Anyway, the core concept is nice, but I felt the execution was a bit lacking. Still a nice entry though.

Duplicube by joewan 2018-12-03T08:52:35Z

Fun, polished game! The movement felt predictable and controllable, which is always great for a game which requires platforming precision. The little audio that the game had was nice and supported the game's overall aesthetic. I have to agree with @acoto87 though that the font was difficult to read, and maybe also not very fitting for the game's minimalistic appearance.

I would have loved to see some more experimentation with the basic premise of the game though. Your levels seem to ramp up quite heavily on the platforming side, while I would have loved to see some more puzzle elements. But, I understand that level design and puzzle mechanics are hard to come by in 48 hours. ;)

Nice entry.

Kingdom Decisions by DeathStorm 2018-12-05T09:24:49Z

I liked the gameplay a lot! Took me a while to figure out how everything works (like at the beginning I didn't understand that I was missing resources to do stuff and just thought the game was buggy :P), but after that it was a lot of fun! I went with the Lifequality route and managed to win in my first run. :) I think some music and sounds as well as a short tutorial would do wonders to make this game appeal to more people. But overall, the game was great for the limited time you had to create it!

Four Deities by Apace 2018-12-03T09:40:43Z

@Raphnika Thanks!

@nightmaresdev Thank you. :) I tried to keep it consistent, given the lack of my drawing abilities. I hope it isn't too much of a turn-off.

@slizzben Thanks! I'm glad you only found one bug, because I'm sure there's more. ;) I appreciate the bug report though!

Four Deities by Apace 2018-12-04T21:49:45Z

@kultisti Thanks! I like your game's graphics better though. Funny thing, our pixel fonts look almost exactly alike!

@game-mon Thank you. :)

@virtual-turtle-studio I really appreciate the elaborate feedback! I completely agree that there's not a whole lot to do, especially in the beginning (and as soon as you know the tastes of the deities). Extending this with some RTS elements, to make you command the villagers and control the village of your own is definitely a good idea. It just wasn't in the scope of the jam for me. :D I can see how the feedback is lacking! Definitely. This was actually one of the problems I already found while playtesting, and I remedied it a bit by adding some particle effects for a few of the gods' actions. There's certainly not feedback for all actions in there yet, and also gods may react "neutral" to a sacrifice and don't do anything. But I deliberately stayed away from explicitly telling the player whether the god liked something or not (with a satisfaction meter or something alike), because I thought it'd be more fun if the player had to guess from the environmental changes. But yes, I can see where my thought went wrong! Thanks for the useful feedback and the kind words. :)

Four Deities by Apace 2018-12-05T19:37:04Z

@mrwillowb @koemeterion @daniel-abeleira @codesity Thanks a lot! @jharler Thanks for the nice comment. :) I am sorry that it was too confusing for you, I agree the gameplay is not quite obvious. (See explanation below)

@owen-rees Sorry! So, the main problem is that you do not have to do anything in order for the villagers to reproduce. The village runs on its own. The only thing you have to do is provide the gods with sacrifices.

Why the villagers might not have reproduced: you did not have enough housing - one house can support two villagers. If you have twice the amount of villagers than you have houses, they will not reproduce. They not only need housing though, they also need food. The food is shown in the GUI on the right (top icon) and depends on the number of crops and the number of sheep. Every villager needs "one food". What can also happen is that you gave the goddess of love (Menocha) something she didn't like. Then some "no-love" particles appear in the village and no love action is gonna happen until you give Menocha something she likes more.

Airtime by Virtual Turtle Studio 2018-12-03T12:06:57Z

675! While I don't think the game fit the theme as well as some others I played, I really enjoyed this. Nice puzzle mechanics and the level design was quite good. I agree with you that I would love some more levels added to this! Also, some music would have been nice, but I can't complain given the great game you made with only 28 hours of time.

Hats off!

Curse of the eastern god by Adrien Dittrick 2018-12-03T10:37:18Z

This is a really nice game. I enjoyed the story a bit too much, made me play the end sequence more than I originally wanted to. The graphics and music and sounds are all so nice and come together for a great experience. I can only recommend playing this.

On a Cultist hill by Kultisti 2018-12-03T12:15:18Z

Hi! Really nice game here. I love the graphics you created, and the audio is quite supportive. Also, I think you introduced new mechanics along the way really well. Good job on those mini-tutorials inbetween! The game is a nice, cohesive whole. Well done!

Ludum Dare: The Game by Darylsteak 2018-12-03T08:33:54Z

> Too lil features. Quite a few bugs. Needs more polish.

Hey there! First game I'm playing this LD. I really like the game idea, fits the theme perfectly. The dialogue was very funny in places, which is always nice! Usually I try to leave at least one idea of how to improve the game, but I really can't think of anything. Both execution and design are very solid in my opinion.

Overall, I really like the charm of what you created here. Nice job.

M-ss-ng Ch-r-cters by ConnorThompson 2018-12-03T10:16:48Z

Hey there. Awesome work! I was lucky enough to make it to 10/10 on the first try, otherwise I would have had to play again. I really enjoy the visual polish here. Some sounds would make this a great overall experience.

One small suggestion: when the entered word is incorrect, show the player what the real word was. It is frustrating to know you're never going to find out what that one word was you couldn't guess.

I agree with you that the idea is a bit small and therefore you think this "isn't exactly the most fun". But I think you managed to execute this idea quite well. The problem here is that the game can't really be easily expanded upon. But I can imagine this fitting well into a bigger collection of minigames with some metagame around it, something like "You don't know Jack".

I really enjoyed playing this though, nice entry. :)

Edit: re-reading my comment made me realize that it seems like I didn't want to play again. I did, and I played again. Sorry if that came across weird.

Overpopulation by Centauri 2018-12-03T09:38:15Z

Hello you two!

I really liked the idea and how it fits the theme so well. I guess I'm just a big fan of dystopian games in general. ;)

The human model turned out really well I think, and the posters on the back wall give the environment a nice touch. I feel like you could have improved the user experience a little. For example, I thought it was confusing that the font size in the report changed depending on the amount of content - made it just a little bit harder to parse every time. Also, being able to view the guidelines while a new person was walking in would have been nice. Especially at the beginning when you didn't have the rules memorized yet, that would have proven very useful.

Birds in Space by PopDaddyGames 2018-12-05T11:13:04Z

The controls feel reeeeaally good, very nice job on those! I wish to see a more elaborate game based on that system. But even in this short jam version, it's already quite nice!

Volcano Fling by Barrier 2018-12-03T12:22:05Z

Really fun minigame! Not much to say here. The gameplay is really nice for the first few minutes, for more than that it's a little too simplistic. But I enjoyed it, good job.

Breeze Wanderer by Luca1152 2018-12-04T21:58:22Z

Hi Luca! Nice game. I really enjoy the puzzle concepts you introduced. However, I feel like this is not really a puzzle game. To me, it seems a bit more like a reaction-based game, with fast and precise mouse movements required. Anyway, as you said in previous comments, a zoomed-out version where the screen does not pan would have definitely been better. I'm quite sad that you didn't have the time to do that, because I would have loved to see a version where it's not as difficult to click the fans when the screen is scrolling! But, apart from that, I think the game is really promising and the minimalistic look is quite pleasing and supports the game's feel well. :)

Archibald's Snobbish Journey by Thomas_Bringer 2018-12-04T21:44:46Z

18 objects! Really nice game. :) I enjoyed the cute graphics (especially the trees in the background!) and the gameplay was nice and fun as well. Great entry!

Be The Bridge by Codesity 2018-12-05T22:44:20Z

Sweet idea! It was really interesting and fun to play. :) I agree with the comment two comments above me though. The "space to drop" feature is simply not necessary and just an extra button to press. They are never (except for in the first gap, maybe) in the right place and you always have to move them. So just dragging them from the core would have been nice!

Alain's Sacrifice by Daniel_Abeleira 2018-12-05T22:35:11Z

Nice! Can't say anything that hasn't been said already. I don't know why, but I am a fan of the animations. I liked it!

Offshoot by Owen Rees 2018-12-05T19:45:12Z

Oh, this was fun! The sounds and music were pretty sweet. The different weapon combinations possible really made me play again and again. With some more visual polish this could be really great!

Santa's List by koltzow 2018-12-03T09:04:50Z

Wow. Just wow. The mood in this game is really good. The monotonic color palette and the announcer's voice in the background, combined with the "dystopian" music and the sound effects. Really great.

Also, I loved that the elves' health was not only displayed as a number, but also in the way they look. Great addition!

I haven't quite figured out what the best strategy is, but after I found out that elves respawn when they die, the game suddenly got a lot "easier"! Before that, I thought I was gonna fail.

I think killing elves should somehow affect you negatively instead of just being part of the score in the end. Maybe have them drop / raise the other elves' productivity semi-randomly because they get scared of you?

Anyway, really nice entry. Just in time for christmas as well.

Battle of the Occultists by SlizzBen 2018-12-03T10:03:44Z

Wow, the mechanics are awesome! The twist on the usual card game, that you need to craft your minions, is an awesome idea and incredibly fun. One thing the game needed was a more overall introduction to the game. While you introduced AP and sacrificing minions, I had no clue how the card draw worked in this game. Took me a while to figure it out (I might be dumb...) but after that I had a blast!

Thanks for creating this, it was really fun. You should consider creating a more elaborate version of this. :)

LD44 — Your life is currency

Pixel's Inferno by boddiul 2019-04-30T11:58:22Z

I really liked this! How did you manage to create all this on a phone? That's amazing. The humor was really nice as well. :)

FINGER FIGHTER - High Stakes by Erik Brunnstrom 2019-05-01T12:13:37Z

Really nice concept. Also the sound effects and the graphics are really smooth and fun to look at. At first it was difficult for me to see and read everything, the colors are a bit too bright in my opinion. Some more contrast to distinguish background from foreground (and text!) would have been helpful. I also agree with the others that the countdowns etc should have been a bit quicker, but that is just nitpicking. Great entry!

ChemisTree by tthe 2019-05-01T15:37:59Z

This is such an interesting game! I love the concept, honestly. I really think this could be something awesome. You could show the chemistry laws while the game is running to help the player out a bit more. Other than that, this is number one on my list so far!

The Capitalist's Curse by Ash Ketchup 2019-04-30T12:29:05Z

It may not be well polished or finished, but at least you didn't give up like many others have! Congratulations on pulling through and putting what you did out there. I hope you learned something on your journey, because that's what Ludum Dare is for!

Piggy the Bank by Kusaihana 2019-05-01T12:33:51Z

The idea of pickups being essentially bad for you (but also necessary to gain points) is a really nice touch. I think it was a bit too easy though, especially because there were not many different elements to it (like ducking instead of jumping for some obstacles) which made it get repetitive. I stopped playing at 7000. Loved the art though! Especially the decoration in the background made the world seem more alive. Good job on that. :)

My Life is Cactus by Aqshay 2019-04-30T12:09:07Z

Took a while to figure out how it works, but then I wanted to try to get better. Unfortunately it seemed really difficult, the damage and health boost seem to weak at the beginning and to get enough life for more cacti / upgrades takes so long that the whole place is swarmed with zombies.

I like how you used the different colors on the cacti to mark different cactus types.

Also, the move left key (a) seemed to move to the right, and I was unable to move to the left, which was a bit annoying.

But overall I liked it :)

Tiny Roguelike by fitret 2019-04-30T08:16:46Z

As others said, the idea behind this is really fun. A bit of balancing should prevent the game from becoming boring too quickly - after I received the fireball power it all got a bit too easy. Anyway, the core is really nice!

Devil's Dirty Work by Sinitax 2019-04-30T12:20:15Z

This was very very fun! The game got me into the flow and just when I thought I was gonna win, I fell into the lava, 3 souls short of 100! But the devil was gratious and accepted the souls anyway, so now I can sleep well knowing that I saved my soul AND my LD submission.

I loved it, very polished, nice art, sweet soundtrack. Only thing to improve I can think of is the (too lengthy) process of restarting after you died. Because I died quite often.

The Ball's Path by EricRou 2019-05-01T12:22:19Z

I would have liked to play more! However, even when I reached level 1 and died there, I had to restart back from the beginning of the tutorial. I think you should have included checkpoints. After several times of redoing the tutorial, I got a bit frustrated, especially because I ran into the "can't shoot more than once" bug several times. Also, it would have been awesome if you included some kind of visual effect that shows that the ball is actually rolling - right now it looks like it's gliding above the ground! But that was probably out of scope for the jam, so no worries!

Other than that though the controls were nice and I think this is a fun game concept.

EXCESS by ratz 2019-05-01T15:47:17Z

Sweet! Couldn't resist playing to get the highest possible score. :) The game feels smooth and the visual feedback is awesome. The added bullet spread to reward players who get closer to the enemies is another nice touch. Well-rounded entry! Thanks! Untitled.png

LD45 — Start with nothing

Unwatered by bazld 2019-10-09T12:13:15Z

Nice, made it through all the levels by myself, only afterwards saw the spoilers here! I thought level 4 was much more difficult than level 5 though, but maybe that's just me (though seeing as many others struggle with level 4, it might be a thing).

Entertaining and unique art style for sure, even though I feel like a game about flowers could use a little bit more color. :P

No.thing by adliberum 2019-10-09T13:07:18Z

Can't add anything that others haven't said already. Nice piece!

The Monkey and the Tree by Apace 2019-10-07T11:22:53Z

Thanks for playing. Sorry for not making the in-game instructions clear enough. The tree grows by you using your mouse. You have to move the mouse from left to right (or up/down, whatever, but back and forth). Whenever you change direction, the tree grows by one layer. Depending on the size and position of the movement, the tree will grow thicker or thinner and towards specific directions.

Neon Void by egawag 2019-10-07T12:11:12Z

What a nice game. I enjoyed the atmosphere which was created by the music. The sound design was superb. Regarding the graphics: this is how all minimalistic games should be. You used cubes, mainly, but they were complemented by nice particle effects and animations wherever possible. Just pretty.

I especially like what you did with the ending.

Edit: one minor flaw I think the game has is the difficulty. To me, it seemed quite easy collecting all the powers, I think I encountered only 3 evil shadows? At the end, when moving in to summon the secret power, I really enjoyed the difficulty. In my opinion, that's how the game should have been the whole time. ;)

Checkboxes by mandrilltiger 2019-10-09T19:24:59Z

Very nice innovative puzzle game idea. I think the piano notes were a nice fit as well. Good job on the level design and the whole game in general!

Red Shirt Flying Super Powers Man by Netherlab 2019-10-09T11:52:39Z

Nice game! I liked the style of the characters, minimalistic but very clear! I have to say, it's quite difficult though. On my first run I didn't even find a single powerup before the zombies killed me! Anyway, the gameplay was fun and also very interesting (in a good way) due to the fact that it was still "physics-enabled" and zombies were able to launch you into the air when they ganged up on you or pushed you over a fence when you would otherwise be stuck. The laser felt a bit too weak in my opinion, but that might just be because it lacked feedback. Simply giving the laser some effects, like sound or extra particles, when it hits an enemy, would make it feel a lot better. ;)

On another note, I love your sound effects. They're funny as hell and really made me laugh. Thanks for that.

Bumparound by beepyeah 2019-10-09T12:25:29Z

Nice. I really enjoyed playing it. Very polished, well thought-out game mechanics which fit nice with the theme, beautiful and fitting sound effects. This has everything. Gave up after I failed for the Xth time at level 7, because it does feel a bit "random" and less in my hand whether I win or not, given the random nature of the level generation and the hidden layout.

Great entry though!

Eventualities by Human Writes Code 2019-10-07T11:13:40Z

What a nice concept! I really like the idea of a kind of "detective" game, where you actually play a role in what you are "being detective about" (difficult to say what I mean!). I also enjoyed the calm background music and the sounds of typing and the messenger. What I didn't like as much was how many times I got back to the first sentence, but that's just the nature of the game I suppose, I can't expect you to write millions of lines of dialogue in a weekend.

Also, I managed to only get 4/6 right, and I'm not sure if I just clicked the wrong button, but it was kinda sad that I had to start from the beginning again with zero solution items, therefore I didn't feel like trying again even though I really wanted to know what happened.

Delta Test Site by Derek Volker 2019-10-07T13:21:49Z

I agree with zuf that the game was a little bit slow-paced. But I liked the graphics and the music was super awesome. Also, really nice job on the physics, they felt really good in the game.

Nada by croben 2019-10-07T13:14:01Z

The graphics are super sweet! And not only that, the whole game feels really nice and polished, even the menues, which are often neglected by other jammers. Good job!

Missing Entry by cyriaque 2019-10-07T10:34:20Z

One note: I feel like you could have stated the instructions more clearly when you ask people to enter new stuff. The first thing you enter is the choice you see on the current screen, and afterwards there should be a "reaction" of the game to what happened. Right now the game contains some strange stuff, like "I walk left, to the haunted forest". Then I would expect something like "I enter the depths of the forest. Strange sounds surround me." but instead the game gives me "I take a nap.", which should be a next possible action, not what is given to me from the game.

Other than that: This is such a great idea. Actually start with nothing as a game and then let the community, the players, build the game themselves. This is a really awesome narrative game concept, I can't even believe it. It could become so much! But I worry a bit about what people enter into the system. Let's hope it goes well! I will be checking back later, when there's hopefully more to it.

Edit: I also really enjoy that you added the possibility to add pictures, even though there is of course the danger of abuse. But the way you then also filter the pictures to fit into this "console" theme, is just really great.

Fairytiles by fre 2019-10-09T13:40:54Z

This isn't the first interactive fiction game I played this LD, but it's definitely the best!

The possibilities you thought of sometimes surprised me quite a bit, and the narrator made me laugh. Thanks for that.

Chemical Horror by The Blue Hatted 2019-10-09T14:59:13Z

I **really** like the art and the sounds! The idea of building a creature in this way is also very neat. I just wish there would have been more to do with the creature, but I guess the game as it is was already quite a huge chunk of work for one weekend. Good job!

Not Even A Jump Yet by Nikita Demidov 2019-10-07T12:41:04Z

Nice little platformer. I got up to the level where I learned "dash", but it was very difficult to know where you need to go. I think you should have increased the view a little, so the player is able to see ahead a bit more.

Also, quite a critical bug: touching anything red didn't kill me. Enemies didn't kill me, and the red ground at the bottom of the dash level didn't kill me either. So I had to go back to the main menu and start all over, which left me frustrated.

I liked how you built the levels though. The additional abilities gained were well complemented by levels which required them! Good job.

Purpose: Unknown by Frogravity 2019-10-07T11:45:29Z

This is nice. It's very refreshing that you did not decide to focus on either gameplay or narrative, but instead managed to put in both - some fun gameplay along with a story. Thanks for that!

Void Rabbit by JoshuaRabbit 2019-10-09T11:44:45Z

Nice game! I really liked your idea of allowing the player to actively "hear" things. Added a nice new layer on top of the gameplay. Also, really interesting story, with the bunny-magician storyline, especially with a great ending, which was not only funny but also very thoughtful and philosophical.

I also really liked how you guided the player through the different screens. At no point in the game did I feel like I didn't know where to go, you always provided directions. Good job!

Solid entry, I liked it. :)

It never started with nothing by Lukvasando 2019-10-09T12:03:18Z

Great idea for a game mechanic in my opinion. Allowed some interesting puzzles, like the one with the ball heap, as well as some more "timing-skill-based" sequences with the floating balls. The music and atmosphere was amazing as the others have already said.

One thing I think could be improved: the "doors" were 1) not immediately clear to me as checkpoints and 2) I first tried to actually "enter" the checkpoint by pressing up or W as it might be the case in other games. That had me confused at first, so you could try to make that a bit clearer in some way by notifying the player that their progress had been saved.

Blank Page Syndrome by okkolobr 2019-10-07T11:19:03Z

I agree with the others that the ball was difficult to steer! But other than that, nice little game, with relaxing background music and a nice interpretation of the theme.

Small Town by Emiliabea 2019-10-09T13:13:37Z

I liked it! Charming artstyle and well-chosen background music in my opinion. And a lovely little story for this LD theme.

Click-N-Move by TwinTurboDouche 2019-10-07T13:06:38Z

Hmm! I wish it would have gotten harder a bit quicker. I don't know, it all felt really easy, especially once I got my hands on the plasma gun, up until suddenly it all got out of control and I died! Ha, but anyway, I think with a bit quicker progression, (maybe only if you see a lot of accuracy from the player?) and some more elements to maybe spice up the gameplay a bit - I don't know, maybe collectible power-ups? - this would be fun much longer than it was for me! But I don't wanna talk all bad! It was nice and simple at its core, yet fun (who doesn't love a bit of running and gunning - or "clicking and moving"?). The music was simplistic but not annoying. The art style of the environment was coherent and fit well together. Nice entry overall!

Tom is Lonely by pedromgdo 2019-10-07T11:57:56Z

When I read "Tom is Lonely" I immediately expected a puzzle-platformer similar to "Thomas was Alone", but what I got was completely different!

The controls took some time to get used to, as they are very different from what we're used to seeing in other platforming games. However, once I played with them a while, it was actually quite fun trying to slither my way through the projectiles mid-air!

I managed to beat all ten levels, but I wish it had some kind of "end screen", so I could tell you how many deaths it took me - once I reached the end it immediately went to the main menu and I couldn't see the death counter anymore.

Wordplay by FoolishFire 2019-10-07T10:54:40Z

Phew, this is too difficult for me. I only managed to get to "populated" after 10 minutes of play time. So yes, I agree with what you said before, that there should be some kind of "hinting" at words which need to be built. However, I liked what I saw. Minimalistic and simple, well executed idea. Sadly didn't get to the music, so I'll leave the audio rating out I think.

Semantics by WashingMachinae 2019-10-07T12:31:22Z

Huh, what a creative game. The idea is so nice, playing a part in a TV show.. thing.. and then switching to different channels. It's super creative and fun! I wish you would've had more time to develop this further, for example the two channels which currently just have their logo. But what you've got is already very fun and humorous! I loved the moment when I realized you could actually talk to one guy in the audience on the first show. Super fun.

LD46 — Keep it alive

Entropia by Kaisean Games 2020-04-24T15:03:33Z

Very innovative game concept. Really cool turn based strategy game. Apart from the concept itself, I really enjoyed the art style and the relaxing background music. Very well put together game overall. Nice job!

not quite home by daniel 2020-04-23T12:25:30Z

Nice entry, very relaxing music and atmosphere. I love the pixely look you gave the 3d graphics - very pleasing in my opinion!

O Captain! My Captain! by jamioflan 2020-04-23T12:52:44Z

Very fun review! RobinOS guides the player beautifully through the missions, with a personality that's fun to be around. As previously said, the RobinOS screens and the screen in the cockpit were really well done. I also liked the fact that you provided directional hints on where to go, it made the game more fun in my opinion. Good job on this!

Egg's Dream by Apace 2020-04-23T13:13:58Z

@erin @briibot @god-colo @black-flag @bulent-altinay Thanks for all your nice comments! We hoped the missing air control would bring a new level of required precision into the platforming, especially with the fact that you can't be jumping too far or too long without losing the egg. However, it seems that we have overdone it a bit and made the game a tad too difficult. Thanks that you played it anyway, however far you might have gotten. In hindsight we probably should have introduced a little bit of air control by default, and let the purple potion increase the level of control you get. Would have probably made the game more enjoyable for everybody.

The Treekeeper by Rkuhl 2020-04-24T15:09:26Z

Nice game, interesting mechanics, albeit a little weird! Slashing bushes to get some chicken in order to feed a tree, lol!

Nature of Fear by Omickron 2020-05-03T07:09:19Z

Very unique and interesting art style, would definitely like to see more of this! I agree with the others though, the UI behaved very weird at times with sentences being cut off ("This is the end of the", "Go to the") and after the object search, I got teleported, then couldn't move and the game went back to the main menu. I assume this was a bug and not the end, because you show a screenshot on this page where Dark congratulates the player. I'm kinda bummed that I couldn't play this completely, it could have turned out to be quite a nice game, but with these flaws it's sadly not too enjoyable.

Viva La Revolution! by WilhelmStein 2020-04-22T09:11:52Z

What a nice game. Had a blast playing it, requiring careful decision making and balancing of different resources. I played three times, took me the first two playthroughs to really understand what was going on. Then in the last playthrough, I managed to fill up both bars completely and also had a lot of food and people, however the "Star" bar ticked down faster than I though it would! I really thought I had that one in the bag, but it got so close and I didn't have any people with me who I could have executed for the Star resource. :/ So, so close! I'll probably play again.

Flare by emmyoop 2020-05-03T07:30:15Z

Fun game! Very interesting and cool concept, was a lot of fun to figure out (took me a while in the first level until I understood, but after I did it was great and the other levels went quite smoothly). Sadly, I couldn't continue at some point where the flare got stuck at the edge of a wall after a perspective switch:

flare.png

As others have said, it was weird having to press Space to switch to the other controls. You should have either let us control the flare at the same time without switching, or have the controls mapped to the same buttons (then a switch would have made sense).

I also have to agree with the others that depth was difficult at times, however I don't think it was too bad, because the light given off by the flare helped with the perception (clever use of the light!). I imagine this would be extremely fun to play with another player over the internet, such that you can't see the other person's screen and they'd have to guide you at times.

Great entry!

apples by Space Nomad 2020-04-24T13:34:51Z

Nice little game. Loved the fact that you couldn't jump when holding something. Made it all the way through and had fun playing it! screen.png

Bosskeeper by YellowKamel 2020-04-22T08:39:34Z

I love the graphics and the sound effects! I also really enjoyed that you put the story into the game, and the main screen building up with the sunrise was just wow. A minor nitpick on the story at the beginning: I was expecting a single tap of space to skip to the end of the current text, instead of directly to the next one (when the current one isn't even shown completely). (On another note: why do I need to progress the story with my keyboard instead of my mouse, when the game itself is played with the mouse?) Also, I had a problem with the game crashing sometimes when I fail :( And once I found the hero spawning in the wall, unable to move! Hah, easy win for me.

The design though is quite cool, the concept is interesting, new, and fun! Good job overall, despite the few minor problems very enjoyable :)

Orb Defender by Hej_Medister 2020-04-24T13:56:50Z

Simple gameplay, but the variety of weapons was quite fun! Also very difficult in my opinion, only made it to level 6. My favorite weapon by far was the missile launcher, love it when things go boom :)

The Last Dragon by Lisichka 2020-04-23T13:09:03Z

I liked the graphics and story intro (even though the text speed at some places was rather weird - sometimes too slow sometimes too fast). Gameplay wise, the dragon impulse was a nice addition to the platformer genre, I enjoyed how you put the controls into the level. What got me a bit frustrated was this part: freezeball.png I did not understand how this worked at first because it wasn't explained anywhere. Took me several minutes to know what I need to do, and only then I found this out by accident.

Also, I liked the fact that you put secrets into the level (the collectible items), but the fact that you can pick them up using the dragon impulse was a bit weird, because I picked up one of the hidden ones without even noticing it. Would have been more fun if you had to collect them with the character, but they would disappear with the dragon impulse! (Which I actually thought they did at first) That would have been a fun challenge. :)

Apart from my few small nitpicks, I think this was a very well made entry. Nice job!

Collect The Cores by TrogoQ 2020-04-24T13:49:03Z

This game is quite difficult! I had my most problems with the blue one in the bottom right, which is guarded by the two sets of spikes.

I enjoyed it though.

Keep the memory Alive by Ninsky 2020-04-24T14:56:53Z

The idea is nice, but it's very difficult to keep the memory alive! At least for me it was. Nice graphics and sweet background music though. :) Good entry!

Bunnyguard by Dionyss 2020-04-23T12:41:10Z

I guess the mechanic could be fun, however the camera moved extremely fast to the right so that I couldn't see any of my bunnies after about 1 second. Seeing as you said you developed in "very little" time, I'm assuming you didn't have the full 72 hours at your disposal! So not too bad anyway :)

Aphotic Aquatic by qqcs 2020-04-23T12:35:35Z

Visually very nice looking game. Also the gameplay is super fun, but at the end it becomes really stressful! (Not in a bad way though, enjoyed it thoroughly) Nice entry :)

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Fighter Flight Sim by chunkybrewster 2018-04-24T18:11:57Z

Definitely a very interesting idea, however a bit strange. :P I felt like it lacked a bit of gameplay, as I didn't see a real "point" in playing. It didn't feel challenging enough.

Good job on the visual and audio though, however the "robot arm" felt a bit out of place in the otherwise quite realistic setting.

M3 DEFENSE by rplnt 2018-05-08T17:23:51Z

Woo, I made it! Just barely though, two of the bowling balls got through in the last wave! Score of 127, not sure if that's good or not.

Anyway, this is a really nice idea. The match-3 mechanics add a whole new layer of tactical depth to the tower defense genre which is surprisingly fun. Good job! :)

Tales from Avanor by theviraldragon 2018-04-24T17:36:39Z

It was a shame that I wasn't able to get an overview of how many workers I have. Some music and sounds would have also spiced up the experience, as others already pointed out. Other than that, really enjoyed the game. Great job!

Succulent Drive USA by uvwar 2018-04-23T08:00:30Z

I saw your blog post and was intrigued by driving a succulent, therefore I tried your game first! The idea of driving around an environment and growing yourself to then plant yourself somewhere is kinda nice, however I feel like the game lacked a little bit. It simply got kind of repetitive, even though I would have liked to know what happens when you pot all succulents. :D You did a great job on the graphics, I really liked the appearance of the rocks, the pillars and the succulent. Keep it up!

SKYWOOOD PIER by designernap 2018-04-29T18:19:07Z

Hey there. Your game has such an amazing mood and feel, that I really enjoyed playing it despite the lack of actual gameplay. For that to work, you had to put in a lot of time into the graphics and the music and all of that, and I think you did great! I wish you would have tried to work on something that is more a game than simply a pleasant experience, because it would no doubt stand out from the masses. But the time was probably the most constraining factor there, I guess. :D Especially nice was the "interactive" (for lack of a better word) menu screen and transition to the credits section, really liked that! Anyway, overall a nice entry and I enjoyed playing through the whole thing. Good work. :)

Rythm is Lava by egordorichev 2018-04-23T10:47:33Z

Nice game, well done! I feel like there was a lot going on at once which made the game extremely hard to follow and that subtracted a bit from the fun. Most of the time I was just running and jumping around, hoping I wouldn't hit one of those lava cubes. The concept of several characters made it definitely more interesting, but it is at the same time what made the game very difficult. The graphics and audio design was really nice though and it was a complete and nice experience overall. :)

Pair's Lair by beta 2018-05-10T15:29:58Z

Really nice, short game. :D I liked the difficulty of the player character having some inertia, as that is what made the game most interesting! Trying to get the timing right to hit those enemies was enough of a challenge for me to play a second and even a third time. :) Great job!

Super Billiard Chalk by Remi Gourrierec 2018-04-23T11:20:08Z

Hey there. :) Link to Windows executable leads to a 404, so I played the web version. Took me a while to figure out what to do and how to play, but at some point I understood how to progress to the next level. In level 4 however, I was completely stuck and had no clue what I needed to do. :( The graphics are nice, so is the gameplay. Combining platformer with a pool game is also a nice idea which fits the theme really well. Overall, good entry, even though I wish I could have gotten past level 4. :P

Dungeon of High School romance by Toulou 2018-04-24T18:49:20Z

Easy art lover win \o/

Really nice game, thoroughly enjoyed both the gameplay and the graphics. :) +1 for Humor!

Deadication by bcvery1 2018-04-24T16:46:46Z

Interesting concept with a nice twist. Great idea to make you play as a zombie and farm humans, like humans do with animals. Definitely very political and food for thought. :D I agree with the others that a tutorial would have been nice, however it was okay as it was quite easy to work out how everything works. :)

mechROMANCER : a top down shooter dating sim about relationships by Useless 2018-04-23T10:18:00Z

Nice humor! Made the whole game really enjoyable. The only thing frustrating was really the character freezing while the question came up. It was impossible to read the questions and the answer choices fast enough to survive, even though I read the monologue the whole time. :P Anyway, solid entry, lots of fun!

BBall by carlosvVk 2018-05-08T17:06:07Z

Hey there. :) Though minimalistic in style and execution, I think the game plays very well! The gameplay is a nice mix of two genres, and is very easy to pick up, but hard to master! The little subtleties like using the recoil of the gunshot to save the character really make it fun to try and get better at it. :D I enjoyed playing it a lot, especially after I figured out what the different colors on the boxes mean and how the character responds to the gun and the paddle. A small thing that bothered me was the hitbox of the character. Had it been more accurate, it would have been easier to predict the movement. The character very often hit one of those moving obstacles when I wasn't expecting it.

I liked playing it though, I think a polished version could be **insanely** fun.

BBall by carlosvVk 2018-05-10T13:47:02Z

The collision box already felt a lot better, the character colliding with the obstacles wasn't as unpredictable anymore. :D Still had some glitching though when the character "should" miss the paddle, but somehow moving into it made the character glitch onto the paddle again.

Dodge The Bullet by Apace 2018-04-24T20:46:42Z

Hey everyone!

Thanks to all of you for the kind words. It really means a lot to me to receive this much positive feedback. I also enjoyed trying out all of your creations, so check your comments for a review of mine if you haven't already!

I thought it was a really minor issue, but the stuttering that happened sometimes at the end of animations really annoyed me and seemingly a lot of you as well. So I put up a fix! :)

Whether or not to zoom out to show all bullets in a level from the beginning was a choice I considered, but since it made the level look really empty if zoomed out that far (you have to imagine that because all bullets are aligned with the axes of the walkable space, the corners of the screen would be completely blank) I decided against it. I also thought it was fine to let the player "think on their feet" a bit, as the game does not punish death a lot (you do not get set back far, or lose any points).

Anyway, I really enjoyed all your feedback and suggestions. :)

Cheers!

Soccer Battle Royale by ditzel 2018-04-23T10:34:16Z

I had a few problems running it on my machine, as it was really laggy, especially as soon as the AI players reached the middle of the field. It ran at about 3 FPS. But you are not to blame, as my laptop is quite old already and there's not a lot of time for optimization during LD. :D However, I really liked the idea and concept, as well as the graphics. :)

WARtermelon by MaiMai 2018-04-23T09:08:20Z

Cute graphics, fits the theme of the game really well. :) Had fun playing, however those dirty ratberries were just too fast for me. :( I did not do very well, my best was something like a minute and a half. :D I feel like the controls could use a little more polishing, often enough I wasn't able to plant a melon or create a tower (probably started pressing shift too early or something?).

Overall a really nice entry, some sound would have been great to round off the experience, but it's still a fun game. :)

It's Always Your Turn by Yorsh 2018-04-24T19:01:15Z

While I also reaaaally like the idea here, I still feel (like the others), that something gameplay-wise is missing. However it's fair to say that this is probably due to lack of time. The game you made showcases the basic idea really well, and with stuff like synergies between the creatures, or spells to buff up your creatures, this could really become an awesome awesome game.

Apart from the gameplay, I really liked the design of the game. The graphics looked good and consistent and the animations were smooth. Great job!

Really nice entry with an awesome idea, well done! :)

Ten1Z1 by Lumous 2018-04-23T08:13:29Z

Nice looking game and quite fun to play! However I didn't know what I'm gaining from hitting zombies - sure, I get zombie points on the scoreboard, but how does that help me win? Or rather - why would it be more difficult if I don't kill the zombies? Had quite fun playing though, and the "surprise" for winning a set is also quite nice. :D Good job overall!

Karaoke Ninja by GastricSparrow 2018-04-23T10:57:36Z

Microphone input to control the game. Not bad! Neat idea and concept. A polished version is something I would definitely love to check out!

Card Cave Adventures by Swen 2018-04-24T15:56:32Z

Nice concept! I really liked the idea of your game. The biggest flaw, in my opinion, was the card RNG (as others have pointed out). Too many times I was stuck at the top area of level 5, not getting any cards to move right but instead having lots of left movements in my hand. Shuffling is possible, of course, but even that gets frustrating when you keep shuffling until you get one right movement, and then have to shuffle again... I feel like this could be improved without messing with the RNG by introducing some kind of discard mechanic, for example being able to discard 1 card per stamina point. That way I could use a right 2 card while discarding one of those useless left movements.

Graphics-wise, the game was enjoyable. The simple graphics were enough to get the mind going and interpret the enemies and the surroundings. The screen transition when dying was a blast as well. I also liked the music and the sound effects, they complemented the game's art style really well.

Roguespector by Yanek 2018-04-23T09:49:08Z

I really liked the game! It was a lot of fun thinking about what to do each turn and then seeing your plans work out! I sadly hit a few bugs during the game, because of which I needed to reload the page (i.e. hitting restart just caused me to lose the game with 0 score). A really nice experience though, I liked the graphics and the sound seemed to fit the graphics quite nice. :) Great work!

Skirmixer by DraperDanMan 2018-04-23T08:36:56Z

Really liked the game, especially the concept! It's a lot of fun to play, I played for much longer than I wanted to at first. :D Plays a little bit choppy though, but that's because of the platform used here, I assume. Overall an innovative and fun entry :)

Alchemist Adventure by Keppu 2018-04-23T11:11:11Z

Sweet game. :) I like the concept and the graphics. The music is really nice as well. Sadly I did not get very far, and after several times of starting from the beginning, I became a bit too frustrated to continue playing. But I guess that's the nature of roguelikes, haha. :D Very solid and well polished entry. Great job!

Tale of Visions by SniperA 2018-04-24T18:05:07Z

As others have already pointed out, it did not feel quite as polished. The walk animation, for example, was very jumpy, and other minor things, like the gun shot sounding before the gun was held up at the target, etc. But the good thing is, that all those things are relatively easy to improve upon! You have produced a solid visual novel, with a nice story line full of tension, which was intensified through the music you created. I really wanted to finish the story and get to know the end, and overall liked the experience a lot!

Last Man Driving by Rewzu 2018-05-02T08:30:39Z

Took several tries for me to win, but eventually I did! Really nice work on the game. :) The car driving worked better than I expected and the game was really fun to play. I liked the simple graphics and the sound effects a lot!

Zombie shooter FPS Top view by Tomáš Selmeci 2018-04-24T17:46:42Z

Hey there. Quite interesting idea, well executed how the controls smoothly animate from top-down to first-person perspective. Adds a nice new level of strategy to the game (walking to the side, to get to first-person view and see farther).

As for what to improve, I think the graphics would work better if they were more consistent. You used 3D models with high detail on the weapon and the zombies, but the tent and the trees outside the camp were more in a low-poly style. Having all those be done in the same style would surely improve the overall look for your next project!

Dancemazing by MariosManiatis 2018-04-23T09:01:16Z

I threw away my laptop the first time I encountered the monster. Too scary for me. :D Anyway, next time I was prepared and faced my fears and started dancing. :D I found a switch but I have no clue what it did. I suppose it opened up some way in the maze, but I just couldn't find anything. You did a great job on the graphics and the sounds, it created a nice atmosphere of a mix between a cheerful dancing game and a scary horror game with a lot of tension. :) Very well done!

Blitzingo by spthiel 2018-04-23T10:27:40Z

Nice mash-up of genres. :D I really liked playing it, but it was incredibly hard, even on medium. Maybe I just have gotten unlucky. I agree with @theLudovyc that the game should only pick up speed according to the number of correct numbers you only have, or at the least how many correct numbers it showed you. That way you can rule out someone only having bad luck. :)

Nice entry, good job on using such a low amount of resources (assets) to create a playable and fun game.

Card 'Em Up by stderr 2018-04-24T18:21:27Z

Really good looking game you got there! Thoroughly enjoyed the visuals and also the sound effects. :) Gameplay wise, I think the turn timer kind of defeated the purpose of it being a turn-based game. It still felt a lot like a bullet hell action game. This is not necessarily bad though, as it's just one version of combining the two themes! Other than that, I think the UI could use some improvement, because having to look down at the rather small display of cards and then up again at the ship to direct the movement cost quite a lot of time and effort which could have been solved better.

It really was fun to play though, so good job on creating such a fun and nice looking experience. :)

Gobbie's bad day by Procrastinaaaa 2018-04-24T18:27:15Z

Hey there. So, while there isn't a lot of gameplay going on here, I still like the direction the game was going. The visuals are really nice and fun to look at, so really god job on those. For a first game jam it's easy to overscope, especially when it's also your first time working on a team. So I'd say you still did a great job in just getting as far as you could and then posting what you managed to do! I'm sure you'll just improve from hereon out. :) Best of luck!

A journey of the block by TomekS 2018-04-23T08:51:10Z

Really loved the graphics and the sounds and the overall atmosphere! I also really enjoyed figuring out the gameplay, however, I could not get past those conveyor belts. Solid entry, really enjoyed playing it. :)

The Lake Of Horrors by WongKongPhooey 2018-04-23T09:59:01Z

Hey there! Really nice game you created! I dig the pixel art style and the rod physics were truly satisfying and fun to control. I agree that the piranhas could be more of a challenge, but it was not that easy to catch fish either. My best score was 195 by the way (in 3 tries)! :D

Gender Circles by EkkoEkko 2018-04-24T18:34:52Z

Nice! Really dig the hand-drawn art style. Also, nice unusual interpretation of the theme. Made me chuckle a bit, thinking you simply misread "genre" as "gender"! :D The music and sound effects were fitting as well and the gameplay was simple and fun. :)

Great job and solid entry!

5ive 4 me, thr3e 2 u !1 - a turn-based platformer! by alferbayter 2018-05-01T10:56:07Z

I had a lot of fun playing through ALL the levels! I am awesome! :) This game is a great mix of a platformer and a turn-based game. This mash-up makes it not only a game about dexterity, but also a bit of a puzzle game, where I have to figure out where to move and when! It was so much fun! The music was nice and underlined the concept really well, changing whenever it's the enemies turn. :) Graphics-wise, the game is simple and easy to understand. :D

Well done, good job, great game, nice submission! Super fun!

Flappy Blocks by Radical Dog 2018-04-23T11:44:52Z

This. Is. AWESOME! Easily the best LD entry I played so far! Nice story elements, with really funny dialogue. The concept is easy to pick up and huge fun to play. The addictive gameplay is rounded off by nice graphics and music. Really nice entry. Huge amounts of fun. :)

Monster Stew by Aaron Nemoyten 2018-04-23T10:10:20Z

Nice game! The billboarded enemy sprites in the 3d environment looked really nice. I also enjoyed the sound effects. The gameplay was great, each enemy was different and required a different strategy to beat. With some more polish, this has the potential to be really great!

Good job, i liked it a lot. :)

Candy crush your own adventure by Hanra 2018-04-24T16:38:09Z

Hey @Hanra!

Your game was interesting to say the least. I feel like combining CYOA with any other genre in a good way is generally quite hard. You however managed to do it quite well, because you did it in a way where what I do in the other genre actually has an effect on the adventure. I wish you would have played with the concept a bit more, like for example using different items for the match-3 game. For example a speech bubble which would stand for conversation actions, a fist for violence, etc. Something like that.

Anyway, I feel like you did a good job. The graphics and sound effect were cool, but I really thought some ambient music or relevant sound effects (like a knock on the door) would have spiced up the experience. Maybe that's something you could consider adding in your next game or maybe even a post-LD version!

I wasn't quite in the mood for a story, so I let my girlfriend play it in order to get some feel for it. I had to stop her after her second playthrough so I would be able to write this comment. :P I am for sure gonna send her the link, because she really wants to have another go. She said the story was quite good, and really liked the possibility for different endings. (She really wants to get a satisfying, "good", ending). However, she felt there were some passages with too much text and too little options, for example the diary of the professor.

Overall, a really nice game which is quite enjoyable for those who love a good story. :)

Type n' Jump by Richard N Silva 2018-05-08T17:36:32Z

Awesome game. :) I really enjoyed the nice combo. Honestly, there's nothing I can add to the positive feedback that's been left here already, and even less to add to the negative. Great job!

Flappy Soccer by Teo SK 2018-04-29T18:04:54Z

Nice work! I enjoyed the game quite a bit, found myself playing longer than I had planned to try and get a better score (managed to get 7 only...) I agree with others that the startup screen is a bit weird, however I think the sounds were nice. The graphics were okay, not awesomely pretty, but not the worst I've seen either.

Your game is quite a nice entry, with some enjoyable and addictive gameplay. :) Good work!

Bubblin' Cauldron by Tamino Laub 2018-04-29T18:40:28Z

I really enjoyed the gameplay here! The mechanics are nice and well thought-out: scavenging in-between waves (or sometimes even in waves when needed!) and then defending the cauldron was fun and entertaining. It even led to a very clutch moment where I was able to just barely mix a potion to save my cauldron.

While generally fun, I too felt the frustration others have mentioned. The game gets hard a bit too quick, this is mostly due to the speed at which I am able to look for and find ingredients. Also, while I'm not quite sure, I was mainly looking for the ingredient that freezes (I think it's the herb?) and the ones that do damage (chili, sting). The others seemed kind of useless to me, quite possibly because I did not figure out what they did. So walking around seeing all those other ingredients while not finding the one you're looking for was a bit frustrating as well.

The graphics were really sweet and the music was nice and worked together to create a nice feel for the game. :)

I definitely liked the game a lot and a nice post-LD version with some more balanced gameplay is for sure something I would enjoy playing more!

The Bugbear Tavern by Carter Andrews 2018-05-01T10:41:35Z

The concept here is great. I really like the idea of having to figure out which potion the customers need and then figuring out the required ingredients. However, I feel the execution fell a little bit short. The game was, simply put, too easy. There were three very general potions, so figuring out which one is needed wasn't hard. You could have improved this by either creating more potions with more specific effects (like improving accuracy, helping memory, and providing courage for the examples provided) or by making the needs of the customers more obscure. Also, I felt like giving the whole thing a time-limit (like an evening at the tavern), and then scoring the player on how many customers they were able to provide with the right potion, would be really nice.

Anyhow, this is a really nice concept with nice and generally fun gameplay which has a lot of potential. If you feel even a bit like working on this idea again, I certainly recommend to do so! It will turn into something great with a bit of work. :)
