LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Another One Loops the Dust by limered 2020-10-06T13:22:59Z

This idea is damn good, but on top of that you managed to execute it perfectly. I had such a great time with it, the game is so well balanced and the experience is superb. I like the little touch that hitting the needle resets the track and the way dust and cracks affect the music. Sound design is damn on point. Congratulations and good luck!

Another by kuro 2020-10-06T12:57:30Z

A very interesting entry, it felt like a really elaborate boss battle, but I wish you used the same premise of a 3x3 level in more than this one way. At the beginning I didn't understand that you can actually hit the boss more than once because it felt like a turn based thing, once it clicked it was a nice challenge to try and nail it as many times a s possible. Congratulations on making it solo in just two days, it is very polished!

Another by kuro 2020-10-07T13:25:26Z

@kuro for implying that you can attack more than once I would do two things: 1) More oomph to the press animation 2) have the button idle animation breath a little bit

I REALLY liked the idea of level 0 as well, great idea. Good luck!

Looping for lööps by Steffo 2020-10-06T13:08:45Z

Great job, would loop again. This is such a hilarious concept and I love how you can alter the level while also trying to perform well on the platforming aspect of it. The changing loop color is a nice touch, congratulations!

Stuck on a Hyperloop by indigo 2020-10-06T10:18:30Z

For some reason it crashed after I died in the second room (Invalid get index 'health' (on base: 'null instance' is stuck in a LOOP). Also I never got to have a gun as the UI suggested I might. Very impressive for compo, good luck in your future endeavors!

Speedy Spider VS Fishy Fish by gaspard 2020-10-06T11:20:28Z

Any chance to submit a Windows version? The art looks inviting.

Oh My Hamster by LuckyFeathers 2020-10-08T19:17:09Z

This is some next-level postmodern piece right there. Good job on the polished experience and bold statement. Congratulations! The core mechanic was pretty fun, and those sneaky hamsters are hard to catch. I loved that rolling the wheel was tied to a resource, very neat. Congratulations on the great entry!

Not Enough by Toccio94 2020-10-08T17:52:55Z

Thank you for opening up and using this game as a medium to share your experiences.

I thought it was wonderfully executed, the abstract pixel art feels like home, and I found the player controller very well-made. I thought the mechanism of the yellow traps becoming consumable was fresh and made for a cathartic change of perspective at the end of each level (especially the final ones). The game had a nice arch and pace, and I really dig the Portal-esque shapeshifting levels effect. Congratulations for this wonderful piece, and good luck. :)

Until All Ends by WilloXs 2020-10-06T17:36:20Z

A very moving statement piece, this is how you use interactive media to convey a message. Congratulations.

The Curse of Cattenburg by Honest Dan 2020-10-10T11:38:43Z

Hi Dan! I really enjoyed the game, although I didn't manage to win yet after playing for about an hour or so!

The production values are absolutely amazing for a LD game, so well done on that regard. The art is gorgeous and the gameplay is smooth. I'm really looking forward to where you're going to take this one.

Gameplay: I feel like there is some potential there, although I'm not sure I like the memorization + RNG combo all that much. I would focus on finding a way to make decisions matter more. Generally there are many options + variables, some of which I care for less than others. I would say find maybe look for some inspiration in other modern board games and see how they solve these issues.

UI/UX: - I wish the cursor and the card were aligned, it is difficult to use cards on the ones I want. - The battles would go a little quicker, but on the other hand I keep missing on important information like what my enemies were doing. - It took me way too much to understand that the ability that covers a card also returns an AP. - I keep forgetting what the max HP of my characters are, maybe this should be added. - I think the hierarchy of character stats isn't represented correctly right now. The most important information is the attack value and the HP. I'm not entirely sure how dodge + wisdom(?) actually work, and so I wasn't really paying attention to those. - Sometimes I managed to hit more than one character with an attack card, not sure if it was a bug or the reason was not communicated well enough.

Graphics: - The motion blur is off the charts on this one, I think it could have been much lighter.

Bugs: - I could keep rolling the die even after entering a battle. - At some point one of my character cards started hovering and effectively covering the other cards. I think the character died while I was hovering on it and the animation didn't stop. It got stuck in that state for the rest of the game unfortunately.

I wrote all of this because I see some potential here, Good luck!

World Without End by niterich 2020-10-08T16:44:15Z

Hey, congratulations on the game! I thought it was cool that you decided to go for the thing that was interesting for you. It looks like you had a scope issue, which is fine. Hopefully this was a good experience for you. Thank you for sharing your entry regardless of you not finishing it! I had a good laugh with the boss battle.

Hang on, Bill! by zanzavar 2020-10-08T18:05:59Z

Loved it! Also I loved the Bill Murray reference. I thought the game was well made and enjoyed the puzzle thoroughly! Congratulations on this very polished, funny little game. Good luck!

Blossoms & Steel by Hare Software 2020-10-06T10:10:12Z

I don't really have too much experience with sword fighting games, although I did enjoy nidhogg quite a bit back in the day. I wanted the game to be a bit more responsive, and felt very restricted. I couldn't win the first fight after 3 attempts so I would say the game could be made a lot easier to protect us noobs. My rule of thumb is to cut the difficuly level roughly in half based on my own experience as a dev. I did find the game interesting and complete, so kudos!

Eat your cereals by Harksa 2020-10-06T19:23:39Z

I kind of wish you used different chewing sounds for the different cereal types. 10/10 would eat cereal again.

The Innermost Inside by Majadroid 2020-10-06T11:18:40Z

Nice job, I really dig the core mechanic, although I feel like the theme is kind of forced here, you simply have to beat every level in a limited time, which is more of an excuse. I think this mechanic could be improved further to create some interesting puzzles. Good luck!

A Day in the Woods by ditam 2020-10-06T17:09:43Z

I think the "youre not listening" mechanic is just a little too frustrating, I was really interested in what was going to happen but after the wolf part I lost way too much progress after moving through two sections that were too close to each other. Besides that, this is a very original game, and an idea that deserves more attention. I loved how rich an experience you've managed to create with this simple device. Good luck!

Loopita's Dream by vetu11 2020-10-06T11:58:01Z

A small, poetic piece that will stay with me for a while. Good luck!

Crypt of Capitalism by Lychee 2020-10-08T17:25:18Z

Nice idea and a pretty good execution! Good job on completing the game, I had a giggle from the idea of using microtransactions on a simple mario clone - kudos on that! Good luck on the rest of your gamedev journey!

How to rope a cow by Duck Reaction 2020-10-06T12:06:01Z

The best art piece I've encountered in this entire jam. Good luck on your inspiring, poetic journey.

btw you can still move around when the game is paused!

Paper Planes by SamDemaine 2020-10-06T20:36:07Z

A perfectly designed game with a simple premise and excellent execution. It's like snake with hidden information, I absolutely adore it! Congratulations and good luck!

Hell Loop by HakunaSoft 2020-10-06T13:05:04Z

I think the game could be better balanced, as I got quite frustrated with not being able to survive for longer than 10 seconds. Also, F is a terrible button for exiting the game, especially in a FPS horror game where I expected it to be a flashlight. Good luck!

LDJRodeo by Oinktato 2020-10-06T11:33:28Z

A nice excercise! I would try playing around more with the different physics knobs that you have to make the player feel more engaged. I really wanted to use the fences to bounce around, this could make for some cool evasive maneuvers but unfortunately the fences just slow me down in a game where all I want to do is go crazy! I like how you show me the score and also the time spent playing, but I think focusing on one of them could lead to a more concise experience. Good luck on your journey!

emiT by Rikitaner 2020-10-06T13:45:27Z

Congratulations on the game! It is extremely well done and polished to perfection, and although the idea isn't new, I had a great experience. I wish I could freeze time and get back before the 5 second mark. Good luck!

Ouroboros by JoeDev 2020-10-06T12:31:05Z

Congratulations on this unbelievably polished game as a solo dev, incredibly rewarding and fun. I would tweak the aiming but besides that it's a perfect jam gem to play with a controller!

Overrun by GameDevMatt 2020-10-06T10:33:24Z

This is SUPER IMPRESSIVE! I loved the Space Invaders in a tunnel idea, and thought the game was well-balanced. the diegetic control panel is a very nice touch, and although I wasn't entirely sure what the Overrun meter meant by the end of my playthrough, this was an awesome experience playing with a controller. Great job and good luck!

Loopfield by MikoziQ 2020-10-08T16:31:49Z

Very cool game, I thought how your shield was both a blessing and a curse was very interesting. Didn't manage to get the good ending though! I liked that some enemies move really damn slow, very tense! Good luck and congratz on the game!

Shifting Edge by DaFluffyPotato 2020-10-06T20:24:21Z

Beautiful game, and I like the experimental input system of using only the mouse - you get more points from me solely for that! The game has a few unintuitive systems, like the fact that you cannot jump over low objects like the bushes even though it appears as though you can. Also, the first couple levels can be very frustrating, and I found that while you created an entire move set, I almost never use the spinning attack because everytime I did I ended up falling down. I think the level design didn't really help showcase your core mechanic, as it mostly made me fear using the tools you gave me. The art is to die for. Good luck!

Path to Nowhere by goldenXD 2020-10-14T01:02:09Z

This path may lead to nowhere, but your path sure does lead to someplace. Congratulations for finishing and releasing your first project. You've managed to create a full experience, and despite a few very popular beginner bugs, your game loop works and you actually implemented quite a few mechanics here. Keep up the good work and good luck on your gamedev journey!

Merry-Go-Madness and The Claw Of Survival by LetterAfterZ 2020-10-06T11:26:50Z

A well-polished, fun little game, congratulations! I appreciate the humor and attention to details, although I wish it was balanced a little bit better, maybe something as simple as making the claw a bit more readable could help. Very well done, keep it up!

Looped Fellas by BukkakeTears 2020-10-06T12:45:05Z

A beautiful, morbid experience. Amazing job on the art and overall aesthetic, I enjoyed it a lot. Good luck on your future endeavors!

Space Drummer by Guilloteam 2020-10-14T00:38:46Z

I'm really impressed with this one, as a concept it has lots of potential.

I think right now the most important issue to tackle is finding how the beats that you craft actually matter in the moment to moment gameplay. As of right now it's sort of decorative, as your fire rate is pretty high. If the BPM was lower, as in music generally, the intent of each note/beat would be much more pronounced, and I imagine it will affect gameplay in the same way. Tactically at least.

I would try lowering the BPM and increasing the damage of each individual projectile and then see what happens. Also, maybe try looking into different kinds of projectiles/abilities that somehow interact differently with each other, so that you can craft your own combos and get in a rhythm with them, as most combo-based games want you to do anyway.

All in all a solid entry, I'm encouraging you to keep working on it!

Get Over Yourself by SpawnCampGames 2020-10-13T22:09:43Z

A really cool puzzle, super interesting. Having it be on first-person is an interesting quirk. I'm not sure the jumping mechanic is really required for this one, it's a bit redundant in my opinion. It would be nice seeing levels that are solely focused on the tracing part of the game. All in all a wonderful entry.

Looponaut by exopunk 2020-10-06T12:18:25Z

A very well-made entry, the art and music really drew me in. I would have preferred if the level was shorter, and instead you gave me more tools to deal with the stronger enemy types after every run. The player controller was very clunky, and I didn't like the control scheme at all. But I did enjoy the premise and the amazing atmosphere that you've managed to create. Congratulations and good luck!

Collateral Damage by Michael Parrish 2020-10-06T21:40:07Z

Idea is brilliant, but I think the game could be better balanced, right now it's a bit too punishing imo.

iLoop - the 2D endless runner game of a robot stuck in a loop :) by melvinng 2020-10-08T16:53:29Z

Congratulations on your very first game jam and for releasing a complete game! I thought your pixelart was charming and wish you luck on your gamedev journey. Happy to hear that you found the experience positive.

@melvinng oh don't worry about that. I thought it was good, keep it up!
