What a nice game. I enjoyed the atmosphere which was created by the music. The sound design was superb. Regarding the graphics: this is how all minimalistic games should be. You used cubes, mainly, but they were complemented by nice particle effects and animations wherever possible. Just pretty.
I especially like what you did with the ending.
Edit: one minor flaw I think the game has is the difficulty. To me, it seemed quite easy collecting all the powers, I think I encountered only 3 evil shadows? At the end, when moving in to summon the secret power, I really enjoyed the difficulty. In my opinion, that's how the game should have been the whole time. ;)
very well....i love the this ground effect...
is there a way to play game without downloading it?
Simple but beautiful game. I loved the ground effect as well, and the gameplay is clear and to the point. Audio is nicely put together, matching the aesthetic of the visuals perfectly.
@webus unfortunately not I'm afraid. The game wouldn't work well if it ran in a browser.
Great minimal aesthetic, loved the effects, and the ground is amazing! Really enjoyed the mood.
I liked this one a lot, the abilities are kinda hard to use but the aesthetics and effects where so clean and beatuiful. Great job! :D
Great job with this, I love games that give you power ups as you go along. The cold open sets the mood well. The game is over pretty quickly, but I had fun using the powers as I went along. I do appreciate the game over being a quick restart. Very nice effects and sound, I like how each ability was color coded. I would have liked to use the scroll wheel to go through the abilities, I felt like I would have to use them quickly if the game had more enemies. Excellent work!
I have to say the shades themselves make a surprisingly menacing enemy. A couple of times I found myself jumping when the appeared. I also liked the different power-ups, which combined nicely with the unreliable attack mechanism (are you sure you can hit with the throw? is there another cube nearby or will you be defenseless?). Kind of scratched that stealth game itch where you have to plan for the next encounter etc.
I liked it, very relaxing, good design and sound :)
I'm in love with your game <3 The atmosphere, the music, the gameplay, the graphics... I LOVE EVERYTHING !!
Beautiful game, fun and easy, but power switch is a bit hard since you already have WASD and the mouse to manage. I just kept my mouse in the same direction and manouvered myself to hit the dark cubes. Great otherwise!
Nice game! I loved the aesthetics.
Wow, what a great game, I seldom get immersed in LD entries on the level that I did on Neon Void, the atmosphere was excellent, the music worked great to set the right mood, and the graphics, although simple, worked very well with the overall theme. I managed to get to the end and finish the game, and having a start and end is also seldom seen in LD games, so lots of kudos for that! I might be of the opinion that the game was a wee bit easy to complete, but I do think this is a necessity for LD games, if you make them to hard it tends to make people loose interest to soon to really play it through (something that has be felled my crew on several occasions) so I won't keep that against you! Great job!
I really enjoyed my play through. Great music and satisfying sound effects (even the prism 'dying' sounded nice). I like the cool-down based skills you've implemented (stealth sprinting was fun :D). Great game for the jam!
This better win one of the categories.
Wow! Amazing horror game!
I love the simplicity and the art, sound, and coding were all superb!
Beautiful graphics and soundtrack, definitely worth playing.
This game looks amazing and has a great atmosphere to it. The abilities look cool to use, even the death animation is cool. The music and sounds fit really well too.
I did wish the controls were slightly different. Having to select an ability and then press space felt like an extra step, why not just have them activate on the initial keypress? I also found myself always wanting to throw blocks with a click instead of with spacebar. Even still though, the game felt awesome to play.
5/5. Super polished from start to finish.
Well done, really stylish and minimilistic without feeling simple. I could have used a little more cues to indicate movement when there were no cubes on the screen it was just a gray void. But overall a very chill, stylish little game. I like it!
That was a fun little game, really well polished. well explained tutorials, nice abilities and cool looking graphics. good job. Oh and the audio was really good too
What a awesome entry! The choice of using minimalist graphics and polish them so well was so well done here! The mechanics were nice, the controls were simple to understand and the game had a nice custom progression. Congratulations and keep making games! :)
LOVED this one!! The art was simple but extremely effective. The dynamic music worked fantastically with the increasing set of skills you acquire, and it fit the theme of starting from nothing very well. I thought the controls were a little funky at first (spacebar+mouse combo being used in all the abilities), I think focusing on the mouse for all basic actions instead of the spacebar could help make the game feel more "familiar" - selecting abilities with the wheel and activating them with the main mouse button, or making each ability cast instantly on pressing a number key, for instance. Minor gripes aside, this is definitely one of my favorites!
Very nice game.
Loved how the ground cubes raised up around your character. The music and mood was great and really made for a relaxing play experience. The minimalist graphics style suited the game very well and looked awesome. The only thing I can think of is that I would have like the cubes I picked up to connect to the nearest side so I could shoot in more than one direction.
Great entry. Good job!
Great game, but I think the controls could be tweaked a bit. Rather than having the 'shoot' and 'trigger powerup' both be the same button, shooting would probably be better with left mouse. Having mouse wheel scroll the active powerup could be a good change too. All that said, I really enjoyed the game, the visuals were great, the special effects were flashy and pretty, the powerups were well thought through, and the game had a real cohesive style to it. Really great work overall!
Fantastic game with a great mood - great job on pulling that off! Sometimes I thought the enemies were a little harsh when they spawed right ahead of the direction you were going while speeding towards you, but the powerups were fun and the game was easy to learn. I felt pretty satisfied upon completion, great job!
@realitycheck moving around the mouse aimed the direction the cubes fire in. Sorry if you were not able to experience that part of the game properly.Thank you for the kind words aswell:).
The game looks great, very minimalistic but super polished and well put together. Everything fits from graphics to audio, the mood of the game was fantastic.
I really liked the end animation, it was the icing on the cake!
Very atmospheric game, the various abilities are interesting, and give you a sense of progression as you play. The controls are tight and intuitive. Its very fun, and very polished.
5/5 for everything. One of the best games I played in this jam so far. I thought why there are so many abilities in the game? And then at the end, I ended up using everything still took me a few attempts. Had a lot of fun. Music, Sound FX, Graphics, trail animations, little dots that guide you towards the ability and then they get bigger as you close in. Story narrative simple and yet fun.
There's always a couple games from a jam you remember post-jam and this is one of 'em! The team did great work on this and all aspects feel extremely polished.
As a programmer I'm curious about how you were fading all the music! That was so well done!
@maxymax hey fellow programmer! It was possible to have the music build and fade because each additional layer, when you get each ability, was a separate music track. At the start of the game they are all playing simultaneously but are muted. And whenever the player gets an ability the next track is unmuted and it is synced with all the others because it has been playing in sync since the start! Glad you enjoyed the game hopefully that made sense:p. Also, a good ole IEnumerator Lerp for the fading at the end.
Please don't disable the unity default resolution/input dialog box when making a game using wasd for control, because this window allows people to change wasd to something useable in non-english keyboard.
Otherwise, this entry is very good. Music & sounds are awesome. The art is a example of minimalist done right. And the gameplay is fluid. Good job!
A really beautiful and well made game. Really well done.
@thetatautau Sorry that you weren't able to configure everything! We're not sure why the configuration screen was skipped. The newest version of Unity may have ticked it off by default. In future versions of the game we will definitely add the ability to edit controls and graphics settings. Thanks for the advice! It means a lot.
Nice stuffs you have in your game.
Very well done on the game. You did an incredible job creating the atmosphere. It was relaxing to play and I enjoyed the different skills. It would have been nice to be able to throw using the mouse and if each skill had a different use key instead of swapping the skill and using space for all of them. Overall, I really enjoyed the game, great work.
"Impressive game, Very cool concepts. I left wishing that there is more. Had a lot of fun "
Well done guys, simple but beatiful!
Very good game. Nothing to add. Continue the good job :-)
Superb minimalist graphics with a soundscape quite suitable for an innovative and successful game. What else ?
Really beautiful and enjoyable game. I love the effect for the world coming in/out at the edges of your perception. One suggestion: could you make it possible to select powers using the scroll wheel?
First of all the art is amazing. Second of all the music is amazing. 3rd of all the concept is amazing. I think the one big flaw of the game is the control scheme. I didn't really want to switch between all the powers due to how far I had to stretch my hand to hit some of them.
Also really like the ending. I see what you did there.
Oh wow, this is impressive! Really well done!
Switching between controls was a little awkward, probably would have been easier if each number immediately triggered the action, but I made it work.
But yeah nice! I think the only thing this left me feeling is that all these nice visual effects and the whole vibe of it would have been great in a game with more substance behind it. But obviously it's tricky to get that going in a game jam :P
Also if this was a compo game I would totally be looking at the source code to see how the visual effects were done!
The most engaging thing about this game wasn't just the atmospheric and art, I actually liked the powers the most. They weren't just "here's 50% blast radius" or something. Each color was VERY unique and had their own playstyle tied to them. I didn't mind having to stretch my finger, I thought it added a lot to the execution ceiling. It was very fun once you got all the powers, it kinda reminded me of the Torchlight mage where you're constantly jumping around casting a bunch of different spells on your toolbar. Very engaging gameplay with a terrifying 1-shot enemy.
Really well made and polish game, I love it! The music is very relaxing and i like the atmosphere. Nice work on the art, there are great FX. The game isn't very difficult but I think it's a good choice: I was able to reach the end :) and dying isn't frustrating. Good job!
Great game, looks and feels really good. It's relaxing and fun to play, love that you added the fog, and the minimalistic graphics work pretty well!
Hey, your game is really beautiful. How did you do the effect with all the lights when you die? Was this made in Unity?
@kevin-ray It was made in Unity! So the lights effect when you die is a particle effect that spits out a bunch of long images. I made six colored glowing strips that I imported into Unity as images. The particle effect emits a bunch of these images really fast, and instead of making them fly out I just made the particles get bigger over time, then shrink down right before disappearing. I hope that helps! If you have anymore questions you can just @ me and I'll make sure to help you out!
A great entry !
I really liked the minimalist graphics and the general mood
I quite enjoyed the gane, i can't really find any downsides to be honest.
The only thing i could think of is that it was slightly underwhelming but when you die you just try again. If there was a bit more content with using all of the powers with some better controls (maybe using the mouse and shift/ctrl to decide which ability is used).
But otherwise, really good game I am looking forward to what you will be making in the future ;D
This is so well made and completed! The throwing mechanic is so satisfying, and the effects are beautiful, especially when you died and the cube is like exploded. It is too short though, and I kinda hope there are more kind of enemies with different behaviors, like they can also stealth like the green power up. I'm looking forward for future update (if there is any). Great work!
Hey there, you made a really nice game, audio hit the relaxed atmosphere pretty well, and sounds made shooting much more alive. I had a lot of fun. Graphics were simple but fitting, as a VFX designer myself, I can see that you didnt go for anything complex, but for what works with the mood of the game, and it was a correct move.
I loved the enemies, they just go so well for this game, that slow rotation allows the player to find a cube or to escape the enemy by manouvring, my respect on that.
The map generation is a seperate talk. That is what makes this game really stand out like a lot. Its very unique and extremely statisfying! If the game is bad I dont go falttering for karma, unlike some people, but this design of the world truly deserves a high rating from me!
Only problem with this game is that enemies dont really get harder so you collect the abilites but never get to use them in a fight, thats what I didnt like, but the game was meant to be relaxing I assume, and it had those chill vibes.
Overall there wasnt anything wrong with the game apart from length. You can tell from it was fun to play and even after death you dont mind going back, to collect an ability, a lot of people quit the game after death, but you nailed it. Good Job.
Our game is similar in concept where you get abilities as you go, while you are in darkness until you get the light, and it has very nice particles made by me. After you get the abilities you need to kill more enemies to geth crystals from them and improve (in order to fight the boss and learn the story) If you want you can check it out, Im sure you will like it, the VFX I made this time fit very well. We started rating a bit late so we need 3 more people to rate the game!
Thank you for putting your time into this game, from lots of crap games, actually well made games let me enjoy the rating process!
The experience of the game was quite swell. The graphics and vfx, were pristine. They impressed me into this world of cube, and I loved every part of the atmosphere and mood.
Negatives; -No varying difficulty, -Difficult controls -no real use of abilities -short and wish there were more level design.
This was a very pretty entry with an interesting take on the theme. The tension when an enemy appeared on screen really made the pickups you got feel like a relief :P Good job. :)
So so pretty, love the tension and the mood.
