I see this as an innovative take on the Idle clicker genre. Sadly it's unfinished. Still great concept.
A few super upgraded Lasers can make endless endless.
Great game, had me playing for a long time.
Great graphics, controls and overall feel.
@TheMonsterFromTheDeep Yes, a bulldozer feature is badly needed to make gameplay more enjoyable, specially at the beggining.
Thanks everyone for playing and rating!
Excellent graphics, idea, mood and music. Great execution. The game was fun, sadly the batteries where very frustrating to handle and the puzzle that required three of them was practically unsolvable because of the finicky batteries.
Still almost a 5/5 from me. I think you should opt out of the humor category so it doesn't affect your score, as the game doesn't have anything do with humor.
I love how Unity and company are re-creating what kids in the 80's experienced with home computers and Basic interpreters.
The game is pretty well made, the controls are inverted (y-axis) but it's not a big deal. Good graphics, good sound, fun gameplay. Very polished feel in general.
You have a future kid, please keep coming back to Ludum Dare. I'm impressed and want to see you evolution.
This is reaaally good. I like these kind of games. One minor detail: the background is killing my eyes, it should be mostly black. But the gameplay is very good, this one had me playing a long time.
5/5 from me.
Gets hard quickly! One of the most unique games I tried this LD so far.
Concept is good, and the ammount of content surprising, specially considering it's the developer's first Ludum Dare, the developer even managed to get a complete tutorial into the game.
The game is fun, it takes a short time to learn the mechanics.
Tip for the players: don't grow too fast or you won't be able to keep up with the growing population.
What's missing is a game ending condition I think, I was like -1000000 in money and every citizen hated me and still didn't lose. The music was a little annoying and there was no mute button.
Overall great entry! Please keep coming back to Ludum Dare.
I didn't get it. Where's the theme? Also, those priority and expendable numbers, what do they mean?
Please don't upload installers. Game Maker allow you to export a simple .zip file. I won't install it. Maybe I'll download the source and try it that way.
*Update: so I downloaded the project and ran it through Game Maker. Glad I'm did. The game is very well done, the controls and movement feel very polished, the graphics and sound are good. Solid entry. Really fun to play game. Also there's many levels with different mechanics all introduced progressively in the right order and time.*
@pennycook [Purrrrrrrrr]
@echo-team Cattle Royale was in fact the original name of the project, as you can see in our repository, but as we didn't had the time to also put in cattles, we decided to shorten it to just Cat Royale.
@lucas-ferrantelli Thanks for trying the game! Are you related to the legendary Pietro Ferrantelli? I'll try your game later today, it looks good from the screenshots already.
I still don't know why do I like space trade games so much. Nice game, great execution.
Gets wild pretty fast. Probably the most addicting one I played so far this LD. Great music, graphics, very polished. 5/5 from me.
Best one I tried so far (I tried 3). 4/5 from me. *Edit: I now played many more LD games, and this is still the best one.*
Very nice little moody game. Great sound, graphics, mood, but the gameplay was too much on the simple side. Still a good rating from me.
404 Not found: We couldn't find your page (with a frog logo) :(
I like the trippy game over effect. 5/5 because of that. Good music too.
You really nailed that "Mirror's Edge" feel.
Great entry! I really enjoyed playing it, maybe the moving rate of the line is a little slow, but it wasn't too annoying either. The gameplay, graphics and sound were solid and created a pretty good mood.
I little on the easy side as the crabs came always from the same places. Very impressive that you made this all by yourself in pure JS, that definitely means extra points from me. I also like that while simple, the graphics, sound and UI captured the look of old classic Win 3.11 games very well. Solid entry.
I tried the game on a real device, and it crashed randomly, and locked the entire device until I restarted it (maybe there's some memory leaks or something like that).
IMG_20181206_090901.jpg
So I had to complete in with the emulator. And I'm glad I did:
- The gameplay is very engaging and fun, the pacing is great, everything feels polished and balanced. - The level design is excellent, the always going down mechanic was really enjoyable and gave the game a very good flow, it never felt frustrating or too easy. - The music has a strong Fez vibe, every track is good, and the fact that it is somewhat dynamic depending on the chosen path made it even better. This is one of the factors that made me enjoy the game the most. I'm still listening to the credits song right now as I'm writing this. - The graphics look exactly like these of any good GBA game. Perfectly done.
This game really feels like a GBA game, and a good one. 5/5 from me in every category. I hope you win the Jam.
IMG_20181206_092022.jpg
Very well made. And made with Spring! I wish I could do anything with this engine, I do really like it. Never thought that anything like this could be done with it.
It gets wild after a while. Very fun, made me laugh a lot. Great attention to detail and very fun.
Very fun, the music is not good, but I didn't minded the simple graphics as the gameplay was really engaging. Had me playing for a while. Very well balanced too.
Good music and the game feels polished, but it's very fast, I could not read any of the descriptions, and didn't understand what the percentages mean.
How does the game ends? I find it impossible to get past 20 sheep. Great game 4.5/5 from me!
Great level and game design. My first 5/5 rating this LD.
I'll check your non-jam games too, they look great!
@badram I do really like seeing people finding those exploits and trying the game more in-depth than usual, thanks for playing! I'll definitely going to play your game as well.
@saucygames Thanks for playing! The game was made with Unity tilemaps, just not in the traditional totally tile-based way. With more time I probably wouldn't made it this way, and would have used tiles directly for more of the environment. Check my timelapse: https://youtu.be/HU-O95CI7FU?t=315
Also: your games look and seem to feel great! I'll definitely play them.
The particle effects, graphics, sound design and fine balance all contributed to a great and very polished game feel. My first 5/5 this LD.
Very fun, but it's lacking badly some cooldown indicators, that will bump the enjoyment by 10x. Some balance tips: armaggeddon and "souls gained per kill" are all you need, max out these and the game is a breeze.
This is the first one I tried this LD, and it's great. If this will be the level of the entries, the competition will be harder than ever.
I also want to try the finished version!
Super fun, and super consistent in style, the music adds a lot too. You can infinitely extend this game, it's sort of like "Doodle God" but even more fun. 5/5 from me, only complain is that the background made my eyes hurt.
It's that the Unix operating system? Nice game.
I can't see anything and the F key doesn't do anything either. :( sorry I really wanted to play as the game is similar in concept to mine. I won't rate for now, maybe you can help me. Captura.PNG
I made a similar, but significantly worse in terms of gameplay, game for another jam https://rootstudio.itch.io/hive-mind. I really like RTS with macro focused controls, almost 5/5 from me, it was just missing some sound and a way to know if you're under attack, but I perfectly understand how hard is to make an RTS for a jam. Great job.
This is brilliant.
Great graphics. You should also upload the jam version so we can more fairly rate your game.
@123seven3 Thanks for playing, both levels are finished actually, but the second one is tricky and needs more hints. I'll fix those things after the jam.
@scott-redrup Yes there are only 2 levels :(
@gustavo-christino Wow that's a very deep analysis for such a short game, I wasn't expecting it. Thank you very much for trying it, we really appreciate it.
Art style is great, and the game is pretty fun.
Just out of curiosity, I really want to know what does the "Smooth controls" option do, as both options feel the same to me.
Loved the music and art.
The gameplay is basically the final boss of a very hard game right from the start. The controls were very innovative actually.
I wasn't able to kill the boss in like 30 tries. Still, 4/5 from me.
Extra points from me for making a C64 game. That also instantly gave it great mood, aesthetics and sound. The gameplay was also very solid.
Only thing missing was some rad SID music.
The animation is excellent and also the sound and mood.
I just walked and walked until the game ended, while I have no problems with walking simulators, the picking up things mechanic was a little confusing, as it hints at it being useful but really isn't. But I really liked the game.
5/5 brilliant. Very trippy. The game got me hooked until the end.
Super polished.
I specially loved the weird music style. Is there any place where I can hear more from you?
Other people already pointed up everything about the game. Except for these: - In the web version, if the game tab loses focus the game pauses. So you have to necessarily keep it active while you wait for the day to end. - I love that you have a "Game designer assistant" in your credits.
Amazing that you put this together so fast. Its quirky but it works and is easy to understand.
Audio and game feel are amazing. Nice take on the theme too.
A bit too hard in the way you executed it but the idea is pretty good. I think you should need it a lot slower overall or at least to progressively scale the speed more slowly.
The other problem I saw is that you can't really never know if you should discard any bag.
Thanks for translating and for making it Web!
This has to win in humor.
Is it even possible to win? Incredible concept, execution, sound, gameplay, graphics. 5/5.
Felt like you had the game idea before the jam and tried to fit in the theme somehow after it started. Still excellently done, very fun and polished.
Reminded me a bit of Dear Esther because of the mood and storytelling. Can you tell us the true ending? And about the chest.
Interesting, I found it really fun, and player until the color puzzle, which was impossible for me because I'm color blind.
We had kind of the same concept in our games, but I liked your execution much more. Very well done, the mood was perfect.
Did you also implement the looping with teleports?
Only needed a way to end the game, everything else worked perfectly.
Space bar destroyer game. Pretty fun.
Nice, I actually like these jam style super rough graphics, and your music and sound effects are pretty good in the more traditional way.
That you didn't even consider the theme doesn't matter, just keep making games and publishing them no matter how small or simple they are and you'll only get better and better. If you get tired of a project it is better to cut out all of the pending features, add a menu with a "Play" buton and publish it in its current state than to leave it in your hard drive to die. You'll be thanking yourself some years from now if you take that approach.
3kliksphilip here made a very short and fascinating series on the topic: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRDhcp_8c7uAPQfE6WMBo7PCNlkQIOLdO.
Some notes: - Is it better to build and upload your game to itch.io as a zip or even as a single executable instead of an installer. That way the itch app takes care of everything automatically, and it doesn't scare those downloading it directly. - You should really rate some 20 or so games and leave feedback to them before the time runs out, or your game will be buried in the discovery list. You can start with mine ;) - Keep making games, even short and simple ones, and publish them all on itch.io. I'll follow you and play your games if you don't mind. - Never get discouraged by feedback or your Ludum Dare rating. Just keep making games no matter what.
Brilliantly executed.
Nice concept, just needed actual music and a move window a bit more forgiving in my opinion.
Very interesting. I only could across one bug: once when I touched my past self, the screen faded to black after some flickering and stayed black forever.
The visual style, music and sound design are amazing. You'll probably win this LD in some categories.
I also wasn't able to find all the clues. You should post a walkthrough so we can see the ending. I really liked the game.
Nice bug catches @eryn and @celtico (UI and sound), thanks for playing!
@deathray Web version is now available if you want to try it.
@theg yes that happens! :( But I think it would be against the rules to fix that bug now. Thanks for playing for that long anyways.
@johnryanaudio Thanks for playing! Is there any way to watch the stream?
Does it have an ending? Nice start, I liked how the enemies jumped to try to get you.
Super simple, to the point, and fun. Reminded me of the old Clickteam Fusion games both in art style and gameplay.
Very polished and super fun. The animation, music and pacing makes for an amazing game feel. But the theme really didn't fit in. It feels like if the idea came from before the jam almost. Still a great game and a 5/5.
Not related to the theme in the slightest, otherwise 5/5. Graphics, audio, gameplay are super polished.
The graphics, sound and mood are amazing. This may be subjective, but the pacing is a bit slow for me. Still 4/5, I was really immersed in the game.
The visual effects were very nice. And as the other commented said, I would totally play this outside of LD. I didn't mind the combat though, in fact I've found it challenging and fun.
Sound, mood, fun are excellent. Visual effects are good too. Very solid 4.5/5.
First 5/5 in this jam from me. Frustratingly fun. You've nailed that quick and constant die-learn-restart loop that makes games like VVVVVV work.
Our games are similar in concept, and I feel like we even went the same route of trying to make them more about a relaxing exploration experience.
I really liked the retro 3D style, the sound design and atmosphere you achieved.
Great music and atmosphere, and I found the gameplay very original and dynamic. An extended version of this would be perfect for mobile phones.
Very original and surprising. The gameplay is a bit simple but the take on the idea in itself gave me a laugh and navigating through my own computer like this was really fun and something easy to get distracted with for a good amount of time.
As danvil said, some little extra upgrades like TNT would be great.
I'll save this for later to try on a Mac system, I think it should just work. In the meanwhile, I'm just glad I discovered this Blessed library, looks really fun to tinker with.
I liked the Half-Life plants. The game feels very completed and well planned, for me all that was missing was some balance with the time rewards and the prices, but in my experience balance is one of the hardest aspects to get right in a game jam, as one usually expends most of the time working on the game systems.
Mood is very good, everything is really consistent in style (music, characters, level design).
I really like the 3D models, and the controls feel pretty tight.
@sprngr You can also say that you are delaying your own victory in this case.
@bucketh3ad Thanks for the suggestion! I've just started to expand upon this jam game to hopefully release a full version and having references will be very useful. I'll check it out right away.
My first 5/5 this LD. The simulation felt so good, reminded me of my obsession with the Creeper World games.
Solid entry. I really appreciate that you don't need to go back too far away each time you reset, that would have been very frustrating.
I feel it is somewhat inbalanced as the fires appear to quickly and are super hard to put off, but this may be on purpose. The tank controls feels OK to me, I even like them.
Other than that, I really appreciate the simulatio" part of the engineering behind this game, those things take time to program and for a Compo game it is pretty impressive. In my game I missed the Compo deadline because I spend almost two days working on the simulation alone.
LOL at the radio dialogue, and when I first shot I actually thought someone was knocking at my door. Those made me laugh so I'll this pretty high in humor. The graphics are very nice as well.
I have to say it, the HTML5 badge on the game icon made me pick this one to play.
I don't know if the music is actually or intentionally dynamic but it surely gives the impression of it.
I can't explain why but I found this quick little game really addictive. I know the music was a big part of it but I don't think it was just that.
Pretty unique interpretation of the theme in my opinion.
What can I say, no matter how I look at this I can't rate it low in humor or innovation.
Oh so even past winners can experience these kind of clutches. It's so frustrating when it happens but great learning experiences because what leads to them is pushing ourselves to the limit in the first place. Amazing that you scrambled something and submitted it still.
Nice game, the only mechanic I think I didn't understand is the carrot one, I tried to give it to the penguins and to the snowmen, tried rubbing them with it, etc., and nothing happened.
Other than that, I really like how you made the entire map with like 3 different assets, pretty ingenious.
Conceptually this is the best one I played so far this LD, brilliant idea. Needs a lot of polish but the concept is really solid, 4/5 from me.
I think you got the 20 required ratings with mine! Congratulations.
Felt pretty polished and considerably more balanced than the usual jam game. A bit floaty in the controls but nothing too bad.
I actually really enjoy these sort of super experimental simulators, thanks for making it.
So simple yet so effective, now I really want to try this with a friend.
A bit unbalanced but very well though out design. I think having some more feedback about when and how strong the attack surges will be would make it much clearer what to prioritize and build at every moment.
The graphics, sound effects and music are all very appropiate and work really well, the UI is also good and clear and regarding UX I can only disagree with the choice of using ESC to go back to the main menu in a browser game, because it also takes you out of fullscreen.
Now this isn't something I usually take into account in jam games, but this is the exception: performance was teeerrible, somehow this game was hammering my CPU (a Ryzen 5 2600) and constantly stuttering. Not gamebreaking by any means but really annoying.
4/5 from me, very solid entry.
Really fun. What I liked the most is how the assault rifle is held upside down.
Nice graphics, I really struggled with the levels here, but I don't that they're too hard or unfair, I just think that the difficulty curve is too step and level 3 is already extremely hard compared to level 2.
Overall great job, everything feels pretty polished and well executed.
The graphics were amazing, but I can't agree with the choice of low framerate (or maybe it was just my PC and not a choice by the dev), it only made the movement feel choppy and unresponsive.
The audio was pretty good as well.
I rate this 5/5 in mood.
As a game, it was too uninteractive for me, I only had to go get wood 3 times and it ended already.
I played this for longer than most other games from the jam. The loop was fast, easy to learn, easy to improve on and the progression really fair.
I have a soft spot for graveyard themed games anyways, and digging graves to a Free Bird like song was really fun.
Graphics and sound effects are also very appropiate and well done, all contribute to the mood.
Please turn this into a full mobile game. It's a winner formula, super fun, quick to play and easy to learn.
I rate this very high in "fun". Simple and really effective mechanics.
I agree with what you wrote. Visuals and audio are top notch, and the gameplay can definitely be expanded upon.
For the people wondering what this is about: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/5ipinn/you_and_a_super_intelligent_snail_both_get_1/
This was actually brilliant. Really unpolished but it doesn't even matter because the narrative and core mechanics are so engaging.
If you polish the game speed, make the graphics more consistent, the music less repetitive (but keep the style, it's good) and find a more friendly way to present your text, you have a hit here.
4.5/5 from me.
Very intriguing to say the least. I was ready to come and give a mediocre score until I read the comments. Glad I did reload it.
I actually like the N64 graphics and the bouncy camera, but there wasn't really any gameplay or did I not understand it?
I can't say this isn't unique and innovative. Great concept and I think it could be made into a pretty fun mobile game.
With my rating you got the 20 required! Congrats.
I liked the Age of Empires style of balance and it also reminded me of that old Warcraft III and SC2 defense map.
Nice graphics.
Weird game, strange concept. Very funny, both in gameplay and in humor.
Reaaally fun, I don't get what's the point in using the shield, but I really enjoyed the game.
For those having problems to pick up items, pick them up from the side, like from the handle for example.
I don't think the game was really broken or janky, it played really well in my opinion. Great job.
Crazy cats indeed.
Other than the evident coolness of the multi-window gameplay, the visual effects themselves are very flashy and good looking.
@olenikimid Thanks for the Ares recommendation, I'm really interested in old strategy games so I'll check it out right away.
Also thanks for playing the game to everyone.
I didn't understand why I won. But nice and well executed concept.
I love art games. This was too wholesome. And reminded me of why I bought a king size bed.
I also really liked the Bugsnax cameo.
4.5/5 Really good
We need a new "tech" or similar category to properly rate technically impressive games like this one.
Very different to the original but still a great homage.
I would have tried to compile it myself if source was included. I can't test it now since I'm on Windows :(
20 ratings just in time. Congrats!
I love how this little game makes one think about themselves. One of my main hobbies is classic menswear so the gentleman was accepted right away. One of my main dislikes about humanity is religion so the religious woman got rid of right away as well, and religion in its entirety with her.
My T90 farms were extra hard to manage. Loved it.
TLDR: the game. The game is about following some objective markers and when you're stuck go read some text then try interacting with everything.
Gameplay is very weak. Nice graphics and music. Theme is absent.
Is it unfinished maybe? I collect the crystals and then nothing happens.
Nailed the aesthetics. So simple yet so satisfying and polished.
So polished for a compo game. Very innovative as well.
Nice concept to build upon.
I didn't understand what to do.
Technically very impressive.
Love it
At first I was like, oh god, these devs just played Blue Prince and will make me do some annoying badly designed puzzles. But then my expectations where subverted.
Well played.
@bad-fetus Oh you can right-click to remove tracks. I completely forgot to put that in the in-game help! Thanks for playing!
@alex-mulkerrin that's one way to do it (changing while train is running). But cool that you found about it. The going back in level 1-1 and finding a rock instead of an open path was a missed opportunity to add a skip for explorer types in hindsight.
@sebbernery Yes for sure! Allowing for holding the mouse down and dragging, and also hotkeys for the tracks would have been easy additions and would have massively improved the experience. Future improvements for sure.
@baluj Amazing to see these extra self-imposed challenges. Thanks for playing the game! I'm still not sure how you did it, let me try it myself.
@grid96 It was part of the game design. I watched people play and before they realize they can abuse the track pickup mechanic, they play the puzzles in a very different way.
Pretty cool to see people make the discovery and adjust their gameplay. Of course some people make the connection right away like you did. And that was expected too.
Wow solid idea. Innovation 5/5 for sure.
I think you just passed 20 ratings with mine! Good job.
@kkritikov Wasn't it like 1 billion? Really fun, played multiple times to see all of the collector's events.
Insanely polished, almost to full mobile release levels. Gameplay is deep, intuitive, fun. Loved the Death Stranding inspiration and the Floating Islands artifact.
Great start. Even with the funky placement and the incomplete gameplay, just assembling the thing is enjoyable to do. I'll definitely play a full game made from this base.
Nice concept. The `skip loot` should really not actually skip it and instead skip the requirement to click each to get them.
Theme feels a bit tacked on. Other than that, everything is really well polished, great graphics and sound.
Cool aesthetics for sure!
Interesting concept, would be cool to see it actually more developed.
Very polished in visual art and SFX/music, and all well put together. Amazing in this regard.
Now the game design is a bit simple, fun but repetitive and a bit shallow.
Theme, I can see the collecting there, a bit tacked on may be, but works.
Very good entry in general.
Really like the hand drawn graphics.
Amazing that you where able to finish at all!
Aesthetically great. Audio, graphics and mood really sold it.
Very hard! Was the idea to avoid the coins? Because I tried that.
@cassowary just tested in with Firefox with user agent switched and it works just fine. I'm kinda philosophically opposed this dangerous extreme Chromium-only focus (remember IE6), but I gave it a try nonetheless.
Graphics/audio/mood are really well done. Animations are either too slow or my PC couldn't handle them (tried proper Chromium too, same results).
But nice relaxing experience.
Do this require color vision? Or maybe I'm just dumb.
If it doesn't I'll give it another go!
I'll rate the audio, graphics and mood in the meanwhile. All 5/5. Really polished.
And the controls. Really good idea and execution there.
@threeli Oh now I get why you mentioned another train game! Lol. Nice start here, and you already nailed the soundscape and mood. Any plan to continue developing it? Edit: read about that already in the description.
Pretty cool that this was made entirely in JS.
Concept is good and is fun already. Audio is actually good, nice tune and appropriate sound effects.
The hit-boxes are kind of annoying but since it is pretty short game, no big deal. In-game instructions would have been great.
Oh no ratings? This was really cool.
Nice take on a classic Ludum Dare formula. Always love this kind of game, I think I played for more than an hour in a single session.
Found it to be really fun, played twice until I got all of the items.
LD really needs a new rating category for technical achievements. Replace humor maybe.
Controls actually become second nature after some minutes. Amazing atmosphere, great visual and audio design.
5/5. My favorite game this LD so far. And it actually made the concept click with me.
Now I can try it in real life myself!
Cool graphics. The turning was a bit to sensitive at least with my keyboard.
The concept is really good. But needs polishing to be fun to play to a longer while. 1. Camera controls overlapping with dragging the instructions are extremely annoying. 2. Very slow replays, so a speed up (2x, 5x, 10x even) would be greatly appreciated (I guess it currently mimics the Unity experience of making a line of code change and waiting a minute for recompilation).
Other than that, the puzzles were well made, the base gameplay is fun and engaging, the graphics and audio are well put together and aesthetically it really works.
Rating this very highly especially in innovation.
My first 5/5 this LD! Amazing.
I appreciate the absurdity of the premise.
The song is pretty good, but the rest of the audio is like 1 single sound effect.
But there is something about your game. While the audio design (except music), graphics and gameplay elements are all kind of basic, they all complement each other to make a greater experience in all regards. This in my opinion is a mark of a good start at designing games.
Some cool ideas with the aesthetics. It was pretty consistent in that regard.
Cool art style! I don't get the card game plot though.
Cool graphics and music. Needed a bit more of feed on what's actually happening when being attacked for example. Also is it normal that the items look cut off when placing them in the inventory? That made it a little hard to manage, but I guess it was part of the design?
I think you just got 20 ratings with mine! Congrats!
Love the music. What did you use to make it?
@gettingrekt that's on me actually, should have been clear from just level design. Thanks for playing!
Nice concept. Just 2 minor things: - Tutorial is too annoying, game is easy to understand enough. - Not having codebook while decoding makes no sense, it just increases annoyance instead of being real difficulty in a game this long.
Still 9/10
Wow really feels like one of those experimental Atari 2600 era games design wise. High score in innovation from me.
Theme is kind of weak. But otherwise very polished.
Best one I played so far. Very well executed. Love the audio in particular, both SFX and music.
You have to get the snowball running. Pretty satisfying.
2026-04-21_21-21.png I thought this big open area at the right was going to be some sort of Serious Sam secret large battle. But it was just there for exploring.
Great music and atmosphere.
Loved the map mark being visible in the world itself.
Nice idea. Cool music.
I actually found it very intuitive to play.
For it was the fruits one that was really hard.
Great idea.
I guess with a bit more polish this would not require that much explanation. But the idea holds, it is very engaging to decode the signal.
I actually like this more than the original. Great idea.
Wow this is very technically impressive. Now I'll have to check out more about CHIP-8.
