The game is fun and chaotic, it would be more fun if you allowed us to build and lead the army.
Also it crashed white screen after the meteor fell from the sky

nice music and animations, was a bit too much space bar spamming for me but maybe add a selection of next soldier instead of it being random and it would be nice
"War WAR NEVER CHANGE" it's really fun but having a way to quit after meteor would be nice
The game was generally fun, I liked the music and most of the audio, but the reverbiness of the voice acting made it hard to really focus on. Sad the meteor came so quickly! I almost won!
Pretty cool. Very unique take on capture the flag.
I liked the feeling of leading my army and pushing through the enemies with brute force, but then I realized I wasn't actually leading my army but slowly getting them all killed, one by one.
I think the game could benefit from some simple formations. Maybe add a leader character that can command all the units on screen and group them together since the most effective strategy is to have a large group of soldiers attacking at the same time.
It felt like it was impossible to win since there wasn't really a way to attack enemies without getting hit, so losing troops was inevitable. But I guess that was the point, being stuck in a loop of killing and dying, going back and forth with the enemy.
Good job! very well done
A very moving statement piece, this is how you use interactive media to convey a message. Congratulations.
Haha I very much enjoyed this, the narration adds a lot to it and I really liked the constant warring army style (reminds me of old warcraft/starcraft custom games). The AI all worked very well and were quite challenging foes!
Very tight game loop, self contained, easy on the eyes and to play. Very enjoyable! Nice job
Nice, I think I just had too much fun with all the violence. The pixel style is also lovely.
A great idea, with many elements implemented well. The mood would certainly be enhanced with Werner Herzog doing VO! I'm not sure how much impact my action were really having on the balance of power in the game, but the constant changing of the technology offered enough intrigue for me to keep playing through to the end. I liked the music and the art, but the voiceover recordings could be much clearer (a quick fix would be to drop the volume of the music considerably, but making clearer recordings in the first place would help). Thanks for making the game, I enjoyed it, and it has a positive message (I think).
Great game in every sense! It was fun and interesting to play. If you immediately run forward and run around the last flag, you can win without killing :D
Very good use of the theme as a strong metaphor! That said, I would say that the audio is hard to understand wile being the most important part, at least for me, and you can easily escape from attackers. The pixel art is lovely, overall good job!
I absolutely love the game. It's a brilliant take on the theme of war. When you become every soldier died on a battlefield and you witness the chaos from the stone age till the atomic bomb - it depicts the rottenness of this broken cycle better than anything. In my taste, the game should be just a bit shorter, like, maybe 20 seconds. At some point, it becomes tedious when you figured out what's happening and already know how it ends, but still have to shoot people. Also, it needs some polishing in a sound department, if you know what I mean. Voiceover could be somewhat better. But overall it's a great game with deep meaning. Nicely done.
Amazing game with cool graphics!)
It is an interesting concept for this jam, a loop of death. As our army advances the enemies start to spawn more and more with even stronger weapons, but so our army, and it is invitable to die and die and die, to the point that you see the gameplay as playing as an army instead of as a single character, that feeling it's well achieved via the mood of this game. The fact that the sprites of death characters stay in the ground scattering their blood leaves a mark on every death, showing the impact and consequences. The narration fits pretty well, I think the audio could've been edited a little bit more, but overall it's nice. I loved playing through this game.
Thanks for all the comments! Never got 20 votes that early.
I agree with the point of the bad audio - didn't have the time to re-record the lines.
I'm a bit surprised how many of you think the white screen is the end though (and therefore the nuke was a meteor). Maybe I should have made the dramatic pause a bit smaller.
Very nice, always good to see an entry that reminds me of early days Ludum Dare - brave game design, hand drawn pixel, not made in Unity. Captivating graphics from the starting screen.
I like in particular that combat had sufficient depth and mechanics to it (not very much, but still more than required). And gj on managing to add five unit types in two colors alone.
Soldiers look great, my favorite are pikemen but also Napoleonic musketmen, you don't see those often in games.
But long white screen didn't really serve to set the mood, like other peeps I thought it was over and turned it off the first time.
I failed to publish my game in time for LD, if you want give it a spin when you can https://krafter.itch.io/the-word
"the creation of a humanoid ... the power to overwhelm and destroy ... a product of a tortured brain ... your feeling of helplessness is your best friend, savage!" - Yuri
Wow what a great idea! This game is just something special, simple yet very meaningful.
Solid entry. Nice job doing a voiceover, I wonder don't know why so few people do it (me included) ? It's so easy and adds a lot of character.
