The difficulty seems far too extreme. Otherwise, I like the game loop itself and its a really cool take on a TD/RTS style game. GJ!
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD50 → Mad Wizard's Attack

Cool game, kinda hard but then again I've never been great a strategy games
seems to be too hard.. also pressing any UI button freezes the game for some time.. music lags badly then. The art is really nice
The tooltips are very handy! (Haven't seen any until now in a jam game) I too lost way to quickly! :D
@xoreaxeax thanks! we wanted to prioritize having a good UI and tutorial.
@tieran @nick-saulnier @dusho Sorry about the difficulty :( We didn't have too much time left for balancing.
Aesthetically nice and seems mechanically well considered, with the adjacency bonus and such. As others have noted, it seems a tad brutal.
I like the art, the mechanics seem fun and the tooltips and explanations are great, but I think it needs a little balancing (there's a section in Normal mode where enemy attack goes to 70 for a long time and I can't manage to survive it no matter what). Very good entry nonetheless !

Very cute offering. The graphics have this nostalgic charm, reminding me of old flash games! I enjoyed the gameplay, the idea is rather simple, but it has to be fun since I've been obsessed with trying to survive the +70 surge for what, half an hour? Maybe 45min actually. As others said, the balance seems rather off, though.
Some feedback about the balance: Stone is the most limited resource, and things require so little wood that you barely need to build any sawmill (and since the game is so fast and dense, you can't waste anything, and sawmills are super expensive). Booster towers don't seem to be really worth it, as well, not even for space compression? I've managed to build like 4 in a game (lucky roll on stone mines), all completely surrounded by 21 regular towers (if I remember correctly), and still couldn't get past +53 in shieldgen, which is barely any better than you get by just spamming regular towers, and the game doesn't last long enough that space would be a concern (on normal difficulty anyway).
Note after further testing: they don't seem to be working properly, actually. I monitored my shieldgen as I built one surrounded by regular towers, and it only gave me +1! !
The portals seem really enticing, but the stone cost is so prohibitive, that you basically build it, then die for lack of shields. The fountains are cute, but it's hard to justify building them, because when you lose, you lose so fast that your reserves barely matter anyway. It also feels kind of awkward that you'd have to build a portal before you gain any points, and that you have no basic point generation?
The pacing of the game is extremely fast, which is good because it makes you want to play again right after you lose, but it also makes the game very reliant on your APMs, and the shortcuts are a bit awkward on AZERTY keyboards; and it also makes learning the game a bit harder, since you have to always play so fast and be on top of things, so you can't really take time to read the tooltips and think about things.
I'd love to play again on a rebalanced version!
You did a great job!
@fae-pdf
You're right, the Booster Towers aren't working properly. I'll look into fixing that bug since that's allowed on the jam rules.
I'm really sorry about the balancing issues, we only had like an hour to test for bugs and balance at the end, so we did our best with that little time. After playing for a while after submitting the game, I've come pretty much to the same conclusion as what you describe.
Anyways, thanks a lot for that detailed feedback, and for playing! We'll probably be releasing a post-jam version at some point.
@fedora Don't even worry about it! I had a great time, and I know how it is to not have time to balance anything! You did great! I just wanted to give some proper feedback, since I spent so long playing!
A bit unbalanced but very well though out design. I think having some more feedback about when and how strong the attack surges will be would make it much clearer what to prioritize and build at every moment.
The graphics, sound effects and music are all very appropiate and work really well, the UI is also good and clear and regarding UX I can only disagree with the choice of using ESC to go back to the main menu in a browser game, because it also takes you out of fullscreen.
Now this isn't something I usually take into account in jam games, but this is the exception: performance was teeerrible, somehow this game was hammering my CPU (a Ryzen 5 2600) and constantly stuttering. Not gamebreaking by any means but really annoying.
4/5 from me, very solid entry.
@jesus-gonzalez Thanks for the feedback!
I didn't even think about Esc taking you out of fullscreen mode on the browser, we'll take it into account for next time.
About the performance issues, I know it has something to do with Godot Engine's WebAssembly export having some trouble when running in Chromium based browsers (which I didn't notice since I run Firefox :/ ). We'll also investigate if there's a way to fix this so it doesn't happen again next time.
A great little strategy game but it needs a litte bit more balancing. Besides that: Great job!
The game could have been really fun, but yeah as the others said, its kinda unbalanced as of now. I really like playing it however, and trying to stay as long as I want. But the surges are way too brutal.
Main points however, first, overlay for placing the buildings should be on top of other structures and should also have decreased transparency in my opinion. Also, every transition either from menu -> game or game -> menu causes short freezes and audio stutters. I don't know if it was due to web version, but yeah.
Overall I still really enjoyed this game. Maybe I'm just a sucker for RTS games, but I really liked this a lot. Thank you for submitting!
Nice Gamestyle :)
I like the art and the isometric perspective of this game. They are really great!.
My best score was 123, withstanding a negative force of 66!
The game feels a bit unbalanced which is perfectly undestandable as this requires a lot of time. I think adding building with abilities (e.g. some building capable of withstanding a big negative force for a short period of time after being destroyed, upgrade buildings, etc.) will add more depth to the game.
Very good entry!
PLZ GIVE ME STARS :v: Good job btw… :smirk:
@hmightypirate Thanks! Builidngs that gave active abilities were planned (including one that halved the attack force for some time, and one that doubled your resources production for some time), but we had to leave them outside the scope of the game due to not having enough time to implement them in the end :(
Interesting concept! Seems a bit limited as you can only build a fixed number of each resource generator, so there doesn't seem to be a lot of room for strategy there. You had some interesting ideas going on with the "bonus from adjacent buildings", I just wish it was more fully realized; as is I feel like most of the time is spent waiting on passive resource generation (with no way to increase it).
Nevertheless, congrats on your game!
Really cool concept for a game. I got a score of 173. Great job with the game!
Presentation is very good, music etc is appropriate. Can see you spent a lot of time on the tutorial, which is great because the game is quite abstract.
The graphics are simple but cool, I like the tile slide animation.
Ambitious to make a strategy game like this for a jam, but you pulled it off! My first run I felt like the surge was unfair, but playing again and planning for/expecting it, it becomes quite a cool game!
A leaderboard or some kind of indication of how well you've done would be nice. As it is you just need to keep track of the population score yourself.
(my best score was 278 on normal difficulty :) )
Nice entry, fun game.
The graphics are nice and building stuff feels good. I built towers all around the city. That covers roughly the first minute of gameplay. Then "Surge" pops up and the blue bar empties and it's game over. No feedback about what I did wrong, where the enemies came from and what I could've done better. How was the city even attacked, with every tile covered by towers? Oh well... It's definitely a fun base for a game, but I feel it needs quite a bit of polish to work.
